Reviews for Criterion Hotel Perth
Review 1:$100 deposit On a credit card demanded in case I damage the property. i found the room had doors hanging off the cupboard, remote for aircon and TV falling to pieces although already heavily sticky taped. towel rail hanging loose. Shower head kept falling down, rust on wall in shower. Also demanded my license so as to take a photo copy. In Australia taking photo copies of passports and licenses IS ILLEGAL.
Review 2:No bad experience as such just the bathroom is getting old. The shower head wouldn't stop dripping after having a shower which seemed to be such a waste of water.
Review 3:Very close to the centre of town! For $80 a night it really is a bargain hotel! If you are out all day & night exploring Perth only require a basic room to sleep then this is the hotel for you! If you are going away for a romantic naughty weekend away with your love one to never leave the room then this is not the hotel for you!
Review 4:Rooms very stuffy air con not very efficient or effective slow to cool room after coming back from an outing. Restaurant was in our opinion terrible, no air conditioning food not good standard.
Review 5:Good position.
Review 6:Bathroom was filthy, tide marks around the bath looked like it hadnt been cleaned for months. Asked for it to be cleaned, it didnt happen so moved rooms. Very dated rooms, if all your doing is sleeping location is great. If you intend to spend any time relaxing in the room forget it..
Review 7:Location is great
Review 8:Its a budget option so one can't be too critical but of course room, furniture, bathroom were dated and in need of some modernisation, but service, cost and location make up for it!
Review 9:Good budget option for 1nts stay in town
Review 10:As soon as I entered in the hotel I did not like anything about the hotel, in the website the pictures where so good but in reality I feel that I am staying in a hotel of slums, Rooms where so dirty, bathroom was worst specially when we shower it was feeling so bad even just to stand in the bathtub coz it as so dirty, my kids did not even had shower coz of the filth, We where 4 including my 2 kids and there was no enough shampoo or shower gel, AC does not work as it use to, I called the reception and a guy and checked the ac and he said its working fine and Honestly that night it was colder outside of my room than inside my room, We came to perth from Albany after 6 hours bus drive and next morning we were living to India and the stay was just utter waste, we could not sleep all night as it was so warm and the beds was hard and warm to sleep, I will not let my dog stay in that hotel for free. I request everyone not to go for pictures on the site coz its nothing as they showed on the site. Please if you pay AU$ 20 to 30 extra you will get a lot better hotel than this, I felt as if I am staying in a roadside hotels in 3 world countries. Plz plz don't stay in this hotel its my humble request.
Review 11:Only the location is good as we where in the middle of the town with many option for shopping.
Review 12:The rooms feel a bit dated, but all in all it is fine if you want a decent place to sleep.
Review 13:I booked this hotel last minute for my mum and I so we could spend some time together and get dinner in the city. It was a great location for venturing into northbridge and the city.
Review 14:Run down hotel in great place, a little refurbish would be great. Dead coackroach in bathroom. But you get what you pay for, at least in Australia this price gets you this :)
Review 15:Great location and staff, welcome drink
Review 16:the room could be a bit better if maintenance of the hotel does a better job to check amenities eg air conditioning, loose bathroom fittings etc
Review 17:the location was great as its near the halal restaurants , IGA supermarket is downstairs and attractions like stirling gardens..
Review 18:The bath was dreadful very scratched which looked awful. The shower head had spurts going out both sides as well as from centre but spurting from one side flooded the floor. Towel rail fell off the wall when a towel was placed on it
Review 19:Comfy beds
Review 20:Could do with some modifications in the decor to make it seem a little more luxurious - it was very basic. Needs better internet, we could not get onto the internet.
Review 21:Lovely art deco building. Good location
Review 22:Very dusty and fans needed a good clean and hotel needed new paint job and carpets, refurbishing would bring standard up tremendously.....
Review 23:Breakfast and dinner was lovely, took advantage of free glass of wine with dinner and 20% off dinner voucher....
Review 24:Uncomfortable beds, old style, no parking at all, needs to be renovated and some updates
Review 25:Good location close to the CBD, very helpful, friendly and caring personal
Review 26:Slightly rundown, definitely in need of renovations. Towel rack in bathroom was almost falling off the wall. Room was a little cramped and very dusty; also had overwhelming strong odour to it. Hotel offered free wifi that rarely worked, had to resort to using hotel's computer in lobby.
Review 27:Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Hotel was short walking distance to CBD.
Review 28:No outside relaxing area, poor workmanship in renovations, no parking for guests, the dining, drinking area not air conditioned at all.
Review 29:the room was air conditioned
Review 30:needs a big overhaul, what would have been a very beautiful art deco hotel had lost all its spark- very old smelly room, no window, very noisy corridors- people (women)moving up and down the corridor banging on doors and entering rooms until very early hours of the morning.
Review 31:Clean bathroom
Review 32:Rooms pretty dire. Wireless internet sketchy. Hotel in desperate need of refurbishment.
Review 33:Free welcome drinks and 20% discount in the cafeteria. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 34:I had no problem with the old style fit out of the hotel but would love to see a lick of paint & new bedspreads.
Review 35:Great location, handy to everything. Lovely staff, very friendly. The restaurant was a big surprise, Excellent Chef
Review 36:Hotel was a bit shabby although it was clean. Shower was just a dribble as plunger didn't work properly.
Review 37:It was central for trains, shops etc. Reasonable price
Review 38:Air condition need to be manually on and off i.e. not using remote control. It is time to change the bed as the spring has worn out.
Review 39:Location is excellent. Room is clean and quiet. Not so spacious but it is sufficient for my family of 4. Receptions are friendly. I was able to store my luggage one day before checking-in and that helps me in travelling light to Fremantle.
Review 40:Rooms are in need of updating--walls are nicked, dented, paint is lacking or chipped away, decorations are missing, furniture is cheap and very tired. The restaurant is so-so, PLENTY of dining other options within a block in any direction.
Review 41:Location, value for the money
Review 42:Hotel is really old. So creepy like a haunted hotel. Saw a trash on the hallway that seated there for 3 days. Staff was impolite. They don't greet at all. They don't know anything about hospitality, not helpful, lazy and don't know how to make the guests comfortable. Always busy on their computers.
Review 43:Location. Staff in the restaurant were helpful and nice. Housekeeping did a great job. Stayed for 4 days and they always made up our room really well.
Review 44:Shower arm was hard to tighten and keep in place. Also shower hot tap needed strength to turn on and off, while the cold tap needed much turning before water would come through. Bed and linen good.
Review 45:Size and height of rooms. Staff were very helpful.
Review 46:The bed had a dip in the middle and was quite uncomfortable. There was a dreadful noise early as people started to shower and the plumbing wasn't coping or something
Review 47:It was cheap and central. We live locally and it was good after a night out to just have somewhere close to sleep.
Review 48:No bad experience.
Review 49:Check in was quick and painless. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom adequate. Set back from road so no noise issues. Very good value for money in wonderful inner-city location. Will stay again.
Review 50:The cleaner put all dirty towels in the room without cleaning up. Complain to manger, the man was so rude not helping at all. As Australia citizen we never had this things happened before.
Review 51:An old building in need of a face lift. A lot of homeless people hang around the outside.
Review 52:Close to shops and transport. Food in the restaurant was very good.
Review 53:Very noisy hotel guests near our room on the first night of our stay - Saturday. Should have rung reception but thought they might stop at any time so didn't.
Review 54:Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 55:It's a bit run down but still clean and fine for the price.
Review 56:Great location, right in the CBD but not noisy. Interesting old building and good value for money (paid $90 for a double which is the same as some of the hostels charge).
Review 57:couldnt extend my stay was fully booked
Review 58:exactly what you need clean more than adequate without unnecessary luxury addons . pricey but good value for perth . i would recommend this to anyone except the very ruch who are used to being pampered with luxury.
Review 59:The hotel is a little noisy - you will definitely hear anybody coming or going or talking in adjacent rooms. It didn't keep me awake but if you are a light sleeper, you may want to consider this.
Review 60:The location is perfect - right in the CBD and just a few minutes walk from the train station, meaning it's really easy to get around. The room was very basic, old and a little run-down but everything worked fine and the bed was nice and comfy. This was by far the cheapest option in the CBD.
Review 61:The entrance looked a bit dodgy from the outside. Lack of parking. Suggest that management negotiate a parking deal with Wilsons parking to get a reduced rate for the hotel guests.
Review 62:Convenient and close to the CBD. Reasonably priced.
Review 63:Convenient to the station and local attractions and, surprisingly, very quiet. Suited our needs perfectly for somewhere to sleep on a budget - we had no need for more luxurious inclusions and the location meant that we could easily walk to places such as the CBD and Barrack Street Jetty as well as the station.
Review 64:wifi didnt work quite well, on and off and had to log in again, pillows are too thin and small
Review 65:great location, spacious bathroom, shower, friendly and helpful staff, clean, big beds
Review 66:It was old - a bit like the Bates Hotel feeling - for the price it really isn't what I would call 3 star it probably used to be - and the photos show how the motel use to look not what it is now - it has a musty smell and it is just tired and in need of an update.. If you want a nice bed and not fussed about anything else then this is the place to stay - however, it's a little over priced.
Review 67:The bed was really comfortable
Review 68:wifi did not work in the room (206) . Signal was reported to be strong but consistently failed to create a connection or generate an IP address. It did work in the restaurant and lobby with no problems.
Review 69:staff very helpful and attentive
Review 70:Hotel was built in early 1900 and not much has been done to it since. Paint peeling off walls, cracked vanity basin and light switch ,noisy, breakfast cereal was bit stale. bread for toast was dry.
Review 71:Nothing. Hotel needs a complete revamp to bring up to standard. Would be ok as is for cheap backpacker overnight stay of around $50 a night
Review 72:It was possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Paint peeling off the wall, cigarette burns in the bath, musty smell - dismal.
Review 73:The only good thing was the location
Review 74:ideal location accessible to MRT, Bus terminal and captian Cook wharf. The room is clean and neatly arranged all the time. Comfortable and suitable for travellers.
Review 75:Wifi did not work in my room, but did in the foyer. Breakfast was adequate, dining area lacked atmosphere and style.
Review 76:Grateful you were open late, as my flight had been delayed, staff helpful and friendly, room spotless and comfortable.
Review 77:The room we were offered was very noisy and run down the curtains were very dirty the room had an overall shabby appearance on complaining we were given another room by the staff. The heating was very noisy and soon turned off
Review 78:We were unfortunate to be staying at the hotel whilst the road outside was being dug up. It was centrally situated but we just happened to be staying at the wrong time how-ever, the staff were very helpful
Review 79:we were given room 407 which overlooked the building next door, there was an air con on the roof ,which was close to our room it was on 24 hours a day ,so we did not get much sleep,we would stay there again but would insist on a room on the other side
Review 80:god position everything we needed price about right for what it was
Review 81:The WiFi was a shifty at times. It would drop out quite often and required signing in again every two hours. Of course, it'd usually disconnect itself before then. Didn't bother me too much as I had mobile data but it could be a problem for others.
Review 82:Room was huge! There was so much space that they'd slid in another single bed beside the wall along with the Queen I'd paid for. My friend was salivating over the original finishings and doors so props to that too. It is a gorgeous old building.
Review 83:Staff were not really offering assistance, there were hardly around, maybe too busy with the paperwork. The free wifi wasn't available for many times or it was slow. Facilities are poor and old. Sorry.
Review 84:Booked a triple room, and was given a room with a double bed, and a single. We were given a roll-out bed after some negotiation, but there was no spare bedding to go with it (none left in the whole hotel, apparently), so one of us had to stay warm by using the towels. Pretty average really.
Review 85:Location was good!
Review 86:The room had dust all over the aircon/heater and in the bathroom on the window and the tiles around the bottom of the wall. The heater was very noisy and didn't actually put out any heat at all. There was a used soap bar still in the shower.
Review 87:The location was close to where I needed to be. It was cheap
Review 88:Shower very hard to get to taps and turn on, almost burnt my feet trying to regulate the water temp. you had to get into shower to reach taps. Also a nasty steel thing on bathroom floor difficult to get to toilet without treading/stubbing toes on it. Only one blanket on bed had to request another.
Review 89:Very helpful staff and good dining experience.Right in the heart of the city.
Review 90:The cost of taxis from the airport and back again 8 hrs later.
Review 91:I enjoyed the old world charm of the place, it takes you back to the 60's& 70's.Very quiet. Very comfortable bed. I only stay overnight and only ever in a hotel for 7 hrs so this hotel is great, cheap and Comfortable.
Review 92:On 10th Jul, early morning hours, awaken by the sound of someone forcing the door handle and was trying to enter our room which was right in front of the lift landing at level 2. This happened twice. When we called the receptionist after the 2nd occurrence, we were told that someone tried to break into the hotel and police was called. No one explained anything despite us informing reception again the next morning. :( Glad we checked out the next morning.
Review 93:1- there was no carpark. The Wilson carpark was very expensive . 2- wifi was not good. Very weak connection.
Review 94:I liked the part where my whole family could sleep together. The bed was nice.
Review 95:the dim look of the place, no replacement of coffee facilities, mildew in the bath room
Review 96:it was very close to the city and leading restaurants , clean sheets , clean towels
Review 97:The $100 insurance for each nights stay authorised to our credit card was hugely inconvenient as it reduced our available credit. This after the room was already paid for immediately after booking.
Review 98:The hotel restaurant is first thing you see and looked like a hostel cafeteria. Reception dark and dreary. The corridors were tired and old paintwork. The bath's enamel was very stained & marked, clean (I think). Our room was for four people with two double beds, neither had bedspreads and just had thin old looking fleece blankets, it was so cold that I slept in a cardigan. In fact barely slept and was happy for my alarm to go off at 5am. Couldn't leave quick enough. The aircon barely heated room, turned up to 30 degrees in the morning, still nothing. Could hear either a generator or something all night. Ordered 3 pizzas from room service, pizza had a pool of cheese, not apertising, it takes a lot for pizza to be bad. Had to pay 10% extra for room service, 1 set of cutlery provided with one napkin, brought up in a desposable plastic grocery bag. Do not feel this is a 3.5 star hotel, lucky to be 2. Sorry, very disappointed.
Review 99:The sheets were clean
Review 100:I found the lack of parking stressful for me. Initially parked the car at Wilsons for 3 hours which cost me $26. Then after 6pm drove around the nearest blocks for about half an hour before I managed to secure parking nearby on the street. Didn't stay for breakfast as I knew I had to shift car by 8am.
Review 101:No parking cost additional $34 to park my car staff was rude and nothelpfull lied about what the car park cost was lift carpet stinks bedwas not comfy room floor was not vacuumed
Review 102:SHower was good, good [preasure and clean
Review 103:This is my four stay over a period of 6-9 months prices have increased by a good 10-15% surcharge on credit card payments now internet doesn't work depending on the time of the day no extra blankets in the room
Review 104:The position close to down town Perth
Review 105:The retro style of hotel rooms, very basic. The main door of the hotel Could not even close properly.
Review 106:The location is extremely good, near to shopping areas, food and bus stops.
Review 107:The aircondition unit did not seem to be well maintained - the swivel louvres are missing. The two public parking bays accessible to guests have a 5 minutes maximum parking period but are occupied by inconsiderate drivers for hours on end. Our transport had to park along the "No Standing" kerb site to unload our luggage and upon checkout to load our luggage.
Review 108:Comfortable and clean.
Review 109:I booked the hotel through bookings.com for a Saturday night amd when Igot there was told it was for a Friday. Maybe I made the mistake whilebooking it maybe it was am amin problem. The staff did not care at allregardless of how many times I stayed there in the past and offered nodiscount to stay for that night either.
Review 110:Grotty room, very noisy from aircons on the roof, one blanket on the bed. Although it was cheap I wouldn't go back. It felt like somewhere that people would go to shoot up heroin!
Review 111:Location, cheap
Review 112:I enjoyed the quality and presentation of the room. The facilities were just what i needed. My privacy was maintained but i felt the staff were on hand if i did need anything.
Review 113:The bed sheets were extremely thin and it was freezing, the bed was also hard and when I had a shower water leaked out from under the bath or the toilet (it was hard to tell where from) all over the floor.
Review 114:The price was fairly good/cheap compared to most places and the location was okay too, it's good for a night out, but I wouldn't stay for more than one or two.
Review 115:Multitude of restaurants all around hotel. car park across road and down $ 11 all night. free bus out side hotel.plenty of shops.very friendly helpful bus and taxi drivers and hotel staff.
Review 116:I took the last available room. It was tiny and dingy. I had difficulty trying to insert the key card in the dark! The breakfast was boring and the coffee was so diluted!
Review 117:The front-desk personnel were professional and friendly. They were the only positive element in this hotel.
Review 118:Shower went from hot to cold to hot and then cold again.. The tv remote didn't work and the air con/heater didn't work. It was freezing outside so the heater would have been great. Horrible stay
Review 119:Noisy outside in morning No parking Room tiny no microwave Toilet dirty and broken stuff Can hear next room wall not very tick maybe no wifi
Review 120:City centre
Review 121:Wifi was terrible. It only works for 10 mins a day and it cuts off. Receptionist wasn't very helpful and said there's nothing I can do. Bed was of poor quality and less than comfortable. Room service wasn't available on weekends. They didn't do a good job w room service anyway, not vacuuming the floor which remained dirty for the many days we stayed there. Hotel interior just looked run down and poorly maintained. Noticed a thick layer of dust behind the front counter. Toilet was abit squeezy . Room wasn't very spacious. All in all, it was just bearable.
Review 122:Location was great. Very near to supermarkets, shops , and Perth station. Plenty of restaurants and cafes in close proximity. Right in the middle of cbd
Review 123:Internet was good early in the morning ,but after that it kept cutting out. really old fashioned, in need of a paint job
Review 124:Location, shower pressure was perfect, staff were friendly. Breakfast was basic but good value for money.
Review 125:Had to move rooms due to smell in the first room. Rooms could do with some basic maintenance such as painting, dripping taps, squeaking doors and benches being hygenically wiped. Didn't feel clean at all.
Review 126:Position is very good. Staff were friendly and very helpful with problems.
Review 127:Ineffective air conditioning. TV reception in the room was not good. Tardy response for extra bedding. Reception/foyer area was dark and the furniture was tired and uncomfortable.
Review 128:Convenient location. Pleasant staff.
Review 129:The shower was tired looking and needed renovating. curtains need a wash Been a heritage building I would have liked to see some restoration been done on it.
Review 130:The staff are all happy and friendly and the location is great. I love the little French doors on to the balcony
Review 131:Although the art-deco building raised our hopes - they were dashed when we got inside! The hotel's decor and furnishings are very tired, and the lunch we had when we first arrived was awful!
Review 132:It was in a reasonable position to explore the city
Review 133:Noisy aircon meant that we had to complain. The Night Manager agreed that the noise was unacceptable and got us a room change, but it was very inconvenient to have to do this when we had unpacked in the early evening and then had to repack late at night in order to get a good night's sleep!
Review 134:Very central and had nice restaurants and transport nearby.
Review 135:The only complaint would be the noise the pipes made when we used the bath or shower. Having said that the shower was powerful and clean.
Review 136:Really good value for the four of us. Also good because we were able to all stay in one room, which is often not possible with a 9 and 12 year old.
Review 137:Our bathroom vanity had a huge crack in it. Shower water pressure was weak. It was hard to get any decent water flow out of the shower head which made taking showers longer than necessary. The bathrooms could do with a refurb. Hotel could of offered free continential Breakfast for guests as part of a accommodation package deal.
Review 138:Staff were friendly and helpful with info on Perth Tourist attractions. Hotel rooms were clean and comfortable. Suited our needs. Good value for money for a 4 night stay.
