Reviews for Grand Hotel Zermatterhof

Review 1:The hotel environment had a beautiful ambience. It was comfortable and the staff very attentive. Our room had views which were outstanding & was warm & cosy. The extra little 'touches' made our stay that more special.

Review 2:N/A

Review 3:Everything. They provide a hotel electro bus to pick us up on train station. (When we arrived, it is big rain) the service is so nice and warm. Once we left, the hotel even provide horse drawn carriage to take us to the train station. The loyal service. Also, the breakfast is so good and rich. Will stay again when visit next time. Highly recommends.

Review 4:No coordination between reception and concierge (not received morning newsletter as offered, waited for the languages quite long) Slow and even not engaged concierge (neither pick up nor transfer to the train station were not handled even though confirmed by them, we missed our targeted return train and had to walk to the station) Not complete information given us for a tracking route on the village map

Review 5:Smiling and friendly staff Comfortable room Well located

Review 6:The lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. One morning at the breakfast room I had almost finished my breakfast and my tea that I ordered had not arrived.

Review 7:The only negative was that our room was facing the clock tower so from 7am the clock would start chiming every 15 min - so it was a lil hard to sleep in with a small baby.

Review 8:True Swiss hospitality - loved the horse carriage pick up from the station. Staff were extremely helpful and polite. Great location! Definitely stay here while in Zermatt!

Review 9:There was no air conditioning in the room and it was an unusually hot period.

Review 10:Very friendly and helpful staff and the breakfast buffet was one of the best ever.Very nice hotel, great style. The views were terrific.

Review 11:No complaints whatsoever!

Review 12:I was pleasantly surprised by how we were greeted by the front desk. They were extremely friendly and helpful, doing everything possible in making our trip memorable. This was the last leg of our Swiss tour and quite frankly, I wasn't too pleased with the hospitality of my previous experiences in other cities. This one truly blew my mind away. Even the location of the hotel was ideal being a few minutes away from the train station and all the lovely attractions nearby. Overall, this definitely gets a full score - mainly because of the quality of service and the way they made us feel. I'm definitely going back!

Review 13:Nothing

Review 14:Even this hotel is not "grand" as we think but they gave us more grand hospitality. The concierge man (sorry we forget the name) was so helpful...spent his time with us...gave us very detail information about Zermatt...spectacular view from our big balcony...superb breakfast...love this hotel so much

Review 15:We did not know that the hotel has special rates for the race and when we asked to even make a commercial gesture (the discount for the race was quite significant) we were denied. The fitness room is not for a 5 stars hotel!

Review 16:Location is really good.

Review 17:Beds not a comfy as could be made available. Go for NASI style memory foam mattresses to aid aching muscles is the only answer!

Review 18:Visited this hotel 7 years ago which at the time felt a bit stuffy and outdated. However Mr R Biner current hotel managing director appears to have listened carefully to his guests observations and made subtle changes and I would now rank this as a superb establishment with caring attentive staff. The ski room is the best I have encountered in 40 years and it's staff provided outstanding service. The hotel also has the added addition of a new cheese restaurant which is off a very high standard indeed. Eating arrangements are also flexible, a welcome addition in this style of hotel. Spa also benefits from quality heated swimming pool.If one is looking for a classic old worldly establishment with a modern twist then you shall not go far wrong booking here. Mr A McIntosh Scotland

Review 19:Expected a bit more for the money but overall a good property. Some staff could have been more cheerful. Dropped off with a city taxi which was a bit disappointing

Review 20:Nothing at all

Review 21:This hotel nothing to dont like its classic modern and every room has a great view. And they give a gift for staying when you chech out, what a lovely hotel.

Review 22:Choppy Wifi

Review 23:Friendly Staff. Excellent location. The Spa is nice. Got some great recommendations from the concierge for hikes and other activities to do in Zermatt. Overall I have enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

Review 29:Chime from the church

Review 30:The Matterhorn view room is spacious and superb overall. The transfer is professional.

Review 31:It was too hot and no air con

Review 32:Location, service, room, most of it! Its by far too good for Switzerland

Review 33:Renovated rooms are great, staff are very professional and helpful, free transfers to/from train station.

Review 34:None

Review 35:Location and the excellent service

Review 36:Excellent stay ! The staff were amazing ! The horse carriage ride from the station to the Hotel was a hit with the kids.

Review 37:The style

Review 38:mattress too hard

Review 39:The restaurant "say cheese" is not so good. Bad service, food average

Review 40:Location,service ,room!

Review 42:Everything is perfect except the wifi.

Review 43:Superb staff.

Review 44:Luxurious hotel

Review 45:only one thing which we found not so good, was the waiting to be served for coffee and tee

Review 46:everything

Review 47:Room decoration is a bit outdated.

Review 48:Fantastic service, attentive (but not in your face) staff, good spa facilities.

Review 49:your weather refused to co-operate.

Review 50:the location is incredible, staff very friendly, Zermatt is a magical place.

Review 51:Gym too small not well equiped. Changing rooms are mixed.

Review 52:The nee suite was amazing. The entire hotel staff are the kindest ever. Location superb. The pool and wet rooms excellent.

Review 53:Nothing! Anyone who finds fault with this hotel could never be pleased.

Review 54:Returning to the Grand Zermatterhof is like going home. From the phone call from the concierge to find out what time to collect us from the station to the warm welcome from reception and relaxed check in process with a complimentary drink from the bar whilst sat in the lounge area to the incredibly friendly and efficient staff in the bars and restaurant make this hotel the only place to stay in Zermatt. It is also unusual but nice to find that the fantastic General Manager is around to meet and speak to guests both daytime and evening. He truly cares for the comfort of his guests and he leads his entire team by example. I cant remember the last time that almost every member of staff welcomed us when using services in any department using our names. A truly remarkable hotel indeed. This summer there is some refurbishment work being carried out to further improve the facilities which can only make the guest experience even better though I am not sure how you can improve what is already incredible. I would add that I own a few hotels in the UK and would be proud if they give the same level of comfort, service and general experience that the Grand Zermatterhof gives to its guests. We look forward to returning again next year.

Review 55:The best hotel in Zermatt by far with fantastic location, walking distance to all restaurants, bars and shops, great facilities with beautiful pool and spa, amazing views of the Matterhorn and very friendly and helpful staff. From the moment we were collected at the station by horse and coach to the friendly boot room staff dropping our skis off 5 days later what a great hotel. Bright ornate breakfast room, sitting out on the restaurant terrace with best views of the Matterhorn in town! Will be coming back next year for sure

Review 56:There is nothing not to like.

Review 57:This is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. Surrounded by the Alps, and under the Matterhorn, it is a fairytale setting. The hotel is clasically beautiful. The staff is exceptional and the Spa was wonderful. It simply doesn't get any better.

Review 58:These are personal prefereneces/observations and are in no way a reflection of the hotel or staff of this fine establishment. 1/ Zermatt is eye-wateringly expensive. 2/ The hotel have favoured a particular type of memory foam mattress that was too hot and didn't suit me at all, even though the temperature in the room was easily controlled.. 3/ Being British, I'm not use to such attentive staff and found their level of assitance to be a little overwhelming.

Review 59:Zermatt is breathtakingly beautifull. The village is chocolate box pretty and the toytown elecrtic cars really enhance the clean air experience. The Grand Hotel clearly exemplifies everything that's right about a Swiss resort. Polite and courteous staff where nothing is too much trouble. Spotlessly clean with no sign of decay or deterioration like one may find in say, Courchevel 1850 for example. The ambiance, decor, and general mood of the aged wooden paneling has a tangible feel of history without being up it's own backside. Breakfasts are not an enormous buffet, but rather a tasteful and delicate balance of superb choice without being glutinously American (sorry to my American cousins, but have you seen what you eat at breakfast??). The location, like virtually all the hotels in Zermatt, is central to the village and a short taxi ride to the gondola stations or a few minutes walk to the Gornegrad railway (a fabulous experience). I would heartily recommend the spa and pool. none of this gimicky indoor/outdoor nonesense. A proper sized indoor pool and an excetional spa (wellness facility) that is synonymous with Switzerland

Review 60:Breakfasts are awful and don't correspond to the declared level of hotel.(both service and food range..) The interior needs to update. The real 4* hotel.

Review 61:Spa center. Reception. Room service.

Review 62:The service at meals was very very slow. The hot chocolate orders often arrived as warm chocolates. The wait staff's English is so good that they are familiar with colloquial terms (which are not necessarily appropriate when addressing guests). The pool area should enforce swimming protocol - with children as well as their parents/guardians. All minor complaints

Review 63:Centrally located on the main street with an amazing view of the Matterhorn. We (me, an avid infrequent skier, my husband, a second time skier, and our parents, happy to remain in the comfort of the hotel avoiding the slippery streets and cold) loved our time at the Zermatterhoff. The ice bar in front of the hotel, serving champagne, was frequented and appreciated by my mother and mother in law on a daily basis after brief shopping sprees for grandchildren down the street. The men enjoyed the bar/smoking (including cigars) room which had excellent ventilation. My husband was wooed into the style of skiing where one has a ski room attendant with your rentals ready after a good leisurely breakfast. There was an option to make charges from establishments around Zermatt (from ski rentals to lunch on the mountain) to your room. My husband and I also enjoyed a swim and sauna after a wonderful day on the slopes. Highly recommended - it was the perfect choice for our group (one with high standards)

Review 64:We had three rooms and they were all decorated differently; each and every one was beautiful, elegant but cozy. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was incredible. The hotel is in a very nice location.

Review 65:Absolutely nothing at all.

Review 66:EXTREMELY good. Very service-minded staff (and I unfortunately had to test them more than I wanted), very good rooms and probably one of the best beds I have slept in. I got a very good price, making the value for money being extremely good as well. Fantastic hotel.

Review 67:We enjoyed everything about this hotel. The staff was beyondaccommodating, took care of all our needs & more. Hotel was cleanand modern. If we are ever so fortunate to return to Zermatt, we willwithout a doubt be staying at the Grand Zermatterhof!

Review 68:Room is outdated and needs refurbishing, although bathroom had beenmodernized

Review 69:Fabulous service and amenities, such as restaurant and spa. Room rateincluded full breakfast, water and soft drinks with no extra charge, pick-up and delivery to the train station and free use of spa facilities

Review 70:Although some rooms were refurbished, our room only had 2 power plugs available (no extensions available at the reception) and an old blow dryer.

Review 71:Amazing Staff, great location, great services. Good pool.

Review 72:It's difficult to find something we did not like, maybe the room wastoo hot, especially at night.

Review 73:The Hotel represents a well preserved historical marvel of Zermatt. Wereally enjoyed out stay there, including the setup of the room the spafacilities and a delicious breakfast. We would like to specially mentionall reception staff and in particular Annie, who was extremely cheerfuland helpful.

Review 74:One difficult incident over a booking we had made in the main restaurantfor the Easter buffet - due to a miscommunication between the Conciergeand the restaurant - but after the initial difficulty, it was graciouslysorted out

Review 75:Quality of the food in the main restaurant Bar staff(particularly Fatima) Ski room and staff Our room (althoughsmall) was very well-appointed

Review 76:Noisy at night when sleeping to the street side Need to walk quite a bit to the ski train or take a taxi

Review 77:Hotel lobby View of the Matterhorn Friendly staff Good SPA area Great help in the ski room

Review 78:Long breakfasts some mornings when trying to rush off to ski. Wait forcoffee. Would like to be able to help self.

Review 79:Very nice welcoming staff. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Review 80:The hotel is right next to the church with bells that goes on from 630-730 in the morning so it's not possible to sleep in.

Review 81:Helpful and friendly staff. Great spa and pool facilities. Locker roomfor ski equipment is very useful.

Review 82:fairly taciturn maitre D in restaurant, a smile would not hurt! smoking in the bar - the smell also wafts out to the lobby there is a non smoking bar too at least

Review 83:location in the centre of everything spa area helpful front of house staff jacuzzi bath in bathroom was nice most luxurious boot room i've experienced with helpful staff member to take your skis, and nice warm boots in the morning!

Review 84:Fabulous stay. Wonderful service, clean and stylish facilities, state of the art spa with sauna, steam, pool, jacuzzi, and ice room. Staying here is like being a in a wonderful fantasy. I was treated like a king the entire stay and felt sad to leave. Everything was better than my highest expectations. Fresh fruit renewed daily, greeted by name every time I entered the lobby, and large selection buffet breakfast.

Review 85:our room was overheated. although it was very cold outside, the temperature in the room was too much to get a good sleep.

Review 86:the staff was wonderful. we were pleased with the shuttle between the train station & hotel. the breakfast was very good.

Review 87:Little storage space in more basic rooms
