Reviews for The Viking Lodge & Ski Shop
Review 1:Walls are very thin, you can hear your neighbors talking. Wouldn't recommend the loft for 4 people - regular double room provides more space
Review 2:Love the location!!! Plenty of restaurants and bars just in walkable distance. Very pet friendly place and friendly staff. Close by to the lifts and free parking.
Review 3:Very small room, not place for luggage, IT does not have cooler nor kitchen (not communicated). The room was dirty (biológical eco system under the bed). They only change towels (so they dont clean bathroom or make your bed). Wall too thick so you listen anything. I got "The loft" two beds upstair with no place to move, no plug to charge your phone or place clothe.
Review 4:Nice staff trying to help and very Well located
Review 5:Paper thin walls. We could hear the conversation of the guests next door. Bathroom fan was very loud. Bed was lumpy and not supportive.
Review 6:The location was very convenient. Cost was reasonable.
Review 7:We arrived before high season so the hotel was very empty which was a good thing. During the day we went skiing and in the evening we played ping pong in the basement. We both had a great stay and would definitely recommend it. Owner and staff were really friendly! Room was very clean!
Review 8:Facilities are dated. Think late 60's
Review 9:Great location! On bus route to Winter Park. Walking distance to the best restaurants and shopping in Winter Park.
Review 10:This is the last place you ever want to stay!! The pictures can only bedescribed as false advertising! We arrived to find no staff to be foundanywhere! We picked up our key off the front desk and went to our room. The key was to an old fashioned keyed lock. There was no security atall into the hallways. Anyone could come in and easily get into theguest room areas at anytime. In our room we found a smell that can onlybe described as dog, mixed with old sweaty ski boots. Along with the 40year old broken furniture there was a broken smoke alarm. For ourchildren there was a loft space. The ladder to the loft was a totaldeath trap. Another problem that we found was that there was no toiletpaper in our bathroom. So on our weekend away I got to go to thegrocery store and buy toilet paper and air freshener. If you want tofeel like you have rolled around in a toilet after your stay this is agreat place!
Review 11:Nothing!!!!
Review 12:VERY expensive price, for ridiculously small, dark, and dirty accommodations. The walls were SO thin, that you could hear absolutely everything in the room next to ours, which was slightly awful since they were arguing until almost 4 am. Check in and check out was really odd, because we could never find anyone who worked there. Just an envelope with our name and room keys, and a bowl to throw them in the next day.. It was a pretty odd stay...and extremely creepy.
Review 13:The location of this hotel is perfect for summer downhill mountain biking at the ski resort.
Review 14:Wish the walls were a little thicker, was able to hear passing cars.
Review 15:The staff was great, left my phone there and the manager was extremely kind and mailed it back asap.
Review 16:Property needs clean up in the public areas. Needs paint. No room service during 4 day stay. Had to ask for things, such as soap, toilet paper, and cups. No one in office. Any thing needed after business hours of the ski shop, you are on your own.
Review 17:The room was nice. Price was very low. Good value. Excellent location. Good parking.
Review 18:not very clean (pee stain on the toilet seat, towel from the previous customer found hanging in the bathroom when we arrived)
Review 19:very well located, with a plaza and a good number of restaurants nearby. ideal for those who need a place just to sleep.
Review 20:There were no locked screens on the windows. It was very hot inside. In order to have an air flow the windows needed to be open. Forget a locked door just step in through the open windows. We took all of our valuables with us when we went out for the day. I was really displeased.
Review 21:Leaking, loose sink fixture. Tub didn't drain properly. Very hot water and hard to adjust, easily burn you. No window to view outside. Very small tv. No room service in three night stay.
Review 22:Located in a nice town, close to everything.
Review 23:its in need of a little repair (taps/fawcetts didn't work well, poor lighting)
Review 24:Outstanding value for money. Go here if you a re looking for somewhere to sleep in a fantastic location and not much more. (I thought it fantastic because it puts you in walking distance of bars and restaurants, but you will need to drive/catch the bus to get to the mountain.)
Review 25:It didn't have any après skiing or a continental breakfast. Then again, all the coffee shops, eateries, and bars are just within walking distance anyway.
Review 26:It was at the start of everything called Winter Park. The shopping and restaurants are just next door and across the street. The lodging was bare and minimum but served its purpose--a place to sleep. Lodge was also along the shuttle route with a stop just less than 50 meters away.
Review 27:For $130 a night this was pretty primitive. No WiFi and the lobby computer didn't work. The comforter was cheap and kept slipping off the bed. There was no staff or any one around and we were there for 3 days.
Review 28:The room was clean and location was good.
Review 29:We found the Wi-Fi to be unpredictable and slow.
Review 30:This was the perfect place for our family of three. Our 13 year old son had the loft to himself, and we rarely saw or heard the other guests. Many ethnicities are represented in a variety of restaurants in the 3-level outdoor mall next door. There is a free ice skating rink in the lower level of the parking structure behind, as well as an outdoor gas sculpture fire pit with seating. With the Viking as our home base, we went to Winter Park, Vail, Breckenridge, and Granby.
Review 31:Definitely outdated, but hey for a cheap price you can't expect too much. Still had everything you could want and need
Review 32:Loved this place! The location was far too perfect; right by all of the towns' shops and only a 5 minute drive to Winter Park resort. There was hardly anyone there, and the staff was few a far between but everything was easily accessible and needs were met. My friends and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. Very chill mountain hotel.
Review 33:Pretty outdated in every aspect. Not much staff around, never saw anyone at the front desk. This place has so much potential. We paid $270 for 2 nites w tax and all, which I think was too much.
Review 34:Close to food and shopping, had free hot chocolate and coffee. Hot tub worked. Has a rec room w pool and ping pong but it was cold down there and smelly.
Review 35:is very small and the staff in the lodge is completely absent...at least they are in the shop which is in the same building
Review 36:the position, close to the copper creek( where all the restaurant and shops are)...close to the bus stop for going to the resort. The ski resort is 10 minutes, or maybe less, drive from the winter park downtown...consider before choose this or an other hotel that downtown is not the village-ski resort. I actually think that downtown is cheaper and has more restaurants...yet the village is close , is nicer and less desolated...
Review 37:Due to proximity to main street, plows at 6am were very noisy. Not sure what they were doing anyway - there was no new snow!
Review 38:Unique property with a hot tub, and a ping pong table and pool table in the basement.
Review 39:A budget property that worked for us but not fancy at all and not for everyone.
Review 40:Location right in downtown WP, very affordable. Common room for coffee, etc.
Review 41:If you are looking for a luxurious hotel, this is not it. This is a modest lodge with everything you need, but it isn't a 5-star hotel.
Review 42:For the price, this is the best place near Winter Park. Free shuttles take you from the lodge to the mountain, which saves quite a bit in parking costs. The Viking Lodge is a quaint place with a good vibe, and the staff is extremely friendly.
Review 43:We book for 2 night but got one night free, and we also decide to stay another night so we stay 4 night here, schoot and his wife are very helpful and respectful (this what make us comfortable to stay here. I love their dog too :-) thank for look after us. We came again one day.
Review 44:Do it yourself operation. Coffee and microwave in lobby but not plugged in or offered to guests. Rooms up several sets of narrow steps. Rather junky, but ok for a one night cheep stay.
Review 45:Location.
Review 46:We needed to leave early the next morning before staff arrived at the desk at 9am, so we ended up just dropping the key off in the box. Never saw a staff member. I wish booking.com would of notified us that the desk staff had limited hours and we would of tried to arrange our schedule ahead of time to see a staff member upon check in.
Review 47:Cute hotel! Did not know that the desk closed at 4pm, so upon arriving at 10pm we found our key attached to bulletin board and directions to the room.
Review 48:misrepresentation of the property, total lack of security, terrible smell of the wooden walls and absence of someone to attend guests...
Review 49:owner is a very nice guy
Review 50:Great location - super price - this is a bare bones room with bathroom attached - fridge included to keep beer cold. Close to Pole Creek Golf 27 hole course.
Review 51:Nothing
Review 52:Great place with very friendly, cheerful staff. It was the perfect mountain lodge environment at a great price. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 53:Traveled with my 3yr old and myself!! Was a little creepy getting the key at 10pm downstairs on a wall as it was very quite, but a note was left and very easy to follow!!! Small room but exactly what the two of us needed! Will definitely go back!!
Review 54:Room the size I grew up in at 6. Could hear every single person stampingaround above you & I was in Room 1. Lousiest Toilet I've everseen I'm embarrassed I even have to mention it. Explore what roomthey give to you before agreeing, becuz they don't care. No mentionof the supposed music or anything. I've never felt so mislead. Lovedthe building & would even consider staying again...If it was 1963.
Review 55:Cute little room size I grew up in. Bed not Bad, Fantastic location fora wonderful city...to visit. Not stay for even 1 night.
Review 56:Staff understanding of our disappointment and helpful.
Review 57:This lodge was not what's listed in photos. The wilderness photos are of other properties this couple manages. The Viking Lodge is in the middle of town and is a run down ski lodge that has a lot of personality.
Review 58:a little over priced for as small as it was
Review 59:comfortable
Review 60:The Viking is located in easy walking distance to a number of restaurants. It was clean and quiet.
Review 61:Its old and a bit rundown for that price!
Review 62:Nice location and very helpfull and friendly staff!
Review 63:Great location and simple but comfortable room.
Review 64:nothing too bad for a ski lodge over 40 years old.
Review 65:The location and cleanliness were top notch and definitely 5star in my book.
Review 66:Small room, but very rustic, clean, and located right on main st of winter park, which is a very fun little city.
Review 67:Very dirty and can't bellieve they are allowed to rent such a filthy place!!
Review 68:Nothing!!!
Review 69:I consider the place to be a dive
Review 70:There is absolutely nothing that we liked I feel we were deceived by your site
Review 71:Nothing bad.
Review 72:The owners went out of the way to ensure our stay was the best. Even gave us a honeymoon gift!
Review 73:No emergency numbers with no one in the office overnight, no dead bolt lock on the doors.
Review 74:Quiet, comfortable bed, good access to downtown Winter Park
Review 75:I needed a place to stay for my brief trip to Winter Park. The Viking Lodge had everything I needed at a great price.
Review 76:location
Review 77:Near highway so snow plows loud; bed wasn't super comfy, but not terrible.
Review 78:Awesome winter park ski shuttle, near to all the restaurants!!!!
Review 79:Great location, great price, good parking and nice staff. Eat at the Ditch across the street
Review 80:Good Downtown Location.
Review 81:more electric outlets would be nice
Review 82:Staff was nowhere to be found and could use a little updating. Windows and doors were very drafty.
Review 83:All I needed was a place tol sleep. Bed was confortable, bathroom was clean, plenty of hot water and a lot of cable channels to choose from.
Review 84:Lobby area and location.
Review 85:Never saw anyone in charge. Facility a bit run down, but comfortable.
Review 86:Can't beat the price.
Review 87:everything
Review 88:nothing
Review 89:We slept in the loft , dark and dusty ,it lookt like a bunkhouse cowboylike. ..
Review 90:Location
Review 91:Bad services, not clean, waited 30 min for the front desk person show up to the reception
Review 92:wifi was sporatic signal hot tub treated with a bleach like chemical
Review 93:central location in town ski lockers for each room price was good for the time of year and area bed was comfortable
Review 94:The ONLY problem we had was the squeaky ceiling and bed in the room above us. (We rented the 1 BR apartment in the main lodge). I had 2 teenage girls with me and I was quite embarrassed having to hear the rude people above us doing the nasty on our last night. We banged on the ceiling and walls to but they didn't seem to care.
Review 95:Location is excellent. Near laundry, shopping, free close parking, shuttle to WP next door! Ski shop downstairs has everything you need and gave a free adult ski rental for bringing a new college t-shirt in to trade. Full kitchen, comfortable beds, great views and clean bathroom.
Review 96:Needed earplugs. That I couldn't stay another night. Ü
Review 97:Felt very comfortable in this charming little place, like staying with friends. Within walking distance to yummy restaurants. Friendly, accommodating staff.
Review 98:Very modest room furnishings; carpet worn (but clean). Rooms not well sound insulated (but only problem on weekend when group staying next door was noisy).
Review 99:Friendly staff; great location in Winter Park; good rates; older building gave rustic feel of old mountain lodge.
Review 100:I liked everything.
Review 101:I was pleasantly suprised at the Lodge, and how comfortable and homey the place was. It is not fancy but it is a great value in todays market. Great location, less than 50 yds. from just about everything. Yes I said 50 yds.
Review 102:You check in at the T-shirt shop and wait in line. The girl at the register didn't know where the room was located. Poorly marked rooms, very small for a king sized bed, poor lighting and an of date TV. The "office" was closed when we wanted to check out and had stuff strewn about everywhere. Never will stay here again.
Review 103:Nothing but the location.
Review 104:Room #24 w/ the loft was right next to the road. The snow plows and trains sounded like they were going to be coming right through the room. Didn't want to put my feet on the carpeting, it looked rather iffy.
Review 105:Staff was very friendly and attentive to requests. Bed was comfortable, and the water pressure good. Towels were surprisingly mid-range fluffy. Free hot chocolate in the lounge!
Review 106:Room size, linen quality poor and discolored, mattress in room was tired, bathroom not cleaned properly, difficult access to room via poorly structured stairs, no window to room, no amenities in room (kettle, microwave etc in common room only), laundry and spa area in poor state. Hotel/Motel rate for what is a back-packer type resort at best.
Review 107:Location Great.
Review 108:Walls are paper thin. I asked for a quiet room and the place was empty. The only other room with occupants was put right next to mine. I could hear everything through the walls including negotiation of a drug deal. I called the manager and he never returned the call.
Review 109:Had a ski lodge feel. Very Nice owners willing to work with you. We wereupgraded for no additional charge and were very comfortable. They evengave us tips on where to go to enjoy our vacation. Wonderful
Review 110:Jacked up price after getting there, rooms are very dark, scary place,no phone in room, cannot open windows to let air in(very hot), had towalk up three flights of stairs(had pulled hamstring injury). Noise fromhighway, and drunks in bars across street, manager bragged about theirwonderful coffee and hot chocolate served in morning in office, ofcourse none of that available next morning(diappointed my 7 year old wholoves hot chocolate). So much dust in room, whole family kept sneezingwhile there.
Review 111:Price, but even that they screwed up, suppoed tohave two beds, claimeonly asked for one and charged extra $35 for room on top of pricealready listed, too late to shop around by then.
Review 112:Bright light outside the door with a window with no shade left the roomfilled with light all night. Very noisy room with loud neighbors till3:00 am in the morning!
Review 113:No air conditioning. We stayed during the week of the 4th of July. Some of the wooden steps are very worn and narrow. Slightly dangerous. Low water pressure.
Review 114:Close to Winter Park Resort area.
Review 115:no internet password for access... staff did not answer/ return my calls beforehand/ had to make my own coffee in the main lobby if I wanted it.
Review 116:on the main road/ quiet and comfortable/ friendly staff when met shortly.
Review 117:The bed in our room was uncomfortable and we had a hard time getting the room temp just right.
Review 118:After I called about the room (See dislikes) they were very accomodating and moved us to a bigger/better room. The Viking Lodge and Ski Shop is in a great location for shopping at Cooper Creek and has ski rental on the same property. Very convenient.
Review 119:Rooms were very dark and dank..... the ladder to the loft area was poorly built ....the ladder steps were broken causing a dangerous scenario for persons using it!
Review 120:Close to ski resort.....
Review 121:It was a little noisy with paper thin walls. I slept fine but my gf had problems. When I go alone though, I'll stay here again.
Review 122:Great location, decent room, was just comfortable enough.
Review 123:My stay was March 12 & 13. On the evening of the 12th at about 10 pmafter I was asleep, I was shocked when someone was banging on myroom(20) door and then unlocked the door and entered my room. There wasno fight but some anger and yelling on my part. I reported the incidentto the Mgr. The next morning. Some how, another guest had been given akey to my room. The mgr. Was professional about the incident. I shouldhave requested a free second night but didn't think properly. So, Iam now asking for a credit to my Visa or a refund for the second night.I believe that's fair. Thank you.Fran Cornelius.
Review 124:Noisy. The hotel is not well insulated and you can hear lots of noise from the other hotel guests along with noises outside. Guest services are only open from around 8AM - 8PM. No access to microwave, hot beverages, pool table and ping pong table between 8 PM-8 AM.
Review 125:Excellent location. Close to shops and restaurants. Bus stop also very convenient
Review 126:The room was extremely small and cramped. The heater made noiseconstantly, and every time anyone flushed the toilet or turned on thewater, it sounded like Niagra Falls. The room was up two flights ofstairs though I had requested a lower floor room. Check in time wasdesignated as "after 4 PM", but there was no one there after6:00, so there was not even any way to talk to someone about the roomuntil the next morning. I was aware that this was considered a"rustic" room, but it was more like a closet. It wasdefinately not worth $65.00.
Review 127:There weren"t any bed bugs.
Review 128:Room, service (there was none), internet was out half the time. Noise. Poorly insulated doors caused sever draft in the room. Very poor lighting. Stayed for almost a week and no one bothered to clean the room or even empty the trash.
The Fine Print
Please note: There is no air-conditioning or phones in rooms. There is no lift available at the property. Guests must walk up several flights of stairs to access their room.
