Reviews for Hotel Modera
Review 1:The AC was practically non existent, had to request fan due to the room being way too warm.
Review 2:They brought up a fan when requested and having a tablet in room was very nice. It was raining outside, and they provided us a umbrella for the walk to the ballet.
Review 3:Room was small and cold, floor in bathroom was VERY cold. Tub was so small taking a shower was difficult! Closet was too small, sliding door design made it impossible to use closet and bathroom at the same time. Light fixtures had switches that were difficult to reach...had to use a clothes hanger to keep one light from falling off the wall. "Lock up" on TV a common occurance, other electronic services had glitches. Lots of effort to be different but many "innovations" did not work...ice packaged in bags that did not fit in ice bucket, bag tore when trying to break up the ice berg...example of a nice idea that did not work! We had a two week stay and were given what probably was the crummiest room in the place with a view limited to the parking garage across the street! We put up with it, but after a week realized we should have moved.
Review 4:Restaurant was good.
Review 5:The heater in my room made such a loud noise every time it came on. I tried to turn it off but then the room became uncomfortable to sleep in. In the end I had to deal with being woken up every time the heater came on.
Review 6:Friday night was like a college dorm hall. It was loud inside and outside of the hotel. Unfortunately, the thin walls led to a terrible night's sleep. We were comped a free dinner.
Review 7:Our complimentary dinner at the attached Nel Centro restaurant was so good that we returned the next morning for an excellent brunch, too. Free earplugs...night 2 was much better.
Review 8:We were disturbed during the day on a holiday weekend with construction noise and at night with a dog whining from the next room (the owners had left the dog alone in the room and he was lonely). The rooms are small and cramped.
Review 9:The location, the restaurant, and lobby spaces (including the outdoor courtyard) were very nice.
Review 10:We loved the Modera! The staff were very friendly and forthcoming with answers to our questions. The bedding was supercomfy! And we really appreciated being able to leave our car in the parking garage after checking out. That really helped us out!
Review 11:We had requested a little something special as this was our anniversary. The hotel placed a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room, and two glasses of different sizes. This made toasting a bit awkward.
Review 12:Nicely decorated, clean. Polite staff. Complimentary bottle of champagne for our anniversary.
Review 13:It's quite pricey. I didn't love the bathroom door setup because it wasn't quite as "smell proof" as I would've liked.
Review 14:It was a beautiful and environmentally conscious hotel which I appreciate.
Review 15:Even though I booked 3 weeks in advance, called the week of to confirm reservation our room (which had roses placed in it upon my husbands request) was given to someone else. We waited ten minutes at checking in to get a room, after being told nothing but a single King room was available for my friends and I.
Review 16:It was clean, stylish and comfortable.
Review 17:The couch in the suite kinda had a sour-throw-up kind of smell... But everything else was great!
Review 18:They upgraded us to the Suite at no extra charge! That was amazing.
Review 19:The furnace in Room 203 is hyper sensitive. We had set to 70 and they thing literally goes off 6-10 times per hour. Turned it off to sleep and in 30 min. it comes right back on. Made it hard to sleep. Additionally, rather than replacing old bathtubs they had liners put in. Ours had come loose and when you take a shower its like a big bubble on the floor of the shower. Also - allowing dogs is a double edged sword. We had barking that woke us up at 6 am.
Review 20:Love the location, the trendiness of the decorations and the vibe, and loved the outdoor patio area off the bar. Great place to be on a beautiful Fall Friday night. Rooms are super quiet as well.
Review 21:No pool, no sauna (despite being advertised as having one). Breakfast not included. Not super-close to main tramlines.
Review 22:Close to Keller Auditorium. Good WiFi.
Review 23:none
Review 24:We had problems with our rooms (first the key, then the shower) and we have been upgraded to a superior category. Problems can happen, it how the management react that makes the difference.
Review 25:'80's furnishings at a 2015 price. Bedside lamp unplugged, but cord did not even reach socket.
Review 26:Location, valet guys, pleasant accommodating staff.
Review 27:Very expensive with parking extra
Review 28:Located a few blocks from the concert we were attending and within walking distance of the Portland Farmers market. Really modern
Review 29:We were planning on parking on the street to avoid the pretty ridiculous $36/night fee but, unsolicited, we were told by our bartender in the restaurant that the validation would be 50% off. The next day, the rude and unhelpful desk person told me the bartender was wrong. Wow not my problem! Additionally, the bedding was dirty and dusty. To top things off, we left a bottle of good whiskey in the freezer and a phone charger in the wall. We called the next day to arrange pickup and were told "nothing was recovered from the room". Nice!
Review 30:So not a $400 a night hotel room. It was seriously tiny with no view andan itty bitty bathroom. The only reason we stayed there was thelocation. Should have stayed somewhere else and used uber. Yes for $200a night. Wasted money for the price they charge. Not a good value.
Review 31:The food at the restaurant was good. The patio was a great place to sitand wait for our room to be ready. The bed was comfortable.
Review 32:Very nice, clean hotel. Small rooms, but with everything we needed. Good toiletries and quality in-room coffee. The hotel feels very European. The staff was friendly and courteous. Easy walk to all the major attractions in Portland.
Review 33:Upon arrival, one couple in our group did not have a room although there was confirmation of a reservation. Computer Glitch they said! OK, maybe, but the reception person was not at all caring or friendly about the whole issue. A bit too matter of fact about it all. She did not make us feel welcome. They did find a room in the end, however,
Review 34:The location is fantastic. Walking distance to many restaurants of note. The bar is nice with outdoor spaces.
Review 35:food service - noisy dining room small room smaller bathroom - toiletries affixed to the wall, made a bath awkward noisy fan/air conditioner
Review 36:location art work on the walls
Review 37:A/C didn't work; room was small, yet it was upgraded to a larger one.
Review 38:Staff, on site bar and very good restaurant with an "in" feel, great breakfast pastry, very near Keller Auditorium
Review 39:I liked our room but I wish we would of gotten a higher room with a better view.
Review 40:Awesome location and thanks to being a genius member I received a great price for our stay.
Review 41:Room was small; bathroom entrance was narrow; no available outlets for charging laptop or phone unless unplug something else.
Review 42:Comfortable bed; nice restaurant attached to hotel
Review 43:Nothing really
Review 44:Lovely hotel with very friendly staff and in a great location. Lovely restaurant and outdoor sitting area with a live fire. Cool interior designs and very comfortable room. Excellent value for money.
Review 45:Parking and food is pretty expensive
Review 46:helpful staff, very nice, clean, and spacious room with comfortable bed and modern decor, area is in downtown, i was staying here for a conference at a nearby hotel.
Review 47:The " view" was of the building across the street. One reason I booked this hotel is for the view of the river I didn't get. The room was tiny and with two people in the bed it was hot both of us slept terrible because the thermostat won't go below 65 and with the window open you hear street noise all night.
Review 48:The room was clean, the lobby was classy, employees were nice.
Review 49:Hotel Using a heat pump that does not allow you to cool your room. Unusual sunny winter day and my room was 78 degrees. Be sure to ask for a fan! Lousy water pressure in shower but very nice bath products almost make up for it.
Review 50:Staff are professional, helpful. Outdoor patio is great spot to meet or spend the evening. Great restaurant!!!
Review 51:I felt as though I was not accommodated at all with what my needs as a guest were, I was not allowed to make any noise before or after 10 pm and the staff did not make me feel welcome or valued as a customer. I was celebrating my birthday and it was really frustrating to have to move rooms. The room I was moved to was almost half the size and the TV was broken, not what i wanted or paid for. Customer service was lacking and communication between staff and myself was almost none.
Review 52:My first room was beautiful, everything i wanted. Great view, the bathroom was spectacular and the bed was cozy.
Review 53:Another full length mirror would have been nice! The large sliding door was very hard to open and close! We could hear the next door neighbors pretty well.
Review 54:Room was good size and I liked having a dinette table with 4 chairs. Very nice lounge area! Great to have parking but the additional cost is quite high.
Review 55:+ the discount was great + the location cool + one of the elevators was down for a longtime, which was annoying...but not devastating + the food was tasty; but not gorgeous as other portland restys. tend to be.
Review 56:Carpet needs to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned. Carpet in halls and in room was grungy. Decor was dated - need lighter colours to pick it up.
Review 57:Restaurant and very comfortable bed.
Review 58:paid a healthy rate but still had to buy wifi not enough outlets in the room to charge our stuff one elevator not working
Review 59:location next to university comfortable bed
Review 60:Because we did not book directly with the hotel but thro booking.com we were told we would have to pay 10$ for it. We were made to feel like second class guests. We refused to pay on principle. We also had noisy neighbours at 2am. Quiet hours policy needs to be advertised more.
Review 61:Convenience, clean & modern
Review 62:It is a hub for happy hour. The noise in the restaurant requires one to shout to be heard to table companions. The valet parking is awkward.
Review 63:The art throughout is outstanding. The location is great for downtown and PSU. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Review 64:The restaurant did not offer any vegetarian options. Sound transmission through the walls/doors of the rooms is baaaaad. We heard "everything" that happened in our neighboring rooms.
Review 65:The courtyard/entry/lobby are all beautiful and the aesthetic qualities of the hotel are impressive. Most of the staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 66:Even for a generally nice hotel like this one, the rates are way over the top. Location pretty central, but in the business district rather than around restaurants. You pay extra for parking. The breakfast is mediocre at best.
Review 67:Located in the town centre. All amenities, helpful front desk.
Review 68:Shower head broke
Review 69:My new husband and I stayed here for our first night as newlyweds and it was everything we needed. We had one snag, the shower didn't work properly. They sent someone to fix it very quickly but it still had just a sputtering of water after the quick fix. Overall, it was a beautiful property and a very nice room. Thank you for the great start to our married life.
Review 70:Closet door also functions as mirrored bath door, which is awkward and provides no privacy. The AC is unpredictable as the fan makes so much noise it can be interruptive. There is no storage space. Complimentary robes take up too much space in closet and bath area is too crowded.
Review 71:Ground floor has a phenomenal interior design which is modern yet comfortable. The eye is drawn to the "Living Wall" created by growing ferns on a concrete sidewall in the beautiful outdoor entryway of the Hotel Modera. The food and service is great!
Review 72:No AC Room was small, overpriced for $289. Nothing special added to warrant that price tag. Had nicer, larger room for less this winter and spring. Felt like an old section of hotel in comparison to previous visits
Review 73:Concierge's recommendations Valet Response from help desk for broken AC
Review 74:Despite the amenities and high quality, I felt that this hotel was overpriced. Look for a sale or priceline deal.
Review 75:Loved this hotel, but probably wouldn't have been able to stay if I hadn't gotten it on sale
Review 76:Loud a/c, woke me up every time it went on and off. I ran the water in the bathtub for a long time and it still came out a brownish color. The room and the bathroom were small. The bathroom door a slider and was really heavy and difficult to open and close. You needed to slide it to the closed position to use the closet. Someone with strength or shoulder problems, as well as the elderly would not be able to do it.
Review 77:nice pillows and abundant towels
Review 78:minor things you don't notice until you don't have them: no fan in bathroom; toilet seat was loose and slid as soon as I sat down
Review 79:up-to-date decor--very modern; very clean and welcoming; staff extremely friendly! Food was excellent!
Review 80:Bedside table on only one side of bed
Review 81:Good location, nice outside bar/patio, excellent restaurant, not too big, five blocks to the river for jog, close to a lot of retail, two blocks to streetcar
Review 82:had to pay a lot for on-site parking
Review 83:facilitate, staff, on-site restaurant all escellent

Review 104:Breakfast too late for conference

Review 109:Location, look and feel of property, kindness of the statt
Review 110:Really enjoyed the food, farmers market and walking to downtown Portland.
Review 111:Interior design Food The valet (really quick)
Review 112:Small room. Worn out. Small bathroom. Poor shower. Poor bedding. Poor price. Poor service.

Review 115:Poor wifi Parking expensive
Review 116:Good bed Clean and modern room
