Reviews for Bear Creek Cabins

Review 1:This was secluded place right off the main highway. We were about a beautiful 30 minute drive to Yosemite National Park. The cabin suite that we stayed in was two story very clean and warm. Not what was expected but in a good way. We had a great time. The lady that ran the place was kind and friendly.

Review 2:A few more kitchen things would have made cooking easier, a peeler & chopping board for instance. Couldn't get wifi in cabin, but we were only there for a few days so wasn't a big deal.

Review 3:Quite close to Yosemite. Cabin was warm & cosy, oven & stove etc worked well.

Review 4:They are not individual cabins but a long building with cabins side by side. Our neighbor had childrens and there was a lot of noise coming through the wall. The bed linens and bathroom were clean but the wall wood logs were very dusty.

Review 5:It's a nice location but a bit difficult to locate at night.

Review 6:Not easy to find in the dark. Nowhere close to eat. Surroundings a little untidy

Review 7:Watched a mule deer while sitting on the veranda eating breakfast. Room was good with basic cooking facilities. Kettle BBQ provided

Review 8:Log cabin! Big and spacious. Kitchenette so did self catering, stocked up at Target in Atwater. Buy charcoal for BBQ. Very peaceful location. Crickets chirping all night and absolutely no light pollution! Louann is great, very friendly and helpful! Bus to Yosemite stops right outside.

Review 9:The cabin is so run down--needs to be gutted and remodeled. The owner doesn't care--he just collects the money--very sad because it could be a nice place except for the other properties around it---total shacks.

Review 10:This place needs to be avoided if you are looking for a decent place to stay. The best thing about staying here is the manager, Lou Ann. She is a wealth of information and she is so nice.

Review 11:The place is very run down and old. The road going to the cabins is rutty and the houses you have to pass are horrible. There is so much junk in the yard. When I asked Lou Ann about the owner, she said he never comes to the property and he doesn't care how it looks. I guess he only cares about the money.

Review 12:We enjoyed the manager of the property very much. Lou Ann was so helpful in telling us how to get to certain high points of Yosemite.

Review 13:As others have said, you have to drive past some trashy buildings to reach Bear Creek, and there's some junk piled around the building too, but seriously no big deal. Wish it were a little closer to the park.

Review 14:Quiet, comfortable retreat after crowded days in Yosemite. The kitchen adds flexibility and savings for meals, and makes it easier to manage dietary restrictions. Host Lou Ann is friendly and helpful.

Review 15:The cabin was within 30 min. of Yosemite. It was exactly as advertised so we knew it was not a room at the Hilton. But that was the point-to have a rustic experience while visiting a famous rustic park. It was great having a functional kitchen that we used heavily. We had stopped at a Target in Merced and bought groceries and a styrofoam cooler for the 5 days we spent there. The manager, Louann was a great help in planning where to go and what to see.

Review 16:The room Was Not particularly Clean. ( please Clean Also under The bad). No Coffee available for breakfast. No sponge To Wash The dishes ( as requested ).

Review 17:Quite place

Review 18:just as we expected, rustic but clean, comfortable and plenty of room. Cooking facilities fairly basic not an issue for our 3 night stay. small cupboard for hanging up clothes would be a good addition

Review 19:The cabins are in need of a good clean and update the "air-con" was just forced air from outside and did little to cool the cabin.

Review 20:Handy location for a few days in Yosemite.

Review 21:The pots and pans in terrible state. Need to be replaced. Ants and other insect inside but the place is in the middle of the nature so expect surprises like this.

Review 22:We liked this place. Would go there again. An hour drive to yosemite valley.

Review 23:There were a couple bugs in our cabin. Upstairs loft was warm and there was no ceiling fan. My daughter complained about the mattress

Review 24:I enjoyed the proximity to mariposa town which was fun to walk around. I also enjoyed the amenities. I felt like I was at home. The cabin had everything we needed.

Review 25:There was not much i didnt like. I highly reccomend this place. But i do have tips. Eat before you get there. Besides the bug hostel the closest anything is 7 miles away in mariposa and closes at 9pm. I will garuntee you will have no service so buy a map. Gpses are useless. And gas is rare so try to stay close to full. Especially if going into yosemite.

Review 26:The cabin definately was not what i expected. It was a 4 room cabin. No staff. And also just nothing around you. There are a few run down houses on the dirt road coming up but the town can have more than 500 people. Super peaceful cause you are completely cut off from the world.

Review 27:Very strange not meeting any of the owners during our stay. We just came and went. There were no house rules so we trust we did the right thing.

Review 28:Aspect, remoteness and log cabin feel

Review 29:kitchen is very minimally equipped.

Review 30:bear creek lodge is a great place if you want to visit yosemite, half an hour drive to the entrance. we found the key on the table in the beautiful lodge, the barbecue on the porch, bit messy garden, but overall a great place to stay.

Review 31:I think that some people may be disappointed with upkeep of the surroundings , In particular the 250 Meter driveway from the main road up to the cabins . There are some rundown looking smaller accommodation buildings lower down and some disused machinery littering the sides of dirt pathway that may detract from the overall experience " for some ". Personally I think It added to the country / rustic feel . Would be good to have WIFI , but this is in the country side after all, so I wasn't to stressed out with the lack of outside contact . There isn't any close restaurants or food stores so you'll have to drive back to Mariposa for a feed.

Review 32:Hi all . I stayed here with my family mid September 2014 in one of the two bedroom cabins ( the one on the far right ) . The rooms were clean , roomy and defiantly had that log cabin feel about it with it's fireplace and wooden interior , we loved it Our host was very friendly , down to earth and I quite enjoyed having a beer and a long yarn with her on the porch of the cabin in the afternoon. . At night It's fairly quiet, apart from an occasional car on the main road and due to the lack of city lights in the area ,the stars in the night sky were amazingly bright .. If you choose to stay here please keep in mind that It Isn't the Hilton , but It is a terrific way to experience a real log cabin without the fancy stuff .It's also reasonably priced . If I return to the area I would defiantly conceder staying here again . PS ..Even if you are a party of two , please conceder the two bedroom cabins as they have a lot more space and taller ceilings , not as pokey as the single bed cabins Cheers from Australia

Review 33:No counter space for food prep, needs dresser with mirror in loft area since only one bathroom. Kitchen needs updates very badly! No screens on doors or window. Allow smoking right on front deck so goes into our unit. Go through terrible run down housing to get there. Could be nice if really cleaned and updated! Have separate entrance from other houses.

Review 34:Loved there was only four cabins, lou ann was very nice as was her dog bear! Has full kitchen!! Location to park not bad, private area

Review 35:The dog was a bit territorial and did not seem to appreciate guests near the living quarters, as when we had a question for the owners. Though he was just making noises, not being aggressive. This was, however something that didn't bother us at all, but if you are very afraid of dogs...

Review 36:We stayed here for two night while visiting Yosemite national park. They even trusted us enough to use the grill, even though, as i understand it there was a significant drought. The owner was very nice.

Review 37:The air con worked but switched off with a bang after a couple of hours and wouldn't work again till it had had a rest! Not enough cutlery and crockery for 6 But these were small problems-don't expect posh and you'll love it!

Review 38:We lived the peace, the country side, the fact we could BBQ, the lay out of the room with extra bed upstairs

Review 39:No convenient restaurants. Had to buy coffee at a gas station the night before and save it for the morning to be heated in the microwave. The front porce was shared wit 3 other cabin and was littered with trash. Outside the door the yard was littered with junked cars. There was no phone. There was no cell service. If there was an emergency and we needed to contact help we would have been "****" out of luck. It was over a 20 mile round tip to go out for dinner or food supplies. There was no A/C but a swamp cooler with out directions as to what switch would turn it on. The only time we saw someone in attendance was the afternoon of our second day and that was so we coud sign for our room charges.

Review 40:Surrounding scenery was beautiful if you looked past the front yard.

Review 41:Junk outside cabins Bags of rubbish behind cabins Noise and closeness of main road It is one big cabin split into 3 adjoining rooms No wifi or phone signal Ants The hour drive to Yosemite

Review 42:Size of cabin Friendly guests in adjoining cabins

Review 43:The single cooker in our unit was unreliable so dinner took much longer to prepare than normal.

Review 44:This motel is located within a reasonable driving distance from Yosemite (approx 20 minutes). They are a little run down but as clean as can be. Good value for budget travellers. Very friendly caretaker.

Review 45:- a little shabby; at least the faucet knobs should be fixed, they are way too loose - this is so easy - the only knife is too blunt - cockroach catches are a little suspicious sign - the sound insulation between the units is not good enough - no telephone signal is sort of OK, this is the US after all; but no Internet is too bad nowadays - I couldn't make the television work - the best I managed was a single TV channel; and the aspect ratio was wrong (too wide); but since we were tired by the end of the day, we didn't care

Review 46:- the dog and the lady - not too expensive

Review 47:The location and very Quite.

Review 48:The proprietor , Lou Ann, was very friendly

Review 49:Leaving.

Review 50:Lou Anne Bear was the greatest host in all our travels, most helful and chatty and some great anecdotes.

Review 51:No internet and poor phone service, need newer pans

Review 52:Quiet and a forest setting

Review 53:no breakfast, no coffee

Review 54:Nothing

Review 55:The accommodation was spacious and simple and Lou Ann is a very pleasant host

Review 56:Needs a little more of house keeping

Review 57:The location and peacefulness

Review 58:No bad expirences

Review 59:That it felt like a home to me and my family

Review 60:Toilet was small. Overhead fan was dirty.

Review 61:Nice house next to the forest. Looks good.

Review 62:Maybe better marking of the driveway

Review 63:Comfortable room, quiet environment, funny and delicious cuisine few minutes away

Review 64:The hide a bed was very uncomfortable. All else was good

Review 65:The simplicity

Review 66:No meal.

Review 67:Space.

Review 68:The room was very dirty, we found hair in the shower (more than just a maybe understandable one), had ants, spiderwebs....you could see that the room hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. If the owner cared more, it could be a good place to stay, because of the closeness to Yosemite NP. When you enter the area, you get the impression of driving onto a junkyard. Overall not good-even for a lower price.

Review 69:Close to the Yosemite NP entrance

Review 70:A few new sheet sets and a washable couch slipcover would go a long way!...

Review 71:Our family enjoyed staying at Bear Creek over a long weekend very much. The 20-30 min drive to and from Yosemite on the windy picturesque road felt shorter than it looks on the map. For the negative reviewers – please consider you’re in the ‘wilderness’ and adjust your expectations - WiFi?! Why?! The boys loved BEAR, make sure to ask for him when you arrive, for more outdoor play, while the grown-ups make dinner in the sufficiently-equipped kitchen. Great communication with the owners via phone, e-mail and in-person. We’ll be back. For BEAR!

Review 72:Entrance to the property was run down and questionable, you had to drive thru a small cluster of houses that were run down and messy; it doesn't help your first impression of the place. The kitchen could REALLY use an update!! the walls appeared dirty, (the only room in the 4-plex that appeared dirty) there were no glasses, only coffee cups and the other dishes were sparse.

Review 73:beds and towels and linens were clean and comfortable, bathroom was clean and updated, a charcoal BBQ was available for use, it was very spacious, satellite TV was available. Louann was very pleasant, and got back to you quickly, when you had a question.

Review 74:We arrived late, and we couldn't contact anybody to give us advice where to have something for dinner. The plates and glasses were dirty, we need to wash them again.

Review 75:It is in the moutain

Review 76:Really dirty place which was not cleaned properly. Dishes were dirty. Any place with kitchen is expected to have some basic things like salt and paper towels but none were there. Dish washing sponge was really stinky. Bedding ans sheet were really dirty and nobody responses to your calls. We have to endup buying new sheets and turn on the heat and sleep on new sheets. If the dirtier then most of $39 dollar motels and worst I ever had. Will not recommend anybody.

Review 77:No proper facilities, not very clean bathrooms. Surrounding not clean. No-wifi, Only 1 bathroom. Not sufficient kitchen supplies.

Review 78:Location is convenient to go the Valley. About 30mins drive.

Review 79:The staff were wonderful. Very personable and friendly. I had a very pleasant conversation with the owner the night that we arrived and she even allowed me to switch the porch lights off in order to do night photography. They were very accommodating and helpful; the owner even helped my friend to contact her father to assure him of her safety as we had no mobile reception. The place is quiet and serene and in the morning, you can hear the sounds of birds chirping in the trees around the cabin. Great location for a personal retreat, even if you don't plan on visiting Yosemite National Park. Overall, a fantastic location to stay in and the price is reasonable as well.

Review 80:the kitchen was very poor in pots en pansnow glasses for drinks and it was not clean the pans we cleaned everthing befoe using

Review 81:the rest en the nature and you can sit outside in the morning

Review 82:The office you could not find due to no sign, had to wait until the manager found us. The area is a little dumpy. Not representing the cabin photo's style or charater. A little odd on vacuuming the cabin before we left. But we did.

Review 83:Like the seclusion. The cabins are cozy and clean. The Yosemite Bug resort that is just up the hill has an awesome restaurant and spa. The photo's are spot on for the cabins.

Review 84:Insects and small animals.

Review 85:Quite place in the middle of the forest.

Review 86:never heard from or saw owners.

Review 87:suite was quiet

Review 88:terrifying surroundings, some shacks nearby, old cabin, old furniture

Review 89:it was functional but nothing more
