Reviews for Best Western Royal Sun
Review 1:Employees are competent and friendly, and the location right next to downtown Tucson and close to the U of A make it a very convenient place to stay for the value. The restaurant is good, too. Definitely a good choice for people with business in downtown or at the U of A.
Review 2:The bed was a bit uncomfortable - felt like it had not been replaced in awhile.
Review 3:The staff and free made-to-order breakfast were both great. The hotel is older, but kept up well.
Review 4:Like everything in this area of Tucson, the property is old. It is well maintained and clean but the quality is NOT 3 stars.
Review 5:The suite allowed me to work while my wife went to bed. We also liked the cafe that was part of the property. The staff was friendly and professional.
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:Great accommodation appears to recently renovated. Breakfast very good. Ate dinner in restaurant very good. Don't normally eat in motel restaurants this an exception.
Review 8:Had to ask for complete set of bathroom linens.
Review 9:We loved the free breakfast. Your choice of 10 options; made to your liking. The best ever! The motel is easy to get to and within walking distance of downtown Tucson.
Review 10:trains close by very noisy throughout the night which woke me every evening and i am not a lite sleeper
Review 11:rooms were spacious and clean and service in the restaurant first class
Review 12:This hotel was amazing! We came on a Thursday night all the way from California , driving! The lady at the front desk upgraded us to a sweet with free breakfast a full nice breakfast at that! It was great!
Review 13:nothing at all!
Review 14:great cook-to-order breakfast included, very nice and comfortable room (queen suite had a sitting area, 2 TVs, and jacuzzi tub), pool was nice and grounds were cute. it was impressive, more than we expected. our room was comparable to one at a more upscale hotel for sure.
Review 15:The restaurant was being renovated so out complimentary breakfast was in the bar. It was very crowded because the room was small. The service was still quick and attentive.
Review 16:The hotel was nice, clean and the room was comfortable. The location was close to where we wanted to be for an evening out. The bar staff was great both in the evening for drinks and in the morning for breakfast.
Review 17:the doorlocks reset and the card wont open the door everytime after walking upstairs but that happens everywhere. also sunday checkout time is a little early
Review 18:they upgraded us to a suite for free and the free breakfast was great
Review 19:there is a railroad nearby which has a whistle stop which can be disturbing at nights if you do not use the hotel provided ear plugs.
Review 20:friendly front desk, nice lounge attached to the hotel with live music. the food in the restaurant was good and the room was clean and neat. located very close to the university and not too far away from downtown and easily accessible from the airport.
Review 21:It sounded like there were 500 birds outside our room from 5-6:30 am every morning!
Review 22:Really like the breakfast and the bed was very comfortable, cushioned enough but still firm.
Review 23:The staff was super accommodating and just plain nice. They kept me supplied with cold bottled water through some very hot weather. The room was quite comfortable, clean, and fresh looking. Breakfast was much better than those self-serve hotel breakfasts. I'd stay here again.
Review 24:Cancelled room weeks before stay & they still charged full amount ofroom. I'm sure room was rented out...what a ripoff. I will neverstay at Best westerns again.
Review 25:I was traveling across the the country and this hotel stay was last one before we reached our destination. The staff was great and the gave us the pet friendly room that was great! The stay allowed us to recharged and be on our way. The food there is great! You have to try to the restaurant.
Review 26:Not a big problem but noise isolation between rooms could be better
Review 27:Very nice staff, ideal location and excellent restaurant (delicious cooked to order breakfast; very friendly staff). We were served wonderfully cooked green beans and asparagus which we never found elsewhere in other restaurants)
Review 28:Free breakfast ad misleading as you must choose from one of ten bland meals. picked wrong time to visit as exterior maintenance was being performed causing an abundance of parking problems.
Review 29:Dinner in their resturant was at least four star. Staff was freindlyand knowledgeable of attractions and directions to each.
Review 30:The TV reception was analog and had terrible picture quality. Also there were only a few channels. The worst quality of TV I have seen in a motel in the last 15 years.
Review 31:My one complaint (personal) was my room the first night was noisy due to facing the main road. But many people probably wouldn't have been bothered by the street noise.
Review 32:The hotel was very clean, and the staff were very good and helpful. They were very responsive to my one complaint and handled it promptly.
Review 33:We were able to get a last minute reservation while we were driving cross country. First great experience was calling the hotel when we were lost and getting directions. Second great surprise was how nice the room was (hotel is a bit old so we were managing our expectations.) Third great surprise was the great food (that was free) at the cafe and the 2 for 1 drinks in the lounge. Would definitely recommend.
Review 34:They overcharged me for a small scratch that my pet did to the room entrance door. The first attendant that helped us when we got to the hotel looked like she was rushing to get rid of us. The food from the restaurant was horrible.
Review 35:Room comfort was ok.
Review 36:We booked a stay for a week. Front desk checked me in as handicapped. I do not think the bed had clean sheets when we checked in. The free breakfast was no exactly as advertised. I found out on the second day that it was not a part of the hotel and the menu was limited. On the morning of the sixth day we got up to no cars in our area of parking. When we went to go to breakfast we found the exit barricaded. We were informed by the construction that they were sealing the lot. Apparently everyone affected had ben called except us.This after we had been there six days.Borderline ghetto.
Review 37:The room was roomy. The shower/whirlpool was OK. All staff except male desk manager was were very freindly and helpful.
Review 38:Ear plugs on the counter as we entered the room was an oh-oh moment. Turned out there are train tracks nearby. Parking was less than optimal. Location is in an older part of town.
Review 39:The room was much larger than expected. Clean and well decorated. The complementary breakfast was top notch.
Review 40:Room was dark and creepy looking even with all lights on and curtains open. Air conditioner loud and shook the room. Housekeeping sketchy. No soap replenish, forgot to replenish TP and tissue one day, and missed our room once because we used do not disturb card while at breakfast. They never returned to check again. Apparently no one actually verifies. Would have left after first day if had not chosen non refundable rate.
Review 41:Friendly desk. Free cooked to order breakfast at on site restaurant.
Review 42:The light switch locators are too bright and light up the room when dark. Rather annoying.
Review 43:The room was clean/quiet even on a Friday night. The breakfast that was included in the stay was outstanding and well worth getting up for. On sight security in the evenings was a nice touch! Plus there is a small gym.
Review 44:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 45:The room was newly/recently renovated and was very clean and neat. The pool area and exterior were also very clean. Most of all, the breakfast was fantastic - not the usual continental breakfast of chalky bagels and stale cereal - this was a sit down breakfast in a cafe with a menu, 10 free choices of breakfast for all hotel guests. Really wonderful. The price was very reasonable too, great value.
Review 46:Our breakfast tended to be rather cooled off - generally the breakfast was not great.
Review 47:Disabled room was very good. Grounds were quite well maintained. Near to roads leading to downtown area but close to getting onto #10
Review 48:The suite we were given had been upgraded for us (nice) but it had a spa type tub, being short it was scary trying to get in and out.
Review 49:The location was easy to get to and was centrally located to the street fair and other sites we were interested in visiting.
Review 50:The most important thing to note is that this is no longer a Best Western Plus. Earplugs are supplied with the room, USE THEM! This is because of the trains that have to honk every time they go over a crossing and there are a new nearby. While the hotel obviously can't help this, it's worth bearing in mind if you're a light sleeper
Review 51:The beds were very comfortable
Review 52:It was falsely advertised as Best Western Plus on Booking.com. It is not. Very old and needs major update. Poor insulation -- could hear people below us, no elevator, breakfast is old restaurant and though there were 10 breakfast menu choices, you could not substitute and I have special dietary needs. I prefer the buffet style breakfasts in most Best Westerns.
Review 53:Bed fairly comfortable, and staff very helpful and nice. It was clean.
Review 54:I felt a little uncomfortable late night in the parking lot as there were some kids loitering.
Review 55:I arrived late and the night staff was great. When I checked out in a hurry to get to work, the front desk clerk was so nice and gave me water and a snack bar as I did not have time for breakfast! The room was spacious and clean. Great experience, will stay there again.
Review 56:Only had shower...no tub. When booking, the $17 a day for taxes wasn't mentioned. Would not have booked had I known.
Review 57:Staff was extremely pleasant. Breakfast rated a 10.
Review 58:We didn't know that we had to tell when we wanted to have our rooms made, so we went some days without room service.
Review 59:heated pool spacious rooms big shower great breakfast!
Review 60:Very few staff .so don't expect much from them ,carry your bag own on 2 fl without elevator . Don't care for replacing toiletries and refilling .
Review 61:Very easy ,convinient ,friendly .Good breakfast .
Review 62:Ice machines didn't deliver much ice.
Review 63:It's very unusual to have a real restaurant breakfast included in the hotel price, and the very friendly folks at the desk kindly gave us an extra voucher so our local friend could join us there. We also enjoyed having a drink on the balcony outside our room before we walked downtown for dinner. In January. Can't beat the Tucson weather.
Review 64:Noisy train could be heard blowing its whistle every night.
Review 65:The restaurant and the free hot breakfast 2 for drinks in the evening and very nice staff. Comfortable beds
Review 66:When we were driving from the freeway we started to get worried because of the surroundings. But, upon entering the hotel property we saw how nice it was. The jacuzzi was fantastic and the restaurant staff were exceptionally wonderful. Food was excellent.
Review 67:saturday night the restaurant was understaffed and that made for overly long wait times. On sunday morning that was not the case and food preparation was much better and the wait times were normal.
Review 68:Ease of check in and out
Review 69:no place to walk my dog even though they are pet friendly. toilet handle was broken and shower was hard to work.
Review 70:the big bathtub large clean rooms friendly staff great breakfast WiFi easy to use
Review 71:The shower had hardly any power. And the beds were hard. The waitress we had for breakfast. We let her know that the hot water for the tea was lukewarm and she just told us, well that's as hot as it gets.
Review 72:I liked how the front desk staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 73:I did not want to cause issues with neighbors but smoking on the common balcony outside everybody else's non-smoking room just not good. Inn right across the street from park frequented by many homeless folks. Nothing against them but I was worried about break ins to vehicle.
Review 74:Coffee shop- food surprisingly good!! Inn clean, ship shape and staff very efficient and friendly. Very close to down town and easy to find off freeway. Suite was very spacious and great appliances- fridge, micro, 2 TVs. Made for a great road trip layover.
Review 75:Nothing.
Review 76:The pool was fabulous and the breakfast complete and filling. Great wait staff in restaurant and helpful staff on front desk. Room was convenient to parking, the pool, view....great stay.
Review 77:Homeless park across the street. Loud train horns in the morning. Not the best location for extended stay not much around to see on foot
Review 78:Easy access from I-10 fwy best breakfast cook to order beds comfortable
Review 79:The only thing that was a negitive to me was the fact that our toliet rocked.
Review 80:The staff here where all very professinal and friendly. The hot breakfast that is included was wonderful and so was the server "Ron" just loved him. This resturant has great food and equelly great fast service. Rooms were clean and updated.
Review 81:Rooms could use updating.
Review 82:The restaurant on property served a great breakfast that was included. Staff were nice. Pool and hot tub nice. Close proximity to UA.
Review 83:We missed the entrance to the hotel and had to turn around. The hotel seemed disjointed from the main office--but not that big of a deal. No tub...just a shower. Even though breakfast was good...the restaurant was outdated and seemed dirty.
Review 84:Staff was friendly--even housekeeping. Breakfast was good.
Review 85:The room not well kept up-missing picture, broken lamp shade etc.. This was addressed by the first rate day manager December 5-8. There was a razor blade on the stairs. Generally the area could be loud from the bar and felt unsafe.
Review 86:The day manager was excellent--responsive, sharp and bright. He is an engaged advocate for the hotel.
Review 87:When I arrived I was upgraded for free to a suite, and about 10 minutes after unpacking received a call making sure the room was to my liking. This is so easy for many hotels to do, and they just usually don't. It's not much, but the gesture was much appreciated.
Review 88:The hotel had everything I expected but keep in kind it was not the Ritz, but the value was good!
Review 89:Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was included at the attached restaurant and it was excellent!
Review 90:Hotel staff/services were excellent -- polite & friendly. My room was clean, comfortable & surprisingly quiet (considering this central location). I enjoyed the patio seating right outside my door. I was not able to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast (or 2/4/1 drink coupons) this trip. I would most definitely stay here again. It's a great value/location.
Review 91:quality of food and service at restaurant was disapointing especially at busy time, we left without complimentary breakfast
Review 92:friendly staff at reception, nice place
Review 93:The location was not ideal,
Review 94:The room we had was clean and comfortable. Nice roomy bathroom area. The breakfast was at the restaurant. great choices, good food for a hotel free breakfast! Would stay here again if in Tucson
Review 95:No elevator to second floor. Not far from busy train tracks. Train horns blasting as they pass through intersections until well after midnight. That's not the fault of the Royal Sun. But if you're not used to a lot of noise at night- I'm not, you might want to consider another location.
Review 96:I liked the location which was close to the event I was attending. Great complimentary breakfast in their on-site restaurant. Spacious clean room. Nice staff.
Review 97:Could have a better breakfast (more food if you're hungry),but waiting staff was very polite. Lack of elevator to 2nd floor was kinda hard on senior citizens and staff who needed to go up and down to their cleaning carts. Need hotter bath water.
Review 98:We were made to feel like royalty. Free upgrade w/o asking was a huge plus and room was very nice.
Review 99:We stayed at the Best Western during UA homecoming and had a great experience. Everyone was friendly, polite, and helpful. The room rate also included a breakfast each day and 2-for-1 drinks in the bar during the evenings. The rooms were clean, and newly updated.
Review 100:The light factor of turning off when not at the bathroom sink then on again and off - frustrating!
Review 101:The room was very comfortable as were the beds, very clean. Appreciated the refrigerator and the TV was excellent with a variety of shows and information channels. We really enjoyed the restaurant for our free breakfast, the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 102:no elevator - my wife and I are 79 I had asked for handicapped or at least first floor when I made the reservations. we got a room on the second floor.
Review 103:Having the restaurant and including breakfast was a real bonus for the money
Review 104:Wi-Fi reception was poor in my hotel room, sounds of train might bother light sleepers
Review 105:Friendly staff, clean well renovated rooms, nice pool, perfect breakfasts, relatively close to the University and the downtown
Review 106:Located in a sketchy neighborhood. I wouldn't walk around off the property at night.
Review 107:Very friendly staff (especially Julio at the front desk). Close to U of A and 4th Ave district. Free breakfast.
Review 108:Dividing walls are to thin, neighbor noise can be a problem. Train noise in the background.
Review 109:Big large spacious apartment styled rooms. I had a King suite; extremely comfortable bed and aircon. was very efficient. 2 TV's, wow.
Review 110:Freight trains tooting their horns at 6am 20 minute walk into the downtown area
Review 111:Free parking Free wifi Voucher for 2-4-1 drinks in the on-site bar Friendly and helpful staff
Review 112:Not that many channels on TV, shower soaps smelled bad. Could get some nicer smelling ones.other budget hotels have Pantene and nicer brands. Other than that- great stay!
Review 113:Large, quiet room, good wifi connection. Nice, modern decor. Staff at front desk and restaurant went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Would definately recommend this hotel to anyone- excellent price for what you get
Review 114:Our son moved to Tucson in march and at that time we stayed at the Royal Sun, were pleased decided to stay there again while in town for a visit.Friendly staff, clean rooms, walk in shower, breakfast cooked to order in the on site restaurant, great pool. Great value for the money. Nice to have a restaurant and bar on site for a late night snack and a nightcap.
Review 115:The fact that my booking confirmation I had meant nothing to the frontdesk clerk.
Review 116:Air conditioning! The attached bar/restaurant had great fun staff
Review 117:The wifi wasn't very good. I had to keep logging in and it was very slow.
Review 118:The rooms were clean and comfortable. We didn't use the pool but it looked very nice. It was nice being able to order from a menu for breakfast. We enjoyed our stay.
Review 119:All staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Great meals at the attached restaurant- Nate was fantastic. Definitely stay at this accomodation.
Review 120:My room was across from the pool and there was constant noise all the time, from 9am to 2am. Complained about the late night noise and checked out early
Review 121:I have no regrets.
Review 122:The room was very comfortable and spacious. Really like the number of pillows on the bed. We enjoyed the size of the shower and the amenities. The breakfast was nice and the service very good. Our stay was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone.
Review 123:It was located at what it seemed like a major intersection so there was some vehicle noise. The gym was quaint.
Review 124:The staff was awesome and the restaurant located on site had really good food.
Review 125:nice rooms, helpful staff
Review 126:Could have used another blanket.
Review 127:Excellent spot after 13 hours on the road. Would highly recommend.
Review 128:Housekeeping was not thorough.
Review 129:The room was clean and spacious. Food at a restaurant was good, especially free breakfast was excellent.
Review 130:No complaints
Review 131:The staff was very friendly, enjoyed hot breakfast as opposed to a continental breakfast, quiet property. Overall wonderful stay!
Review 132:Suite like rooms with separate sitting area . Very roomy bedroom. Wish we were staying d longer
