Reviews for Lamp Liter Inn
Review 1:No breakfast. Very-very-very old sink that is actually peeling off. Really dirty (fire the maid!) - black hair all over the sink. We literally could not manage to close the door with the key provided when leaving. Struggled for 15 mins and gave up.
Review 2:It's cheap. Big territory. We asked for a quite room - the receptionist was nice to offer a room on the top floor, with little neighbors & far from the highway.
Review 3:The staff was great, the room was quiet and accessible from front and back doors, beds were super comfortable and the shower was brand new. The cafe on the premises had great food and a very friendly staff as well.
Review 4:The room and the furniture were old. Room was relatively maintained well, nonetheless. The size of the room was pretty small.
Review 5:The garden was very well kept and the staff at the front desk were kind. The heater worked well and kept us warm through the cold night.
Review 6:Clean, just a bit outdated. Furniture and appliances are ok, but past due for updating!
Review 7:Landscaping is great, grounds are well kept with the mature garden and resort type lay out!
Review 8:Walls are paper thin and noise was a problem when we stayed although it was quiet after 11pm
Review 9:Clean and well located for the traveller. Visalia is a nice place.
Review 10:Beyond their control, but when I checked in a water main had just broken. The first room they put me in did not have air conditioning in good working order, nor did the TV work. They moved me and it was OK, except the bathtub was very, very filthy.
Review 11:The staff were very helpful and cheerful.
Review 12:Room smelled VERY BAD (like urin smell) Bar and restaurant was very very bad. Locks on door were broken, cupboards were broken. Very poor maintenance.
Review 13:Location near Sequoia park
Review 14:Very loud with outside music and lots people until well after 10 pm. Some type of event with tables outside and music that was heard over the sound of tv.
Review 15:Lobby staff was polite and helpful
Review 16:The room was neat and clean but upon entry, it had a musty smell, (probably because of the age of the building itself?). Also, although the bathroom appeared clean, it had the smell of urine and the toilet seat was no longer white (due to age?). The bath/shower faucets were also not working properly. This being said, I am used to staying in hotels that are relatively younger in age or recently renovated. Therefore, my review is comparative to relatively newer facilities.
Review 17:Though just a little area, the garden next to the pool provided enough room for my little ones to play tag and explore. Also, the restaurant was pleasant, affordable and child friendly.
Review 18:Wi fi hardly worked and when it did it was really slow I had to wait an hour on my room to be cleaned and I checked in at 5:00 pm! Handyman working on bathroom window when I was in shower! No one told me so it scared me! Maid pushed hard to clean room too early not a pleasant stay! Won't stay there again!
Review 19:The clerk put us way in the back and up a flight of stairs. When we asked if he had anything off of the pretty garden area he said no he didn't. Then a few minutes later he said he did have something but that it would cost more. He put a hold on our payment card + 25.00 and said that even if we paid cash in the am our card could have the hold on it for up to seven days. We had never experienced that before and we travel slot!
Review 20:Considerable traffic noise outside and a guy with a leaf blower at 6:00 AM next door in the parking lot would make me choose a room at the back of the property next time.
Review 21:Great pool; it was 103 F. out and having a nice pool was a big plus. This hotel used to be the conference center but was displaced by the Marriott and the convention center downtown.
Review 22:Rooms slightly old fashioned but not necessarily a bad thing!
Review 23:Great little motel for a stop off and the attached diner is actually great. Has a nice looking pool and lots of parking.
Review 24:Very dodgy neighbourhood, did not venture out by foot. WiFi did not work all that well, especially on Labour Day Eve.
Review 25:Good Inn, big area, rooms sufficiently located away from street to be quiet.
Review 26:I could smell smoke from the room next door. Deck outside could use some updating. A discount for breakfast should be given at their restaurant since they don't provide a continental breakfast.
Review 27:Impressive grounds & gardens. Room was clean & comfortable.
Review 28:The room air conditioner was not adjustable and blowing too hard on one of the beds causing it to be a bit cold. The air freshener or room cleanser used in the room smelled a little overwhelming like baby powdered diapers. A neutral smell would have been preferred. The rooms definitely needed to be updated. The carpet was old and stained, some chips in the paint on walls, and decor was dated. The water in the pool was cloudy and not very clean.
Review 29:Pretty reasonably priced, the front desk staff were pleasant and the room was clean. Clean towels, toiletries, iron & ironing board, and small coffee maker was provided. Plus, everything was in working order in the room (except the air conditioner).
Review 30:A local customer being rude to me and my daughters in the restaurant in the evening and the chef laughing at him when I felt he should have told him to stop. My vegetable pasta meal was huge but nothing special. Waitress was very pleasant. I couldn't eat my meal as I was so upset at the abuse we received.
Review 31:This was one of my family's favourite places to stay . The pool was quiet and the area safe and convenient for an early morning run. A convenient place to stay. Nearby supermarket .
Review 32:The first room the AC was out, it was 100 degrees. The substitute room was upstairs and I have a bad knee - we would not stay there again. Old, hot, just not worth the money.
Review 33:Our room was stinky and not at all very clean. The coffee machine was dirty. The bath was very old and fallen apart. The TV was small. Bed wasn't comfortable at all. Not a good room or a good experience. There are plenty of other motels in the near area
Review 34:The inn is very nice from the outside.
Review 35:This is a very old establishment! Poor ventilation. Bad smell to the room. Check-in was poor, with terrible customer service. Happy to leave ASAP the next morning
Review 36:Location close to major road
Review 37:Room, grounds and pool were excellent. Staff friendly and excellent value for money. Staff in the Grill were very friendly also. Stayed here to visit Sequoia National Park which was a bit of a distance but hotel was worth it.
Review 38:If you use the air conditioning you get a fairly unpleasant smell, which other reviewers have confused with a sewage smell, which it isn't. Not really a problem just turn the AC off, we were out all day and didn't need the AC at night so just turned it off. Problem solved.
Review 39:The staff, pool, price and being close to Sequoia National Park.
Review 40:I had trouble with the internet connection
Review 41:I asked for rooms on the ground floor (knee trouble) looking out over the inner court and pool. That is what I got. Very pleased with the rooms.
Review 42:Could have had a little more modern updated bed for comfort but not bad.
Review 43:Loved the whole gardenlike area around motel, clean rooms, roomy shower, nice pool, everything.
Review 44:The air conditioning was a little under-performing, but passable. We had to find a working ice machine, but were able to. It is not the most modern facility, but it was clean and comfortable and at the end of the day a good value.
Review 45:We loved the proximity of this hotel to Sequoias. It was about an hour to the trees, but the value vrs the time was worth it to us. It was also readily accessible from the highway that we traveled to that location as well as would be traveling from Visalia. The room was spacious and comfortable. Air conditioning was a little light, but passable. We could park right outside the back door and then enter and exit on the courtyard as well. The pool was a big hit with my son and not too crowded. Bottom line this was a great choice for our family.
Review 46:The free wifi didn't work well while we were there, but that wasn't much of a problem. We were vacationing for outdoor experiences, and needed it only a little. Connection problem was a short term issue due to excessive number of folks accessing it at once.
Review 47:Extremely friendly manager and staff who allowed me to cancel one night's stay at no charge. The grounds of the motel are very attractive and well kept. The location is excellent for easy access to the highway leading to Sequoya National Park. It's very near downtown Visalia, where we had a couple delicious meals, and Memorial Park, where we had a quick breakfast picnic. The experience for less than $100/night can't be beat.
Review 48:No breakfast offered. Breakfast in restaurant nextdoors was expensive. There are cheaper options on the other side of the Highway.
Review 49:Porche and pool. Good departure point for Sequoia park.
Review 50:Walls were very thin and we could hear everything in the next room. Other guests were smoking outside their doors and the smell invaded our room even with the windows closed.
Review 51:Location was conveniently close to the Sequoia national park, the room was spacious and clean.
Review 52:This is not really a Don't like buy, the beds are a bit dated. Coil springs are loud and the support is weak
Review 53:Staying here was like stepping back in time, a simpler time. The grounds were created in 1962 according to a sign. We were treated like family. The rooms were clean and quiet and the staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant on site was amazing. Looks like the locals know about it already.
Review 54:The only bad experience is that we had to leave......
Review 55:There wasn't a thing to dislike !! The hotel grounds are well kept. Gardens green, meandering steeping stone walk ways, wrought iron tables and chair placement, perfect. Pool wonderful after a day of exploring Sequoias !!!!!
Review 56:Needed an additional bed. There were only two beds in the room and could not get a rollaway bed. In the mornings there was a terrible stench in the air all around the motel.
Review 57:Proximity to Sequoia national park. The Grill & Bar restaurant was very convenient.
Review 58:It TV didn't work..said signal wasn't strong enough. Was hot from traveling all day and the temperature was set somewhere else. Couldn't get it cooler. A lot of notice from upstairs.
Review 59:Like the style and decor. Homey feeling. In good condition.
Review 60:Really old hotel. Rooms seem to have some updates done, but overall still feels very out of date. Only a few power plugs in the room, so chose to charge your devices, or keep the lights on, or watch TV wisely. There were also some shady people hanging around the property when we got back one night.
Review 61:Good access to Sequoia National Park. Plenty of food options nearby. Comfortable bed.
Review 62:A good stopover in Visalia while visiting the parks. Easy to find and near some shops for essentials. Heated outdoor pool was a hit, the rooms were clean, comfortable. Appreciated the microwave in the room.
Review 63:Pool was supposed to be closed at 10pm but they let a group of people screaming and partying until way past 11pm. Maybe they were waiting for people to call and complain which I did. That is not fair to the guests .
Review 64:Clean well appointed big rooms, lovely grounds and courtyard, nice pool, good service .
Review 65:There was a locked door to an adjoining room with a family with a crying child. All the standard rooms (80) have this feature which is great for families, but not couples.
Review 66:The large pool was close to our room, and surrounded by nicely landscaped grounds. The rooms are adequate for a one night stay, and much less expensive than newer properties in the area. It has a throwback 60's travel vibe.
Review 67:The room we were given was occupied. There were dogs, that ran out of the room when we tried to enter. We were given another room where thebathroom light didn't work. We were told we couild move again because nobody can fix it. We fixed it by changing a lightbulb from another fixture. The air conditioning worked poorly and sound proofing was terrible. TV was ancient. Breakfast was good but very expensive.
Review 68:Nice pool
Review 69:The bathroom lock was broken. Only 1 of 3 rooms had a fridge.
Review 70:Staff were more extremely accommodating and reviewed all the information we needed with us. Rooms were "vintage" but comfortable.
Review 71:Their website or was it Booking.com? stated they did not accept pets. The temp. was very hot but we left our pooch in the van and protected her as well as possible. The next morning we noticed several small dogs on property and found out they do accept small dogs for a fee, which we would have gladly paid!
Review 72:Good value, good location and quiet. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated for an older property. Big pool too!
Review 73:Very pleasant one night stay. Average rooms, but great grounds and friendly staff. Extra points for sliding glass door for view and access to deck/grounds
Review 74:Breakfast not included, got surprised when waitress offered us a'la carte breakfast for 20 USD. Later we noticed that we had been warned that breakfast is not included, so it's not really hotels fault.
Review 75:Excellent pool, comfortable room and beds. Felt like staying at 4* hotel at least.
Review 76:The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and the grounds are lovely. Despite being an older facility, the room was nice, clean, and did not seem old or run down.
Review 79:The staff we encounter range from curt to simply annoyed and snotty,I think it was the heat , I hope so because it was a lovely place to stay.
Review 80:Very relaxing environment, nice touches throughout like park benches in front of room to enjoy your morning coffee and evening cocktail .
Review 81:clean and spacious rooms that haven't been restyled since forever, but that is a good thing. There is a little fridge and coffee machine and the shower is large and with good water pressure There is a nice pool area where you can relax and a well kept garden with some tables and chairs where you can pic-nic. Best 2-star hotel I ever stayed at.
Review 82:Very pleased with this stay. We're about halfway through a coast to coast motorcycle tour and have stayed in quite a variety of places. This one was a pleasant surprise! Well maintained inside and out. Conveniently located for our tour of Sequoia National and helpful staff, as well. Highly recommend this one!
Review 83:Spacious room and grounds. The room was clean and tidy and everything in it (a/c, plumbing, fridge, microwave, etc.) worked perfectly. Had a nice quiet night's sleep and some fun poking around the property in the morning looking at the architecture. Good value stay. No breakfast but there's coffee and hot chocolate.
Review 84:- Slightly older equipment. - The room might be bigger. - Internet was working well, but not directly in our room.
Review 85:- Although situated close to the main road, it is well isolated from the road - it is basically situated in a garden which is very nice. - Good value for good price. - Large pool, unfortunately not heated (visiting in May).
Review 86:No: Microwave available. Lamp bulb burned out(couldn't see computer). Both Tissue boxes empty. Smoke alarm chirping. I had to remove from ceiling.
Review 87:Ground floor. Clean. Excellent value!
Review 88:The A/C either had to be "off" or "on". The temperature was not adjustable. The pillows were too bulky and hard. The TV was very old. The Wi-Fi was really, really, slow.
Review 89:The grounds were very quiet. There was plenty of parking. The pool was very nice. The two times I used the pool, there were no other visitors, which was quite nice.
Review 90:Noise through the adjoining door. Shower door was very rickety.
Review 91:Decor was pleasant. Bed was comfortable. The Grill on site was convenient for eating on arrival after a long journey.
Review 92:Very comfortable bed, pillows. Made me go on a pillow hunt when I got home. My son and his wife stayed in another room and did not have the same experience. Was worth a few dollars more for a garden room.
Review 93:The location was about 100 yards from the interstate, and half a mile from the county jail. Room was filthy (our kids feet were proof after an hour of walking around barefoot in the room). Beds were like plywood, and towels sandpaper.
Review 94:The price.
Review 95:The sound isolation between rooms could be better; the doors between rooms are very thin.
Review 96:The hotel has nice exteriors with flowers and plants. Nice pool. Free wifi.
Review 97:The hotel should allow the diner to charge to the rooms as this could be a problem if you didn't have sufficient cash.
Review 98:We all liked the pool and garden areas although it was too cold to use them. The lady who greeted us was very pleasant and upgraded our rooms as they were quite quiet. Beds were very comfortable. Everything was clean. The adjoining diner was lovely and the staff were very friendly.
Review 99:No fridge in the room, credit card debited when it specified the paiement would in cash, breakfast too expensive even if the place is nice.
Review 100:Size of the room, quiete place, shower with pressure
Review 101:Not enough electrical outlets. Had to keep switching my phone charger to use hair dryer, etc. Also, rooms are very dark.
Review 102:The grounds are really nice.
Review 103:We could the guests next door, talking to each other, talking on the phone, and the alarm clock in the morning! Not very restful at all! The lighting in the room was very poor. I could not read my book in bed. The lamps all need better/higher voltage bulbs! Disappointing!!
Review 104:We really enjoyed our stay at The Lamplighter Inn. Friendly Staff with a Fast Check In. For being such an Old Motel everything was in good condition. Beautiful Large Pool with pretty landscaping throughout the property. Great Value for You $$$.
Review 105:I enjoy giving room service a generous tip . I was a little saddened to see that room service had already included their tip on my receipt.
Review 106:i had some personal concerns and the staff addressed them immediately. I will definitely be staying there again.
Review 107:The air conditioning didn't work and there was no refrigerator. I got sick. Don't know if that was related.
Review 108:The pool was nice but needed to be cleaned.
Review 109:I have no negative notes at this point.
Review 110:Friendly staff, excellent service and food in cafeteria, clean room and comfortable bed, closeness to all parts of Visalia, reasonable price.
Review 111:I did not like the broken drawer on the cabinet. It was an inconvenience to me. Room 262.
Review 112:I liked the quiet and the location. The food was good at the Grill.
Review 113:No fridge, no microwave, the room was too close to the bar & grill loud music till after midnight. The vents in the room were blowing hot air. Very disappointing. Will never recommend this to anyone.
Review 114:Not much
Review 115:My wife woke up in the middle of the night with numerous bites all over. Also, occupants above us were noisy the entire night. Not a good night's sleep, especially when we had plans to wake up at 6 am.
Review 116:room is really small. don't like them using plastic cups. at thebegining og the night, the heater was broken, but fixed later.
Review 117:staff is kind and helpful
Review 118:the bed was sagging and looks like it was bend underneath and smoke dector fall off the celling
Review 119:would like more water for the shower would like a room upstairs can here cars hit their alarm on their cars
Review 120:The garden areas were neatly kept and very attractive. Beds were comfortable and shower large with good water pressure. Very little noise at night. Front office staff were helpful and pleasant. All the staff smiled and seemed content.
Review 121:The air and heating system sucks. Central system that only turns on at certain temperatures. We were warm at night and slept with window slightly ajar.
Review 122:The grounds were beautiful and location great for our daily trips to Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Nearby restaurants also was a benefit.
Review 123:Small thing - my creamer packets were not replaced one day and that ruined my in-room coffee experience. Small things stay with me. Everything else was great.
Review 124:Great value Very friendly, efficient, and helpful staff. Would be my first choice when I return to Visalia next Spring.
Review 125:I love staying at Lamplighter, it is always clean and staff pleasant. It is a place that you still get an actual key to your room. You can't hear anything from the neighboring rooms and that is always great. I have never had a bad stay.
Review 126:The room was close to the pool and well maintained gardens, in which we had a secluded table and chairs to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The rooms were a bit dated, but clean and including all we needed. For an overnight stay it was good. The restaurant (diner style) close by was friendly, clean and good value both for dinner and breakfast.
Review 127:It's a bit dated and it shows, but that's really all. For the price you can't go wrong!
Review 128:The lampliter Inn is situated right of the highway and is easily accessible. The beds are good and the rooms are quite big. A definite plus is that you can park right in front of your room. There is a nice swimming pool where you can relax.
Review 129:Located next to busy road. Could do with a few parasols around the pool for shade
Review 130:Restaurant was very good with cheerful staff. Good value for money. Grounds nicely kept. Nice pool
Review 131:They did not replace my coffee and cream and sugar, nor did they clean coffee pot between days .
Review 132:The hotel grounds were very nice with lots of flowers, relaxing and fun pool, restuarant had great food, and the rooms are clean. Felt safe at all times.
