Reviews for Scottish Inn - Saint Augustine
Review 1:Soap was the only toiletry included. No coffee pot in the room and the wasn't any made at the front desk.
Review 2:great location, nice staff, easy check-in/out, comfortable clean room with a fridge and microwave
Review 3:I really enjoyed the people who worked there and lived there (because yes, there are long term rental rooms). I was travelling as a single female and felt relatively safe in the hotel and in the area walking around at night (it's central to some REALLY beauiful places) however if you are travelling with kids or maybe not as used to kind of sketchy surroundings you might not want to book. The large tree out front is historically the old "hanging tree" which was used to kill criminals for hundreds of years and has a plaque out front which sorta of spooked me out a tad. Ghosts aside- one of the corner units was currently out of comission as a crime scene due to it being used as a small level meth shack. The day I was there, there was also a pest prevention dude going down to spray the rooms. My mortal fear is bed bugs, so I asked about them bed bugs but he said it is roach prevention. I didn't see any bugs at all, so perhaps it is working.
Review 4:I stayed here for 4 days in October. The staff was honestly really friendly and prompt about any of my concerns. The guy in the room next to me was having a loud dance party for one one night, and I called down to the manager and he knocked, asked him to quiet it a bit for me. It was clean-ish for what you pay for. It's not a Fairmont or anything, but they provide all the toiletries you need. I had on a "do not disturb sign" the whole time, but they routinely asked if I needed anything each day. Air conditioner worked, and there was coffee in the lobby in the morning. There was a microwave and mini-fridge too.
Review 5:Old, dirty, unsafe, and in a terrible state of disrepair. Room two doors down was sealed with Crime Scene Evidence Tape and had a Police Warning not to enter room! (I have the pictures). Other hotel "guests" looked like transients and sat outside there rooms smoking and drinking all hours of the day and night. Awful hotel! Will not stay there again at any price!
Review 6:Location is close to historic sites.
Review 7:There was no microwave in my room. The rack for hanging clothes was not high enough off the floor to hang slacks or a dress. The room just did not have a clean, fresh smell, and there were no chairs with the dining table provided.
Review 8:Bathroom was clean. There was a large oak tree in the center of the parking lot. The location was within walking distance of the historic district.
Review 9:Felt a little uncomfortable because of damage to door. Looked like it had been jimmied a few times. It wasn't the cleanest place I stayed on my trip.
Review 10:Could walk to places to eat and to the trolley.
Review 11:The building is old and dated. The place needs some touch ups. The room was a bit dark... even with the lamp on. The shower was very slow to drain.
Review 12:The location was walking distance from the historical downtown. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. There was a refrigerator. The staff was very helpful. There was no problem with parking. I would stay here again.
Review 13:The bathroom shower curtain was held up by duct tape. The Shower head was way to strong and hurt your skin.Water wasnt too Hot.
Review 14:How close to everything you are
Review 15:This place is waaay shabby, and all amenities have seen better days. Thefridge and microwave were old, the walls were bare, carpet gave off that"old smoke" smell, some paint chips flaked off. But it isstill a motel with everything you expect, and it functions as one.
Review 16:This is a 7 minute walk from St. Augustine's main drag. It is one ofthe few affordable places in town. The beds were more comfortable thanexpected, the bathroom was clean and stocked with soap/shampoo,everything worked (lights, fridge, microwave, etc.). Based on thereviews, we came with our own sheets and towels, but ended up notneeding to use them.
Review 17:They didn't give us the queen size bed that we reserved - received two double beds. The air conditioner made excessive noise. the ceiling in the bathroom had a poorly made repair to the ceiling where a heater/exhaust fan had been removed. The bedroom had a crack in the ceiling that ran 2 thirds of the way across the room.
Review 18:Clean bed and bathroom.
Review 19:Exterior needs a steam cleaning. Had a non-smoking room but guests are permitted to smoke outside their rooms (had a neighbor who had a full ashtray outside his front door). No bueno for allergies! For a motel located in the heart of the attractions, you would expect better upkeep and less "weekly" residents occupying the rooms. Just didn't feel safe there, sorry!
Review 20:Location Room was relatively clean
Review 21:The location is awesome! The hotel staff was friendly and helpful but the hotel itself could use some work. Water pressure in the shower was great though.
Review 22:That old wall a/c unit. Made a weird noise and even though we were in a non-smoking room. Presumably Cigarette smoke (if you get my meaning) was wafting through from adjacent room Or outside. Can't tell. My daughter had a horrible allergic response. Eyes swelled up and sneezed all night. Had to give Benadryl. Ended up covering the a/c with a towel and sleeping in a hot room. Thank goodness we were only there for one night. Oh and they may want to fire their handyman because the shower curtain rod was hung up with duct tape. And spackle up the screw holes in the walls!
Review 23:Very Clean. I actually brought a high power UV flashlight with me. Right across from fountain of youth. The beds were comfy. Quiet.
Review 24:Old as st Augustine its self. Dirty poorly maintained. Pictures are several years old. There is not a pool. No hot water at all. Overly priced and felt like a needed a body suit.
Review 25:Nothing but the location.
Review 26:Room flooded, hole in bathtub at faucet, could see into next room. Nocoffee pot, hair dryer, iron & no Pool. Room smelled of mold!!! Itis not a "Scottish Inn", it's privately owned, as I wasinformed by Manager upon arrival.
Review 27:Absolutely nothing!!!
Review 28:The outside of the building was dirty with a lot of rotten wood showing. There was not an iron or blow dryer in the room and there was mold in the bathroom. The lock on the window was broken and there were several people sitting outside the doors.
Review 29:The hotel is only a short walk to downtown St. Augustine. The room was fairly clean.
Review 30:We arrived earlier than our check-in time and needed to use the facilities. There were no facilities in the office so I asked the housekeeping lady if I could use the restroom she was cleaning. She had just mopped the floor but was nice enough to take me to her personal room. That was going above and beyond customer service!!! The room was accommodating and we will definitely keep Scottish Inn on our St. Augustine motel list.
Review 31:This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. You walk into the room (after having to shove your entire body weight against the door because it sticks) into a musty room with one floor lamp and one night stand. The bathroom was a deplorable mess. There is nail polish stains on the sink, the tub was rusting away and looked like it had never been cleaned, the shower curtain was disgusting and molding, the towels were starched and scratchy, and NO toiletries were provided. Actually, there was a loofa that someone else had left and an already opened bar of soap. When we inspected the bed there were cigarette burns in the blanket. The sheets smelled ok but they had some old stains on them where you can tell they just tried to bleach it instead of replacing. I would expect this from a hotel that's $30/40 a night, but this hotel cost us $100. I don't understand how they are still in business.
Review 32:1) The room was dirty, bed unmaid, and no towels were available. No tissue boxes, shampoo, hair dryer available. too few electrical outlets. The neighboring room was infested with termites; my BF had to go over and help the lady next door get rid of them. The cleaning lady sprayed my BF with cleaning solution for no reason, but to be funny. The establishment is in desperate need of re-modeling. We were there during Memorial Day weekend and the owners decided to have the parking spots re-tarred.
Review 33:Not much, walkable to the Spanish Quarter, no bed bugs, but that's about it.
Review 34:That there were no tissues in the bathroom, so we had to use toilet paper to blow out noses. Half the lights in the room wouldn't turn on because they were plugged into outlets that were dead. And the fact that there were so few outlets to use & were hard to get to in order to plug in our cell phones. Also, there wasn't an ice machine on the 2nd floor.
Review 35:I liked that the location was close enough to everywhere we wanted to go & we could just walk everywhere. I LOVED that they keep that 400 year old oak on the property, it's beautiful. The staff acknowledged my special request & was generally helpful.
Review 36:Bathroom wall in shower had cracks with mold growing. Gross!! No phone in room.Could he the people above walking around half the night
Review 37:bed was ok and clean. Wifi worked well. Location good
Review 38:Sink clogged. Sketchy people hanging around the property, including the "live-ins" (weekly rate) folks were loud late at night and kinda scary. We didn't feel personally safe or comfortable leaving any valuables in the room OR the car. Mold in the shower. Air turned off / we came back to a muggy room each day.
Review 39:The price and central location to the attractions. The guy at the front desk was VERY nice too. Strong WiFi signal.
Review 40:The greatest discomfort was the local tenants smoking and noise. They demonstrated great disrespect for visitors, the facility and the staff. Even the hole in the wall behind the toilet and broken towel rack in the bathroom were understandable. But locals yelling and smoking near and in the non-smoking rooms... not acceptable.
Review 41:Location is great and for the cost we didn't expect much. A little maintenance goes a long way and would really help. Love the rustic ambiance of the place and over all it wasn't bad, apart from the locals. (Disrespectful, noisy and smoking)
Review 42:bed wasnt very comfortable pretty hard
Review 43:close to everything, trolley pickup directly across the street. The staff was very friendly, it was nice and quiet hotel.
Review 44:Some people live in this hotel and were kind of drunk, was a little weird.
Review 45:The room was clean and decent sized. Nothing fancy here like fancy lotions or a hair dryer. Innkeeper let me borrow an umbrella, which was nice.
Review 46:Our first room had a small lizard in it and I did tried to catch it but I failed to do so. I wasn't alarmed as I knew that it was harmless and it probably got in when we had the door open.We did move to our booked room for the remainder of our stay and we had no other encounters, just a one time thing and I doubt that it would happen again.
Review 47:The staff was friendly and even though we arrived a day ahead of time they managed to give us a room for the night even though it was a busy time of year.
Review 48:Our room smelt like musty cleaning products. There was a HUGE dry water spot that may have been contributing to the smell, and I believe it made my allergies act up. Our bathroom window didn't have a lock, so we had to rig it with a hanger. Needs some definite updating.
Review 49:It was a 10 minute walk away from historic, which was very convienient. Our friends room was a lot nicer than ours. Room was cheaper than anywhere else, and it served it's purpose.
Review 50:There was nothing I really didn't like. The Hotel itlself was ok but I won't complain. It saved me a lot of money compared to if I would have stay es in the Double Tree right accross the street. I only needed the Hotel to see anyway.
Review 51:Definetly the location of this hotel is a big plus. Lo catedral in San Marco Avenue is just 5 block from the Fountain of your and Old Jail to the right and about 4 blocks from the Historic town to the left.
Review 52:Well..they gave my room away, they were not authorized to run my credit card , and they did with out my knowledge..the room was being held with credit card, was going to pay in cash. Will never return and tell others to stay away.
Review 53:Nothing
Review 54:Door wasn't easy to open or close. The room and doors need a nice paint job.
Review 55:Loved how close it was to st George st. The beds were comfortable. Lots of space in the room. Huge bathroom.
Review 56:Sheets and pillows had stains Everything was broken Room smelled There's a couple that lives in the hotel that screamed at each other all night
Review 57:The location
Review 58:smoke alarm didn't work had to take batteries out. Sink was pulling away from wall and they thought caulking would fix. We were put into a handicap room, was to small for 2 adults and 2 children. But we made do. Otherwise, was okay.
Review 59:Only walking distance from downtown. Tram across the street.
Review 60:Having to slam the door to get it shut and worrying about disturbing the people that live there with their young children
Review 61:The staff was nice. The location was close to the touristy things like Ripleys and the Fountain of Youth and the fort.
Review 62:No coffee maker. Roach in bathtub when we arrived. Carpet was stained and dirty looking. People apparently living in this motel. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Took 5 minutes for water to get hot in shower. Outside area looked shabby.
Review 63:Refrigerator and microwave. Proximity to downtown St. Augustine. Price was cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Review 64:Great location only a short walk or tram ride (pick up location directly across the street) to downtown small quaint room very clean but served a purpose. The staff was very nice and would go back again
Review 65:It was very close to all the main attractions within walking distance. Place was very clean and really not bad for price. Had a nice stay there.
Review 66:Rude guests, suspected possible drug dealers staying there, seemed to be a place for indigent people, would not recommend. Rude management and they seemed they could barely speak English, very hard to understand. Served only coffee, at 7 am nothing else. Office was locked after a certain hour and difficult to get attention of management.
Review 67:It was a place to sleep since we were away from home. Nothing more.
Review 68:Staff was very persistent about being out of the room at 11 AM, and even called the room to make sure I was out of there by 11 AM. The light in the bathroom didn't work. It was hard to get the lock open to get into the door/room. The place was dumpy and scary. Only good thing with the price and location.
Review 69:The price.
Review 70:We were only there overnight. Not really anything to dislike.
Review 71:Great location in St Augustine. It's an older motel but the price was very good and the room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 72:1. The bathroom door would not close/lock and was literally separating (hollow core) 2. No safety lock for entrance door 3. Old and dilapidated motel 4. Tub would not drain
Review 73:staff and general location... the ac and Wi-FI worked... the only positives for the room
Review 74:The room smelled like curry. The door frame was busted near the dead bolt. The room was not clean. Stains were all over the bathroom. The tub drain was stopped up. The toilet was clogged. When we got into the room there weren't any towels. I could go on...
Review 75:The room smells like smoke even though its a non smoking room. The bathroom was very dirty. There was no phone to call the front desk, no clock and the front door has a trick to opening it. They do not clean good. There was a broken hairbrush in the tub and a used tooth pick on the night stand. I walked in my socks to the bathroom and had pet hair all over the bottom of them when I sat back down. If we had enough money to go somewhere else we would have!
Review 76:The location was good. It was only a half mile from the historic district.
Review 77:Ice maker was broken.
