Reviews for University Inn
Review 1:Kitchenette worked out well for shared breakfast with three others from our party. Location was reasonably close to our function venue near the campus.
Review 2:I booked this hotel for a 2 week business trip. This hotel is not equipped to handle a traveler arriving with more than 1 bag. The front door wouldn't hold open, there is no elevator and the staff wanted to put me up on the 3rd floor (with 4 bags). Housekeeping only comes once a week when you book for this length of time. They came a day late, did not change the linens or vacuum\sweep. They replaced the towels and made the bed only. I checked out after 5 nights (vs the 12 that I booked) and checked into the Marriott.
Review 3:The bed was comfortable.
Review 4:The University in is a minimal place. That means it has not a lot of frills. We had a queen bed and a chair and table. However, the bed was comfortable, the room quiet, the staff excellently helpful--the young woman desk clerk even brushed the snow from our car--the cost is good and for us the location is excellent. I can recommend this place without hesitation.
Review 5:It was hard to figure out how to get in because the entrance was locked and although we were told there was staff at the front desk 24/7 there rarely was anyone there when we were coming and going. Also, things were not functional, plugged in, or ready to go in the rooms at check in. Also, the towels we put on the floor did not get replaced.
Review 6:Very badly worn carpet in room 103. There were sharp staples poking through at the transition between the tile floor in the entry and the main room. We notified the front desk.
Review 7:Friendly Staff. Nice coffee machine. Good location and comfortable. We've stayed there many times and probably will continue to despite my negative comment above.
Review 8:my toilet paper holder was broken and kept falling off the wall.
Review 9:very close to my daughters sorority house and close to campus. I liked the mini kitchen and the coffee in the lobby
Review 10:Hotel is clean, rooms are spacious, parking is free and WiFi is fast. Reception staff makes you feel like at home. Proximity of University of Minessota makes it a perfect spot for anyone who wants to visit it during the stay. Every room has a small kitchen with a big fridge. I had enjoyable stay there.
Review 11:In Minneapolis for customer visits and two day trade show. This was a good location. Walked to Dinky Town and Hennepin Ave nightlife and shopping during the evening. Some other reviews talked of the dormitory style building and it is like that but the staff is very helpful, the facility is clean, the coffee machine makes very good coffee and the location is great.
Review 12:I was there to take my granddaughter and her friends to a concert at Varsity Theater. The hotel was so close to the theater, and it was neat and clean and the staff were so FRIENDLY. I would HIGHLY recommend it.
Review 13:The staff advised me that they would be changing locations! The location they occupy now is situated rather excellent for it's view of downtown and access to the highway. I also enjoyed fewer students then closer to campus where the staff say they will be moving
Review 14:The staff were superb!
Review 15:No ice. Ice machine broken. Little pricey. Felt like rates were up do to a football weekend. AC never got the room cool enough.
Review 16:Quiet. Walking distance to campus. Clean. Lots of good bars/restaurants close by.
Review 17:We were on the lower level and the a/c unit was above at ground level so I was unable to even turn on or adjust it without standing on a chair. Should include a step stool in those rooms.
Review 18:We were disappointed, when making the reservation, to learn that there was no breakfast served at the Inn, but decided to stay there anyway, and then found that the foods available in the lobby for purchase (packets of instant oatmeal and yogurt, among many choices) could be combined into a very adequate breakfast.
Review 19:We liked everything about this place (except for the breakfast issue; see other comment). The location was fabulous, with interesting walking around the university neighborhoods, plus lots of eating options. Parking at the Inn was plentiful, staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was spacious, attractive, and well-equipped. We will definitely stay there again.
Review 20:After my 10-year-old son and I unpacked and were ready for bed, I founda used condom on the floor. I had already searched nearby hotels and norooms were available. We arrived late in the evening and therefore werenot able to leave, otherwise I would have. The woman at the deskapologized and went up to "clean" the room for us. But Inoticed in the morning that someone's old fruit had been left in therefrigerator. I will never stay there again.
Review 21:I was in town for my son's appointment at the University of mnDiscovery Clinic. The location of the University Inn was very convenientfor our purpose.
Review 22:No bad experiences at all. Just a little updating would be greatly appreciated.
Review 23:The staff was incredible! From check in, to a late night ice need, to forgetting something in the room after we left, the staff was so helpful and friendly.
Review 24:We have stayed here many times and there have been a time or two when the Frat across the street has been loud. But that is not usually the case
Review 25:Convenient location for us when we come to the Twin Cities.
Review 26:Building is old. Not a luxury hotel. No outdoor seating. basic Lobby. We were rarely in the hotel.
Review 27:Great area.. walking distance to food and the football stadium.
Review 28:Would have liked to have more breakfast items that I didn't have to buy. Cost was low though.
Review 29:Cost and the staff was always friendly and helpful. Good place to stay.
Review 30:The feeling of comfort , our home away from home. Also we knew if there was anything we needed or had a question someone was always available to help.
Review 31:The price is somehow high than the other hotels.
Review 32:I like the Kitchen which is in the room, we were going for BBQ, and we needed a place where I can prepare the chicken and marinate it. I like the room as well, and the awesome coffee machine in the lobby, I have been there for three times, and every time I go to MN I will stay there :)
Review 33:Old food and drink left in fridge, broken toilet paper holder, everything in room was soggy. Paid for the location and I am sorry I did.
Review 34:Near the U of M campus.
Review 35:The building itself is not very attractive - a lot of cinderblock.
Review 36:Very well located - really the only game in town in University City - and very nice facilities and staff. Good bed, nice TV, plenty of parking in an area where parking can be tricky. And an extraordinary value.
Review 37:I like a bar in house. Oh well ;-)
Review 38:It was a very cool little room. We only stayed for 1 night after a concert but for a longer stay, the kitchen is awesome!! We will definitely stay again.
Review 39:The carpet was not clean. The was trash under the table as well as under the bed. Stains on one of the sheets.
Review 40:What I liked about this place is the value of the money. Better than a motel and cheaper than a hotel. Enjoyed the free coffee machine cup of coffee every morning.
Review 41:The toilet had not been cleaned. There was toilet paper in the water and the porcelain was soiled. A flush took care of that. But clearly someone did not do a complete job of cleaning the room. However everything else was just fine and it would not stop me from staying again.
Review 42:Location and price (got a deal)
Review 43:Nothing bad at all. I do think I left my retainer in the bathroom and contacted the front desk upon my return to California. I would really love if the cleaning staff took a close look to see if I left it Sunday Aug 2, in Rm 205. Michele Korb
Review 44:Loved the location, the ease of coming and going and that I could just chill when needed.
Review 45:Price was a little spendy- could perhaps add some sort of complimentary breakfast and or lower the pricing for the rooms.
Review 46:Perfect location in proximity to TCF stadium. Clean and comfortable rooms. Pleasant staff.
Review 47:The room looked as though it hasn't been properly cleaned. Upon arrival, we walked into the room and found the trash can under the sink was full to the top with microwaveable food packaging. The carpet was not vacuumed as there were paper pieces and other on it. We saw an open safety pin in the middle of the kitchen floor so it appears it wasn't cleaned/swept either. The carpet, where it meets the kitchen floor, was torn open, the smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling from its wires, the outlet near the refrigerator had a broken cover, the toilet tissue roll was near empty. We called the desk asking for a new roll and was told to come to the desk and get one. Not a great experience.
Review 48:The bed was made. The front desk people were friendly and helpful.
Review 49:The kitchen counter in my suite had not been cleaned. This was the first thing I saw, which was unfavorable. However, the rest of my stay was favorable. I would come back again.
Review 50:I appreciated the location, free parking, close access to 35W, very pleasant and helpful front desk staff.
Review 51:The parking lot is small, and we ended up parking at the end of the row (not blocking traffic though!) and hoped that we wouldn't find a ticket in the morning -- maybe isn't a problem if you arrive before 8:30 or 9:00. One of the questions in this survey asked about breakfast -- we didn't know breakfast was available (unless it was the yogurt and string cheese and oatmeal packets available for purchase...). Initially, I thought the rate was reasonable, but after staying, I feel like it was a little over-priced.
Review 52:The hotel easy to find and appeared clean and well-cared for. The kitchenette in the room was nice, but we just needed a place to sleep on this trip so the full-size frig was underutilized. Nice to have a variety of food items available for purchase in the lobby.
Review 53:Odd, cramped property next to highway; outside made the place look decrepit.
Review 54:Location was close to plenty of downtown spots, lobby and rooms were clean and inviting, and staff was courteous and informative.
Review 55:I was traveling with my partner when had knee surgery a few days ago. They wanted to give us a room on the 2nd floor, and there is no elevator. We then got a room in the basement with fewer steps to go down, but it was very smelly. The carpet had large stains, and the previous occupant had left two empty coke bottles under the desk that hadn't been removed by the cleaning crew. Staff sprayed Febreze on the carpet which left it wet to walk on and seemed like they could hardly care less. We also found pubic hair in the shower. If I pay $150 incl taxes for a double room that isn't downtown, I'd like a better experience than this.
Review 56:The kitchen facilities in the room were good, the beds comfortable, and the WiFi fast.
Review 57:The room seemed a little moldy, maybe just hadn't been aired out, it was totally tolerable.
Review 58:The front staff was helpful, courteous and actually made the experience really comfortable, like home. Felt safe, nice and quiet.
Review 59:No continental breakfast, however, the rooms are equipped with everything you need to make your own.
Review 60:Kitchen and full-sized fridge make for an excellent prolonged stay.
Review 61:Convenience, amenities, cleanliness, the kitchen helped us to save money while there. The friendliness and helpfulness of staff, they went above and beyond
Review 62:I dont' have anything.
Review 63:The room was basically a studio apt, and was what I needed for the wknd. The location was perfect from Ridder Arena and 35W. The staff went above what I expected, pleasant, smiling, and always making sure I had that I needed.
Review 64:We thought the photo of the motel was deceiving. Upon stepping inside we realized it was not of the quality we anticipated. The lobby was not inviting. There was no elevator and there were large wear holes in the hallway carpet.
Review 65:Proximity to the University Medical facilities was a plus. The receptionist referred us to Dinkytown for dinner. It was ok for casual dining but lacked fine dining establishments which we were hoping for.
Review 66:Near interstate and was noisy. Carpet was dirty and should be cleaned or replaced. Walls could use some touch-up painting and windows should be replaced. Staff were not very professional and should take a lesson in hospitality from Marriott.
Review 67:Close to campus
Review 68:There are no signs. We drove around it quite a few times before we realized where it was. Also sign in room that they clean room like every two days so we put do not disturb sign on and when we returned paper under door that they did not clean as we had sign out. Would have been nice to come back to beds made and bathroom picked up!
Review 69:The tea bags were not replaced. The University Inn parking lot was difficult to find - especially in the evening.
Review 70:I liked the helpfulness of the staff.
Review 71:I already knew my way, roughly, around Minneapolis, but a bus schedule in the lobby or at the front desk would be nice in addition to clearer/larger maps in the information book in the room.
Review 72:Close to Dinky Town and a great bus route, this hotel offers services unavailable at some of the fancier hotel chains. For instance, a free computer to use for the internet, an in-suite fridge and kitchen to use with included pots, pans, cutlery, and a toaster, free parking next to the building... My friend and I had just come from Chicago and had stayed in the Hilton and were not impressed with how many extra charges came into account, such as parking, no fridge/mini-bar, charges for local phone calls, charges for in-suite computer internet... So yes, we certainly enjoyed the contrast of excellent services offered at the University Inn in Minneapolis!
Review 73:This is a comfortable place to stay in the Dinky Town area of Minneapolis. It is an easy walk to the Stone Arch Bridge and, in the opposite direction, a large collection of places to eat. My wife and I really liked the Camdi restaurant, which looks like a little hole in the wall but serves excellent Vietnamese cuisine as well as Thai and Chinese at very inexpensive prices. The staff at the University Inn were always friendly and helpful.
Review 74:the smoke alarm was missing a battery. And carpets where a little dingy. Staff seemed a bit uninterested but friendly.
Review 75:The room was very comfortable and very convenient to the university.
Review 76:a pool and workout area are always nice. I did not realize there was no pool when I booked.
Review 77:she was helpful above and beyond just the hotel, helped us with transportation schedules and checked with us when we got back to see how things went. Bikes available just up the street at the Library and buses run right past hotel.
Review 78:the lady at the front desk view to downtown, location (proximity to university campus/mississippi river/downtown) room for work out free cappucino/coffee/tea ...
Review 79:The carpet was worn in one spot and we needed to fix it so that our infant grandaughter didn't injure herself, but the staff was very accomodating with pproviding assistnace for a temporary fix.
Review 80:We needed to be clsoe to the university and its proximity to I-35 was great. Quiet hotel. good value
Review 81:The only thing I could say was that the bathroom door in our room didn't lock like it should but that wasn't a big deal.
Review 82:We were in town visiting the University and the location was great. It was so nice to have a full kitchen, especially staying four days. We could come back to the room to eat and save some money. When we did go out, there were many restaurants within walking distance which was a definite plus. When we went sightseeing it was great being close to downtown and not fighting the traffic farther out. The room was a good size and the beds were comfortable. The Wi-Fi was free and worked great. Parking was also free. I had looked at other hotels close to downtown and they charged extra for both of those. The front desk and cleaning staff were very friendly, always a smile and greeting. We will definitely stay here again.
Review 83:when I called about transportation options the person on desk that day told me to take a taxi. It cost $50. But another staff person helped me with bus and light rail to return to airport and that cost $2.50. It would be helpful to have all staff aware of different modes of transportation than just taxis
Review 84:the room was comfortable and clean.
Review 85:Pleasant engaging staff were tops ! The kitchenette with big fridge and a stove to cook a bit, saved from going out for all meals. The location was great felt like I was back in school ! could breathe in the fresh air and feel the tension go out of my body walking in the neighbourhood which is filled with rambling student residences, trees and lawns.Fun place to stay !
Review 86:Rooms are a bit snug, but space is used very efficiently.
Review 87:Great location. Coffee was great. Loved having a kitchen. Close to UofM and the Greenway. Free parking and right on the #6 bus line is a huge plus.
Review 88:I do think the room is overpriced, however. The university area is expensive, but the room still could have cost less.
Review 89:The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, and the location felt safe, secure, and close enough to downtown. Although, I did have a car to drive the couple miles to downtown when I needed to. My room was very clean, as well.
Review 90:Heater fan was very loud--turned heat off in the middle of the night so we could sleep.
Review 91:Whole motel was very clean and well kept!
Review 92:Everything was fine
Review 93:A nice place. Close to everything.
Review 94:Did not clean rooms for second night.

Review 100:Coffee machine kept breaking down
Review 101:Nice room great location nicestaff
Review 102:We didn't have an ice bucket in our room and the hallway carpet was pretty worn.
