Reviews for Albion Hotel

Review 1:Arrival and check in was fast and efficient. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was central to the main square. The breakfast was included in the price and was fantastic for a continental breakfast. Definitely will stay here again

Review 2:A very unassuming hotel that functions perfectly, quiet, friendly and a great base for visiting Flanders, indeed most of Belgium and Nord France is within easy reach.

Review 3:Some staff seemed very frustrated that I wanted ice to take to my room. I was actually told no at one point. Ice!? Very disappointing!

Review 4:Rooms are comfortable. Love the location

Review 5:Everything was good

Review 6:The hotel was first class very clean bathroom excellent with everything you would want . Breakfast perfect , staff very helpfull and friendly.

Review 7:Very good location and very quiet, despite being so close to the town-centre. Rooms were good and bathrooms excellent. Very friendly and helpful receptionist.

Review 8:Excellent hotel with very attentive staff who were eager to assist and help wherever they could. The hotel was very good and the new extension and reception area will enhance the visitor experience.

Review 9:Superb central position hotel with very helpful, friendly, caring and professional multi lingual staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. On site parking is to be added soon which will be an added bonus as parking in Ypres can be a bit hit and miss at times. Thank you, we will return again very soon.

Review 10:This is a hotel conveniently placed in the centre of Ieper. The staff are charming & friendly, the rooms are comfortable and anything you need is already there. Breakfast is continental and covers everything from fruit to ham & cheese with delicious breads. The gentle friendliness of the people in Ieper will ensure that you always want to return.

Review 11:Nothing at all. Best hotel (Big or small) I have stayed in for a while.

Review 12:From the minute we checked in and before the courtesy, helpfulness and general nothing would be a problem attitude of the staff was a great bonus and many larger hotel chains could learn a lesson. The place was immaculate and perfect for our stay in the wonderful town of Ypres.

Review 13:Warm and friendly welcome from staff, who spoke perfect English and were very helpful. Excellent position of hotel (convenient and quiet), also its spacious bedrooms and even spacious bathrooms.

Review 14:Beware where you park as hotel not got any parking and street parking nearby is metered

Review 15:Everything. Beautiful hotel with clean, smart rooms which were modern but still sympathetic in style to old building. Fantastic location just off main square.

Review 16:The hotel was clean, comfortable and reasonably close to the centre of town. Staff were helpful and pleasant, the room was nice to come back to after a day of sightseeing.

Review 17:Nothing. Tidy renovation being carried out to improve the hotel.

Review 18:Clean well presented and staffed with a friendly team. Close to centre and Ypres main tourist needs. Free parking a bonus.

Review 19:Out dated furnishing and expensive particularly compared with our stay in Bruges. Breakfast was very limited and basic

Review 20:Its position for what we were visiting in ypres

Review 21:The Location is excellent. It is within walking distance to the Menin Gate, the Flanders Museum and the town Square. Parking is available. They are currently upgrading their check in and breakfast area. The breakfast that was provided was great and the staff were really nice. The staff were very knowledgeable about the area and keen to make sure we had a lovely stay. The room we had overlooked the local cathedral and was very spacious. When in Ieper again I would definitely stay here.

Review 22:Nothing. Hotel car park will be better when finished. Unable to use because access street blocked by builders.

Review 23:Information provided and helpfulness of the staff. Location close to action.

Review 24:Would highly recommend as no complaint at all.

Review 25:Bedrooms and bathrooms excellent, cleanliness really good. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Restaurant recommended by a receptionist excellent, dined there throughout our stay.

Review 26:as a suggestion, the hotel would do well to open an evening restaurant/meal for staying guests

Review 27:location,the hotel being small made it more friendly and personal

Review 28:Access to their car park very narrow.

Review 29:Spacious, well equipped room. Friendly, helpful staff. Good location - a short walk to town centre and Menin Gate.

Review 30:Always very helpful and friendly staff, stayed here many times and the standards have always been maintained. Although the hotel has no restaurant, the receptionist will always book you a meal, I have never been disappointed with their choice. They rooms are clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and clean. Will be going back again.

Review 31:Nothing to dislike - it was great.

Review 32:We stayed in 8 hotels on our journey through Belgium, Germany and France from 3 to 5 star ratings. We consider that The Albion Hotel was better than some of the 4 star hotels. The Albion was comfortable, clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a very good start to our holiday. Thank you Albion.

Review 33:Breakfast room/bar was only communal area in which to relax, and it was all tables & chairs with only a couple of small armchairs in one corner. This may be improved when new extension (currently in progress) is completed?

Review 34:Good location not far from central square and Menin Gate. Perfectly adequate bedroom and en suite bathroom for a short stay. Helpful staff.

Review 35:Room had no safe to store valuables and it was too hot to sleep without opening the window and having loud street noise. No air con. Towels are for slim people only! Hairdryer in bathroom is useless.

Review 36:Cleanliness Shower and separate bath.

Review 37:Would have appreciaed bring able to have had dinner in the hotel. That said the restaurants in the area were excellent.

Review 38:The staff were lovely and the location of the hotel was perfect.

Review 39:I don't like just a doona on the bed because it means I am too hot with it on or too cold with it off. However, when I asked for my bed to be made up with a sheet and a blanket, that was done without any hesitation.

Review 40:The location is excellent, the rooms are a good size. The staff and owners are so polite, friendly and helpful. In this small family hotel they treat you as an honoured family guest.

Review 41:The beds in our room were a little uncomfortable for our likes but could be fine for others - a minor point and not to distract from the great facilities over all.

Review 42:Great flexibility, very helpful staff, parking availability, great air conditioning. Amazingly close to main attractions of the historic town. Staff so accomodating with early book in and leaving luggage etc. Very motorcycle friendly without being a biker hang out.

Review 43:Leaving!

Review 44:The room on the top floor - which probably meant it was a little smaller, but was perfectly furnished. Lovely big bed, excellent bathroom. There was nothing we needed that hadn't been provided.

Review 45:Just the problems with roads being shut off and no tours going out as they could not get minibuses in and out of town which was a shame as this is what we wanted to do.

Review 46:The town of ypres is beautiful and well worth the stay but the only problem was nobody had told us it was the gecko rally car racing weekend so we didn't want to move the car in case we couldn't get back as most roads were shut if we had known we would have gone another time

Review 47:Absolutely nothing.

Review 48:From the moment we arrived after travelling 300+ miles from home we were welcomed and given all the necessary information for our stay. Although they were having some alterations done this didn't spoil the cleanliness of all rooms. The bedrooms were spotless and very well appointed. Out of the 6 hotels we stayed in this was voted the best. Breakfast was included in the room rate as was excellent. Very close to town centre and Menin Gate for evening commemoration. Parking was in the street nearby which was free after about 6pm but a card could be obtained from reception to display in the windscreen for the following day with only a deposit required. all in all a great place to stay.

Review 49:We found the staff friendly, welcoming and very helpful with suggestions for restaurants etc and especially for helping with the parking. Breakfast very good.

Review 50:A nice hotel, very convenient for the centre of Ypres. Small, boutique-style attic room, immaculately clean. Breakfasts continental style and good. The hotel is in the process of renovation. No building noise detected. On street parking (the hotel lends you a dashboard badge to display).

Review 51:The only downside was the lack of an English Channel on the TV, but this is not a great problem in the days of the Internet.

Review 52:Large, spotlessly clean and comfortable room with great shower room etc. The reception staff were cheerful, knowledgeable and helpful. Hotel is 5 minutes walk from the Gros Mrkt and there is plenty of parking close by.

Review 53:Didn't like the foam pillows. Found them very hot during the night.

Review 54:Extremely helpful staff. I left early on the last day, the breakfast not available at this time. The staff made me some food and refreshments to take away during the night and left it outside my room for collection in the morning. Much appreciated.

Review 55:Mattress protector although welcome made things a little sticky during the night.

Review 56:Perfect location, staff very helpful with local knowledge of places to visit, even changing the time on the free parking permit.

Review 57:- not the hotels fault as they were served off premises but got woken up by some other guests (group of young boys) who were drunk and rude, waking up other guests up in the middle of the morning because they couldn't handle their alcohol

Review 58:- Staff so friendly and helpful - Off street parking - Bar & restaurant / library area - Very close to main attractions

Review 59:Nothing.

Review 60:We liked the location quality and cleanliness of this hotel. The staff were very friendly efficient and helpful. Our room was lovely and the continental breakfast was extensive and of excellent quality.

Review 61:This hotel is very clean and comfortable with all facilities. It has easy access to all the places of interest in ypres. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast is always fresh and inviting. Parking can be difficult at times but the hotel is being renovated to include onsite parking.

Review 62:Nothing all good loved the Breakfast

Review 63:Large comfortable clean room with WiFi and TV coffee making facility. On suite spotless clean lovely shower clean soft towels and shampoos. Stayed here many time during repeated visits to Ypres, and will return

Review 64:There was a church just opposite that rang its bells in the morning. Great if you want a wake up call, not so much if you like a lay in.

Review 65:It was a 2 minutes walk to the town centre and also away from anywhere busy so the nights were quiet. The room was large and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and always informative and helpful.

Review 66:The staff were all extremely friendly, the bathroom finished to a very high standard and the rooms were spotlessly clean. In an excellent location - just two minutes walk from Cloth Hall, the main square and the Menin Gate. There was a large choice at breakfast, and plenty of parking nearby. Reception will give you an overnight parking permit.

Review 67:None

Review 68:First rate welcome by receptionist. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Parking is free with disc provided by hotel, but only for 3 hours, but staff are happy to enter your car to move the time disc on. Very clean, comfy beds.

Review 69:Struggling to find a fault, I suppose that no parking at the hotel could be a problem in high season, but street parking was not a problem for us

Review 70:friendly and helpful staff

Review 71:Great location, close to Menin Gate, central square with Cloth Hall and restaurants. Really friendly staff. Useful breakfast area/bar/reading room stocked with historical books (we were visiting WW1 sites) Safe storage for bicycles (we were cycle touring) - a bit of a walk round the back. Great breakfasts.

Review 72:Perfect location - just a short walk into the main square. Plenty to choose from at breakfast. Staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating.

Review 73:The lady on nights in the lobby was a bit rude and seemed irritated when we requested ice.

Review 74:Upon reception the front desk clerk was amazing giving us clear directions to local attractions along with a map. She was very kind and helpful. The room was lovely and perfectly located to area attractions.

Review 75:Nothing, perfect stay.

Review 76:The very helpful staff, and despite the building works there was no impact on our stay. Can't wait to go back this summer, when all the new rooms are available.

Review 77:NO SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX OR FRIDGE IN ROOM YET.

Review 78:THE LARGE SHOWER CUBICLE&EFFICIENT SHOWER, THE SPACIOUS ROOM, THE STAFF, THE LOCATION, THE COMFORTABLE BEDS.

Review 79:I just cant get used to the square pillows but it was no big deal.

Review 80:Immaculately clean, very polite, helpful staff, so close to everything, parking outside or within 50m,lovely breakfast, nice library of books. Will stay here again on next battlefield trip.

Review 81:My request for a room with bath rather than shower was overlooked but would have been put right if we had wanted to change.

Review 82:Very pleasant staff. Comfortable and spacious room. Spacious lounge with good value bar and good breakfast..

Review 83:Helpful staff, welll appointed and comfortable rooms, good spread for breakfast, great location, flexible service (stays open later than most hotels), would definitely stay again.

Review 84:The hotel is in a great location with nearby parking. The recently refurbished room with large, comfortable bed was excellent and the bathroom even better. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Buffet breakfast was extensive with everything being replenished as necessary.

Review 85:It was the second time I had stayed at the hotel, last year I brought my disabled employer, and was very satisfied with both the accommodation and the staff and would certainly return again and recommend to family and friends

Review 86:The 'blurb' suggested a city view ...there is NO city view apart from the top of the tall buildings. The receptionist did not care one iota and it irritated my partner as it was the night before my birthday.

Review 87:Breakfast was good. Location good Room was ok, clinical no character.

Review 88:Slightly expensive but worth it for a treat

Review 89:Breakfast preferences were remembered on subsequent days. Customer satisfaction is really important to them. The dining and breakfast area very calming comfortable. Very close to town centre and Menin Gate.

Review 90:Only the cold outside which was provided by mother nature.

Review 91:Everything about our stay went beyond expectations. Room was comfortable and airy and staff informative.

Review 92:Although the room looked a bit "spartan" and did not have cozy feeling, it was compensated by new bed and clean new bathroom.

Review 93:Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was clean with new bed and bathroom. Wifi worked well. The hotel was no-frill, offering only basic amenities and breakfast. But that was good enough for me. Location was good (about 12-15 minutes walk from train station) with shops and attractions nearby. Has elevator. Recommended.

Review 94:Been before so knew what a great location this is in so we were perfectly placed for the town centre and Xmas market. Ypres is now a lovely town with a moving and tragic history and this is a great base to explore from.

Review 95:Some works going on, hotel being enlarged. Not too much inconvenience though

Review 96:Excellent breakfast Friendly and helpful staff Comfort of bed Large warm bathroom/shower room Location Wi fi and TV Warmth Parking on street opposite hotel

Review 97:Twin beds were only 2' 6" (75cms) wide.

Review 98:Location, Off Street Parking, Family run Hotel with the owners going all out to make sure their guests are happy. Buffett Breakfast (Known in locally as a "Belgium Sunday Buffett Breakfast") fresh fruit salad, cerals, yogurt, crossants, toast, rolls & fresh bread, cheese & cold meats. We had a twin room which was a disabled room. My partner having spent time in a wheel chair, we could immediately see that this bedroom & bathroom (10 sq metres) was specifically equiped for wheel chair use to a VERY high standard. WiFi was very fast and free. Tea/Coffee facilities in each room

Review 99:The hotel was being refurbished but presently has a rather institutional feel. Needs to be given a cosier atmosphere

Review 100:Very helpful, pleasant staff. Very short walk to restaurants, bars and main attractions.

Review 101:Didn't eat evening meal or lunch at hotel (lots of restaurants on main square to choose from) so can't comment on food quality, though breakfast was basic, 'continental' only with no option to have anything cooked to order. It sufficed.

Review 102:Fantastic location, short walk (5mins) from main square, menin gate etc. Friendly staff who spoke excellent English. Best shower in a hotel yet.Clean rooms. Parking provided to rear of hotel,(down a narrow entrance, though can be reached from front of hotel, just have to get out and move the wire fencing-building work going on) All in all a good hotel. Well worth a look at.

Review 103:Hotel Car Park: a little tricky to negotiate, but they are fixing it

Review 104:Such helpful Reception team. Pleasant buffet breakfast - nice atmosphere in the bar. Excellent hotel and beautifully managed

Review 105:Small hotel within 3 mins walk from the centre. Friendly welcome on arrival and hotel has a small bar. Breakfast was basic but plentiful fruit, toast, croissants and cereal etc. Great place to stay if you are planning a weekend in ypres!!

Review 106:Can't think of anything negative to say.

Review 107:Excellent location, very comfortable, lovely breakfast with good choice of food. Staff very friendly and helpful. Has own car park which is very convenient.

Review 108:Not a lot. Pretty happy all round.

Review 109:Friendly staff. Breakfast was continental but more than enough. They have parking but not easy to reach. However, there is plenty of parking just 25 metres from the hotel (free after 6pm, or get a free 3hour pass from reception). Would be happy to use again.

Review 110:The overview of the hotel advises that parking is in public parking nearby but we were also offered free parking in their own car park that was under construction nearby. We were warned this was down a very narrow alley, they weren't kidding!! This will soon be sorted once building is finished as access appears to be via a larger road on the new extension

Review 111:The hotel was right in the centre of Ypres but down a nice quiet street. The staff were very friendly and all the facilities were great

Review 112:Nothing much. The hotel is in a bit of a state of flux whilst it is being extended but that is only temporary and meanwhile the work presents very little noticeable disturbance if any.

Review 113:A very pleasant and quiet city centre location yet convenient for main square, Menin Gate etc. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Comfortable room recently fitted. car parking close by.

Review 114:It is a matter of taste and I like a bath, especially when there is plenty of room for one to be accommodated. An excellent shower in my room, others may have had both.

Review 115:This is a superbly located hotel a coupe of minutes from the Menin Gate. I had an excellent room with maximum comfort. The breakfast was good and staff were super-courteous. Excellent. I would recommend 100% and stay again.

Review 116:Lovely hotel in the centre of Ypres; clean, quiet and very comfortable. Exceptionally friendly staff who were welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. Nice modern rooms with English channels piped in. Large bath perfect for warming up after cold day on the battlefields. There is a pleasant breakfast room which doubles up as a bar in the evening; I believe the hotel are working on their evening offer!

Review 117:Hotel parking- very narrow approach. I understand that the hotel owners have improvements planned, however.

Review 118:Location Very friendly and helpful staff. Great service. Great breakfast.

Review 119:Disappointed we couldn't stay longer.

Review 120:The location of this hotel for our short break was ideal for all the key places of interest, shops and restaurants. Our rooms were contemporary, comfortable, well equipped and clean. All staff were approachable, attentive and polite. Car parking, despite current building work in progress remained accessible

Review 121:The breakfast - a cappuccino would have been lovely and a little more variety of choice.

Review 122:The location of the hotel is fabulous. Close to the market square and the Menin Gate with a fabulous bakery nearby. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, warm and welcoming. The room was lovely with a spacious bathroom and comfortable beds.

Review 123:To feel comfortable enough to be able to use the hotel as our home base for the week. Staff extremely professional and welcoming. Very good breakfast, unhurried, god choice, friendly staff.

Review 124:The hotel is close to the centre The staff are friendly speak fluent English and very helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast is of very good quality. The free enclosed Car Park was useful and the staff were generous enough to allow us to use it as long as we liked on the day of our departure. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Leper.

Review 125:pretty much everything well positioned for the town centre but still quiet enough for a good nights sleep Excellent secure free parking a short 3 min walk from the hotel
