Reviews for Northside Motel - Williamstown
Review 1:Not convenient for museums in Stockbridge
Review 2:Convenient for several museums. Got good directions for leaf peeping drives. Room was large, bathroom was large.
Review 3:Overall design, construction and detailing leave a lot to be desired. But the lack of sophistication keeps the place cheap. If you want something more in harmony with the gorgeous surroundings, look elsewhere. And be prepared to pay two to four times as much per night.
Review 4:Value. Very inexpensive. Wifi. TV with lots of channels. Comfortable bed. Clean room.
Review 5:Room could have been a little cleaner - obvious stuff on an ottoman, dust on dresser drawers. Late night music from guests(?) Needed more shade from lights: curtains did not block enough light
Review 6:Good value, location. Man at the desk was very friendly. No traffic noise. Actually had more than one table for breakfast. Sort of updated rooms - carpet and curtains were nice
Review 7:We like the convenience of location, the value and Vinnie's pleasant attention to his guests. This was our 3rd time here and look forward to many more stays.
Review 8:Musty, mildew odor in the room, the prongs on the hairdryer provided as well as those on the in-room coffee maker could not be plugged in to the outlets (3 prong appliance, 2 prong outlet), 'tacky' and worn reception area, breakfast (very minimal) items were not restocked without request (e.g., coffee, milk for coffee, cups, fruit).
Review 9:Cost, proximity to our event, space in the room, comfortable bed, sitting area outside our room door.
Review 10:The beds and pillows were uncomfortable. The room had a musty smell to it. The bathroom was so small you couldn't shower and get dressed in it. The room had tiny tv with hardly any channels. The pool was growing mold. Stair way to our room on the second floor was so narrow you could hardly walk up it with a bag in your hands. We had stayed in the pass in a different room that had upgrades and the room we had this time was horrible. We will not stay here again
Review 11:The location was close to where we needed to be.
Review 12:The whole property is in desperate need of a renovation. Every single detail (smell in the room, old bed, semi broken furniture, toilet in bad condition, breakfast insufficient and on dirty tables, wifi almost unusable) was mediocre, even though it was not a life threatening experience.
Review 13:Very close to the university in Williamstown (the whole campus is a few hundred yards, anyways), just in front of the police station. The rooms are relatively inexpensive (compared to other properties in the Berkshires).
Review 14:Dusty loud ac located directly over bed, attic like location ofroom, dingy towels in the bathroom, wifi did not work ,refrigerator undera sloping ceiling makes you have to stoop to put anything in (I am5'2'). overrall a very bad experience
Review 15:Close proximity to williams College
Review 16:Our room had a stale, musty smell. Everything seemed old, drab and outdated, not crisp and clean (the curtains, the bedspreads, the carpeting). Too expensive for what we got. The pool looked murky, tired, old and torn astroturf surrounding pool, not inviting at all.
Review 17:Good location and courteous reception.
Review 18:The towels were thin and rough. (I will stay there again but I will bring my own towels.)
Review 19:Friendly and accommodating staff, within walking distance to Williams College, spacious and inexpensive. Although the building is old, it's obvious that they renovated the motel and tried very hard to keep it nice and clean.
Review 20:The room smells musty. There was a stain on our linen. The sink in the bathroom didn't drain and the water pressure for the shower was not good at all.
Review 21:The price. Has a pool.
Review 22:Chamber service was terrible. No wifi as promised. Mold in air conditioning and in unventilated bathroom. Hair logged sink. Faulty railing. One rm. had no dresser to unpack suitcase.
Review 23:Close to my family. Price was good.
Review 24:most of my room was under eaves, there was no nightstand or bedside light - I had to rig this up with a chair. It was 3 flights up, walking. The A/C worked but was right over the bed. Bath small but clean, sink tiny, lighting good there, tub ok water hot. The whole place could use a rehab but it was adequate, for the price.
Review 25:location location location. I could walk to town and the theater, it was easy to find driving in to town. For the price it was adequate.
Review 26:I got a room that was clearly redone recently--well appointed. Better on the inside of the room than the exterior of the hotel, hallway, and lobby suggested it would be.
Review 27:Because the drapes covered the air conditioner, they couldn't be closed fully.
Review 28:We've rarely encountered such friendly and pleasant staff! The room was not fancy or luxurious, but that's not why we booked it. It was clean; it was comfortable; and it was conveniently located.
Review 29:You get what you pay for. It was perfectly adequate for a place to park ourselves while visiting the town but certainly no frills.
Review 30:The location and staff were great. The room was clean and large.
Review 31:I arrived needing to use the toilet, and when I lifted the lid, there were two ants circling the rim of the toilet bowl just under the seat. Despite the placement of an ant trap in the bathroom, I saw three other ants in the bathroom during the course of my three-night stay. In addition, there was a dead bee next to one of the floor lamps in plain sight. I stayed here almost 20 years ago when conducting my college visits, and other than the replacement of CRT TVs with an LCD/plasma screen, the room felt as if it hadn't changed in 20 years. My friend and I booked the room for a three-night stay. He chose to pay to stay in a college dorm room after the first night and did not place any of his belongings in the room (other than himself, when he slept on the bed).
Review 32:The folks behind the desk are friendly. The bed was comfortable. WiFi worked reliably. The location is very convenient to the college, Spring St., the Clark Art Institute, etc.
Review 33:We had an upstairs room which was musty and full of what seemed to us unsafe visibly strung electrical wiring. This room should not be rented to anyone....we requested a change and our second night was better. But breakfast was poor.
Review 34:This facility is ideally located near the Theater and the Clark Museum and the downtown restaurants...it did not measure up to its surroundings.
Review 35:Some rumour from other guests. Bathroom was not modernised yet.
Review 36:Great location. Rooms are nicely modernised, with nice furniture. I loved the desk chair.
Review 37:Reseptionist that night was the owner i lost my way so it was 10 pm when i checked in. He told me i need to pay 20$ more and get 1 queen 1 full cause the room i booked has been given to another. Then i booked thru website shazam i was able to ger 2 queen for only 5$ more. So dishonesty i really dont like. So be careful. Always check thru booking.com
Review 38:It's def good for the price. Spacious rooms, nice toilotteries.
Review 39:having to repair bed, room was unclean, toilet leaked, towels were not clean, housekeeping was poor, room was dingy, lobby was decrepit and smelt of curry, pool was filthy.
Review 40:location, chairs on porch outside of room, fridge in room
Review 41:The decor is very, very old. This could be a great place if some revenue is put into modernizing the facilities.
Review 42:The location....across the street from Williams College.
Review 43:Room tiny, dark, smelled foul and the bed and pillows were so hard thatwe literally barely slept all night. The first time I have ever left ahotel early
Review 44:It was well situated in center of WIlliamstown
Review 45:The management is pretty poor. I asked them the quietest room but got the one facing a construction site. They mixed things up and reported booking.com a no show with a cancellation fee of $75. Took me a lot of trouble to settle the issue down.
Review 46:Location is next to Williams College. They allowed us to check out two hrs later.
Review 47:Facilities are aging. Cleaning service was spotty. Towels were rough and too few. Lighting and ventilation in bathroom was inadequate.
Review 48:Conveniently located
Review 49:but there were some problems: the room I was in smelled strongly of mildew, twice I found a live ant crawling on the bed-covers, and both the telephone and the overhead light did not work when i arrived--only the latter got fixed before I left after four days.
Review 50:Location was fantastic--in walking distance of just about everything worth seeing in Williamstown--and the service was friendly.
Review 51:2 major problems: (1) toilet is set in tight corner with almost no roomto sit down and (2) the dead-bolt lock in the door would not work.
Review 52:Good location, reasonable price.
Review 53:Bathroom, especially, needed upkeep attention. Had it not been next to police station, I think I would have felt unsafe!
Review 54:Staff were helpful and the motel was inexpensive. Bed was fine. I got what I paid for.
Review 55:De gordijnen stonken naar urine, de eigenaar zei dat het naar chloorax rook, niettemin wij hebben het bed ver opgeschoven van het venster weg. Zeker geen aanrader. Het motel verdient een frisse opknapbeurt
Review 56:No WiFi. Deadbolt did not work. Property is old and in disrepair but could be a goldmine if they updated the rooms. Paint, etc would help a lot.
Review 57:The price was good, Location great.
Review 58:No coffee pot. I bought coffee to make my own cause I know I drink a lot. After the lady said he'd get me one. He couldn't find one. But there only ten bucks at dollar general up the road. I guess they are taken frequently so they remove them from the room, and it's close to Lake Erie.
Review 59:The manager was nice and tried to be accommodating.
Review 60:my friends and I were staying at Northside Motel, first of all is about shower, it's cold knob wasn't right and no cold water but it's only hot water, second thing was no fan in bathroom require the fan , and third things was about bed was very closer with heat system that not safety. fourth things were about the bed was uncomfortable also the pillows were thin. the price were ripped it off , $125 per night with sale taxes that not right and everything look not good and almost forget about television were very limited of the channel. to be honest with about our feeling were disaifation with their service. thanks. Respect Regarding,Bill
Review 61:The room smelled musty but once we opened up the windows the smell cleared up
Review 62:The room was very comfortable and large. Was shocked how big it was for such a small price
Review 63:I have terminal cancer and asked for a first floor room. Upon check in found out that the first floor was closed. Had to go up a flight of uneven stairs and was in agony when I reached my floor. Also, no continental breakfast as advertised.
Review 64:The beds were clean.
Review 65:The pictures did not match the facility. From the entry way to the rooms, this is not the same hotel. It is shabby and unkept with extension cords ruining along walls. The reception was indifferent at best.
Review 66:The location was ideal for visiting Williams and the surrounding area.
Review 67:The man that ran this motel was very concerned about our comfort. He also gave my son and I some good suggestions for places to see nearby. The beds were very comfortable and the location extremely quiet.
Review 68:The motel is dirty, the walls are thin, and the lamp didn't work in my room. To their credit, they did fix the lamp after I reported it.
Review 69:Location is great -- right next to the Greylock Quad of Williams College. The wifi worked as expected. It's very inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.
Review 70:What's not to like? :-)
Review 71:Great value: an inexpensive, clean, comfortable, attractive room with two beds, large screen cable TV & WiFi, right beside the Williams College campus (and City Hall and the Public Library).
Review 72:The attitude of the staff was awful when we discovered that neither of our two rooms had any working heating and the outside temperature was very low. They could not have been less bothered and we were not allowed to see or speak to the manager. No discount or apology was given by the receptionist. The food and eating area were also v basic.
Review 73:The bed was comfortable and location good.
Review 74:The motel is very old fashioned but the room was surprisingly more modern than the general facilities including reception and dining/ breakfast area which really needed a very serious make-over. The bed had a blanket with a few holes and cleaning of the bathroom could be improved. Stains could be observed inside of toilet bowl looking from the shower and the grout joint at bathtub (under the pipe) could do with some extra bleaching to remove mildew. Other that that grout joint, bath was modern and clean. Towels were also in excellent condition. The worn, stained and dirty carpet on the floor of the reception including dining/ breakfast area is unacceptable, it badly needs changing. The continental breakfast was minimal and very basic. On my first morning, there was no fruits at all. I complained and was told that fruits are only on weekends. On Saturday and Sunday, there were apples and bananas. It is so close to the Williams College Campus and Spring Street with an array of places to eat that the food/ breakfast should not be an issue. Management was friendly and responsive. I would probably stay there again because of location.
Review 75:The location of this motel was great for me because it is just across the street from Williams College. I was there to attend Parents' weekend and the proximity made it easy to participate in the various activities.
Review 76:Room seemed a bit cold and damp at first but soon warmed up. Bathroom was very small.
Review 77:Clean economical accommodation. Easy parking and walking distance to town.
Review 78:Bed bugs! I stayed at the room on 2nd floor right above the office and facing the main road. I woke up the next morning and noticed a red dot on my arm. At the end of the day they came out very red and very itchy. No wonder there are a bed bugs. Extremely poor breakfast
Review 79:Old motel with classic furniture, it is cheap and that's all. Not far from town for dining.
Review 80:Nothing. The facility in not well maintaing and needs serious upgrading.
Review 81:The room smelled very bad. Also, the clerk at the front desk was disinterested and not very friendly.
Review 82:The breakfast area was dirty and in poor shape. It needs major renovations. The coffee was in a thermos and was lukewarm. The food was minimal and remained there for days.
Review 83:The bed was very comfortable and the area was quiet.
Review 84:Musty odor in the room, toilet flush weak
Review 85:Located in Williamstown so you can easily walk there and not drive for dinner and drinks. Good value for money and includes a continental breakfast. Has a pool and WIFI (although we did not use these)
Review 86:On arrival the reception did not live up to the brochure, the breakfast area equipment - toaster, & floor covering etc were stained and dirty. The area outside the room was untidy and one of the residents/guest was using a BBQ outside his room. We felt unsafe and found alternative accommodation for the night.
Review 87:Nothing
Review 88:Motel is very dated. Everything, except the television, looks old and worn down. Room had a strong old odor that couldn't be dispersed by having the windows open and fan on. Soap was the only toiletry provided and tissues were nowhere to be found.
Review 89:Excellent location at the south end of the campus and a short drive to the Clark Art Institute. Hotel is dated but price for a mid-week stay was low. Room was clean and outfitted with plenty of towels and coffee maker.
Review 90:Rooms need serious overhauls-vintage furniture kind of cool, ugly wallborders and art, not so much. Bathroom very small. Parking layout needs to be reworked.
Review 91:got a great 2 for 1 rate on the room, location near the Clark, Williams College and nearby MASS MoCA was perfect
Review 92:The space was very old and outdated. The room had old-style electrical outlets so my three-pronged plug couldn't be used in the room.
Review 93:Close parking to my room.
Review 94:A little rustic but for the price I will not complain.
Review 95:Location, right next to campus. Last minute reservation at very low price. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 96:The rooms are outdated, but serve my purpose. Wasn't looking for a luxury resort. Just a place to sleep and bathe.
Review 97:More than adequate for the price.
Review 98:Not updated, at least the rooms we've stayed in. Not enough power outlets. Some of the outlets did not work or were so old and over used that our laptop and phone plugs would sag and fall out onto the floor.
Review 99:Northside is the most convenient motel to the Williams College campus. The staff are so nice. Parking is easy and off street. We've stayed there 8 times so far.
Review 100:Listed as offering wifi-wifi never would connect; horrible musty smell the entire 3 nights-had to go the grocery at 10:30 pm to purchase candles on the first night because the smell was unbearable; cleanliness was poor-there was a black ring on the shower curtain, hair in the tub, overall dirty and found bugs indoors.
Review 101:The staff at the front desk was very nice. The location to Main Street was nice and convenient.
Review 102:Despite the low price, and despite the reviews, which to me are shockingly good, this is a 1 star motel. The reviews may lead you to expect (hope) for more. Don't.
Review 103:Low price.
Review 104:no microwave, refrigerator small,no shade in bathroom curtain torn, poor lighting in parking lot,not enough parking spaces, bathroom small, moth ball smells in room, ice machine outside not hooked up,pool in bad shape,no clock in room, coffee machine too small for anything
Review 105:although the complimentary breakfast is a bonus the eating area needs some serious updating please get rid of the stained rug it's Unappetizing
Review 106:My room was clean, had plenty of hot water and I had a good night's sleep. staff was accommodating when I needed to change my booking.com reservation at the last minute. Keep in mind if you want 4 stars you have to go pay for 4 stars, this place was perfect for my budget.
Review 107:Cramped quality to the room. Not much connection with staff. Everything very worn and old. Very tired bedspreads.
Review 108:The location is perfect for the Williamstown Theatre and the little shops etc. on the main street. Close enough to The Clark Gallery as well. The motel itself is old and slightly scruffy. It is what it is for what you pay. It's a good deal if you are not too fussed about decor and externals.
Review 109:See above.
Review 110:I would only say that reviews that described this place as "clean and comfortable," along with Bookings 3 stars are quite misleading. This is a 1 star motel - period. It was really run down, and even though I can't say that it was dirty, it certainly felt dirty. I don't know what other motels in this very inexpensive category are like. Perhaps they are the same. But if you can afford to stay elsewhere, do so - unless you really are fine with a clearly low rent motel.
Review 111:pool was not open
Review 112:New furniture, very comfortable bed with enough blankets, overall a cozy room. The staff let me use their phone to call home as we had no cell phone signal.
Review 113:Mold & mildew on shower curtain. Large patch of bed spread melted from previous guest evidently setting the hot flat iron on it both items were still in place as if they'd be used.Food left in the mini fridge probably the maid/owners leftovers from lunch, Gross!!
Review 114:Location,safe being next door to police station. Available last minute, Allowed to bring my bike into the first floor room, nice breeze through large windows and sheets were white & clean,
Review 115:the use of disposable dishes at breakfast with no visible possibility for recycling them
Review 116:I liked the price for what I received - good bed, spacious room, little fridge, internet, clean sheets/towels... great location for dropping off my son at Williams College
Review 117:vinyl furniture, substandard inadequate fluorescent lighting, one lamp did not have an extension cord so it was useless, very average tv. Dark and noisy room right on the street. Noisy window ac
Review 118:Comfortable double bed, shower clean, plenty of warm water, towels
Review 119:Needs an upgrade very badly. Overall appearance is very shabby, and the room had mismatched and old pieces of furniture.
Review 120:The location, comfortable bed.
Review 121:Rooms smell and have not be touched or fixed up to look better. Breakfast is ridiculous, very little choice. Minimal staff. No one overseeing breakfast. Microwave in an area different from the tiny breakfast area. Hotel appears to be run by teenagers who do the front desk and gardening
Review 122:Location is great backside of Williams College
Review 123:Looked nothing like the pictures old and smelly. No air conditioning, couldn't see the cable tv. It was the worst place I ever stayed. Complaining to booking didn't help they talk to a 14 old kid who was working there. I will never use booking. Com or recommend this disgusting place.
Review 124:Nothing Yuck!!
Review 125:Place needs total remodeling. Third floor shouldn't be used. Felt totally unsafe. Hand written sign that Leeds to a room that looks creepy at best identifies a fire exit. Where does this lead? Arrived late and very tired but we couldn't sleep in this unsafe room. The bed was comfortable and reasonably clean but not a place I could have slept well in. We spoke to a person who I believe is the owner about our concerns but it fell on deaf ears. We found ourselves without a place to sleep and out $130.00.
Review 126:Nothing.
Review 127:The pool was not too clean.. The ice machine barely generated ice. Furthermore, it was located outside, and there were insects in the ice. The toilet took some time to flush and refill. Also, it was noisy. The lighting in the room was dim.
Review 128:The housekeeping staff struck me as friendly and competent. I liked the fact that this was clearly a family-owned business with family members staffing the desk. The location definitely was good.
Review 129:The building is old, the floor creaked and the door stuck a bit. Great value for the money!
Review 130:Bed was comfortable and the location was excellent for what I needed a room for. Great value for the money.
Review 131:The lobby is outdated, neglected, totally uninviting and to boot unpleasant staff who could care less about your arrival or needs. I asked for my room not to be sprayed with chemicals but my request was ignored. While the room is poorly decorated, there was some attempt to update it. All together the room is not in iting. I was happy to go on my way in the morning and return as late as possible to shower and sleep. The bathroom while clean is much too small and uncomfortable with no spac.
Review 132:The location is the best part of the deal. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 133:4:30 am wake-up call never came, Room never vacuumed during our 4 night stay, Continental breakfast was only cereal, bread and apples. Really lacking.
Review 134:Location, price, staff friendly and helpful
Review 135:The grounds could use some spruicing up. While the pool is beautiful, the landscape and driveway needs work. The smell in the room was a bit "New England summer musty", but the AC helped a lot with that.
Review 136:Room had everything needed - comfy bed, good lighting, AC, easy access, wifi, TV, space. For a very reasonable price in walking distance from the center of this beautiful college town in the Berkshires. Even included breakfast! I rather liked the old-fashioned motel feel.
Review 137:We were on the third floor, #334, w/no elevator. the room was compact--not too small--with a comfortable king-size bed, ample pillows and air-conditioning that worked. the bathroom was a good size, but needed updating, particularly the bath/shower. modest number of cable stations [less than a dozen, i think]. wifi didn't work very well at first but then was fine for watching netflix, etc,on an ipad. Nice mini-frige. Location was great, right across from Williamstown theatres and short walk to restaurants on Spring Street. Breakfast room was kind of dreary--better lighting needed--but coffee was fine, though we brought the rest ourselves and there were toasters to use.
Review 138:The room smelled of deodorizer that was so powerful, it was obviously being used to cover up something more unpleasant. The room was drab and dingy. During check in the process was interrupted twice while desk person disappeared without any acknowledgement of his purpose. Overall, a most unpleasant experience. I will not go back.
Review 139:The worst room I have ever stayed in. The ceiling tiles were literally falling off and filthy. The floor was uneven the furniture horrible. The fridge would not plug into the wall. Terrible smell of mould.
Review 140:Wifi was good. Staff pleasant.
Review 141:The smell of the room the minute we opened the door the room had a disgusting smell we only stayed as it was late and we had 2 kids with us. There was an awful chemical smell of room not worth the money.
Review 142:Hotel location
