Reviews for Empire Meadowlands Hotel by Clarion
Review 1:This is a comfortable hotel with a great staff-- I've stayed here twice this year, and will be back. The parking has been dicey in the past, but the new deck is open, so it shouldn't be an issue. Off-season rates are especially great.
Review 2:I hotel is easily accessed just off the turnpike, and had plenty of parking (even with the construction to the deck). The super friendly and asked how my trip in was ( had driven 960 miles from birmingham), was even super understanding that I had to cut my trip short for personal reasons
Review 3:Parking was terrible. No parking on site. We were told to look for a spot outside,if not park in parking garage. We were given a pass. We showed the kids in parking garage. Weird entrance. Scraped bottom of my car. No choice. We were told then we couldn't park there because it was being renovated and for apartment building. So we got kicked out and had to park three miles away in a shady unsecured lot and wait for scab to get us. Felt very uncomfortable leaving my car. Went in to ask staff why can't park in garage and were so rude after everything they told us.... First come first serve. Also, I called downstairs to see if at that time I can get pizza delivered from somewhere and the guy said f you come to the desk I'll give you menus. So I go down and order and stayed in Lobby then realized that people were eating different food and pizza in bar area! I waited an hour and half for the pizza and I would have just ordered there. Probably because I said delivery.
Review 4:Clean. Has bar and food. Close to shopping. Close to seacaucus train station.
Review 5:- Terrible WIFI coverage - Standard rooms could be better equipped (microwave and fridge)
Review 6:- Clean and confortable room - Great location - Friendly staff - Good prices
Review 7:Don't trust them with a credit card. They overcharge by $60, saying it's a $50 security that will be refunded at checkout. Never was refunded.
Review 8:Room was quite dirty actually especially the bathroom:( they charged us two times for one night- it was such an unprofessional mistake
Review 9:Okay location and free parking
Review 10:The parking garage was not finished therefore I had to take a shuttle to and from the parking lot where the my stayed overnight. There was something disgusting in the bathtub. Couldn't shower in the morning.
Review 11:After a long day in Manhattan it was an easy drive to the hotel
Review 12:Overall cleanliness of hotel was subpar. Phone in room didn't work, tv was not working and had to fix that ourselves. Bed slept terribly. Felt like sleeping on a layer of bricks.
Review 13:Bus stop to NYC close by and convenient. Very friendly bartender. Room was clean overall.
Review 14:The breakfast wasn't great. The cereal choices were boring. They ran out of Raisin Bran.
Review 15:The location. Easy access to the bus to NYC. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 16:Great Hotel.. BEAUTIFUL View Great Location! 30 MIN AWAY FROM EVERYTHING! Bus Stop on Corner...very convenient Cant wait to come back and ask for my Favorite Room Staff....very Professional and FRIENDLY! LOVED MY STAY!!!
Review 17:Dryer in the laundry still wasn't working. When I was there a month ago it wasn't working, either. They now want to tag on incidentals, whereas when I stayed a month ago, they didn't.
Review 18:Rate is good.
Review 19:Caulk was yellowed and looked old. And most importantly the parking lot was closed and we had to be shuttled back and forth. Unfortunately they never told us when we were booking the room about this.
Review 20:Location is good. Room was large and reasonably well laid out.
Review 21:Parking is 5 min away and shuttle was unreliable at night. Shower is very weak. Supposed to be great view of NYC from 13th floor but window was too dirty for us to enjoy the sunrise.
Review 22:Electricity went three times, the hot water tap couldn't turn on, there was a constant drip in the sink as well as drinking glasses were left dirty.
Review 23:the couch looked burned all over it the bathroom had mold in it and the toilet was for a hobbit(way to small)the parking was horrible I had to leave my car 2 miles away
Review 24:room size and two tvs
Review 25:Lack of parking. Coffee maker broken. Telephone beside bed broken. Ice machine on 14th floor broken. Staff at front desk slow and not very helpful.
Review 26:Room was large. View was great. Bar staff very congenial.
Review 27:The first room had someone else's blood on the floor. The 2nd had a backed up toilet and the third had a moldy sink. All rooms had dirty windows and peeling wallpaper. Manager did nothing to rectify the situation, staff was unfriendly.
Review 28:Corporate customer service is pretty nice
Review 29:Nothing it was filthy dirty and would never come here or recommend this place.
Review 30:parking on site is limited and you may need t be shuttled a mile away to leave your car at a cab company lot. they gave priority of the parking to guests of a party not the hotel guests and blocked the handicap parking, when issue brought to staff kevin was very rude, said he sent for manager and then proceeded to leave us sitting in the lobby for over an hour at 1 in the morning before telling us the manager was gone. there was no cart for luggage in the lobby and he would not locate a cart either. not impressed with staff or the manager when advised of the situation later.
Review 31:room size was good, beds were comfortable
Review 32:Complete rubbish with a building site nearby and a crazy noise from the highway and the water reservoir. Not a chance to open windows. The bar is the lousiest place ever with a barman violating all the possible sanitation norms.
Review 33:Na
Review 34:After travelling 32 hours from Austrlalia, turning up to this place was amazing!! King sized bed, big shower and large room!! Amazing!! Didn't arrive until 11:30pm but staff was kind enough to kelp us order takeaway and have it delivered to our room... Pizza was incredible!!
Review 35:Lack of parking, first room was falling apart and was transferred. The second room the furniture had issues as well.
Review 36:Location was good the staff was friendly and responsive.
Review 37:We have had several stays at the Empire Clarion over the last 4 years. The entire Staff has always been very polite , cordial and hospitable. Of course the location is Great away from the crowded city. Neighborhood is clean and well kept and very inviting.
Review 38:The thermostat in the room did not work properly, my room was really cold.
Review 39:I liked the location, the staff was courteous and the rooms were well maintained and clean. Also, the hotel was quite and peaceful.
Review 40:Staff except front desk lady was unprofessional! Rooms were sprayed withthis fragrant tthat seemed like an entire bottle was used. My fiancé hasasthma, we had to leave door open for hours. Tub water comes out veryslow,no fridge or microwave, the coffee shopped lab led Starbucks isjust labeled that! This was no Starbucks. Maybe Ghetto Bucks. Bigspeakers set up downstairs in front of so called buffet. Blasting salsamusic (really!!!) I would not stay here again!
Review 41:Nothing much
Review 42:We were miss informed about a bus that goes to the met life stadium apparently there isn't one. Paid $10 for the hotel breakfast buffet and it was nasty. At 9:00 am the food was cold, no bacon, had warm the pancakes Ina toaster, the hashbrowns were so full of pepper and garlic it was unbearable. We reserved a king sized bed and tried to check in at 10am. The room wasn't ready so we checked in but left our luggage in our car. We shopped in the city all day and when we returned to the hotel and got our room it was a double bed because they gave our king away. It wasn't bad considering how exhausted we were but felt I needed to let them know of the little problems we had.
Review 43:parking at 3miles. Had to wait 45 minutes for a cab and follow him up to the temporary parking. No frigo in the room..... no complimentary breakfas
Review 44:comfort of rooms Gorgeous view of New York
Review 45:I know he is not hotel staff but the gentleman who runs the gift shop copied down my daughter's visa debit card info & when I went to talk to him he denied it. I recommend people use only cash in the gift shop to avoid this problem.
Review 46:The staff was so friendly & helpful! Our hair dryer wasn't working & once we called they had it fixed in minutes.
Review 47:There's very little around there. The breakfast at the hotel is totally not worth it, sve your money and go elsewhere. G
Review 48:Close to Metlife Stadium, only 5 minutes away.
Review 49:Room was "surface" clean, but needs a thorough cleaning (behind bed/along the carpet borders). Bathroom fixtures need replacements (sink/shower water on/off fixtures)
Review 50:Location and cooperation of staff to make stay comfortable.
Review 51:We encountered an issue with our room being unlocked and door open when returning in the evening from being in NYC all day. We spoke to the manager and all he did was give us passes to breakfast in the hotel lobby. We were very disappointed in the security of our personal belongings only after the 2nd day of our stay (stayed 5 nights) and therefore did not have room serviced again - we had to clean and get new towels, etc. due to the fact that we had no faith in the cleaning group. Extremely disappointed to say the least. And the fact that the manager didn't do anything more than give us breakfast passes - well, another disappointment. The breakfast bar was not good - the fresh fruit and yogurt were NOT kept on ice AND there were gnats all around - it was truly DISGUSTING! I couldn't believe that there were gnats visible on the food and plates/silverware. The food crew did nothing more than remove dirty dishes from the tables once people were finished - had they rotated the food and stirred it - maybe the eggs wouldn't have tasted soooo over done. The room temperature to the breakfast area was so hot - it was like a sauna. It was like no one who worked there noticed any of these issues - which to the normal person were very apparent. Again, another disappointment. The parking situation was a joke! The hotel had barely any spaces available for their guests - and over half the time our vehicle was parked in an office parking lot over a mile away. Was not pleased with the idea of my car not being on the property. Even though the hotel provided a free cab service/shuttle to/from the hotel to your car - it was the least they could do when having to have your guests park offsite. There are no restaurants of convenience stores within a close walking distance from the hotel. The bus pick up/drop off was at the end of the street - however we did not use the bus system - only used the train into the city each day.
Review 52:Leaving for home.
Review 53:Parking is a problem because construction and even though they have a free shuttle to another parking lot. its still an inconv.
Review 54:Charlene at the front desk was amazing. She was great on check in and gave me a roomupgrade. Will def stay here again.
Review 55:Pictures online and the description was deceiving. Ac was out so we had to open the window on the 9th floor to get any cool air and that still wasn't sufficient. Bar area was very nice, but the room wasn't anything I want to pay for again.
Review 56:I didn't like that the parking garage was closed and we were NOT informed when we booked the room at the top dollar rate. We had to park over 2miles away and be shuttled like cattle with other guest. 1 cab trying to shuttle LOTS of guest. One maid was so rude she began room service at 8am entering the rooms and banging on all the doors on the floor. Several guest complain and we later heard her staying "I will be glad when these MF go home" of course several guest reported her!
Review 57:I liked the (2) lady's that ran the Coffee shop/ pizza stand they were Amazing and very nice. Other then that the stay was an absolute nightmare!!!
Review 58:We had to park our car 1 mile away and get picked up by a cab in an open parking lot and brought back to hotel. No service to help with bags and were told if we parked at the curb to unload bags we would be towed! What a joke!!
Review 59:the view was nice
Review 60:They tell you once you arrive they are charging you an extra 50$ that you will get back in 2 weeks. Then after they charge you they tell you could have paid cash and got the 50$ back when you left. Then they apologize and say sorry we forgot to tell you.
Review 61:No water pressure in bathroom sink. Counter in bathroom was cracked and old. Cushioned chair in living area needs to be thrown away.
Review 62:Travel time to New York City is excellent from here. The staff is friendly and the bar is well stocked.
Review 63:I had paid for 9days as I was coming from Africa. first the total price of the hotel was not calculated I ended up paying extra 180 dollars. few days to the end of my stay. the elevators didn't work. the lights in the hotel went off. I had to drag 4 boxes from the 11th floor all the way down. the staff didn't even offer to help and didn't apologize at all for the inconvenience. I would not be recommending this hotel to anyone and I would not be using it again.
Review 64:The cleaning lady was really nice and helpful
Review 65:Parking garage in unavailable and I was not told ahead of time. Had to park far off site and ride a shuttle back to hotel. Often shuttle was unavailable when I needed it. Power was blown on first day checking in which meant elevator, hot water and ac did not work. On the second day, power was restored but room was very hot still. Staff advised me they had switched entire hotel to heat and there would be no ac. Two days later we found out this was a LIE and in fact the ac was damaged when the power blew. I was unhappy with lack of hot water, cool air, etc. But livid over being intentionally lied to. No excuse for that. I was given a very small discount given the inconveniences of my 6 night stay.
Review 66:Room was clean.
Review 67:Unfortunately, the hotel didn't have working phones due to an electricity outage;therefore,we didn't have room service, nor internet, and there was no ice in our floor.
Review 68:All of the above. But especially housekeeping service.
Review 69:The parking was under construction and the place to park wasn't in walking distance but they had a taxi service that was set up & 1 was always waiting up front or close by
Review 70:Nice place with a great views from some rooms ..
Review 71:The staff did not inform us that we would be woken up by jackhammers above our head at 8 in the morning because of renovation on the 12th floor. This was absolutely ridiculous and no one would take blame for this. Not a way to treat your guests.
Review 72:My room was large and delivered as promised. The value was great for the accommodations provided. I also had a view of the NY skyline which was pretty cool especially at night.
Review 73:would not give me one face towel dirty towel left under bed, maid would not even vacuum ice machine was broken internet did not work 70% of the time no heat no screen in windows chair had dirty stains sheets did not look very clean breakfast was not good
Review 74:Easy access to NYC
Review 75:The inconvenience of having to park offsite because of the parking garage was under construction cost me alot of extra money due to not having access to my vehicle. I had to get taxi service for everything and they are expensive around the city
Review 76:We didn't know ahead of time that the parking garage was not usable. They were painting the hallway while we were trying to leave the hotel. Our room didn't have a fridge while my brother's room did
Review 77:The room was nice enough and the bed was very comfortable
Review 78:Great location; close enough to NYC without paying NYC prices! Very easy to get to as well off of the expressway, and we were lucky enough to grab a parking spot and not have to park offsite either!
Review 79:We had two rooms. Both non smoking. One of them, however, smelled heavy to smoke. I complained and there were no more rooms available. The front desk staff told me she would get back to me and never did.
Review 80:The lady at the front desk was really rude with me cause I didnt understand really well her accent. Also, we had a problem with the parking, we were stuck cause of the renovations. We had a room with fogged windows so it was sad. The location, for the price, was kind of far, but it was easy to find a bus, so that was not a problem. The breakfast was really expensive, and the room not that comfortable.
Review 81:The room was big enough, with a TV and good facilities. We arrived early during the day so we found a parking spot easily.
Review 82:Everything else!!1. Room smell leaves grime in mouth 2. NO PARKING 3. Kitchen smelled like DEAD BODIES HAD BEEN THERE 4. Not courteous of guest who want to sleep in..by putting a bus load of children on each side of my room.
Review 83:Charlene is awesome!
Review 84:No parking-had to park off site. No luggage carts-had to make three trips to the 14th floor , The room telephone did not work, had to go from 14th floor to front desk to get anything. No way to heat up my food (special diet). Left my shaving kit in the room. Called the hotel and could not get anyone to tell me whether or not housekeeping had the kit. Still waiting for a return call after three days. Breakfast costs $13.00 and you cannot find a table to eat at. $50.00 deposit required tells me that they must not trust their customers, Staff is so busy they don't have time to take care or the customer (waited for someone to bring carts down to the lobby and they never arrived and waited for an hour for the off site parking in the morning-missed my appointment). Poor location: very heavy traffic on the NJ Turnpike and route 3 make it very difficult to get goat rush hour. The ice maker was broken. The view of Manhattan was supposed to make up for all of the trouble I had parking, getting my luggage up to the 14th floor, having no in room phone, having to go up and down to get ice, having to go to the front desk to get a wake up call; but the window glass was so cloudy and dirty that the view was distorted.
Review 85:Nothing
Review 86:Room furniture was in very poor condition. The room was just shabby. Offsite parking took 26 minutes to get to car. Way too long. There was a construction crew that began at 8:15. No way to sleep nor even watch TV on the room.
Review 87:They were doing construction above my room at 9 am on a Sunday morning. When I called down to 5he front desk he said that he could move us to another room. Who wants to do that when checkout is at 12?
Review 88:Minus the fact the hotel is currently under renovations, the staff failed to inform me there were limited parking spots and I would have to park approx. 1 mile away. However, taxi service was provided free of charge to and from the hotel.
Review 89:Food choices on premise but I was only there overnight to attend a concert so that really wasn't important to me; however a mini mart/liquor store was within walking distance where we bought snacks .. They make sandwiches too
Review 90:Close to MetLife stadium..cab service was available on premise..staff was professional polite & very helpful when addressing questions or concerns
Review 91:No parking
Review 92:Th parking ing area is in renovation so you have to park a mile away and get a taxi back to hotel and in the morning call a taxi to take to the parking terrible I was afraid the taxi van was full of guys I didn't know what to think and in the morning made me late to my appointment no fair for the clients
Review 93:The wifi connection was no very good. Low speed and disconnected often. The parking lot was minimum and had to use an offsite parking calling a taxi to pick me up. Very inconvenient if you are in a rush.
Review 94:The location is quite convenient if you have a car. close to route 3. Don't stay here if you do not have a car, or plan to do tourism in New York.
Review 95:Was not told that the parking garage was out and would have to be shuttled constantly. Very Unhappy. Place needs to be updated or torn down. Faucets leak. Rust all over bathroom. Windows needs replaced. Darkening film completely in disrepare.
Review 96:AC did not work, ,moved to a new room, came back and room smelled like smoke but we do not smoke, in the morning the toilet overflowed for no reason which from talking to other guests happens often.
Review 97:Nice location and staff were very nice.
Review 98:Parking was supposed to be available but wasn't. However a very helpful desk clerk had a restricted area opened for us to park. Others weren't so lucky.
Review 99:There was no onsite parking. We had to take a free taxi (about a mile) to and from the parking area which was not marked or well lit. We arrived back at the hotel after the concert and took the last spot in the lot. I don't know what we would have done if there were no parking spots available. Then we had to wait, in a dark parking lot, for quite a while for the taxi to show up. When it finally did, it was an unmarked car! I was not comfortable with the situation at all! When we were transported otherwise, the vehicles were dirty and smelly. When we checked out of the hotel they tried to overcharge us.
Review 100:We were going to a concert at the Met Life stadium. It was close and easy to get to.
Review 101:What did I like would be a shorter answer. The ice machine on our floor didn't work, the windows had peeling tint and writing all over them, the parking was an absolute NIGHTMARE. we had to park about a mile away and get a free "ride service" which involved packing 10 people into a mini van that comfortably seats six while he drove like a freaking crazy person. The breakfast was non existent which at one point one employee told me was free, another told me it was $13, and another had no idea what I was talking about. Not to mention the stained blankets and non working A/C. glad I got a good price on this site and only needed it for a night.
Review 102:I payed cash for the room and they charged me twice $132.16 and and charge of $182.16 on my card still trying to get that money back not staying there again and I'm telling everyone I know do not stay there.
Review 103:Had to park a mile awsy from hotel. Should tell people before booking. Chould have stayed somewhere else. $200 dollars for a room with beds and bathroom. No microwave or mini fridge. Ice machine not working on our floor. Should i continue?
Review 104:Checkout time
Review 105:No inclusive breakfast and inconvenience of having to park a mile offsite due to parking lot renovations of which we were not aware until arrival. Although the hotel attempted to lessen the inconvenience by having a taxi shuttle service to and from offsite parking, we encountered instances where the taxi vehicles were not identified or labeled in any way. This is dangerous and unacceptable. The taxi drivers were professional and accommodating but no one in there right mind should get into an unmarked vehicle. It was frightening and upsetting to have to call the hotel to verify legitimacy of the vehicle and driver.
Review 106:Although the hotel is a bit outdated and needs a little TLC, the bed was comfortable, the room clean and staff very accommodating
Review 107:Room could use some remodeling
Review 108:Outstanding staff. Very helpful with transportation options to NYC. Bed was very comfortable and the Air Conditioning nice & cold.
Review 109:The room is decent and comfortable however the A/C needs update and electrical ports need to be changed! The fitness room needs maintenance.
Review 110:Good customer service and friendly environment. Parking facilities are improving!
Review 111:1 coffee mug and 1 tumbler for 4 people? Seriously I had to keep asking for a mug and a couple cups. This is the only complaint I have.
Review 112:Check in was a breeze and the desk was very helpful. Housekeeping was great too!
Review 113:My debit MasterCard which I used for the booking was not accepted at the hotel check-in desk. Was asked to use another MasterCard which I did. Incidentally both MasterCards were pre-authorized thus making it impossible for me to have access to my funds. The matter was not resolved early by the hotel or booking.com The matter is yet to be fully resolved up till now after returning to my country Nigeria.
Review 114:The building is really showing it's age and someone told me that things aren't being fixed. I guess that is why weeds are around the pool and wall paper is coming off many places.
Review 115:Staff was tremendous, especially Shay.
Review 116:Not enough parking for all guests since their parking garage is under construction. You have to park over a mile away and shuttle back and forth which is very inconvenient!grout in bathroom shower was disgusting!
Review 117:The bathtub drain clogged during the shower and then burped up lots of dirt and nasty stuff. The lobby is quite run down. No parking.
Review 118:They allowed us to end our stay early without an additional charge.
Review 119:They had offsite parking. Had to get a shuttle from a lot over a mile away. We were not notified prior to our stay. The room was dirty and the shower was disgusting.
Review 120:The location close to Metlife Stadium
Review 121:The borders of the rooms along the walls were disgusting, the ac vents were terribly dusty and dirty, the ac only went down to 72 making the room barely cool. The showers had weak pressure. The parking situation was not optimal and confusion during their garage renovation.
Review 122:The location is great, close to most things. Staff was great.
Review 123:I did not like the broken fixtures in the room and having to always go two floors up for ice. I
Review 124:The ease of being able to take the bus from the hotel to NYC.
