Reviews for Bamboo Cottages
Review 1:We needed a complete break from the hustle and bustle of city life and Bamboo Cottages gave it to us. Good food, good accommodation, lovely beach and warm sea. What more could you want.
Review 2:Our fault as we did not check the laundry Prices per item before whichare displayed on a small paper in the room.. Anyhow, we were prettysurprised that a Medium Sized Basket with shirts, shorts and some pantswas charged with - wait a minute - 28usd! Just washed and dried, notironed. For twice that much we paid 8usd 3 days before on a boatcruise.. The explanation was that it has all been Done by Hand as thereis no Washing machine due to lacking electricity.. We do Not care aboutsome usd and are absolutely happy with the stay but Come on, That is fartoo much..!
Review 3:Everything Great as described already. The Location is superb, theAtmosphere very quite and relaxed. The breakfast is amazing! Also lunchand Dinner is great, always varying offers. Prices are absolutelyreasonable. Our bungalow was very clean and comfortable. We had 3,5amazing days.
Review 4:As with most small beach resorts, the plumbing is a bit touch and go, but that's island life. Also, as of early Nov 2015, there was some construction nearby, but it proved to not be an issue...Ask for cottage away from construction. Ask to stay to the north (or to the right when facing the sea
Review 5:Further up the coast, further from the airport, further from most of the people. Perfect! Bamboo is a relaxed getaway with friendly staff, shade covered outdoor dinning, a clean beach, and your private cottage. You can kayak to a nearby island and snorkel a bit. The staff will coordinate a motorbike rental if you want to explore the island. The breakfast is great and the coffee unlimited. There is a rotating schedule of family dinners and other nights a free happy hour. We missed the happy hour, but the family dinner was enjoyable to share food and stories with the other guests. You can still choose to dine on your own if you choose. They provide free drinking water, a nice touch since you are far from any store to buy bottled water. It's an eco resort with solar electricity and solar hot water. So expect to sleep under a mosquito net and have a fan. Luckily, it cools off at night so you won't miss the air-con. The bathrooms are open to the sky — pleasant but expect a bit of nature (bugs and tree leaves). Have them pick you up at the airport.
Review 6:Stressful getting there: rented motorbike, phone went dead= no directions, took long mud/dirt rd thanks to locals directions, lonegest ever muddy road in the night, no signage to confirm direction. Back tire went flat (sabotage?..) steessed out. Finally got there, found out there is a mich betted shorter road to take.. Day we left they were puting up more signage..
Review 7:Great food. Solor power. Great helpful staff. Sweet dogs. Great people. Environmentally friendly. Great communal space. Wake up to waves crashing the shore just outside room. Romantic. Safe. Off the grid. Just awesome place. Wish we stayed longer. Defs recommend
Review 8:Be prepared that this resort is eco-friendly so electricity had a few short fallouts. Also the bathroom is outdoor-style which is pretty okay unless it rains and you want to go to the toilet dry. Something to keep in mind while booking. For us it didn't mind since we knew this in advance.
Review 9:The location, the bungalow, the pooltable, the free kayaks and snorkelling gear, the atmosphere, the seven pups darting around. We were afraid that the food was going to be really expensive (according to other reviews) but we were happily surprised. Food was sometimes average, sometimes good, never bad. Not cheap, but certainly not expensive as well. We had a wonderful time here.
Review 10:No too much to do when weather is bad, really remote but if you want peaceful environment this is the place to be
Review 11:Great staff, very laid back place with beautiful bungalows facing the sea, cooking class with Mr Long was awesome, very cute dog puppies, high quality of food and delicious breakfast
Review 12:Everything was perfect. Friendly staff and an amazing view with the ocean just outside your doorstep. The only thing that some ppl may not like is that it is located in the middle of no where, but that could also be a good thing! No wi-fi on the room, but that can also be a pretty good thing :)
Review 13:The location is awesome. The staff are friendly and helpful. Cottages really nice loved the desk overlooking the sea waves crashing down. Made me feel like Ernest Hemingway writing my journal. Outside bathrooms novel but you can shower looking at the moon.
Review 14:The last 2 km to the resort is off road track - relatively easy by day, but more challenging when dark.
Review 15:Simply a fantastic beach resort with sustainability and environment in focus. Fantastic helpful staff at all times. Reasonable prices for food and drinks, despite being far from town. Quite and peacefull.
Review 16:It's difficult for us to write a positive review because we don't want others to discover this gem. The staff were outstanding. The food was excellent. Nothing negative to report.
Review 17:We don't book or recommend places according to food but it's worth a mention. My partner doesn't eat seafood and the very small variety of dishes on the menu made it difficult for him to not repeat dishes on a daily basis. They do have set menus at night but a slightly bigger variety for lunch would be great as you are a good 25min away from town.
Review 18:We loved everything, from the location of Bamboo Cottages, the interaction with guests, welcome drinks, the massages, and free yoga twice a day. Bamboo Cottages is the only eco-resort in Vietnam and we loved living in a place where we knew the resort is consciously minimizing their environmental footprint without skimping on guest comfort. The resort is 35min away from the airport but makes for a very relaxed and beautiful island holiday. We rented motorbikes from the resort staff and drove to the South. We were saddened by the pollution in other areas of the island and felt very happy to return to our beautiful eco-resort. We walked along the beach to other cottages and saw that ours was definitely the best place to have stayed, cottages are right on the beach. We loved the staff and American manager. Also, I loved the fresh seafood buffets, pho and coffee. After traveling through Vietnam for 25days I was dying for a nice cup of coffee that wasn't brewed to kill a small elephant.
Review 19:If you walk on the beach like 300 metres to the right or to the left there are some small fishing houses and there is a big mess around it. Staff is very nice and helpful but very often they don't understand what you ask for. Food was delicious but we would welcome more types of meals.
Review 20:Bamboo cottages are situated at the one of the nicest places of Phu Quoc. Very romantic place! You can really relax there. We had the frontsea cottage and the view was wonderful! Also we like the design of this resort.
Review 21:At the time we stayed, construction of a big resort further up the coast was nearing completion, but still underway. Some boat/engine noise around as a result with construction vehicles. But hopefully this should all be over soon.
Review 22:We booked for 2 nights and liked it so much that we stayed for 4! Staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, with the warm welcome starting at the airport where they picked us up in a comfortable 4x4. They also efficiently booked our onward travel to Cambodia with no markup. The area it is in is great - a significant distance away from the busy beaches of the main town, set on a lovely bay with plenty of kayaking and snorkeling activities (both were available and included). The cabin was very nicely built and comfortable, with a great view out over the beach and sea beyond. Food was very tasty. Great experience all round.
Review 23:The menu is very poor and expensive. They definitely need to add more dishes and lower the prices, as it is in a very remote location you don't have other options for lunch and dinner. We ended up going every day to have lunch to Vung Bau Resort, 800 meters south on the beach, it is a 10 minutes walk and worth it.
Review 24:The location is great, the rooms and restaurant are nicely decorated, the atmosphere is peaceful and nice. We rented a motorbike and went to visit the island until far south, and for what we saw Bamboo Cottage is one of the best and nicest places to stay in the island. We highly recommend it. And nice staff too.
Review 25:That we didn't stay any longer... We will definitely come back!
Review 26:The location was amazing. The beach was basically empty, besides a few fishing boats. The rooms are great, spacious. The outside bathroom is really nice, a special experience. The manager, Charles, went out of his way to make our stay memorable. He was really friendly, helpful and the service was great. It felt more like we were visiting a friend. The vibe of the place is just really relaxed. The food was really good (we are still dreaming about the pumpkin soup).
Review 27:Very remote, takes a long time to get to the dive centres/night market/etc
Review 28:Nature, beach, quiet, very friendly staff, the opportunity to use the kayak, yoga mattresses, snorkeling gear etc. Great food, authentic Vietnamese kitchen
Review 29:The lay back environment was just what we needed after the hussle of multiple tours. A great way to end our Vietnam holiday. Service, communication staff and food was all fantastic. We will end our next Vietnam holiday here when get back to Vietnam
Review 30:The 5 star resort being built close to the cottages means there is a lot of construction machinery and a big cargo boat docks very close to the cottages, which detract from the experience slightly. It is sad. There is also a lot of pollution (of the rubbish variety) on the beach and in the ocean, depending on the tide, but this is a wide spread issue, not specific to Phu Quoc or Vung Bai.
Review 31:Our stay at Bamboo Cottages was wonderful. We were there for 6 days and loved every moment of it. It has a very relaxed feel, with the staff going out of their way to make it feel as if you are at home. The remote location means it's less crowded than other places, which was perfect and the proximity of the cottages to Fingernail Island makes for some fun Kayaking and snorkelling. A little gem of a place.
Review 32:Relaxing place. Very attentive staff.
Review 33:Facilities should be upgraded
Review 34:Nice location, nice staff
Review 35:Site, situation and staff
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:The room was cute, staff super friendly, very relaxing atmosphere.
Review 38:Great secluded place to unwind. Lovely beach access and close to Fingernail Island for snorkeling (kayak over, it's free)
Review 39:It's a wonderfull quiet place to relax, enjoy the sea and taking care of by lovely people.
Review 40:so hot although there is a fan inside room
Review 41:silence,nice beach
Review 42:Awesome location! The atmosphere was great, really a good place to relax. Its such a joy to hear the surf while still half asleep in the morning.
Review 43:this is what Phu Quoc is all about/we expected to have: remote tropical beach holiday-it can still be found here
Review 44:Far away from central marked. Poor menu. They did not clean the room daily.
Review 45:Very nice, gaie and helpful staff. Nice room, good beach.
Review 46:Very Remote Place with a very friendly staff.
Review 47:Too expensive food with pathetically small serving size. I'd say it 3x times expensive than anywhere in Vietnam. Small number of dishes (3-4 main courses ever). Local villagers huts are nearby and sometimes they are drunk singing and yelling in deep night. Also hotel staff doesn't supply power at night (not usual for eco-hotels in other countries) so you suffer and sweat in bed.
Review 48:Distant eco hotel for few guests. Friendly english-speaking personnel.
Review 49:The quality of the food was great but maybe a little more options would be nice.
Review 50:My husband and I are really happy about the 3 nights we spent at Bamboo cottage! From the location of our beach villa to the very helpful and friendly staff, we couldn't ask for more! A very clean and peaceful place.
Review 51:My partner and I were looking for somewhere to relax after travelling across Vietnam to Phu Quoc. We couldn't have chosen a better spot, Bamboo is everything we had hoped for and more. The cottages are positioned in a very remote part of the island, and there really is nothing to do apart from take in the breath taking scenery, enjoy the friendly surroundings of a family run business and, if your feeling up to it, go kayaking across to other parts of the island. We would recommend Bamboo to anyone looking to get away from it all. The food is good but because there is no electricity it is reliant upon what is in the market each day. Not having electricity was wonderful, and the open air bathroom was a welcomed, quirky aspect of the acommodation. If you are staying on Phu Quoc and want to find a truely tranquil spot to find yourself, then stay at Bamboo. Thom and Kiri, UK.
Review 52:- Nothing is near-by so if you have long stay it might be boring to eat at the same restaurant for every meal eventhough the food was ok.
Review 53:- Secluded place, very peaceful and beautiful - Possibility to snorkeling and kayaking - Very nice staff, good athmosphere - Room was basic but clean and spacious - We had no problem to sleep without airconditioning (january)
Review 54:Really nice beach, very clean and beautiful! The crew (vietnamese) are really nice and helpful for everything. The holidays there were just amazing! We can just recommend it
Review 55:Resort's bicycles were in not good condition. But in any case I used them free of charge! :)
Review 56:Perfect place with very freandly stuff. Crystal clear sea with the great amount of crabs and other cea creations! There are untouched beaches and very few people. I love this place and will come back in couple years!
Review 57:First and foremost we have to say we loved the manager- Van. She was such a hard worker and made our stay there wonderful. Everyone else on staff was amazing too. If you like to be out in nature this is the place for you. The beach the resort is located on is absolutely beautiful. We are so glad we stayed here.
Review 58:continually require the activation of wi fi the restaurant had only 4 courses
Review 59:the excellent cuisine of their restaurant the kindness and helpfulness of the staff
Review 60:The receptionist is terrible. She even did't smile to customers whencheck-in. She asked to charge my 3-year-old baby even the babydidn't have any extra benefits, even food. Electricity is big issuein hot season, everyone must sleep at the beach bench, couldn't stayin the room. At night I even could not close the door because it'stoo hot but no electricity for the fan.Food for lunch and dinner is poor. 1 more thing to the receptionist. We asked for a taxi to the airport when check out, she should have called the taxi first before calculating the room charge. But she took 20 minutes to calculate everything and charged us, then called taxi after all, and we had to wait for more 30 minutes for the taxi and we even ran without breath to catch the flight
Review 61:Great beach, wild and clean. Staffs are friendly. Suitable to those whowant to have an isolated trip from the world
Review 62:Excellent staff! Calm place! Tasty food in romantic restorant! (Big size of food) good brakfest! In this place we felt like at home:)
Review 63:Breakfast could be improved
Review 64:Great place, great beach, great people, great atmosphere,
Review 65:the staff were very accomodating
Review 66:It was a great place to escape. The staff are wonderful, the beach frontage is amazing, feel so lucky to have happened across Bamboo Cottages.
