Reviews for Gurney's Montauk

Review 1:Prices went substantially higher. I visit Gurney's ONLY in the off season. I could never afford the in-season prices. I am sure the quality of the food is great but the restaurant has become priced more like a higher end eatery in Manhattan.

Review 2:Location and use of swimming pool

Review 3:We were upgraded to a beach view room which was very much appreciated and the Hotel (Maureen) took care of a small package for me, again which was much appreciated.

Review 4:The room was a disaster. The toilet was broken. The air conditioner made loud noises the sink was leaking. The staff was rude at the bar. Not accommodating and had to deal with attitude. The bar area was overcrowded with people who clearly were not guests of the hotel.

Review 5:The beach is beautiful

Review 6:Plastic glasses in the evening around the fire pit which was a lot of stairs up from the beach, had it been adjacent I would've understood. No lift!

Review 7:Great location, well appointed hotel, Scarpetta Beach restaurant was fabulous. Staff where very good.

Review 8:They allow people to smoke on balconies and the smell goes into the rooms.

Review 9:Lena, at the front desk is wonderful. Great location, great food, Newer renovated rooms are very nice

Review 10:it is a little pricey. the day beds and "club" atmosphere take away from the tranquility since you have to pay $1500 per day to use.

Review 11:location was perfect. beach is amazing.

Review 12:None!

Review 13:Absolutely everything was amazing from the staff to the location to the room to the restaurants to the beach to the spa facilities! Everything was perfect!

Review 14:I loved my Swedish massage, but the spa massage "rooms" were not legitimate rooms. They were not separated by actual drywall. The mattress was not comfortable.

Review 15:The view is unbeatable. The spa is really nice too.

Review 16:Unfortunately upon our arrival the receptionist advised us that she was upgrading us to a better room. That's nice, but we were upgraded to a room I was already getting which said on my itinerary King Ocean Front. I do understand there is another section that has been remodeled which I would of considered to be an upgrade. What the receptionist nor Gurney's did not advise of was the work being done during our visit. None of the staff even acknowledged that the work was being done which resulted in closed off areas outside and inside, (especially parking near our room) the restaurant had minimal options, and construction noise was constant. Gurney's did offer a free continental breakfast because they're bakery was also being remodeled. I get they need to upgrade they're facilities and it's great to see them put money back into such a beautiful place. We were just a little disappointed after paying $400 a night and feeling like we needed to go elsewhere off premises to enjoy ourselves. Valet was a complete disaster most of the time no one was there and I could see our car parked while waiting for the attendant. We were forced to use the valet due to closed off areas in the parking lot especially near our room. All and all its a beautiful place my wife and I like to come before the heavy crowds of the summer and after just before the harshness of winter. Montauk is a great area and Gurney's is a staple to us. I just wish we could of had a better experience.

Review 17:Beautiful views, from the ocean front room we stayed in. The king bed was comfortable, and the spa facilities were very nice as well.

Review 18:The advertisement of the rooms online did not depict the actual room received. We didn't find much value for the price we paid.

Review 19:Being able to stay at a resort by the ocean

Review 20:I disliked that management didn't notify guests that construction was going on. The first evening we had drinks at the bar and all we heard was hammering and drilling!!! Are you kidding!!! This was supposed to be a relaxing setting!!! I would have cancelled my reservation had I known about all the noise!! Very unpleasant and that leads me to believe that management does not care about their guests!!!!

Review 21:I liked the breakfast and the massage I received. My daughter and I had dinner at the Seawater Grille. Food was good but small menu. Four things on the menu were unavailable!!!!

Review 22:Need more food and beverage options. Food quite expensive, but portions are big (good for sharing). They charged 10 dollars for a large bottle of water!!

Review 23:Great location. My kids loved the pool and the beach. It's good to have a car so you can drive to get snacks, and beverages.

Review 24:Only disappointment was that they are still undergoing renovations

Review 25:The staff were amazing From Janet at the front desk to Molly the hostess at the reastaurant. They both went the extra mile for us. The staff at the spa were also very accommodating

Review 26:The service was terrible from room service taking 3 hours only to not have the correct order to the person bringing the food tracking snow in your room and not closing the door completely. I had higher expectations.

Review 27:The place is nice. Our room was right on the beach with a spectacular view.

Review 28:The tea choices in the dining room were mostly green and herbal - no strong black teas like Irish breakfast or English tea, and no Earl Grey. At the breakfast buffet the pastry items were stale and the bun that was served with the lobster roll was lacking flavor and very dry.

Review 29:The location the seawater spa and the dining room dinner menu were all very good. The staff was very accommodating.

Review 30:Not many food options on site. What there was was pretty awful and over priced. The place was very disorganized. They were under renovation but even so it was extreme. (I.e. No one could find another postcard like the one found on the room. A description of spa services was not readily available.)

Review 31:Location and spa are exceptional.

Review 32:Head waiter at breakfast not friendly. Spa disapointing. Only showers and locker area are nice. Sauna small, dark, old. "Quietroom" only two Loungers, bad smell. Pool windows covered with damp so you couldn't see the ocean.

Review 33:We got an upgrade to oceanfrontview from oceanview. Exzellent room. You can see the ocean from your bed. Kitchenette, private terrasse. Wonderful!

Review 34:I thought the service at the restaurant was not up to standards every time we asked for more milk for the coffee of half and half it was as if the waiter disappeared and would come back ten minutes later and by then the coffee was cold. The restaurant wasn't even busy. Also I think the lobby and main areas could use more of a face lift it looks dated and a little run down.

Review 35:I thought the employee's were very nice and professional. The new rooms were very nice, the balcony's were terrific you could really appreciate the location.

Review 36:There are no microwaves in the rooms and the ice machine outside of our building didn't work. The phones in the room also appeared to not be working properly, we tried using them to call the front desk several times and while they would answer, they were unable to hear us on the other end.

Review 37:We enjoyed the view of the ocean and the outdoor patio.

Review 38:I've travelled the world and Gurney's remains my favorite hotel. The service, rooms, decor, and spa are amazing. Spa facilities are free for guests and the sea water pool overlooking the ocean, Roman baths, steam room and sauna are incredible. They made my husband's 40th bday extra special. One night at Gurney's and I feel like I've been on vacation a week - and in the quiet, off season it's even better!

Review 39:Spa receptionist was horrible. I have 25 employees working for me. She would never represent my company. First no massage available, then no compassion or apology, just a "too bad" attitude. We wont be back. I can get past the no massage available. But the I dont care attitude is unacceptable. My name is Robert and I probably wont be back....

Review 40:Front desk manager, restaurant staff and Bell staff all outstanding. Our intial interactions where very positive, we were heading toward many future visits!

Review 41:Rooms were supposedly renovated, but were not completely finished. Some of the staff was excellent whiles others were not accommodating. For the money and the reputation of gurneys we were very disappointed

Review 42:Nice view from rooms. Located close to the main town

Review 43:We had to walk through a wedding or other celebration that was taking place leaving our room to go to the parking lot, spa, gym, and pool. A few staff members misinformed us when we asked about buffet details or some other events that were going on. This happened more than once. Some staff members were not too friendly. The outdoor stairway access to get to our room with luggage was not great. Very steep to carry luggage and not safe for small kids, especially at night.

Review 44:Very comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, blankets, etc.. Nice quality towels & robes. Outdoor lounge set very comfortable. Outdoor private personal terrace so nice. Beautiful oceanfront view. All the amenities you could need in a room to accommodate our family.

Review 45:I was excited because of the SPA but I didnt find it amazing. The swimming pool was far too cold and the jacuzzi was out of service, very frustrating!

Review 46:The location The view The terraces

Review 47:We had to move rooms after two of my three days! This was not made known at the time I booked the room. Then, they said we could move at our leisure, but made us get out by 11am! This is due to the fact that you are renting timeshares. Icing on cake was the front desk manager said she would provide me with a credit, but, of course, never followed thru or called me to close out our discussion. Typical of poor customer service. Don't stay there.

Review 48:Rooms are niece nought, although dated and small.

Review 49:Room could be a little more updated for the price. Bathroom was small and the shower curtain was ridiculous! The chicken parm dinner at the Seawater Grill was just a HUGE piece of meat - no sides. I never saw a chicken so large. It was odd. Would not re-order that.

Review 50:Location was amazing Staff was very friendly

Review 51:We live on the South Shore and close to the beach, Gurneys beach is amazing but we are not allowed to move our chairs so we can see the water? The director tells us we do not have enough people to move the chairs back at night so we have to keep them up near the resort. To come all the way out east and not be able to see the water in front of us is not worth the price. When we arrived the room was not ready and the desk clerk did not apologize she just said; I don't know what to tell you we are busy, you have no idea whats going on here. No offer of a drink until it is ready. I asked her if I could give her my cell number so she could call us when it was ready because we came back twice and it was not ready. Very disappointed in some of the service we received. We are charged for everything

Review 52:I like the new rooms. I love the terrace facing the water. I love the gym facilities. I love the convenience of restaurants in the resort.

Review 53:The feel of the resort has changed for the worse since the new ownership took control. In an attempt to make the facility more "hip" and profitable, they have turned a once rustic, family friendly , scenic vacation spot into a trendy "night club on the water ". It feels like a Kardashian episode. So sad.

Review 54:The spa is still excellent.,Massage therapists estheticians, etc are the best that I've ever experienced. The location is beautiful. I highly recommend the spa for a day trip.

Review 55:The place is really rundown. The bathroom is terrible, so small and I hate shower curtains!!! The place is slowly renovating some areas but they should just shut it down and do a complete renovation. 5 star prices for a 3 star (I'm being kind) hotel.

Review 56:We loved the location and the view!

Review 57:Hotel was very nice, but there is a 20% resort fee- obviously the use of the facilities should be included with your hotel stay

Review 58:Salt water pool was great!

Review 59:The facilities themselves are not up to par. Dated and worn. The service in the rooms was extremely slow and housekeeping were not aware of how many people were in a room. We had three people with only two beds and the room was only serviced for two. Although we were paying over $1000 per night we had to pay $25 each for exercise classes. The concierge was not helpful and not a great ambassador for he place. It was apparent that the resort cannot make up its mind if its still a time share or a Hotel I don't think the staff are adequately trained to service a high paying guest.

Review 60:The setting and the friendliness of the staff was wonderful. The food was very good for breakfast and dinner. The beach bar was friendly and good.

Review 61:Our suite AC unit in the bedroom was so loud that we feared it might explode. Woke us up multipal times in the night. It was over priced considering we stayed in the older part .

Review 62:The location is great, right on the beach. Our stay was good considering the resort is undergoing a major renovation. The pool and spa are really nice. The food was good. The baked goods are AWSOME .

Review 63:the new bedrooms do not have mirrors. As a women I was unable to view my outfits when getting dressed. I was in the newer complex. No mirror in the entire suite.

Review 64:I enjoyed the relaxing location, gorgeous views, music on the beach, cleanness, staff, room service, room decor, and gym facilities/classes

Review 65:Slow service in restaurants

Review 66:Pool, Roman bath, food

Review 67:Beautiful setting. Great pool and spa. Nice to have such a vacation spot relatively nearby.

Review 68:NOTHING :)

Review 69:ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL-- GREAT STAFF-LOVE JUAN (BARTENDER)

Review 70:Only half the rooms are renovated - If you are in an old room, it is not as good.

Review 71:a little pricey

Review 72:place was amazing and beautiful. highly reccomend

Review 73:Great place-- love it here

Review 74:Poor in and out on car management -

Review 75:Gorgeous ocean views

Review 76:Amazing beachfront location, spectacular spa, nice restaurant facilities

Review 77:under construction during stay, but still charged full price for stay

Review 78:Definitely a great location, room overlooked the ocean!

Review 79:No notice of all the construction work.

Review 80:Spa, views, and staff

Review 81:Construction noise at 7:00am, Hotel a mess from construction and room smelled

Review 82:Beach is Awesome

Review 83:restricted pool hours. limited food options.

Review 84:view, staff, rooms..Chris the lifeguard was amazing.

Review 85:Not a thing

Review 86:Everything. Beautiful and comfortable

Review 87:check in at 4 Pm -facilities fee good for one day

Review 88:views, comfort, dining, staff, food

Review 89:Spend Valentines weejend. Couldn't have been more pleased. Spa services amazing and valentine dinner superb.

Review 90:The food is OK.

Review 91:The spa is great.

Review 92:Bed was too soft Needs more updating / refreshing of finishes especially in the rooms No tea bags

Review 93:Views and location

Review 94:Shower tile broken

Review 95:View

Review 96:Very basic, ho-hum decor.

Review 97:The ocean, the peaceful setting, relaxing atmosphere, spa

Review 98:A little on the pricey side, eg., rooms need some renovation.

Review 99:Location and food.

Review 100:Room nothing special

Review 101:Location on hand beach can't be beat

Review 102:Not very high standard

Review 103:Location

Review 104:Found it to be overcrowded. They ran out of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Also, not kid friendly.

Review 105:Beautiful location

Review 106:Old shower

Review 107:There were two things that I did not like. The shower curtain blowing on you made a very unpleasant shower. The second thing that was disappointing was the service and presentation of the food in the restaurant. On Wednesday evening, June 18, at around 7:00 we were the only table in the restaurant and there were a few tables outside. I was disappointed with the presentation of the branzino dish as I am used to a far better looking plate. Also was missing the olive oil and herbs. The service was slow and I was not happy when we finally had to ask where our waiter was so we could pay the check. I realize we stayed during a slow week, just before the summer season gets busy, however I would hate to be there when it actually is busy. The service at the beach eating area for lunch was much better. The prices overall are very high and I don't mind paying if the service and food is good. Need to make some improvements or you can lose your customers at dinner.

Review 108:The service on the beach was great, especially Maria B. The massage was also the best ever. The view from our balcony was fantastic. The resort was very clean and the staff was friendly and professional.

Review 109:Overpriced Run down for the money Resort fee (wifi, "complementary" shuttle, the beach?!?) Requested early check-in-our room wasn't ready until 4:30pm

Review 110:Location on the beach

Review 111:Rooms were old and the website shows updated rooms. Big disappointment for the price paid. The coffee area was slow and limited supplies. There are only so many bagels and when they run out you are out of luck.

Review 112:I liked the view from the ocean view room. Food at the restaurant was also very good.

Review 113:Unfortunately the level of cleanliness in the room was sub standard, some of the linen on arrival had clearly been used previously and was dirty. The shower was also difficult to use as the shower curtain either stuck to you while you showered or if you place the curtain outside the bath, the entire bathroom flooded.

Review 114:Location, staff were very friendly and helpful, restaurant food was excellent especially the Mothers Day buffet, we loved the sun deck, gym facilities and courtesy shuttle

Review 115:I understand that miscommunication can happen regarding notice of vacancy of each room but I feel that it's just right and ethical to knock before opening every door you enter for variety of reasons. We just arrived and was in bed resting and heard our door opened by the security. My husband sort it out and they were very apologetic. But overall, no regrets in choosing this place.

Review 116:Since we came mid April, not a lot a people around, so we enjoyed the quite cold sunny breeze by the beach. No problem with parking, and close to everything. The area is beautiful and relaxing with the ocean view. Friendly staff and good food. We enjoyed our long weekend stay here. We don't mind coming back in this place.

Review 117:I ate brunch at 10:30 in the restaurant passed the bakery. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. Two hours later had food poisoning. Have been sick for two days.

Review 118:We had a couples massage. My massage was ok, could have been better. I informed about my lower back and leg needing more attention to no avail. My girlfriend enjoyed her massage she had Anna.

Review 119:before arrival it was never made known that the pool was closed. access to a small off site pool didn't make up for the letdown. but thanks anyway. just let me know beforehand next time so i can have all the information. thanks.

Review 120:the beach is beautiful.

Review 121:HORRIBLE FOOD... would never dine there again.:( The cleaning staff knocks on your door at 9am then never shows up again and had to request roomservice at 4pm.

Review 122:Awesome SPA & exercise facility The front service was very helpful and gave courtesy lifts to town. You cannot beat the waterview!:)

Review 123:The exterior is not beautiful architecturally, very rambling and piecemeal, with a large parking lot between the beach units and the higher units. Offseason, the decks were not tended, as in cigarette butts around. Had a fire pit going but otherwise not too appealing. There are many, many steps to climb to and from the beach.

Review 124:The panoramic ocean view is wonderful, the rooms are a bit dated but very quiet and comfortable. The food was seafood with an Italian vibe and very good. Waitstaff efficient and nice. Great breakfast. The saltwater pool is dimly lit on a cloudy day, but the pool/spa area generally well run with nice staff. Entire staff very nice.

Review 125:lost electricity in room but they came and fixed it, leaking ceilings in shower and roman bath, plug in bathtub didn't work, duct tape on windows in breakfast dining room,

Review 126:beautiful views very good service nice room

Review 127:A few of the staff not well trained and not too friendly. Food in restaurant average quality at lunch and dinner, sub-standard at breakfast (buffet). We were told by a waitress there was no a la carte breakfast which, apparently, is not true.

Review 128:Liked the location, the spa with great pool sauna, etc. and most of the staff's friendliness and accommodating attitude. The room was spacious, quiet and very clean. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 129:Loved our room over the beach, with the sound of the surf and even a seagull perching on balcony railing. Off-season is the best! Despite having a pretty skeletal staff working, we received very good service.

Review 130:your change of breakfast hours (as per your ad in the room) due to a "family affair"; so said the butler when we appeared in the café. this shows a poor respect for your hosts (US). Sorry, it had to be said. Every thing else was perfect.

Review 131:view facilities room

Review 132:Cold shower in spa: it wasn't working Tues afternoon, and I couldn't wait for it to get fixed. Also, had to move from my poolside lounge as maintenance person needed to fix something in ceiling: made noise and dust.

Review 133:Beautiful nature, spa staff, pool & roman bath wonderful, appreciate robe & sandals

Review 134:Too many steps. Weather was so so. Staff was good but not always tooconcerned with our needs. We checked in. No key was given until askedfor. They ask to help wth bags after our struggle.

Review 135:Peace and quite. You could get away and relax. The small bar had adecent staff. The bartender was great.

Review 136:Price for value. Plumbing in rooms not functioning in proper manor, lingering cigarette oder, mattress in poor shape.

Review 137:Food was outstanding. Staff was much friendlier that other nearby establiments

Review 138:-Bad value for money: 1) The rooms are on average for a 3stars hotel butthe bathroom is very small, the carpet is smelly, and many otherrenovations are needed; what they call “kitchenette” is a shelf near tothe entrance, equipped simply with a sink, a minifridge and an electrictea-coffee maker. 2) Receptionists are not allowed (or unable?) to dothe most common of their duties (such as leave a note to their managersor colleagues, or put the clients in the right booked room, or change aroom and arrange it quickly, or organize a baggage pick-up); theyreplied to my emails only after my insistence; the other members of thestaff are nice, with few exception, but clearly disorganized. 3) Thequality of the breakfast is poor: the food is good but you have fewchoices (I.E. just plain homemade yoghurt, no ham or other charcuteries, nor vegetables; croissants and pastries are in miniature and the glassesfor the juices (dispensed by a machine) can contain just a sip…) -The“20% resort fee” for standard services like beach chairs and towels, orthe use of the swimming pool, is simply outrageous. Moreover, theyindicate in the booking.com website that breakfast and dinners areincluded in the room rate, but this is a pure fraud! Once in the hotel, you will realize that you have just a credit for your meals, and thatyou have to pay more or less a third of it, plus tips. I tried toexplain the situation several times to the people at the front desk, butthey were unable to solve the problem –sometime even to try tounderstand what was the point- , and the manager never call me back; Ihave submitted a claim. -Far from the city center

Review 139:-Great setting and view from the Oceanfront rooms, amazing spa, nicebakery, convenient shuttle service to the train station.
