Reviews for The Fairmont Orchid
Review 1:The Internet was completely useless!! Really unacceptable these days, especially for the price.
Review 2:The snorkeling was great and the restaurants were excellent!!
Review 3:Not a bad experience, just some feedback since Fairmont took over some general maintenance and upkeep in rooms is needed. Furniture, bathroom and pool
Review 4:Boutique resort, close proximity to all amenities offered at Mauna Lani.
Review 5:Incredibly expensive food. Poor Internet connection - always dropping out. Yoga classes right outside our room everyday. Beach hire very expensive (especially when already paying a resort fee) Several reception staff surly, condescending and rude.
Review 6:The location. Nice, safe lagoon for snorkeling. Fabulous for viewing turtles. Good for nice educational morning walks. Close to shopping centres and Blue Hawaii Helicopters.
Review 7:Food and dining options were limited and very expensive considering the mediocre quality of the food.
Review 8:Staff was friendly. Hotel is very centrally located and made it easy to get to excursions.
Review 9:Relaxed atmosphere where one is not harassed. Food quality excellent, and attentive staff everywhere. Pool open 24 hours great for later arrivals. Grounds impeccable.
Review 10:The hotel has north tower and south tower, it's horizontally wide building. It's far and inconvenience to some South tower's room from the lobby and entrance. After checked in, I carried my luggage by myself to my room, but I lost a way. My room was South tower and supposed to be same floor's number of the lobby, but I had to go all the way down to South and take an elevator because the building has land scape. Finally, I asked help a bell boy who was walking back to the lobby pushing empty cart to take me to my room. He was very nice and kind. My inconvenient, there was no pool towel in the pool area after 4pm. The hotel shop close at early, maybe around 5pm. I had to go to the shopping plaza in the resort asking their shuttle bus service or driving by myself. The shuttle bus service in the resort was not so frequently in night time. I drove a car by myself, but I felt it's danger driving situation in the dark night only moon light was bright, and there is huge resort complex property! The hotel's welcome leis are made of nuts not shell or real flower. It's good for men but it looks not so pretty for women.. I know all of hotel staff are having same one, but I was disappointed the leis.. Anyway, I realized some staff is attentive and kind but some staff was rude and unkind through from check in to out despite they are very expensive resort hotel. I'm not sure here again if I could go to the island, but maybe I won't come back to the island. Sorry..
Review 11:My first assigned room had been already taken to another customer. When I opened the door, other customer was there. The bell boy helped me contacting to concierge using hotel phone in the isle. Finally, they gave me better room after sunset around 6pm leaving a message card for apologize and complimentary snack and waters.
Review 12:Relaxing, excellent help from staff throughout the property. Great food selections and specials I requested were always made available. The shuttle to the other priorities was always prompt and made everything much easier than needing a car or cab.
Review 13:Service was not particularly welcoming. Staff seemed robotic and disinterested compared to other Hawaiin resorts we've stayed in.
Review 14:Hotel room and grounds. Nice beach.
Review 15:The room was fantastic and we were very well treated! It was our honeymoon so they sent us free biscuits and sparkling wine! The facilities were fantastic (although you do pay for them!!) Lots to do within the complex itself.
Review 16:Around the pool side the concrete finish Breakfast buffet is not so great Towels needs to be in the rooms replaced They are worn out
Review 17:Property location and design. I believe it used to be The Ritz Carlton The smart thing about the current management is they did not touch the original design; it is luxurious, spacious and splendid. Also the upkeep is great.
Review 18:The disappointed look on the face of the guys when I only tipped them a dollar for bringing our car around, even if they took a little long. We were paying an extra $5 a day for valet parking. Is this not shared with them?
Review 19:The tranquility of the beach point and pool areas.
Review 20:The hotel restaurants are understaffed and it showed not only in the slow service but in the fact that in one of them, they couldn't give us a table until 20 minutes after the reservation despite the fact that more tables were empty than full when we finally were seated. The food was overpriced even by Hawaiian standards. The hotel kept hallways open to the outside that should have remained closed to make the air conditioning efficient. This resulted in excess humidity and condensation in the public areas and caused many insects to gain entry into the halls and rooms. We had stayed here in 2001 when the property was simply "The Orchid at Mauna Lani." It was much better run at that time. Fairmont is a great hotel name but it doesn't deal as well with everything 14 years later.
Review 21:A fairly nicely located property in an area of Hawaii that is usually sunny. The property is clean and has convenient places to eat.
Review 22:We loved everything.
Review 23:Fantastic stay, the Staff are so nice, provide everything and in polite attitude. At the hotel beach we saw turtle! My 6-year old girl loved this place. And beautiful garden, swimming pool and comfortable room and bed.
Review 24:Nothing we did t like but a suggestion.... Upon arrival I think that men should receive the dark beads and women a Hawaiian flower lei ... My only negative . We stayed at royal Hawaiian before and this is what they do...
Review 25:The location was fabulous and the snorkeling absolutely amazing !! Loved it and wil return
Review 26:We really enjoyed snorkeling and how nice the entire grounds were. Every staff person we encountered was very generous and genuine in their spirit of helpfulness. Food was delicious. Highlight: Snorkeling with the sea turtles and relaxing by the water.
Review 27:Most of the resort facilities incur an additional cost, on top of the resort fee - quite an expensive few days
Review 28:Amazing spa for couples massage by the waterfall, was definitely a highlight
Review 29:View of golf instead of view on ocean. King-size bed not available. WiFi did not always work very well. Air conditioning did not go under 75 F (maintenance could not do anything about it). I expect better from such an establishment.
Review 30:The hotel and grounds are gorgeous! All of the staff are very helpful and friendly. Amazing snorkeling on-site, and the mantas were cool! We also enjoyed the guided petroglyph tour and 24-hour pool.
Review 31:The small bay was VERY misrepresented in the hotel pictures, which made the bay look big and swimmable. It was not and shoreline was not either.
Review 32:The staff were friendly. The nightly music was great. Brown's restaurant good, but overpriced. Norios was fabulous but closed two nights a week, which is too bad.
Review 33:The receptionist wasn't welcoming upon our arrival and the concierge make everything impossible to be visited without a car ! However we discovered towards the end of our trip that you can manage to visit a lot of sightseeing through tours .
Review 34:We booked an ocean view room with two queens, as we were traveling with two kids. The first night they only had a king bed available, and wouldn't provide more than one roll-away (even though at check-in they said roll-aways). The woman on the phone was very curt, somewhat rude, and didn't offer anything to help with the situation. That was disappointing. Our move the next day solved the problem, but our first night was far from ideal.
Review 35:The overall experience was fantastic. It was heaven for our kids. They were exhausted each day.
Review 36:Lacked orientation of property's facilities at check in Cleaning incomplete one day Small thing but tea was served luke warm everytime Average food but always served with a smile
Review 37:Pleasant decor, very comfortable. Exceptional staff and sincere hospitality Shoreline trail access to more beaches and ancient ponds Fantastic facilities, much to do without leaving resort area
Review 38:Long waits for every meal. Time is precious and vacation time even more so. Pool filled with corporate yahoos. Price gouging. "Signature drinks" that came out of pre-mixed jugs. Only the least discerning could consider this resort to be luxury.
Review 39:Don't understand the rave reviews of this place; extremely mediocre. Only good thing was the location.
Review 40:Nothing !
Review 41:The setting is wonderful with beautiful pools, gardens and beaches. You can snorkel in the lagoon and see turtles swimming. The room was lovely with great views across the golf course towards the ocean and mountains.
Review 42:Price. The majority of the restaurants are overpriced. I get that if you pay a lot of money for a hotel the restaurants in the hotel won't be cheap. But the first night we went to eat and the steaks where $50-60.
Review 43:This hotel is just everything you would like a hotel to be. Beautiful, great beds, very luxurious. (Best body lotion I have ever smelled) The surroundings are beautiful and we really enjoyed our time here! Wish we could have stayed even longer.
Review 44:1. Room keys didn't work twice (once late at night after an outing) and got to walk a long way back to the front desk. 2. Breakfast spread is dismal (many varieties but the quality is not acceptable for the status of resort it claims to be - e.g. juices are not fresh but from the carton) and service is extremely slow (though polite and friendly). 3. Room is dated. 4. Shower cubicle floods (water flows very slowly). 5. Shuttle bus left us waiting at The Shops for almost an hour after dinner (had to go back to the restaurant 4x to get them to call the hotel for the shuttle). I won't be complaining about these weaknesses of the hotel if we weren't paying almost USD500 a night!
Review 45:1. Great location. 2. Friendly, helpful and resourceful concierge lady (her name is Far). 3. Great Brown restaurant with fantastic food and wonderful service (breathtaking sunset view). Didn't get the name of the waiter but he is tall with very short hair - he is one of the best waiter we've ever come across - he knows his drinks and food and very attentive without being intrusive. 3. Great singer at the Brown restaurant too!
Review 46:Too small beach No good paddle boards to rent, and limited to a too small area. Room too bright from 5am due to a lack of efficient store.
Review 47:Location Service Resort overall quality, great place.
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:We loved the gardens, the pool, the lagoon - swimming with turtles and tropical fish - felt like I swimming in an aquarium. The food was devine and best of all was the friendly helpful staff. Can't rate this resort high enough. Loved every minute of our stay.
Review 50:Gardens and Lagoon
Review 51:No bad experiences. Just so long to visit anything outside the resort.
Review 52:It was a quiet place which allowed for relaxation
Review 53:The location was perfect . The hotel was beautiful and there was a lot to do.
Review 54:From the moment you pull to the front of the hotel till you leave the property you feel like royalty.
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:The quiet location, the graciousness of the staff, and the beauty of the grounds.
Review 57:The front desk staff.
Review 58:Facilities need renovation
Review 59:People were great
Review 60:The friendly staff. The location. The pool.
Review 61:The ocean view room is not as excellent as we expect. The ocean is far away from the balcony.
Review 62:Clean, great staff, near shop center, beach
Review 63:The food is not appropriated cooked in each of the restaurant in this hotel.
Review 64:The water in the bathroom sink did not have hot water
Review 65:Feat pool and private beach
Review 66:the pool was too warm
Review 67:the buffet and the room, esp. the bathroom
Review 68:The staff pool area
Review 69:Wish we booked the ocean view room, but the garden view was still very nice
Review 70:Staff was awesome
Review 71:Food was disappointing for such a nice property. : (
Review 72:The rooms are clean and comfortable, staff is outstanding & I would stay here again.
Review 73:there was nothing to not like
Review 74:great location, lovely rooms with good views, excellent service, friendliness of staff, good restaurants
Review 75:Pillow was a little small.
Review 76:Staff were terrific. Very friendly especially Gold Concierge and housekeepers.
Review 77:Everything
Review 78:Food and beverage prices are extremely high but very good.
Review 79:Nice Hotel, nice grounds, nice beach, great snorkeling.
Review 80:other staff in the presidential
Review 81:i like quiet place
Review 82:Food prices were more than would have been expected. We dined at the beach restaurant and the formal restaurant. We dropped $240 for the formal dinner and it was very good, and would do it again. The casual dining was good, but not worth it. This is not the place you would want to bring kids if you are on a budget. We were never able to get the interface for the tv to display our Gopro footage. Even once we had transferred to the computer, but at least we could watch it out the laptop I brought.
Review 83:The beach was small but nice. Great for snorkeling. Secure location. There was a resort fee, but it included parking and a few other items like 1 hr snorkel equipment daily. Staff was very courteous and everyone was professional. Turtles that live on property are COOL! really neat to see these guys on the beach and underwater.
Review 84:Charges to park vehicle Very expensive food that did not reflectquality. Room not clean. Staff efficient but not particularly friendly
Review 85:Location, lovely room overlooking golf course, helpful staff. Hotelgrounds were beautiful, Well kept.
Review 86:Birds at breakfast, our "garden view" room (1232) was behind the waterfall and mostly obscured by foliage. We had mostly a "sidewalk view."
Review 87:Food, sunsets, staff
Review 88:Food was good but not gourmet. Breakfast buffet bountiful and delicious.
Review 89:Lush and picturesque, on the ocean. Stunningly beautiful. Clean. Very gracious staff.
Review 90:Could use more seating capacity at the casual restaurant (Browns restaurant) and more casual eating options.
Review 91:Beautiful grounds and beach area; rooms were large and housekeeping service twice a day was nice.
Review 92:Paid for activities are very expensive. Spa also expensive.
Review 93:Beautiful hotel with fantastic activities. Free activities are offered and staff are friendly. Good choice of restaurants with free shuttle to local shops. Nice lagoon and wonderful heated pools. Stunning gardens.
Review 94:Be ready to spend a lot: the meals are not included in the rate, and therestaurants are quite expensive, although exquisite.
Review 95:Wonderful luxurious hotel Great cuisine, the Japanese Norio is excellent
Review 96:Lacks adult only pool Lacks activities such as group yoga, groupmeditation Nickle and Dime you on every additional service such as $50rental for one hour of paddle boarding, $25 per night rental for amicrowave, $15 per hour on aging snorkel gear.
Review 97:Family friendly Remodeled rooms Beautiful facilities
Review 98:The main problem with this is the fact that there is no where (except an overpriced deli) to eat a cheap lunch or supper. Also, everything you do there costs a great deal of money. It's cheaper per night than most hotels of this standard but you may as well double the cost once you've had breakfast lunch and supper at the various restaurants... To add to this ludicrous price you have to pay to rent snorkels or use the tennis courts, or the internet ($14.50 a day!) and many other activities which are free in other smart hotels like the four seasons.
Review 99:This hotel is immaculate: clean rooms, great pool and a beautiful beach.
Review 100:Things not working E.G. door entry to room; ipod connectivity to tvReporting the above and them not being fixed properly and in the case ofthe iPod not even being addressed at all despite having asked
Review 101:Ambiance
Review 102:Beach is OK (good for tiny tots), but is much better for adults or couples at Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, and Hapuna resorts/hotels. Buffet was somewhat overpriced.
Review 103:The rooms were comfortable and clean; the internet access was excellent. The teenage girls used the spa and liked it very much. Hotel is in Excellent location on the big island too--pool area is fine and spacious. Beach is small but safe, and snorkeling is very good right off the beach. Excellent restaurants in the area. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Finally, the breakfast buffet is expensive but terrific.
Review 104:The food is average. I was very disappointed with the menu and theprices of the meals. The food is highly priced but the quality isaverage. I do not have any problem with great food at high prices butthis is not the case at this hotel. Fairmont Orchid should seroiuslylook at their menu and revaluate it. It is difficult to imagine that themenu has a mexican flavor when you are in Hawaii!!!!
Review 105:The hotel is very nice and the grounds are impeccable. The rooms arevery confortable and the staff is very friendly.
Review 106:We went there to officially celebrate our 11th anniversary, something wehad not done in a while. When I mentioned it in passing that, inpassing, we were on our anniversary...we got the royal treatment. It waswonderful...especially the I room breakfast. We had a garden viewbalcony, and when they came to deliver breakfast, even out on the lanaiI t was all with linen and beautifully arranged. One of the things Ireally appreciated about their menu wax the break down and though thatwent into people with different diets. Low fat, gluten free, veg, vegan,.... And there was always the option you coud adjust. Amazing!!!!! Besthotel I have stayed at in the us.
Review 107:We were booked via our travel agent to stay at the Sheraton hotel forour honeymoon but were 200% dissapointed on all levels with this hotel -shabby, dated, dirty looking area's, they are in the middle of arefurbishment, service is really poor and staff look like they dont wantto be there and dont really care if you are there either...def not the 4star luxury Sheraton experience! Anyway so we decided to leave andbooked the Fairmont, they met and exceeded all our expectations from thebeginning to the end....The hotel, the grounds and room were sobeautiful, romantic, luxurious, clean and private. The food and choiceof menu was great. The pool and secluded beach are great. The service isgreat. Thank goodness for them to save the day, would def stay hereagain. Thanks Fairmont!
Review 108:Staff at the front desk aren't as friendly as the other staff. Thebathroom doors need to be re-painted. The (fake) tree by the spa is verydirty and need to be washed or replaced.
Review 109:I didn't like that the chef put my kids on a diet. The kids menu left them hungry, and as they were already tired, it was not a pleasant evening. What's up with the whole wheat pasta? I tried it at home, and it doesn't fly. So on vacation, I'm ok with filling their tummies with food they like. Granted, they substitute the whole wheat pasta for regular if you ask - but the portions are smaller than I have ever seen in a restaurant (they say they measure out 6 oz per kids serving) The price is not adjusted to the smaller serving size ($13). I would also like to note, that my 6 year old boy is 50 lbs (about to turn 7) My 11 year old daughter is 72 lbs. For my 95 lb 12 yr. old boy, we ordered from the adult menu ($18 burger). No one needs to diet in my family, but thank you for your concern, chef.
Review 110:The hotel was wonderful. The rooms are large and the bathroom could accomodate two showers at the same time - without compromising water pressure! The beach was perhaps too sheltered - but great for little kids. We drove to nearby beaches for bodyboarding and sand space. The lobby was my favorite place, early in the morning, before the kids woke up - just sat for a few minutes with a cup of coffee listening to the Hawaiian music and watching the palms sway in the breeze...
Review 111:Expensive drinks and food- no alternative for budget grocery shoppingbesides over-priced market on resort.
Review 112:The staff was relaxed and professional. The matinence of the property issuperb, and though the resort seems isolated, it is very relaxing andcomforting.
Review 113:Not all partial ocean view rooms really have an ocean view. It dependson the floor and whether trees block the view.
Review 114:It has great location, the beach is small, but the snorkling off thebeach is very interesting due to the turtles that live around that area.
Review 115:Just one thing.... The breakfast buffet was a let down. $30 forwarm food.....
Review 116:Where do I start! We loved the location, the hotel, the staff, the foodand the atmosphere, which was second to none! Having access to thepools and hot tubs 24hrs a day was a bonus. We also saw two weddingswhile we were there. Beautiful location for anyone looking for adestination wedding!
Review 117:They messed up the room preference. We got twin beds instead of 1 double. They did change it however.
Review 118:Awesome beach with good snorkeling.
Review 119:Quality staff, most helpful and located in possibly the best place on the island. If carlsberg did hotels......
Review 120:The conferences held there
Review 121:The setting
Review 122:At resturants, service was a little slow. Courteous but slow.
Review 123:VERY comfortable bed! Beautiful grounds.
Review 124:Beach Room services
Review 125:Everything seemed flawless
Review 126:Beach was small
Review 127:Great food, great service
Review 128:Everything is expensive. Very tough to maintain any kind of budget.
Review 129:Beautiful property, great attention to detail, and good food.
