Reviews for Glenburn Lodge & Spa

Review 1:the room and specially the bathroom where not clean on arrival and through our stay the room was not cleaned well. we stayed in the hotel 2 years ago all still the same. the rooms need to be renovated and bathroom seriously need to be redone.

Review 2:we liked the offer of activities, the walks biking fishing swimming etc and the food was excellent.

Review 3:While they had one pool area serviced, with pre made drinks, the rock pool was not serviced and needs attention. This would help in spreading out the guests

Review 4:The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We had lovely riverside suites, was peaceful. Breakfast was grand and extensive in their selections. The scenery was beautiful. Lovely bike trails and hiking. Highly recommend.

Review 5:The pre-ordered gift basket for my friends birthday was not delivered. Was slightly frustrated when told the upper deck swimming pool was closing and we could not order food when the operating times on the disclosure board indicated that we could still have access to the pool and services for another 2 hours. Bar fridges are not stocked.

Review 6:We had a very pleasing stay. The staff was so helpful with reactivating my cancelled booking. The convenience of having so many activities available on your doorstep was wonderful.

Review 7:Food. My dinner was not comfortable. Had to return food twice. Waiter who was serving us was clumsy and clueless. Hake fish was off. It didn't taste nice, grilled or fried. Third time dish was way better.

Review 8:The landscape

Review 9:The room needs an upgrade....Maybe redo the bathrooms?? The bar could do with better view. Maybe extend the balcony with a deck over the reception building to have a better view.

Review 10:The fantastic view and fabulous food!! The spa experience was incredible!

Review 11:Room and bathroom are looking tired - desperately in need of an update. Bath mixer didn't work unless you repeatedly hit it. Tiles broken. No fridge in room. For R700 pppn, that's ridiculous.

Review 12:Peaceful out in the country

Review 13:The rock pool bar is such an amazing feature but is not staffed. There is no time limit on the Jacuzzi, and one group of ladies occupied it for our entire stay at Glenburn Lodge.

Review 14:The room was absolutely beautiful. The mini dam, and gardens were very well manicured. The dinner buffet at the Conservatory restaurant was very impressive, with a great selection of delicious choices. The facilities at GlenPalms (putt-putt, cocktail bar, swingball, tennis, pool, games room) made our stay extra enjoyable and relaxing.

Review 15:Hi, Sindi, Blessings and Tebogo as well as the chef and all the staff at G.L. WOW, WOW, WOW and Some more WOW. i am working at Ford Motor Company and service is everything!!!!!!!!!! this is exactly what was delivered to me and more than i could ask for. 2nd stay at your Lodge and cant stop thinking of the amazing service, food etc!!. if this mail could travel many Km's i still would'nt be happy because there is no word for the great service recieved. 1 suggestion i do have, a heated pool could work well in future :) thankyou so much and whoever is managing the place, i think he is doing a excellent job. although you claim G.L. to be 3star i much disagree hence the service delivered was beyond 5star. feeling of importance, wanting and so forth all was just there in overflow. thankyou G.L. team you guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 16:Noisiest hotel I've ever stayed at, woken up by loud selfish guests from 2am till 4am on both sides by the pool and in the entrance hall. 1 night massage and relax totally ruined. Breakfast was a mess too, not enough staff and overcrowded.

Review 17:Beautiful venue and room.

Review 18:Took my husband to Glenburn Lodge for the night of his birthday. Staff went out of their way to make the evening special for us. Beautifully decorated dining table in private dining area was totally unexpected but greatly appreciated. Food was delicious

Review 19:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Both the breakfast and Sunday lunch were superb. We had not intended staying for lunch, but while enjoying sitting on the verandah, the delicious aromas of the food attracted our attention and we made the very sensible decision to have lunch. The lunch matched any of the fancy ones we have had in Dubai and elsewhere. Excellent value for money. Thank you

Review 20:Only dissappointing thing was the menu saturday evening at dinner, would have preferred an a la Carte menu and not an set menu at R200.00 as what was served does not suit everybodies taste buds.

Review 21:Love the fact that it was not too far to travel out of jhb and be out, soak up the sun and fresh air. Absolutely beautiful, peaceful and welcoming feeling!

Review 22:Unruly children in dining room with parents who did not take heed of management requests to keep them under control

Review 23:A short trip from Jo burg and felt like miles away. So close to some great facilities

Review 24:having to leave!!!! ;)

Review 25:The setting is idyllic. It is hard to believe that you are less than 20 minutes from the Sandton CBD. Despite the size of the resort there was never any sense of "too many people". Food was FANTASTIC!

Review 26:Rooms could do with a modern revamp, bigger TV's for starters. Buffet dinner was a little on the pricey side

Review 27:The staff were very friendly and attentive, even managed to watch the SA vs Samoa game on the hotels big screen in their pub which was great.

Review 28:The buildings are a bit old, and we didn't enjoy the food so much unfortunately. There was also a lot of noise around the hotel and spa due to conference that was going on that weekend we were there.

Review 29:We loved how friendly the staff were and absolute loved our spa treatments, the rooms were comfortable, and we were very surprised when they upgraded us to a garden suite

Review 30:We were surprised with a private romantic dinner in their wine cellar (as they took note that we were celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary) as well as a private delicious champagne breakfast by the pool side. Outstanding service from their staff, Their beautiful gardens made the stay breath taking.

Review 31:Unfortunately the bed was uncomfortable, bathrooms could do with a makeover. Cleaning staff were talking disruptively loud while we were relaxing in our room, on more than one occasion.

Review 32:Front of house staff are great! Beautiful surrounds and gardens. The food was very good

Review 33:Apes chasing people

Review 34:Beautiful gardens, layout of lodge and surroundings. Lots of water gives a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere. Area, close to city but not too close Will take my family there for a weekend. Food very tasteful and well presented.

Review 35:The shower was bad. Couldn't even adjust the pressure or the head

Review 36:They offer lots of facilities. Was tempted to stay an extra day. Romantic turndown was more than what I expected.

Review 37:the lady who cleaned our room dd not refill our supplies n there is a day she ddnt even come to clean

Review 38:the staff at the reception was so helpful we enjoyed the breakfast and dinner

Review 39:We were a bit disappointed to see that the sheets of our bed had holes in. It was also a bit unpleasant hat the room smelled like someone had been smoking in it for days.

Review 40:The staff were very friendly (a special thank you to our waiter, Trust!) and the property looks beautiful even though it is the middle of winter.

Review 41:Nothing.

Review 42:The food was amazing, the garden units are extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. The river sounds, the relaxing atmosphere, the use of gaming facilities at no extra charge. Lovely place!

Review 43:We went in July, it was very empty and lacked a 'vibe'. Also the spa was closed.

Review 44:Pretty location, buck and giraffe roaming around which was lovely. We were upgraded to a chalet by the river.

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:It's been years since we experienced such good service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We had a superb time here and will definitely be back.

Review 47:I think there by the upper part of the property at reception the roads were not marked very good to let you know where reception is. The roads is a bit small to drive there and find your way. The evening when we went for dinner, there was a group of people near the music stand, just below the bar that was very very noicy and that spoiled the sitting at the bar for us a lot. We actually wanted to to stay longer at the bar and listen to nice music but the group of people below made it unpleasant and the staff did nothing about it. I know the bar area is not quiet, but it is one thing to enjoy the evening with a bit of noice, but it is another to find a group of people putting the music loud and laughing out loud.

Review 48:The room was really very nice. I liked that when I came there the heater was already on and the warm blanket was on.

Review 49:Food was very average and definitely not well catered for people with a wheat intolerance or vegetarians.

Review 50:LOVED the bed, good; bath, garden view, giant chess board, excellent service from staff

Review 51:The cleaning personnel where shouting and laughing in the in the passage after lunch - a time that some guests may want to rest

Review 52:Although it was mid winter, the gardens and facilities were in a perfect condition. A good choice if you want to escape the rush of the city

Review 53:Only draw back, it has a massive tub, but you run out of hot water.

Review 54:What a wonderful night stay, everything was better than expected. Dinner was great with massive servings

Review 55:The restaurant service was a bit disappointing and the waiters a little slow on service.

Review 56:The grounds at Glenburn Lodge are beautiful and very well cared for. Definitely the location's biggest selling point.

Review 57:The Spa Manager could be more customer friendly and open to feedback to help improve the other potentially excellent Spa. The quality of wine for the wine by the glass could be better.

Review 58:The location and gardens Reception office very responsive The food was excellent

Review 59:The wedding function that was held on Sunday afternoon/evening spoilt it. It went on way after Midnight and carried on in the car park. We were very upset the security did nothing until 12:30p.m., when, I, Highly upset threaten to call the police myself. We, would like to return, but not if there are Wedding functions that are not controlled.

Review 60:The hospitality of the staff was amazing. To be in SA and receive, such wonderful service took our breath away. From reception to chef, and Manager THX

Review 61:Staff noisy. Staff oblivious to guests. Staff on there mobiles. Breakfast messy. Bar staff poor. Couldn't get a cuppuchino as coffee area closed all day. Shop closed on Sundays. No newspapers. No previous stay recognition.

Review 62:Great hotel. Great service. Dinner superb. Food great. Rooms great. Great location. Great gardens. Lots of new improvements. Lovely spa. Love the property. Will happily return.

Review 63:We booked a double bed and had 2 singles which was rectified on the Saterday.

Review 64:Almost everything from the Bushcamp, the Bridlesuite, the location, the river, gardens, just everything.

Review 65:Important to have a technical person available first thing in the morning to assist with set up and deal with any challenges in the conference area.

Review 66:The bed was amazingly comfortable! The staff are helpful and kind

Review 67:Dinner in main dining room expensive and of a poor quality

Review 68:Room was clean and well furnished. Bathroom well appointed and large. Shower was big in size which is a plus. Staff were most helpful and obliging. Found bed to be firmer than used to but provided padding the next morning which sorted out problem

Review 69:The televisions are very outdated and the display is small and extremely poor. Can definitely update the tv's. International visitors took pictures of the tv to show people back home what a CRT tv looks like!

Review 70:Staff was wonderful, open spaces and nature scenes

Review 71:There was no a la carte menu on offer in the restaurant only buffet (which was very good)

Review 72:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was very tranquil if you want a quiet getaway

Review 73:The only issue we had was that dinner was a set menu of R200 per person which we felt was a bit absurd. It was the only option.

Review 74:We had such a great stay. The staff were friendly, the accommodation was wonderful. It felt like 5star treatment.

Review 75:Nothing at all.

Review 76:We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. After receiving an upgrade we were shown the way to the Garden Suits where we found a luxurious room, with full amenities, Espresso machine, air conditioning and well laid out room with enormous bathroom / shower. Breakfast at the restaurant was superb with so much to choose from. Dinner was a international buffet and very reasonably priced. The Spa on the premises is awesome and the massages are highly recommended. Wonderful and relaxing mini break.

Review 77:Nothing. everything met our exexpectations.

Review 78:Peace and quiet. Excellent food and an awesome koppie. Staff very friendly and efficient. Stunning new pool area.

Review 79:THE VISIT WAS TOO SHORT

Review 80:The view from my room when I opened the window in the morning was breathtaking. The mountain, the birds singing, the sound of the waterfall got me up and ready for quick stroll.the breakfast was to die for.

Review 81:Air conditioner could have worked better. I was really hot and the Air conditioner did really cool the room down much. It could have been better.

Review 82:The friendliness of the staff and the additional services provided. WE spent our 29 wedding anniversary there and the staff real went the extra kilometer for us and gave a really memorable stay at the lodge. Better than what we expected.

Review 83:The staff were brilliant and with it being my wife's bday...the small touches and gifts really made her feel special. Much more than I expected for the price.

Review 84:Its situate right in the middle of the Cradle of mankind and Sterkfontein caves. The Regional airport is close by. I heard jackal cries during the night with frogs croaking and crickets singing their songs. Its was an amazing break away. Definite must

Review 85:While most of the staff members were very friendly, I felt the reception manager was not as warm.

Review 86:Amazing scenery with rivers and a mountain dropback. The yard is very well maintained with beautiful landscaping (I still can't get over it).

Review 87:1. Cleanliness of the hotel carpets, they need to be replaced at least with tiles or wooden floors they have an inviting smell. 2. The jacuzzi next to the pool does not get cleaned let alone swept. Its floor turns one off from getting into it. 3. The main breakfast hall, the chairs are untidy with horrible marks.

Review 88:The prices are very reasonable and the area is beautiful. The Spa is heavenly, it's like you are in 2 different places in comparison to the hotel.

Review 89:The lodge could do with some revamp. Our bathroom was not in a good condition and the carpet on the floor was too old.

Review 90:I really liked the garden with water flowing all over the lodge . It was breath taking. The food was delicious. Stuff was friendly, smiled and greeted us.

Review 91:Would like it to be pet friendly for small dogs seei g that the lay out of logde can accommodate it.

Review 92:Very impressive lay out of lodge. Service was excellent.

Review 93:The room we had needs a revamp. the curtains are tired and need to be replaced. I requested a hairdryer which never appeared.

Review 94:The gardens are beautiful and peaceful. Nice walks. Nice view from our room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 95:I did not like a bad service from one of your barman, his service is pathetic.......went at the back frequently to talk on his mobile, he did not know how to communicate with people. I have since reported the matter to your Restaurant Manager.

Review 96:Everything was ok, the location and the rooms themselves. Our room did not have a fridge, but we survived.

Review 97:The only thing I didn't like was the bed, found it to be too hard.

Review 98:I loved everything about this place I felt I was in another world for a day it didn't even feel like I was just a few km's away from Johannesburg. I will definitely book again just to feel the peace and the lovely green and mountains that surround this lovely place.

Review 99:Wifi was a total waste of time, just would not connect, some of the grounds needed to be brought up to the marriage area's level of tidiness, sound proof the water pump in the river for rooms 26 to 16,remove the sludge from the ponds

Review 100:Room,location,food,staff,price

Review 101:The receptionist didn't alert us on check in that we had been upgraded.

Review 102:The facilities are excellent and staff is visible, friendly and helpful. The food was divine! especially the dinner menu!

Review 103:Breakfast ends at 10:00, by 09:30 when we arrived for bfas half of the kitchen was cleared & we battled for seating, not all foods were available. This is not a major upset as I believe it can be fixed easily

Review 104:Noisy and unhelpful staff in hospitality areas staff talking loudly outside the room at 0630 no one to show us where our room was breakfast cold and under supplied coffee and tea served from flasks no selection for diabetics. too much starch and white carbs

Review 105:location reception staff

Review 106:No clearly signposted signs indicating where Glenburn Lodge reception isonce you enter the property. Just says "hotel" whith a numberof signs to other places. No designated parking area for arrivingguests. Left to find our own way to our room. No porter.Bar staff tookour lunch order and then had to be reminded to stop their conversationand bring the meal. Cleaning staff talking loudly in the corridoroutside the room very early in the morning. Cold breakfast. Managermoaning at staff in front of guests in dining area. Too many stafffloating aimlessly about and blocking the buffet table. Staffinefficient and inattentive. Food trays were empty and took a while toreplenish. Too many high sugar and high carb choices which did not takeinto account the needs of a diabetic. Coffee served in flasks atbreakfast while the coffee machine was there and unplugged

Review 107:Reception staff were friendly and obliging. Went out of their way to beof service. Grounds well kept. Room very neat and clean.

Review 108:Great location at good price. The facilities are excellent and well maintained. Highly recommended for a relaxing weekend getaway and the breakfast is indeed world class.

Review 109:The pillows were very uncomfortable. They should consider offering room service

Review 110:The dinner buffet was superb. Every member of staff smiled and greeted us and offered to help, great service orientated staff

Review 111:We weren't treated like we were on honeymoon. Lunch was a forced buffet price but we only wanted light lunch. Expensive. Dinner expensive for quality presented.

Review 113:The tranquillity of the area. the staff was very accommodating.

Review 114:No filter coffee after supper

Review 121:Spa treatment; hotel, rock pool, put put and tennis court

Review 122:The rooms are possible in need of some updating.

Review 124:Location and staff were superb

Review 125:Service levels were brilliant and you always got the feeling every single staff member actually cared about you! Will definitely be back

Review 126:People were friendly and it was very pleasant to stay in the area with all the facilities.

Review 127:TV too small

Review 128:Atmosphere, scenery, meals

Review 129:Bathroom in the room needs attention.

Review 130:Service

Review 131:Old furniture

Review 132:Room mix up. Didn't into ally get what we saw on the pictures. But room was changed.
