Reviews for A Swan Nest Inn
Review 1:very limited choice for breakfast especially if you are diabetic, had to ask if they had bread for toast.
Review 2:the rooms are very nice with the hand made beds by the owner, use of the kitchen to cook own food and fridge space for food if staying for a week or so. the home made breads for breakfast are excellent.
Review 3:Very thin walls and could hear people walking around, little noises from everything. But overall a great place and would recommend to others.
Review 4:Great food, great bed, great location! Brooke's fresh baked scones were amazing.
Review 5:None
Review 6:I ordered this hotel for a group trip, and it's great! I really like the girl who was in charge the cleanness, she was smiling all the time and made our cooking as easily as we could. Also she wrote down perfect place for us to watch hamback whale! Very enjoyable talking people like she was! ( and her cutie--dog)
Review 7:No reading light or clock. Flat pillows. Because this is an old hotel, privacy & soundproofing is not as good as modern places.
Review 8:Great downtown location. Very clean.
Review 9:The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the whole atmosphere of the place is very laid back. The view of Resurrection Bay from the window was great. Homemade pastries with wild berries for breakfast were delicious.
Review 10:The breakfast wasn't that great. Cut up fruit and a fruity bread that was dry. Stairs are steep, staff helped us carry in our luggage though. We didn't mind the steps.
Review 11:Comfortable room, great location, close to shops in Seward and the waterfront. Walking distance to the harbor. Quiet, homey, friendly, several guests brought their dogs & they were accepted as part of the clientele.
Review 12:The owners were not friendly. The staff made it clear from check in that they wanted money tips to fund their own trips! These same employees did nothing to inspire me to give them any money tips! The mattress was so bad that an old back injury was aggravated. My husband had to make his own coffee while an employee flirted with a younger patron. Breakfast was non existent so don't call yourself a bed and breakfast if you charge extra to cook breakfast. The rooms were so small that I felt like I was in a boat cabin.
Review 13:I liked the location since you could walk easily from there to downtown. I liked the outdoor space and use of a firepit. I liked the cleanliness.
Review 14:The breakfast was minimal and not delicious- could order eggs and potatoes with breakfast meats but this is extra, serving was slow as there were several who ordered at the same time.
Review 15:The Swans Nest was close to the bus line, was a cute comfortable room, clean and quiet. The staff made us feel at home, stored our luggage for us until departure on our cruise and helped us with questions about the town.
Review 16:The mattress in room #2 needs to be replaced. It was not comfortable. The handmade bed frame had a dangerous corner that I had to beware of. Since the hotel is on the 2nd floor, it was not so good for my husband with bad knees.
Review 17:The location was very good for us.
Review 18:The room was way too small, could barely walk around the bed and open a small suitcase. The place needs some renovation and it looks pretty bad from the outside. No elevator and steep stairs to carry the luggage.
Review 19:The location is good to explore the city on foot. Breakfast is ok and the common areas are pretty cozy.
Review 20:Slow wifi... Also it is expensive for what it is - but I guess that's just Seward prices!
Review 21:Best location in downtown Seward - a short stroll from all the tour companies which is handy for "check in" times before starting a tour. Nice view of the bay from the window. Low key staff. Quaint and cosy b&b vibe. Yummy breakfast goodies cooked up fresh every morning.
Review 22:We loved the inn! The host was really welcoming, friendly and communicated with us throughout the trip. Friendly atmosphere and great breakfast, awesome recommendations for things to do and places to see. We will be back!
Review 23:We were pretty surprised to find that our room for four adults consisted of a double bed and a ladder up to a small loft with another bed. Fortunately some in our group were OK with going up there to sleep!
Review 24:Sarah was great! She got us in to our rooms early, was cheerful and friendly, and gave good advice about the Seward area.
Review 25:Trying to store suitcases and stuff for a family of 4 was a bit tight.
Review 26:Wonderful staff with the gift of great hospitality! We felt very welcome to enjoy all that the Swan's Nest had to offer.
Review 27:It was off the main hyway and hard to find. We left to go to town to do an activity @about 8am. Would have been nice to had coffee and slight eats... Toast, fruit, .....0
Review 28:Very quite, nice helpful people, had use of washer and dryero
Review 29:Of the 8 places we stayed while in Alaska, the bed here was the least comfortable. Not terrible just old school motel style.
Review 30:Loved Brook! She was personable, helpful and just nice. Breakfast was tasty. Liked being in the downtown area rather than the marina area.
Review 31:The room was dark with only a tiny window. When you looked outside you saw scaffolding and another building that I think you could have touched.
Review 32:The hostess was excellent. Always had breakfast ready and waiting Very informed on the area.
Review 33:Would have liked to have known that the loft isn't suitable for older people. Need to know that there are not 2 beds available in main room for traveling friends. Also NOISY
Review 34:5pm check in & 10am checkout. made morning feel a bit rushed (eat and run). maybe they want that?
Review 35:location, view, free parking (1 block from groovy part of town), cute little euro style room.
Review 36:Paper thin walls so you hear everything and there is no elevator, only an outside staircase and all rooms are on the second floor.
Review 37:It had a rustic almost hostel feel. Friendly staff and dog.
Review 38:The outside belied what was inside. Rustic, hand made furniture from driftwood and recycled wood done to a high standard in this old heritage building. Lovely, cosy, comfy and very friendly, helpful staff.
Review 39:Room was quite small, but manageable.
Review 40:Location in downtown area near restaurants, sea life center and fjord waterfront. Shuttle stop two blocks away. Very clean, quiet, both guests and staff were very friendly.
Review 41:We were staying longer than most of the guests, yet had the worst room, we learned. Our room was poorly arranged, with a low loft over the bed and a ceiling fan beyond the foot so no benefit. The fan also was pull string operated which also turned on a set of lights that could not be operated separately so if you wanted air movement at night, you had to have lights burning at the foot of the bed. The only bedroom window faced a wall, but worse, it had no screen so ventilation meant bugs. Left side of bed had very narrow access.
Review 42:Location in old town.
Review 43:The owners and staff run a comfortable, well-oiled operation here and at other properties within walking distance. Personal, "boutique" feel to this small B&B. As noted by others, the only drawback is the size of the rooms. But who travels to stay in the room? Seward is awesome.
Review 44:Paper thin walls. Small, but interestingly decorated rooms.
Review 45:Extremely friendly, helpful staff. Convenient, downtown location walking distance to everything
Review 46:We liked the staff, friendly and helpful. This Inn is for those who don't need a concierge or constant attendance, the rooms had a truly Alaskan flavor small but comfortable. The owners were very friendly and easy to talk to.
Review 47:Run-down place! Not upkept and poor maintenance. Booking.com rating score is not accurate! I rated everything poor and it still show a score of 2.5!
Review 48:The staff is friendly.
Review 49:A little noisy from late-night guest check-in and early morning street traffic for light sleepers.
Review 50:Our host Sarah was awesome, the breakfast delicious and the view as we dined was fabulous!!!
Review 51:I enjoyed the history of the building, the gift of seeing the bay from my room and the warm, friendly service as well as the privacy. The location was a great suprise. Good walk to every where in Seward I needed to go, such as Library, Museum, Sea Life Center and the Bay.
Review 52:Fairly expensive but seemed in line with other area B&B's. Breakfast was OK but simple. I did see others catered to more at breakfast - our problem for not asking.
Review 53:Owners are great. Very friendly and accommodating. Location was super convenient for us.
Review 54:Managers child runing around like wild man when we checked in, even went into our rooms. My room next to managers residence was noisey during the day,
Review 55:Nice location breakfast very good. Excellent sourdough pancakes.
Review 56:The size of the room and the entrance stairs. The stairs would have been OK if we had know ahead of time. Not good for a recent total hip or knee patient.
Review 57:Location and staff were excellent. Walking distance to the ocean, museum and Sea Life Center. The staff really have it down - always willing without hovering.
Review 58:The male owner came off as arrogant and condescending, thin walls, canhear people snoring in room next to us. Breakfast is subpar. Do notrecommend. This is a hostel at B&B prices.
Review 59:The young girl who worked there was the bright spot of the staff. Thelocation is excellent.
Review 60:Loved the location, easy to find, great views of the ocean. Room was comfortable, big bathroom, interior was cozy and rustic looking (in a good way). Staff was fantastic, very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast provided.
Review 61:Having to leave!
Review 62:This B&B is fantastic. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is excellent, the rooms and the dining area with large sunny picture windows is beautiful. The staff made us feel at home and were very helpful with local information, suggestions and tour advice.
Review 63:1. Rooms are all in the second floor and there is no elevators to carry luggages. 2. They don't clean the room while you stay. 3. Breakfast time ends at 9am. 4. No sound proof. We can hear clearly people talk in the dinning area and noises from neighbor rooms.
Review 64:Interior design and two layers in one room is good for families with kids. A kitchen to use any time.
Review 65:I cannot think of anything to put in this side of the review!
Review 66:My 14 year old grandson enjoyed the loft, while I enjoyed the comfort in the large bed right next to the bathroom. The common room (breakfast room) was great for relaxing and meeting new folks. I especially liked Tom's use of driftwood in the furniture and decorations.
Review 67:The staff were very nice and friendly. They took care of our every need. The breakfast room was great for wi fi and meeting other travelers. The bed and food were excellent.
Review 68:Common space was just outside our door. Some guests were very loud but they observed the quiet time and stopped at 10p.
Review 69:Very clean, centrally located, good views, great breakfast, and good value.
Review 70:There wasn't a thing I could complain about. Honestly, the only disappointing thing was that I wasn't staying longer!
Review 71:I loved everything about this place, but let me start at the beginning: I am a 20something female, who ended her Alaska adventure with a solo jaunt to Seward to see the sea life! I called the Inn the day before I arrived to ask if I could drop off my luggage off before check-in (I'd been backpacking in Denali with friends.), which they were more than happy to allow. When I got there (a very easy walk from the train station), not only could I drop off my luggage - I could check-in! Sarah greeted me like a friend and showed me around, making sure I knew where all the common areas were. Sarah and Tom helped me out and had my whale-watching tour pick me up from the Inn, so I didn't have to haul all my gear across town again. I didn't even realize the tour did this. Tom and Sarah told me about it and then they called for me! And made sure I knew that the tour would check my luggage for me too. They gave me recommendations for lunch and supper and directions to the SeaLife Center. The recommendations were superb! It was so nice that they both chatted with me a bit and just asked how the trip was going - It made me feel like I was staying with friends, which was awesome since I was traveling alone. The room was fantastic. Clean. HUGE. (It had a loft with two twin beds, plus the bed below.) Enormous bathroom. Bed was so comfy and clean (and not just because I'd been sleeping on the ground for a week beforehand)! Then for breakfast Sarah made two kinds of breads. She also made me eggs and sourdough pancakes! (She was whipping up pretty much whatever any guest asked for.) And it was all so good!! And there was coffee, juice, tea and cocoa out, so you have whatever you wished to drink. I just can't say enough about how wonderful this place was - When I get back to Seward, I'm going to have to stay here again!
Review 72:Very noisy as a family of small kids were making a racket. Staff not very friendly. Old worn out bath towels. Did not meet our expectations as a B & B.
Review 73:Location
Review 74:Unique facilities in the heart of downtown Seward. The lofts offer a great options for families, with a small all - enclosed room. The space did show its age, and the beds weren't the most comfortable. The free wifi was adequate for checking email, and that was about it. The hotel offered Netflix in the common room, but it was unwatchable due to slow connection and buffering issues. The real highlight of the stay was the warm reception from the owners, and the fresh cooked to order breakfast.
Review 75:NOTHING
Review 76:Everything! We wanted to go back there on our trip and cancel other locations, they were full. It is not a surprise to me. Everyone who works there and the owners make you feel at home and the breakfasts, WOW, Sarah makes them to order. Her son, Sammy, became our friend. Would love to go back!
Review 77:Nice location. Next to downtown, sea life center, library, and nice park for the kids next to water. Manager was great and friendly. Great breakfast to start day.
Review 78:Great value for the money, especially during high season. Tidy, charming room. Easy check-in/out. Great location. Owner/Manager (Sara) is a fantastic host and a heck of a good cook.
Review 79:There was anyone when I arrived there, I needed to call them (by atelephone located there). Quite small room.
Review 80:Beautiful room and view from the window. Good breakfast.
Review 81:The room was dark and musty. The bed was uncomfortable.
Review 82:Host was helpful and friendly. Location was good, right in town near the Aquarium. Breakfast has a good choice- they cooked us eggs and pancakes.
Review 83:Loved it all - I'm a small is beautiful kind of gal, so for others the shipshape size of room and bathroom might be a concern. For our family of 4 (with twin 17 year old big guys) it worked fine and was a most memorable stay
Review 84:Unique lodging that was as cozy as a nest! Loved the workmanship and.artistic details of our room. Sarah and Andrea were as welcoming as a good relative; cooked breakfast to order with homemade scones and bread that made us want to linger even though the beautiful day was beckoning.
Review 85:Small room, shower was hard to get the right temperature. A bit expensive for the type of property but in comparison to other properties fair.
Review 86:Staff and breakfast. It was walking distance to historic Seward.
Review 87:Later in the evening (about 9:30 pm) there was a lot of opening and closing (slamming) of doors. There was a child that was quite loud and crying in the next room. Fortunately, it only lasted about 1/2 hr or so. The walls were pretty thin (noise-wise)
Review 88:Cute, clean, friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast and beautiful view
Review 89:Never met the owners. No hot breakfast Fitted sheets did not stay on the bed Breakfast was suppose to be from 6:00 till 9:00. We were in the breakfast room at 7:00 the last day we were there & there was no breakfast at all. No coffee pot, no t. V. In the room. Other than the private bath, they should have charged Hostel prices. Traveled in Alaska for a month, & it was the worst B&B we stayed in.
Review 90:stairs if we had to carry our heavy luggage but we worked if out so we didn't need luggage for the 1 night
Review 91:comfortable bed, freedom of kitchen, coffee, friendliness of staff, privacy of room, openess of dining room .We were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations...better than expected.
Review 92:Can't think of anything at the moment, we were just lucky to get the room so definitely nothing disliked.
Review 93:The place was amazing and felt so comfortable. My wife and I were so lucky that someone cancelled right before I booked the room. The gluten free bread for my wife that can't eat gluten was definitely a awesome plus. I would definitely recommend this place to other couples that want to get their money worth.
