Reviews for Vung Bau Resort
Review 1:The restaurant was poor...better to go to Bamboo resort ...in hotel restaurant is no Vietnamese food and quiet expensive
Review 2:The best beach on the island ever , we were there almost alone ...beautiful sea and place
Review 3:Hard to access it. Not much around. After 9pm everything is closed.
Review 4:We felt like in paradise, and comparing it to the rest of resorts in the area, this was the best one. Nice sunset!! Nice place to relax, not easy to arrive and nothing else really around. But you won't regret it.
Review 5:Fabulous location right by the beach. Friendly, helpful staff. Sea was very safe for kids to swim in. Breakfast good. Perfect if you want to be away from the busier resorts along Long Beach. Bungalows basic but clean and had everything we needed.
Review 6:Location at the seaside is great but place seems far from shops, variety of restaurants etc. (although resort restaurant has very good food).
Review 7:Great staff, beautiful beach, nice and clean bungalows.
Review 8:Some of the staff couldn't understand English , it was hard to get the order in the restaurant right , even when we were having the same for breakfast every day .
Review 9:We liked the location , lovely beach and quiet . The staff were very pleasant , and helpful .
Review 10:Open bathroom results in animals like lizards and spiders (big ones in the bathroom) expensive food and not very high quality.
Review 11:The beach is lovely. Most of the staff was very helpful.
Review 12:This was the worst place I have been to, not only in Vietnam, but ever. The staff is unprofessional to the highest degree:- after arrival the reception-lady was unhappy that we arrived so late (they were informed weeks ago)- they took our passports (which is common in Vietnam) and threw them in a random white bin in the openly accessible Restaurant/Reception area (Identity-thiefs and criminals -find your paradise!)- They asked our friend, if it's ok to give her the key the next morning, because she is tired (ehm NO?!)- The "kitchen" area is absolutely disgusting! We passed by at night and they leave out rice in the heat the whole night. It is smells so bad you could faint. Over the whole stay we just dared to eat few deep fried things and ate potato chips the rest of the time, since there is- Nothing nearby. If this place was cool, which we hoped, it wouldn't be a problem, but it was not so great. By nothing I also mean you can not walk anywhere. You go to the right and find another hotel, you go to the left and want to make a romantic walk, but that part of the beach is just full of trash- the trash that they collect from their beach, they burn on their property, so half of the property smells badly due to a big cloud of smoke every other day.- One should certainly explain those people that this is not the way, but NOONE SPEAKS ENGLISH! Don't get me wrong, I love it when I communicate with hands and legs on the street in an exotic holiday destination, but in your hotel that you rely on, if you have to make "bzzzz-sounds" and paint a triangle in the air to get a moskito net and never get correct orders, they do not understand terms like "receipt", it is frustrating.- EVERY SINGLE INTERACTION WITH THOSE PEOPLE WAS FRUSTRATING!- At this point it is no surprise that in the end they tried to make us pay for random tables on days we haven't even been there.-Moreover this is no hotel or resort.
Review 13:The beach is great, however it is not the Hotels accomplishment. You canalso use the beach without staying which is a much better idea!
Review 14:This is definitely one beach you want to visit and enjoy. We spent a wonderful week here and the beach and resort has everything you need. Long deserted beach to walk at sunset. Great food at the restaurant. Kayaks available and a nearby deserted island to go snorkelling. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is even a massage room if you are not relaxed enough...
Review 15:Because the place is very isolated (even far from the main road) there are no other options close by to eat, or to do anything else actually. You are only able to eat at the resort's restaurant, where the prices are higher than normal due to the isolation issue, and the food is not really worth the price. If you are looking for some night life or anything else besides beach, bed and the food options available, don't bother to book, because this is probably not your place. Probably for us the only downside were the daily power cuts (that lasted around 5-6 hours, and could be during the day or during the night). We couldn't understand if it was the north part of the island or just the resort but it was still a negative mark.
Review 16:We were very well received, the resort provided a free pick-up transfer from and to the airport, on arrival we were greeted with a welcome drink and during all stay (we ended up staying 7 nights) the staff made all the efforts to make us feel confortable and relaxed. Always asking and making sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunetly most of them didn't speek english but their effort compensated the language barrier. Our room was very good (we even think we were given a better room, because it was a room for 4) and it was cleaned everyday, with a daily change of towles. The resort is located at the beach (it's almost a private beach) and there are plenty of activities you can book trough them. Perfect for those looking for peace and quiet, that wish only to enjoy the beach and nothing else.
Review 17:No mosquito net over the bed. First night we had to move in a cheaper non sea view room without getting a refund for this.
Review 18:The Location is a bit far from the touristic long beach, but exactly what we were looking for. It was quiet, nice and clean beach, good restaurant with reasonable prices. Possibility to rent canoe to reach the 20min far away little snorkel island. We had the sea view room which was big enough and had a great view! The staff is really friendly. They also offered a late check out for free. complementary water, fridge. Free and yummy breakfast
Review 19:Note, it is quite a remote location, you need a scooter unless you want to spend all your time in the resort. Also, restaurant could be better, we actually ate in the restaurant in the neighborhood.
Review 20:Nice beach and not too many tourists.
Review 21:It is very far from everything (there is literally nothing to do after dinner, which is fine for a couple of nights). The transfer from ferry port was quoted (by the hotel - see below) at 450,000d, which is hefty considering you're going to need to do it both ways. Also although booking.com advertises that one part of your transfer is free, this is no longer hotel policy, but they will honour it if you quote the booking receipt. On the way back they were quite pushy about getting us to book a transfer at 450,000d, but we had a couple of taxi quotes at 300,000d, which is more like it given the distance. Also we were told there was no shop near by, but actually there is one on the coastal road about a five minute walk away, where you can get snacks and cheaper water etc. Wifi was almost unusable as expected. Power goes off twice a day in the resort at random times, for about 20 minutes a time.
Review 22:The private beach is out of this world and you really are away from the tourist hubbub of Phu Quoc. The rooms are very comfortable (despite lack of A/C). The standard of food in the restaurant is impeccable, every time we ate there it seemed better than the last. Staff are lovely as per the norm in Vietnam. I would highly recommend staying here, with the following advice: 3 nights is plenty, go to some of the neighbouring resorts for lunch / dinner (to break things up), stay another couple of nights in Duong Dong to experience more of Phu Quoc afterwards, if you do so, get a snorkelling / fishing tour form the excellent John's tours who will drop you back in Duong Dong for no extra cost.
Review 23:Beds are a bit hard
Review 24:a wonderful place at a great location. The beach goes for miles to the south! The food was excellent with good variety. The staff is friendly and helpful and try very hard which makes the small language hickups charming. Everything youneed at a great price. The little spa down the beach is good too.
Review 25:The staff has been trying very hard to make our stay great. However, despite great efforts trying, it has to be noted that no one has been able to speak English (except one) which made the day to day communication quiet painful. I would also mention here that there are about 7-8 dogs belonging to the hotel and hanging there. They are well trained and do not bother anyone but they are dogs.
Review 26:The hotel is located on a fairly nice beach (yes, there are some trash here and there but overall and compared to other hotels in the same area, it is a good place). The beach itself is far from everything which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. Given the exorbitant price of taxis on the island, toi lay want to be ready to hang at the beach. (about 400 000d to the airport). Note that the pick up from the airport to the hotel is included in the room so lake sure to organise this with the hotel beforehand! There are kayaks for rent (we initially thought they were free but we were asked 150 000 d a day per kayak) we had a double room which was large and quiet simple in terms of equipment (no ac, no fridge, no safe, but that was OK for us) The restaurant of the hotel is nice and offers a fair variety of local dishes at fair price (a bit expensive compared to HCMC but everything is more expensive on islands! ). In addition, breakfast is included, which was a good surprise although pretty basic.
Review 27:The resort location is a 30 minute drive from the city centre so it could have been good if they had more items for sale such as snacks and sunscreen. They did offer to stop on the way from the airport to the hotel but I didn't understand that they did that as there was nothing much in the area. When I was there I did try and buy one or two snacks but got told they were not for sale and were promised to their sister, they should have just taken them off display.... The downside if you want to do any tour activities is that you have to hire a scooter or pay for a transfer. I did the north island snorkelling trip and they picked me up on the beach (free) but when I did the south island tour the transfer was around USD$30 which was more than the cost of the actual tour. The staff really need some decent training in general hospitality service as it was often a struggle to order the right drink and sometimes they got the meal wrong. The wifi was hit and miss and I ended up using the restaurant's wifi as I could never get the hotels wifi working. Just a reminder to charge your camera/phone/laptop during the night as the power is shut off during the day. It's no real issue just something to be aware of. I didn't have any hot water in the shower but I just ended up either having a cold shower or going for a swim in the ocean. It was also very couples focused so was a bit lonely if you are on your own...
Review 28:I had room #3 and I awoke each morning to hear the waves lapping on the beach and the sun peaking in through the curtains. I started the day with a quick walk along the beach and onto an early breakfast. The breakfast is quite basic but it was included with the room and was enough food to keep you satisfied until lunch. You only really have the option of catching a taxi to town or another resort if you want to eat but luckily the food in their restaurant was fairly decent and reasonably priced. The remote location meant perfect peace and quite but it would have been great if the staff were a bit more proactive in ensuring you knew what there was to do for activities. The kayak's were good fun to get to fingernail island but it would have been good if these were included in the price of the resort and not a daily charge. If you stay around a week they offer free transfer to and from the airport which is great and saves you around 900,000 VND
Review 29:Rubbish and dirt everywhere. Booking.com told seawiev from all roms. We looked in a Lot of trash. A Lot of dogs and chicken everywhere making much noise in the Night. Staff DONT speak english, only the manager if he,is there. Should be Nice and quiet place for lovning holiday, bur is the opposite. The restaurant is so poor and not worth to try. Place is Too fahr from the City. And the Road to the place is : highway to hell!!
Review 30:Very Nice Beach With good swimming. You Can go and swim to fingernail Island where superior snorkling is on the menu.
Review 31:Food service can be very slow and disorganised at times. Language barrier can make things more difficult but they do try very hard. I would advise keeping up to date with bills for drinks, food, motorcycles etc. as they don't keep perfect records, they presented us with bills a couple of times that weren't ours or tried double charging, don't think it was malicious, just not good record keeping!
Review 32:Lovely private beach, peace and quiet, food was nice, very good value, really friendly staff- for the most part! Would definitely return.
Review 33:We booked ferry and bus tickets to reach Chau Doc at the resort and we had to pay 55 $ each, basically twice the actual price for this service. Since the Wifi in the structure doesn't work properly, we would suggest to book anything in advance or to buy the tickets directly at a tour agency in town to get honest prices.
Review 34:Quiet and remote, beautiful landscape
Review 35:The animals. One or two resort dogs are ok but the place has a dog pack of 6-7 dogs. In the daytime the dogs sleep in the area or come to the restaurant. But in the evenings and nights the dogs are a big problem. You can't walk on the beach after the sunset because the all the dogs are "guarding" it and following and barking at you. We stayed 10 nights and many nights the dogs had some kind of riot. It was impossible to sleep since the dogs barked and howled couple of hours of the night. The resort has some chickens and roosters. They even come into the restaurant. I assume some of the people find this quite annoying.
Review 36:The place is on the beach and very peaceful. The cottages are functional and nice. The manager and the stuff are polite, friendly and try very hard to please the guests. Overall very nice place to get away from it all. And the beach is very good for swimming, also for the children.
Review 37:Chaos.. The staff is quite unorganised and this lead to funny situations :-). Be sure to always check what they charge on your room, pay everything right after consumption an keep receipts. Good after all, but they can definitely improve in this point. Food not so great and quite expensive. We went to dine close by.
Review 38:We liked the beach, far away from tourists. Quiet and very nice, clean to swim. Room was clean and nice
Review 39:Personnel is really incompetent. Order a beer - get two soft drinks, order chicken - get an omelette. The manager even forgot to book the airport-service, so we almost mist our flight. We wanted to rent one of the motorbikes, however the manager could not find the key so we had to wait until the next day - really annoying. Because the place is so remote, you're stuck in the same restaurant with the same incompetent personnel every day. No wifi in the rooms. Really bad smell on the beach because of the dirty toilets next to the restaurant.
Review 40:Great beach! Nice location if you like to be on a really remote and quiet spot. Mosquito nets in the room.
Review 41:We enjoyed our stay and know that the price is very low for Phu Quoc. However, there are some MAJOR issues: 1. Very young and unexperienced staff that constantly confuses orders and bills. Almost none of our orders was correct. Make sure to ALWAYS pay your bills right after your meal/drink and keep the receipt, otherwise they might charge you too much (or too little) or mix it up completely. The manager started to cry after I insisted that I paid a bill for a dinner (which I always did) that she could not find the receipt for. 2. Room was NOT CLEAN (nor cleaned during our 4 days stay) especially the bathroom. 3. Construction in the "resort" starts every day at 7am. 4. DOGS: there are many stray dogs that constantly bark and chase each other (and guests). The owners do not care at all about it.
Review 42:Located at the best beach on Phu Quoc (next to Sao beach in the South). Good value-for-money, but still a lot of unused potential. Remote location, so very tranquil, but also not much to do (besides sunbathing, kayaking etc.). Rent a scooter to explore other areas of the island, but beware that the island is very large (2 hours by scooter to the south, e.g. Sao Beach). Pickup service from the airport was free (way back cost 500,000VND). Good food (if it comes at the same time) and good prices. Go to the other resort down the beach for a little bit more professional restaurant once in a while (however their beach is not as nice). This resort has a lot of potential. The owner and the working kids try their best, but it's all very provisional still. Only suitable for travelers that can handle the chaos. If that does not bother you too much, you can have a good stay.
Review 43:No atmosphere in the restaurant/bar on an evening. No lit paths to the bungalow at night. Piles of rubble on the ground where the bungalows are finished.
Review 44:This resort is a 1 hour drive from the airport and very remote, but it is set on a beautiful beach. We loved it as it was quiet - only a few people stayed there and used the beach, the food is really good in the restaurant and the bungalow is spacious. We stayed for 4 nights so got one airport transfer for free which is great. The staff are very friendly but only a couple of them speak a little bit of English so it can be difficult getting what you want, but you get there in the end! There are kayaks and snorkels you can use too. However, when it came to paying our bill we were charged for using the kayaks and for our airport transfer, so watch out for this! They removed the charges as the transfer was free and we were not made aware of the kayak charges. (Apparently it's 150,000 to use them.) I would recommend staying here, because the location is amazing but you need to know some things before you go: It is under construction so it is a bit rough around the edges - even where they have finished the bungalows, the ground around it isn't finished as there are no clear paths and rubble laying around. No electricity during the day. Very poor wifi which didn't matter to us but if you need to plan more of your trip or book flights etc, that could be a problem. I also found it strange that the manager, who did speak English, showed us to our room then didn't even say hi to us throughout our stay.
Review 45:No Wi Fi in rooms.
Review 46:Personal, very nice people always try to help. Provide any help what is possible. Location, it's far from city but for other hand it's very quite place. No much tourists. Perfect for laying on seaside and listen the sound of Ocean.
Review 47:Wifi was poor, as with everywhere on the island, and there's not much to do at night after dinner, but you come here to relax not party so who cares
Review 48:The hotel is on a beautiful, quiet, clean beach. It really is idyllic. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. You could see that while some of the staff did not have perfect English they were extremely keen to learn (we could hear them taking lessons and practising). The food is in the restaurant is good and they let us use the kayaks and snorkels for free to go to the nearby island (tons of coral and fish). We had a fantastic time, the place is so stunning and the staff made it even better. We were so glad we chose to come here.
Review 49:There is truly nothing that we didn't like here! Just don't go here if you: -don't like to ride a scooter (the resort is quite far from the nearest town and taxi's are expensive on the island) -are looking for luxury stay, the bungalows are very clean and beautiful but basic (only a fan, no tv, only electricity available from evening till morning)
Review 50:Great place with staff that really goes the extra mile to make your stay as perfect as possible. Located in a beautiful and very quiet bay. Staff cleans the beach every morning. Manager speaks very good English and is doing great efforts to improve the English of his staff. Food in the restaurant is great and prices are very reasonable compared to many other resorts
Review 51:Lack of electricity (generator include only at night), no internet (depends on electricity and only in the restaurant), the manager of Bao (cheated several times), the cost of food for the guests in the restaurant, the cost of cocktails ($ 10 apiece), the cost of the rooms, condition rooms, lack of tracks, lack of mattresses on beds, groomed external territory, remote object otstusvie free shuttle to the city center, the high cost of bikes(at a cost of $ 10 on the island of 6-7)
Review 52:Gorgeous beach, sea views, few people persoonal, food quality
Review 53:The cuisine is below the vietnamese average (the average in Vietnam means already delicious food) however the included breakfast is really nice! Surrounding of the resort is still a bit chaotic, but they just getting started, so I guess in following weeks it will be super great! Count more than one hour to make it to the airport. We missed our flight ´cos driver was quite relaxed and said one and half hour is enough...
Review 54:Really nice stuff, always trying to help us as much as possible. Bungalows are really cozy, nice and clean!
Review 55:Bungalow was ok, but very basic
Review 56:Very nice Beach!!!!
Review 57:Only thing was the beds wich very quite hard
Review 58:Very Nice Beach - great for totally relaxed holiday. Very few people
Review 59:Nothing
Review 60:Beach, clean rooms, staff
Review 61:Nothing!
Review 62:Friendly staff, fantastic location, gorgeous clean beach. Everything we wanted for a few days chilling after the craziness of Hanoi!
Review 63:Every day the electricity turned off for 5 hours.
Review 64:Great beach, not to much tourists.
Review 65:The location is inside of an ally..not simpathetic alone at night
Review 66:The room was brand new..we liked it alot
Review 67:nothing
Review 68:Rooms with beautiful view. Staff is very friendly. Relaxed and quite place. Motorbike rental if you want to explore the surroundings.
Review 69:it took the taxi nearly 1hr from the nightmarket to get back to the hotel
Review 70:The Staff are very friendly and helpful
Review 71:Kindness of the people, the food, the place
Review 72:hard to get to.
Review 73:quiet, great staff. excellent location
Review 74:the staft, not trustworthy, they promiss the world, but they don't delivery
Review 75:the beach
Review 76:The bed was pretty hars, but same in rest of vietnam
Review 77:We liked the clear water, the free kayak, the sweed doggys. It was a lovely beach!
Review 78:Beds were so hard and uncomfortable
Review 79:Rock hard mattress and pillows. poor wifi
Review 80:Location. Friendliness.
Review 81:The rooms are a bit basic, but are clean. For a near empty beach to yourself, you have to compensate somewhere, so this is only very minor issue.
Review 82:Probably one of the best locations on the island. The beach was clean, as the owners take special care in keeping it free of washed up plastic. The food was excellent, and the staff just couldn't do enough for you. Despite some minor language barriers, and a bit of fun in explaining things, they always worked out what we wanted. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place to someone who wants a get away from it all, and have a truly relaxing holiday. We ate there every night, and enjoyed every meal ... their Vung Bau spring rolls and chicken hotspot is to die for. It's family run, so you get that cozy feeling, which often makes a holiday.
Review 83:2 fans in our room rather than just 1 would have made sleeping most comfortable as we had 2 separate beds on opposite sides of the room.
Review 84:The very friendly and helpful staff and the beautiful, quiet beach.
Review 85:From other point of view location was too far from main attractions. The territory is still under construction and wasn't clean especially near the restaurant and the beach. Kitchen and nearby place look like slum in the middle of the resort. Staff is quite noizy, even in early morning. Staff doesn't understand English well. Old motobikes for rent, first one we had rented was broken and stopped working in 2-3 km from the resort. So we had to drag it back to Vung Bau.
Review 86:Location of the resort for quet and peaceful relaxation. Staff was friendly and nice. Food in restaurant was good but limited menu. The bungalows were clean and bathroom was originally designed with plans in it. Beach was pretty good if you stay only on resort territory. Free transfer if you stay more than 5 days.
Review 87:Wifi wasn't good
Review 88:a perfect getaway :) friendly staff, beautiful location, nice bungalows, good restaurant (but an even better seafood restaurant on the beach up north) If you want to get around you have tp rent a motorbike (the rent them in the resort) - it's worth exploring the island, but drive very carefully!
Review 89:The WiFi wasn't great but this is true for the whole islands. The location was far away from town, which we wanted but if you want to access amenities this is not convenient for that.
Review 90:Really nice staff, lovely clean rooms. Was very nice to have a private beach. Good food at the restaurant and it was well priced, really good iced coffee.
Review 91:Check in was a little bit longer (the room was not ready) you should know that the hotel is not near the city and there are no shops around
Review 92:Nice Beach (only our Resort in the Bay so it was lonely), good food at the Resort-Restaurant with a good price especially compared to the next hotels at this side of the island, friendly staff, there is a snorkeling place only 8 minutes away with a motorbike.
Review 93:The staff doesn't speak english very well Shower with not many pression Pollution around You need to rent a scooter if you want to move...no taxi around
Review 94:Very nice place smily staff
Review 95:Difficult to leave the resort - very rough dirt road to the main town of Duong Dong (but this could also be a positive if you want to really get away from it all)
Review 96:Friendly staff, stunning clean beach, good value for Phu Quoc, very good food and fruit shakes
Review 97:We had to pay 900k Dong (45$) for pickup from the airport and gettimg there again. Unfortunately the owner of the resort told us the price in the end, we thought the pickup would be for free. Food is not the best and quite expensive if you eat there all the time. The opions wre limited because its quite off the beaten track. The wifi often didnt work. Quite annoying if you want to work.
Review 98:Very quiet and lonely beach
Review 99:The matress was not that good.
Review 100:The quiet and rustique area and friendly staff made our stay pleasant. There are not a lot of tourists here. The sea is warm and clear. You can walk and swim to a beautiful small island for snorkling. The restaurant offers a good variety of dishes. You can rent a motorbike, which is necessary to explore the island. The bungalows have a beach/sea view.
Review 101:Friendly staff, good beach
Review 102:Stuff speaks bad english.
Review 103:The beach is one of the best on the hole island.
