Reviews for Red Lion Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown

Review 1:I hated it it was one of the worse experiences I had at one of these chains I felt profiled do to my appearance even though I paid my money and I was treated poorly b staff...I was in so many words called a liar and told I was making more of the issue then what it really was....I talked to a assistant general manager and she felt that compensation for my one night stay was sufficient not once was a apology issuesd for the disrespect or the confusion that the staff caused ...I personally would never stay here and I would say I don't recommend a person of color staying there either but I don't think anybody should spend their money at this establishment due to the lack of care and concern of all guest!!!! Did I mention the asst Gm hung up in my face before conversation was done and was rather hostile herself

Review 2:It was central

Review 3:Can be a confusing walk to your room due to layout and signage does not always point right way.

Review 4:Always a pleasure to stay here. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and modern. Beautiful city or mountain views from almost every room.

Review 5:We only stayed one night on our way to some place else but for the one night we really enjoyed the hotel, the staff and the breakfast which was a decent one especially for the money we paid for the room. The staff was very helpful helping us store our bikes and making suggestions for dinner.

Review 6:I didn't like that I was told I could hold the room with my card but could switch to cash for payment. The room was automatically charged to my card and I couldn't do anything about it. Lord knows I tried too. I walked away and let my bf handle it. It's my card but the payment was supposed to be on him. It's just more trouble than it should of been and super mad I didn't just pay the deposit with cash due to poor communication from the employee; Because the right questions were asked.

Review 7:The beds and pillows were super comfortable which is extremely important to me. Will stay again for that reason alone. But they also have very nice services. Breakfast was included even though I didn't pay for the extra breakfast special. It was also the best continental breakfast I have ever had. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, cereal, fruit, milk, oj, and more. The dining area also included booths! A++ and a workout room to work off that bacon with nice machines.

Review 8:Nobreakfast included.

Review 9:the room was spacious with a refrigerator and a micorwave. the bed was comfortable. We had dogs and the access to the outdoors was very good. We wanted to watch a football game and Legends with its large screen TVs was an easy walk away.

Review 10:The location was great. Close to downtown and not far from the university. The breakfast was okay, it's the basic scrambled eggs, pancakes, cold cereal.

Review 11:The wifi is poor, and breakfast ...

Review 12:The size of the room, the comfortable bed, the location easy to everywhere if you drive a car, the friendly employee.

Review 13:Room window was not sealing properly, generally badly insulated, so it was cold even with the heating on.

Review 14:Easy administration - check-in/check-out and organisation of to airport.

Review 15:- Wifi never worked properly in my bedroom, it was constantly going down. I had to go to their business center in the first floor every time I needed a reliable internet connection. - But the business center was frigid cold, even though the thermostat was set to maximum heat. The bedroom also remained uncomfortably cold, even after I raised the thermostat to 80F. - The bedroom could use some new carpeting and wallpaper. - My bedroom was in front of the elevator, and I could hear its bell in the middle of the night, every time it would stop at my floor.

Review 16:- Good breakfast. - Comfortable beds and pillows. - Staff was very nice.

Review 17:We have 2 adults and 3 children, so we were very specifically looking for a hotel with rooms that slept 5. The booking page said there was a sofa bed in the room and even had pictures of a sofa chair that looked like it could pull out into a small bed or at least could sleep our youngest with the ottoman pulled up close. But our room only had two queen beds. We asked for a cot, but were told we couldn't have one due to due fire regulations. So our children had to sleep 3 across in a bed and were very unhappy about it. We told the person at the desk about our disappoinment and how we felt misguided by their website, but they didn't do anything to make it up to us. Breakfast could have used some additional gluten-free options.

Review 18:Clean, quiet, and comfortable. Breakfast was really nice.

Review 19:The parking was easy and accessible to our room. The front desk staff were nice. Not overly friendly, but they were very busy when we arrived so I think they were doing the best they could. The room was nice and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. Even though the hotel was busy and Halloween partiers were everywhere, we didn't notice the commotion once we were in our room. We thought it was a great hotel for the price and would stay again.

Review 20:Neighborhood a little questionable-we were panhandled on our way to our car, carpet had a snag in it, bathroom shower head needed to be cleaned

Review 21:Accessability to venues we needed, room comfort.

Review 22:The shower wasn't great. There was no water pressure and it was a little small.

Review 23:Staff were efficient and accommodating. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable.

Review 24:why do ibave to call to reception and say that i need a housekeeping for my room? Shouldn't the hotel clean my room every day?

Review 25:Housekeeping was good

Review 26:Tried to call for info about my reservation and certain services. Phone rang and rang. No answer - many times. Called central reservation office and even they could not get the hotel to answer - called the bar - no ans. A problem for someone trying to reach me for emergency. No breakfast. Room view was not attraactive.

Review 27:Stayed on 2nd floor, near elevator - convenient. It was clean, no noise. Not bad for the price, but the price I got on Booking.com was quite a bit lower than the price over their reserv. line.

Review 28:EVERYTHING. The staff was ridiculous, including maintainance. I asked for a crib for our son, the guys spent 20 mins beating the walls outside the room trying to get it up, and then still couldn't get one side together & brought it in to leave and said "well I guess it's broken but here you go." The "balconies" to enjoy the city view, are SEALED. You can't even open the doors to get on it. There is only 2 entrances into the whole building, and parking isn't near any of those. Multiple people were complaining because of parking & accessibility.

Review 29:It was downtown SLC.

Review 30:Bathroom was not entirely clean, housekeeping did not replenish toiletries on second night of stay. The shower head had a broken jet and sprayed water all over the bathroom. Wifi was not functioning for most of my stay, making work difficult.

Review 31:Comfortable bed, good air conditioning.

Review 32:Lots of items that needed repair, faucets were loose, wallpaper falling off, tub faucet leaks to the point where the water drips off the edge and soaks the floor, ceiling leak repair above bed was very poorly done, curtain pull bars were broken off. Additionally we made the reservation for 5 people and we were initially put in a room with 2 queen beds, no pull out couch and no space for a rollaway bed. I was told by the hotel I would need to put one person on the floor unless I wanted to pay and additional $100+ per night to upgrade. However when I called Booking.com customer service, they got it handled with the hotel and we moved to a bigger room.

Review 33:On the surface, the room looked great and was a good value

Review 34:The hotel staff was not very friendly. Was not given direction to room. Updates needed badly... For the same amount of money I could have stayed at the Double tree across the street.

Review 35:The location.... the pool and having a restaurant on site.

Review 36:For how much we had to buy, it seems silly that breakfast isn't included. Also, we went to use the hot tub and got told it was closing half an hour early, which is found later was a complete lie.

Review 37:The location was great for what we wanted and the bed was comfortable.

Review 38:- first night one of the pillows had hair on it and one of the sheets showed blood stains after complaint next day room and linen was clean - stayed 3 nights, breakfast was each morning the same no variety and little choice

Review 39:nothing in particular

Review 40:There were live and dead moths in our room. The room was dirty/dusty in the corners and other places and smelled dusty. There were panhandlers in the lobby and around the entry. No room service and the restaurant didn't open until 5 pm, although it advertised being open all day.

Review 41:The bed was comfortable.

Review 42:Stayed on 8th floor - couldn't open window. Noisy A/C

Review 43:Comfy beds, perfect location, mountain view from 8th floor. Good coffee place around the corner (also drive thru)

Review 44:The shuttle driver Jacob/Jason/Jeremy/ can not remember name, he was from St. Louis. He was great very friendly and made us feel comfortable

Review 45:They only have 2 cribs for a hotel with 9 floors seems a bit ridiculous. Also I had called ahead to request that the rooms be adjoining because of having young children they told me to make sure to specify online that I needed those yet when we got there there were no cribs, and they weren't even going to have the rooms on the same floor. They told us we could come back to the desk in the morning and request a change. We did so, got adjoining rooms and they said they would bring the crib right up. Never happened and when we asked a staff member they just rattled off that there were only 2 cribs and probably weren't available. Then to top it off the alarm clock was set for midnight and went off. Luckily didn't wake up my 2 kids one being a newborn. In my opinion that should be something that they check when cleaning a room. Overall the staff weren't very helpful. This was my 4th time staying here and was very disappointed.

Review 46:The rooms are nice and comfortable.

Review 47:1. Had reservation but couldn't check in until 5pm, kept us waiting for a hour, no apology at all, and it seemed did us a favor offering a room 2. Had to show the booking.com confirmation email to claim "free-breakfast" was included in room rate

Review 48:Check-in was smooth. We arrived at the hotel in the morning and were allowed to check-in to our hotel room early as it was open. The hotel is located on the outskirts of downtown, but as the downtown area is compact, if you enjoy walking you can easily walk to Temple Square, the convention center, the mall etc.

Review 49:The restaurant was under staffed. The menu was minimal. Cook was good but nothing else was.... No selections. Old room service menu.

Review 50:The pool was awesome so was the balcony for forth of July! Good views, nice staff, clean hotel.

Review 51:The bed was so enjoyably, they chose the best supplier for overall top notch comfort . Great nicely balanced panorama view of city and countryside. Restaurant onsite if you desired to stay in without wondering for a late evening snack. For the price, by far the best!

Review 52:This is usually my favorite hotel. However, this time, not so much. There wasn't any booklet containing hotel information, and the front desk was no help at all.

Review 53:The location was great. The room was clean.

Review 54:The first room we were given 335? was behind a very noisy bank of elevators, A/C noisy, room missing fridge, no soap dish and looked out over ugly rooftop.n

Review 55:The second room we had, 844' was much quieter than first, better view, had a fridge and soap dish in bathroom.

Review 56:There was a motorcycle convention and loud motorcycles revving engines until 1 am. Parking was difficult. A lot of people outside going to a bar/club next to hotel that were loud. Older hotel.

Review 57:Bed was comfortable. Room was clean.

Review 58:The first room we had before a family reunion rental house, was good and clean. Yet no towels or ice bucket or book in there. The second room we had following the reunion was small small and dirty. There was a tile missing in the bathroom. Stains in the tub. The tub was clogged while showering. The buttons to the phone reaching the front desk didn't work. There were dirty items under the bed skirt that didn't belong to us. Very gross. The bed was worn down and terrible. I was extremely extremely dissapointed. According to the book it said that before 9 am the shuttle runs every 20 min. When we went to catch our flight we were running because that was wrong. So we were behind schedule. When we were going to be picked up by the shuttle on arrival they passed right by us although I had called and alerted them to us being there. They then said that was due to a full shuttle. Then someone else mentioned it and said the reason was the radio didn't work. In other words there was no reason. It was not a full shuttle. Reds diner changed their menu to overpriced and small. Online you see a variety of more and way more affordable. It was wrong too. Wasn't great.

Review 59:Gift shop

Review 60:When we arrived the toom was dirty. I had them come clean the room again, but i had to show the house keeper what was dirty...there was hair in the fridge, sink and bathtub. The floor was dusty with hair in the corners. The floor had stuff on it like it needed vacuumed, the bottom of the toilet was filthy. The night stand had spills on it. The windows were dirty, inside and out. The elevators were disgusting....floors on the elevators were filthy...they had a dirty smell. The halls needed vacuumed. ...managment needs to show the house keepers how to clean....they need to step up their game in the cleaning department. It was flat out filthy. .i didn't want to take my shoes off to even walk on the floors!

Review 61:Tyne location

Review 62:There were several transients hanging around the area and parking lot. Would have preferred to stay closer to the nicer main downtown area had I been more familiar with the area.

Review 63:Good price and clean facilities. I liked that the sliding door opened all the way providing access to the small balcony. Good hot breakfast included with room rate.

Review 64:1st room we got the air conditioning was not working, the 2nd room was not prepared/cleaned, the 3rd was finally acceptable. Our rate had bfast included but we were charged for it, later corrected. Stupid errors of their staff.

Review 65:Great location, room was acceptable

Review 66:Paid $ 168 first night air conditioning not good pillows too soft second night paid 100.00 first room smelled like animal pee moved us to another room air conditioning not flowing room hot and muggy No sleep both nights would not stay again

Review 67:Close to restaraunts

Review 68:My room was facing west and during afternoon hours made my room veryhot! Called maintenance came fast but did not replace filter which thatwas needed! Ice machine broken on my level big inconvenience

Review 69:Loved the sheets, and bed! Cleaning lady very nice and loved shedidn't bother, no one did....

Review 70:The neighborhood was a little sketchy. As a couple of 20 year old females, we were afraid to leave the hotel after dark. Continental breakfast would have been nice, but was not offered.

Review 71:The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, the wifi required you to sign in every 24 hours, but it worked well. Overall a nice stay.

Review 72:The a/c in our room had a hard time cooling down the room. It also wasn't cleaned very well.

Review 73:The beds were comfortable. It has a nice exercise room.

Review 74:No continental breakfast. Room was next to door to stairs and above entrance driveway... So it was very noisy.

Review 75:The room was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable.

Review 76:Our booking indicated we had free breakfast, but then they tried to charge us for it. We had to retrieve our booking and prove it. They acted like this wasn't something they deal with every day. It seems like a systemic problem.

Review 77:The hotel has lots of free parking, free internet, and a reasonable swimming pool, etc.The hotel is a bit dated, but convenient to downtown.

Review 78:the bathtub faucet leaks badly and we couldn't get the air cool enough for my wife

Review 79:had a nice time in the pool and the hot tub room was nice bed and TV were very nice overall good place

Review 80:Some things were broken. Bathroom fan. TVs in workout room. Curtains.

Review 81:Beautiful and clean. I loved that there were disinfection wipes available in the workout room.

Review 82:The only thing I didn't like was that about 9:30 am a housing keeping person knocked on the door and he was doing that to all the rooms. I guess to see if the room was empty or not. Anyhow, the should have a better system (computers) to tell if the guest has checked out or not.

Review 83:I was surprise to read so many negatives reviews about this place, so I was afraid to book a room, but the price was good. Anyhow, the hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff was good and they took care of me right away.

Review 84:Not sure who she was but she had an office with a light up sign behind her. (Vine) was rude, dismissive, and acted like I was putting her out. Maybe Zarabeth can give her a few pointers on how to treat people? Also...your Wi-Fi is pretty non-existent...

Review 85:Zarabeth - hands down one of the most friendly, customer service oriented, likable front desk person I've met in a long long time. Knew all about the area, went out of her way to make sure we were happy. Hope this girl stays with Red Lion and/or in hospitality for a long time. She'll go far if she keeps up the wonderful attitude.

Review 86:Room was nice but didn't have any soap or shampoo little bottles in the bathroom which was an inconvenience, but would stay there again!

Review 87:Nice hotel! Super friendly staff especially when it was nearly two in the morning.

Review 88:The bed was very soft, kind of like a hammock. Otherwise I would have rated even higher.

Review 89:Easist access of any downtown hotel. Just off the 600 South exit a couple of blocks from the freeway. Right next to Maverik gas station for easy fill up.

Review 90:Unfortunately, the staff made me not want to choose this hotel again. I had made a reservation for two rooms, upon check in I needed to change one of the rooms and it was told that I could. The other part of my party showed up to check into the second room, and they weren't given the room promised to them and then we're charged for a roll away when the staff messed up the room situation in the beginning. When we went to the desk to fix the issue or get some resolution, the woman at the front desk was horribly rude, when if it wasn't a rude interaction I wouldn't be writing this now. Then his children got stuck in an elevator and we're there for over 40 minutes with this same front desk lady not sensing any urgency to get them out. They were fine in the elevator, but no urgency to get them down. The way this issue was handled by the front desk staff was less than appropriate. I will not stay there again, due to.poor staffing.

Review 91:The location was conducive to the reason for staying.

Review 92:Front desk staff was not engaging and a lack of overall service. Rooms not the cleanness. This property needs a full renovation.

Review 93:Good location, the beds are great.

Review 94:I always ask for extra towels and appencoffee ameneties, sometimes I am unable to speak with housekeeping like I would like. I also like my service done before 3pm which doesn't always h

Review 95:these past fewn months, I have lived almost primarily from hotels and I appreciate the comfort level that I experience while visiting Red Lion inn

Review 96:I didn't have any bowls or info as to babysitters, vets, etc disseminated to me

Review 97:No qiestions were asked about my dog, and staff was very accommodating.

Review 98:Noisy. You could hear outside voices and traffic as if the window was cracked open. Stains on the sheets, called housekeeping twice before someone came to change the sheets.

Review 99:We would have liked to have been a little closer to downtown Salt Lake City, but it was still not a bad location

Review 100:We found our stay at the Red Lion to be very enjoyable. We wanted a get-away and chose the Red Lion. We really don't have any complaints.

Review 101:Your wi-fi is the slowest I've ever dealt with other places I've stayed. I would not have been very happy if I had been a business person who needed speed to work on a deal.

Review 102:The location easy access to I-15,close to the stores and malls we like to shop at.

Review 103:They gave me the wrong room first of all. When we had them change our room the a/c system needed repair and was so noisy we could not sleep.

Review 104:The over all stay was ok.

Review 105:This was the third time staying here due to the vicinity of the FHL. I booked my room on line and there was a box for preferences. I asked not have a room next too or near the elevator. This is the second time this hotel ignored my request and placed me next to the elevator. I will be finding a new hotel. When I spoke to a front desk clerk I was pretty much given a cold shoulder and felt like I was wrong for bringing it to their attention.

Review 106:Not much to pick on. Only suggestion would be for wider choice of breakfast. bacon almost "oinked".

Review 107:Comfort, rate, facilities, free parking, location. Free airport shuttle, although I didn't need it this trip.

Review 108:Nothing really,I wish I could stayed longer, as a guest,

Review 109:The staff was very friendly, attended greeting, with welcome, that was great! I would recommend others to come and visit, the lobby was awesome with style, love you,,

Review 110:Our room wasn't ready when we arrived at 3:00, check in time. We waited in the lobby almost an hour for the room to be cleaned. The host did not seem very knowledgeable and was not very sociable or welcoming. We thought this was unusual for such a huge, well decorated hotel. Breakfast was not included, but available in the hotel coffee shop. It was pretty expensive.

Review 111:Room was nice, as expected.

Review 112:Great coffee pot, but housekeeping never replenished, so I had to keep asking at the front desk.... Water pressure in the shower, not sure if can be helped, but just barely trickled out. Pressure in the sink was fine though....

Review 113:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were well appointed and clean. Friendly shuttle service to and from the Airport was awesome!

Review 114:The front desk girl could have told us directions to our room or the best place to park our car.

Review 115:The bed and pillows were the best I've ever slept on in a hotel. The room was very clean.

Review 116:The breakfast buffet they had was NOT worth the money that they charged....not enough selection and as good as I expected.

Review 117:I liked that there was a place to eat on site so that we didn't have to find a place to eat for dinner. It was decently priced but there was no one else in there at the time we ate.

Review 118:There were bugs on the curtains. They were just harmless box elder bugs and in the hotel's defense, we forgot to tell them about them before we left. Since we knew they were harmless, we were not alarmed.

Review 119:Great location. Very helpful staff. When we realized we had forgotten our toothbrushes and toothpaste they delivered some to our room. Comfortable night's sleep.

Review 120:Room was not clean. Room keys didn't work 50% of the time. Staff was slow and were more occupied by all the pilots and stewards than the guests waiting to check in

Review 121:Parking

Review 122:Only one receptionist on duty for such a large hotel. Waited one hour for pick up from airport after 3 phone calls from airport staff.

Review 123:Large room with very comfortable beds. Friendly staff especially in restaurant. very clean room and bathroom

Review 124:We were travelling from Denver by amtrak train. We arrived very late and phoned the hotel for assistance with either a transfer or taxi. The receptionist was initially quite rude saying our room had been cancelled. However when we arrived at the hotel a different receptionist was most helpful and polite and we enjoyed the stay.

Review 125:We really enjoyed our short stay in salt lake city. The hotel was clean with amazing views from the bedroom window.

Review 126:We booked the room over line and arrived with in the next 3 hours the lady was very rude and would not give us a room because we were only 18. I think if you have a credit card you can get a room

Review 127:Rooms were nice and renovated. Nice location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Shuttle was available most of the time to take me to convention center and airport.

Review 128:In Washington where we are from , Red Lion is known on the higher end of most hotels in our area. That sure wasn't the case with our stay in Utah! The air conditioner was extremely noisy and didn't work well. The decor needed upgrading and we saw the same dirty plate laying on a table by the elevator for two days before it was FINALLY picked up. We didn't realize that a complimentary breakfast was not included in the price - most all the ones we have stayed at for that price do. We accidentally left our phone charger and went back to see if it had been turned in. The gentleman that was called to help us by looking in the lost and found never returned (we waited a half an hour!). We feel like we deserved the courtesy of being told that it was/wasn't found! Needless to say, we won't be staying at a Red Lion ever again!

Review 129:The bed was fairly comfortable

Review 130:They were out of soap, wasn't any in the room and they said there was no more, the shower was leaky, the computer system down. Nice staff doing what they could but the management needs to be on top of things

Review 131:We had issues with plumbing that, though they came and "fixed it", was never fixed. Plus the pool was closed for our visit without warning or apology, or even being informed during check-in.

Review 132:Comfortable beds, friendly staff, and easy access to main roads and freeways.

Review 133:We were coordinating a lot of things and the entire hotel staff accommodated our needs and requests. Especially notable was Ray Alexander the catering manager who saved our roses from Ecuador that were shipped early. His salsa is to die for.

Review 134:First two rooms we were assigned to had not even cleaned, third room was ready but toiletries had not been restocked. Housekeeping could use an upgrade.

Review 135:Good location, easy to find, comfortable room

Review 136:Prices at the diner were a bit high. Good quality was good. Staff there could have been friendlier though. My room was lacking an information book about the city and hotel. For a leisure traveler trying to find out what to do and how to get there was a challenge.

Review 137:Great value for my money. Location was very easy to find. Front desk staff was wonderful. All staff was very friendly.
