Reviews for Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa
Review 1:Everything else. Poor room maintainance (blocked drains, lightbulb not working etc.), slowest service ever, terrible food etc. etc.
Review 2:Location - Animals, hiking trail...that's all.
Review 3:Service levels are poor. There was no water the next day to even flash the toilet. The previous night the computer system was affected by lighting and we could not book through the Spa. Booking.com did not inform the Spa people that I was interested in doing full body massage on the following day, hence I ended up not being booked and forfeiting the massage part.
Review 4:The servicing of the rooms was not of the expected quality. E.g.Tissue papers were not replaced on time, an empty bottle of wine from the previous evening not cleared from the room. Apart from this, our stay was wonderful and relaxing.
Review 5:The location. The peacefullness and being surrounded by nature. The rooms were open and spacious. Thouroughly enjoyed the spa treatments and using the spa facilities.
Review 6:Buffet meal every evening and no set menu. Coffee, tea etc in rooms not replaced every day. Light bulbs need to be checked. Too many flies - need overhead fans on veranda.
Review 7:The surroundings and setting is lovely
Review 8:The food selection and service at the main restaurant was average.
Review 9:The staff was friendly, everyone was willing to accommodate us in every respect, it was very relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place and return.
Review 10:Cost paid was different from misleading cost quoted on booking.com General not 5 star quality especially food at restaurant, not fine dining as said on website Pool loungers broken Expensive dinners without choice Lack of service, waited 4 hours for water
Review 11:Excellent location.
Review 12:I had made the bookings via Bookings.com, however upon arrival at the resort they did not have a confirmed booking for me and were fully booked. After about 10min they could accommodate me on a last min cancellation they had.....if that did not come through I would have had no bookings and return home. Very disappointed with Bookings.com regarding this experience. Another disappointment was the food, we are Halaal friendly, which I explained upon checking in and they seemed quite accommodating. However in the restaurant staff were very uneducated about halaal and not very accommodating either.
Review 13:Tranquil and relaxing setting. Animal sightings were lovely.
Review 14:The family rooms provide no privacy need at least dry wall separation.
Review 15:Location is king nestled nicely at the foot of hills. The rooms were tidy and comfortable beds, the food is 3 star and have no complaints about it.
Review 16:The spa was not as good as expected. The massages were good but the manicure and pedicure were really not as good as I would expect
Review 17:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were there to celebrate my dads 80th birthday and it was a wonderful celebration made so because of the excellent staff
Review 18:Food quality (except Kingklip pasta dish), staff knowledge of hotel facilities, dining-room staff professionalism.
Review 19:Location, walks, animals in the wild, gardens, proximity to Jhb, room.
Review 20:The phone at boom gate to the rooms was not working and the boom gate swipe card machine wasn't picking our card. So had to drive back to the reception.
Review 21:The place is so clean, staff very professional and friendly. Just a perfect place for anyone looking for a quite place with beautiful scenary.
Review 22:Housekeeping - leaving insufficient towels after second day. Tea coffee and biscuits being delivered at different times by different people instead of one person doing this in the morning.
Review 23:Evening meals. Tranquility
Review 24:pool facilities was not up to standard. broken chairs and not enough lounges in the area. Also some drink service would be great.
Review 25:Very friendly staff and food was excellent would be back just for that.
Review 26:No pool loungers at the main pool. No service at the smaller pool area.
Review 27:Felt expected on arrival. All the staff are exceptional. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. Food was superb. Beautiful surroundings and peaceful. Spa treatment was very relaxing.
Review 28:The Staff is extremely friendly , please maintain it. From the gate to reception . I literally mean everybody. I will recommend Kloofzicht to anyone, still speaking and bragging about our weekend at Kloofzicht . ?
Review 29:The walk to the rooms is too far. I would suggest a golf car. reading lights next to the bed is insufficient - impossible to read at. Upholstering in some rooms need revamping.
Review 30:Beautiful venue. Well maintained outer. Five star breakfast . friendly staff.
Review 31:Trying to find yoor room in the dark with poor directions. Ordinary breakfast.
Review 32:The view, the spaciousness of the rooms, the amenities, the overall ambience.
Review 33:Noise in the evening after 8 30 pm of children running around and shouting. - think there was some function on with lots of children Uncomfortable patio chairs.
Review 34:The view and peacefulness. The setting- private The facilitates are great
Review 35:Lodge appears a bit rough around the edges.. our phone wasn't working; several lights were out, outside of buildings was a little tacky and the gardens outside needed some TLC. No big issues, just a fair few little noticeable things
Review 36:Setting and the staff were fantastic
Review 37:Our room didn't get refill on the coffee station on the second day so we couldn't make coffee in the room. The waiters service are very slow and had to ask more than one person to help us on several occasions.
Review 38:Plenty of friendly staff who lacked supervision. On bar verandah no one ever offered a drink. You hD to go and get it from the bar. Area was dirty and had not been vacuumed or mopped in days ( evidence of things dropped from 2 days prior)
Review 39:Lovely lodge and accommodation.
Review 40:Nothing of the staff service and management just got away with location maybe
Review 41:Nothing the 2 day stay was like been part of church meeting bland boring and will never remember my stay
Review 42:Nothing I did not like
Review 43:Loved the outstanding service and everything as I had booked was perfect. Friendly staff and an amazing atmosphere was very impressed and frankly was tempted to stay another night.
Review 44:Staff tends to be noisy- specially on grounds around chalets
Review 45:Peace and tranquility- very friendly staff, very comfortable spa, excellent treatments and packages!
Review 46:The toilets near the restaurant were very untidy...toilet rolls on the floor and dirty floors. Our electricity had tripped when we got to the suite...speedy staff were there to help us.
Review 47:The reception staff were so friendly...made us feel very welcome...Lovely suite
Review 48:They had no table for us at lunch and told us to sit in the reception area. They would call us as soon as they prepared a table for us and they just left us there until I went in much later and caused a fuss.
Review 49:For 5 star lodge the attention to detail should have been better e.g. outside our room the seats were stained and there was left over "cable" I assume from a job on the unit. One suggestion - not really a complaint - would be to offer MCC by the glass at the bar - I was surprised when this was not an option. sun downers with such a view would have been even better.
Review 50:The setting is magnificent. I found all the staff I interacted with to be very helpful - they did the little extra things without being asked - always a good sign.
Review 51:Think that the room service menu can be improved.
Review 52:We needed a break and found Kloofzicht through Booking.Com on a special for the night. Served the purpose. We had a very relaxing 24 hours with SPA treatment etc. Will go again.
Review 53:One of the evenings dinners was below par. The medium rare steak was burnt to a crisp, but management did try and rectify the situation. The breakfasts and lunches were excellent but the dinners weren't always wonderful.
Review 54:I visited the resort on a very cold weekend. Before booking, I intentionally searched for a venue with a fireplace. On the website it was sold as a fireplace, when we got there it was a gas fireplace with limited gas supplies between 4pm and 10pm. Further to that, there were air holes between the roof and walls, further making the place unbearably cold. Dead flies on the mosquito net above the bed. At night it was raining and we had to walk between the units and the restaurant. Not the kind of thing you'd expect at a 5 star venue.
Review 55:To be such a big place we still got the feeling that we were more or less alone. The food is good and not pricey. Nice possibilities to hike and walk at the reserve.
Review 56:Taps in our bathroom was broken, the aircon did not seem to work either and we were freezing in the room. Also, the minibar was empty so should have then been advertised as a fridge rather. We had to request for bathrobes and milk as there was none available in the room.
Review 57:The pub was lovely and the food was devine.
Review 58:The bed is really hard - like sleeping on a cement block - it really spoilt my sleep. The food is average which is fine and not a problem but way overpriced - I would stay there again but bring my own food. Nearly R600 for two people for a plate of food and 2 coldrinks is a little excessive.
Review 59:Rooms and decor is really beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. The spa was also wonderful.
Review 60:Not much activity for those guests whom don't want the spa and fly fishing. It would have been awesome if the lodge offered a hiking trail.
Review 61:The lodge is situated in the most stunning valley. Worth a visit
Review 62:The showers are no enclosed and therefore spill all over the floor area. Management may want to consider putting a glass door...
Review 63:Rooms comfortable, breakfast awesome and so was dinner!
Review 64:invisible management pathetic gym waitress in spa saying she's doing me a favour!! lack of activities
Review 65:well maintained location beautiful setting
Review 66:The rooms seemed to need a bit more attention, our fireplace wasn't working, the curtains were falling off the railing above the bed, little attention to details need to be looked as when you paying over R2000 for a night. There didn't seem to be customer care for example they don't put that extra special touch to your room when you come back from dinner, turn down, choc on the pillow etc.The staff do try their best though to rectify the situation regarding our stay.
Review 67:The food was superb! Tastefully done with freshness and attention to detail.
Review 68:The food at the Erving meal was like a canteen ... Really not good . Breakfast was much better
Review 69:Location was great . Size of rooms generous .. Gym facility could improve
Review 70:The lunch on Saturday was very average. Dinner was okay but could have been better. Lighting at night on some of the pathways can be improved. The advertised Wi-Fi could also be improved seeing as though the property is services by a private mocrowave link (probably 1Gbps).
Review 71:We loved the scenery and tranquility. The deluxe room was huge and of supreme comfort. The grounds are meticulously cared for and buildings and gardens are a wonder to behold.
Review 72:Remote of Tv wasn't working; Internet on the bungalow didn't work well; Many business travelers create a non-romantic atmosphere;
Review 73:Very nice, quiet, remote location; Wild animals (harmless) roam freely on the surrounding grasslands; Staff is friendly; Rooms are great
Review 74:Shocking service, tired rooms with threadbare small towels, impossibly hard bed. Nothing in the mini bar. 1 rusk at the coffee station. We were refused a meal from the bar at 4pm on Saturday so had to leave Kloofzicht if we wanted any (we are hungry cyclists!). 30 minute wait for a drink at dinner. Polystyrene in the mushroom sauce at breakfast damaged my tooth. Sadly disappointing. If I ever go back I'll pack my own towels and a cooler box.
Review 75:The location and the view.
Review 76:The food was poor. The menu was limited with some pretty fancy dishes none of which were executed well. This is was disappointing
Review 77:outstanding location and facility. Amazing views and we love the rooms.
Review 78:Food is mediocre, need to update outdated tvs and the signal reception, internet lacking and only available in hotel reception.
Review 79:Location is excellent and we love coming back here.
Review 80:The service in the dining room, during dinner, was a little sluggish and our waitron was unsure about many of the eating and drinking options. She was more than happy to assist, but I do expect the the staff and service in a 5-star establishment to be more knowledgeable and fluid.
Review 81:We loved the accommodation, the swimming pools, the walking trails, the food, the deck, the friendly staff...
Review 82:The front doors could do with a couple of coats of varnish. Broken venetian blinds looked unkept. spiders webs on exposed roof beams and rolling screens looked untidy Bathroom fittings: made of wood looked old and dirty and should be replaced. The "fully stocked bar" comprised of 2 beers 2 cold drinks and 2 waters as standard. The breakfast was average.
Review 83:The location and condition of the grounds were excellent. the views majestic. The lawns well manicured. the ambience was beautiful. The staff were approachable, friendly and eager to please. the bathroom was clean. Room spacious. The pool was pleasant
Review 84:I did not get what I booked. I booked a superior room at Kloofzicht for R2300 a night with separate elevated lounge as the space is needed as a new traveling family with Superior rates and got a deluxe room which is smaller unit with less comfort. It was my Fiancee's birthday on the day of arrival. The hotel could not accommodate my room request after I had booked this and did not offer compensation/complementary drink or meal for the troubles. neither did they go out of their way to make her day special after they said they would make a plan as per my original special request to the Hotel, not even a simple "happy birthday" from the staff!! We were also put on the other side of the lodge with no offer to carry our bags. Let me tell you that there is a lot to carry when you have a 7month old baby. Hence the additional request for a closer superior room. Upon arrival in the room on the other side of the hotel after long hot summers day walk in a pram unfriendly environment from the Hotels parking, we had a 1 can of Coke and 1 bottle of Windhoek beer in the fully stocked bar, this is a very bad reflection for 5 star hotel. We also used the overnight stay to check out the Hotels wedding facilities for our 150-180 guests and respective night stay over of the wedding in November 2015 this year. We will not be using Kloofzicht due to these experiences. The fact that no communication by either bookings.com, nor the hotel to notify us that we will not be getting what we booked and paid for is very bad service in the ever competitive hospitality industry that caters specifically for the ever increasing consumer needs. If my clients/reps booked a service or product and I did not get what they ordered my company would not just take the money and not notify of the changes, the staff would get into serious trouble.I’m very upset to say the least and considering leaving a few serious complaint via various social media websites.
Review 85:housekeeping was really poor bedding linin was torn No kettle or supliments bath was dirty and outside showers have not been cleaned for use. Service at the bar area was also shocking - very slow and clearly cocktails not a speciality. i will not recommend a stay over.
Review 86:the food was of high quality the restuarant staff friendly and efficient i'd recommend this restuarant to friends for a Sunday lunch or dinner. the venue, location and scenery awesome.
Review 87:Staff in the restuarant poorly trained, did not understand the menu, service was very slow, no vegetarian options. The chef did not understand medium rare, all steaks were well done.. The food and restaurant service must improve if you are too retain your 5 star status.
Review 88:Location is superb, only 45 minutes outside JHB, we felt we were in another country, loved the clean air and wide spaces, will come here again provided the restaurant food and service improves.
Review 89:The turn down staffer and cleaning staff are efficient but a bit too effusive sometimes, no answer often means out or unavailable. I'd appreciate wider bar menu.
Review 90:Pretty much everything!
Review 91:We went for a neck and back massage during the day, however we did not sleep well, as the pillows were too stiff and hard. Needless to say that all the neck spasms that the spa staff massaged out, were all back the next day due to the pillows we slept on.
Review 92:While we were there, we realized that we did not pack any snacks for the room later in the evening. the Chef and staff made up an midnight feast plate filled with chocolate mousse delights. It was very special, and thank you.
Review 93:That we couldn't stay longer!
Review 94:The deluxe superior sweet was lovely and spacious and very peaceful - wonderful bathroom. Dinner was excellent - the best meal that we have had in a very long time, hats off to the chef!
Review 95:The service we received was appalling. The staff carried on as if they are doing you a favour. The reception lady seemed to think we were 1st time travelers who among other things seemed to think we didn’t even know how the room key worked. The service at the bar was much to be desired, we may as well have served ourselves. The service did not meet the Lodges 5 star status!!!
Review 96:Breathtaking scenery and food was good.
Review 97:it was a cold weekend and a very cold room. Very mean with allocation of gas heater, specially between 7am and 9am. Contrary to what they say in room info. Difficult to turn heater on.
Review 98:The majestic setting. Friendly staff. large rooms the function we attended was very god .
Review 99:I booked a weekend away for my husbands birthday. I let them know we were coming from Botswana and booked our spa treatments accordingly. The border was a bit busy but I kept in contact and let them know we were running a bit behind, when we arrived I asked reception to please phone the spa and let them know we were checking in (about 5 min late) and to ask them to give us 5-10 min just to put our bags in the room and come down, we were told NO and that we had to come immediately! For a 5 star accommodation, the grounds were quite dirty, our outside shower was full of leaves which hadn't been cleaned even though they knew we were checking in.They must of had a function on the friday because there were still rubbish and cutlery laying on the floor and this was at 4:30pm, really the whole day just to clean something up?On our way to the room there was dirty ear-buds and papers laying on the walkway, needless to say this was still there 2 days later when we checked out.Our fridge wasn't working and nor did the hot-water tap on the bath work, we phoned to get it fixed and to stock it for us but this was not done.We had to phone again the following day and then they fixed the fridge but didn't stock it! Again we had to phone and ask, The bath was still not fixed by the time we checked out.In the information book in your room they tell you there is a range of Dvd's you can rent, but this is at R200 per dvd deposit and it is only for kids. They also tell you that they have a range of board games you can get from reception but when you ask they tell you that there are pieces missing from all the games and that it's a waste of time, surely with a 5 star you should replace broken or lost games? Should these not be checked when returned from guests and a fee added to the account for misuse?
Review 100:The staff really tried to accommodate to the best of there ability. It's peaceful and quiet The spa facilities are quite nice.
Review 101:Room was old and aircon & gas fireplace were not functioning - we complained and were then upgraded to a family room, which was much better - good response by the staff but totally unnecessary as it wasted our time and took away from the special occasion - if maintenance of the room was up to scratch.
Review 102:Location - close to JHB Responsiveness of staff Food
Review 103:Unfortunately the rooms were not clean and linen was not of good quality [old] SPA: Staff not friendly Very noisy in spa Equipment not working properly Message was of poor quality - Lights not dimmed during sap treatment, no music during spa treatment
Review 104:The Location was great Reception staff and Restaurant staff was great, great service.
Review 105:Absolutely nothing!
Review 106:The staff are super professional and accommodating. Thank you to Tumi at Reservation Desk and Siyabonga at reception. Such gems, professional. The food was great. This was the 3rd time there. We just love the place. We hiked with the kids this time around. Divine! Supreme relaxation. The family room was perfectly set up and the location, just perfect.
Review 107:Room service stuff community my into the room without knocking.
