Reviews for Hotel Seward
Review 1:The restaurant was not open at night as advertised and the gym access policy was not accurately advertised.
Review 2:Very personnel staff with a unique building.
Review 3:Located near a couple of bars; their patrons were quite loud at night. Price a bit high.
Review 4:The decor...the rooms were nicely presented. The lobby, although very small, was so Alaska. Located near shopping, park, and acquarium.
Review 5:Had to lug suitcases down stairs, only one flight. Better selection of teas would have been nice.
Review 6:Unique and eccentric decor, appropriate to locale... Lots of stuffed animals. Great location and scenery...mountains and ocean. Very nice breakfast included with our plan.
Review 7:Dealt with rude staff twice. Dinner wasn't offered on the property even though it was advertised on practically every door in the building, there was someone's contact on our bathroom floor, the site stated a mountain or water view of which we got neither even though I requested it.
Review 8:Close to the sea life center, fuzzy blankets were a touch of home on the beds
Review 9:Initially in the historic wing which looks run down, view of an alley and the wall of the hotel. Right next to the public bathroom because some rooms don't have one. Had to "upgrade" to more modern wing and still a view of the alley with trash in it. 150 a night way too much for this hotel.
Review 10:Staff was helpful with changing rooms.
Review 11:Room had a bathroom that was insecure from the next room. Tiny room with no place to store anything. Should have requested a room on the newer section. No elevator.
Review 12:The internet was very slow and often impossible to use at all. As I was in Seward on business this was an important deficit. I just gave up using it!
Review 13:The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 14:No hair dryer in the room. I feel this is necessary, especially considering this hotel is in Alaska, and the town is known for it's day cruises and sea kayaking. If you have to do one of those things with wet hair, it can actually be dangerous depending on the weather conditions. The front desk had one I could borrow, but I still think this should be a standard feature in every room, especially at a $150/night price point.
Review 15:It was right in the center of Seward, the little town. Very easy to walk around. It was too far to walk with luggage from the train station or to the ship terminal.
Review 16:Room was old, shabby, dated, no A/C and didn't want to open window because it was first floor and backed up to parking lot and pubs.
Review 17:Good location
Review 18:Chilly staff. Restaurant not open for dinner as advertised. Logjam in the lobby at checkout. Pretty pricey for kind of a bare bones place.
Review 19:Nice location.
Review 20:Restaurant service is a bit slow (plan ahead) but the staff are very accommodating and make it a pleasant experience.
Review 21:Comfortable, clean hotel with friendly staff. Good location with lots of nearby restaurants and shops, close to parks and not far from the small boat harbor (nice walk, if you're not in a hurry; or less than 5 minutes by taxi/car).
Review 22:Check-in, seem like we were putting the girls out and they seemed annoyed when asked questions. Wanted toturn around and leave
Review 23:Location was good, bed was very comfortable, morning staff was great
Review 24:Michael was efficient from the moment I booked and Mary ensured a very personalised service. The room was quaint and well appointed. And Mary's collection of artefacts in the lobby area was amazing. All in all a great place to start our onshore holiday in Alaska
Review 25:The doors were old and "stuck" -- we had to make a lot of noise to get into our room; the shower had a weird nob on it and I couldn't figure out how to turn it on and off; and finally, smokers hung around the outside of the doors and you had to walk through them to get inside. Very bad.
Review 26:The location was great; and there was no charge to park.
Review 27:Fun, quirky old hotel in downtown Seward. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Totally enjoyed our stay of one night and would return if ever back in Alaska. Good restaurant and bar in the hotel and conveniently near, walking distance, to other restaurants and shopping.
Review 28:Shower head water pressure weak; weather was warm for Alaska and it was hard to cool the room. Trees blocked view of bay from "best" room in hotel with a view.
Review 29:Great location in downtown Seward; friendly staff.
Review 30:Hated the stuffed animals in the lobby. Terrible service in the restaurant. Overpriced. We awoke to find painters with scaffolds covering our view with no previous notice.
Review 31:Great central location. Good view from our windows when they weren't painting.
Review 32:Bed covers and shams etc. were very worn and needs replacing.
Review 33:The staff were superb-the regular shuttle driver is one hard working guy. Nothing was an imposition to him. So helpful. Liked the location in the center of town.
Review 34:Refrigerator was not on when we arrived. We plugged it in & failed to realize it was freezing our drinks. They burst!
Review 35:The location was near several places to eat. A cool breeze was blowing the two days we were there. Windows open & fresh air! Great food at the restaurant in the hotel!
Review 36:Parking is terrible, its extremely expensive for what you get, staff was rude and abrupt (both to me and as I observed to other customers.) They seemed to have no tolerance for non English speaking guests, which is a shame in a tourist town. They also charge you for having children in your room. We live in Anchorage, but would rather tent camp than visit this hotel again.
Review 37:Not much to say positive. Room was clean. It was nice to have a microwave and fridge in the room.
Review 38:The kids wanted a pool. Alas, none of the hotels we found had pools. But this one did have an excercise gym that was really nice.
Review 39:This is a really nice hotel. It is in a great location, and the ambiance is very nice. The rooms are clean, the beds are really comfortable, and the hotel itself is very interesting. Highly recommend it. Yes, you can stay in the holiday inn express if you want, but for the real Alaska experience, try this. My niece, who regularly stays in hiltons, told me that this was the nicest hotel she ever stayed in.
Review 40:It was hot. There is no ac, and we were there on an unseasonably hot week. While they did provide us with a fan, our room was closely facing a another building, so there was no breeze coming in the window, along with no view. When I booked it stated views of mountains, instead I got the side of an old building. Expensive for a hot room and no breakfast.
Review 41:Friendly staff, laundry facilities, great location.
Review 42:Nothing really negative, except the themed side dining rooms. Eggs were ok but cooked a little too firm for me.
Review 43:My sister and I really liked the Hotel Seward. Nicely done old school decor with no modern flair, except there is an elevator. Staff is very nice and helpful.
Review 44:Decor is eclectic but comfy with stuffed animal mounts in the lobby/sitting area and rooms decorated in Victorian flair. Front desk staff friendly and jokey. Loved the framed photos and postcards throughout that detailed the history of the hotel and Seward. Would definitely stay again!
Review 45:We were given a room on the bottom floor with windows opening on the parking lot side. Because it was a warm day, we needed the windows open. Smokers gather on this side of the building and were smoking right outside our window. We are non smokers and prefer not to be surrounded by cigarette smoke! The ladies at the front desk were so kind and moved us to another room that was not in the path of cigarette smoke.
Review 46:Absolutely no complaints. Loved the room, the bed, the shower, everything. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone. Loved Seward too!!!
Review 47:All the lodging in Seward is dreadfully expensive.
Review 48:Located downtown Seward near the Sea Life Center and many shops and restaurants. An easy mile walk from the marina area. Great restaurant in the hotel. Charming. An old hotel aging gracefully. Shuttled us to and from the train station.
Review 49:Friendly staff. Interesting decor. Close to free shuttle to go anywhere. Clean. Laundry available. Shops and other restaurants close by. Their restaurant had good selection on offer.
Review 50:The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The rooms were spacious and we had a great view of the water. The beds were very comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the little restaurant had decent food. We would stay here again.
Review 51:It's the only descent hotel in town so I guess it was nice. Otherwise I'm neutral about it. Would I come back? depends if there is no better option. It's a hotel I picked by default.
Review 52:The room was too warm and there isn't any air conditioning. Odd thing to complain about in Alaska but I needed to keep windows open all night.
Review 53:This was a very warm and comfortable hotel with interesting wild life preserved throughout the hotel. Great bar and restaurant. Right across from Resurrection Bay in a quaint old part of town.
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:We didn't understand the way to book a room with a pet so when we arrived, we were reassigned to a pet-friendly room. It was totally our mistake but they were so gracious about it. I also had a new "Notebook" that I didn't know how to operate. The hotel clerks helped me numerous times and never seemed to mind. Also, the entire hotel is so cozy and beautiful - it matches the staff.
Review 56:I wish they had ME tv. That is Memorable Entertainment television. We have the same cable company as the hotel but they offer fewer channels. ME is my favorite. Oldies from the 60's -80's.
Review 57:We had a beautiful view of the bay. The towels and sheets were very nice and soft. I love that they leave a towel sculpture and chocolates on the bed. If they know it is a special occasion, they also leave sparkling cider.
Review 58:The sink by the bathroom did not work nor did the coffee machine in our room.
Review 59:The beds were very comfortable along with the pillows. The restaurant was great and the chef came out to make sure everything was cooked to our liking. Just a little pricey on the drinks but the food was well priced for the quality. Very clean and the feel of home away from home.
Review 60:Bathroom sink was clogged: need for drain repair.
Review 61:Very spacious room; tastefully decorated, very clean and well arranged. The room also had a wonderful small refrigerator. Terrific old lobby with lots of old photos of Alaska and large stuffed bears.
Review 62:I've been staying in a lot of chain hotels lately. They've been comfortable, friendly staff, etc. So I had fairly generic expectations. But Hotel Seward was so wonderful, it stood out as a place I will always remember staying, and somewhere I hope to return soon. It was quirky, cozy and charming. The rooms were lovely, and the beds extremely comfortable. We did have third floor rooms with large windows, so I can only speak for these, but they were fantastic. And the best thing was the customer service. The owner, Mary, clearly put her heart into this place, and cared about the experience of people staying there. I recommend the hotel wholeheartedly!
Review 63:We really didn't the restaurant should have been called that. Unless we were lost, the small "dining rooms" are former hotel rooms, complete with old sinks!
Review 64:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel lobby is hilarious! The decor is very "Alaskan" and visitors enjoy exploring what it has to offer. Overall, our experience was wonderful!
Review 65:Thought price was high for the standard of hotel, but this is Alaska in the summertime.
Review 66:Lobby had a lot of character, location was in historic downtown, near sea life center
Review 67:It was pricier than the other places that we stayed on our Alaskan vacation.
Review 68:The lobby was an exceptional treat to experience. We stayed in the room with a king bed and it was high class along with shower robes in the room.
Review 69:This hIstoric hotel that is very comfortable and just steps from the Sealife Center, restaurants and shops. The small restaurant needs expanding, but it served our needs for quite a few meals. Terrific staff! The washer and dryer for guests was very appreciated!
Review 70:The curtains were a little bit difficult to use to close off the long Alaskan day from our room.
Review 71:The room was very big and nicely appointed. It was located in Old Seward with an easy walk to the coast, the Alaska SeaLife Center and restaurants. It was far enough away from the boat docks that it was quiet. The view from our many windows was beautiful.
Review 72:*Wonderfully responsive staff *Crab omelet for breakfast *BEST location in downtown
Review 73:Mary Kulstad is my "go to gal" at this property! Ask for the Alaskan side (rather than Historic for larger updated rooms...expensive but comfortable! We will be back!
Review 74:The hotel staff were very complacent and did not take on board the seriousness of complaints. Housekeeping was quite poor.
Review 75:Location was good close to sea life centre, and restaurant.
Review 76:Very small dining area. My room over looked the alley behind the hotel.
Review 77:I like like loved the historical vibe of the hotel.
Review 78:It would have been nice to have had a reply to our request for a fold away bed
Review 79:The room was quaint and cozy. We had a pretty view from our room.
Review 80:Cold water running through the shower fauset & smelly hall ways.
Review 81:The beds were very comfortable!
Review 82:The walls are very thin and it was quite noisy.
Review 83:Easy walking distance to most of downtown Seward. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 84:The location is wonderful. A couple blocks walk to the water and restaurants. The beds were comfortable which is a must when traveling. Great hotel.
Review 85:Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff
Review 86:pillows
Review 87:Wonderful staff! Very good breakfast.

Review 96:Saturday night drinkers made it difficult to fall asleep. Not sure what the hotel could do about it.
Review 97:Awesome staff!!
Review 98:Great Hotel Seward is the place to stayLocation. But the beds were amazingly comfortable
Review 99:Rooms are rather small

Review 103:Great turn of the century hotel. Easy walk to everything downtown.
Review 104:Bed
Review 105:Location
Review 106:Wifi was painfully slow.
Review 107:great location, free parking.
Review 108:On site lounge. Comfortable rooms. Convenient location to resturants. Open for breakfast at 5:30am.
Review 109:Very nice hotel with excellent staff
Review 110:The fact that it is not a chain motel. Way more history and character and very quiet for sleeping.
Review 111:Stay away from the old wing of the hotel they should change policy for this wing and make it much more affordable for young backpackers
Review 112:Wi-fi speed was terrible and staff was not very friendly and did not address our maintenance issue during our stay.
Review 113:Room comfort and easy parking.
