Reviews for Peery Hotel
Review 1:The elevator was out of order during our stay and our room was on the top floor. Room was very small. TV and Heating/AC controls were very outdated.
Review 2:The location was perfect. Just a few blocks from all the main attractions. Also, the cleanliness and comfort of the room was very favorable. Breakfast was also desirable.
Review 3:Parking is a very sore spot as in there is no hotel controlled parking. The parking is either street (doing the parking meter shuffle) or privately owned parking lot that only offers 2 choices, 10 hr $6 or 24 hr $12. Televisions in rooms are as old as the hotel itself, do not expect modern appliances in rooms, understood they are coming with complete remodel that is underway
Review 4:Great charming old world type hotel of which there are few left. Staff is friendly and accommodating, and the hotel is located in the middle of a popular neighborhood in the downtown area. Overall a very pleasant stay and spacious comfortable rooms
Review 5:Wait until the remodel is complete before staying here. Unfortunately the hotel has remained open during this process where they should just close until it's complete. There was virtually no heat in our room or our son's, and the lobby was freezing. We called to the front desk about this, and the gal was kind enough to give our sons the last space heater -- hers. This was very kind of her. The decor is very outdated, so I wonder what all is being remodeled. Are they updating furniture also? The windows are not double-pane so there was a lot of cold coming through. I hate to give a place a negative review, but I really hope this hotel comes through the remodel in a grand way, because this could be a fabulous hotel if done right. Remodel is supposed to be complete spring 2016.
Review 6:Great location; within walking distance to many restaurants and the city Creek Mall. Parking lot is right next door and only $12 for 24 hours.
Review 7:The level of heat available within the rooms needs improvement. We had the heaters turned to full capacity and the rooms never truly reached a level of comfort. It was very chilly the night we were there and we could not shake the cold, so we ended up under the blankets instead of watching television on the couch.
Review 8:The ambiance and decor were amazing
Review 9:They reserved my room for the wrong night and then fixed it but still charged me and charged me for the right night. There was no food at there breakfast. The staff has no customer service skills. Elevators were broken. No private parking.
Review 10:Beds are awesome. The historical value of this hotel is very cool. Located in downtown. Within walking distance of many restaurants and bars.
Review 11:The room didn't have its own temperature control and the window didn't open, so I was hot all night. The breakfast wasn't very good, not enough choices and coffee was all out.
Review 12:Staff were very nice. It's a very old building with character, great atmosphere with a haunted, nostalgic feeling.
Review 13:The parking. Got a ticket within 2 minutes of entering the building. They don't own the parking lot!! Make sure you pay BEFORE you register!!!
Review 14:The beds are a little piece of heaven. The staff is very helpful and friendly
Review 15:It wasn't a bad experience just a minor adjustment for the heat and cooling. They can't run at the same time so during the summer the air conditioner goes and the heater is on during the winter. If the room gets too hot, then there is no way of cooling off unless there is a fan. It would be nice if the windows could open a bit.
Review 16:We absolutely loved the history of the building. It was like stepping back into time. My husband and I loved the whole atmosphere and the wonderful staff. As you walk in, there is a beautiful chandelier that hangs as you come in. I wouldn't change anything with the decor of this hotel. It is a truly amazing hotel with all the historical charm.
Review 17:The ancient television and fact that the cabinet it resides in was placed right in front of the window was rather odd. Caution if you have a vehicle, parking is terrible and quite costly, not run by hotel and many people were getting tickets or towed
Review 18:The staff is outstanding and the beds are very comfortable. Room was spacious and pleasantly decorated.
Review 19:We have stayed at The Peery Hotel a couple of times and love it! Such a great place for half the price of other nearby hotels. The room was very clean, staff courteous and helpful, loved the atmosphere, comfortable bed. We were upgraded without asking at no additional costs. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.
Review 20:Really needs a face lift - tired and fells dirty inside. No elevator and the rooms heating was awful
Review 21:Location was great and the price is very competitive
Review 22:When we received our keys, the room was occupied. Our next room had a broken window, tv cabinet and remote. Music blared all night, the beds were hard and there was not a restaurant in the hotel as advertised. (There were supposed to be two)
Review 23:The walk to the temple or city creek was just a short distance.
Review 24:The elevator was being replaced so although we were notified about a week ahead of time we could not get reservations elsewhere. After knee surgery the three flights of stairs weren't great.
Review 25:The staff was amazing. The breakfast was nice and the beds were comfortable. The hotel was a bargain for the area.
Review 26:The hotel stairs and hallways looked like they had not been vacuumed in weeks. The drain in the shower didn't drain and slopped around in our own shower water. The toilet ran all night. The curtains had so many cobwebs and so much dust on them I was afraid to move them that something might fall out of them. Ancient TV that the remote didn't work. Horrible connection to WIFI. Had to pay $12 for parking. Really? Maybe a voucher? The iron MELTED PLASTIC into my son's white shirt that he was to wear to a wedding when I iron it. The front desk could care less and when I asked for a new one they brought up a hairdryer. I took it down personally to complain, and they said "Oh.. well just put it on the counter there". They did not care one bit about the damaged shirt or how unhappy we were.
Review 27:The beds were really nice, I believe they were Temperpedic or an off brand of them.
Review 28:We were in the 3rd floor with no elevator. The parking is a minor problem especially when there are events in town.
Review 29:The old era feeling and architecture.
Review 30:My room was pretty cold, even with the heat on I was often chilled. There was no tea available at breakfast either. : (
Review 31:Very nice bed, lots of good dining options nearby. Fairly quiet for being right downtown. Beautiful historic building.
Review 32:Elevator wasn't working and window was painted shut. Cost extra for parking.
Review 33:The staff was very good. The room was clean, bed very comfortable but the there was no coffee machine or refrigerator.
Review 34:Hotel is under construction with no working elevator at the time of our stay. Our room was on the top floor. Our room was nice but the temperature could not be regulated to cooler. It was unbearably hot.
Review 35:Staff was kind and considerate. Also staff was accomodating and helpful when we had an issue which prompted us to check out earlier than our reservation.
Review 36:Poor lighting in room, barely adequate for reading.
Review 37:Location, location, location! Breakfast Room is adequate Friendly helpful staff Value for money especially when compared to "name brand" hotels nearby.
Review 38:Windows couldn't open in the first room. Was able to get another room for the remaining nights. Breakfast is minimal, reminded me of a hostel. No diner-options in the hotel.
Review 39:Good location, friendly and coöperative staff
Review 40:All was a bad experience. A TV that was discontinued in many parts of the world more than 10 years ago (analogic) and out of order!. Broken curtains, Workers in tthe windows (zero privacy!), Dirty, bad smell.
Review 41:Nothing!
Review 42:The rooms we had very extremely hot and the AC/heat system very noisy. Trouble with allergies.
Review 43:The Staff was phenomenal! Very helpful and curtious.
Review 44:Authentic historic building with charming period furniture (and comfortable too!). In walking distance to City Center, Congress Hall and Temple District. The tram is very near and runs directly to the Airport (2.50 USD) and to the train station. The ride is free inside the city center - very convenient. You can also rent an e-bike round the corner - go green.
Review 45:Elevator was out so you had to walk up the stairs to your room. Also it's October and it was pretty cold in the room, but there was no heat for the building yet, so they gave us space heaters
Review 46:Friendly and helpful service
Review 47:Old heating/cooling, peely and slightly rusty bath tub, window in bathroom was painted completely shut with no option to open.
Review 48:Quaint and in a great location. Staff was very accomodating.
Review 49:Oldest operational elevator in Salt Lake City didn't work during October 2015 visit and is being replaced. Some furniture was shopworn.
Review 50:Charm of the historic, old hotel. Convenient location. Attentive staff. Large living room and separate bedroom. Comfortable bed. Reasonably good included breakfast. Surface parking at $12 per 24 hours located immediately next to the hotel.
Review 51:I'm a smoker, so I wish the had more then the front entrance to get in and out.
Review 52:I loved that the hotel was older and had a lot of character but still clean and comfortable at the same time.
Review 53:The room is in need of some minor updating (but the hotel is in the middle of a remodel) and there were no non-dairy options for coffee at breakfast which disappointed my lactose intolerant friend.
Review 54:It is close to where we needed to be, the staff is helpful and nice, and the beds are fantastically comfortable.
Review 55:They were in the middle of renovations but it didn't cause much bother. Can't wait to stay again once everything is finished. Very very small elevator though. It broke down and we had to take the stairs. Not the worst thing in the world, but still a bit inconvenient.
Review 56:The style of the hotel is very cool. Has an almost Victorian/gothic feel.
Review 57:Very old and dated ,work being done on the property we were not told in advance, not even told by reception staff only when you got to the the room there was a letter waiting for us !! Rooms and faculties very dated TVs that were at least 15-20 years old , if the hairdryer was unplugged in the bathroom lights and ac tripped out - this hotel needs to move into the 21st century, I was told they had parking actually they don't it's a public car park, no city maps at reception ( actually got a map from a different hotel reception) generally the reception staff were unhelpful I would NOT recommend this hotel
Review 58:Good location
Review 59:It was our Anniversary and we reserved the King suite. When we got to our room, our view outside was the top of the roof with scaffolding and construction. Tried to get another room to no avail, so we left. Very unhappy.
Review 60:Ian at the front desk was nice. Gave us a full refund when we decided to not stay due to the rooms we were given for the amount of money we were going to spend.
Review 61:We visited Salt Lake City for LDS church conference the hotel was ideally placed for walking to Temple Square, There are also good places to eat within easy walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 62:I'm not sure what the standard rate for a room is, but I would hesitate to pay much more than I did as the room we were in was not very large and the window faced the center of the building with no view. Due to the age of the building, you can hear quite a bit of noise from the hallways.
Review 63:I booked this reservation the day of and was quite happy with the deal I received. The bed in our room was VERY comfortable, I believe it was a tempurpedic, which was great after a 12 hour drive. The location was wonderful for a first time visit to SLC
Review 64:no closets
Review 65:This hotel was built in 1910, I loved staying there. Room was great, staff was amazing!!! very helpful and friendly. When I come back to SLC I will stay here again. Spent 8 nights this trip.
Review 66:They do not own their own parking lot. It is city parking.
Review 67:The bed was awesome it was very comfortable! The hotel over all was cool and historical I love it and the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you like historical places this is the place. I will stay here again.
Review 68:The breakfast was just ok, and could have used a few options for non coffee drinkers. That was the only thing I wouldn't give a super rating to. But hey, it was free with the room.
Review 69:Beautiful historic hotel in the middle of everything downtown. Comfy bed, nice sitting area in our suite. Friendly staff. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping and attractions. Bikes available through Green Bikes right outside. We were here five nights, and would happily stay here again on our next trip to Salt Lake.
Review 70:The cleaner had left behind a clump of hair in the bath tub and did not manage to remove it even after being told by us. The breakfast room was a total disaster - constantly running out of food, which was not replaced in a reasonable time frame. They require more staff to cope with the morning run of customers!
Review 71:The reception staff, in particular Jesse who helped us to get our laptop fixed - very helpful!! The hotel has old world charm and is in a convenient location.
Review 72:There is no free parking. To be fair though, other hotels in the area also have a fee to park.
Review 73:They staff was friendly. Because I was traveling alone, I appreciated feeling safe. I liked the historic atmosphere. It was in walking distance to all of my downtown needs.
Review 74:The hotel didn't have much to offer because of it's age- but we knew this going in. Internet was very slow, I had trouble just looking up restaurants to eat at.
Review 75:Loved the 'old' boutique feel. Continental breakfast.
Review 76:Poor lighting in the rooms. No ability to control temperature in individual rooms. LOUD music from nightclub across the street not dampened by old windows. No full length mirror in rooms.
Review 77:Good value - significantly lower rates than neighboring hotels. Great proximity to the convention center. Comfortable rooms. Breakfast was fine - nothing special. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Review 78:There are some quirks being an old hotel. My tub dripped constantly and the floors creaked but it is part of the character of the place.
Review 79:The staff was awesome; friendly, engaging, and eager to assist. The history of the hotel is very interesting and gives the property personality. The location is great and close to everything.
Review 80:Beautiful and charming architecture. Great location, could walk to temple square. Old bathroom with no tub and not much space for toiletries . Nice staff
Review 81:We had a noisy air conditioner, very poor breakfast and generally felt that the services offered were below par. The hotel needs a makeover to make it more appealing
Review 82:Good location, interesting building and helpful staff
Review 83:It would have been useful to have access to a computer station and printer but not essential.
Review 84:The staff is helpful, personable and friendly. They make guests feel welcome.
Review 85:The age of the building showed here. The creaks in the floors and thewalls through the night were a bit annoying. The bathroom toilet had ahard time flushing water, let alone other floaters :-0. There was noonsite parking. With street parking full each night I was left paying $12a night for the nearest parking lot.
Review 86:Great location, beautiful historic lobby, nice staff and great value for the money. Breakfast was mediocre, but no complaints based on the cost per night - it was nice to have anything offered.
Review 87:No coffee, tea or water in the rooms. plastic and paper dishes and cutlery which results in an abundance of waste. Very poor respect for the environment. That was really disappointing.
Review 88:Old time charm.
Review 89:While historic is great - the facility is worn and tired and in need of some serious upgrades. Hotel/room amenities were minimal and breakfast was a little bleak. Had to change rooms (twice) - second time due to serious cleanliness issue.
Review 90:Staff was terrific.
Review 91:Screwed up our room, way small room, ac was broken, the staff was great at giving excuses and reason why they failed. It was the worst hotel i have ever been to.
Review 92:We liked best the leaving this location. Horrible expereince. It sucked.
Review 93:The room was extremely small and noisy. Breakfast was of very poor quality.
Review 94:The bed was really comfortable and the location of the hotel was extremely convenient.
Review 95:The free breakfast was pretty bad and they used paper plates and plastic silverware. It would be so easy for them to improve it.
Review 96:Location was good with discount for brew pub across the street which had good food and atmosphere. The Peery is a nice, older hotel that has perhaps seen better days but was kinda fun for that reason. The desk clerks and cleaning staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Review 97:The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The room was small but wonderfully cozy. Our stay was relaxed and a pleasure. The staff was responsive and friendly.
Review 98:The parking is terrible. The hotel NEEDS to work something out for patrons of their hotel. $12 a night is totally ridiculous. Not to mention the private company ticketed us while we we checking in and unpacking. About a 30 minute timeframe. Also, the breakfast was terrible. It was greasy and tasted artificial.
Review 99:We very much enjoyed the location and the ambiance of the building. The architecture was beautiful.
Review 100:We there on a very hot day and the AC seemed to struggle to keep it comfortable. Parking was a little confusing (is apparently abundant downtown) but there is an adjacent lot with a reasonable flat fee for 12 or 24 hrs that seemed to fill up.
Review 101:Great location, friendly staff, quaint details. Super comfortable bed! Small rooms and shower but as its a historic hotel, space used as practically as possible. Decent options for free continental breakfast.
Review 102:No parking lots and public parking lots are strictly controlled. A renewed bath would improve this hotel from a good into a great one
Review 103:Close to temple square, lots of bars and restaurants around Flair of the hotel itself
Review 104:Breakfast served with plastic cutlery and paper plates and cups by unhelpful staff. Expect better in a hotel of this distinction.
Review 105:Historical hotel with character. Room was large, clean and comfortable.
Review 106:Air conditioning didn't work but i must say they got 2 fans up to us very quickly.
Review 107:This is a lovely old hotel in a great location. Staff were helpful.
Review 108:The sink in the bathroom ran really slow and the shower lever very difficult to operate. A little maintenance is need. No real amenities. No hotel parking and no break on the price for hotel guests.
Review 109:Location to all dowtown is great. Quaint and charming building. Quiet and comfortable.
Review 110:Hotel does not have parking, so every two hours you have to move your car from public parking or pay for parking elsewhere. The room was dark, no view, but mainly very loud and uncomfortable bed. Poor value for money.
Review 111:Convenient location.
Review 112:The building and the overall property are old. Especially their room door system, I always have trouble to open the door of my room.
Review 113:Location is perfect. Stuffs are sympa.
Review 114:Tiny room (king classic) No parking Catastrophic breakfast No light in shower No sink in bathroom Received room with clogged water lines
Review 115:Good location Relatively clean
Review 116:The breakfast was highly processed with a lot of gluten. When USANA convention comes to town you really need to up the health factor. Steel cut oats, real eggs and Greek yogurt can make all the difference.
Review 117:Nice room and bathroom
Review 118:Nothing.
Review 119:Love the location. The nearby restaurants. The hotel ambiance. The decor. It brings me back in time! Even the old scent is distinct. Breakfast is plentiful.
Review 120:The breakfast buffet is a joke, serving only basic, processed food (hot meals include sausages and scrambled eggs). And what's worse, it's served on paper plates, with plastic utensils. In stark contrast to the historical atmosphere of the place.
Review 121:Set in a lovely historical building in the center of Salt Lake City. Nice, spacious rooms, with an "old-style" charm. Comfortable bed with canopy.
Review 122:Some carpets a bit tatty. Should be able to offer a Fridge and Coffee Maker even in thus style if hotel
Review 123:Great central location. Fantastic staff. Historic charm. Quirky
Review 124:air-conditioning did not work; staff was responsive but not able to help; TV did not work; terrible smell, especially in hallways- smelled like a kennel
Review 125:historic building, well decorated
Review 126:Breakfast was unacceptable. Poor choices and the staff person was of no help. The elevator needs to be updated and speeded up.
Review 127:Beautiful hotel and room.
Review 128:the staff handling the breakfast buffet was not attentive to refilling hot breakfast items. In our short time at breakfast we and another guest had to search out an attendant ask for items to be refilled. Absolutely empty container of the eggs and zero gravy, which the other guest had to seek out and request of attendant. There were only two other quests eating-not a lot of people consuming items.
Review 129:The bed was amazing. Super comfortable!
Review 130:The breakfast was pretty sad, dried up scrambled eggs, gluey gravy and stale biscuits. I was under the impression I would have a room with a bathtub, I had been looking forward to taking a bath, which I can't do at home.
Review 131:the bed and pillows were very comfortable!
Review 132:Room service was very late in day. Bath tub needed a mat as was slippery, metal rod was sticking out of the side of bed and kept hitting leg on, window shade was hard to work and almost fell on head. rooms very small and chair at desk to short and no padding.
Review 133:Beautiful furnishing. Very pleasant and helpful at desk. Very clean and comfortable for one person.
Review 134:Breakfast was eh. Scrambled eggs and sausage everyday with cereal and a bread variety everyday.the same cereal and breads. Not too many other places to go, do it sufficed.
Review 135:Location was great and most staff were extremely pleasant.
Review 136:Bathroom was a little cramped, but since I was the only one staying in the room, I managed.
Review 137:Breakfast provided, and close location to convention center.
Review 138:Has become quite run down and is in disrepair. Sheet rock hanging from ceiling in bath, wallpaper coming I Off, paint chipping off. Lobby has musty odor. Carpet is soiled.
Review 139:Great old historic hotel right downtown near lots of great restaurants and other entertainment. Attentive staff. Love these old buildings. Very classy and still affordable.
Review 140:The room was too small. A minibar would be nice. Should upgrade the TV to flat screen.
Review 141:It's like going back in time. Syaffs are friendly and helpful.
