Reviews for Stonewall Jackson Hotel

Review 1:Hotel is perfectly located in Staunton. The desk staff was very helpful and pleasant. The buffet breakfast was very good. The bed was the most comfortable I have slept on in years.

Review 2:Surprisingly there was what appeared to be mold on the shower liner

Review 3:Lovely historic facility, coffee in room. Easy parking, nice bar, very nice staff.

Review 4:Room was dark and dingy-looking. No magnifying mirror in bathroom. Wifi was was either non-functional so slow that every page load timed-out. Upon checking out we were told, "yes we have been upgrading our system. It should be really good again...tomorrow". There is plenty of low cost or free parking in Staunton, next time we will stay at one of the highway motels for half the price and comp. breakfast plus functioning wifi.

Review 5:Location was ideal for walking around Staunton. Food and servers were excellent in the breakfast cafe, although breakfast will add another $12+/pp to your bill.

Review 6:Staunton was a great town to be in, and the Blackfriars Playhouse was a blast. The Stonewall Jackson had great parking and is positioned in town, which made an afternoon of walking the town very enjoyable.

Review 7:The "free wifi" was completely useless. I could not load the simplest page either from my email or any other sight. I even tried leaving my room and going the lobby, but it was just as bad, if not worse, there.

Review 8:Nothing

Review 9:It was perfect!! We had the best time. The hotel was in great condition, service was great and the location incredible. Staunton is a sweet townand we had the time of our lives.

Review 10:it would have been very nice to be abler to get dinner after the show - not room service after the show ended

Review 11:right next to Blackfrairs theater great show fun. lovely part of town to explore too just what we were looking for - not too pretentious just right.

Review 12:The bed was not firm enough. I did not sleep well.

Review 13:Room layout was good and lobby was conducive to family gatherings. Location was perfect for all the things we wanted to do.

Review 14:Wifi signal was weak....but that was probably my carrier rather than the hotel.

Review 15:It was what every hotel should be. Making you feel right at home but better.

Review 16:Great location right next to Mary Baldwin College. The room was very nice and comfortable. We slept as if though we were at home in our beds. Hope to stay again in May when we return for the Graduation Ceremony at Mary Baldwin College. Thanks for a GREAT STAY!!

Review 17:I had difficulties getting wifi and was not able to access my emails during my stay.

Review 18:The closeness to the theater and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful. the room and the bed were comfortable.

Review 19:No robes available for the swimming pool. More than one coffee filter would have been nice.

Review 20:Despite location it was very quiet. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Staff were very helpful and professional.

Review 21:My coffee maker didn't work in the room. The wi-fi went out for about an hour in the morning. The room was kind of small, but hey it had a king sized bed in it. When the website asks if you would like a room towards the top of the building, it doesn't mention if you want it facing a brick wall in the alley or the nice view of the city and street. We had the alley... nice alley though.

Review 22:Great Location Great Bed Great room service

Review 23:A very nice, historic hotel with easy access to downtown. The Room was small but very comforable. The staff was excellent. The parking garage was easily accessed.

Review 24:I learned when I checked in that Booking.com booked me twice when I made the reservation -- for two rooms instead of one. Luckily, the hotel cancelled with no penalty.

Review 25:Nice hotel walkable to everything in the downtown historic district. The indoor pool and hot tub are great.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:Firstly the building itself .This Victorian charmer has been lovingly updated. The breakfasts were fantastic. The rooms comfortable and spotless and right in the middle of Staunton!

Review 28:Rooms in the new wing are comfortable but not spacious. Staff do their job well but could make greater effort to be friendly. This hotel is not service minded to the degree that Hilton & Holiday Inn are.

Review 29:We love the central location, within easy walking distance to most of the town. Being next door to the Blackfriars Playhouse makes it easy to fit in an evening of Shakespeare which is definitely to be recommended. The players/minstrels do a great job! The low cost garage parking option is convenient.

Review 30:Parking and breakfast were not included in price. had to ride one set of elevators to lobby then switch to go to room. Rooms exhaust fan did not work. After the first person showered everything was covered in steam and hard to continue getting ready. Did let management know for future guests of room 218...

Review 31:It was nicely decorated and loved the historic feel. Walking distance to nice restaurants and taverns. Loved the appetizers and pizza at the Bistro.

Review 32:Mattresses and pillows did not have protective covers under linen. With recent concerns nationally for bedbugs it would be good practice to use protective covers that are changed and sanitized after each stay. It is more cost productive to purchase protective covers than mattresses and pillows.

Review 33:This hotel is historically beautiful. The staff was friendly and very helpful and the guestroom was very clean and comfortable.

Review 34:The beautiful lobby and dining room and nice large bedroom. Courteous and very helpful staff. Loved being a part of history, comfortably! We will definitely come back again.....

Review 35:The hotel is tired very much needing updating. Room furniture Is worn? Feeling is just that of a formerly grand hotel which time has passed by.

Review 36:Friendly,accommodating,clean. Shakespeare Theater next store offerings are excellent.Mill Restaurant across the street is quite good. Sit at the bar and talk to everyone in this very friendly place.

Review 37:Incorrect type of accommodations Poor 'restaurant' staff Poor 'dinner' restaurant, really a bar Hairdryer hidden in closet in both rooms we reserved Very large, covered piece of equipment right in front of tables/chairs for watching children in pool...could not see the entire pool Very loud quests on same floor, slamming doors, speaker phones on while walking/talking in hallway at 2:30 in the morning

Review 38:Cleanliness Breakfast variety

Review 39:the guy at the desk was weird and somewhat aloof. first thing he told me when i said we have a reservation was that we were booked for a different night—he was wrong. i checked my email confirmation and the night i had booked was correct. the bed was way too soft. as i checked out the next morning the woman at the desk said the parking was good until 5, with no extra pay. the parking attendant said no, it's good only until you check out. but she was gracious enough to not charge me extra. however, we would stay there again. but some people need to get their stuff together.

Review 40:the architecture, layout, view, cleanliness, ambiance, quietness

Review 41:The upholstered furniture was a bit shabby. Nothing going on past about 10 PM. It would have been nice if the bar were open for an after Shakespeare drink.

Review 42:Perfect location to spend the night and watch a play.

Review 43:I wish I had help getting my luggage in when I pulled up. There was no bellhop and I had to lug my numerous bags myself. However, the front desk allowed me to leave my car up front while I took my things upstairs before driving around to park in the garage. Though the room was certainly clean overall, it smelled like scouring powder each time I walked in. Also, I noticed the floor lamp was dusty - not the end of the world but noticeable when you're laying in bed.

Review 44:I liked the look of the hotel overall including the lobby and felt comfortable checking in. The staff; front desk, house keeping and particularly 24 Market (breakfast) were very, very pleasant. The hotel and my room were clean and I wasn't scared to touch things (which has been an issue at other hotels). The location was in close proximity to everywhere I needed to get to during my visit. It was a comfortable stay and I didn't have to call for anything because all the expected supplies were available in my room. I hardly ever turn on the TV but for once was able to relax and enjoy a couple of shows. I was graciously granted late check out when I requested it. Breakfast was so yummy and filling, I didn't have lunch and ate dinner at 9:00pm! (I did have a huge serving of gelato around 6:00pm). They offered a wide variety; several items in the hot station, a pastry station, a fresh fruit station - I was very pleased. Parking is fairly convenient in an adjoining garage at $6 per night. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely stay here and have already recommended it to someone.

Review 45:Needed some aesthetics in the pool area, big plants, pictures, etc....felt like a dungeon of sorts.

Review 46:Very comfortable beds Cheap convenient parking Lobby is beautiful

Review 47:$6 a night to park in the city car park. It isn't really a lot but it's the same rate as you'd pay if you weren't at the hotel. A slight discount would be nice.

Review 48:Right in the centre of Downtown which has a great selection of restaurants & bars. Equally, a good base for discovering the surrounding area and beyond with easy access to the main Interstates. Has a nice hotel bar & Michael, the bartender is very knowledgeable & friendly. We didn't try the food at the hotel but it sure did look and smell good.

Review 49:Parking garage requires room key access in and out, a separate elevator, and costs $6 a day.

Review 50:Location was convenient. Hotel rooms were very quiet. Someone next door was playing a violin and I could only hear it from the hall, not in our room.

Review 51:small rooms and the temperature kept fluctuating

Review 52:Location

Review 53:the cleanliness of the facility and hoe helpful the staff was with getting me internet connection.

Review 54:i would like a small refrigerator in the room for things we travel with

Review 55:Everything, the staff, the ambience, the room, the bed, and the location

Review 56:Great location, wonderful staff

Review 57:No writing desk in the room.

Review 58:A good hotel in the heart of Staunton. The room and service was very good. Location could not have been better,

Review 59:Overall very good--good value sand a fun/nice place to stay. Would want to stay there again.[

Review 60:Exceeded expectations. Great location for exploring Staunton and local Virginia area.

Review 61:Historical atmosphere. Love the name of the hotel.

Review 62:Nice location, staff and historic.

Review 63:Unique and classy place close to the mountains and one of the best stop overs on the I-81 corridor!

Review 64:No breakfast!

Review 65:The bed was very comfy. The staff was really nice! We really enjoyed walking around the town and dining at the nearby Mill restaurant.

Review 66:tried dry-clean but my silk top was shrunken and my trousers ware wrinkled.

Review 67:friendly staff, nice facility

Review 68:Location is great, very comfortable bed

Review 69:quaint

Review 70:Whole experience was great. We love the location.

Review 71:Room small but comfortable

Review 72:Wonderful staff and cafe. Beautifully remodeled older property

Review 73:No bad experience. The breakfast, for the price, could've been better.

Review 74:Location; comfortable rooms

Review 75:Bathroom tub was very slippery.

Review 76:Just about everything.

Review 77:Lack of information about parking fees. Staff's lack of knowledge about when parking was free.

Review 78:Proximity to the American Shakespeare center.

Review 79:Pool is deep! Watch your kids!

Review 80:Very big pool!

Review 81:Great little town close to wineries and breweries

Review 82:nothing comes to mind

Review 83:great location in a quaint, picturesque town. warm friendly staff. great breakfast buffet.

Review 84:Price

Review 85:This is the best value in Staunton. The staff and restaurant are both excellent.

Review 86:Location downtown. Walking distance to sites.

Review 87:very cold and depressing hotel environment. Reminded me of the hotel from the Shining.

Review 88:location

Review 89:None

Review 90:Hotel very clean and room was spacious. Pool and Gym facilities very good. Staff helpful. Location in town was excellent

Review 91:Thoroughly updated classic hotel.

Review 92:No help with luggage or parking.

Review 93:Beautiful, old hotel with a friendly staff

Review 94:The coffee

Review 95:Dinning was very limited and not open for dinner.

Review 96:Great location to points of interest.

Review 97:A soft, spongy mattress.

Review 98:Location, bar, breakfast, Caesar salad, quiet

Review 99:Michael, running the bar/informal restaurant, was excellent: friendly and efficient.

Review 100:We only stayed for a night as we were passing through on and 800 mile road trip. Our quick visit was pleasant and would stay again.

Review 101:Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food and clean rooms with very comfortable beds.

Review 102:Room was very nice but ridiculously over priced at 193.00 per night. My Hotel Roanoke stay in January of th his year was $120.00 per night. Similar old hotel.

Review 103:Lovely facility, nice people.

Review 104:Breakfast buffet cold, bad service - we had to get up several times to ask for coffee, juice, a separate food order never arrived and waiter was not pleasant. For $36.00 plus we were very, very disappointed. Customer Service never told us the one-way street and the hill the hotel set on so when we arrived we had to go around several blocks and entrance areas to get to front door. A "heads up" would have been nice.

Review 105:Paper cups for coffee in room - small coffee maker. Although we paid extra for a rollaway bed - indicating there were more than two people in the room we were not given extra towels - cups etc

Review 106:It was all wonderful.

Review 107:Pool and spa. We used it each night of our stay. The beds were soooo comfortable. Staff was great. We had a late dinner the bar and had your buffet breakfast-- Fantastic! We were offered a reduced rate to stay another night which we took advantage of,since we live in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. That was a lovely surprise! Thank you for making our stay a wonderful experience.

Review 108:Our room was by the ice machine. It kept making ice several times during the night which woke me up every time. I did not sleep well. When I mentioned it at checkout they simply stated if we stayed again they would note it to not put us near it again.

Review 109:Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Great location. Pretty hotel. Nice little bar

Review 110:I wanted more info

Review 111:The pool

Review 112:History, location, helpful staff, cleanliness, restaurant within hotel. I will recommend and come back.

Review 113:Beautifull and stylish historic hotel in excellent condition. Cheap parking on site.

Review 114:we would have preferred a restaurant that did nit have a buffet breakfast

Review 115:Clean and comfortable in a great location. Very beautiful and a nice indoor pool!

Review 116:The cooked breakfast was dreadful----- for me in edible--- for a so called quality hotel I was amazed!

Review 117:Lacking in atmosphere

Review 118:Love the options for breakfast.
