Reviews for Salt Lake Plaza Hotel at Temple Square
Review 1:All was good.
Review 2:Location is easy to find and reach, easy parking. Friendly staff. Connected with a restaurant, small gifts store. We stayed here 2nd time within a year.
Review 3:Just wish we could get a glass of wine in the hotel. It is a dry spot.
Review 4:Hotel very clean, close to every thing we wanted to see. People were so friendly. The restaurant that was attached had a wonderful breakfast. Very tasty, and big portions...great for a growing boy!!
Review 5:Everything was convienent and clean. I like that there is a sink w/mirror and light outside of the bathroom so I could get ready while my husband showered.
Review 6:Room on the small side and old aircon system right on the floor by the bed there for I didn't use it. Entrance of the hotel is confusing, not clear from the street. Lobby looks like that of a retirement home not of a hotel.
Review 7:Location is very good. Bed comfortable. Friendly staff. Free airport shuttle.
Review 8:It's not what we did not like but what could maybe be added to make it perfect. A grooming mirror (enlarging) in the bathroom for doing one's make up.
Review 9:The Staff was very helpful and the shuttle driver even went out of his way to drive us to the theater because it was raining. My husband and I have visited this specific Hotel every two years for the past 30 years and it has always been the right choice. The standard has remained continuously satisfactory.
Review 10:The desk help in the morning seemed mad that I asked for help. There wasn't enough hot water for showers
Review 11:The location was great for what we wanted. Be able to park in a secure location.
Review 12:Nothing.
Review 13:Really good localization. Right beside Temple Square, in a short walking distance to all downtown attractions, shopping, in front of the tram stop of Temple Square (it's just across the street), which is perfect when coming from e to the airport. The hotel itself is also good, I stayed in small but nice room with a nice bathroom. Amenities were fine, coffee maker, fridge, TV working well, so all things I could wait from a nice hotel I could find there. I'd definitely recommend it.
Review 14:Facilities were old and undersized for the money. Beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. Heater was blowing cold air all night. Room directly across from the elevators and any time others were coming or going it sounded as if they were standing in the room with us.
Review 15:Perfect location
Review 16:Shower difficult to operate and water pressure very tempramental. Requested glasses for wine, but were told the hotel could not provide any. (We expected that the fact that an ice bucket and ice machine are provided would mean that glasses could be obtained.)
Review 17:Nice size room, handy extra basin separate from the bathroom, fridge in room, ice machine in hallway, clean and comfortable. Good location. Excellent value for money. Staff stored our large baggage for us in a storage room.
Review 18:The one thing I don't like is your blanket-comforter, it feels like a mattress pad rather than a comforter. I'd prefer something a little softer.
Review 19:I love the downtown location, right next to the Temple, Trax, Abravenal Halll, the Planetarium, City Creek Mall, Etc. I also like the JB's restaurant brunch and salad bar. You are a great place for the price.
Review 20:The parking was difficult in a large vehical. There was just a few spots for large vehicals. They were filled with small cars.
Review 21:Nice location and clean. Some fo the staff was great. Others seemed stuffy.
Review 22:The cleaning staff was not very helpful. I was trying to get into my room that I had just checked out of because I left my phone in there accidentally. I went to the front desk before going up and they gave me a temporary key to get in to get my phone. The key wasn't working. I asked a cleaning woman to help me get in and she wouldn't. She kept telling me to go to the front desk. I kept telling her that is what I did and the key wasn't working. She refused to help me. For a last-ditch effort, I tried the key again and it worked. Additionally, my key for the room stopped working the night before I checked out. It would not open the door. Thankfully my husband was in the room and he let me in. (Room 611)
Review 23:The location was wonderful. The rooms were very comfortable. The view was beautiful. This was my mother-in-laws first time seeing both snow and Temple Square. The view and ambiance couldn't have been more magical and cozy.
Review 24:It is a great property - happens to be very close to the concert we were attending. I especially like the location with regards to everything that is going on in the area!
Review 25:I love the location but city staff had left turns blocked which made getting to our hotel after a long day even longer. It would be nice to have a couple entrance options to parking but I can't complain because the events around it are in the heart of the city and the reason we come. I also wish they had a breakfast option but again no worries.
Review 26:Such a fun spot for visiting especially during the holidays. We come every year and love to stay here.
Review 27:A Continental breakfast would be nice. JB's has an ideal location, but the quality of food makes it so we never plan on eating there as part of our stay. I'm not sure how to spell his name, but Jorje was a delight, and the best part of the meal we did eat there.
Review 28:Our room was originally booked in 602 - a very disappointing room. Your people were very nice about upgrading our room to make it equal to what we were paying, and equal to a room we had originally booked at another hotel. Thank you!!
Review 29:The only thing that would have made a difference would have been if the bathroom door,(when closed) could have been wiped down... Truly no big deal, but I've worked in house cleaning and it's something that probably shouldn't have been missed. Although the staff that came in to clean after the first night did a great job! Kudos
Review 30:Wonderful visit! The staff was great, in spite of my friend and his really dumb jokes. The staff took it well and kept on smiling
Review 31:Breakfast would be nice. Even a simple one would be fine.
Review 32:Location was awesome! We were able walk everywhere we wanted to go around Temple Square and the City Center.
Review 33:Overall it was fine - our coffee and water was not refilled at all which was a drag - when we asked the front desk they said they didn't have any water. With no stores close by (gift shop was closed) and no room service it was very inconvenient.
Review 34:Would have liked a sink outside of the bathroom so we both could get ready at the same time.
Review 35:Location was across the street from the Salt Palace. So, we easily made it on time for the TOFW event.
Review 36:Next to the elevator which I heard off and on most of the night. Early morning delivery truck beeping below our window. Awake at 3:30 AM. Restaurant was to open at 6 am but did not open until after 7. Heater so noisy that we shut it down.
Review 37:Close to the Temple which was our purpose of staying. Able to leave the car parked until we left in the afternoon.
Review 38:Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Room was also nice with comfortable bed. Good location as not far from the airport on the train and it arrives right outside the hotel. Downtown is minutes away. Enjoyed my stay!
Review 39:The taxes on the room came out to be about 22%!
Review 40:The location was fantastic. It is right next to Temple Square and directly in front of a tram stop. Shopping is less than a block away. The rooms very very clean with a nice view of the city.
Review 41:Very sad that I couldnt open the window doors to let in a breeze and fresh air. Had to use the horrible air conditioner / noisy and smelly
Review 42:The swimming pool, the library, the gift shop, proximity to Temple Square
Review 43:The first room they gave us had dirty towel hanging on bathroom door & garbage in can. They gave us a clean, bigger room, which he could have done in the first place for the 4 of us. Also no breakfast is a minus.
Review 44:Location downtown & across from temple square.
Review 45:Stopper for bathtub fell out of tub so only shower worked. Told staff but it took 3 days for them to fix it.
Review 46:Location excellent for genealogy library.
Review 47:We reported seeing a few bugs in the drapesand towels which instead of panicking, my husband killed them and threw in trash. We reported at checkout since we stayed only a day. Were told by the site supervisor/manager that this is a common occurrence at the hotel and we could have just called so the bugs can be sprayed. We were surprised because of potential health and safety. Also hot tub did not work even after maintenance came to check it out. Did not use it.
Review 48:Staff were very friendly , helpful .
Review 49:I like to have some fresh air - but the sliding door did not open to small balcony... Would loved to have had that option.
Review 50:Great location & view! Room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 51:guest rooms poorly-ventilated. Windows/sliding balcony doors cannot be opened, bathroom exhaust system appears inoperable.
Review 52:Location is great for walking around downtown, esp. Temple Square. Staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, quick to assist with specific questions or requests.
Review 53:The mattress was s little too hard for our liking. We had an unexpected parking fee of $5
Review 54:Beautiful room, gorgeous view, great feeling in the hotel. The staff was nice enough to let us stay on the top floor so we had a wonderful view of the city. You can see so much from the 13the floor.
Review 55:Room was very small, paid less money for a room twice as big in Moab. You're paying for location here, not space or comfort.
Review 56:Nice staff, bed was comfy
Review 57:Surprised there wasn't a bar and the restaurant although in the hotel wasn't run by them.
Review 58:The location to the main area was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.
Review 59:Outside looked dated but inside was great.
Review 60:Very nice clean comfortable rooms, best location for convention center for sure, great service and affordable.
Review 61:The lighting in the hallways was a little dim and the lobby was dated.
Review 62:The rate we booked didn't include breakfast, but there was a connected restaurant with great Yelp reviews. There was a rail station in front of the hotel that went straight to the airport or pretty much anuwjere else for $2.50. It was a short walk from everything!
Review 63:The location was excellent and the hotel was very comfortable. Although breakfast was not provided there was an excellent diner attached to the hotel.
Review 64:Pool is tiny and not the nicest, the jacuzzi didn't work, the staff gave us keys to wrong room which someone else was already staying in
Review 65:Good location
Review 66:The hotel was a bit dated and the room was a bit small, but we weren't in the room much anyway. It was a bit weird that there was no night stand or small table next to one side of the bed (there was one on one side, but not the other), which was a bit inconvenient.
Review 67:Excellent location! Right across from Temple Square, within walking distance of many restaurants and shops, and right on the train/tram line. Also the staff was really helpful, which we appreciated.
Review 68:The ventilation of the bathroom was very poor. The acoustic isolation was also very poor: the noise of the water installations of our room and of neighbouring rooms was so high that we woke up several times during the night.
Review 69:The location (close to the LDS temple) is excellent
Review 70:I had booked a king room and was given a room with two queen beds. I didn't care enough to go back down to reception to raise the issue though, so I can't complain. It was great overall.
Review 71:The location was great, the bed was comfortable, the room was comfortable and clean and there were no problems at any point during the stay.
Review 72:First room was very tiny. Had requested being near another couple. Did not happen. After a rather uncomfortable first night, did finally get a good sized room and a discount on the first night. We ended up satisfied.
Review 73:Location and some excellent staff. Restaurant was very good for breakfast.
Review 74:Knew I was in trouble as soon as I got a whiff of the lobby. Had that old dated hotel smell. Wasn't surprised when I got home from dinner and not one but both elevators were out of service - had to climb 11 flights of stairs.
Review 75:Location - that's it.
Review 76:Selection of easy to go breakfast items was disappointing. But we made due.
Review 77:Friendly staff. We arrived very late for check in and were able to quickly get into our room and to bed.
Review 78:The location was very good...we were attending a convention at the Salt Palace and were able to just walk across the street. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 79:No provided breakfast, but restaurant was very good.
Review 80:perfect location across from convention center, next to genealogy building and right on the tram line with a stop right in front of the building.
Review 81:-The location is great. It's exactly at the Temple Square station, easy to get access to/from the airport. -The front desk staff is extremely hot!
Review 82:Location to church buildings and Ancestry library. Free tram right outside Room had great view out to the mountains Each level had a hall view to the temple etc
Review 83:Great location, beautiful , older hotel. Friendly helpful staff, large, clean, comfortable room & bed. Restaurant on site with good food & reasonable prices. Would eagerly stay again & highly recommend .
Review 84:Jacuzzi not working at pool area. Fitness room had very little equipment.
Review 85:Location close to temple square. Close to shops and tram line. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 86:Charged $1 for in-room safe, which I didn't use. Beautiful view was marred by a dirty window, which could not be opened. Otherwise, a great value for the rate paid.
Review 87:All the large and small in-room conveniences: refrigerator, ironing board, safe, soap dish, third sheet...not to mention the superb location.
Review 88:For the price of the room was a little disappointed that breakfast was not included. Other than that there was nothing I didn't like
Review 89:Lovely modern clean hotel. Excellent location for exploring the city. Rooms are big and clean, with TV fridge and microwave. good parking facilities on site at $5 per day
Review 90:When we entered our room there was luggage in the room. Turned out the people that were in there had booked a bigger room and they had left there luggage there while going to the front desk. They came back with a key to get there luggage with no hotel staff accompanying them!
Review 91:I had an encounter with a mentally ill person in the bathroom near the lobby before I even checked in. While the rooms were non-smoking, the smell of stale smoke was all around. Guests were loud and obnoxious in the hallway at 6:30 am. Room was okay except for the stale smoke smell. The hotel lobby and hallways seemed a bit old. Great location though.
Review 92:If you are in SLC to see the temple square, you can't get closer than this hotel.
Review 93:1. Room was stuffy because i couldntt open the sliding glass dpor. 2. I called ahead for the same room I had last year. Was assured I could have it and then was given a romantic on a lower floor overlooking condtruction. 3. The maid kept trying to clean my room every 10 minutes even thought I put out the do not disturb sign. 4. Found a $1 charge per day on my bill for the room safe that I didn't use or ask for. Times the # of rooms, that's quite a tidy sum! Was told if not charged insurance wouldn't have paid a claim for lost items.
Review 94:Location
Review 95:They made check in very friendly. Then, we had to cancel two rooms due to people not coming and they were so very reasonable and helpful and courteous. Excellent customer service
Review 96:I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a hot continental breakfast. ...
Review 97:Salt Lake Plaza was one of the best places I stayed and I do allot of traveling for work but this time it was for fun with my family. You've had some bad reviews about bed bugs but I tried it anyways. ... no bugs for me. ...
Review 98:Floor was not vaccumed thoroughly!
Review 99:Awesome! Beds comfotable, pool closes at 10, and JB's restaurant bottom floor served an amazing breakfast buffet for a reasonable prize too.
Review 100:The Hot Tub was never working for the 2 1/2 days we stayed there. Some confusion among hotel staff as to why or how long before "Repaired and refilled." Also, no hotel access from parking garage except ground floor. So when full and you parked on 3rd or 4th floor, you had to walk down to 1st floor to get back in hotel.
Review 101:Location was our first priority so we could attend the "Spoken word" by just walking a few blocks. Very nice restaurant in hotel. Beautiful views out the hallway windows. Great breakfast at hotel restaurant, but no discount for being a guest.
Review 102:The check-in process was very very unpleasant. When we got there at 8 pm, there was nobody at the front desk. I had to press the bell and waited for couple of minutes. Then a guy who wore denim jacket greeted us. He look really confused after checking my ID and confirmation letter. He asked me: "is it possible that some of your party had already checked in?" I said NO, there are only three of us, and we just get here. He explained nothing and still look suspicious when he tried to make the door keys. It took him more than 10 minutes to set up the door keys (you need to do that through a machine that apparently he didn't know how to deal with ). Finally we were all set, and we went to Room 1212, and when I open the door, I saw the luggage and hats. WHAT'S GOING ON?! Somebody is living in this room and he gave me the key!! I had to leave my parents and luggage at 12th floor and went back to front desk. Before I was about to complain, the guy stopped me by saying "I know" and continued to discussing the issue with the other guy named Tod. He showed me the signature the guests put in my confirmation which includes all my personal information. I believe they did not really check your passport or ID, because I know the guests who stayed in 1212 do not have the same name as I do. However, the guy just kept defensing himself by saying "I didn't check them in, so I don't know" or "I know there is an issue but I fixed it". He didn't even apologize until I was really angry and pointed it out. More importantly, he said "yes if you want to complain, here is the name card". See? They welcome my complaints, but their manager will not come in until 7 am in the next day morning! Next day I complained to the manager, she was very nice and willing to listen and help. She said the guy was new so he would get more training (hopefully yes) and offered a discount.
Review 103:he location is good, very close to the temple square.
Review 104:The queen room was clearly intended for a single occupant - single bedside table and light, coffee for one, poor storage space, and no room in the bathroom for toiletries. The aircon unit was next to the bed and was very noisy, but as soon as it turned off, the room became intolerably stuffy. We slept very badly both nights. Moral - choose a larger room for two, but they shouldn't advertise this as a double. Overall, we were very disappointed, especially as we had had a perfectly good visit there 5 years ago.
Review 105:The hotel is the ideal location right on Temple Square, next to the Family History Library. That was worth a trip to Salt Lake City in itself.
Review 106:Room was quite small. Girl at front desk not friendly or helpful. Next morning, fellow at front desk not knowledgeable.
Review 107:Location right next door to Temple Square.
Review 108:The infrastructure is aging - the amount of hot water available to theshower was difficult to regulate, it required a very strong pull to turnthe water on. When there was difficulty with our safe it took close toan hour for maintenance to show up to open it (which was actually a veryquick process). The hotel guest prior to us had placed a lock on thephone which the hotel had not removed when they left, meaning anyone whocalled us could not get through (but we didn't know theycouldn't).
Review 109:The location directly beside the Family History Library and directlyacross the street from Temple Square is superb. The front desk staff waspleasant and helpful with nearby spots to eat. The shuttle driver waspleasant and got me to the airport promptly.
Review 110:It was,not a bad experience but I think guests should be informed ahead of time as to the size if a room with one, queen bed. There was not enough space for 2 suitcases without using the desk top and then moving the one chair out by the door. To get out the door you had to move the chair! Also there was no available info on the public transportation or routemspsystem which is crazy since Uta Trax is right across from the hotel!
Review 111:Not a bad experience, but too bad that all of the hotels have to jack their prices up so high during convention weeks...
Review 112:We loved being so close to The Salt Palace, shopping, Temple Square and the light rail.
Review 113:No contintental breakfast.
Review 114:We were there for 2 nights. The staff was night, there's a cool little gift shop and it's convenient to public transportation. There's no continental breakfast, but there is a connected resturaunt that serves a Breakfast Buffet for a bout $8 that's not too bad.
Review 115:Wish they had breakfast facilities on site. There is a JB's right by the hotel, but a free breakfast would be ever so nice
Review 116:We've had no bad experiences in this hotel, located in such a convenient place. Within walking distance of the new City Creek Mall, the Temple grounds and all of downtown
Review 117:Changed room once because of poor location and facilities. 2nd room had similar faults like room safe would not work. Television would not work. Bath tub would not hold water. Maintenance guy in room for 45 minutes to carry out repairs at 2230 hrs.
Review 118:There were a couple of issues with our request of connecting rooms and the hot tub was malfunctioning, but the staff stuck with it and were very helpful in finding a resolution. We had to vacate the hot tub, but the maintenance technician was very friendly :) Walking distance to the ESA (if the weather is good). The breakfast buffet next door is amazing!!
Review 119:The path from parking garage to room with no elevator and lugging luggage from garage to hotel elevator. Room very small, but we weren't in it long.
Review 120:location close to center of town so that we could visit temple square.
Review 121:JB's Restaurant (on site) breakfast buffet is OK, but weekend buffet and OJ for 2 was $30. A bit much for the variety of food. Weekdays are cheaper.
Review 122:Check in and out was quick. Staff very friendly. 24-Hour parking pass for only $5! Updated decor to older building is pleasant.
Review 123:We didn't like the security guard who kept looking at us whenever we exited or entered the lobby.
Review 124:The location of the hotel was amazing. Downtown salt lake is some thing special to locals like ourselves.
Review 125:No coffee in the lobby. Can do with better coffee and creamer in the room. The wending machine and the ice machine in the hallway (outside my room) could have been more quiet. Tho the front desk offered to change my room but once all the stuff is unpacked... it a pain to pack again just to change the room.
Review 126:We were there for 2 days and did not use our car at all. We walked everywhere and took the free street car available right outside the hotel. Absolutely helpful staff.
Review 127:The door to the balcony was screwed shut and the a/c was locked so it wouldn't go below 68 degrees. We woke up hot in the middle of the Night and couldn't open the door, even though it was 50 degrees outside. We should have requested a fan but did not want to call the staff at 3am.
Review 128:The location is perfect! Right in between city center, temple square, and the Gateway mall. The beds were great!
Review 129:Awesome front desk staff - very helpful and knowledgeable. Comfy rooms (stayed twice in the past two weeks), decent wi-fi. Took advantage of the complimentary shuttle from SLC.
Review 130:Front desk staff was very rude. Room was supposed to be $79. We ended up being charged $98 by the time they added all the "fees" and had to pay $10 for parking on top of the $5 they add to your room. The room was right next to the elevator and was very loud and also next to the ice machine with people screaming all night long and running down the hall. Will never stay here again
Review 131:The bed was comfortable and room was clean
Review 132:First day with checking-in desk staff was kind of clueless and missed essential information that would have been very helpful to our stay. But the next few days staff changed and front desk service was great.
Review 133:Loved my room and proximity to library and sights
Review 134:In-room lighting could have been better, and our queen room should have had two bedside tables, not one, as there was space for two.
Review 135:Great location for our purposes, clean, quiet, and with courteous, responsive staff.
The Fine Print
