Reviews for Jupiter Hotel

Review 1:Not a huge issue, but there was a slightly musty smell to the room when I checked in, and on the first night, my sheets smelled faintly of cigarettes.

Review 2:Very cool place, bed was comfortable and the staff was always extremely personable and helpful. The Doug Fir restaurant/lounge (attached to the hotel) was also great in terms of its look, staff, food and prices.

Review 3:Perhaps the sound proofing could be improved.

Review 4:Though there was a loud private party going on below, the hotel apologized and was fair in reducing the rate accordingly.

Review 5:the Doug Fir lounge next door was very loud Thu and Fri nights (Room 134). The tent outside all of the rooms was also loose and flapping in the wind (very loud). Even when they moved me to a new room for the Sat night (248), the tent woke me up several times. Not a pleasant stay, especially as I was there for business

Review 6:really friendly staff, great coffee, great furnishings

Review 7:The staff was so kind and courteous, especially when I came in at 9:45 at night, soaked and upset from walking in the rain. The staff really wanted to make sure everything was right.

Review 8:Wish the TVs were smart TVs, Netflix or HBO would be a bonus!

Review 9:We stayed here for our 5 year Anniversary, the staff was amazing and high fived us during our check-in. And then to top it off they had written Happy Anniversary on our door, nice touch!

Review 10:We would have loved assistance taking heavy luggage upstairs, and the dining area in the restaurant was too dark.

Review 11:We LOVED the staff. Great atmosphere, thanks so much.

Review 12:The maids can be quite noisy in the morning and seem to spend all day doing the rooms.

Review 13:The Doug fir lounge opposite is a great place for a quiet beer, the beds were comfy, rooms clean and showers decent.

Review 14:I did not like the bathrooms or the carpet- too scratchy.

Review 15:I liked the location of the motel and the staff was very friendly. Also, the courtyard was lovely.

Review 16:Not even a coat hanger for clothing. No fridge. Exteemly loud AC. Too cool for school staff. And the 8'x8' picture of John Lennon starring at you all night. Super over rated, trying to be hip hotel.

Review 17:The rooms were small, the air conditioning / heating unit was old and ridiculously loud. Its a dressed up 70s roadside motel, the bill came in to over 300 Canadian dollars. For what it was I thought it was way over priced.

Review 18:The staff were friendly and courteous.

Review 19:Thin walls and you can hear every movement above you. Some rooms are next to a pretty busy bar that shares a parking lot.

Review 20:Location is in a cool neighborhood. Place is pretty new and clean, but it's a motel style place, not hotel.

Review 21:the air-conditioning system is incredibly noisy, its impossible to open the window and people in the courtyard are way too noisy.

Review 22:Nice design and location

Review 23:The accommodations were a little sparse for the price, but that was also a function of the aforementioned great location.

Review 24:The staff were very friendly, the building itself a little funky (in a good way) and the proximity to a bunch of breweries, coffee shops and the rest of Portland was perfect. You could probably get by without it, but the parking was cheap enough to justify.

Review 25:We were warned about how loud it was, but it sounded like people were right outside of our door. Almost more like a hostel. The room was pretty small and dark, but we didn't spend much time in there so it was fine for us.

Review 26:Loved the feel of the hotel when you pull, reminded me of California and the art in the lobby is great. The location is fairly close to downtown, just a short 30 minute walk.

Review 27:I mean closet space would be nice or a place to stow luggage in the room so we aren't tripping over anything, but otherwise we had really great stay! :)

Review 28:the room was tiny and pretty basic but modern looking and clean. Loved the chalkboard walls, and the bed was comfy. It was also in a good location close to restaurants and just across the bridge from downtown.

Review 29:Converted motel has retro hipster vibe (bar/diner/lounge next door has good food and nightly music-indie rock), in a cool funky neighborhood with great shops, restaurants, brewery, pizza (Sizzle Pie!). Easy walk across bridge to downtown Portland (voodoo donuts, Powell bookstore, etc.). Great staff friendly, helpful. If your looking for the Ritz Carlton or Embassy suites, this ain't it. But if you're open to casual, not fussy, this is the place for you!

Review 30:Do not take your children to this hotel - the first thing they mightnotice is the two complementary colored condoms left for guests on thebed side table. Really low class. Half the hotel is exposed to a barthat operates in the hotel courtyard, and which rampages until very latein the evening - even with the earplugs that they provide in the room, you will have a hard time getting any sleep. Smokers in the courtyardcause the non-smoking rooms to be exposed to second-hand smoke. And theair conditioners are extremely loud. Oh, and the bathroom counter wasdirty when we checked in. In my opinion, this place is a terrible value, and I would never stay here again.

Review 31:Beds reasonably comfortable. Nice plush towels

Review 32:I'm considered a heavy sleeper, but I couldn't sleep during the night because the lounge downstair was extremely loud at night. The room has no soundproof at all!

Review 33:I like the design of the room especially the chalkboard on the door. The room is quite cleaned.

Review 34:Downfall of sound proof windows was that they didn't open and therefore had no air flow in the room. The A/C unit was the key, but pretty lame if you don't like using A/C in the first place.

Review 35:Location to the Doug Fir is pretty awesome. Even the noise coming from the venue wasn't too bad considering it is super close. The hotel has installed sound proof windows.

Review 36:Very loud till 4am every night. Drunk brawl woke me up at 6am.

Review 37:Loved the Jupiter hotel. Close to so much to do. Great staff and rooms were very cool. The only thing is it is totally a party hotel, spring break every night. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the patio bar.

Review 38:No recommendation here. Immediate damp/mildew odor when we opened door to room. The entire room stunk. Bedding as well. Called and was told no other rooms were available, even though this reservation was made at least a month in advance. Parking fee of ten dollars was waived and told "maybe" a free breakfast, which never happened. At check out we were given a very ingenuine and sarcastic apology and another ten dollars was removed (Portland tax) hah! If you would not like to smell like a wet dog. Do not stay here.

Review 39:The room had a strong smell to humidity. The first day of our stay the room was not cleaned at all since we did not place a door message asking to clean the room. We thought is policy to have the room cleaned whether or not you place the message in the door.

Review 40:Staff was friendly and helpful. The parking lot was full when we arrived and one of the staff members offered to leave the spot he was using for us to park.

Review 41:The modern funky aesthetic is cool, and part of the draw, but also leaves room feeling a bit spartan. But once you settle in, it's fine.

Review 42:Location is great: makes it easy to get around town, and having the Doug Fir next door made for easy access to a good show and snack and drinks after. Staff are friendly and helpful, and rooms are memorable and functional.

Review 43:The room walls and ceiling are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING! Bar closed at 2 am and young drunk people have no common sense and like to yell and stomp around. After party in room above and next to ours went on till 4:30 am, I finally fell asleep around 4:45 am. Woke up at 7 am to start the day and be where we needed to be...long night. I like to drink and party as much at the next person, but I was in bed with my significant other at 1 am and ready for sleep around 1:30...definitely not a place to stay if you like to sleep between the hours of 2 am and 5 am...which I do.

Review 44:Accommodations were nice and comfortable. Bed was very nice. Location and proximity to events and night life was great...If you don't mind not sleeping and listening to people stomping around and being rude until the early morning.

Review 45:I loved the sett up of the idea and how it was just so relaxing. I absolutely love how each room and a chalkboard door and chalk was provided so we could write all over the door. Overall the hotel was amazing!

Review 46:We asked to be on the "chill" side of hotel but the noise in the morning started at 5:30 a.m. & even with earplugs (provided on nightstand) it was so noisy! Big detriment in my opinion.

Review 47:Very comfortable staff; laid back vibe. Modern updates on an older travel lodge type hotel, which gave it a nice fresh look.

Review 48:The bathroom was a little run down looking. The bathroom (shower) was not as clean as I would have liked. There were hairs in the tub and on the tiles that were not mine!!!!

Review 49:Great funky little Hotel. Amazing bar, great food and friendly service. Yes the place is a little loud but if you're young and looking for a place to do a bit of partying this is it. Families or people on business trips should probably not stay here. The only reason I won't go back is because I like a Hotel to have a gym and pool. Other then that great little unique place. Very comfortable rooms.

Review 50:During check out they try to charge me twice the booking.com fee and I felt like they were hoping I wouldn't want to ask for a printed bill. Which meant that I had to fight it in retrospect which I am sure would have been lengthy and perhaps legally disadvantageous for me.

Review 51:Staff was friendly and competent

Review 52:They tried hard to make it a cool boutique hotel, but ultimately due to the age of the existing building, it feels more like an upscale hostel. We could hear water rushing very loudly through the old pipes every time the neighbours used the facilities (oddly enough, our pipes was quiet, or maybe our neighbours could hear ours?). The air conditioner was one of those big boxy ones which protruded into the room circulation as it was mounted at shoulder level, and makes noisy bursts of air. Yes, you can turn it off, but there's no openable windows so it would be stuffy. The placement of the joinery where you put your suitcase was also awkward at the foot of the bed as there was not much room left for circulation, whereas there was a larger area in front of the window which appeared under-utilised. Oh and they placed a branded red condom very conspicuously on the bedside table, which kind of gives you an idea of the crowd they are going for! A bit crass for me. I would have preferred a mint chocolate.

Review 53:Funky vibe, designer decor, chalkboard for your inner artist. Newly renovated. Cool location near a brewery and fancy restaurant Le Pidgeon, and a 20-30 minute walk to the downtown and pearl district. Price was reasonable. Beds and pillows and doonas were down and very comfy.

Review 54:No room for 4 people in the bar double queen to even walk around. No dresser and only 4 hangers for 4 people staying 3 nights. No fridge. Musky. Had to turn tv off and on to get sound. For $203 a night we were all very unsatisfied. We go to Portland every year and have had A LOT better for less.

Review 55:Doug Fir next door Great food and drinks ate there 4 times. Walking to everything we wanted to do. Free Parking pass since it was my husbands 50th B-Day. Staff was great :) The condoms

Review 56:That I had to leave.

Review 57:I always stay here. Sushi down the street, chalkboard doors and wonderful vibe. The staff was friendly (and cute) and just a great place to be. I can't wait to go back.

Review 58:everything, 10$ for secure underground parking leave your car and bike everywhere food at the Doug Fir is amazing (a 5$ milkshake!!) Chalkboard doors for expression. So much food close by too.

Review 59:If your neighbours are loud you will hear everything. It didn't bother us too much but If you're looking for silence at night this might not be the best place to stay. It was also tough carrying out luggage up and down the steps. It would've been nice to get assistance with our bags by the hotel.

Review 60:I stayed at the hotel with 3 other girlfriends and we had a blast. The hotel is in a very convenient location. It took 5-10 mins to get to other main attractions in the city of Portland. The nearby Doug Fir lounge is really cool. I recommend checking it out. I like that it was within walking distance of our room. The price was great and I was offered a discount on my next stay so I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Review 61:Rooms were not in good shape. Doors didn't shut well, tv didn't work well and A/C was not working correctly. To top it off, the room came with earplugs and condoms. Doesn't seem like a quality place.

Review 62:That is was available on a busy week in Portland.

Review 63:No coffee in the room Extra charge for the kitchen

Review 64:Warm welcoming staff Unique creative touches such as the blackboards Pet friendly Good location Good notes on local rstaurants We lived it!

Review 65:Walls may be too thin, thus at late night /early morning it is very easy to hear everything that occurs in the room next door.

Review 66:I love the Friendly Staff, cleanliness, stylish furniture, nice patio, excellent location, great price.

Review 67:I completely fell in love with Portland, and the hotel was really nice too. We had a quiet room but there were parties a few nights that were quite noisy, BUT they all finished before bedtime, so no worries there at all. The Doug Fir restaurant is really nice too.

Review 68:First off rates increased by 15% before checking in, there was a wedding reception in the common area (by our room) till midnight with a DJ. Hotel also has a very popular and noisy lounge. I dont mind a goid party but Cant see paying $220 a night for no sleep!

Review 69:Location and friendly staff

Review 70:A little loud due to it also being a concert venue, actually it was just some of the concert goers that were loud.

Review 71:Very cool design, patio, comfortable room. Love the location for the price. Love the bar

Review 72:Room upstairs; no elevator & no help Anti-Israel propaganda blazedon one door Very loud at all hours Smoking is everywhere. This is nottruly a non-smoking hotel.

Review 73:Price

Review 74:Staff was friendly, food was amazing

Review 75:Love the location and the Doug Fir. Great dinner and room service for breakfast.

Review 76:Perfect for seeing a show at The Doug Fir

Review 77:The stairs.

Review 78:We loved the chalk boards!

Review 79:Staff is great. Rooms r clean. Definitely stay there again

Review 80:Condoms in the room was not necessary

Review 81:beds were comfortable and restaurant

Review 82:I think this hotel is way overpriced for what they are offering. The rooms are tiny and noisy.

Review 83:The location

Review 84:I loved the room it was decorated very cool. And I would stay there aging.

Review 85:Great Location, comfortable rooms. The Doug Fir bar is great. Staff are very friendly and helpful

Review 86:kind of old school refurbished ikea upgrades

Review 87:location and Doug Fir next door

Review 88:The beds were too firm.

Review 89:The uniqueness of the hotel.chalkboard doors to scribble on. Location to downtown portland.

Review 90:It was incredibly loud. We asked to be moved to a new room at 11:30 at night and there was lots of noise outside the second room as well.

Review 91:Nothing really

Review 92:Friendly staff, good location, close to several microbreweries. Fun interior and the place has a nice atmosphere.

Review 93:Loved how close we are to many things

Review 94:Loved the location and the Doug Fir Lounge was the perfect spot for nightcap.

Review 95:Old motel that had a cosmetic upgrade, poor ventilation, small noisy rooms (there is reason why they provide ear plugs in the room)

Review 96:Incredible value for the location. We had a small but nice room and it was all that we needed to enjoy the area.

Review 97:Very small room, bar side was very loud.

Review 98:Amazing bed, fluffy down duvet and pillows, very comfortable.

Review 99:The parking.

Review 100:I love the laid back yet professional attitude of the staff. This inviting atmosphere has been evident every time I've stayed.

Review 101:THE SHOWER MECHANISM IN THE ROOM WAS HARD TO USE

Review 102:THE STAFF WAS VERY HELPFUL WHEN WE ASKED SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

Review 103:So loud! Wedding outside our room. Felt like we were in a bar in our room. People were smoking outside our room until 2 am. Carpet gross!

Review 104:Too NOISY!!!

Review 105:We loved the contemporary decor and the music venue next door was ideal for us music lovers.

Review 106:Artsy style hotel with friendly staff. Not in downtown Portland but close to the trendy neighborhoods on the east side.

Review 107:The chalkboard on the door is awesome, the staff friednly. A bit noisy but with the earplugs you don't even notice.

Review 108:the overall vibe of this place is great, will definitely come back again!

Review 109:Proximity to food and beverage; walkable to downtown. Our room had nice amenities.

Review 110:Overpriced

Review 111:Nice design

Review 112:The room was a bit damp.

Review 113:Awesome staff and a cool hotel.

Review 114:The room was very small for the price.

Review 115:The bed was magnificent. The Doug Fir was really neat and had great food.

Review 116:No problems

Review 117:Everything we did was within walking or short cab ride / bike ride

Review 118:Bed was a "euro" type bed that is not quite as comfy as American style beds.

Review 119:Love the Doug Fir restaurant and the modern decor.

Review 120:Late night folk from Doug Firs make ear plugs required equipment.

Review 121:Easy in and out to most places in Portland, if you know the highway system.

Review 122:A bit noisy

Review 123:I kept getting woken up by people walking above our room. I could hear bags being zipped open, the door opening and closing...

Review 124:It's so unique!!
