Reviews for Red Lion Hotel on the River Jantzen Beach Portland

Review 1:The bar was horrible Drinks were horrendous. Dj couldn't play music to save his/her soul and it hurt your head it was so loud. We will not be back.

Review 2:NOTHING

Review 3:First time to Portland. Picked the Red Lion for its location on the river. We were not disappointed. Despite the steady rain for the two nites we were there it was a great choice and we will be back in the summer

Review 4:Someone called the room phone at middle of the night, wake us up . We can not go back to sleep, then we all tired all day after that phone call in the middle of the night. It is a bad experience .

Review 5:Room is big .

Review 6:There was a stained towel under the shelf in the bathroom. The fridge was broken and the one they replaced it with was very moldy. There was no screen door on the balcony slider, could not air without risking the 2 year old falling off the balcony. The gaps between r the railing are big!? Had to ask for batteries for TV, meaning the housekeepers don't check the TV. I went to use the blanket and it had a horrible chemical smell, not laundry soap, more like it had been exposed to rocket fuel. I asked for a clean pillow and blanket set, the blanket looked and smelled much cleaner but the pillow smelled like sweaty greasy hair. My opinion is that although the housekeepers were friendly, they need managed and or trained better. I have done housekeeping and i know what should be done. You check the TV and remote, the clock and alarm, the micro and the fridge, coffee machine and hair dryer. The motor wasn't even running in the fridge. Other than that the Hotel is very beautiful and i would stay there again. Hope this helps :) Sincerely Carrie Skallerud

Review 7:The restaurant very was nice, food was great and a beautiful view. The service was very good. The front desk staff were very accommodating. The housekeepers were very nice. I did not get charged for the roll-away since i ended up not needing it. Great view from this room.#489 Was happy there was a high lock on the balcony slider. The rooms were very spacious. Plenty of towels and pillows.

Review 8:Staff very friendly/ helpful; rooms large and clean; great location on the water. Including a hot custom breakfast with a view of the Columbia River in our room rate was great!

Review 9:The sheets were rough and the pillow was horrible... it was noisy and it felt unsafe to walk to shopping... they also charged me twice for my room... I'm still trying to sort that out

Review 10:Restaurant food was very good

Review 11:During our stay we experienced rudeness from staff and restaurant. Waiter didnt tell us about the dinner special being offered we had to get the information from over hearing another waitress telling another patron. We was akaken by construction hammering and banging above and below us. At 8:00 in the morning.

Review 12:Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was great! Our room was upgraded to a single king instead of two queens. Was comfortable, clean and quiet enough for us. Planes do come in to PDX over the river so there is some background noise from them but it didn't bother us.

Review 13:The catering ana manager duty for totally different to power just pleasure with the new years eve party. How week we got our tickets at 5:00PM EST and come down in time when we arrive at 8:30 all seats were taken there were none of chairs available asking just don't stand. Very unhappy

Review 14:Room was a bit noisy. Room next to us had young kids...and we could hear them screaming... clearly.

Review 15:The view from the room was very nice. Located next to a river boardwalk. Nice to have a patio.

Review 16:The toilet was dirty The doors to the rooms slam if not held back, very loud. I woke up several times during the night to doors slamming.

Review 17:The breakfast was great. The décor is very nice. Your front desk staff are very friendly and helpful

Review 18:Our only problem during the entire stay was the fact that our room had two phones without dial tone... we were unable to phone the front desk or order room service which would have made our morning much better.

Review 19:Front Desk need uniforms, employees looked unprofessional. The walls are very thin. I could hear walking and bed banging above me all night and people talking in halls. I paid to lay awake all night. There are no fans or heaters to turn on to cover sounds from others.

Review 20:Beautiful Hotel.

Review 21:They should have been giving these rooms away for free. I found out from the locals that there was a shooting just a month prior - 2 women were injured - apparently gangsters were shooting from outside the hotel into the building. This should have been revealed to us before we booked our trip. We were just looking for a hotel out of the flight path but close to the airport for convenience. I never would have stayed here based on all of the issues - especially the shooting. We also got a room next to the freeway, so all night noise and the parking lot view to awaken to.

Review 22:The rooms were spacious - just incredibly outdated.

Review 23:There were a few ants that kept appearing at the vanity sink, but outside of that, it was nearly perfect!

Review 24:The room, the view, the balcony, it all was beautiful. The staff was pleasant, the food was good in the dining establishment. It was a great experience altogether!

Review 25:First of all the room in the basement (even if I booked months in advance) didn't produce the "woaw effect" expected… Old carpets everywhere… Breakfast not included and as to be ordered from the menu… Air conditionnal fixed twice, didn't work twice… Room price, restaurant price, bar price… And above all the conference room was cold as a refrigerator, I did attend the lectures with my jacket on the whole time and was still cold… But staff was friendly and tried to help us as much as they could. According to the price I hope that they are paid ok…

Review 26:The location Staff very kind Wifi working fine

Review 27:Wasnt in a room until 1am after a 6 hour drive and work all day. Tried to go to bed at 11pm, doors wouldnt open so I was put in a new room with no charger or clothes or anything. Woke up abruptly at 8am. not happy

Review 28:Big bed

Review 29:Beds were not comfortable. Rooms were a little dated and our room had a stench of stale smoke or wet dog when you first walk into the room. Otherwise it was pretty clean for what you get.

Review 30:Spacious rooms. Two sinks (one in the bathroom and one outside) which was necessary for us because we have a 4 month old and needed space for baby bottles and such. Microwave and fridge is necessary when traveling with a toddler and infant. Location is convienent. Parking is ample and free. Also complimentary breakfast coupons!

Review 31:The service at the bar was slow. The menu and beer/wine was over-priced for our taste. My meal was undercooked. We don't stay at places like this very often, though it was a very nice hotel.

Review 32:The riverfront view and the yachts moored at the dock provides plenty of photos opportunity.

Review 33:I always stay at Red Lion Hotels and this one have good entertainments just right inside the hotel itself. We had a wonderful time dancing the night away!

Review 34:the carpets around the elevator looked dirty. microwave didn't work to well

Review 35:breakfast meals at the onsite restaurant was very good. we were comp'd some breakfasts there and were glad we got to try it.

Review 36:Found long dark hair in our beds upon check in....creepy! The workout room was about 150 degrees and had no towels or water available. The lobby store was unavailable much of the time. Big disappointment.

Review 37:Location

Review 38:The check in staff was sloppy and unorganized, didn't seem to know what they were doing. We asked for a room with a balcony to see the water, we saw the tennis court. Our bathroom was filthy, mold, etc. I called and complained. Not going back. They refunded 35.00. For 210. we paid, we could've stayed at the Hilton for a much more value worth. Our 1st Anniversary was a bust. Not happy.

Review 39:walking along the Columbia

Review 40:When I arrived to take the room there's the thing about the deposit and the taxes I was surprised by them when I booked the room online it was in a budget and when I take the room it was in a different budget with a deposit ! The payment not a problem .. in my opinion it's better to put on the web all the room payment with the taxes and if there's a deposit for the room or not it's better to know that from the first place of booking.

Review 41:in my statement over there everything was great and the stuff was great to help me with anything I needed over there the resto stuff was great too I liked everything , like the location the placement of the hotel if I'll visit later Portland I'll stay over there and I prefer to take single room with one bed cos I didn't find when I booked it will better cos I take room with double bed for 2 person I didn't need and I had extra budget .. unless this everything was good

Review 42:I didn't like how I was treated when I was denied a room I booked because your site says I only needed cash and Red Lion refused to honor it and required me to have a credit card. When I tried to use my husbands they require him to be there. I felt stupid and embarrassed. We were remodeling our home, that is why we decided to book a room. He had to stop working and drive 45 minutes to show his face. In those 45 minutes I was told they had no control over what Booking.com advertised. They never apologized, offered coffee or started paperwork in order to hurry our process along. I was treated terribly. The room was huge. But, one of our beds had not been made. It pulls from the wall and it had been put up by the previous guest. They folded the old sheets and pillows inside with the bed along with an old room key. There were stains on the floor. Nasty white sticky stuff on the curtains in the bedroom. Gross.

Review 43:I liked that after my husband drive 45 minutes to show them he existed with his credit card, they upgraded my room.

Review 44:We mistakingly ate at a private buffet. No signs. No staff said anything to us. We were told by the parties coordinator. very embarassing. There should be comunication about breakfast when you check in.

Review 45:The bathroom floor was dirty and No kleenex and I asked For more shampoo and more conditioner and didnt get them. The hallway carpet was dirty stained and Smells.

Review 46:Close to home and I was celebrating My bday Dancing and drinking and didnt want to Drive home!

Review 47:It was way to far for my husband with the walker,he has parkinson'sdisease bad aND good days, plus we never did figure out how to get downon the walkway..we ended up watching the seahawks from our room withroom service then a sweetheart of a gal saw us at breakfast havingtrouble and said we could use the wheelchair while at the facilitythanks too tAMMY god bless her great job she wouldn't even take atip please reward her some how ... the front desk watched my husbandstruggle and never offered a helping hand..yet tAMMY offered out of thegoodness of her heart..you need more tAMMYS..MAYBE She needs a job atfront DESK...sINCERELY dONNA and jERRY gOINGS

Review 48:We loved our room with the view of the columbia and pool

Review 49:Wished there was someplace to freeze blue packs for return of travel.

Review 50:All staff were friendly..helpful. Excellent location off and on I-5. Close to Portland City Center, and Excellent walking along the River. Surprisingly quiet so close to airport.

Review 51:Breakfast service, room not being cleaned at 8:30 pm and note that due to personal belongings on bed, the room could not be made, was not made aware of that $50 incidental charges were added to credit card at check in

Review 52:View onto the river was great. Pool, spa and restaurant facilities are very nice

Review 53:1.Our room clearly was designed to have a couch or easy chair in that there was a large blank space on the wall. On inquiry, I was told that our particular room didn't get one, a silly technicality 2.Their policy is to put a credit card hold for the # nights reserved plus $25/night for "extras." So they did this for the 3 nights we reserved when we checked in, then, when we added a 4th night put a 4 night hold on to of the 2 night hold.

Review 54:Room was comfortable and location was convenient.

Review 55:The Wi-Fi wasn't too good to play games though.

Review 56:The bedroom and the bathroom were really huge. The room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Overall, the stay was an enjoyable one, and I'd come back here again in the future.

Review 57:I feel for the outdated facilities, old air ventilation system and no Working AC, it could have been Rated closer to $130 vs $188. However I still enjoyed the room and the woman checking me in did a fabulous job giving me a views

Review 58:The view of the river, and the staff was superb! Also free parking!!

Review 59:The room didnt get vacuumed during our stay, the water pressure in the non bathroom sink was a trickle, the noise from the planes was pretty loud and they don't honor any award points memberships.

Review 60:The view of the river and the kids liked the pool.

Review 61:Heater wasn't working and leaked water all night! They fixed it but it was still cold! And more water was dripping from the ceiling.no refund or what so ever.

Review 62:The title "on the beach" is a little misleading for inexperienced travellers, since the river Jantzen doesn't really have a "beach" anywhere near the hotel. Elevators could not stop at the first floor in our wing for some reason.

Review 63:The room was great, clean and staff was more than willing to help with inquiries. The facilities were in good condition, especially the pool. Lots of free parking available at the hotel.

Review 64:Although the location was pretty good both to reach Portland downtown and the airport, the facility is located next to I-5. We had a room just in front of I-5 and it was very noisy during all the night. On the booking page there was no clear indication about room position.

Review 65:Room was clean.

Review 66:Communication between the Check in desk and the shuttle drivers. I had several long waits at the TriMet station. I said I was at the Expo Train Station, I waited outside the parking area in the pull in area as I was told. to do and it took over an hour. This was on Saturday the 28th of August. The driver was excellent, but the girl at the desk never got it. Some training regarding Expo vs Expo station would help. And I am planning on staying at the Red Lion in the late fall. The convenience of the shuttle/TriMet is what I like the most. Respectfully, William Smith

Review 67:The room we had was in the very basement that had a view of the dirt and partial parking lot. Our window did not have a screen nor did it lock, didn't feel super secure or safe down in the hole of the room.

Review 68:Front desk guy was very nice and inviting!

Review 69:This facility is run down and in need of upgrades. The room was clean, but this hotel is clearly far past its prime

Review 70:Location is quiet and accessible to walk along river, but at least a 15-20 min drive from downtown.

Review 71:Cleanliness was a concern. Noticed gelato in the refrigerator from a previous guest and crumbs left in the drawers where you put clothes. Our entire wing's AC went out. We weren't notified so after a day of exploring Portland and surrounding area we came back to a hot room. We were given a new room but it was quite a hassle to move all of our things across the property at 10PM at night. No free breakfast or compensation was offered and they certainly didn't offer to help with our bags. Also, I can't be 100% sure but I have noticed little red bumps appearing since I got back which may have meant I was exposed to bed bugs but I can't confirm. Given the cleanliness record I'm not ruling it out. Also the gym could be updated.

Review 72:The location of this facility is pretty good. Close to I5 which grocery store, target, starbucks nearby. 10-15 min to downtown and it is on the river. Beds were pretty comfortable. A nice dock on the river.

Review 73:The food at the restaurant was good, but, the service was below average.

Review 74:The view of the river was great, and a really nice pool. Overall, it was a good layout. The location between Portland and Vancouver was perfect.

Review 75:The location was on island on the Columbia River, Our room overlooked the pool and the river. The island has a cute little floating restaurant that was a highlight. The room was spacious and very comfortable.

Review 76:The elevators were a bit wonkie. It wouldn't go down to the first floor so I had to walk around to get to the exit to my car.

Review 77:The room was very spacious and very comfortable. The view of the river was great and I wish I had more time to stay and enjoy the pool!

Review 78:Reception staff not very caring; one of them was entirely incompetent. Very noisy because of starting aircraft and bridge with heavy traffic close by.

Review 79:Nothing.

Review 80:Pets have to remain with guests at all times. They cannot be left alone in room or in vehicle. This makes enjoyment of hotel very difficult.

Review 81:Location is very convenient

Review 82:Fencing on terraces and balconies is inadequate - small children can easily go through it and fall; we could not use our balcony. Cleanliness could be a tad better for this price (or price a tad lower). It's not that they keep it badly - it's more like the last renovation was a bit ago and few stains here and there accumulated over time.

Review 83:River location; the pool and hot tub; breakfast was pretty tasty, but don't opt for the breakfast included option: it is barely 10$ discount from menu items - better keep flexibility to decide on the spot. Two sinks, microwave and fridge in the room. Overall it's not an 8 score hotel, but it's good. I liked it and would give it solid 7+.

Review 84:VERY noisy when outside or breakfast deck Freeway very close Very long hall to find the room Bad quality breakfast Every thing is brownish. Decoration.....

Review 85:i had many problems in terms of connected rooms (family with small and big kids) and WC flooding. the WC flooded twice during my 5 nights stay and i was forced to change the room to another in the other side of the facility.

Review 86:next to the River with a very convenient location.

Review 87:We stayed for two nights, the room did not get cleaned for the first day.

Review 88:The hotel locates at the Janzen island, which is very nice. The hotel feels like a big resort. We did all the shopping there. Also you can drive to the nearby light rail station and get to the down easily.

Review 89:It is way over priced. I paid $850.00 for three days. It is three stars hotel in my view. Too noisy, close to the airport. The hotel appears to be built in the 70s. Bathroom is so outdated. If you are looking for a hotel, look for another one close by. It is not worth the money I have paid.

Review 90:I like the location, the hotel is by the river if you are lucky enough to get the right room. Also the hotel has plenty of parking and close to shopping and restaurants.

Review 91:The staff need a freight elevator. We had to use the same small elevator as the staff. They were pleasant, but way too casual in their conversation considering us guests were right next to them. So we had long waits for the elevator and couldn't even get on since they were full of laundry carts and the staff. Bed linens were worn out, rough to the touch, and ill fitting; pillows were hard and flat. If you purchase breakfast with your room, you are very limited in what you can order, or you get $10 off the restaurant menu. My toast was burnt, hash browns looked very old and were salty and greasy. Coffee was poor, and service was worse. I definitely won't go there again. Oh, and the facility is right next to I5 freeway so patio is noisy. I did not use swimming facilities.

Review 92:Nothing, unfortunately

Review 93:All of the temperature controls for our room and water temperature seemed to be backwards! We were very cold so we turned the heat all the way up and froze all night. The next morning out of curiosity I turned it to all the way to cold and the room warmed up. The same thing seemend to happen with our shower.

Review 94:Hotel was well maintained and decorated, great friendly staff, free parking, right on the river with a beautiful view. I also thought the complimentary shampoo/conditioner was great quality!

Review 95:I think renovation is not a good time, we want to avoid the entrance because of some people working around which is not good for people thats in vacation

Review 96:convennient, and quiet room

Review 97:We didn't like how you could hear everything. People walking and talking in the halls. People beside us and on top of us. Basically the room could have been better insulated. Especially for $314 a night.

Review 98:The bed was comfy and the staff was great

Review 99:My only complaint is that the hotel seemed understaffed. Upon arrival bytheir shuttle, after the tiny hostess helped unload our luggage onto thecart, there was no one to help carry it up! Seriously, she was tiny anddidn't offer, so I didn't ask. We had 2 heavy suitcases, loadedbackpack, loaded beach bag, heavy bag of medical equipment and portableoxygen concentrator. No one else around and only one person at the deskwhen we got inside to check in. And this would be bad enough in a regular-sized hotel, but I believe we were 3 wings out from the front desk. Itwas just a lot of energy with a chronic illness and a toddler. (Myhusband had taken the max from the airport to the car rental facility. He did all the work upon departure.)

Review 100:Great bargain...river and mountain view! Room included refrigerator andmicrowave. It was spacious and nice enough...we weren't in Portlandfor the hotel! We basically just slept here.

Review 101:I had a bad experience with breakfast. I needed to have breakfast before my family but there was no flexibily. I had to wake up my childrem early. Very unconfortable no help...

Review 102:Good position amd nice pool

Review 103:The parking lot was being resurfaced and made getting in and out of the hotel really inconvenient. It was overpriced. The breakfast was a $10 coupon off the menu, not enough to pay for the breakfast.

Review 104:The hotel seemed understaffed and the common areas were not kept up. The hallways needed a good carpet cleaning.

Review 105:The hotel rooms were updated and clean.

Review 106:The hallway was very cold. The housekeeper forgot to change the drinking glasses but everything else was good.

Review 107:The room was very comfortable and the bed was great. The bathroom was very good as was the pool area.

Review 108:It was slightly confusing about breakfast and so we didn't partake in breakfast at the hotel.

Review 109:The area was lovely, quiet and peaceful. The view was ok but I had booked the extra view and felt that I got a little gipped on that.

Review 110:1. Dinner selections were limited. 2. Plan to stay away from commute times when returning to this location from south. Spent 20 minutes on the exit ramp to this loaction because of merging traffic.

Review 111:1. Great location as just off I-5 and very quiet. Easy access from the north and going into Portand. 2. Ate dinner there two nights and enjoyed being outside to watch the river traffic.

Review 112:Only downside was the fact that they started construction on the parking lot during my stay, and we weren't informed beforehand.

Review 113:The bed was extremely comfortable and the WiFi was great. Given how hot it was in Portland, the AC was also excellent. It was very pleasant for a mini-vacation.

Review 114:Dirty behind night stands and bed area! Made me feel creepy, when I saw the neglect of dirt around head of bed.....yuck

Review 115:View, pool, and general location. Restaurant great!

Review 116:When we got to our room, there was still trash in it from the previous person. The first staff member I talked with was very nice and friendly. The other girl at the desk would not even look at me or attend to my needs after I went up and waited. It was also really noisy around our room and the bed was uncomfortable.

Review 117:We enjoyed being able to walk out of our room and go to the pool.

Review 118:The hotel is in a beautiful location on Hayden Island and the room was very clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. There was a mix up in the booking, however Latya handled it with ease. The pool was nice with several large seating areas with tables and umbrellas. Latya recommended the Island cafe for dinner and it was excellent.

Review 119:It was a bit of a walk to get to our room from the main lobby. The hotel itself seems a bit old, with older carpet and some noticeable cracks and issues throughout the hotel. The bed while nice for lounging and watching TV, was a bit hard for sleeping.

Review 120:The location was pretty nice. We had a room with a view of the tennis courts and river.

Review 121:low water pressure in the sinks, and toilet didn't have a strong flush. no kitchen in room.

Review 122:shower was all marble with a bench. it was beautiful and felt great. room had a mini-fridge, a microwave, and a patio. also, extra sink and mirror OUTSIDE of the bathroom.

Review 123:The hotel www run down and the room was old feeling. The bed was so lumpy. Definitely not the picture of comfort...just ok and utilitarian. Glad we were gone most of the days.

Review 124:We loved the location and the outdoor pool.

Review 125:Very loud! Airplanes taking off and landing all day and night. If you are on the river side you have VERY loud traffic from the bridge. You can hear the people walking around in the room above you. Bring earplugs so you have a peaceful sleep.Bathtub grout had some mold.

Review 126:Location provided easy access to all things Portland. Room was large. WiFi was fast!

Review 127:The hotel carpets in the hallways need to change , The pool towels are very dirty I couldn't take one they were so dirty

Review 128:The rooms are big and clean and the breakfast was great

Review 129:A mug of cigarettes and another of coffe were left on the balcony. Leftover coffee "pad" was left in the coffee maker. The rubber mat that goes in the shower was dirty - could've easily been cleaned! And the shower floor was dirty (may have been old stains from over the years), I was tempted to put a clean towel in the floor of the shower because I know that had been cleaned with bleach!

Review 130:I was upgraded to the presidential suite! Spacious room with three balconies facing the pool and the river. Huge bathroom with roomy shower.

Review 131:There was no duvet cover-just two sheets sandwiching the duvet/comforter. Not very good for those that move about in their sleep, ended up with a hotel duvet without any sheets on it covering me!

Review 132:The hoyel was dated and could use more cleaning. The hotel ran out of toilet paper when I was staying at hotel.

Review 133:The location was great, and it was a good value.

Review 134:Nothing. Checkin staff was generic service.

Review 135:Our room was on the 4th floor with a balcony view overlooking the pool and the Columbia River that was just amazing!
