Reviews for Highlander Motel
Review 1:This should ideally be a 1-2 star property. The rooms look very old. The A/C and heating system are antiquated. The bed was very uncomfortable and creaked. It is very small property with less than 15 rooms and do not have breakfast or a restaurant.
Review 2:The motel is located about an hour from the Grand Canyon in a little town called Williams, AZ. The location is close to downtown but yet quiet.
Review 3:The only drawback was the proximity to the train tracks. By law the trains have to blow their horn through the town. It did wake me up but the motel has the old world feeling. A throwback into days gone by so I was not irritated at all with it. Some might be if it woke a sleeping baby. The restaurant next door was very pricy for the amount and quality of food and do not suggest it.
Review 4:Cute and quaint. Great location. Owner was very kind and helpful. Parking was perfect for toting stuff into our room. Location to shopping, restaurants and bars was perfect. The owner had the room heated before we arrived so we walked into a warm comfortable room. We checked high and low in the room for any sign of bugs or filth. To our amazement the room was very well kept. I am never comfortable before the inspection but slept like a baby afterwards!
Review 5:Hair in tub, lipstick from previous occupant left on coffee mug, no blanket (only bedspread), towels had a musty smell..very noisy furnace..
Review 6:Bed was comfortable, nice to have fridge and microwave, newer towels, newer carpet...
Review 7:The bed wasn't as comfy as I would've liked but it was perfect for just one night.
Review 8:I loved that we could see the Polar Express train from our room.
Review 9:The lights outside the room were exceptionally bright, and I have trouble sleeping in a lighted room. The good news, they would be turned off. The bad news, sometimes at 10:00pm, sometimes not til 2:00 am.
Review 10:Location.
Review 11:upon arrival, i was told that i couldn't stay at the highlander, due to work being done on pipes. i saw that others were staying there, though. i was told i had to stay across the street at the westerner, and given a key to a room there which was awful. i had been made to pay in advance, so chose to just deal with it. will never stay at either location again.
Review 12:the room isn't insulated well. it's a little bit airy
Review 13:top location near to grand canyon (50min). very good and delicious restarant are located near to the motel. Safeway supermarket only 2min to walk.
Review 14:Though in the "middle of nowhere", it was close enough to the Grand Canyon to serve as a staging point for our hiking group. The motel portion has small and old-fashioned rooms. Perfectly OK for a night's sleep, but the the Hilton it aint. Restaurant adequate.
Review 15:They had rooms for our group when others did not. The staff were helpful. Interesting outdoor ambiance of welded metal western sculpture and hot rods. Good if you are up for something a little offbeat.
Review 16:Small room, colour of bed sheets (brown), we weren't sure if they were clean, found pubic hairs in the bed. A bit pricey, but they all are in Williams.
Review 17:Good location, friendly staff
Review 18:the light where the microwave had to be left on to charge the cell phones or the light in the bathroom had to be left on during the whole time to charge the cell phones. You are using electricity that should not be left on just to charge something.
Review 19:nice and clean.
Review 20:I was shocked at the difference in the appearance of the place versus the actual appearance of the place. Parking for my room was not good. People next to me were always parking too far over their lines for me to get my car into my spot.
Review 21:Location and information about things in the area from the owner.
Review 22:When i booked my room price was 137$, but them when i wanted to pay for the room price was 158$. Owner wasnt there, housemade couldnt explain me where the price came from. I asked them to get in touch with me about the price changes, but they didnt and they charged me 158$. So event the room was small but clean i was very disappointed with charges that they couldnt even explain.
Review 23:Place was great. Staff super friendly, area to sit outside where we met fellow travlers. Great value for the money would have stayed longer but they were booked up.
Review 24:Not perfectly clean. Towels smelling really moldy. Plastic cover on matress not very comfortable (but a least more hygienic).
Review 25:Situation close du Grand Canyon
Review 26:The bed was too small. Next time we want the single queen bed.
Review 27:We loved this place! The room was clean. The housekeeper Sally was amazing. The office staff was super friendly. Extremely knowledgeable about the area. We would stay here again! Great value for the money!
Review 28:I've been spoiled by modern hotels. The noise is the biggest issue. Could not sleep due to other guests and their drunken escapades at 2:30 am. No staff on site, so not much you can do about it. No sleep.
Review 29:I wanted to try an old school Route 66 motel.
Review 30:We arrived and most of the lights if the motel name sign were burned out. Shows no pride in motel. The toilet didn't flush right and the tub tap was leaking. The shower curtain was zebra skin print. The bed had zigzaggy check sheets on the bed, couldn't tell if they were clean or not. There was 2 pillows on bed with old worn out quilted pillow shams on them. The room smelled old as soon as you entered. There was a table and chairs outside the non smoking room, so I went out in the morning to eat my breakfast and a man sat down at the next table and started smoking which the smoke blew over to my table and in the window of my non smoking room.
Review 31:The sink vanity was newer, there was a fridge and a microwave in the room.
Review 32:When making reservations online I stated that there would be (2) adults and (1) 17 year old. The price given was $86 plus any taxes. Upon check in I was charged $10 extra for my 17 year old. Had I known that I would of searched online for another hotel.
Review 33:Loved the town of Williams.
Review 34:Hotel floors were dirty, linens were not fresh , pillows were thin and hard ,toilet broken ,hair dryer outlet broken in both rooms. Outside light was bright and shining into windows until 11:00 PM.
Review 35:Hotel is within walking distance of breakfast place
Review 36:Very convenient to Grand Canyon. The owners take pride in keeping the facility clean and in good working order. We loved the themed touch for each room !! We had Clint Eastwood !! Thank You
Review 37:Upon checking in I was charged an extra $60 ( $10/per night/ per child) when I make reservations I always include number of people (4) so I was really annoyed and felt like I was being fleeced. The rooms are extremely small. I will not use this place again not will I ever recommend it.
Review 38:Much too expensive compared with its service. The price is twice as much as Hilton! No microwave as promosed. Very very poor breakfast but ask for tip! Wifi is never possible. It took us more than 15 minutes to check in. It was the worst during our trip.
Review 39:Very old and just seemed so dated. Bedspreads were frumpy and sink had permanent stains on it. The TV had very poor reception even though it was Direct TV.
Review 40:None
Review 41:Bathroom has been remodeled. It's neat. The room has everything you need, e.g. Refrigerator, microwave and direct tv. Beside coffee, they also offer chocolate. We'll recommend our friend.
Review 42:They need to update their bedding including pillows.
Review 43:Small motel. Layed back. Outside table and chairs to set and watch people. Parking right out our door. No stairs. Very quite. Really close to all stores etc. In town. Just don't go to the restaurant next door
Review 44:Full size beds and a small room. Funky decor. But mostly it was chosen by U.S. Because of the backstory of Belgians buying this motel and we were disappointed.
Review 45:I liked the price. I thought the choice of burgundy towels was nice. I was glad for the fridge and microwave.
Review 46:Room extremely small, no closet, just hooks on the wall for hanging clothes. Tub drained slow, hodge podge furniture, (not even iconic for Route 66 theme.)
Review 47:Great location, friendly staff
Review 48:Despite the high price we had to pay the room was small and smelt musty. There was an old gas heater with dusty vents which could not be controlled and was therefore on permanently. There was no Carbon Monoxide alarm/monitor despite this, only the back panel of one - very disconcerting. The A/C was above the window - we had to stand on the bed to adjust it which was very unsafe. The sink was old, badly stained and chipped and generally pretty disgusting. The loo seat was loose - surely housekeeping notice these sorts of things and report them to maintenance? Very unhappy with our stay. No breakfast on offer - other establishments nearby had breakfast. I wished we'd booked somewhere else.
Review 49:The location - that's about all.
Review 50:There was a kitchenette but no pots/pans so it couldn't be used. The shower temperature fluctuated from very hot to cold.
Review 51:Williams is a nice little town with a number of restaurant options and a large supermarket. 1hr10 drive to the Grand Canyon. Comfortable room of reasonable size.
Review 52:It just was to much money for that Motel. We have stayed in other Motels and Hotels for half the cost and they had much more to offer. Again I will say 178.00 was way out of line. I already told my friends not to even look at this Motel because of the cost.
Review 53:Air conditioner that u had no acess to. It was high up near the ceiling. If it was on, you had to want 60 degrees. Cheap, nasty bedding. No rug ob the floor. Paper pictures on walls. Cheap shampoo. The room just felt dirty.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:The room was clean, quiet, warm, and it did not have 40-year-old carpets. It's a perfect place to stay if you're going to the Grand Canyon, and it's right in the center of town.
Review 56:Switched rooms for us when realized I didn't book a room with two beds. Extremely friendly and courteous in a nice little town. Highly recommended!
Review 57:The cleanliness was OI at most
Review 58:The location was great, only 45 min drive to Grand Canyon. The town Williams is a great town to spend one or two nights.
Review 59:The mattress and pillows could be more comfortable but I think that is mostly because I have gotten use to my mattress. It was somewhat difficult to regulate the temperature of the room. We had the heat and the AC on at the same time to keep a comfortable temperature and have circulation in the room. Over all it was great place for location and price.
Review 60:Staff was great. Location was great. The town of Williams is so cute and had great tourist shopping and great restaurants. This hotel was perfect for the classic Route 66 Stay. The staff was very nice and the hotel room was clean.
Review 61:Bath tub not clean enough and coffee mugs not clean. Trains in the city wake everybody up twice a night. Price too expensive for the value and only justified by location and in comparison of other motels nearby.
Review 62:Friendly staff. Location within reach of Grand Canyon.
Review 63:Room a tad on the small side. Breakfast not so great, packaged pastries and bottled orange juice but I wasn't counting on it so it didn't really matter.
Review 64:Good value for money. Clean and functional Location is great. Right next to all the attractions in Williams which are plenty. Close to restaurants. Great proximity to Grand Canyon (60 miles) with the train station right there. Would stay there again.
Review 65:The Highlander has undergone a renovation. I have stayed there a number of times and the renovation is wonderful! Rooms are small but very clean. And you can park your car right outside your door!
Review 66:Very accommodating when requesting adjoining rooms - the young girl working the desk was very pleasant! Also loved the western/woodburned furniture in the room. Very clean!
Review 67:Greek restaurant next door very expensive.
Review 68:Prompt check in- nice clean room - looked newly decorated- just right pillow top mattress - quiet. Very pleased. thank you
Review 69:Day manager was a little stiff and formal. No place to sit down and relax. The bed is on casters, lead against the wall (no headboard) and the bed moves.
Review 70:Evening manager was very nice and helpful. Room was decent, but not for a long stay, small with nothing more than bed and TV.
Review 71:The website is not accurate. There are new or newer owners that are not who is on the website.
Review 72:The owner was great and very accommodating. We were there 2 nights and were very pleased.
Review 73:Staff was very friendly, he told us best things to do there. He was very intimate and nice person . Wifi was very good. Room was clean and heater was very good and quiet. I felt very happy there.
Review 74:That we didn't get in until 4am and staff was calling at 8am to collect payment. That to me was odd since I booked with a cc. We weren't planning to wake that early.
Review 75:Very good location.
Review 76:Heat had been turned off but staff took care of it immediately. Also, although the shower had great water pressure I'd recommend replacing the shower head with an up to date model.
Review 77:Older style motel has been cleanly remodeled with engineered wood floors (no ratty carpeting) and some colorful decorating. The bed was one of the more comfortable on my trip.
Review 78:The heating system make some noise.
Review 79:Rooms are big enough, comfortable, individually decorated. Staff was nice. The town is small, easy to walk around. Good base for visiting the Grand Canyon NP (about 1h drive).
Review 80:The furnace actually pops and bangs when heating and cooling off. It really makes you jump if your not expecting it. The pillow case had holes that was stitched close. They should have been replaced. Microwave was dirty, and the outside lights kept the room lit up at night even with the curtains closed.
Review 81:The location was great, the owner was super nice, good wifi service, fridge in room, hot water.
Review 82:nothing
Review 83:Have been there now twice (once during snowstorm) and stayed both times in the same room.great room, nice staffs, enough heating possibilities, good price.
Review 84:The bed was not comfortable, hard as a rock.
Review 85:This motel was very cozy. It was clean and the staff was friendly. It was really cold when we were there , but the heater in the room worked great. It was a very basic room , but it was as expected and the price was nice. My favorite thing was the location . The motel was within walking distance of almost every thing in town, restaurants, gift shops, grocery store and train station.
Review 86:Room was small, very simple, felt a bit like sleeping in a garage. Looked clean. Cool thing: it was near Route 66. Off topic: The owner recommended us the Pine Country for dinner/breakfast, but their food is average... But if you want a good pie, definitely go there :)
Review 87:We were the only guests at the hotel (early January). Although that isn't the fault of the hotel, it had a 'closed' feeling - unmanned reception and the hotel sign unlit.
Review 88:The room facilities and two comfortable beds.
Review 89:I do not have any real complaints about this Motel, I thought it was a very good value and was priced appropriately. The only complaint that I did have was that I tried to book a room using the motel's web page but never received a call back. I tried to call the front desk to book the rooms and was referred to the internet. I finally made the booking on Booking.com and requested two adjoining rooms and received two adjoining rooms as requested.
Review 90:The room was comfortable and the gas wall furnace provided plenty of heat for the 12' x 12' room, on the night we stayed the overnight temperatures were well below 20 degrees. The rooms were nicely furnished and with the exception of a couple of smudges on the wall were very clean. The beds were not a full queen, but were between a queen and full size; the rooms are a bit on the small size so do not expect to be able to put someone on the floor for the night, there's not enough room. Other than that it was a nice quiet hotel and would be suitable for a 1 to 3 night stay. The staff was very pleasant and I would not hesitate to stay there again. Although this motel was built in the 1950's the rooms appeared to be in very good repair.
Review 91:My bothers and I stayed for one night and my parents stayed for two nights while they were waiting for us to come back from a hike down to the Colorado River at the Grand Canyon. The check out time was supposed to be at 10 am, but the hotel staff entered into my parents room at 8:15 am when they were still on bed. Also my parents were a little late with the check out and the motel staff entered again to their room close to 11 am and found my mother naked. After all, my parents try to leave their baggage at the reception of the mother (while walking around the town waiting for us to arrive), and they refused to keep it a couple of hours for them. So they had to walk around the town with their baggage from 11 am to 2:30 pm when we arrive.
Review 92:The motel is well located, close to restaurants, stores .... The heat works pretty well.
Review 93:My parents (on their 7+) were staying one more night while we were camping at the Grand Canyon. The check out time (10:00) was strict and end up with numerous uncomfortable interruptions between 10:00-11:00. When my my parents finally left they were not allowed to leave their luggage for a couple of hours and had to stay in a coffee house while we arrived a few hours letter. In addition the bed linen was old and extremely ware out!
Review 94:There was nothing particularity wrong with this motel but it is definitely seen better days. It is old, tired and uninspiring in any way. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. That said it was pretty expensive for a very ordinary and fairly small room. Fine for night's sleep but nothing more....
Review 95:It was cold in Williams that week, and beds only had faded, worn bed spreads. I had to fold one in half to stay warm. They could have provided at least an additional blanket.
Review 96:The price, and the themed rooms. I had the Marilyn Monroe room. I also enjoyed the tea selection in the rooms and the complementary water and juice.
Review 97:The owners great attitude and pride of taking care of his motel and guests. He really goes out of his way to make your stay pleasant. All rooms were upgraded and extremely clean. A bit on the small side but you come knowing that and is nothing the owner can do about it other than make it clean, comfortable and upgraded.
Review 98:Very friendly owner. This is not a fancy room at all but it was really clean and quite satisfactory to leave us rested to drive the last leg up to the Grand Canyon in the morning. I would really suggest spending at least two nights because that town is so nice and also to visit Bearizona wildlife park there.
Review 99:No heat in room -- electric heater wasn't working and mgm. was off duty before we realized the problem. If you're no taller than 5', the bathroom facilities would be OK. Very low mirrors, sink, shower head, etc. My husband is 6'2" and he had to kneel down to shave! Everything is very dated & used. Won't even consider Highlander if we're passing through Williams again.
Review 100:Good location
Review 101:- Bedspread (no problem with cleanliness though) - Wall-to-wall carpet (no problem with cleanliness though) - No good place to sit down with your laptop
Review 102:- Location within Williams - Easy parking in front of the room - 1 story building - Late check-in (10 PM) - Complimentary drinks at reception
Review 103:Friendly check-in staff - helpful advice for dining out. Comfortable beds - spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Soundproof walls - interesting décor. All within easy walking distance to explore the town of Williams.
Review 104:Breakfast was a stale cold wrapped Otis Spunkmeyer muffin and a smallbottle of Sunny Delight juice, available only after 8 am. Breakfastshould be discounted if considering this motel. There is a very goodrestaurant next door, much in contrast to most of the eatingestablishments in Williams (50s retro diners, steak houses and saloons).
Review 105:The motel has twelve units with all doors facing on the parking lot. Youcan park directly in front of your room. The room has all the minimal amenities in good working order, though the wall heater was a bit slow to respond and the bathroom tub tap tended to drip. Furniture is a simple unique rough pine design. Overall, a good value for the money. On the night we stayed there, it was one of the few motels in Williams near full capacity, even though it has only 12 rooms, largely because of workmen working elsewhere out of the motel.
Review 106:Rooms are clean and comfortable but don't expect the Ritz. That said it would lose some of It's charm as a Route 66 motel if it was.
Review 107:We stayed here on a trip to the Grand Canyon and it was exactly what you want from a motel. It's much cheaper than staying at the Grand Canyon, and only an hour drive away. On top of that it's in a great little town which is perfect for Route 66 enthusiasts. The owner was a nice guy and gave me lots of helpful info too.
Review 108:Everything was great.
Review 109:Walked to the Grand Canyon Railroad, proprietor was super nice, rooms were clean, restaurant right next door, Safeway half-a- block away. Would stay there again.
Review 110:Clean, good beds/good sleep. Away (but not too far) from the commercial area so quiet. Manager (owner?) David was very pleasant and helpful. Fun old place on a Route 66!!
Review 111:Our tub/shower was full of hair when we arrived. (the next day it was much cleaner), Our ice bucket had some kind of ?? food or bugs in it that were moldy. And the ice machine didn't work one of the days. One of our beds was comfortable memory foam type, but the other one was a bit rickety and uncomfortable matress. We had a bed stand, and coffee table, but no actual table with a chair or two to sit at to read or look up things to do/places to go, on our laptop. You either had to sit on a bed, or go outside, but wifi was a bit sketchy outside, and weather wasn't always conducive to do so.
Review 112:I like old fashioned motels. A grocery store was very near by. I liked the tables and chairs outside in front of each room. Great location for walking to things, yet far enough away from noisy bar areas. Desk staff made good recommendations on places to eat, and had some coupons. Very cute older motel. **On an interesting note, it seemed that we were "visited" by a spirit of some sorts on our final night there. It even appeared to move one of the beds! We didn't feel scared, seemed harmless.
Review 113:It doesn't make a good first impression, but you get used to it. The wi-fi was very slow.
Review 114:Room was clean, with a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. Plenty of restaurants and a big grocery store within walking distance. One of the cheapest places to stay in Williams. A perfectly fine place to stay for 1 or 2 nights.
Review 115:Small, but clean and hotel personnel were very friendly and accommodating. If I get to the area again, wouldn't hesitate to stay there! Very Happy and was well rested!
Review 116:Very small room for 2people. No point in having cooker, nothing to use it with. Air con to noisy to use at night. Dark room.
Review 117:Pine country res. food very good.
Review 118:terrible sheets, though clean were clingy, sure they were not cotton. Decor dated overpriced for what was provided. For what was an oringinal route 66 hotel was disappointing
Review 119:location and good parking
Review 120:Clean, newly remolded motel. Good Value. Nothing fancy, but a good nights rest and clean bathrooms/bedrooms. Proprietor very accommodating. TV, refrig, coffee maker.
Review 121:Wifi down for the whole evening we arrived, although they were diligently trying to get it up and running again. Disappointed to find one small hair clinging to the insides of each of the "clean" coffee cups on the sink. Otherwise, the room felt clean.
Review 122:For an inexpensive no frills place, I really enjoyed this motel. Comfortable beds, simple & stylish decor, and loved having a mini fridge! Office staff super friendly and helpful with dining options and Grand Canyon tips. We'd totally stay here again!
Review 123:Very uncomfortable beds. The noisy fridge at night The carpet was too dark to see how clean it was. Same with the courtains. Check out time is at 9:30-10am ? That's crazy ! They charge a lot for what they offer. Internet super slow.
Review 124:The location
Review 125:bathroom looked out of place. there was stale smell (thankfully not stinking). there are better hotels for the price we paid. we wanted to cancel one day of rental and we were told "it is up to booking.com". called booking.com and they told "it was up to hotel" we got sent back and forth mutiple times. it was obvious the hotel did not want to give us our money back
Review 126:location. availability of room
Review 127:No sink inside the bathroom, it was strange to use kitchen sink to wash hands and brush teeth.
Review 128:Well located, small but clean room. Small kitchen with microwave and fridge. Staff is friendly and efficient.
