Reviews for Hunter Valley Resort
Review 1:The cottage is a bit old in age, but I guess that is the "style" of it. Also when I called before our arrival to the front desk asking if there was a hairdryer in the room, the receptionist said no at first, then had to put me on hold and check with house keeping before confirming yes. I would expect for this price the receptionist would have a better knowledge of the room facilities. There was a coffee machine in our cottage with capsules. You need to pay per capsules and there was a sign that said the price is on the bar fridge list. However we could not find the bar fridge list.
Review 2:We booked a little cottage house with a spa (fits 2 adults perfectly). Our house was located across from an open field with grass, horses & lake as the back drop. The view was amazing, it was fresh to be out in the country! The house was clean and by staying at the Hunter Valley Resort, you get free entry to the wine tasting tour and theatre next door at the cellar! Although we did not try due to shortage of time, they also offer massage offers (costs $$) within the resort. On the morning of check out we asked for a later check out and was given an extra 30 mins with no additional costs! That was great as we needed the time to pack our stuff. There are many signs on the road directing you to the resort so finding it will not be an issue. There are also a restaurant and a cellar door next door for convenient access to anyone who cannot be bothered to drive out. If we come back to Hunter region with friends I totally would not mind staying here again!
Review 3:The leaking of the bathroom taps was annoying. And the restriction of food on the menue for room service was disappointing. Also the food was delicious but the servings left you wanting. Breakfast was also disappointing for the price.
Review 4:The cosy atmosphere of the cabins. The aircon turned on before we arrived. The cleanliness of the room and the helpful staff. Also the location was great. Lovely surroundings.
Review 5:Was really expensive accomnotation for what it was, but dated, food and drinks were on the expensive side
Review 6:Nice to have brewery and food place near by and location
Review 7:my husband battles advanced Parkinson's Disease which has a symptom of his body not being able to temperature regulate: once he gets hot he can't cool down without outside help -- we were depending on the air-conditioning in the cottage to keep him from getting very ill. Well, the air conditioner wouldn't work and there was no one who could correct it for 3 1/2 hours in the hottest part of the day. So my husband was ill for the very 'adventure' we had attempted -- not very happy.
Review 8:beautiful views, congenial staff, well designed for our needs
Review 9:Pull out lounge bedding was not clean!! No broom to sweep floor. More selection for take away menu, e.g. Kids meals and dessert options. More 2 bed cottages
Review 10:Ensuite in both rooms, restaurant, tennis court and grounds.
Review 11:The septic smell that seemed to permeate both sides of the road.
Review 12:The proximity of binnorie dairy, the mill restaurant, the bar over near dairy with the fireplace and being able to have our massage/facial on site. the room was clean and all 3 beds had great mattresses
Review 13:Didn't like 2 single beds pushed together with a queen sheet!!! The beds were different heights n my partner n I couldn't fit on one single so it made a romantic weekend away a bit difficult
Review 14:I love the view & the peacefulness. Will definitely b back
Review 15:The staff were a tad cold and the bed was very uncomfortable.
Review 16:Room was clean and tidy. Was close to everything. Horse riding was great, as was the instructor who took us.
Review 17:The room was old and dated and the bathroom was old. I don't think the room was worth 170 with no breakfast. The shower pressure was very good
Review 18:It was a good location and lots of on site activities to do. Staff were friendly and free parking. Nice beer, good and wine on sale. Lovely grounds and nice for a walk
Review 19:Restaurant facilities were not of the standard that I expected. Only limited products available and not very good quality.
Review 20:Wine tasting tour was interesting and informative.
Review 21:The shower screen was too narrow. Water could easily escape and wet the bathroom floor while having showers. A bigger shower screen should solve the problem.
Review 22:Quiet serene surroundings. Freshness of country life. The room was spacious enough for 2. Good selections of tea coffee in room meant we could relax enjoy a cuppa after a tiring outing. The wine activities at Hunter Theatre were interesting and informative. Thank You Nathan for the lectures!! You were entertaining and brilliant.
Review 23:At 4am our phone rang. My partner and I thought there must have been an emergency! We answered the phone and it was a wake up service! We did not order one! Not happy that we paid a lot for the room and our sleep was disrupted like that!
Review 24:we were not given a warm welcome, were told they couldn't find our booking, then that our credit card wouldn't scan (both of these appeared to be related to the lady not knowing the procedures). We were given minimal information about the facilities, i.e your room is here (pointed out on a map) We were disappointed in the room based on the price we paid, it was a fine size, but it needs a little bit of attention to make it special. Bathroom could be improved too.
Review 25:Enjoyed the food in the restaurant, the service was very pleasant too. enjoyed the wine talk in the morning, very interesting and informative, the man who gave it was great. information on the area provided in the room through magazines was very helpful
Review 26:Outdated bathrooms in need of much TLC. Broken, tired furniture, and appliances (fridge)
Review 27:Location, staff, friendly and helpful, comfortable beds. Great restaurant and brewery attached.
Review 28:The staff were very friendly (I had ordered flowers for my gf and the staff delivered them to my room)... We stayed in one of the spa cottages and it was spacious, clean and it had a modern bathroom.
Review 29:The restaurant was awfull food uneatable and cold
Review 30:The wine therter and bar were great
Review 31:The fact that the staff wanted to charge us 1.5 % to use eftpos.
Review 32:There was a variety of things to do without leaving the premises
Review 33:clean, good view, friendly staffs
Review 34:relaxed venue, great rooms with highs ceilings....everything on site that u need.
Review 35:The walls are paper thin so not a good idea if you plan on partying
Review 36:Good location; good sweets bar; they also have horseriding
Review 37:No mini bar
Review 38:King size bed
Review 39:The Staff were lovely. The accom was very comfy. Thanks for having us!
Review 40:Terrible food in Restaurant, overpriced wine. Motel grounds unkempt and unattractive.
Review 41:Nice quiet room with a good bed
Review 42:The shower irregular temperature, the smell on the property was pretty bad.
Review 43:It was nice.
Review 44:It was all so easy, the DVD incident was very funny Alan (Nathan) was great we did the McGiver.
Review 45:The cabins and the view from them
Review 46:There was an overwhelming smell of eucalyptus oil that was masking a bad odour that I think was coming from the drains.
Review 47:Great location
Review 48:Views, bed, size of room
Review 49:Some noisy neighbours, walls were a bit thin!
Review 50:The view and the food were excellent. The room was very clean and supplied all necessities.
Review 51:King size bed was two king singles pushed together. Had a big rise in middle of bed
Review 52:Beautiful grounds, quiet and peaceful!
Review 53:Stars at night.
Review 54:Location was private and cosy Clean and well presented Comfy bed
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Great bed and shower.
Review 57:The food was not great.
Review 58:I loved the grounds. The brewery and the vineyard tour was very informative and interesting.
Review 59:That we had to leave
Review 60:The pool the cozy room the staff were so accommodating and pleasant
Review 61:Bed was too soft
Review 62:great with the brewery and winery on site
Review 63:There are aspects of the Hunter Valley Resort that could be updated.
Review 64:Value for money
Review 65:Overall our stay was lovely. Very relaxing atmosphere and lovely people.
Review 66:We were happy with everything
Review 67:We liked having resort style facilities with everything on site.
Review 68:there was no tea towels provided and very little washing up liquid. Also no instructions about air conditioner, was it reverse cycle?
Review 69:homiliness of cottage
Review 70:No remote control for the reverse cycle.
Review 71:Liked that it was in a quiet part of the Hunter Valley. Very relaxing. Pizza lunch was good. Loved the "vine experience" talk in the morning. Great value.
Review 72:The only issue we had was that the walls between the rooms were very thin, and we were able to hear our neighbouring guests quite clearly. (This was in the Vineyard rooms).
Review 73:The location was fantastic, set out amongst the vineyards. Very scenic. The staff were very friendly and the food was good.
Review 74:-Poor signage leading into the Hunter Valley resort. Hard to find. Apparently it goes by various names such as Hunter Resort and others. Confusing! - Rate per night too high - Not anything like a resort, as place is very basic, nothing fancy like you would expect of a resort -Expensive restaurant and have to book for evening meal
Review 75:-The view from the back veranda -The clean (but very basic) rooms and modern bathroom - Friendly staff
Review 76:Sleeping in a room where cockroaches crawl over you during the night. The room was alive with cockroaches at or about 1 am, still waiting for management to call re this
Review 77:not much after the encounter with cockroaches
Review 78:We booked for dinner but was missed ( that's ok no Big deal for us) but not all customers are d same..consider making beer paddle drinks a bit bigger say a regular size glass as an option (loved it but so small)...not so much food choices ... Consider improving menus n do not serve burnt pizzas he he... Otherwise all good! Like d place n would still Comeback!
Review 79:Staff at information during check in n out and d wine tasting staff were excellent would rate 'em 5 stars... Facilities are good enough and clean n best of all quiet and accessibility is great!
Review 80:WE stayed here due to bruce springsteen , convenient having bus at our door for pickup and return great service. Was a relaxing comfortable affordable stay
Review 81:The brown-ness of the room and the food at dinner in the restaurant
Review 82:The location, swimming pool, very comfy bed with crisp sheets, good supply of tea/coffee and biscuits
Review 83:The cookies in the rooms are bad. Pictures of the room in the site were misleading. Breakfast is not included and is $20 per person (expensive)
Review 84:Right in the center of the best products to buy (eg. Wine, cheese). Includes two basic classes regarding wine which are helpful for beginners.
Review 85:It was 38 deg C outside but our room was perfect when we arrived as the Air Con had already been turned on. The wine tasting and beautiful, reasonably priced meal at the restaurant made for an enjoyable stay.
Review 86:Room was a bit dark and tired. Meals in the restaurant and breakfast overpriced
Review 87:Staff were friendly and informative. Made us feel welcome and comfortable around the facilities,
Review 88:The place doesn't live up to its website. Furniture in bed room wastired and scuffed. Water in the pool wasn't heated and restaurant ismore of a Pizza place than Italian fine dinning. Only place out of 17stops in Oz that disappointed us, and it was one of the most expensiveplaces we stayed.
Review 89:Comfortable bed in clean room. Well locate amongst the the vineyards.
Review 90:I spend a lot of time in The Hunter Valley and accept that the cost ofaccommodation there has gone through the roof in recent years. I canstay in the middle of Melbourne for about half what it cost to stay inthe Hunter. That said, The Hunter Valley Resort is still over priced incomparison to other places and considering the facilities it provides. It is very tired. Paint was peeling off walls in our room and thebathroom was in serious need of an upgrade. The staff were ambivalent. Ihad called in advance to arrange an early check in and was advised thiswould be okay. On arrival I was left waiting in reception for 25 minuteswhile housekeeping were consulted as to whether the room was ready. Idid not use the pool or bb Cue are so cannot comment.
Review 91:There is nothing we don't like.
Review 92:This resort has everything to offer from out door activities to wine tasting, dining, horse riding and much more. We have stayed there several times due to its facilities and most of all its great location.
Review 93:-very overpriced for a "cabin" -is named a "resort" but nothing resembles a resort -cobwebs inside the unit -middle of nowhere -the food was very expensive and terrible at the resteraunt
Review 94:nothing
Review 95:For a resort like Hunter Valley Resort I think they should, actuallythey must, definetly improve their breakfast selection. Eggs wereovercooked, and also as mushrooms and tomatoes havent had any flavour atall. Even with only few items on the buffet they should prepare them tothe best of standards aka put some love in it. I'm actually chefmyself and was dispointed to see that there are chefs out there thatwould serve food like that.
Review 96:Breakfast was poor, the muffins and other pastries were at least a day old, the coffee was terrible and the mugs smelt of egg. The scrambled eggs were cold. Also, when we checked in, reception told us that breakfast was $14, after finishing breakfast we found out that cold breakfast was $14, hot $20. Staff were nice and did not charge us the higher amount.
Review 97:Clean and confortable room, not modern but well maintained.
Review 98:This resort is past it's prime and is in need of refurbishment. Thespa in the pool was not working; the room furniture was old and chipped, the bathrooms were shabby and the breakfast was pretty poor value fornot being included in the room cost.
Review 99:Great staff, location was good, has a bar and a restaurant.
Review 100:Roads are the worst I have seen Broke rd is almost 4 wheel drive only Will wait until fixed before coming back
Review 101:On site bar Wine tasting Restaurant Nice and quiet 2 bedroom cabin
Review 102:Describing the place as a resort doesn't seem to fit. The decor in the room now seems slightly dated. The grouting and bathroom could use a more intensive clean as the room felt a little grimey and the grout is now yellowing also. Believe it or not, the reviews I saw on Tripadvisor about it nearly turned us away just because the place seemed to be so defensive about bad feedback. For the most part, these comments would seem to be true. We made little use of the attractions on offer, so can't judge any further.
Review 103:We have stayed before. Came back to stay despite others having similar prices because we knew the spa and the beds were good in the cottages. It's nice to be able to see across the paddock to the surrounding hills - very pretty. The balconies have a great feel to them outside. The room is a good size and the facilities provided were adequate.
Review 104:The staff, particularly on Reception couldn't do enough to help us and were extremely friendly and welcoming. The two bedroom cottage was perfect for our group (two couples) and had everything we needed for our one night stay. As a guest you also get to attend a Vineyard Tour and Wine Theatre Masterclass for no extra charge.
Review 105:Good location, very relaxing, nice country side views with vineyards, and mountains.Needs a little updating, a little pricey for what you get, but the room was clean and tidy with a comfy bed.
Review 106:The rooms were dated & the bathroom was small and smelly, I expected alittle more for $250/night.
Review 107:The location was good & the staff were excellent.
Review 108:The only critisism I have was the shower the water would either become very cold or scalding hot if another room was using it.
Review 109:We only stayed one night but the bed was very comfortable the room was clean, the young girl on the desk was very helpful, polite and very welcoming. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
Review 110:We stayed at what the hotel calls a vineyard room; the view from our room was a piece of land with very tiny newly planted vines. The view was ok and it was very quiet to sit outside, but do not expect a luscious garden! The room was fine, but the outside of the hotel doesn't catch up to the name of "resort"; it looks a little rundown and neglected. The shower goes from cold to burning hot in a flash and doesn't respond well to adjusting the temperature.
Review 111:The room was quite big and a nice bed. Free bottles of water in case the tapwater smells funny/has strange clour.
Review 112:Good food, relaxing setting, easy pace, yet enough to offer to occupy the young kids in the family. Provided exactly what we needed to thoroughly enjoy our weekend
Review 113:No facial tissues - a minor oversight. Breakfast not available after 9:30am.
Review 114:Complimentary tea, coffee, UHF milk (not fresh) and biscuits; plus toiletries.
Review 115:i didn't like the early check out of 10 am.
Review 116:The place is centrally located for the purpose of our visit. The place is self-contained, i.e., restaurant, wine tasting and sales, relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, a theatre and tour that gave us an idea of wine making process. Thank you for a pleasant stay. Paul
Review 117:1.There was a smell of urine outside the cabin,2.THERE WAS A PUBIC HAIR IN THE BATHTUB AND THE BATH WATER CAME OUT GREEN AND WHEN YOU TURNED THE SPA ON IT SMELT DISGUSTING. 3. THERE WAS A PUBIC HAIR UNDER MY PILLOW!!! 4. OVERALL- DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE ON THAT HALF---
Review 118:The resort was nice, room was modern and great location
Review 119:Although our stay was very short, we did enjoy the accommodation and its surroundings at the resort. The grounds / vineyard is beautifully maintained. Would recommend to others wanting to have a break in the Hunter. Breathtaking views. Reasonably priced, clean, comforting, peaceful. Would rebook again. Not withstanding having enough time, resort did offer varied activties / tours and am hopeful trying these will happen on my next rebooking. Restuarant availbility / food enjoyable and pleasant. Experience with staff was courteous. Keep up the good standards. Centrally located near surrounding and neighbouring vineyards.
Review 120:Nothing too bad - but main course dinner was cold - mainly due to beingserved on cold plates - suggest you warm plates for service. No filtercoffee available at breakfast and poor selection of breads/croissantsfor the continental option.
Review 121:Good value for money - 2 bedroom cottage.
Review 122:Expensive breakfast with lack of choice. Dinner was v poor despiteprevious other good review. Modernisation of the bar area and outdoorseating is unkept and could be much nicer. Run down feel to the place.
Review 123:Comfy bed
Review 124:Good price and comfortable
Review 125:We enjoyed the privacy of the room with the view on the vines. It was clean and comfortable. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends.
