Reviews for River Rock Inn
Review 1:We were there during Christmas when it was snowing/freezing. The floor is tile with no rugs so the plug heater provided in room was not adequate for our comfort. Bathroom was freezing. I imagine that during Summer, the shaded rooms, tile floors and cool looking ceiling fan help keep it cool, but the room is definitely not cold- weather friendly.
Review 2:Friendly guy(Adam) that checked us in. Easy to get to. Clean and good price. Loved the berries(they were gorgeous) and fruit provided for breakfast. The lady that checked us out, was kind enough to come out with a cup of warm water to pour on our frozen windshield while we were sitting in parking lot. Unfortunately my windshield wipers weren't completely turned off and after a long pause, they splashed water on this kind lady. I commend her for not cussing us out but just walking away. If she reads this, please accept my apology and again thank you for coming to our assistance without us asking. You are awesome!
Review 3:The billing experience was terrible. The hotel wasn't sure if I had paid them or not (crazy!) and told me that they would call me to collect my money after my stay if they didn't have it. A total run around.
Review 4:The electricity kept going out on a cold night when the propane heater already had pilot problems so the portable electric heater was the only source of warmth. That's a facility problem that's going to be expensive but vital to fix. The tiny shower stall had a steeply sloping tiny-tile floor, therefore good drainage but slightly tricky footing for an old person. The TV (DishTV, I think) picture was a bit dim.
Review 5:The tiny room was classily remodeled, ceiling whitewashed wood, floor (cold) stone, good (worn) furniture, decorations two excellent prints and one mediocre painting. It was spartan--no phone, hair dryer, etc., but no less than I needed, clean and pretty to look at. The bed was wonderfully comfy. The shower was strong and hot. The location was quiet and off the main street though a block from downtown. The manager was hardworking and helpful.
Review 6:Rooms basic but clean and comfortable.
Review 7:Located in lovely town, really nice cafe/deli attached to Inn. Reasonable travelling distance to Yosemite. Seating area outside so able to relax in the sunshine
Review 8:Rooms a bit small and dark but value for money in this area
Review 9:Great location ..loved mariposa in its own right and nice drive to Yosemite .. Lovely terrace to sit out in .. Great sandwiches from deli
Review 10:Change the Golden Gate Bridge Orange walls to something a little brighter, the room is very dark, rustic fixtures and fittings, a little bit basic for the price
Review 11:Nice friendly welcome and the lady upgraded us as we were staying two nights.
Review 12:There was a little smell in our room. And the door between bedroom and bathroom needs to be fix. Room 8
Review 13:Location was easy to find. The room was very nice. Breakfast was outstanding! (Best and healthiest during our 2 weeks trip). The owner and staff were kind and ready to help. It's a pity that our English is not enough to communicate properly. And sandwiches are must buy and try!
Review 14:The bed was a little hard. My partner has a bad back and woke up stiff. Also a high price for a small, simple room. I see that later in the season price on Booking.com drops to $60/night. I think we paid $135.
Review 15:Cozy, clean room, simple and pleasant. Right next to the main street so easy walk to restaurants. Nice, quiet patio to enjoy the evening. Jill and staff were super thoughtful to leave a bottle of wine (it was my partner's birthday) and sandwiches as we had requested in fridge for the next day's lunch.
Review 16:Overall, it was extremely expensive, because on top of the initial price (which is high to begin with) there was an obligatory tip which amounts to a lot because it's a hotel and not a restaurant expense. It was a first time that the tip was obligatory in a hotel, so we were taken aback.
Review 17:The place was really charming, with a very romantic and old-fashioned atmosphere, the furniture was quaint and the staff was very kind and friendly.
Review 18:As we were checking in, the owner, Jill, was gathering her crew, closing shop and heading to the fairgrounds to tackle the task of making 4000 lunches for the firefighters battling the Valley fire, was sooo impressed with that!!
Review 19:There's no protein (other than milk) at breakfast, even though they have eggs visible in the refrigerated case. Not their fault, but the air was quite smoky from the forest fires in the area.
Review 20:A convenient jumping off spot for Yosemite and other spots in the Sierras. The property is kinda old, but that adds to its funky charm. There were good restaurants within walking distance.
Review 21:Leaving...
Review 22:Jill the owner is awesome! She's a lovely person and really makes you feel at home. The patio area was wonderful and watching the humming birds was a real treat.
Review 23:the staff & facilities were great. The fresh breakfast was fantastic & after weeks of eating fatty foods, fresh & healthy food is exactly what we needed.
Review 24:No fridge or microwave. Office/deli closed at weekends (only opens for breakfast). It says you can check in from 3 until 11, but the office/deli closes at 3, so you will find a note with your room number and the keys in the door. Hot rooms and a bit dusty. Wifi connection very bad in rooms and TV not great. A/C very noisy. This place needs a good renovation.
Review 25:Great location! Nice staff.
Review 26:It was the most expensive room of all the accommodations in our West Coast round trip, even more than in SF and LA! And, unfortunately, our experience was not positive at all. Firstly, outside the room, under one of the windows, there was placed an A/C machine with a terrific noise when working. Imagine... not an ideal way to spend one relax night in Mariposa. Furthermore, in front of the door, there was also a container full of rubbish with flies everywhere. On the other hand, the breakfast was completely insufficient, just muffins, cereals, coffee or tea. More than this, it's been our first hotel in the States where they required us a tip! What kind of service did they think that they were providing to us which really deserves a tip? Well, let's see! There wasn't a 24h front desk (if any), our check-in was done by ourselves and the reception/coffee bar was closed all the day, so nobody was working. Only the staff for the breakfast, but not enough to improve such a terrible service during our stay. Although we paid the tip, actually I should have asked for a room price reduction due to all the inconveniences.
Review 27:A genuine motel in a beautiful town, good room with fridge provided, very convenient stop in our way to Yosemite.
Review 28:Unusual configuration bathroom and toilet: toilet was at the end of the bathroom. No center light, lights were only near bed stand.
Review 29:Free breakfast, nice location in Mariposa center, spacious room
Review 30:The breakfast consisted of only very sugary things so it would be great to have some other alternatives.
Review 31:Lovely owner, incredibly friendly. We had live music on our first evening and even good free wine and cookies :-D Great base for exploring Yosemite from the west side.
Review 32:Nobody to greet us, just left they key in the room door.
Review 33:Small rooms as it is an historic property, but everything there. Very pleasant outside garden area.
Review 34:Jill is a great and friendship host and so are the girls helping her! They have a great patio to hang out at night, drink a beer and meet up with other guests.
Review 35:The bed was springy and not too comfortable but small price to pay for all the other great stuff.
Review 36:We were upgraded to a suite as one was free. So much space! The breakfast was amazing, the location was right in the centre of town and next to all the restaurants and a 1 minute walk to the yarts bus stop that takes you to Yosemite. The courtyard was great to have a couple drinks and dinner in at night.
Review 37:Greated by the owner. She truley wanted our stay to be comfortable and upgrade us to a suite. Each day she asked what we had done and our next plans, giving helpful tips and an amazing lunch for our hikes. You felt like part of the family.
Review 38:Great little motel that made an excellent base for exploring Yosemite. It's a bit of a drive to the park (an hour or so each way) but on the plus side, Mariposa is a great little town with lots of facilities and good eating and drinking places (shout out to 1850 restaurant and the Prospectors' Brewing Company!), making it a better bet than many of the more isolated accommodations closer to the park. Breakfast is good -nice granola with fresh fruit. Perhaps a little on the pricey side, but overall we'd happily stay here again!
Review 39:Our first night was awful! We were given the newly renovated room! Unfortunately the room was far from ready so between the problems with the toilet, an old electrical timer that chattered all night, hot water only in the vanity sink, no tea/coffee or refrigerator facilities, no smoke detectors, no heating or cooling other than being able to open a couple of windows a small way and no number on our door so late arriving guests were banging on our door wanting to checkin we had a very bad night! When we were moved to another room it still had no tea/coffee facilities!
Review 40:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The Wifi was very fast and being a small distance from the main road it was nice and quiet! Room was nice and clean.
Review 41:This is a great little motel to stay in for a visit to Yosemite. Don't be put off by the 40 miles to the park as Mariposa is a great place with plenty of high quality (and inexpensive) restaurants, and the drive in and out is very scenic. Good room, friendly staff and nice breakfast.
Review 42:Everything was great, except the comfort of the bed and pillows.
Review 43:we loved the staff - helpful and friendly. The room, cafe and grounds were clean and felt safe. The town is quaint, clean and everyone is so friendly. We loved hearing the neighbor's rooster in the morning!
Review 44:Nitpick: need microwave in room. Owners about to upgrade.
Review 45:Where do we start? 1. Historical value of property. 2. Price value is wonderful. 3. Cafe connected a gem/locals love it too. 4. New owner Jill so helpful with tips for local eats and sights. Fun interesting owner. 5. We SF Bay area visitors will now use south entrance to Yosemite because of River Rock Inn and Mariposa restaurants & sights 5.
Review 46:No complaints. It's a diff feel that's all.
Review 47:It's a small town of just 2000 people where most of them know each other. The lodging is in nice ambience with nearby hotels & gas stations. The stay was so comfortable with nice complimentary breakfast. The only thing is the restroom didn't have the lock when we went (hope they fixed now) so make sure you can sing, helps a lot!! :)
Review 48:It was cold in the room. The heater didn't keep it warm enough for me.
