Reviews for Cliffbreakers Riverside Hotel & Conference Center
Review 1:THE FRONT DESK CLERK AMANDA WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEE SHE RECOMMEND A RESTURANT IN THE AREA. She was very kind and upgraded r room , celebrating a birthday.
Review 2:NO LOCAL TV AND NOT ABLE TO WATCH ANY SPORTS LIKE FOOTBALL GAMES. WE WENT FOR BREAKFAST AT 8:50 NO COFFEE MADE AND NO FOOD EXCEPT POTATOES WHICH DID LOOK GOOD. THE BATHROOM WAS NOT CLEAN. HOUSEKEEPERS ARE GOOD GREETERS BUT OTHER STAFF NOT FRIENDLY AND NOT HELPFULL ON CHECKING OUT. WE WANTED TO SEE THE RIVER AND WAS ON THE RIVER SIDE BUT ROOM HAD NO VIEW OF THE RIVER.
Review 3:LOCATION WAS GOOD FOR US.
Review 4:breakfast was great and in a large room with a view. Not some tiny hallway off the entrance like so many discount hotels. Huge indoor pool area great for a family.
Review 5:Breakfast was disgusting. The decore was out dated. The carpet was old. No toiletries. The room smelled. I was very disappointed
Review 6:The location was close to where I needed to be.
Review 7:Was awakened at 1130 and told they had put us in the wrong room Room had broken lock, broken phone, broken hair drier Hasn't been updated in YEARS
Review 8:Cool old woodwork
Review 9:Evidently there had been some sort of leak and the 4th floor had gapingholes in the hallway ceiling and huge dryers set up in the hall way butthe overhead hallway lights were out as were the emergency exit lights.Staff had set out tables with floor lamps but it was still really dark--desk clerk didn't mention it to us or offer to put us in a differentpart of hotel. Also, elevator didn't have any sort of inspection sign--we noticed because it made a lot of noise as it moved. We took the stepsafter one elevator ride. The tv had a really limited number ofcable/satellite channels and no way to see a directory. Overall, thehotel is old and dated, but clean enough. Parking lot is difficult toget out of, although there is a traffic light--you wait a long, long, long time before you can make a left turn.
Review 10:Breakfast was good for it being included in the price of the hotel. Unfortunately, they only make enough breakfast to accommodate the number of guests they have. So, if guests over eat, there's not a lot of food or no food at all for the late comer.
Review 11:The hotel was conveniently located to the event I was a part of. It's a charming and affordable hotel.
Review 12:The entire building needs a big facelift. Everything is worn, sometimes almost thread-bare. And a musty smell throughout the facility.
Review 13:Great location on the river. Very friendly staff (desk, breakfast, and maid service). Enjoyed the hot breakfast selections.
Review 14:One vending machine, which was broken. Lounge closed early. Restaurant not open at all on one of my days of stay. River view does not mean view of the river; just a glimpse through the trees.
Review 15:Room was clean, spacious and larger than expected. Bed was comfortable. The hotel was peaceful and quiet.
Review 16:Did not like that the lounge closed at 10pm on a Saturday night. The manager of the restaurant was rude. Being a guest of the hotel we thought that having access to the deck attached to the lounge would be accessable to us before non staying patrons.
Review 17:The hotel was beautiful. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. Anything we needed they accommodated.
Review 18:The hotel is undergoing renovations so the holes in the ceiling are a little unsightly. The place will be beautiful again when they are finished.
Review 19:Awesome breakfast, cool decor, and super comfy bed
Review 20:Stayed in the 2 level room. No sheets, blankets or extra pillows were left in room for the sofa bed. The sofa bed was terrible. You could feel the springs sticking up. The gas fireplace did not work. Had only 1 ice machine and 1 soda machine on different levels. Ate in the bar while watching the NHL playoff game. Only 1 employee in the bar working the bar, serving tables, cleaning tables and running back & forth to the kitchen. Should have been at least 2 people working in the bar.
Review 21:Nice setting on the river. The king bed in the loft area was very comfortable.
Review 22:Could use some better pillows, and there was a water leak in the hallway. Also, we didnt make it down for breakfast as it closed before the kids were up and moving - so having that available longer would have been nice.
Review 23:We stayed in one of the suites with a loft. The kids though it was just the coolest thing. My husband and I enjoyed the antique decor and feel to the place.
Review 24:Some of the outdoor spaces were being renovated and could not be used. As I was photographing a wedding there, this put a bit of a cramp in our plans, but we worked around it.
Review 25:I loved the lobby and our room was amazing! I was photographing a wedding and there are so many great settings for beautiful photos!
Review 26:The amenities listed for the property were not available. We stayed 8 days. Laundry facilities were out of order, restaurant only open for 3 meals while we were there, WiFi only worked 3 days and under renovation which was not disclosed.
Review 27:The location was the best part of our stay. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 28:Samantha the staff member was ridiculously rude!! She first ces walking up with a plate of food an rudly asks what can I do flu you guys...then takes her sweet time putting her plate down an coming back. Then she automatically took my credit card an was going to charge the room on it when we wanted to pay cash an there was a credit card on file for the room already an then didn't inform us before we scheduled that if you pay with cash you must deposit an additional $100 ...we went to the black stone cherry concert an didn't know this so that took more money out if our pockets when we didn't know that was a fee...then my mother called an asked her why she didn't say that in the first place an asked to speak to a manager she rudly said they don't come in until Monday ...she then asked her name an she hung up! My mother called back a couple times an she repeated this action. Very very displeased with the service from this woman. An there was an issue with our bathroom! I took a late night shower an our tub seemed to be leaking water from under it an I slipped an fell I have two massive bruises on my back rib cages from this as well!
Review 29:I liked the staff member Jessica she was very helpful an concerned about our stay while there. She was very helpful an even upgraded our room. Only the first staff member Samantha! Was ridiculously terrible!
Review 30:The pull out coach was worn down. Wallpaper coming off with what looked like mold underneath. Closet shutter type door was dirty. Multiple lamps needed bulbs replaced. Room was dark without.
Review 31:The bed in the suite was great. The fireplace worked and was great to use.
Review 32:The free breakfast was terrible, and the regular restaurant is closed during the week. The card keys for the room stopped working several times, including the first time we tried to use them
Review 33:There's a nice view of the Rock River and the location was good for us.
Review 34:It was far from the highway.
Review 35:The hotel was so pretty inside and quaint. It is an unbelievable value for the price. Beds are super comfy, rooms large, staff so kind, great view, pet friendly and breakfast was stellar. Will make this our regular stop on away to see family.
Review 36:The restaurant and bar were closed Sunday and Monday nights. I would think the bar could be open with a limited menu.
Review 37:The architectural elements are interesting and fun
Review 38:No negatives.
Review 39:Excellent value and many wonderful artifacts, furniture, lamps, sculptures, fountains, and more. We will drive the six miles from the Interstate when in this area just to stay there.
Review 40:Needs some cosmetic work. Worn woodwork, carpeting needs cleaning, furniture is worn.
Review 41:The overall ambience was great. Beautiful decorating and views. Food was very good. Staff was really nice. Had a wonderful time.
Review 42:Did not use Wi-Fi, so could not rate that. MINOR irritations: bathroom water could have been hotter, toilet kept running until you flipped the handle again. Informed the desk at check-out, they were appreciative of the report and said they would fix it right away.
Review 43:Desk manager Josh called to ask if the accommodations were acceptable; that set the tone that I was truly a valued guest. Breakfast was lovely; Randy was very friendly and considerate. In-room coffee was delicious. Bed was extremely comfortable. More than 1 mirror is great, as two women were using this room.
Review 44:Carpet on stairs and hallways needs to be replaced
Review 45:I liked the loft room w/two full baths a lot. It faced east over the river and had an excellent view. Breakfast was great served buffet style.
Review 46:When first entering the room, it smelled musty. Furniture, especially top banister, needed dusting. Windows needed cleaning or replaced.
Review 47:I liked the friendly and professional staff; the lovely river view; the restaurant food and the quietness.
Review 48:It was noisy, with music playing through the sound system too loud all night.
Review 49:Great view over looking the river, and hearty breakfast, with many good choices.
Review 50:I think the room could use some TLC.
Review 51:It is a beautiful hotel with a great view. The staff was professional, helpful and very nice. House keeping did an excellent job and the breakfast was very good.
Review 52:Dinner in the restaurant was not inexpensive but the quality of the steak was less than at home. I wouldn't have to pay $32 at home for a semi-acceptable meal.
Review 53:Ambiance
Review 54:the catered meals for the two events...the pasta dinner was very dry and lacking flavor !!!!!!!!! It was horrible for a restaurant that has a good reputation.
Review 55:nice, clean room breakfast buffet
Review 56:mattress not very good sunk to the middle. Our dinner was slow getting to us. The hamburger had a hair in it and was under cooked. The other dishes were great.
Review 57:breakfast very good. The waitress at dinner was great and we were compensated nicely and they worked very hard to fix the issues.
Review 58:The hotel does need some updating but seems to be in progress.
Review 59:Though the hotel needs some updating which seems to be in progress, it was a fantastic place. Take the time to wander all the halls and notice the unique antiques, quirky things like a chandelier in the stairwell and little hidden rooms. Beautiful decks overlooking the river are a great place to relax.
Review 60:I was not happy when I was woke up at 3:30 by the smoke alarm beepingfrom a low battery. Staff was unprepared to deal with it, and finallymanaged to get it off the ceiling and took it away. No more sleep for methat night. The second morning I tried to connect to the internet withmy computer which had been doing fine the night before. I apparently wasconnected ok to the network, but had no internet connection. The womanat the front desk had no idea what I was asking about - just kepttelling me that her phone was working fine. I have traveled enough andhave had enough experience wth computers and networks that I knew therewas a problem with the hotel's internet service, but could notconvey that to the woman. Fortunately, I was checking out soon after. The air conditioner was one of those in which the fan goes on and off soI opened the window. I'd rather have the outside sounds than the onand off of the inside system.
Review 61:I like the quiet atmosphere in the rear of the building overlooking theRock River. The restaurant is excellent. My room was upgraded to a themeroom - no explanation and no extra cost. Luxurious surroundings comparedto what I was expecting. Room was clean and roomy, as well as beingfurnished with Frendh style furnishings including a chadelier. Thebreakfast had a good selection of food and convenient hours. The king-sized bed in my room was very comfortable even if it was so high up Icould not sit on it with my feet touching the floor. Had to sort of flopinto bed, or climb up.
Review 62:Upon entering our room we were greeted by a chunk of hair hanging from the stairs. Our room was dirty and smelled like a nursing home...Need I say more?! The hotel was sold-out so we just dealt with these disturbances. But it didn't get better. The restaurant was closed on a Sunday night (over a holiday weekend) so we couldn't get food for our children. The front desk wasn't even aware of this information and sent us down to the restaurant twice. The complimentary breakfast was disgusting (maybe I should be happy the restaurant was closed the evening before). Disorganized staff, dirty guest rooms and overall a dirty hotel. Stay at another consistent chain in the area!
Review 63:The location right off the water made for a pleasant arrival. The bed & TVs were decent.
Review 64:Well, the facility needs some touching up (chipped walls, etc).
Review 65:Why stay at a chain, when you have this option?? Surprisingly affordable, such a friendly staff, and a simply gorgeous location.
Review 66:My room was not attended to at all during my 2 day stay, No clean towels, no garbage was taken, bathroom was not cleaned. When I called upset about it the girl at the front desk told me that she thought they only attended the rooms every other day. Which is, of course inaccurate. When I ordered a drink in the hotel bar the bartender attempted to get olives from a large jar with her bare hands before I stopped her. I had to explain to her why that was unacceptable and unsanitary. I was shocked. They also overcooked a bone in rib eye steak pretty significantly. The hotel is old and in need of updating. Only 1 elevator which was very slow and hot. When I checked in promptly at 3 my room was not ready and they had to put me in another room which was on the 1 fl (2nd floor of lower level) and farthest away from the elevator. Floor plan of hotel was confusing too. The main level is actually the 3rd fl and the lower levels were floors 1 & 2. I got it but found a couple of guests that were very confused. When I finally got to talk to the hotel manager 2 days after I checked out and I had to call her even though she had my contact info, I was finally comped a nights stay.
Review 67:The entrance was very nice. The beds were comfortable. Location was excellent for where I needed to be.
Review 68:The atmosphere was stunning and can't beat the price! We were very comfortable during our 4 day stay and will be staying there on our future visits to Rockford
Review 69:Just loved everything about the hotel my family and and we're pleased in all aspects I would return to this facility again. Thank you Lourdes.
Review 70:The elevator was kinda slow but was very easy to take the stairs.
Review 71:My trip became longer than anticipated but the inn was very accommodating to me and my boys It was a very relaxing place and even woke up to rabbits eating outside the window.
Review 72:The room wasn't as clean as I would have liked. The bathroom door was difficult to close all the way which was a pain with a 1 year old. The "River View" room we had was a view of a building off the river...not very scenic at all.
Review 73:Location and size of room. The beds were fairly comfortable...better than the average hotel. Room service was available and the staff was extremely nice. The continental breakfast was delicious!
Review 74:No hot water on Sunday morning. I got held up on business and did not get to the hotel for my first night I had booked. I got charged for that night, they cancelled my reservation, and when they rebooked me for the two nights I was in town they raised the price over what I had originally booked the room at.
Review 75:Nice older hotel, like the feeling if the facitlty. The food was good.
Review 76:We asked foe a river view room and received one on the first floor. I would like to see the hotel trim the greenery so that you could actually see the river.
Review 77:Very quiet room. Like the relaxed atmosphere. Nice pool. Got just what we reserved. Pictures are very accurate.
Review 78:We are large adults and could have used more towels without asking . For one night I expect a shower at night and in the am . Also in the room there was a coffee stir stick on the chair from the previous guests . Also there was spit/dirty in the sink .
Review 79:On the river ... Old fashioned structure . Decor . Breakfast was great !

Review 118:Great place absolutely worth the distance from the interxstate
Review 119:Everything
Review 120:The rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding every morning.
Review 121:Room wasn't cleaned after my first night. All they front desk would say is that they would leave a message with the cleaning staff
Review 122:The river view is blocked by trees, poor maintenance, and could be cleaner.
