Reviews for Hotel Providence
Review 1:Restaurant owner manager did not Need to let us know what a terrible mess previous owner left for hm as we are about to order. Bartender also let us know f transition so no picky snacks available. A bit too much info provided.
Review 2:Desk person very welcoming. Dinner staff very polite Lovely old ambiance.
Review 3:The windows were so poorly insulated that the sounds from the heating unit outside kept us waking frequently during the night. It was a poor nights sleep. During our last stay the room we occupied in front on the street side was much quieter.
Review 4:The property is lovely. We returned from dinner to have a drink at the bar, but it closed at 10, just as we arrived. It's a nice bar and dining room.
Review 5:All good. Maybe put up a placard that gives the history of the building. Maybe advertise that you offer a college student's parent rate.
Review 6:Great place to stay. Excellent location. Nice team.
Review 7:We found this hotel sub par. Tried to be updated historic, but didn't really hit that mark. Restaurant was extremely slow even with no large crowds on a Saturday morning, even after letting our server know we were pressed for time (took half an hour just to get our oj), and we felt it was significantly overpriced and a bit "stuffy" overall. Would not rush back.
Review 8:Everything in the hotel was very clean and nice, the room was cozy and comfortable. One room door will then bring you to a small foyer that connects two rooms accessible only by your room key which is great if you are traveling with a group. Will be back.
Review 9:Didn't receive excellent for cleanliness because the shade in our bathroom was covered in stains. Seems like an easy fix...
Review 10:Staff was VERY accommodating and overall ambiance of hotel very nice:) We enjoyed hearing the church bells and glad to find out they don't begin again in morning till 8am!!
Review 11:We srrived late, due to traffic so we missed out on your nightlife and a chance to explore.
Review 12:The hotel was really easy to book, to find and the staff was super friendly. Down town area is looking great.
Review 13:Parking fee for a night is $28. It is expensive.
Review 14:What a great hotel!! I do strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in Providence. Parking was valet, and when a staff pulled my car in front of hotel, I noticed my GPS device was not in the car. At first, I thought a staff stole it, but in fact, he hided it not to be stolen. I have never experienced this kindness here in US. I would like to apologize again that I doubt him. Breakfast was not included, but it was so tasty. Hotel location was also great. Facility, amenity, equipment, and cleanliness have nothing to be improved. I will stay here again when I visit not only providence, but Rode Island. Thank you again for pleasant stay.
Review 15:not sure what was going on outside but there was lots of yelling late at night and cars driving down the street with blaring music. I stayed in NYC and it wasn't this loud.
Review 16:The location was nice -since it was close to restaurants but...
Review 17:Only minor problem was when we requested our car from the valet it took more than a half hr to retrieve and the. We walked to the front and it was parked outside the valet/front desk fade to tell us it was here
Review 18:Breakfast wasn't offered as part of the stay as is common with many hotels which would have been fine if the coffee offered would have remained a little later. A cup of coffee is nice to have for guests. It was removed from lobby by 10:30 when we went to get some
Review 19:The gay pride festival was going on and the music made the room shake till 2. Staff tried to move is but still loud. We have up on sleep and had dance party in room.
Review 20:The location was amazing and the room was great. The front desk was very friendly.
Review 21:No parking but very efficient valet service.
Review 22:Furnishings in lobby and rooms. Clean nicely updated. Great staff who were courteous helpful friendly. Good value. Good food.
Review 23:Ni refrigerator in rooms. Would have been nice to have buffet breakfast available even if we have to pay. Late room cleaning.
Review 24:Location. Free warm cider with cookies in the afternoon was nice. Room is spacious and beautiful.
Review 25:5th Floor had an incessant ringing - called the Front Desk and they said it was due to the Kitchen's ventilation system and would stop when they closed but it didn't, it went on all night; an irritating distraction all night, had to turn the TV up to get our minds off it. I mentioned to Front Desk again at check out - and he seemed surprised by it, but the guy the night before knew exactly what I was complaining about, second employee's reaction seemed contrived. Zero empathy or follow up, a big blemish on an otherwise nice hotel. Extremely limited number of TV channels
Review 26:Easy access to Brown University. Valet helpful. Comfortable beds and pillows
Review 27:I did not like that I needed to call room service 4 times to be provided with a menu for breakfast and staff came up twice with the wrong menu (never got the right menu)and my husband had to go out to pick our breakfast from Dunkin Donuts
Review 28:I like that the cleaning staff was so friendly and we were provided with enough towels for our party...
Review 29:We didn't realize that you offered room service for breakfast, which we would have definitely ordered had we known. the menu wasn't in the same location as the dinner menu and we did find it until it was too late.
Review 30:Everything. We had a corner room, which was great. The towels were nice and thick and you provided a full size blow dryer. The food was excellent!
Review 31:I can't recommend the restaurant .
Review 32:This is a beautiful classic hotel. The staff was always friendly and helpful , our room was large and comfortable , the location diwntown is excellent .
Review 33:That I had the problems in the first place. 1) no heat in room (Jan cold spell!), 2) only 1 bathrobe (did not want to get charged for 2), 3) lamp fixture broken so could not switch on light. However, they reacted quickly and we enjoyed the hotel.
Review 34:Great restaurant - Aspire. Friendly staff. and the bed was so comfortable.
Review 35:The church bells next door go off every hour and on the half..until midnight. The hotel itself is not very sound proof as we could hear people screaming from the street at all hours throughout the night and the screaming infant next door didn't help...
Review 36:The staff/valet were very efficient. Hotel had a great feel to it and was clean.
Review 37:The windows in my hotel room did not open and the view wasn't great but if you're not looking for a view then this is a great hotel.
Review 38:The beds were extremely comfortable, decent sized room. Very close to places to eat, places to party and places to shop. Extremely friendly staff.
Review 39:The church bells at 8:00 or earlier. Woke my teenage daughter up earlier than she hoped to sleep on a vacation from college morning. If they went off an hour later it would have been fine though.
Review 40:We were above the restaurant and there were noisy fans all the time.
Review 41:The location was excellent, we were working at the Convention Center and it was very easy to walk there. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 42:We checked in at about 5.20 pm, there were neither doormen nor a parking staff, we wheeled in our luggages. The receptions were friendly but they sent us to the room which was used, the beds were obviously not made yet! pillows on the floor even. I've traveled extensively for decades, and this was the first time I encountered such a terrible mistake by a 4 star hotel. Had we asked to check in early around 1pm, I probably would try to understand, but it was late in the afternoon!I called reception from the room and let them know the problem, instead of hurrying to come up and sort things out, they tell us to go down again. We wheeled our luggages down and they apologized, saying power was down a few hours earlier and there was a mistake with housekeeping. They said they will give us a new room BUT the room is not available still at this time (we booked a junior suite with 2 queens for our family of 3.) As we were in a hurry to leave for an appointment @5.45, we had no choice but left the luggage with them. The reception gave us a$20 card to be used for breakfast as some sort of compensation for our inconveniences. We came back @about 8 pm and found they put us on the room on 2nd floor, one floor below the previous room we went. The trouble is these rooms are in the wing by the back of the hotel, the corridor leading to the elevator were already smell with food for it led to the main kitchen (say the kitchen entrance was about 5-6 meters away from the elevator.) It was ok, though strange, to smell food along the corridor. But worse yet, the 2nd floor room they put us in this time also smelled, food smell! It was unbelievable, but we were too tired to change again so my husband put the towels on the floor to block more foul smell from coming in. I close the door between the living room to the bedroom. The room itself has quite a good layout and looked clean, only the food smell from the kitchen is intolerable.
Review 43:The location is ok, and the size is not too big. Breakfast was good. Not a long wait time for the parking staff to get the car.
Review 44:No view at all from bedroom window but not necessary in my opinion.
Review 45:Bedrooms were a very good size and the bathroom was well appointed with good quality fittings. Lots of beautiful antiques in the lobby and original features kept. Location was great too.
Review 46:Unfortunately, Providence apparently is suffering from infrastructure issues, and so the neighborhood is a bit shabby (although one block over is lovely), the streets are crumbling, and in addition, there is a large homeless population who hang around the church soup-kitchen that across the street from the front door (this makes it feel very uncomfortable for evening walks, etc.). We noted that it got extremely loud as people gathered for food in the morning, and the doorman was frequently wandering across the street to ask people to quiet down.
Review 47:We were very impressed with the overall hotel - the check-in experience was great, the room was lovely and the bed was exquisite! We enjoyed room service, and all of the hotel staff were accommodating and helpful (including the great guys at the door).
Review 48:Valet parking was a little confusing so we parked in a lot that was pretty much across the street.
Review 49:Loved the location and the fact that they brought my 4 yr old daughter her own set of slippers and robe. The restaurant was excellent but a little pricey.
Review 50:There is no pool but that ended up being fine.
Review 51:We came for one night and loved the hotel so much we stayed three more nights using providence as our home base to make day trips to plymouth, Newport, New Bedford. The staff even surprised our daughters with children sized robes and slippers. And had a wagon of toys to pick from. Really wonderful. I also enjoyed the gym. All in all a wonderful find.
Review 52:Maid service didn't make up our room despite us being out of the room between 10 - 4. No ice available for 2 days. Unhelpful staff on reception
Review 53:Central location was a plus but this was outweighed by some problems
Review 54:Room was very noisy. Air conditioning eqipment in the room and above the roof downstairs are making too much noise. Cleaning staff did not refill the amenities did not get any cotton swabs in seven days after the first day.
Review 55:Location , front desk staff were very friendly
Review 56:There was initially bit a noise from air-conditioning, but that disappeared later. Staff was that great to offer other room if we want to at 2am in the morning. Well done. p.s. We stayed :-).
Review 57:Stayed only one night, but enjoyed the stay. Location is good for the fact, this is Providence and might not be that much excitement around anyway. We have received very nice 726 suite named after Edgar Allen Poe! Good idea, nice suite. Like the style, staff very helpfull.
Review 58:Staff was friendly and helpful, standard rooms were spacious, but as bonus one of our rooms was upgraded at no extra charge to a suite. We were made to feel very welcome.
Review 59:No breakfast included in the room rate.
Review 60:Lovely hotel - large room, nicely decorated. Really nice bathroom. Walking distance to central locations. Very friendly front desk staff. Ice-tea and cookies available at reception.
Review 61:We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of July, have no complains at all, the staff was very helpful and courteous. The room was large, comfortable and well equipped. Loved the bath robe.
Review 62:A more comfortable sofa bed. Would be great if there was a pool in the hotel.
Review 63:We were in Providence to visit colleges. The location of the hotel is good. We were able to walk to the colleges we were looking at. The lobby is beautiful. We had a junior suite. Our bed was comfortable but the sofa bed could be better. Overall a nice place to stay.
Review 64:The hotel is beautiful and the staff is friendly and very accommodating. We were delighted to discover that Hotel Providence is pet friendly. On our next visit, we will bring along our mini dachshund.
Review 65:Loved the junior suite. It was perfect for our family--one son, one daughter and one parent. I love the aged of the hotel and historic decor. However the sofa were more like 190 thanx 1890. They should be replaced.
Review 66:The street noise was a tiny bit loud in the wee early morning with beeping back up noise. (Trash day)
Review 67:Hotel Providence exceeded our expectations in every way! The valet staff was courteous and easy and check in was a breeze. The gentleman at the desk was personable and helpful. Our room, the Theodore Geisel Suite, was beautiful and charming. The bed was deliciously comfy and the room darkening drapes allowed us to sleep as long as we liked. Located in a perfect spot to explore the magnificent architecture and river walk in Providence.
Review 68:Although you offer a room service breakfast I would like to see a morning buffet. It is a fast, no thinking way to start the day.this is not a criticism, just a suggestion... Love the place!!
Review 69:Clean, friendly, great bar and restaraunt.
Review 70:Could not think of anything that displeases us.
Review 71:Location of the hotel, beautiful old building converted to a classy hotel, great Jazz music Friday night
Review 72:Thin walls, we could hear another quest snoring throughout the night. Valet was a bit pricey at $28 and the breakfast (even though we didn't choose to get any) was a bit pricey also. Alot of younger college kids walking around the streets intoxicated.
Review 73:The valet was great because there was no optional free parking. Hotel staff was very polite and helpful. The room was extremely cleam, and comfortable.
Review 74:Service was a little slow in the restaurant.
Review 75:Very unique hotel experience. Our first time to Providence and would stay there again if we ever came back. Wonderful time!
Review 76:What's not to like? It was all great.
Review 77:Friendly, helpful staff--immediate and helpful response to any needs or questions. Lovely, comfortable room; nice restaurant on premises with good food and service; and the doggie-friendly dog bed and treats in the lobby were a sweet touch.
Review 78:Our only complaint was that the chef uses way, way too much salt on the food. We are not people that need to watch our salt intake - we just really enjoy fine food and that was too much salt.
Review 79:Beautiful rooms, gorgeous bathrooms, lovely restaurant on the main level - We were totally comfortable!
Review 80:Some of the staff on the front desk were clueless about directions to local sights - they seemed to be new to the job.
Review 81:The old world ambience and decor, comfortable bedding and the nice size of the room. Of course, the location is excellent.
Review 82:The room was small, did not Olde a lot of extra's ( I.e. small fridge) etc. Parking was also expensive.
Review 83:The restaurant was excellent. Staff was attentive, food presentation was eye catching and the various dishes were cooked to perfection and so delish.
Review 84:The air conditioning was not good at all. The thick curtain blocked the vent and there was no way to adjust the temperature. It was very hot to sleep at night. I feel as though it was not worth the money. You are just paying for the location.
Review 85:The hotel was very nice. The bed was comfortable and the staff was very nice. Valet was no issue and they pulled the car right out for you.
Review 86:They let public in the hotel they paid a fee but it made the pool very busy and difficult to get a sunbed they also had private areas
Review 87:Swimming pool area very nice
Review 88:Parking fee was a little high Would rather have parking "free" (included in room cost)
Review 89:Pleasant & helpful staff Comfortable room Roomy, nice bathroom
Review 90:Comfy bed Excellent restaurant
Review 91:The clerks weren't too kind when checking in and out
Review 92:Loved the room and location and the restaurant staff were dolls :)
Review 93:Room was tiny.
Review 94:The staff and location.
Review 95:The bells from the surrounding churches. The early morning yellin coming from the street was unpleasant. Not the hotels fault.
Review 96:Everything was great! Awesome location at great price!
Review 97:Gracious, comfortable hotel with very spacious room. Well-located. Staff were welcoming and helpful.
Review 98:Screaming and fighting until 3:30 am and starting again at 7 am
Review 99:The aspire of the kitchen. Food was overpriced, average and service was very slow....
Review 100:I liked the ambience int he courtyard and the old town feeling.
Review 101:Nice room.good locatie
Review 102:Some of the rooms need repair/update Based on our room, 711, poor value for money.
Review 103:Location Stunning reception area Great food
Review 104:Very friendly front desk staff. Cookies in the lobby. Responsive valet service.
Review 105:Delicious cookies and cider at check-in.
Review 106:You should provide two bottles of free water everyday.
Review 107:Very friendly.
Review 108:Walls are thin between rooms - can hear neighbors snoring/arguing
Review 109:Lovely building in an interesting part of town. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 110:Staffs are unfriendly, have no smile.
Review 111:Bed is comfortable. Hotel lobby is beautiful.
Review 112:Lovely staff in front desk when we arrived in the evening. We had a great dinner outside in the restaurant where the girls serving were very nice.

Review 114:Beautiful accommodations and wonderful location
Review 115:Room view was a wall...
Review 116:Beautiful hotel with great staff. Comfortable and quiet.
Review 117:Next to bars/club scene which is great because they're all within walking distance. But the noise doesn't stop until the crack of dawn.
Review 118:nothing
Review 119:everything, beautiful luxurious, booking.yeah!!!
Review 120:The sink was clogged and the front desk check in experience left a lot to be desired
