Reviews for Magic Beach Motel - Saint Augustine
Review 1:Room (120) was small, bed sheet was a little rough, shower tiny, no parking spot in lot.
Review 2:Pool, retro-look of buildings, rooms were newly refurbished, right at beach, quiet area, eateries within walking distance.
Review 3:The location is awesome, the room was very comfortable, given that it is a "beach motel", the staff was very friendly and helpful and I felt like we received tremendous value for our money. The walk to the beach is very short and we were able to drive to the historic area in minutes. We are definitely coming back.
Review 4:Pillows and bed were uncomfortable. Needs new beds and better pillows. Didn't sleep well.
Review 5:Location is great and very quiet. Just a short walk to the beach and restaurants.
Review 6:We were expecting a room with a view of the beach,. Didn't happen. We were ok with the accommodations that we had.
Review 7:you can walk to the Publix for groceries and other great stores. The friendliness of the young lady at the desk.
Review 8:Nothing bad here
Review 9:To many pros here. Super close to beach, grocery store, down town. Very clean and very friendly staff. Great price, quiet and safe area, great kitschy atmosphere. Will absolutely be back
Review 10:This place was Awesome! Beautiful original art muralso on the walls gave a sense of outdoors Florida Everglades. Love the use of colors and furniture. Pool was awesome and the beach a 3 minute walk. We would go back in a heart beat!
Review 11:The TV in the second bedroom did not work the first night. And I thought our rooms would have the Florida murals on the wall, but it did not, apparently only some of the rooms are painted.
Review 12:WE liked the whole "Art Deco Look" it was very retro. I think for the price it was a good deal. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 13:The shower didn't drain and there was a crawling bug on floor of bathroom.
Review 14:Location was good. We wanted to be near the beach and it was located near by. The staff was friendly.
Review 15:I really enjoyed the retro lights but I liked the personality of the owners most of all. And being able to walk to the beach makes it even better. Great time
Review 16:It was not a bad experience, but there were negatives, which I detailed above. When/if recommending this motel to others, I would be sure to let them know of these issues.
Review 17:Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Loved art deco. Access to ocean, restaurants, food store was excellent. Bed mattresses were extremely comfortable. Bathroom was large with walk-in shower. Air conditioning was good, but room felt and smelled musty. Continental breakfast was good, but boiled eggs sat in a bowl at room temperature. Although I enjoyed the facility, the stove and some kitchen cookware needed to be washed before use (greasy with food residue). The twin bed sheet did not fit and came loose immediately. Was no problem getting a queen sized sheet the next morning. There was an intermittent smell of sewer gas in the room (which could have been caused by dry traps, the renovation process, etc.). The lighting in the room was poor. With all this said, I would consider staying there again, as the good points (atmosphere, location, staff, cost) outweighed the bad.
Review 18:It's a good location with the beach. Also has a Publix and other restaurants. This place is a work in progress as the owners are trying to renovate and bring it back to the original settings.
Review 19:Thinking price could be 15-20% less and it'd be a go back for certain.
Review 20:Location - excellent. Cleaning crew (woman) - sweet. Pool - clean. Bed - comfortable.
Review 21:Parking & lock on door didn't feel real safe with that lock!
Review 22:The service & friendly staff! The cleanliness of our room! The free breakfast & coffee!
Review 23:This is a perfectly laid back community, just steps to the ocean. It was very clean, and staff was friendly. We will happily stay here again and are looking forward to the next time.
Review 24:Woman checking us kept us waiting while chatting on the phone with an employee. Rooms are very basic, bare bones. Kitchen had 1 spoon, no forks and many butter knives.
Review 25:This area was great. Easy walk to the beach and restaurants.Motel had a very charming look, pool was clean, rooms were clean and the 2 bedrooms were perfect for families. Enough plates and cups in kitchen for 4 people.
Review 26:Older style bathroom has limited space to place toiletries and to hang towels.
Review 27:Very quite AC unit, very clean. Convenient to the beach.Very nice staff.
Review 28:pillows very thin, blanket scratchy. Room was kind of tight. (regular king room)
Review 29:location to Vilano Beach. Decor is charming. Like the vintage look.
Review 30:The bathroom was pretty small, and the furnishings somewhat dated. I feel more comfortable in a room where the bed is covered with a duvet. I feel those get washed, where comforters give me a "creepy feeling."
Review 31:We really liked the "mom and pop" feel of the place, and its uniqueness. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pool area was kept clean, and was very nice.
Review 32:Nothing
Review 33:i told them ahead of check in that it was our wedding annivers. 20 yrs. they had roses and hearts and a happy anniversary sign waiting in our room. I tried to tip them later for their generosity but they wouldn't consider it. Cool retro place with nice family owners. Steps to the beach.
Review 34:View of ocean was severely limited by a taller hotel obscuring most of the view.
Review 35:Room with large balcony facing the ocean. Jacuzzi tub plus shower was nice. Beautiful stained glass window in the bathroom.
Review 36:Breakfast was no frills continental, but good appetizer before going out and getting a serious sit down breakfast
Review 37:Perfect location, less than 1 min from beach, the rooms were very clean. The staff was super friendly & knowledgeable about area i.e. transportation and where to eat.
Review 38:Not too much negative to report.
Review 39:The proximity to Vilano Beach is ridiculous - a 2-minute walk and you can feel the Atlantic Ocean mist on your face. The room was very clean, the bed comfy, and the kitchenette had everything we needed. Walking distance to a grocery store and restaurants, too.
Review 40:Not having a mirror besides the small one above the bathroom sink. No broom to sweep up sand or at least a rug to put sandy flip flops on.
Review 41:Walking right out to the beach.
Review 42:This is not really a complaint, but something to share. Back when this motel was built big bathrooms were not the norm. And that is the case here. The bathrooms are small. And the shower is really small. I guess to keep with the authenticity of the age of the motel they chose not to expand them. Again, not a complaint, just something folks should know.
Review 43:I really liked the overall retro look and feel of this motel. Unlike most motels from the 50's that are now old and rundown, the Magic Beach Motel has embraced it's age and uses it to sell itself. I loved the neon flamingos, the neon rabbits, the 50's beachy decor. It is fun and quirky. I normally stay in hotels so I was a little skeptical when we booked this motel. But other reviews said it was nice. And it was. I was super suprised at the level of cleanliness. I thought old and retro would mean not so clean. But this place is spotless. And "motel" instead of "hotel" makes me think noisy. Not so at the Magic Beach Motel. Built back in the day with solid block means absolutley NO noise from the rooms next door. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 44:having to move two days in stay told to make move whenever, but unable to for hours till room or staff were ready need a table in bathroom next to sink no Counter to Put anything.
Review 45:stain glass window in bath kitchen was fine bed was fine
Review 46:The clerk at the desk was a little grouchy. Maybe all of the construction was getting to her.
Review 47:They were putting in new pavers in the parking area, so the owner upgraded us to another hotel across the street. Wonderful stay with a view of the beach from our balcomy. Both motels 50 yards or less to the beach.
Review 48:Had some problems with the Wi-Fi but that's not to important
Review 49:the look of the rooms were great. Yes it was small but it was comfy and I loved the bathrooms
Review 50:Had a sore back from the soft bed. Room was a little cramped.
Review 51:The location was 5 minutes walking distance to the beach. Nearby restaurant was excellent. Good value for money in this area.
Review 52:We loved the murals in the room and the Art Deco design of the place. The red neon at night was very cool. It's right on the beach and very quiet as it's located away from town about 5 mins. Nice place to retreat to and enjoy some peace and quiet after the busy day in the downtown district. The bed was very comfortable, ice cold ac, mini fridge, flat screen tv and a nice free breakfast. Can't beat the place for the price! Clean and friendly staff. Would stay again for sure!
Review 53:Very comfortable accommodations and has the benefit of being very close to the beach while having easy 5-7 minute access to the city. The trolley folks will even pick you up and bring you home after a very informative open-air trolley tour! Very clean with a comfortable bed. There is a Publix and other services in the area although the area generally has the feel of a beach resort and as mentioned, removed from the bustle of the city.
Review 54:Heated pool wasn't wa enough to swim in; breakfast could have had a bit better food; no bathtub (but bathroom though small was clean and modern.
Review 55:wonderful murals on walls, 2 separate bedrooms, small kitchenette yet big enough for meals in, one block from beach, big grocery store and short walk to good restaurants
Review 56:Nothing bad to report just the TV location inside the 2 room suite inside the door is a bad spot...
Review 57:We like staying here because it's clean and close to the beach and St Augustine!!!
Review 58:Staff was very nice. The room very clean. It is a block from the beach and walking distance to restaurants. Plus we had one of the rooms with a view of the ocean. We will stay her again.
Review 59:We had a wonderful time. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The décor was nice. The kitchen had granite countertops and was well equipped. The staff was very nice. We will definitely come back!
Review 60:The futon that was in the room was very uncomfortable. We did not need it so it was not an issue, but i could not imagine having to use it.
Review 61:We chose the room with the spa bath and kitchenette. After a long day of seeing the sites and a lot of walking, it was great to have a nice hot soak to relax and reinvigorate. I do recommend considering this upgrade to anyone that plans on walking the historic district during their stay. The room met all of our needs, will book here again.
Review 62:Didn't get to stay long enough!!! Not their fault!
Review 63:Motor court Heaven! A piece of the past, well taken care of! Quiet location away from the bustle of St. Augustine. Owners were so very kind and conscience of the surroundings.
Review 64:This is a classic pink flamingo Florida motel with refurbished rooms. Clean and very comfortable. A stone's throw from the beach and minutes walk to Vilano Beach Town Center shops and restaurants. Very affordable for the location.
Review 65:Only issue, we didn't have any way to wash the coffee pot and cups, and the maid didn't either.
Review 66:The closeness to the beach, the price, the cleanliness, comfort. Easy, short drive to the Historical District of St. Augustine. Well keep outside of the motel.
Review 67:We ordered a room with a spa bath, cost thirty extra dollars. The bath was kind of tiny, barely could fit the two of us. "continental" breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs, cereal, bagels and yogurt.
Review 68:Me and the boyfriend stayed overnight to see the sights of st Augustine. Beautiful cozy rooms. Loved the wall murals of orcas. Great balcony with ocean view. Nice big comfy bed. Room was spotless and had everything we needed.
Review 69:Windows don't open, bad design choice
Review 70:Room 201 was newly renovated Nice size balcony with ocean view Beach less than 100 yards Generous breakfast buffet Waterfront restaurant with good drinks quarter mile away Publix one block if you want to cook
Review 71:I called ahead to see if I could drop off some supplies for the roomprior to the day of the wedding, the staff was very excited for us andhelped me get everything set up. I literally just dropped off a bag witha note of instructions and they did exactly what I asked. I started topanic a little when I realized I had forgotten champagne flutes, butapparently they noticed too. When we walked into the room they had gonethe extra mile to place some cute plastic flutes near the fridge! We had a great night and check out was easy too. Will definitely return. Thank you so much for the extra help!
Review 72:pool area was not kept up sort of sloppy.
Review 73:bed was very good, breakfast was what we expected, It was a blast from the past. walking distance to beach, grocery store near by.
Review 74:Bed uncomfortable but otherwise ok. We had requested a baby crib at reservation and at arrival where told this was the first time every somebody requested this.
Review 75:Location close to the beach, nice pool
Review 76:Breakfast is free but minimal. Kitchen was too narrow.
Review 77:Great location for the price - walk to the beach 1/2 block away. Kitschy decor was fun - added to a vacation mood. King bed was great.
Review 78:Wifi was undependable. Bathrooms are small. Not enough not to come back though.
Review 79:Cute Motel. Beds were comfy. Great location convenient to a full size grocery, several restaurants and an easy trip to St. Augustine.
Review 80:I have not been back to Saint Augustine in 20 years and it was just like I remebered it. great palce to take family and enjoy the beach, food and just relax. Great Job St. Augustine! Dont change a thing.
Review 81:Loud group of people staying a few doors down and nobody seemed to notice but us. The room very comfortable and ALMOST was quiet enough to drown out the loud conversations. We didn't complain so I can't blame management for not doing anything about the rowdy neighbors. I'd happily stay here again though. Good was better than the bad.
Review 82:The style of the place was great. Very clean and comfortable. The bed was great. Very convenient to St Augustine with easy beach access.
Review 83:I absolutely love the retro-style look of the hotel with neon lighting! I love that the prices are very reasonable, considering you're just a couple hundred feet from the sand on the beach! The atmosphere in the room and near the vicinity of the hotel is calm and serene! I also absolutely love the outside deck of room 203 and how it wraps semi around the building! It's a great, relaxing place to read or meditate!
Review 84:Limited parking but not that bad.
Review 85:I loved the woman checking us in. She was very sweet. The room had such a calming feel to it. I reserved the jacuzzi room with the ocean view and I swear I could fall asleep on the balcony listening to the waves crash at night. Very clean. They have continental breakfast as well. Definitely would stay again!
Review 86:Low water pressure in the small shower.
Review 87:Very close to the beach - we could carry our chairs, umbrella, & other stuff without a problem. Walking distance to Publix.
Review 88:Dated and small room for price. Our traveling companions had an extra "guest" in their room. One of Florida's palmetto bugs....I reported it to the front desk. Not sure if they were that concerned about it.
Review 89:Close to all areas of interest. Staff was pleasant.
Review 90:Only one ice machine and it was outside by the office. Not all rooms pet friendly.
Review 91:Loved the location, mural on the wall was cute. Even though there was a skim boarding competition and the motel was full, it was still quiet. Everyone was very considerate of their neighbors.
Review 92:The husband is 6'3" .... Maybe the owners could swap out the shower heads with the adjustable extension bar type. I'm only 5'6" and the water was hitting me at shoulder level also. Other than that.... Zero complaints!
Review 93:Excellent location away from all the busy traffic and hustle and bustle of the historic district. We did travel to St Aug to visit those places we just didn't want to be right in the middle of it the entire time. You can see all the sites and be a tourist for the day then head back to the magic beach and feel like your sleeping at home in your own bed. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. 2 min walk to the beach and park right at your front door. I was nervous after I booked this room and was debating if I should cancel my reservation and book a room with a 'chain' hotel. But I read so many great reviews that I just went with it and I'm glad I did! Staff was awesome and very knowledgable about all the local places to see and eat at. An awesome plus that your $ is going to a small business owner and not to line some corporate guys pocket. There is no place like home....unless you stay at Magic Beach Motel
Review 94:Limited beach to ride beach cruisers. There is a hotel that sits between you and your view of the beach view rooms.
Review 95:I liked the cleanliness of this motel and it's location. Staff was friendly.
Review 96:Only 1 bedside table Pool located right by busy public sidewalk
Review 97:Easy access parking Friendly, helpful staff Very comfortable king bed Quiet room; no audible noise from neighbors on either side. A/C worked well for older motel
Review 98:We were checking in especially late and they were kind enough to stay up just for us! Cute little old school Florida beach motel. We will be back for sure!
Review 99:My husband and I needed a place to stay for a wedding... We waited until the last minute and the ones recommended by the wedding invite were booked. We found this little treasure and since we have adventurous souls we booked it! Art Deco can go many ways... And this one went great!!! And was literally across the street from a place that cost twice as much... One small down side, the chicky working the front desk was less than thrilled about working... I'm in the hospitality biz so maybe I'm a bit judgmental... Over all great place and I'd definitely stay again!!!
Review 100:The room had an over powering smell of bleach. The bathroom of room 205 was very large however there was no place to set your toiletries. The only shelf did not have a solid bottom so travel size items would fall through. The room was very cramped. You couldn't hear the ocean inside the room or outside in our sitting area because of the window a/c unit's noise.
Review 101:It's just steps away from the beach.
Review 102:Check in wasn't until three pm. They charged my credit card the same day I booked the room. Wifi did not work, the cable did not work. Staff was rude and short with me when I dealt with them except for the young lady working the night desk. She did help try to restore the cable in our room.
Review 103:Room cleanliness was ok.
Review 104:I slept SO good, let me start by saying that. I started to wonder what could possibly be wrong with this place and this particular beach because there were so few people but no, it was amazing. It was like a little secret I stumbled upon. I had a friend come see me spit of the moment and she said she was wondering what was going on for it not to be crowded but she too had a fantastic time and said she hadn't slept so good in a very long time. Now mind you, you aren't getting resort setting, it's a quant little CLEAN motel. A little motor court. The breakfast is served late like until 10 or 10:30. Cereal, Danishes, oatmeal, etc but it's in a larger room than many big hotels. I would highly recommend this adorable little motel.
Review 105:This was such a fun quirky little place and the staff was very nice. Maybe one of the cleanest places we ever stayed, especially given it's age. Just a few steps to the beach. We would stay here again and again.
Review 106:location location location. nice clean room very near the water, Publix across the street and 5 minutes to Old Town St Augustine.
Review 107:None
Review 108:Very close to beach and the room was clean.
Review 109:Staff very friendly
Review 110:Nothing, we juts love it!
Review 111:Love that the staff accommodated to our needs and help us made our friends wedding anniversary a complete success!
Review 112:Great location.Friendly staff.
Review 113:the rooms were terrible and the smell of mold was just to much, had to leave
Review 114:Finding parking at the Downtown was a nightmare but it was worthy
Review 115:The location it's close to almost every thing
Review 116:The room was just a picture of beauty!!! We will be back again....
Review 117:Mold in room
Review 118:Couldn't stay longer
Review 119:I love this hotel and the location in perfect for beach and the state augustine experience
Review 120:Price, proximity to beach
Review 121:I liked the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting outside our room. Breakfast was good.
Review 122:Location location, walk to the beach in just a minute or so. Hearing the ocean from the room was great.
Review 123:Too much moisture in room from humidity, needed a real dehumidifier. Bed sheets were cheap.
Review 124:Close proximity to beach for strolls, comfortable bed
