Reviews for Afrique Boutique Ruimsig

Review 1:There was a hail storm on the second day, and there were major roof leaks. the staff tried their best to clean up, but there was an element of not telling the truth about why there were such leaks. It seemed like to us like it was not the first time this had happened, going by the evidence of prior water damage. Management must attend to competent repairs that are obviously needed. The last night dinner was a disaster; we felt that our meal had been brought in from some Indian restaurant (Tandori Chicken)! It was dry and we ended up not having it; they had to hurriedly prepare some other chicken. It was clear the chef was off and for them the alternative was to buy the food and heat it up for us. On this day we should have eaten out. The problem is that they tried to hide the fact that they had brought in the meal. To their credit, they did not charge us for the botched up dinner. Not impressed at all.

Review 2:Great surroundings and pleasant staff. We loved our executive room. The chef was great and prepared a wonderful cake for my wife's birthday; everyone in our group loved it!

Review 3:There was a function the same night I slept over, it was VERY VERY noisy!! Couldn't sleep ... After the function the neighbors got just as Noisy ....?? had to drive to Durban the next day

Review 4:Rooms very neat, staff very friendly, food excellent!!

Review 5:They need to install an extractor fan because the small of food permeates into the rooms.

Review 6:A gracious welcome. A small boutique hotel. They make you feel special, and your surrounded by peace.

Review 7:The staff was very friendly and custom service was excellent. I loved the look and feel of the hotel. Absolutely clean and well maintained. My husband and I truly had a fantastic time, away from a bustling noisy houshold full of kids...heaven on earth.

Review 8:There wasn't one thing we didn't like. Everything was perfect.

Review 9:Without doubt, this was the best small hotel we have ever stayed in. From the moment we were greeted we knew we were in for a fabulous experience. The food was superb, the rooms were better than excellent. The gardens were immaculate. The staff were so attentive without being too obvious, a perfect blend. A special mention about the original and thought provoking artwork that was everywhere in the hotel. Utterly splendid

Review 10:They let me stay a couple of hours after we checked out enjoying the garden. And they also went the extra mile the day after when I phoned them to say I left my phone in the hotel, they started a thorough check. Luckily I found my phone in the car and called then to thank them for such nice gesture.

Review 11:The staff treated me strangely, they were not very friendly. I felt judged and uncomfortable for I had chosen to stay the night alone.

Review 12:The room was amazing! So big and comfortable!

Review 13:The excellent staff hospitality is what turned an ordinary weekend into a fantastic one. Staff went out of their way to accommodate our requests - welcoming, friendly and aiming to please their guests. Room was spacious and peaceful

Review 14:The Staff is super friendly, kind & welcoming. The rooms are spacious with stylish furniture and super size beds Simply a stunning place to stay! I will keep on going back and have already booked a return trip

Review 15:Unfortunately there was a rowdy group of guests, but I suppose it was simply one of those things!

Review 16:The room was magnificent. The staff and management were friendly and accommodating. The setting was breathtaking and the food was exquisite!

Review 17:Food not that great- ive seen better omlets. Children's play area not there although mentioned on booking.com website.

Review 18:Comfortable nd classy. Great staff.

Review 19:waited over an hour for our breakfast, which was pre ordered the night before ... came in drabs for each guest at our table, and half plates were brought, eggs brought , and sausages brought later, kitchen was in a mess ! Complete downer to our stay

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:Absolutely everything! The bed was so big and comfy! The staff were accommodating and friendly. We were considering staying another night just to continue the hotel experience!

Review 22:Staff were amazing - so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Hotel and gardens are well kept, clean and secure.Hotel building has lots of character. Our Deluxe room was very spacious and comfortable. Dinner was excellent. Would definitely stay here again!

Review 23:For anyone not knowing the area, a car is definitely needed No gym, but jogging during daylight hours, close to the hotel was fine.

Review 24:Food was excellent Staff attended to your every need Rooms were large and clean Grounds and pool were lovely

Review 25:Wi Fi didn't work as well as I would have liked - signal not great. No do not disturb/make up my room signs Persians looked like they could use a good beating/vacuuming - gave the impression of not being 100% clean although apart from that everything else appeared clean

Review 26:Location. Attention to detail. Size of room and bathroom (upgraded to Executive as underfloor heating in original room was not working), Friendliness of Staff and willingness to attend to my every need (including the upgrade), underfloor heating! The dinners were superb - would go back there just for the food. Chef was top notch. Loved that it felt a hundred Kms away but was literally 45 minutes from home.

Review 27:We only booked a weekend....wish we could stay longer. I reallydidn't like coming back home :)

Review 28:Mash, one of the staff ladies, picked up immediately on a concern I hadabout the room we booked, within minutes, we were transferred to anotherroom which was more comfortable, I think that was exceptionally great, Idid not complain or said anything to her directly, I made a comment tomy fiancé and she sorted the problem out within minutes!! The staff arevery well trained, there was not one thing I could complain about, definitely a 5 star hotel with 5 star hospitality!! Annetjie and herteam, thank you so much for a great weekend!! You made our staymemorable!!

Review 29:i requested quiet room, gee there was a group of ladies (in the attached room) who were having such a good time in their room until early hours of the morning and were up early.

Review 30:Everything from food to the bed and service and the staff being accommodative to serve late breakfast and dinner in the room.

Review 31:I booked with the hotel's receptionist, a lady (won't disclose her name) in March. I booked two executive rooms, and made a special request with the lady that I will be taking out my husband and my daughter for their birthday, and wished to have a very special time, even if it meant at some extra charge. She indicated that we will be served dinner in the one cellar, which will make the birthday celebration special. She confirmed my booking which indicated that I was booked for room 6 and room 15. To my biggest disappointment, on our way to the hotel, maybe 15 minutes away, the same lady receptionist called me and told me that we were not going to be served dinner in the cellar as it was allocated to some other guests. And she did not indicate any remorse as she was mentioning this. As if that was not enough, when we arrived we were given keys for room 9 instead of room 6 as confirmed in the booking. We discovered that although the rooms were both rated executive and charged exactly the same amount, the standards were not the same. Room 9 was of a much lower standard than room 15. The setting and even the furniture was of a lower standard. I asked one staff member(house keeper) which executive rooms were best, and she confirmed that room 6 was one of the best executive rooms. Special thanks to Mashudu for making up for these disappointments, by organizing that we be served dinner in the cellar, and for decorating the cellar for us. Jackson came in and together with Mashudu they ensured that we enjoyed our dinner to the fullest!

Review 32:Just a few kilos away from the busy streets of JHB you find yourself in this breath-taking hotel! Excellent location! The staff is amazingly friendly and relaxed. Mashudu and Jackson ensured that we enjoyed our stay. Special thanks to Mashudu with Duanne's assistance by ensuring that we are placed in the cellar for our dinner. The cellar was the highlight of our visit. The deco, the food and the romantic music was overwhelming! It was my husband's birthday and it made us feel special! We were welcomed by chocolates and the rose petals strewn all over our rooms! The hospitality and service was outstanding!

Review 33:The staff really went to a lot of trouble to make our stay memorable - from the complimentary champagne and chocolates to the rose petals strewn all over! Truly a stay to remember!

Review 34:Garden & chapel requires some attention -seems someone started with a great idea and took it halfway. Attention to general building maintenance required.

Review 35:Friendliness of staff. Excellent cuisine. Design of building.

Review 36:My husband and I stayed at Afrique Boutique Hotel for 2 nights. It was a convenient location due to the proximity to the wedding venue we were attending. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the service was exceptional! Stuff is friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Grounds were tidy and very well looked after. Breakfast was diverse and dinner was delicious! Needless to say we were sad to leave. Our departure was 4:15am to catch a 6am flight out of J-burg. Unfortunately, our taxi never arrived (I booked an external company, my bad) so hotel owner was extremely kind and drove us to the airport at 4:30am so we don't miss our flight! That's what I call an amazing service. Johann, if you're reading this, thanks again for saving our holiday!

Review 37:Pillows not very comfortable.

Review 38:Great facilities. The staff are awesome, very friendly and polite. Anneke, Jackson, Dwayne and Mash were all wonderful! Will definitely stay at Afrique again.

Review 39:Thought the charge of R920 for the car to take us to the wedding venue and back a little excessive. (+/- 7 kms) In October last year we stayed at the Riverstone lodge and the transport to the venue at a similar distance was R260.

Review 40:We enjoyed our stay the hotel had a great atmosphere

Review 41:This was the nicest hotel I stayed at in SA. The hotel is very nicely decorated, the food was delicious, but the best part was how nice everybody at the hotel was! Super friendly, welcoming and helpful!

Review 42:We enjoyed the romantic dinner for 2 the manager planned for us in the cellar The great 24 hour service - breakfast waiting for us at 6am The biiiig, comfortable bed and clean white linen

Review 43:Noise travels and unfortunately, we had inconsiderate people next to us.

Review 44:It was so refreshing to go to a place where they understand what outstanding Customer Service means! Jackson & Mash made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The food was incredible!

Review 45:we did not experience anything negative.

Review 46:Great value for money - 5 star experience at a 3 star price. The staff went out of their way to please. The room was large and airy with a small balcony and everything was spotless.

Review 47:I would definitely recommend this hotel to any couple looking to spend a quite weekend away together. The staff went over and above to make sure we were always well looked after, the food was wonderful, and the rooms were insanely spacious. Will definitely go back and for a longer stay too

Review 48:Excellent location . Accommodation of very high standard . What made our stay special was the absolute friendliness and hospitability of all the staff [especially Mash and the cheff] without being fake or overwhelming . Highly recommended .

Review 49:There was nothing not to like our stay was fantastic.

Review 50:This was a wonderful experience. Superb quality in a unique setting topped off with exceptional staff.

Review 51:We stayed at this hotel over the weekend, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating, the breakfast was lovely and the rooms were immaculate and comfortable. The Owl encounter was absolutely amazing and a real treat. Thank you for a wonderful stay and keep up the great service!!

Review 52:sign hidden behind foliage; easy to miss. -miscommunication regarding breakfast meant we ended up running late, if you want breakfast in your room be sure to communicate this clearly.

Review 53:loved the stay; friendly and efficient staff, delicious well-presented breakfast (too early for buffet for us), well-appointed dining, pool area looked inviting but due to time we could not try it. next time for sure because we will definitely be back.

Review 54:Just a short drive away from the city and you can experience pure relaxation. What an amazing hotel! Rooms are stunning and the personal service we experience was just awesome! I would recommend Afrique to anyone!

Review 55:The staff are fabulous! They maintain the delicate balance between professionalism and informality...very skilled. The food was also great. We loved the kitchen in the dining room. The gardens are fabulous, a delight for bird watchers. I never did see the peacocks but we heard them everyday. We are already booking for our next stay.

Review 56:i have no words to describe my experience at Afrique Hotel. It was amazing!! everything was perfect! the food, the facilities, the staff! all amazing!!

Review 57:It was the little things that didn't work... No table laid for us for breakfast; order wrong even though you have to pre-order.... Coffee took a long time - one order of eggs arrived 5 mins after we'd finished etc etc All handled really well once we said something which was great!

Review 58:Lovely setting and a unique and unusual hotel. Staff were attentive and very willing

Review 59:It was a shock to enter the reception area and being faced with a dirty kitchen after feeding 80 people for lunch. It was not long , however, before everything was spick and span and it was kept that way for the rest of oourstay.

Review 60:The setting next to the botanical garden is excellent and we loved the resident owls. The staff treated us like royalty and we could even have a cup of coffee at four in the morning.

Review 61:small detail, but more signals to lead you to the hotel would help finding it.

Review 62:great service, good restaurant and flexibel with the check out time (we could stay in the room until 15:00 before we left for the airport), nice pool too, we would recommend this place strongly

Review 63:The warmest welcome in Gauteng! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. A lot of attention is paid to detail, with the best service around! The rooms and facilities are beautiful and very well kept. The highlight was most certainly the delightful and delectable cuisine which is on par with some of the top restaurants in Gauteng. We have already booked our next stay at this lovely guesthouse. A memorable stay all tucked away in this home-away-from-away gem! A thousand thank yous! Fred & Shamman

Review 64:Had an amazing weekend away with my girlfriend. I proposed to her on the Friday night. She told the receptionist in passing and when we returned to our room later that day, we found our bed covered in flower petals in the shape of a heart with a box of chocolates that said congratulations. We were amazed at the thoughtfulness of the staff and hotel in general. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel for a quiet getaway, not too far away from Johannesburg.

Review 65:From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable! Food was a bit average (granted we had to eat buffet because there was a conference also at the hotel), but the service and attention made up for it!

Review 66:There was a corporate function in the hotel, which took up most of the bar area, and played some fairly loud music (which could be heard from our room). It did stop at spot on 23:00 though, so no harm done :). The car park for the casino is adjacent, and people walking to their cars at night can be heard.

Review 67:The staff were friendly and professional but still relaxed and down to earth. This is a luxury hotel but with the feel of staying at a friend's house. It's not stuffy, but the service is still great. We arrived late but even though we hadn't ordered dinner they managed to whip up a stunning 3 course meal in no time. Breakfast was served at the counter if the wonderful country-style open plan kitchen, and had everything you could hope for prepared fresh right in front of our noses, even though it was an hour earlier than regular breakfast because we had to check-out early. They truly live up to their "24hr service" motto. The rooms were great, fantastically soft linen, huge bed and underfloor heating (a real bonus in winter)!

Review 68:Would have loved a wall-to-wall carpet in the bedroom to give it a warm feeling.

Review 69:The very warm hospitality with a personal touch on everything from the decor to food and interaction with staff. The internet booking was all so easy to do as well.

Review 70:Loved it all .

Review 71:A superb night away from home. Delicious food; friendly, happy service; upgraded to wonderfully comfortable room. Dwayne (Manager) was particularly attentive.

Review 72:Could not find the location on the GPS The rooms are not noise proof and could hear neighbor TV as well as chatter from breakfast area early in the morning

Review 73:Food, luxury, value, friendliness

Review 74:The service is incredible. We stay out often and this is one of the friendliest, most relaxed establishments with amazing service. Better than most 5 star hotels we have stayed in.
