Reviews for The Williams Inn

Review 1:The heater in the room was noisy and the beds too bouncy as if they were loose. Rugs were dirty and I had a flea on my arm.

Review 2:Good breakfast friendly staff

Review 3:Breakfast was not good: bad coffee, stale English muffin, cut-up fruit was 90% honeydew melon.

Review 4:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, proximity to Williams College

Review 5:very handy for the area we wanted to visit. A tasty breakfast, restaurant staff, menu and food all very good and well presented. Front of house staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 6:A separate bar area for a pre dinner drink would have been good - although you could always use the lounge I guess.

Review 7:Friendly and welcoming. Room comfortable, clean and well equipped. Great service in the restaurant with a plentiful and varied menu offering a good range of delicious food and drinks.

Review 8:A little bit on the tired side. Pretty dated.

Review 9:Well located in Williamstown to walk around the college town or drive to plenty of nearby towns & countryside.

Review 10:Staff is slow. Front desk is not 24 hours. There were people talking and laughing in the corridor at 2 am, and I can hear every word in room!

Review 11:Great location, just next to the Clark institute and Williams college.

Review 12:The meals were a disappointment. Dinner was only in their tavern with a limited menu. The chicken and rice dish came to the table cold. A second plate of the same entre was also cold. The entire room was disorganized and understaffed. Breakfast was no more, actually less, than any motel chain would have offered.

Review 13:The hotel is in desperate need of new carpeting that doesn't smell like air freshener disguising mold. The beds are completely uncomfortable and clearly old. The breakfast was pedestrian.

Review 14:The location is great.

Review 15:Staff was very accommodating. The location was perfect for what we were doing. Having a restaurant on premises was helpful and the breakfast was fabulous.

Review 16:They did not let us cancel our reservation and charged us for a full night's stay. We booked as part of a wedding among many other guests.

Review 17:Nothing. We didn't stay there.

Review 18:No easy chair for reading (or desk for that matter) -- just a desk chair set in the corner of the room.

Review 19:Ideal location; could walk to everything I needed in Williamstown. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. I enjoyed the breakfast choices.

Review 20:The elevator is old and the room is pretty small.

Review 21:The location of the hotel is on the campus of the Williams college, very convenient for college visit. The atmosphere of the hotel is warm and welcoming. The view of the surroundings is beautiful and peaceful.

Review 22:The rooms were a bit thread worn, and the bed cover was thin, which meant one of us who likes a chilled room was more comfortable than the one who needed a warmer covering. The price of $190.00 was expensive for the three star quality.

Review 23:The location is ideal for a visit to the Clark Museum. Free WiFi and breakfast included in the price was great.

Review 24:The room was in dire need of updating....the curtain was sagging.......the wall paper was torn in several places....there were huge stains on the carpet....the bottom sheets were not fitted.... The TV was not s flat screen

Review 25:We liked the location near the Clark Art Museum

Review 26:Quaint--in this case, denotes very outdated, though not shabby, per se. We missed breakfast by 10 min. and arrived 15 min. prior to bar opening and staff made both circumstances very clear to us.

Review 27:Great location. Clean and comfortable.

Review 28:Sheets did not fit beds. They used a flat sheet that barely covered one bed and didn't quite cover top of second bed. It came loose any time you moved.

Review 29:Great location - in center of Williamstown, around the corner from the Clark. Breakfast was very nice. Plus they had cheese crackers, and home-made lemonade in the lobby. Comfortable lobby with fireplace.

Review 30:No fitness center, room far from elevator, arrival not very friendly, no personal assistance help with luggage except a cart for guest's use. No towel racks in sink area, had to hang in shower room.

Review 31:Breakfast was included very well presented, and sitting on outdoor deck was pleasant. Towels were very thick and soft! Overall it is better than a few years ago before new management.

Review 32:Old carpet, musty smell and the fact nobody told us that the first floor is for pets!!

Review 33:Location is excellent to the Clark, Wiliams College and the Williams Town Festival Theatre.

Review 34:Parts of the hotel appeared to be old in a tired sort of way.

Review 35:The location is excellent for cultural activities near Williamstown such as the Clark Museum and the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Review 36:The hotel is tired and in need of an update. The bedroom was comfortable but looked as if it was last decorated in about 1975. The timed light switch in the bathroom means you are likely to be plunged into darkness mid- shower.

Review 37:Very nice staff and perfect location for walking to theatre, village and CLark.

Review 38:The breakfast was wonderful...much more extensive than expected for "continental". We also appreciated advice for dinner, that were "spot on". We'd go back again.

Review 39:We come to Williamstown relatively often. You cannot beat the location. Hotel looks like it could use some modernizing, but the staff is very helpful, location is prime, and it's quit comfortable.

Review 40:Bed linens were rumpled - not sure they had been changed as there was a small stain on the bottom sheet; mold around shower guard in the bathtub; inconsistent WiFi ( would cut out every minute or 2 so was constantly signing back on to refinish a single email).

Review 41:Location, dining room, breakfast offerings, dinner staff were all excellent

Review 42:Would have liked more choices for a gluten free breakfast. Warm eggs rather than cold. farm tomatoes since they are in season rather than the cardboard variety.

Review 43:The bedroom and bath were large and relaxing

Review 44:upholstered chairs in room ripped, inadequate electrical outlets

Review 45:could walk to restaurants in town, close to Clark Museum, clean, pleasant staff, very good continental breakfast

Review 46:Difficulty adjusting temperature in room. Sound did not work on some of the TV channels.

Review 47:Staff very accommodating. Lovely setting. Variety of food offerings for breakfast.

Review 48:Needs updating. Leaky plumbing, mildew in bathroom, soft mattresses, flat pillows. Expensive.

Review 49:Convenient location to Clark Art Institute. Nice European breakfast.

Review 50:Room was threadbare. AC was broken. Light in bathroom was lousy. Mattress on bed was long since past prime.Shame on Williams College that owns it. Alums, prospective students, etc. stay here and this is a horrible brand experience.

Review 51:Location.

Review 52:The ambience was traditional New England and the location was amidst a college with terrific art and theater facilities nearby. The staff was very helpful, the breakfast was very generous and rooms and baths comfortable

Review 53:The Inn keeps getting grottier and shabbier and sadder each season. We will not stay there again despite its wonderful central location within walking distance to the College, the theater festival, The Clark and etc.

Review 54:Hotel needs updating... staff very pleasant but facilities needs a face lift.

Review 55:Location was perfect for visiting local art institutions and walking distance to downtown.

Review 56:A hotel in lovely location but in dire need of a major renovation. Bad smells in rooms and corridors, breakfast being cleared away at 9 . Way overpriced for the experience.

Review 57:Good location for the college.

Review 58:The corridors and ceiling tiles could use some upgrading.

Review 59:The location couldn't be better and staff was very helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable

Review 60:Musty odor upon entry. Decor dated. WI fi poor to non existent. Need more fresh fruit salad. Breads need improvement.Costco quality small amounts of butter and jam.

Review 61:Staff was lovely. 2 chairs good bed.Pool

Review 62:Dusty bedroom. Had to call for maintenance to fix TV on arrival. (Roger, maintenance chief, was responsive, very attentive to concerns, and fixed things promptly. Toilet had problems (I didn't mention this during the stay) - it kept running, and I had to keep flushing to fix. Coffee at breakfast wasn't hot on both days. Otherwise, continental breakfast was good.

Review 63:I've stayed at the Inn multiple times in the past and enjoyed every visit. This time, however, I had some concerns. Staff was responsive and showed concern. I will stay again.

Review 64:Would like to see more renovations (of the same style) to make the existing wallpaper and decor newer, fresher and cleaner.

Review 65:Love that the property had the feel of a cozy older hotel and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 66:Convenient, clean, lots of solid basics. Room was comfortable, great shower, breakfast was really nice for a continental one. Staff were exceptionally friendly, polite and understanding of some personal circumstances.

Review 67:I was surprised that there was no fridge or microwave in the room. I was also surprised that there was not a hot breakfast. It was what I would call continental. Pastries, cold cereal etc.

Review 68:The location was what I needed. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 69:90 % of staff great , just a few with no idea of customer service , a pity for the great 90% The mess that comes with college - students group stay .

Review 70:Location , Old New England Charm . Nicely refreshed , paint ....lot of great potential . College student athmosphere

Review 71:The bathroom in my 2-queen bed room was small & very dated. Also, our room had a smell similar to perfume or scented hand lotion which was mildly unpleasant but not worth it for us to request another room. It might bother guests with allergies, but I don't know if it may have been specific to that room or not (possibly lingering from a previous guest).

Review 72:Room was pleasant and comfortable. Beautiful cozy lounge/lobby & free breakfast buffet was fresh & delicious in an attractive & comfortable setting. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 73:Well, some people might say it needs updating, but I felt that was part of the charm of the inn.

Review 74:The staff was so super friendly, and we loved that they had a fire going in all the main rooms I the lobby and dining areas, and with the kids the pool was perfect.

Review 75:it was fine.

Review 76:The Inn is charming and was warm and cozy. The Tavern had a fireplace as did the lobby. Nice holiday decorations and spirit in the lobby. The dinner menu was limited but the food was good.

Review 77:Furnishings and bathrooms are very dated, feels a bit old and dingy. Too expensive for what you get. The tiny little light switch in the bathroom is hard to use.

Review 78:Great location for visiting Williams College. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

Review 79:Restaurant could have had a wider menu selection. Only American coffee offered which came barely warm.

Review 80:Relaxed atmosphere, comfortable good sized room. Good location for touring the area and Mt Greylock.

Review 81:the swimming pool area needs some thought. changing rooms are too small, very unprivate and awkward especially with the otherwise sensible insistence on showering pre swim . my wife found herself attempting to change with other peoples young children to mutual embarrassment. I suspect that everyone else returns dripping to their room . is that usa etiquette?

Review 82:very good reception staff.nice room . nice hot buffet breakfast in a dining room at a reasonable cost albeit with a pleasantly forgetful waitress.more like a proper hotel than an inn.

Review 83:The Williams Inn has not been a great experience in recent years but has improved immensely since the last time I stayed there. I had more or less given up on it but will now definitely return. So glad that it is being upgraded because the location is perfect for visiting Williams College.

Review 84:The rooms are in need of an update, all a bit tired. Breakfast was average and there was no yoghurt to go with the fresh fruit. Pool area also in need of a revamp. I felt it was overpriced for the standard of accommodation.

Review 85:The rooms are a good size and it's a convenient location. Nice pool and hot tub.

Review 86:The room smelled musty and out-dated style. Hotel staff was good but restaurant was extremely slow and not very courteous. A manager was in there helping but really didn't seem to be doing much. Quality of food was OK but not great. I know you had a bus or two of travelers but need to staff accoringly.

Review 87:It was on our route and easy to walk downtown.

Review 88:Waitress and hotess were very nice but more wait help is needed. Policy should be no cell phone use in common areas.

Review 89:Location, near art museum, Clean.

Review 90:What we did not like was that at $170 per night, the beds were very worn out and could have used replacing five or six years ago. The springs were so shot that you couldn't move at all without really disturbing your bedmate. There was also no breakfast, not even coffee and cold cereal, or a simple muffin.

Review 91:The staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The Inn as itself was a beautiful old building with a stunning foyer that begged attention and picture-taking. What we did not like was that at $170 per night, the beds were very worn out and could have used replacing five or six years ago. The springs were so shot that you couldn't move at all without really disturbing your bedmate. There was also no breakfast, not even coffee and cold cereal, or a simple muffin.

Review 92:Toilet was way too low, as well as TV. Hard to watch in bed. Dining room was closed as there was a private group on one side, even though there were plenty of tables available. We were told we had to eat in bar area, which was ok, but made our special night feel less special, or I guess you could say we were not valued as much as guests in the Inn. :( On another note, was surprised our credit card was actually billed out when reservation was made rather than held till actual date of reservation. never had that happen before.

Review 93:Dessert was excellent ! Towels were great! Fresh flower in bathroom was a nice touch

Review 94:tired. carpet was worn and stained, toilet ran all night, a/c was loud, room was stuffy, had that "funeral parlor" look.

Review 95:location on Williams campus is worth all the negatives if you are visiting the college. The buffet breakfast was nice.

Review 96:The system for billing for breakfast needs attention. Rooms should be 'freshed ' up daily even for a two night stay.

Review 97:The overall freshness of the breakfast offerings. High quality bath towels.

Review 98:Please invest in espresso coffee machine! Coffee not even hot and served with cold milk. Toast not done. For Europeans offer French breakfast. You might also rethink your dinner menu.

Review 99:Friendly reception who upgraded us to very nice room. Bar service was nice, good wine. Quiet nights!

Review 100:I have nothing negative to say.

Review 101:I've stayed at The Williams Inn several times over the past couple of years. The rooms are always very clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location, right on campus, is excellent. I used the pool for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It was bigger and deeper than I expected, and the room itself was light.

Review 102:Very noisy. Staff was cranky everytime I asked a question. Hotels facilities are old in a non charming way. And for the money it just felt unacceptable.

Review 103:Even though it is on the campus of Williams; it needs to be modernized in the bathrooms and carpeting and dining room.

Review 104:Location is super; walkable to many sites and museums.

Review 105:The restaurant is good but very empty, even for breakfast. The bar is really dated and the night we ate there a guitarist/singer was there. Nice voice but it puts a lot of pressure on the two or three couples who happen to be there to be appreciative. Rooms are also a little dated.

Review 106:It is extremely well located--the Clark, Williams College, the theater, restaurants are all within walking distance. The staff is exceptionally nice. It is well priced and wifi is free.

Review 107:Lighting in the bedroom was not good

Review 108:When we called the desk because the floor lamp didn't work they sent someone immediately. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 109:The rainy weather we experienced while there, although that is beyond the control of the hotelier. I suppose on any other visit I would have appreciated a small refrigerator in the room, since I travel with medicines that prefer to remain cold. But on this visit it happened I was traveling with a portable cooler, so my needs were met that way.

Review 110:All the services were carefully performed and very thorough. I am glad the decor of the place might seem dated to some Holiday Inn Express-vintage guests—they can stay somewhere else. This inn is centrally located, especially for the Theatre Festival, and is comfortable and refined. Good food and drink available at the site and good comfort for two people as far as bathroom facilities are concerned.

Review 111:no comfy chair in the room….would have liked two of them but one would have been great

Review 112:the staff provided a comfy chair for us as soon as we asked for one

Review 113:Mattress seemed very old. Had to walk a great distance to room. Food was not good and room service took a long time.

Review 114:Staff was nice and plenty of parking

Review 115:Very dated and a bit dirty. Bead spread stained. Food was ok but not great. Coffee cold and cream curdled. Seem overwhelmed by half full dining room. Could be a great place with a make over.

Review 116:Location to Williams College

Review 117:Wanted to love this place but instead of feeling historic and charming it felt old, dated, and tired, and the smell of disinfectant was everywhere.

Review 118:The location is fantastic.

Review 119:The dated decor and the quality of the beds. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. The decor left a lot to be desired and thank goodness my son brought a power surger because there were not enough plugs.

Review 120:The location was excellent. We were in town to drop my son at Williams College. The hotel is right on the campus.

Review 121:Although The Williams in could use some updating, our one night stay was comfortable and I will go back again. You were on campus and within walking distance of everything. The staff was wonderful.

Review 122:Faulty wi-fi Terrible TV; however, it was updated by the time we left Shabby furniture in lovely dining room: nicked chairs and some broken table pedestals

Review 123:Food

Review 124:Rooms need a major face lift. Mildew smell everywhere, bedding is uncomfortable and dated. Bathrooms need redoing.

Review 125:Location to Williams College campus and newly renovated and improved Clark Museum could not be better.

Review 126:The bathroom was really run down and not really clean when we checked in. I feel that the Williams Inn should invest in upgrading its bathrooms and then a guests would feel that they are actually getting to stay at a nice place. It is fine to be an "old Inn", but upgrading the bathrooms would make a world of difference and actually make the rates justified. Right now it is over-priced for what you get. The Williams Inn is taking advantage of the fact that it is the closest lodging to campus so it knows people will stay there even if it let's the place get run down.

Review 127:The location and proximity to Williams College campus.

Review 128:While the photos of the Inn make it look a bit like a traditional colonial house, it is actually a large modern hotel that happens to have white clapboard siding. Our room was nicely decorated with heritage-style wallpaper and traditional wooden headboards, but the inner blackout curtains were faded with age and missing quite a few hooks so they drooped and didn't close as well as we'd have liked. These are minor complaints, but I did feel slightly misled by the name and the photo attempting to show it as a traditional inn. In fact it is a decent, tasteful, comfortable, but slightly worn hotel.

Review 129:The Inn has good traditional room decor, comfortable beds, and a great location for visiting Williams College. The staff were very helpful. The woman at the front desk when we checked in asked about the purpose of our visit, gave us a map of the town and the college, showed us where key sites were, and gave us a parking voucher to stay the next day in the Inn parking lot as she correctly warned us that parking in town would be difficult. The next day on checkout she picked up, unprompted, a difference between my initial booking price and what the new higher rate would be, and adjusted my bill to my original rate so I didn't pay more. I would have missed the difference so was very grateful she went out of her way to save me $30!

Review 130:Very poor breakfast service.. Manager apologized for failing to heat the code urn and bring us look warm coffee. The coffe quality was poor as well. For the price upgrade! The pancakes were not cooked through, a little gummy.

Review 131:A loud, glaring receptionist lacking any sign of civility Cramped bathroom out of the 1950s No temperature control in room A feeling that we had entered a new time zone

Review 132:Near Williamstown theater

Review 133:Stairs only with no elevator to room. Very slow service at breakfast due to very large group ( 20 ) ahead of us.

Review 134:Waiter in tavern. Good food in both restaurants. Rest of staff friendly and helpful

Review 135:Rooms & hallways were musty. Dust piece hung from the ceiling in the bedroom and cracks in the ceiling material in the bathroom. Room needed some TLC.

Review 136:Was extremely close to Williamstown Theatre Festival, the reason for our trip

Review 137:Rooms a bit stark. Ours was an upgraded king room , yet it had absolutely no decoration on the walls. First hotel room I've been in that didn't have a single piece of hotel art on the walls. The restaurant is not good. The good is bland and uninspired and the servers need much more training.

Review 138:Great location. Pleasant lobby.
