Reviews for Royal Garden Inn Downtown Salt Lake City

Review 1:Wifi could have worked better . Breakfast was ok .

Review 2:Beds were very comfortable . Like the motel type of rooms , no wild about hotel and being up 14 floors .

Review 3:Could of used a microwave or fridge and we couldn't watch the playoffs...,pillows too small. But it was Great for the price... Thank you

Review 4:We were very pleased for the price. Clean and comfortable. Location and employees were good.

Review 5:The bathroom there was a fair amount of mold along tub as well as toilette would not fully flush, the room itself was OK, but I heard all the rooms around me noise level including doors on cars out front shutting that were 3 doors down from mine. I was woken up every 20 minutes as I could hear all rooms very clearly. The exterior that was quite a bit of trash laying around the walkways and really was not clean.

Review 6:I liked that my fiance was pleased with the access of restaurants and liquor store and entertainment was in walking distance, the room was clean and lots of clean towels

Review 7:They say this hotel is downtown Salt Lake City which is absolute nonsense. This hotel is orientated at a very sketchy neigborhood. When my friend and I went outside for our last cigarette around 12am some sketchy men were walking in front of our room, rapping and watching us all the time. They were up to no good. We went inside again and locked the door asap.

Review 8:Our door locks us in n we were supposed to move rooms so they could fix the door n that was 4days ago.. Also the Wi-Fi does not reach our room.

Review 9:I liked the breakfast along with how understanding the staff was about needing to extend check out to obtain the amount for the room...

Review 10:In The morning & early day staff are non understanding & shortwith us & very lazy the night and late after noon the staff arechill and you can talk with them with out them playing on there phonesand acting crazy like the am shift

Review 11:The comfort of the room

Review 12:Couldn't get local. Stations on TV no radio for time housekeeper kept trying to get in the room even it wasn't near check out time and never knocked on door. Couldn't get connected to the WiFi.

Review 13:Bottom floor, breakfast

Review 14:This hotel should be taken off your list of places to stay in Salt Lake City, UT. We asked for coffee everyday, and finally had to go to the front desk. We were serviced only 2 times in 8 nights. The worst experience in my life and I have had, what I thought was worse in California last year. I would stay there in a heart beat. This place was not worth paying for.

Review 15:Half the stuff in the room didn't work like the heater for one, and the coffee maker, the blow dryer, and there was no shampoo in there. Fortunately we did have our own shampoo, and were able to get coffee with the continental breakfast.

Review 16:Staff was great, the continental breakfast was awesome, the location was not bad it was right off the main interstate, located conveniently downtown near lots of shopping, and restaurants

Review 17:The room supplies were very scant. No extra pillows, toilet paper, etc. Also the staff was less than helpful. Their was mold in the shower.

Review 18:It is very handy to the Salt Palace

Review 19:WI FI was very sporadic and constantly dropping and if you had planned to work in your room (as I did)....it is not going to happen. Mentioned it to the clerk who seemed surprised. But all the other co-workers (6) from my company said the same thing and we had rooms in different buildings.

Review 20:Clean bathroom, mattress condition excellent, bedding good. No complaints here but...

Review 21:Rooms were a bit run down. The hotel could use a renovation to modernize it. But this is likely why the hotel is inexpensive to stay in.

Review 22:Good service and good price.

Review 23:None except to suggest a wider variety of diets (African diet like rice, potato chips) to the menu list. Also the television programme should include popular spots from other parts of the world like football regularly.

Review 24:Location, accessibility, services including the complimentary services (shuttle service, breakfast) .

Review 25:We went to have breakfast and there were bums that were coming in to eat there because it is not supervised at all. It was so messy and dirty I couldn't even eat. Someone needs to watch the area so random people don't walk in.

Review 26:Shuttle service was horrible. Had set up an airport shuttle that arrived almost 40 min late to pick me up. In addition very few places in walking distance.

Review 27:Hotel is short distance from airport

Review 28:The property itself was dirty the rooms are small dank and musty. the bed was very uncomfortable. The toilet ran water constantly. No wifi,

Review 29:The proximity of the hotel to our scheduled event was very convenient.

Review 30:The door to the hallway is broken and left open all the time and made me feel less safe. The stairway to the 2nd floor is very dirty and dark. The breakfast area also felt dirty. For example the cup holding the coffee stir sticks was dirty.

Review 31:The location is great, the bed sheets seemed clean and the mattress/pillows were comfortable. The staff was nice.

Review 32:Toilet did not flush everything. Sink drainage was not good and quiet except Saturday night loud music and party. Someone could have told the people to turn down the BOOM BOOM. It was SO LOUD.

Review 33:Staff was great. Location and price was very good. Beds were comfortable.

Review 34:The staff seemed ill trained on what information to give guests on arrival. They gave me the password for the WiFi! The vending machines in the lobby had a variety of products but no prices. I had to ask about shuttle service for getting to the airport. Had to reserve a seat! There was no information in the room on how to contact the front desk, where one could go for a meal, where the nearest gas stations were, if there was a hospital emergency room close by. There was a badly photocopied map that was given to me on arrival. Could not always make out the names of the nearby streets. The lamps in the room itself were low wattage, especially the ones by the bed. Made reading a bit stressfull. The curtains(blackout ones) were full of stains. Back to the lobby; the Ivy plant from outside had penetrated at least 3 inches of wall close to a lobby window. Was already starting to look for something inside to adhere to. Having a plant inside the lobby might brighten it up. I doubt this ivy was part of the 'plan'.

Review 35:Very little. Made it very plain. I doubt they would care to take me back even should I change my mind and want to.

Review 36:Cleanliness - the toilets in the lobby area were not maintained. Breakfast - absolutely awful. Nothing fresh at all, not even a piece of fruit. Furnishings and fittings - in need of upgrade.

Review 37:Staff - absolutely charming and helpful. Position - perfect. Cleanliness - the room was clean. The bedding was fresh and clean and comfortable.

Review 38:When we arrived. No ice bucket or hangers in room. Lamp by arm chair had no turn on knob. It's cord had knots in it. The bulb socket was loose. Wall lamp on bathroom side had no bulb and no place to plug in. Maintenance man fixed all. Poor wifi first night. No wifi second night. When I asked to see someone in charge auditor said he should be in about nine. We needed to be on road by 8. I left note regarding above for him. She doubted he eould reply. Too busy. I can see why. Listing them is a disgrace to booking. We have been traveling since sept 6. Booked many thru.

Review 39:Location price

Review 40:Mattress made so much noise, headboard was not attached and flopped forward every time you moved. Air conditioner was so loud you couldn't hear tv but the tv had only 1 network. So much interference on tv you could hardly watch it (older tv). Called maintenance but couldn't really understand what he was telling us.

Review 41:Location.

Review 42:Entrance to building needed power washing it was dirty. Inside chair & ottoman spotted meeded cleaning.

Review 43:New carpet, good bed, bathroom clean lots of hot water. Good parking . Lobby nice & inviting. Good value for money. Hotels nearby much more expensive.

Review 44:Breakfast boring with no variety and entrance and room lobby not very clean.

Review 45:Location, front person Aaron was friendly and helpful and good housekeepers.

Review 46:This hotel is terrible and shouldn't even be up and running. The person that was working was very nice and completely great about giving us a refund. The hotel is dirty and overall scary. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Not worth the money! I walked into the room and walked back out because it was so bad!

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:The room was really really unclean. Stains on the walls, the bathroom sink was really gross (hair and dirt and all kinds of stuff that evidenced that the place wasn't cleaned beforehand - or if it was, it was cleaned only in the most passing of fashions). This room also charged a $20 deposit for the night that got refunded the next day, which is kind of lame.

Review 49:The beds were decent, the TV was a decent size (albeit standard def), and the location is solid.

Review 50:Housekeeping did not clean my room at all during my 5-day stay--despite me calling to request they vacuum the floor and the spiderwebsbehind the ac, where I killed 2 large spiders. After a shower, the tubtook over an hour to drain, and the closet door only opened 8 inches. One of the queen beds was broken on one side and uncomfortable tosleep on. Someone opened my door one morning, realized he was in thewrong room and left immediately. When I asked the front desk to changethe keys, they seemed unconcerned by it. Wifi connectivity wasinconsistent in my room.

Review 51:The room was relatively inexpensive per night, for the location andevents in town during those dates. The evening staff at the front deskwere very friendly.

Review 52:On a 5 night stay, 2 days I had no housekeeping at all. No clean towels, bed unmade, no new coffee and cream. I reported to staff twice and also asked General Manager to call me, but no one called and no housekeeping or supplies for two days. Very poor responses.

Review 53:Room had been renovated and was like new. Clean and tidy. Front Desk Manager, Juanita, gave me 1 nights complimentary due to lack of housekeeping service and GM not calling me when I left message.

Review 54:All 3 ice machine was broken. For breakfast the host was very rude about me wanting to cater up the food myself and bring it back to my room for my two young children.

Review 55:Felt like checking into youth offender centre; staff didn't speak to me like a person...it was only 8pm- not late enough to be so off handed. Paper peeling off walls in room, power sockets not mounted correctly, and not readily accessible for my own use and sharp debri laying on top of bed...bets thing was the sleep which was all mine

Review 56:I got to sleep, there was coffee

Review 57:The room was a bit musty and the walls are super thin. I could hear the people next door speaking in normal voices.

Review 58:The rooms had new, well cared for furnishings. It is an old building but well cared for.

Review 59:Room was disgusting! Stains on the chair, bed, and floor. Mirrors were broken and hand fingerprints all over them. The shower was broken and did not shut off, so it ran all the time.

Review 60:Staff was friendly

Review 61:Their continental breakfast was well-intentioned, but the breakfast bar was not clean at all, and neither was the dining room. Pretty gross.

Review 62:The hotel was old, but the room was very clean and nice, and the bed was very comfortable. It was a good place to crash for the weekend while we were at SLCC (very convenient), but not somewhere I would like to stay for an extended time.

Review 63:No Wifi, No Pool, No Hot Tub, Dirty Rooms, Torn Blankets, Bugs andStains everywhere, unfriendly staff, unkept grounds, trash everywhere.Untrustworthy staff etc etc, 0/10 do not stay here

Review 64:Wifi was not always available. Curtains were missing hooks so could not be closed properly. Small things were annoying. Told reception but nothing was done.

Review 65:Closeness to town, walking distance.

Review 66:The continental breakfast was sub Par. Looks like they are in the middleof a remodel or ownership change. I will give them a pass. But they doneed to work on their breakfast.

Review 67:Rooms were comfortable quiet and clean. That's what I look forwhen I book a hotel room. When we take a vacation we spend very littletime in the hotel room only to sleep. All we want is a cleancomfortable room.

Review 68:The light in the bathroom did not work at 11:30 at night so we used to light from the sink area to illuminate the toilet area who's door we had to leave open and the plugs did not work ! Anything we plugged in fell out and could not turn one light off near the bed so we had to unplug it !! My partner burned her hand trying to dry her hair as in order to do so she had to hold the plug in the socket and well reaching for the hairdryer with her other hand burned it !! I would never recommend this hotel and some of the front office desk people were not friendly or helpful at all !! We were very disappointed and will not go back + and I will share with people what our experience wise like !!thank you

Review 69:Pretty much nothing the pool looked nice from a distance we left the next morning never to return we were to stay five nights + paid for five!!

Review 70:Breakfast is too simple and not delicious

Review 71:Not far from the downtown of Salt Lake City. Good price for a short stay, room is clean and staff is quite friendly. A small swimming pool is open during summer. Quiet place. There's a very good restaurant serving BBQ named R&R BBQ, which is very delicious

Review 72:Outlets were exposed without a cover, stains on the wall and carpet, very dusty vents, there were no dust ruffles covering the filthy box springs, and the AC was VERY loud.

Review 73:The location was awesome! Our convention was at the Salt Palace and it was just a short walk from our hotel.

Review 74:The room was supposed to include a fridge and microwave, which was notthere. They said they could add them but it would be an additional$20/night. The closet mirror was cracked, bed side light fixture washanging off the wall and unplugged. The water in the shower/tubwould not stop running. If you tried to turn off completely you wouldneed a wrench to turn it back on. T.v was from the '90's and didnot include cable. They said the pool was open but it remained coveredthe whole time. The breakfast did not even offer fruit. Just stalebiscuits w/ vomit like gravy, bread/bagels, cereal, and wafflesw/ peaches from a can. Even the coffee was disgusting, the guage inthe front showed it was full but was really empty. This shows me howoften it has been cleaned... Never! ***I would not recommend this hotelto anyone. Negative stars review!***

Review 75:That the door locked and the ac worked

Review 76:The room was dirty (someone else's food trash under the bed, a ball of hair on the floor, etc). Though WiFi is listed as an amenity, it was not accessible in our room which made for a less than perfect business trip. Breakfast was a joke with zero protein so we skipped that.

Review 77:This is exactly what I'd expect for the price. The water pressure was great.

Review 78:the entire place was sadly in bad repair... outside carpeting worn out, furniture was chipped, broken, stained, torn, curtains had holes in them, sink stained, ( paint?), bathroom fan really loud and couldn't turn off, carpet questionable, polyester quilts scratchy, wifi didn't work well, bed was weirdly lumpy, and pillows lumpy and wierd, maids quite unfriendly, ice machine broken, no fridge in room, cars parked right in front of my window turning their lights on and off, guests upstairs incredible LOUD just walking around in the room, I would never recommend this place to anyone ever. sorry. it needs a serious upgrade in all respects. even my room key did not work. had to enter it about 15 times to get green. very very sad. so sorry,

Review 79:the sheets and towels were clean and ONE person at the desk was very friendly and helpful

Review 80:We awoke to a mouse in our room. Thankfully they had a spare room. But, it made it ever harder to sleep. The first room was a dump - a 1/4 roll of toilet paper, the staff making us go to the lobby at 11pm to get more, only one plug worked, the toilet seat was broken, all the linens had burn holes in them, hot breakfast was a joke - the same biscuits and gravy everyday, waffles, toast, cereal, plus they closed early one day and we missed out on something. There are a lot of homeless sitting there too. One sat right outside our door on the stairs one night.

Review 81:It was cheap...and they had a spare room that we switched to in the middle of the night which was better than our first.

Review 82:One of our 2 beds was nothing but fabric over springs, impossible to sleep on. Had to call the front desk for small things like a plug for the tub, and the entire facility looks run down and poorly maintained.

Review 83:The staff were friendly, and the location was a decent walk to the Salt Palace.

Review 84:Outside grounds are horrible. My room had mold and mildew on the bathroom ceiling. I asked for it to be cleaned for 2 days and it didn't get done. The maintenance man wanted to move me to another room so he could paint over the mold. I refused to allow that to happen. Walls and tile falling apart in bathroom due to water from the shower. Bathroom door will not shut properly due to water and wood rot. Paint peeling in the bathroom. Dresser drawers; unable to open properly or missing drawers in other rooms. Housekeeping didn't make up one my beds in my room for 2 days. If you walk on the carpet in white socks they will be black. I am allergic to mold and came home sick. My keys didn't work at the end of each day and had to be redone.

Review 85:The only thing I liked is the management gave me a 2 day credit of the 4 days I stayed at this property.

Review 86:The hotel is absolutely awful. The sheet were dirty, the entire room were filthy. The breakfast area were disgusting and sticky and at the end decided to change hotel

Review 87:We had three room on first floor, they were stink and dirty on floor, bath was plug up, coffee maker was broken in two of three rooms, when we ask to change a good one, was said: we don't have staff, please come to lobby buy coffee. With two days stay, no body come to clean room and corridor.

Review 88:Large bed, free bus to airpot.

Review 89:Free breakfast was minimal and loaded with Carbs. They need to have more variety. Also , Wifi kept going out on us, very frustrating.

Review 90:The cleaning staff were excellent in the rooms but the breakfast hall was poor.

Review 91:The facility is shabby - in serious need of upgrading. The stairway was filthy. The staff, except for the manager who refunded my money, was indifferent. They advertise having free WiFi in the rooms and I was never able to get on the internet.

Review 92:I liked the fact that they refunded my money for the night I stayed there.

Review 93:Outdated hotel and interior. Staff seemed to be bored.

Review 94:The location of the hotel is excellent; easy to walk pretty much everything downtown SLC.Plenty of free parking spots available; very easy to be reached by car.

Review 95:Our original room was supposed to be non-smoking, and it reeked of cigarette smoke. The dresser was all banged up, scratched, curtains frayed, shower moldy. We requested to be moved and they were very accommodating. The second room was much nicer, definitely non smoking. There is no fridge in the rooms, there is only one ice machine for the large complex, so if it doesn't happen to be in the building you are in, you have a bit of a trek for ice. Also, we were overcharged for rooms, but since I failed to bring a copy of my reservation, I couldn't prove it. I am now in the process of having to obtain a refund. The breakfast was probably ok for most people -- toast, waffles, biscuits & gravy. A lot of carbs, nothing really healthy. WiFi was in and out and slow.

Review 96:Location proximity to convention center

Review 97:My non-smoking room smelled like smoke and made my allergies flare up. There was a holes in the wall. There shower water temperature wasn't controllable.

Review 98:It was downtown right next to the light rail and many things to do.

Review 99:The property looked run down, garbage cans overflowing etc. Glad in the end i stayed a few blocks away at the Courtyard by Marriot, even though it was twice the price.

Review 100:Nothing, i booked 4 nights 6 months in advance but my plans changed. I rang and told them i wouldn't make it on the 1st night but stressed that i would be there for the other 3 nights. I did not have a problem paying for all 4 nights as long as i had a room. When i arrived to checkin i was told i wasnt in the system and my reservation must have been cancelled. If course there was no longer any rooms available!

Review 101:The plumbing in the bathroom needs to be fixed. The AC unit needs to be upgraded, we had asked for 4 extras pillows to be in the room on arrival and they didn't put any extras in the room.

Review 102:We liked the location.

Review 103:It was much better than some reviews described. The room was in good condition and clean and comfortable. The pool was nice and staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 104:We had a furry friend visit us every morning and we called it in. He was still there. The matenance guy was not nice to us at all when we asked for help.

Review 105:I understand you are very understaff but Moe and Jennifer really helped boost the experience up!

Review 106:Took 15-20min to get water warm enough to shower, room poorly cleaned, spider on bathroom floor, Internet hard to get signed into, password page doesn't generate took 30min hunting to get it activated on my laptop. Loud guests playing and yelling in the parking lot past 11pm startled me awake.

Review 107:Location to my event, room close to pool and breakfast was very handy good quality, reasonable cost, kids loved the pool.

Review 108:Old fashion conference hotel, not perfectly maintained and cleaned (in common areas) but still offering good comfort and facilities. Breakfast ok but crowded.

Review 109:Walking distance from downtown, internal free parking, big rooms, good beds and baths, old but everything was working. I managed to get a rate lower than a country motel therefore i was quite happy and available to forgive the few deficiencies.

Review 110:It's pretty run down but she's and towels were clean....in y first room the air conditioner was insanely loud, it was smelly and then there was a mouse chewing though my doritos pack...it had kept me up most of the second night ,couldn't figure what's that noise in the dark... Btw breakfast is for 6 to 9 pm...not a great selection, just very basic

Review 111:Location is easy to reach with airport train plus 5 min walk...also max 10 min was to center..after being in trouble in your room they easily switched me to another one....they let me stay two hours over checkout time in my room...so I could take a shower before heading to the airport. ...

Review 112:The air-conditioning did not work, then the staff fixed it. The air did get cool and kept cooling, had to shut off the thermostat. The door between the adjoining room was broken, we had to move the dresser in front the the door for security and place a chair in front of the entry door. I asked for another room but was told there were none available, yet I watched several parties arrive after us and check in. This place is very scary, could not wait to get out of there. Also had some bug bites! YUCK.

Review 113:My room wasn't clean and I called front office and they told me they didn't have enough maids. I told her that's not my problem.

Review 114:Bathroom was clean.and the room looks good when we went in the first day.

Review 115:Same breakfast daily with uninterested cooks. Food and coffee often low and no undoing clean-up of breakfast area. Breakfast was the real letdown.

Review 116:Locatio, very easy to get downtown and the price was very reasonable

Review 117:There was some weird black van parked right outside my window with a 360 camera on its roof. That plus a strange camper parked in the lawn just added an extra creepy vibe to the place.

Review 118:The location was convenient enough to the Salt Palace convention center.

Review 119:This is the single worst "hotel" I have ever stayed in that isn't in a third world country. Royal Garden should be torn down immediately, it's an absolute disgrace, filthy and uncomfortable with worthless wifi that didn't work at all.

Review 120:Nothing.

Review 121:We showed up at check-in time only to be told that our room was not yet ready. The lady at the desk was very flustered and did not seem to know what to do with us. She told us we should leave and come back in half an hour to check into our room. We came back half an hour later, and again she said our room wasn't ready. When the housekeeper came in 5 minutes later, she told her that actually our room was ready and we could check in. After we checked in, we headed to our room. The first thing I noticed was that the furniture was stained and the room reeked of smoke. Since we had asked for a non-smoking room, this was upsetting. On further inspection, we discovered dead bugs on the walls, peeling wallpaper, broken glass, a TV that didn't work, and a ripped lampshade. For $135 a night?! We felt very ripped off. The only good that came from our stay was a phone call we made to the front desk a couple hours later asking what they could do for us in the cancellation of our reservation. A man named Moe gave us a full refund and apologized profusely for our unhappiness and uncomfortableness, stating a lack of housecleaning employees. We ended up going to the Plaza Salt Lake and having a very lovely weekend.

Review 122:The breakfast area was dark and gloomy, the furnishings looked very old and the carpet needed a good clean! Everything felt a little neglected which add you question how clean everything was

Review 123:The stains on the carpet in my room, the massive bug that ran across my room, the wifi didn't work, the exterior of the building and flooring was in bad shape, the tube TV in the room was fuzzy and the air conditioner was loud!!!

Review 124:This was the last room I could find in Salt Lake City!

Review 125:Room was very poorly maintained. Carpet very badly stained wallpaper peeling from walls. Sheets and towels in great need of fabric softener. No maid service on morning of second day. Never given Wi-Fi password.

Review 126:The hotel was relatively clean, but is very run-down. Broken fixtures, leaking water faucets, broken furniture on the small deck. Breakfast was terrible. A constant daily turnover of tour buses may explain some of this. It's a great way to make money without anyone complaining about the appearance.

Review 127:The pool. It was kept clean, which was nice. The rail to get into the pool was broken--did not lend confidence to taking young children into it.

Review 128:Filthy and unkept. The furniture was falling apart and was nasty. The grounds were in desperate need of trash removal and care. The the bathroom ceiling had mold all over and the bathroom was in need of repairs. The smell of cigarettes permeated the air. The party across the parking lot was loud and unruly into the early morning hours. Filthy, dirty, and nasty are too mild of a description.

Review 129:Old architecture is beautiful. Potential for a beautiful facility. Such a shame the owners do not have an appreciation for this property.

Review 130:There isn't anything I didn't like.

Review 131:For the very low rate, it was very comfortable and the amenities excellent. The swimming pool was especially nice!

Review 132:The breakfast area and equipment did not appear to be cleaned efficiently. We ate most of our breakfasts other places.

Review 133:The room was A handicapped room that was set up to fit our needs perfectly.

Review 134:Staff tried to come into our room at 7am without knocking (we were asleep). Lobby really dirty, especially lobby bathroom. Fine if it had been $25, but was $90.

Review 135:The front desk receptionist on our way out did not bother to give us back our deposit money. I had forgotten about it and had to drive back to get my $100 back from her. It should be a check out protocol to check in their system for any outstanding or owing money before saying goodbye to their guests. the first room we were offered smelled very strongly like cigarette smoke, but we were given another room which was much better.

Review 136:Our room was quite large, and clean. generous breakfast was provided. good price.
