Reviews for Shilo Inn Portland Rose Garden

Review 1:Our room had a big stain in the carpet. Also the breakfast was not up to par compared to similar hotels we have stayed in.

Review 2:Location because we had an event at the Moda Center and could walk.

Review 3:Staff was not consistent. Stopped by early and we knew we were early. Just wanted to request two rooms together. We were told they will noted on our request and then we were informed that check in is not until 4 PM. Went back at 4 PM, the parking lot was full and they said they started checking people in at around 3 PM. Needless to say our earlier request was complete ignored and had to argue with the staff. Staff was completely uninformed about the area within a 5 block radius on best way to get to event.

Review 4:Close to the event we were going to.

Review 5:Shower had no pressure. Do not like those slippery ugly bedspreads . Didn't feel clean. Prefer cotton. Thought it was too expensive for that area and room

Review 6:It was clean and staff was nice and courteous

Review 7:Bed very hard and pillows harder, need to offer variety in pillows. Some remodeling, but really needed to have tub replaced to finish it off nicely.

Review 8:Good location. Very close to public transit stops, a few restaurants near by

Review 9:The breakfast in the am was just packaged items. They told us they couldn't have milk. There was no cutlery one morning (they said they were out of spoons). There was one toaster for everyone in the hotel and the hot water for tea or oatmeal was brown both days. The staff was pretty so-so. I'd say in my adult years it was the worst hotel I've stayed at, especially since it wasn't exactly cheap.

Review 10:The bed was comfy and the room itself wasn't too bad.

Review 11:The facility is in dire need of a facelift. The carpets are dirty and stained in halls and in room, in fact the room had huge burn marks by the window. The furniture was very old and worn, chairs with seems coming apart. The desk is about to fall over and the TV is old and not clear picture (static on all channels) But it did the job. However, the price i paid was over $100 a night.. It should not have been more than $85 for the shape the hotel is in. The bathroom was so tiny you have to straddle the toilet to get in and out so that was a huge frustration. And front office told me vending machine often takes your money so sent me to 7-11

Review 12:The bed was clean and comfortable and the towels were clean. The shower was very hot and the flow was good. The air worked fine though the warm air smelled, perhaps I am first to use the heat this season as that is how it smelled. They do have a continential breakfast of toast items and a few prepackaged to-go items and coffee and juice. It was ok as I was on the go so that worked nice.

Review 13:You can often hear other people closing doors, running or walking upstairs, people yelling or talking through the walls.

Review 14:The location was decent and a quick uber ride away to downtown or anywhere else we wanted to go. The rooms were clean and the beds were fairly comfortable. The staff at the hotel was nice and gave good suggestions on where to go/eat.

Review 15:Our room had an odor of sweat. It wasn't anything we could specifically locate, so I assume it was in the carpet. Nothing a little Febreeze couldn't solve.

Review 16:Awesome staff! Super friendly, and very interested in making sure we had all of the information we needed for our stay in Portland.

Review 17:Sink didn't drain, bathroom was super small, you had to straddle the toilet to close the door. Tub was filthy. Staff was less than cordial, when asked to fix the sink.

Review 18:Easy access from interstate. Close to a wide range of eating establishments. Walking distance to catch train to centre of city. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 19:Pretty disappointed in this hotel..booked this hotel on here for $150.75 including all taxes and fee's..when I arrived to the hotel the lady was so sweet and kind and gave me my reciet for the room for the night and it showed the room was 135.00 and then came to a total of $150.00 after taxes everything was fine..got a notice from my bank that the hotel tried to run my card for $150 then again for $200..so when checking out I asked the lady how come my card was being charged an extra $50 instead of the $150 that I signed for..she stated that their was a " $50 room deposit "..I explained to her that was never disclosed to me at any point of booking the hotel or apon arrival so why didn't the fist lady explain to me while I was checking in that there was going to be an extra charge on my card...the 2nd lady as I was checking out was very unprofessional with helping me and saying she didn't know why I was disclosed the room deposit and simply couldn't help me...so I left the hotel and was going to call the manager when I got home..this morning I received another $200 charge on my card from the same hotel. Currently filing fruad against them for running my card three different times!!!

Review 20:I was traveling with my infant son. I arrived about an hour early. A man who was working the counter first ignored me and then very rudely told me to go away until 4 (check-in time) before I even said anything at all. I came back a few minutes before 4 and a woman was working the counter with a long line of people. By the time I got to the front she couldn't find my reservation. They had either lost it or given our room to someone else already. I even showed her my confirmation email. She spent 20 minutes looking for any room to put us in. At least she was very friendly and apologetic. Her attitude was the only thing keeping me from getting really upset about the whole situation. The hotel appeared well maintained and the room was clean.

Review 21:It's about what I expected for the price, except the staff at the counter could use some training.

Review 22:WIFI IS REALLY SLOW; pretty old place; breakfast is not good (but it is a bonus)

Review 23:Location is near interstate 5 exit; all staff are really nice and helpful; free breakfast provided

Review 24:Great Location; very close to city center without having to pay city fees. Free parking, free WIFI, clean rooms, friendly staff, and complimentary breakfast (although it's just muffins, bagels, oatmeal, juice, coffee and other snack items).

Review 25:Key cards don't always unlock door. Kept key card separate from cell phone. I think lock mechanisms are either worn out or outdated or both. Cards look overused. Talked to other tenants residing at Shilo and they expressed frustration over this same issue.

Review 26:Place was clean

Review 27:NO breakfast, rude breakfast "help",. Motel nowhere near the Portland Rose Garden despite name. Desk staff unable to reccomend dinner restaurant that we found 1 1/2 blocks away.

Review 28:parking

Review 29:The bed was pretty uncomfortable and really needed replacement. Thefloor was hard and quite uneven. Breakfast was poor. Apples - just a few- were available on the first of five mornings. None were seen again! Nooptions for vegans or gluten-free clients were available. Moreover, local restaurant statues in oregon prevented the staff from servingbutter - to the disadvantage of some guests.

Review 30:The staff, particularly the desk workers, were very friendly andhelpful. Jason and Ursula in particular were extremely accommodating.

Review 31:Due to the amount of construction it was hard to find my accommodation. But stuck with it and eventually did. Lots of new one-ways and detours threw my GPS out of whack!

Review 32:I really enjoyed my stay at the Shilo Inn Portland Rose Garden. Very comfortable, affordable, and central. Staff very helpful and polite; they even helped me order in very yummy take out (Thai)!

Review 33:Noon check out time could only be extended until 12:30. I had a later flight and could have used another hour or two to check out later. However they explained they were fully booked for that night and needed time to clean the room.

Review 34:Helpfulness of the staff. Free continental breakfast.

Review 35:Older, no restaurant, morning breakfast was all carbs, ( muffins, bagels , bread, cereal ...)

Review 36:Helpful staff, parking was good, room comfortable. Economy room

Review 37:The location was a bit sketchy and dinner locations were difficult to find if you've never been to Portland before.

Review 38:The hotel had everything we needed. It was clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.

Review 39:The staff was very not perfessional. Since locating near the convention center I was surprised at the lack of training. On check out I was told I had already checked out with a group of rooms earlier. Not the case, so I could only have copies of my bills since the billing was closed. Did that person get my personal info?

Review 40:The vending machines do not have a great selection. The breakfast is quite poor. I had constant problems with the door card reader -- I had to press the magnetic band against the reader, bending it slightly, for it to work. Wifi super slow.

Review 41:It is close to the Covention Center.

Review 42:Wifi is unusably slow, and the breakfast isn't up to any European standards: Sugar shock american style, I guess.

Review 43:Overall ok. Clean, comfortable, etc.

Review 44:key system deplorable. others complaining also. often key did not work

Review 45:good location, accessible and friendly staff, comfortable and clean room, ample parking

Review 46:no lobby or bar area for evening if you cannot sleep, which I would want when staying more than one night.

Review 47:location makes access to different parts of city convenient; clean; free parking.

Review 48:None really. We stayed 3 days and 2 nights and didn't have any issues.

Review 49:Reading the reviews we were kind of nervous but when we got there we were instantly relieved to find the place and our room were very clean and we'll kept. The staff were amazing and took their time to help us - answering inquirers, etc. Love that the place is very pet friendly too!

Review 50:The place needed some major updating and airing out. The carpet and décor was so old. No elevator and I had to lug my own bags upstairs. They also charged me a deposit though this site said they wouldn't.

Review 51:The location was convenient. The staff was friendly for the most part.

Review 52:I have never seen such a slow check-in process. I do not believe it was the fault of the employees. I can only assume the computer and office systems were slow and that was aggravated by the problem was that there was just one employee and one computer.

Review 53:Location, comfort of room, car park.

Review 54:Card key didn't work most of the time, breakfast was pathetic-coffee empty most of the time I was there, waited for 15 minutes to check in with no line because computer didn't stay on line

Review 55:Bed seemed old, but wasn't too bad

Review 56:Hotel has distinct moldy and old odor. Rooms tiny, poorly maintained. Linens worn. No chair to sit in. Breakfast? That's a joke. Day old pastries and microwave oatmeal

Review 57:Bathroom was clean

Review 58:Older tv, limited channels. Room seemed a little worn.

Review 59:Front desk was friendly, helpful an very thoughtful. Room was very clean and quiet. Location was easy to find and parking was plentiful.

Review 60:Key NEVER worked, Hair dryer didn't work so they installed new while we were out we had plaster chucks and dust everywhere because they didn't clean up after. No elevator to get bags up an down, Breakfast room closed instead of open 6am-10am daily as we had been told.

Review 61:Good location for ice skating competition at Lloyd Center

Review 62:No pool on site

Review 63:Close to Rose Garden and $5 cab ride from Wonder Ballroom. Walking distance from DD&D establishment with amazing Chinese and noodles. Overall a great stay.

Review 64:No diary for breakfast, no butter, they don't have their food handling license. Maybe they should get it! Breakfast only open till 9. Some of the staff had a bad attitude, didn't care.

Review 65:Location was convenient for us, easy access to downtown. Decent value for money.

Review 66:The person checking us in had friends sitting in the lobby, waiting for us to leave so they could get their beer! Bathroom was way too small for a king room. Very poor layout, as you had to squeeze past the open door, stand by the toilet to close the door. Also walls were very thin, we heard the people on both sides of us and people in the hallway until 2 am.

Review 67:The bed was comfortable, coffee was good.

Review 68:When checking in late at night (and very tired), service was a little slow and inattentive. But fine at all other times.

Review 69:the room was great for our group of 4, out all day at the Convention Center

Review 70:Our room was on the street side of the hotel, so there was consistent noise all day and night with traffic. Just two blocks up is a fire department and a very busy one too. the sound of distant train noise. Made for a very long evening. I suggest (ear plugs)

Review 71:The location was fairly good, just a block over from Broadway street in a local neighborhood area. I like being around where the locals live, what they do, where they go, and there local hang outs. Would definitely check the area out on my next trip.

Review 72:The bed were super squeaky. And you could hear everyone around you walking and showing.

Review 73:I liked that is was pretty friendly and in downtown Portland. Very close to the restaurant we wanted.

Review 74:Loud air conditioner, breakfast is not worth it. Processed/packaged foods.

Review 75:Close to MAX transportation, easy access to downtown, nice staff, clean.

Review 76:The nightman who wanted to charge for my service animal. Then the night clerk who had a screaming fight with the owner and then spent another hour telling all her friends about it. Loud enough we could hear her in or room.

Review 77:The nearby Starbucks

Review 78:The room was fine, not fancy but very comfortable. It had a nice desk which was great as a make up table. The coffee was good and the Apple Danish heated in the microwave in our room was delicious.

Review 79:It was a nice place to stay for our first time in Portland. The staff were so helpful in suggesting where to go and bus routes to catch! It was clean and had your every day necessities!

Review 80:The AC is totally worn out and it ruins your hotel. It smells horrible, fans and filters are dirty. everything apart this is just fine.

Review 81:everything was alright, it could have been just right.

Review 82:taking 30 mins. to check in, only 1 person serving check-in counter, room keys not working due to low batteries in door locks, dirty and stained carpets, noisy

Review 83:beds were comfortable,

Review 84:Check-in process was slow. Staff not very friendly or accommodating. Room very small and cramped, showing wear and tear. Breakfast offerings poor.

Review 85:Not much to like

Review 86:breakfast was not good for me, except the coffee and orange juice. Breakfast items were basically packaged pastries. No yogurt, oatmeal but no milk, toast / pre packaged bagels - no butter. Apparently Oregon has some law / rule that restricts the hotel from offering any dairy products ?? weird

Review 87:Very clean, staff very friendly and accommodating. Good laundry area and nice sauna downstairs. Staff was very helpful - supplied extra towels, shampoo etc without question. Location was excellent. We were there for a wedding and to get together with family. Everyone staying somewhere different, but our location was good for all we did. 7 - 11 next door and Starbucks within walking distance was convenient. Wifi was free and very good. Price was nice.

Review 88:Television poor Shower handle broken (Pulls off) Shower curtain too short, too narrow. (Water on floor.) This hotel seems outdated, too much $$ for what is offered.

Review 89:Location Staff

Review 90:Arrived at the facility and even with confirmation number discovered no room available. Was redirected to other facility back at airport which worked out sufficiently.

Review 91:The desk chair was nice, but I missed not having a comfortable reading chair. The TV was adequate, but an LCD would have been much nicer.

Review 92:Nice comfortable bed. Great A/C. A shower head set high enough for a 6' 4" man to shampoo his hair without bending down. Wi-Fi is available, but I didn't try it.

Review 93:nothing, it was just great!

Review 94:very helpful staff, clean, good location, city is wonderfully quirky, has great pubs, restaurants, food, people, and is great for solo traveling

Review 95:Poor breakfast, older rooms, key card issues, slow WiFi

Review 96:Walking distance to MODA Center

Review 97:If what you need is an affordable place to just crash, this fits the bill. Old but clean.

Review 98:Beds were hard

Review 99:Close to Moda Center

Review 105:Friendly helpful efficient staff. , spotlessly clean , very comfortable perfect

Review 106:The breakfast was terrible

Review 107:Location

Review 108:- great value and very clean - free parking - location was great for the price

Review 109:Convenient for travelling around.

Review 110:Outside hotel / area isn't that great and common areas could use a lot of cleanup/modernization

Review 111:Inside room was clean

Review 112:TV needs upgrading to flat screen and cable channels were limited. Not in a great area of the city.

Review 113:Cleanliness

Review 114:Breakfast

Review 115:Location, sauna

Review 116:Rather obsolete equipment (TV set), very average breakfast.

Review 117:Standard and clean room, helpfull staff.

Review 118:Room was not ready on time and the facility was obviously understaffed

Review 119:The card entry system to our room had a fault that could not be fully solved.

Review 120:Friendly helpful staff and proximity to Streetcar and MAX transport

Review 121:Old tv

Review 122:Sink and toilet separate

Review 123:The reception staff girls were very friendly and helpful.

Review 124:Wi-fi was a bit temperamental.

Review 125:Free (American) continental breakfast, which I wasn't expecting from the booking.

Review 126:Bathroom too small.
