Reviews for Hay Street Traveller's Inn

Review 1:Not the Travellers Inn fault, but the taxi driver had trouble finding it.

Review 2:Didn't stay long but it was just the right type of accommodation required.

Review 3:Bathrooms and kitchen facilities could be cleaner. Beds quite uncomfortable compared to other hostels

Review 4:Great location for a reasonable price, relatively quiet. No problem with late check in

Review 5:Cleanliness is mediocre at best. Swimming pool was closed off during our stay there for 2 weeks. Aircon not working. Unreasonable noisy drunk patrons.

Review 6:Location within CBD. Friendly receptionists.

Review 7:Free simple breakfast provided but could have been a bit more generous in providing fresh milk for hotel guests.

Review 8:Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. Good location. Very convenient for travellers who travel on public transport to and from Perth Airport and city free transport.

Review 9:When we arrived I was a little bit scared about the people on the street, but the staff told us that we don't need to be worried and that we should just avoid going to the left side during the night (as there is nothing do to or to see on this direction it was perfectly fine for us)

Review 10:It is a really nice and cozy hostel, it was more familiar than other hostels. The staff was nice and helpful and the pool was clean and refreshing as it was really hot :) the room was big and the bathrooms clean.

Review 11:$68 a night for 2 persons , supposed to be aircon , well guess the window was open .... 2 single pipeline beds , bottom sheet , no top sheet , had a blanket. nothing else in room , was supposed to be wardrobe , table , paid extra for shwr in room $6 i think difference , didnt get shwr .. was in the area we needed close to train stn , made a cuppa tea next morning used tea bags we found and milk in fridge , never saw a soul in the place , left at 6am ....

Review 12:Personal kitchen utensils should be provided without request and deposit. Lack of free parking for our convenience 'anytime' parking.

Review 13:Location is good in the City.

Review 14:Couldn't have a tv or food and drink in our room. The floors and beds squeek really bad.shower rooms dont lock so was feeling uneasy knowing some one could just walk in.

Review 15:Location. We were there for the closeness of royal perth hospital. The community kitchen.

Review 16:bathrooms outside the facility, making it hard during the cold weather to leave your room, get outside to use the bathroom. Not so good facilities for value.

Review 17:location

Review 18:dirty underwear in bathroom, terrible bed, construction works in rooms either side of us for duration of stay, inconsiderate staff, strange contractors with their butt cracks fully out on display, deposits for everything, plastic pillows, cold rooms, staff only say sorry. Terrible place, do not stay.

Review 19:internet was ok

Review 20:Unfortunately needs a good spring clean ,

Review 21:Staff friendly , sorted any issues immediately great location , everything you need close by , great kitchen facilities, too cold for me but has a pool

Review 22:Not many power plugs in the room.

Review 23:Cleanliness and arrangement is great. Staff is super attentive and helpful. Close to the CBD. Quiet area, pool, big kitchen, relaxed environment, supermarket and bars on the same street.

Review 24:Booked room was given a pin for key couldn't get key and after hours number wouldn't answer left to find somewhere else to stay waiting to see if I'm charged then will dispute it due to not being able to get in to my room

Review 25:they want overpay, so i want refund. but refuse. then 3hour fighting with them. but no refund. dirty room, no bathroom even outside. worst twin room i never experient. extremely unkind

Review 26:Wifi could be better, pans could be changed, towels could be provided for ease of convenience of travellers

Review 27:The comfort of the room, the cleanliness of the area, breakfast where bread and butter was provided

Review 28:There was a public hair on our shower tap. Rooms looked a bit like a prison Very overpriced for what it is.

Review 29:Bed was really comfortable Good location Nice friendly staff

Review 30:I am 5ft & my feet touched the end of bed :The bed was short and uncomfortable No where to dry ones hands in the toilet. No soap with the towel .No free tea or coffee even at breakfast. Which supposedly is free

Review 31:Close to a couple of quite nice resturants and a couple of supermarkets

Review 32:The staff were not very friendly and tried to charge an extra 10 dollars for late checkout when we had already agreed on a price earlier.

Review 33:Great location from city, great kitchen and lounge room. Nice pool and outdoor area. Was generally pleased overall.

Review 34:Property could benefit from smartening up a bit/repainting, but as it's a budget option that is fairly standard.

Review 35:Pleasant courtyard Relaxed and peaceful atmosphere Helpful staff Excellent CBD location

Review 36:Terrible bed. Springs broken in matress!Grubby walls in kitchen & bathrooms

Review 37:Secured Close to Red Cat (free city bus) Supermarket & eateries close by.

Review 38:No issues encountered

Review 39:Availability of single rooms in hostel promoting itself on quiet environment for their guests. Well located re Cat bus link & other travel, convenience store, & plenty eating places.

Review 40:ive spent 2 years travelling all around the world before I got to oz, this hostel was so good I ended up staying here 2 weeks instead of one nite. how it has bad reviews I really dont understand. this is by far the cleanest hostel ive ever stayed in, the kitchen and toilets were immaculate all the time. the air con was brillant, linen was clean, rooms were spotless. as for the staff, they were amazing. they went out of their way to help me on several occasions. there was not one negative thing about my stay in this hostel!! its the best hostel ever!! thank you!!! :)

Review 41:Some rooms no mosquito nets, eaten alive first 2 nights, had to move rooms. Taps dripping/leaking water in bathrooms, sensor lights stay on for about 3 seconds upstairs! Place dirty, needs renovation. Poor lighting in rooms, hallways, lamps not working in room.

Review 42:Good location, helpful staff, free wifi.

Review 43:Had a misunderstanding with the night reception staff over the way the room was paid for. We also disagreed over having a second person in the room - which had been paid for. Found the staff member to have poor understanding of English, which exacerbated our disagreement. Apart from the bad start, found the place to be generally uncomfortable and old with little in-room facilities,

Review 44:Modern and innovative toilets - the handwashing facilities activated when the toilet was flushed. Price was reasonable - although all it covered was a room with 2 beds.

Review 45:I stayed with my 12 year old daughter and choose this type of accomodation because it shows her a truly multicultural, economic experience. Simple, appropriate and educational..

Review 46:Nice Staff, quiet clean, clear rules, aircon, good and free wifi, pool. It's not a party hostel and good for this price. Ten minutes walk to the inner city, bus and train station as well. All good!

Review 47:Not their fault.... pub next door has to be considered for fri and sat stays.... awake till near 4am. But I was still cool and comfortable :-)

Review 48:Staff. Fresh air through open windows. Pool... cool and clean.

Review 49:15 minutes walking from downtown. The bed was awful.

Review 50:Better than The Hive Hostel for sure! Hay Street Backpacker is cleaner and way more quite. Facilities are enough and clean.

Review 51:the hostel was really basic and shabby, smoking allowed in the shared outdoor area so the smell of smoke was thru the hostel ground floor, and only sheets provided for the bunk rooms,( and new pillows needed!) have to hire a blanket, cup and cutlery! this may be usual for a back packers I don't know.Maybe if they spice up the place more people would use it.

Review 52:staff friendly and helpful, location great- close to the city, easy 10 minute walk. good shops near the hostel, and transport to airport, and city.

Review 53:That we had to leave!

Review 54:Wonderful hostel just outside the heart of the city. My husband and I didn't want to leave after our 7 night stay. We would dedefinitely stay again!

Review 55:This is not a party hostel - which is exactly what we wanted. We had a late night flight arriving from Brisbane and just wanted a bed to rest up in before exploring Perth. This was perfect for that. Lovely and quiet with very friendly staff and considerate lodgers.

Review 56:Oh dear, where to begin? Yes, it was cheap, but....Signs EVERYWHERE, what is not allowed, forbidden, will get you evicted, as if a very grumpy person was constantly shouting at you - and watching (many 24 hr. video surveillance signs posted). Management has the right to enter your room AT ANY TIME. Etc. And strange, depressed (ing) men always hanging about, watching TV all day, one sat on the patin and chain smoked all day, made me want to avoid those areas, rather than try to engage in a conversation, which could lead to the "wrong impression" (single woman speaking from experience). Halls and stairwells dark, possibly to hide the old, stained carpets and chipped paint; motion triggered lights were sometimes slow and insufficient. Room very small, filthy carpet, extremely bright ceiling lights, like a prison cell. It's a pity, such a lovely old period building so run down and with such an oppressive vibe, it's no wonder hardly any backpackers go there anymore. Apparently a rowdy bunch "ruined" it for everyone else (hence the annoying signs). A shot of cash to freshen it up and a change of attitude would do wonders for that place.

Review 57:Staff very friendly and helpful. Shared toilet close to room. Very good bike shop a block away (Cycle Centre), and free bus stopping right in front.

Review 58:I smoked in the smoking area at night. There was a man called Marvin. He was very rude and drunk. He tried to stop me in front of the toilet. I was very scared. He even asked me "How much?" If you are woman and want to live in this place, must avoid from him. But I think he already left from there.

Review 59:The clerks in there are very nice. This place is clean. Wifi is good. I will go back someday.

Review 60:The first room (I think may have been a twin share) was appalling! The photos on the website were far from the actual room. It smelt bad and wasn't really inviting so I paid abit more for a double room up by the pool which is just a bed, a wardrobe and a shower that looked like needed cleaning.

Review 61:The second room we upgraded too was worth the money we had paid for for the first roo.

Review 62:We paid about aud 470 for a twin room but the trouble is that such roomsare on the 1st floor and we had to use the toilets on the ground floorwhich was a hassle and at times the toilets were not very clean. Also nolifts to carry heavy luggage upstairs and nobody to lend a hand. Thecarpets in the room were stained but clean otherwise. Having said thatit is a decent value acceptable basic accommodation for those on abudget in terms of location and size of the rooms looking for basiccooking facilities and just wanting to spend a few days.

Review 63:Location, size of room and security

Review 64:broken sash window, held open with a block of wood, aircon not working. despite paying for it. Outside venue used by smokers little area for nonsmokers to avoid pungent smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bathroom and kitchen not very clean. When are teatowels changed?

Review 65:own crockery and cutlery supplied for a fee rescinded at end of stay.

Review 66:I love the location which is convenient to a lot of places and They have a lot of friendly staff to ask for enquiries and help. Its a great experience staying there.

Review 67:Room was too cold and no heater.

Review 68:Clean and tidy. Stayed in a double room. Pretty good price in Perth. Also free shuttle bus goes very near. Good location.

Review 69:The night manager was the most beautiful person - she was always so happy, helpful and friendly, making us feel a little bit less homesick (thanks HEAPS Heena! :) The two bed room was great for my daughter and I. The location was ideal and close to the bus stop - a fabulous FREE service around the city.

Review 70:the shower was very short and i am short, i still had to squat to use it! there was no lock on the female toilet upstairs near the pool area, this is a safety concern and needs to be addressed. the chinese man behind the desk hardly spoke english this made talking to him a challenge. the sink upstairs near the pool in the female toilet has mould staining on it, possibly even mould.

Review 71:the free wi fi was handy the location was good the italian receptionist and the asian one were both lovely to talk to and friendly, this was helpful. the bag storage was handy. the kitchen was a good size. if you didnt have a towel or blanket you could hire them.

Review 72:Everthing about the place. The room we stayed in had a piece of 4 b 2 holding the window open. Only a bottom sheet and a blanket on bed. Anything extra cost more money. Fire exit doors left open all night. Very unsafe. Fire alarm going off from early hours in the morning. No sign of staff or anyone. I would give this place a wide berth. Pay a bit extra and stay somewhere else!!!

Review 73:Proximity to cbd

Review 74:My bathroom without any toilet and I still need to share the toilet outside. If it is together in the bathroom it will be nice and value for money.

Review 94:Friendly and welcoming. Good instructions mailed out ahead of my antisocial hours arrival.

Review 95:Staff

Review 96:What I liked during our stay is that the place was well kept and the staff was very accommodating.

Review 97:dripping shower, flimsy curtain blocks no light, air conditioner did not work, thin walls, one power point in the room

Review 98:not much

Review 114:No recycling bin. No blankets without a deposit. 2 false fire alarms in a week. A sign saying not to eat more than 3 pieces of bread for breakfast.
