Reviews for Orchards Hotel

Review 1:The front desk concierge was so gracious and helpful. The hotel was not especially busy this weekend (went up to visit our Williams student) and without us even asking, she upgraded us to a fabulous, spacious room with a fireplace. On top of that we got a 20% discount for dinner in their wonderful restaurant. The hotel lobby and hallways are very attractive and spotlessly clean. The room and the bath were ENORMOUS! Luxury soaps and bath products, two soft terry robes and slippers. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. And did I mention the fireplace:) And windows that actually open for some fresh air. (a particular pet peeve of mine). The concierge also explained the system they use for parents who want to book during graduation weekend. Basically, the more often you stay there over the years, the better your chance of getting a room for that coveted weekend. We'll be back!!

Review 2:Wish they had an indoor pool

Review 3:My son is a student at Williams, the location was great as were the amenities. The girl at the front desk was friendly and very helpful. The lounge is very well done, a great place to hang out.

Review 4:there was a terrible smell in the room. they acknowledged the smell, but since we had booked through a third party sight, they wouldn't do anything to move us or adjust our very expensive rate. We visit the area in the summer to drop my children at camp. We have stayed at Porches Inn in North Adams. It is less expensive and a much better experience.

Review 5:We asked for an extra bed in the room for our daughter and it was not there when we arrived. Phone did not work.. Pool was minuscule..

Review 6:Felt cozy and liked the ice cream sunday and tea served upon arrival. Cleaning staff was attentive and front desk was friendly, though not super-knowledeable. It seemed very busy, so maybe not the best day to judge by.

Review 7:Fire alarm was somewhat upsetting. Place seems dated. Bath towels were badly frayed so that the edges came away from the bodies of the towels. Towels were not very luxurious to start with.

Review 8:Couldn't believe we were charged for a newspaper! Surely if the hotel buys them anyway, they should be complementary for the guest.

Review 9:Loved the character of the hotel. Liked the gym and equipment. Liked the pool. Liked the availability of fruit, morning coffee and afternoon tea. Loved the hidden safe in the room. Parking good. Proximity to restaurants etc. Liked the bedtime biscuits. My son liked the chess game being out.

Review 10:Rooms need a complete update of furnishings , rugs, draperies. Pool incredibly small and surrounded by unattractive fencing, take some of expansive parking lot for landscaping pool area.

Review 11:Very large rooms, big windows, large bathrooms, lovely courtyard, very well presented and very tasty dinner outside on courtyard deck.

Review 12:Facility deserately needs an update. Very depressing. Curtains falling off rod. Lots of traffic noise. Sidewalks crumbling.

Review 13:Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was spacious. Separate double sink area was convenient when rooming with older children. Restaurant was very pleasant, though offerings could be expanded.

Review 14:When I went to the bar to have a beer while waiting for the take out food, it took the woman bartender a very long time to become helpful.

Review 15:The facility is amazing and very comfortable. I particularly enjoy the fireplace in the bedroom while the temperature was freezing outside

Review 16:Staff was very accommodating, decor was lovely, room size good, clean, little details like afternoon tea, cookies was a nice surprise. Price was a great value.

Review 17:We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The hotel is beautiful, clean and the rooms spacious. The staff goes above and beyond and were always upbeat and friendly.

Review 18:I did not like that we had to go back to the lobby a total of five times over our stay to get our room key reactivated

Review 19:Staff was courteous and friendly. Loved the fresh baked cookies at the desk.

Review 20:Just a little niggle, the heavy wooden headboards on the beds were wobbly.

Review 21:The hotel restaurant served high quality, fresh local food. Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Arrived on a wet autumn day but cheered by a real log fire. Our 11 and 13 year old boys enjoyed playing chess by the fire.

Review 22:No staff was ever at the reception desk to ask a question or put in a request. On a Sunday afternoon/evening, no staff was "allowed" to light a fire even though it was below freezing outside. We were told the manager was off for the night and no one else could light the fire. Then, we were told that someone would be up to do it shortly, but they never arrived. If it is advertised, it should be available at all times, plus what kind of special training do you need in upstate MA to light a fire? Don't you experience cold winters every year? Three people came up to clean up the table after the afternoon tea reception, but they left and did not refill the hot water. I could not refill my tea cup because no one was around by the reception desk to tell the water was empty. The bathroom by the gym was dirty and the garbage was overflowing. Disgusting. We waited to be seated for dinner for almost 10 minutes. No one even greeted us, they just kept walking passed us. If you are understaffed, hire more people, but don't make me wait that long. This hotel had so much potential; beautiful grounds, restaurant on premises, large sitting room, etc., but in the end, we left very disappointed.

Review 23:The location was good, the staff was polite and it had so much potential, but we left disappointed.

Review 24:The hotel is badly in need of refurbishing. Carpets are quite shabby and there is considerable deferred maintenance to be done, e.g. rotted wood in door framings. The landscaping, particularly in the front, has been neglected and the light bulbs at the entrance were burned out so it was difficult to find the entry drive at night.

Review 25:Very pleasant staff. Quiet and comfortable room

Review 26:The hotel tried to double bill me, charging for our one night the momentI booked on line, then giving us a bill for the same amount before wechecked out. The hotel needs sprucing up too, especially considering itsprices, and the fact that breakfast is not included. Mediocre value formoney all around.

Review 27:The decor of the hotel was tasteful but a little bit tired.

Review 28:Nothing -- loved everything!

Review 29:Rooms Efficient check-in Complimentary afternoon tea items and tea/coffee in a.m. pool price value for hotel luxury easy access to Williamstown art museums Amazing staff -- very customer focused

Review 30:We had Room 113. There was no WiFi, even with the assistance of the assistant manager and a techie who struggled to get it. Later, when we tried to leave the room we couldn't get the door to lock. After much trying, another techie came and reset the door. Was this a coincidence or a 13 event? The hotel needs to do something about its culinary staff. Our dinners were awful. Maybe that was because we took the $45X2 dinner event you suggested. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that their prixe fixe was similar to a hotel in the Cotswolds where one was expected to have dinner on site I would suggest that you avoid that add-on for your bookings. It only aggravates people when they discover they could have done better avoiding it and reflects on you.

Review 31:The atmosphere was of a country hotel in the Cotswolds, England. It was a wonderful change of pace and, if what we observed, it was great for families with children. The rooms are spacious and our bathroom was wonderful.

Review 32:The receptionist was extremely unwelcoming at check-in; one might say that she "had an attitude". We then discovered that our friends' reservation had been cancelled without our knowledge. Fortunately, I had a print-out confirmation for two rooms, one for us and one for our friends. Rather than assuring us that there was a room available that would be ready as soon as possible, she stared at the computer screen, sighing, making us feel as though we were causing the problem, and certainly not instilling confidence that there would be an available room. In the end, it all worked out and subsequent encounters with staff were courteous and appropriate.

Review 33:Hotel needs some maintenance work, chipping paint, rot at base of some exterior doors, chipped tiles in pool but overall very attractive

Review 34:Staff at front and restaurant very attentive, tasy food, nice rooms

Review 35:Very pleasant, spacious, and clean rooms. Responsive staff.

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:Room was extremely good Restaurant meal was also very good.

Review 64:Bathroom A/C Noise

Review 65:Decor Location Bed

Review 66:No coffee available to make in room. No complimentary newspapers.

Review 67:Atmosphere was pleasant and friendly.

Review 68:The service, the room, furniture, and food.

Review 69:Room too dark

Review 70:The place and attitude of Orchards was excellent and made for a very pleasing stay

Review 71:Noisy pilot light in gas fireplace. Proximity to street & traffic. (we were in Rm. 101).

Review 72:Mostly everything, especially library, workout room, cookies & apples, friendly and helpful staff, furnishings, and wall hangings.

Review 73:No indoor pool or hot tub, but we made due. Was a little bit pricey but worth it.

Review 74:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was large and clean (free upgrade) :). Gala restaurant was lovely, ate by the fire. Met Chris and Greg the bartender was a lot of fun. Our server Deb was very helpful and friendly.

Review 75:Long hallways

Review 76:Room was spacious and very comfortable. Great value for the money. Gala restaurant was excellent although a little pricey. Staff couldn't have been nicer

Review 77:We had trouble with the room temperature being way too hot- even though the thermostat read 66 degrees! Ended up turning it all completely off.

Review 78:Our room was spacious, quiet & lovely. Same with the bathroom. Received a free upgrade to a room with a fireplace. We used it briefly- see temperature note...

Review 79:Restaurant staff was unpleasant and not at all helpful. Food was good, but we were treated quite rudely by the head waitress.

Review 80:Lovely rooms! Front desk was welcoming and helpful

Review 81:Hotel was great but my husband was v sick after eating undercooked fish in the restaurant. We mentioned this to the hotel staff as we checked out next morning and his reply was, "mmm that's interesting". We had hoped he might be sympathetic or at least offer to inform the chef.

Review 82:Lovely decor

Review 83:Overnight trip to the area to visit the Clark Museum and for hiking onMt Greylock. The restaurant was excellent and a bargain. The hotel iswelcoming and very comfortable and not overly expensive. We would stayagain in a heartbeat!

Review 84:The long walk from rooms 200 to 2007 to the dining room and from the front desk! It would be much better with a more direct route to the dining room especially.

Review 85:All aspects of the room were comfortable and attractive. Enjoyed the dining room meals.

Review 86:Some minor difficulties with services provided (e.g. initial overcharging by front desk, defective room phone disconnected as a repair, noisy next door partying not stopped). Generally not as impressed as expected.

Review 87:Spacious and comfortable accommodations in a small college town. Convenient central location for visiting the world-famous Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.

Review 88:The room was very spacious and luxurious. The food was very good. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. The shampoo, soap, etc. were high quality.

Review 89:Staff at Check-In - Rude, Dismissive Came into lr for tea as attendantwas just removing it (we had just checked in and put our things in theroom to go back and get tea, so had no idea it ended promptly at 5). Shehead my daughter and I heavily sigh with sadness, and the attendant justkept walking. No offer to let us get a cup or even to say sorry that wehad missed it. Called Housekeeping at around 7:30-8pm (I guess it wasfront desk really) to ask for more pillows. The phone rang well over 20times...noone picked up. When we checked in we asked if there were otherplaces to eat in town (besides expensive hotel restaurant), but deskclerk would not really answer that question nor did she offer any listsor brochures for alternatives to hotel restaurant. Felt like we werebeing held hostage to only be able to eat there. Hotel is rather"tired" looking. Quite dated. Overall, really disappointed inthis property, especially the service (except for Dining Room where theywere all lovely). Bordered on rude. Did not feel valued as a guest atall. Will never stay there if our daughter ends up at Williams. Willfind anything else. Sorry, but it was just not pleasant.

Review 90:Staff at Hotel Restaurant were Professional and Friendly

Review 91:Not much. Would have enjoyed an indoor pool, but not a deal breaker.

Review 92:Friendly staff, special treatment in honor of our anniversary get-away weekend, very much enjoyed the restaurant offerings. We liked our very large room. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Orchards Hotel.

Review 93:I did not have any let downs while at the hotel.

Review 94:My Family enjoy a fun retreat to a wonderful location as is the Bershire area. the stay at your hotel gave us the confidence and security to go about and have a great time at the area ski resorts. the food was excellent we sure hope to see you sometime later on.

Review 95:The Hotel's decor definitely needs spiffing up. The decor while clean is very tired looking. Time for a face lift!

Review 96:Comfortable room and bed. Attentive staff. Quiet calming atmosphere.

Review 97:This is a very pleasant and classy hotel, beautifully situated for visits to the art museums in Williamstown and North Adams, and for hiking and other activities in the northern Berkshires. Our room was huge, with a king bed and gas fireplace. It represented very good value for the money. The breakfast, on the prepaid voucher, was a bargain and a great meal. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 98:The Hotel was in impeccable condition, and the facilities were impressive. We did not eat dinner there, but we had breakfast on Sunday morning which was outstanding. Enjoyed the bar as well the night before!

Review 99:The hotel was a bit old fashioned and twee. I prefer something more modern. I also thought it was quite expensive. The room was very similar to a "suites" type room but twice the price.

Review 100:The staff were courteous and friendly

Review 101:The room needs some renovations, like humidity stain on the ceiling, painting on the cabinets in the bathroom and some updates on the lavatory, floor marble with stains, shower with humidity stains.
