Reviews for Best Western Pony Soldier
Review 1:Sleep in our room at the rear on second floor was interrupted by train horns and military jets. When we return, we will request a different location since on an earlier stay at the motel we had no no problem.
Review 2:Staff could not be nicer or more helpful. A request we had made with our reservation produced the extra pillows in the room upon our arrival! Breakfast is good for price of room. Parking is convenient and feels safe. For our purposes, the location near the 84 was helpful.
Review 3:Nada!
Review 4:The staff here is the most wonderful, friendliest group we've ever encountered in a hotel. Everyone made us feel like an honored guest of a warm, loving family. The room was comfortable and roomy, the bed was perfect, and the breakfast had a wonderful variety to satisfy everyone. This was the second time we've stayed here, and we plan on making it a regular stop when we fly into and out of Portland.
Review 5:There was no shuttle when I arrived at PDX but the kind lady at the airport arranged for a taxi (the hotel paid). Reception was impersonal when I arrived and the ladies preferred to talk about the various merits of wearing wrist supports rather than greet a new guest. First impressions are important and after travelling for 24 hours it makes a difference on how you are greeted. Sorry! I had two stays at this hotel during a two week period and although I had reserved an Executive Suite for both stays - I did not get a balcony on the second stay. Rooms were identical but note that one only gets a balcony if the room overlooks the pool / courtyard. I asked for a room with a balcony but was told there were none available. However, the second room (overlooking some mobile homes) was quieter than the first! Someone shouted at guests using the hot tub on my first night there and woke me up. The sign on the pool stated it was closed but since the gate was unlocked I guess the guests thought they could use the facilities. I think it is never acceptable to shout at the guests!!
Review 6:The hotel was close to the airport and the Max rail. Rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was very nice. Breakfast and housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. The shuttle was available when I left the hotel and the driver was excellent.
Review 7:We asked for a non-smoking room. Unfortunately it reeked of stale cigarette smoke. When I explained this at the reception I was told the room next door was a smoking room and obviously the smoke does affect the room we were in.
Review 8:The location to the airport was excellent.
Review 9:It was a bit of a bummer to have the pool out of service during our stay, and the hot tub was a little luke warm for my taste.
Review 10:I loved the complimentary morning breakfast - the selection was so vast and delicious. I also loved the pillows - I slept well and normally that doesn't happen unless I'm in my own bed!
Review 11:My only nitpick is the Best Western I stayed in the previous night was slightly better, but I also payed more to stay there. All things considered, I'm still glad I booked here.
Review 12:Even though there were many cars, parking was available throughout the night. The location isn't the most lively part of the city, but it is conveniently close to banks/ATMs, gas stations, and restaurants.
Review 13:None
Review 14:Everyone, from the shuttle driver to the chamber maid, was warm, friendly, and happy. It seems to be a great place to work, which in turn makes it a great place to stay. I haven't experienced this level of upbeat staff in any other hotel/motel I've ever stayed in. The next time we need to overnight in Portland, we'll be reserving our stay here!
Review 15:Good hotel for a quick stay near the airport. Courteous staff, free airport shuttle, free breakfast and if you have a rental car, two gas stations - one across the street, one a block down. I returned my rental a night early and then took their shuttle to the airport the next day. Room was clean and spacious.
Review 16:Everything was good for our stay. Waffles better than premade eggs
Review 17:Clean ,comfortable , average hotel breakfast, close to airport with airport shuttle. Will also pick up at car rental return if asked
Review 18:Fridge didn't work, musty smell in room.
Review 19:Big room with comfy bed and pillows. Great staff and facilities (pool, fitness, sauna, laundry). Breakfast included.
Review 20:We stayed one night and left fairly earlier in the morning. The breakfast in the morning was great and the staff was really friendly. It's an older building, but the room was bright and clean. Thanks for the comfortable nights rest!
Review 21:Quite far from downtown Portland; 10 mins walk to the tram station plus additional 30-40 minutes required.
Review 22:Comfortable, spacious and clean room with all required facilities. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 23:We only stayed one night.Close to airport, we had an early flight home. Shuttle to airport was available. Restaurant was close by and very nice.our room was beautiful, very clean.
Review 24:Scratchy sheets. Pillows short and too full. Scrambled eggs not good. Seemed like fake eggs. Key kept failing to open door. Even staff had problems two separate times.
Review 25:Close to airport. Great shuttle service. Nice room. Hotel clean and pleasant. Good breakfast choices.
Review 26:the location was a bit uncomfortable. Did not sleep well with the local druggies in the area and the trailer park behind the hotel.
Review 27:Loved the hotel itself
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:Two blocks to Max Train and easy access to downtown- hotel drove us directly to car rental at airport for our trip to Eugene. Wonderful experience with helpful and friendly staff
Review 30:All common areas have a strong smell of cigarette smoke. Our room was a "non smoking" room and was acceptable, but when surrounded by the smell of smoke, it still has a way of creeping into your room.
Review 31:Very good breakfast!
Review 32:Nada
Review 33:The staff were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The king bedded room was large, clean, and oh, so comfortable. It included a large flat screen TV, small frig, microwave, coffee, tea, desk, and a reclining chair - all that and it didn't feel crowded. The hotel was quiet, the bed comfortable, so was able to get a good night's sleep. Breakfast was very nice also. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 34:We were told our room would have been very quite because it's far from the highway, but it was extremely noisy anyway
Review 35:Close to airport and not too far from downtown (by car)
Review 36:This is just an excellent place to stay, and I rarely ever give a 10, anywhere. The rooms were very comfortable, the staff very pleasant, even the two drivers of the courtesy van, and the breakfast was much better than the usual courtesy breakfast offered. I was very pleased with this hotel, and would most definately stay again. Congratulations to this hotel.
Review 37:One of the front desk personnel was a bit difficult. When I tried to get simple directions, she insisted on making it very complicated. The location was a bit farther out than we had expected, but it was close to major routes.
Review 38:Our room was freshly and tastefully decorated and the bed was wonderful. The entire facility seems to be in excellent condition and very well maintained.
Review 39:The breakfast was so-so. Plastic instead of proper plates and silverware. Neighborhood wasn't very nice.
Review 40:Nice big and quiet room with microwave and fridge. Baby bed was provided. Clean pool. WiFi worked. Close to the train into town.
Review 41:Liked the convenience to portland airport and the fact we were able to take a taxi as we csme in lste. Also the shuttle whrn we were leaving i will definately be staying at bedt western next time
Review 42:The only issue I had was that we where a group of 7 and we booked 2 rooms at the same time by the same person and they put my daughter and grandkids in a room across the whole hotel from us they couldnt of got them any farther away unless they put them in another hotel I was a little disappointed with this other wise your hotel was very nice in another hotel. Everthing else was wonderful
Review 43:The pool was beautiful, my room was great and breakfast was good
Review 44:Nothing not to like
Review 45:We stayed only one night. Close to airport. Close to Columbia gorge exit. Close to the Max rail to city.free parking if you come with a car. Great room even greater staff. Very helpful with everything you may need. Clean and comfy. Great choice for those coming to Portland for a short stay and dont need to stay downtown
Review 46:Great staff. I had a very quiet room on 2nd floor. REALLY comfortable bed. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Close to the airport. I'd stay again.
Review 47:Room overlooked busy street and was noisy in the mornings.
Review 48:airport shuttle picked us up within 10 minutes of calling. Breakfast was very good. Fresh fruit, eggs , cereals , waffles. Pool area nicely maintained with comfortable seating.
Review 49:would like to see more fruit and pastries at breakfast, but this is a minor issue.
Review 50:Lovely helpful staff, free guest laundry, nice breakfast. Very clean and convenient to airport and Max line.
Review 51:Horrible smell in hallways and room. When I asked for a new room, staff offered air freshner and said no rooms available. Finally got another room.
Review 52:Close to airport and ok price.
Review 53:Bathroom was not clean toilet had stains on it. Night desk clerk very rude unable to offer assistance. Could not get connected to Wi-Fi.
Review 54:Breakfast was good and room size worked out nicely. Quiet room
Review 55:Carpet probably needs a change.
Review 56:Lady at the receptionist was very pleasant despite our very late check-in. After a long flight from Toronto, this was a great way to end the day and start our visit in Portland
Review 57:View isn't the greatest, traffic can be a problem and wifi was pretty much as slow as can be.
Review 58:The free breakfast was really nice and pool was good as well. Close to the airport and not far from expo. Elmer's restaurant within walking distance.
Review 59:We haven't had a bad experience.
Review 60:The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. This hotel is close by to family, so we stay here often.
Review 61:The fitness center was being remodeled and when we stayed there last month it was as well
Review 62:Sara and the rest of the staff are always great. The room is clean and the bed is very comfortable. Quiet place if you like to sleep in. The breakfast was worth 10 bucks a piece so makes for a good value for a 100 dollar room
Review 63:Toilet didn't flush well and the tub in shower drained slowly
Review 64:The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was clean and quiet. Sara at the front desk was awesome! Good value will stay again.
Review 65:We were on second floor. people above I guess had a big dog cause he was dragging a chain and pacing pretty loud it sounded like in our room
Review 66:The facilities were great for the purpose of our visit to Bend. Location was great (less than 10 Minutes) from daughter's home. My husband was sick all most the lenght of time we were there A recliner would of been nice. Staff excellent-housekeeper's good
Review 67:Our room was very clean, but more importantly, it was very nicely furnished, comfortable, and had the feel of a higher end hotel. We had a beautiful view of the pool from our room. The entire hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas and has a lovely atmosphere. The "continental breakfast" was actually a full, hot breakfast with specialty coffees. An amazing value. We will definitely be back.
Review 68:Hallways smell a little funny. Not sure what it was.
Review 69:Convenient location, very clean. Best included breakfast I've see, with a decent selection of protein options. Also, there were plenty of clean breakfast tables.
Review 70:fridge didn't work very well. toilet didm't flush very good. not much of a breakfast like other best western's we have been to.
Review 71:The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and very helpful!
Review 72:Bathroom in our room was under costmetic repair. Hotel was not full so I would have thought they would have closed the room until wall repairs were completed. Also wanted to book a suite with a connecting room a month and a half in advance but even though we wanted to book it in advance they wouldn't guarantee we could have the connecting room and since we're a family of 8, the whole point was to book with the adjoining room.
Review 73:Staff was very knowledgeable in reference to answering questions about the area.
Review 74:All ok.
Review 75:Rooms were large, clean and well presented. The hotel offered a free shuttle service to the Portland Airport. Breakfast was quite good with a variety of choices including waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, coffee and juice. Staff were very accommodating and were helpful with luggage storage and a collection with the shuttle after returning my hire car. Easy access to meal options should you need it.
Review 76:The moment you step inside the hallway you can smell it : smushy smelling in the hallway and inside the room. Whenever other guests using this washroom you can hear the water rushing inside the pipe: loud! Last thing is not enough seating in the breakfast areas. We stay at Best Western many times, this location is not our favors.
Review 77:Friend staffs, good location.
Review 78:Bathrooms are in the middle of renovation and they need it. It is no smoking but the lobby smelled like old smoke but not the room.
Review 79:Clean rooms and it was quiet.
Review 80:Can't think of anything.
Review 81:The helpfulness of the staff when we arrived. Help us with printing boarding passes for our flight the next day. Gave very good driving conditions to airport. Breakfast was very good, and the room was clean and spacious. Would stay again if in Portland.
Review 82:I detected an offensive odor when I entered the lounge. The smell was also very noticeable along the upstairs corridor, something like a sweaty armpit odor or leftover curry smell. Thank goodness, it was okay in the room.
Review 83:Very good breakfast. Very helpful kitchen staff. The bed is very comfortable and the room is very spacious.
Review 84:The view was of a trailer park...but I really didn't mind...I didn't see anything disturbing, just not a pretty view.
Review 85:The room had a fridge and was very comfortable.
Review 86:Had a 1 night stay to attend a Portland Winter Hawks game. Good location off interstate. 15 mins from Moda Center. Hotels in the downtown area started at$200 and up so this was a great option. Nice room, good free breakfast as well. Definately will consider staying there again when we return to Portland in March.
Review 87:Wifi is weak and intermittent in high demand periods. Bathroom could use counter space or convenient shelving for toiletry storage near sink.
Review 88:Great location for walking & shopping, spacious well appointed and comfortable room, small kitchen with all the essentials made this the perfect choice for our 4-day stay to visit relatives and bike in The Portland area. Deep soaking tub in room, sunset view over lake, were unexpected pluses.
Review 89:The tweekers on drugs that we're loitering in front of the building! The staff did mention it and say they were sorry though. It was a little scary at one point, when Saturday the guy ended up running into the building saying he needed to call 911.
Review 90:The front staff were all extremely helpful, and had amazing customer service!
Review 91:There is a strong odor in the lobby and hallway which is a turnoff. This was the same with our last visit in 2013, Skip the powdered rubbery eggs! Yuck!
Review 92:We stayed in a large spacious updated room with a pleasant view of the pool. Great Jacuzzi! Staff was pleasant and helpful. There was easy hwy access to I-205 and only a 10 minute walk to light raiI .Breakfast was good with fresh fruit, decent bagels, yogurt and coffee. We will definitely stay at the Pony Soldier.
Review 93:Bathroom door needs to be replaced. Shower didn't drain well. Pillows too big. Pool should be open 24 hours like the shilo inn.
Review 94:Very clean. Comfortable bed. Very quiet hotel.
Review 95:Having to leave! There is nothing that would deter me from returning to this property, either for an overnight stay having just arrived in Portland or using it as a base for taking day trips to Portland Zoo, Columbia River Gorge, Japanese Gardens, Multnomah Falls etc.
Review 96:The Staff who were friendly, welcoming, and professional. The property was well maintained and spotlessly clean, including the garden and pool areas. The breakfast was more than ample and good quality products utilised. Courtesy transport to airport and local areas. Situated at an excellent junction for easy access to all areas of Portland and Oregon, being a short hop over a bridge from Washington State. The price is very competitive.
Review 97:Strong smell of chlorine bleach upon entering the room.
Review 98:Location was easy to find, pool was wonderful and they allowed us to stay in past closing time, bed was very comfortable, complimentary breakfast was terrific
Review 99:Carpet in room was really dirty, someone left food in the refrigerator, which means it was not cleaned. Breakfast was 6am to 10am, ran out every morning by 7am.
Review 100:Location, friendly staff. Plenty of towels
Review 101:Nothing. All positive.
Review 102:The application of the Staff could not have been better. Very attentive, approachable, friendly and professional at all times. This was not just the Front Desk Staff but the Breakfast lady, the Shuttle Drivers also. I would certainly recommend this facility for anyone who had just arrived in Portland via PDX or was about to depart.
Review 103:The area around the hotel was a little run down and noisy.
Review 104:The rooms were great, the free breakfast was great, the pool was great and the staff was excellent.
Review 105:Bed comfort
Review 106:We had a very large & comfy king room which was safe, quiet, and centrally located. Bed was the least nice part of the stay. Too hard and bouncy for me. Staff could NOT have been any friendlier or more helpful! Close to public transit to get downtown.
Review 107:Water temperature in the swimming pool could be a few degrees warmer. Only a few brave souls were able to enjoy it.
Review 108:Exceptional reception desk service- they treat everybody as VIP guests. We love their breakfast, as well as the dining area- beautiful, clean, tables with little roses on each of them. Our room was facing the swimming pool, quiet, clean. We really loved the balcony in our room. Very comfortable bed.
Review 109:Older hotel, smelled like bad, bad body stinky Oder. Even thou this is a older hotel, I don't think that it should have stunk so bad.
Review 110:Great location
Review 111:The price quoted did not include leaving our car and getting a shuttleto the airport, so we had to pay a lot extra. Also, nothing available toeat at 5:00 A.M.
Review 112:The room and amenities were very nice, and we got an early wake-up call.
Review 113:-Noise from the traffic -coffee maker electric cord was short had to put it on the floor.
Review 114:-reception staff were polite, prompt in their service, helpful. -business center is free to use -reasonable breakfast is free with accommodation -room was good size for 1 but no a couple -hotel shutter to and fro airport is free, just let hotel staff know. Most happy to tip the drivers. -Overall there are plenty of likes and a few dislikes
Review 115:Location. Perfect for an predawn trip to the airport but not exactly where you'd want to stay for a leisure trip to PDX. Though I guess if you rent a car....
Review 116:Nice clean place, big room, fun pool/hot tub outdoor area. There was even a small gym but I didn't have time. A perfect little mix of fruit yogurt and various grains/muffins for complimentary breakfast. Free shuttle to the airport, right on time for my early flight! Amazing value, lovely staff.
Review 117:They had just cleaned the bathroom, which we appreciate, but had used bleach and the smell never completely left. Seems like they could disinfect the bathroom with a more ec0-friendly product.
Review 118:The staff let us check in early, came and got us at the rental car place and took us to the airport. Plenty of space in room and nice bathroom.
Review 119:The ice was hard to find.
Review 120:I was flying out early the next morning and the hotel was close to the airport. It was reasonably priced. I picked it because it had a shuttle to the airport. The person who drove the shuttle was very friendly and helpful.
Review 121:Room looked over a trailer park with junk
Review 122:Convenient to car rental (Thrifty) and to the rail into Portland which eliminated traffic problems if we had driven Good breakfast included Pool for cooling off in intense heat Friendly helpful staff
Review 123:The in-room air conditioning is noisy. Location is fine for the airport but it takes a good 30 min to get downtown by train.
Review 124:Staff were wonderful, extremely accommodating and helpful when I needed medical assistance on the last day of my stay. The room was very comfortable and clean.
Review 125:My only suggestion is for the property to invest in some decent toilet paper and tissues. I mean, really, the paper was incredibly cheap ! Could upgrade for pennies a day.
Review 126:The location for perfect for our purposes because our son and grandson live less than two miles from the property. The staff...from the desk clerks to the cleaning maids...were very friendly and helpful. Property was always clean and quiet, and there is a very nice courtyard with a pool and hot tub. All in all, a wonderful stay.
Review 127:The bathroom walls seemed under some renovation process. The position of the TV was weird, could watch only if seated in the armchair
Review 128:Different breakfast every day. Comfortable large bed. Proximity to Elmer's which offers excellent food.
Review 129:It took 30 minutes and two calls to get picked up at the airport. However, they were sold out for the night, which could have been part of the reason. Transportation to the airport was prompt.
Review 130:Close to the airport. Complimentary airport shuttle. Breakfast included. Staff was friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 131:traffic noise outside
Review 132:pleasant decor, very helpful staff went beyond just answering questions - made maps, etc, nice pool, well maintained all around, good breakfast
Review 133:There was nothing to dislike!
Review 134:Convenient to the airport- with shuttle service so we could drop off the car the evening before an early flight- Helpful friendly staff Nice room- with good airconditioning during a heat wave Good breakfast Very good value for the price
Review 135:No in-room safe. Internet connection was severely underprovisioned despite recent upgrades and hence unusable at peak times.
Review 136:Convenient to the airport but far enough away to avoid aircraft noise. Staff seemed friendly and caring. Very cheap rates. Microwave and small fridge in the room. Reasonable breakfast. Fitness room has an ancient multi-station machine, two benches, light dumbbells, a stepper, and a (non-functional at the time) exercise bike.
Review 137:Convenient to airport; quick trip to NE locations where we were primarily visiting. Breakfast was very good. All the staff were friendly and helpful and cheerful.
Review 138:Nothing. Will stay here once more before we leave Portland.
Review 139:Near airport and Max and Enterprise. Room was clean, bed was very comfortable, breakfast was good. Brakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles, yogurt and fruit. Cold cereal and pastries.
Review 140:Location.
