Reviews for Best Western Robert Treat

Review 1:The staff was rude upon my arrival, the desk clerk in the morning was much kinder but this initial encounter left me sour.

Review 2:The breakfast was accommodating.

Review 3:Queen bed could not have been a queen. I believe it was a full. Smell of marijuana coming into my room, Had to fumble for my room key to get into the breakfast area while the staff stood right inside and watched me.

Review 4:Breakfast was good, clean modern area , Nice lobby, across the street from NJPAC. Wifi was good. Restaurant and stores within walking distance.

Review 5:There was a party during our stay so after driving 9 hours we could notget any rest. Manager did give us 50% off when it should have been freesince we couldn't sleep all night. Bums walking the floors askingfor cigarettes. My husband almost got robbed! A woman was banging on thedoor trying to get him to open the door, and when he refused she ran inthe room across the hall that she opened with a key. We know because myhusband watched her through the peep hole in the door. We had to checkout, and despite the early checkout they still held $388 on my card whenI paid cash for the night we stayed. Thank god for the Hampton Inn whoput us in a clean suite, with free breakfast for our troubles.

Review 6:That the room was clean, besides the blood stain in the carpet or it mayhave been ketchup (maybe) either way not acceptable.

Review 7:I called the front desk to advise them the room didn't have a remote control, after one face to face request three phone calls and two hours later I received the tv remote control. The room didn't have wash clothes, I asked the maid she said "they don't have anymore maybe later"(That was 10am day of check-out).

Review 8:The location was okay. My husband and I despite the challenges enjoyed each other for our eight year anniversary weekend.

Review 9:Very thin walls. Even after being moved I could still hear the conversations of people in the other rooms, not to mention their showers running, toilets flushing etc etc. Made it very hard to get a good nights sleep. Also, my mini refrigerator was open and there was a pillow case inside which I put down to poor cleaning of the rooms.

Review 10:I really liked the staff. I had issues with the person in the room next to be, they were extremely loud on the phone and using incredibly foul language and the staff were more than accommodating moving me to a different room. Also, the 24/7 airport shuttle that runs every 30 minutes was a huge bonus.

Review 11:I was offered a room that was right next the elevator room. The noise was very loud and unbearable. The noise was so loud that it was impossible to sleep. I don't understand how that room is even offered for guests!! I was told the hotel was fully booked. The only other room available had cigarette smell all over the place. It was hard to even breath inside that room. The staff was not helpful. I was asked to speak to the manager the next morning to ask for a refund.

Review 12:good location, shuttle service from/to airport and train station, and the breakfast was fine.

Review 13:Nice comfortable room, decent breakfast with some hot options. Bus nj transit 108 was stopping right around the corner giving a great option to reach New York port authority terminal, right by Time square and Broadway

Review 14:Bad pickup service from the airport.. It was not the driver's fault. As a small hotel, there is no many customer. So they cannot operate pick up bus often.

Review 15:Very clean. Very kind people.

Review 16:We stayed in room 702, too close to the elevator, you can hear them in the night. The guest in room 703 let the door slam shut so hard it shook the walls between the rooms, they did this 13 times on Monday night.

Review 17:We had stayed here before, liked the location and proximity to the Penn Station. The staff are friendly and helpfull.

Review 18:When arrived at the room (~4pm), the room was still not ready and being cleaned. There were some stranger keep knocking the door in the night which was certainly not a peasant experience.

Review 19:Location near to Newark Penn Station. Free public parking.

Review 20:the hotel does not have exclusive property. it is a part of robert treat centre. there is huge amount of traffic of other than passengers.

Review 21:Location, drop & pick up facility from airport and penn stations. co-operative reception staff.

Review 22:The heater and air conditioning did not work well at all. Room was extrextremely hot when we first arrived and took a long time for it to even get to a comfortable temperature.

Review 23:Great location with a lot to do in the surrounding area.

Review 24:I'm a big guy and the doorway to the bathroom was kind of small. But next time I'll get a suite.

Review 25:Almost everything, the staff were friendly, the place was clean and very comfortable.

Review 26:When we first got there they gave me the wrong room. I reserved a double bed instead I was given a single. When asked to correct the issue I was told that I was wrong. Once I proved that I was right in was given attitude. Bathroom ceiling was peeling very bad.

Review 27:The place was clean

Review 28:Temlrature control. Its mid nov but rooms were too hot. We could not control the temprature. We were told that just turn the heat off and open the windows. Windows could open very little and than it was pretty noisy outside. They should provide temprature control in every room. We cd not sleep entire night.

Review 29:Location from newark airport and free shuttle.

Review 30:Thin walls made it so that I could hear an argument in the room next to me at 5:30am. Also, I was placed in a handicap accessible room and the bed and the bathroom had a distinct odor that made me believe the room wasn't cleaned well.

Review 31:Friendly staff

Review 32:One of us is a disabled person, and some places aren't acessible for wheelchair, so we had to carry her.

Review 33:Great qualities vs price. Historical hotel. Friendly staff.

Review 34:The fridge in the room stop working after few hours, not sure if they have a timer on the fridge or it just stop working??

Review 35:Breakfast is included and free parking for hotel guest.

Review 36:A little tired looking in some areas, but perfectly fine for the price.

Review 37:Friendly staff and overall good value. Big comfy beds and decent breakfast. Airport shuttle service very useful for saving the cost of a taxi.

Review 38:Had to sleep without AC for one night because the clerk said that the hotel turns their AC/heat on/off as a whole and it was turned off for the season. And not a hotel issue but... Newark as a whole is a dump.

Review 39:The location is great if you're wanting to take the Path or NJ Transit into the city. And overall the hotel itself was pretty good for the money.

Review 40:The breakfast was great also. We were able to eat well before found back on the road. The location was walking distance to the Prudential Center for the concert.

Review 41:Despite claim of "air conditioning", there is only a central system. In winter, only heating is enabled - so our room was hot with no way to cool it. There are no restaurants in immediate area (only pizza delivery).

Review 42:Room was certainly clean, however, old and dated.

Review 43:Nothing

Review 44:The best value anywhere. Our bedroom had everything one could want and comfortable. Also had a bath which is rare now in hotels, the majority only having showers. Breakfast was amazing and coming from Scotland, the porridge (oatmeal) was equal to the best.

Review 45:My room had the elevator shaft right beside it and was incredibly loud and disturbing. I arrived late at night after a long flight and was too exhausted to ask to change rooms and move. My fault, I should have made the effort. Not a restful night.

Review 46:The neighborhood not very attractive, but only 5 min away from Newark Penn Station.

Review 47:Nice and convenient hotel for a night in Newark. Relaxed restaurant with good food and wine. Nice rooms with all amenities.

Review 48:We arrived late and was up early so we weren't there long enough to comment

Review 49:We where able to sit at the bar and have a beer and something to eat. Front desk staff where great in making arrangements for our driver to the port

Review 50:Airport shuttle took 1hour 20 minutes to arrive and 2 phone calls. Notimpressive. Breakfast was very meagre and in a pokey basement area.

Review 51:Good Staff at hotel, good location for seeing the area

Review 52:I wouldn't recommend walking around at night but then again I had no problems walking to and from hotel at night. I wasn't there to venture into rough neighborhoods but to just go to my conference.

Review 53:Close to The Prudential Center, close to Penn Station, comfortable bed and my favorite was the free, yummy breakfast. No complaints here. Everything was in walking distance.

Review 54:Your breakfast was horrible! Your staff new little about the train service to NYC. When your customer asks about train service take some interest and offer good advice.

Review 55:Clean, close to train station

Review 56:The reception staff weren't friendly and we had e-mailed ahead for an extra mattress to be put in the room but it wasn't. The breakfast choices were poor and the seating arrangements weren't conducive to eating a meal. Also, we were going to eat in the restaurant that night but couldn't because there was a function on.

Review 57:The location, and the very friendly and helpful transit bus driver (Terry or Jerry).

Review 58:The beds were a bit small. We had to pay to keep our car in the lot after we checked out.

Review 59:The hotel is well located to all the venues in Newark. Free parking during our stay was a nice touch. The breakfast was very good.

Review 60:My room was just next to the elevator and you can hear the unbelievable loud rumbling noise whenever the elevator is in use all throught the night. I have requested to change the room but was told that the hotel was fully booked.

Review 61:Breakfast was nothing to write home about.

Review 62:Location was fantastic for walking to the Prudential Center. Staff members were very helpful, and free parking was a plus!

Review 63:Loved everything

Review 64:Overall a fantastic hotel. Lovely free hot breakfast. very helpful friendly staff. We especially loved the Military Park view. Penn Station nearby for easy access to all New York has to offer. Our 4 days where faultless.

Review 65:The woman at the front desk is so rude to every customer, and she even didn't tell me when and where the breakfast is. The shuttle bus is not that convenient.

Review 66:Some staff are friendly.

Review 67:Well furnished comfortable room and modern bathroom, friendly staff, good bar/restaurant, shuttle service. Could be alternative to staying in Manhattan as easy, cheap transport there.

Review 68:Excellent value. Historic hotel - 4 Presidents and Albert Einstein have stayed there. Quiet location in central business district opposite Military Park. Would suggest alternative to staying in Manhattan - can catch rail service into Madison Square Gardens (cost $5) or World Trade Centre ($2.75) - takes less than 30 minutes. Hotel very reasonably priced, has complimentary airport/rail station shuttle, also good breakfast also complimentary. Highly recommend. Stayed total of 5 nights in three periods, over 2 weeks from 15 Sep to 4 Oct. 2015

Review 69:I was walking a lot alone at night so the area took a bit getting used to.

Review 70:Staff were helpful and friendly. My room was clean and equipped with everything one could need in a hotel room. The bed was so comfortable and the pillows I wanted to take home with me.

Review 71:It was in Newark, not the safest feeling city....but better than I anticipated.

Review 72:We stayed here to take my daughter to a concert at the Prudential Center. Could walk there...although not alone at night. Free parking. Good free breakfast.

Review 73:Room 401 is the worst hotel room we've ever been in. It's right beside the lifts and ice machines. You've no idea the noise levels within this room which went on all night and when we complained at 8om staff weren't interested. Parking is chaotic too wouldn't recommend and we will never be back Room 401 should not be used as a saleable room

Review 74:Shuttle bus Room service

Review 75:The breakfast room is ridiculous. It was crouded, you didn't get a seat at a table, even not in the business center, you had to line for coffee and food, couldn't pass other guests cause it's so narrow. Why not use the restaurant for breakfast???!!

Review 76:Not know had to phone for a shuttle, stood an hour at Penn Station before we called. Can hear all the noise from the hall and neighbors.

Review 77:I liked the breakfast, location was good to NY.

Review 78:They placed us right next to the elevator I asked to be moved they said they would try to get another room and would call me back in 15 minutes but the never called. They told me the next morning that the hotel was fully booked. We heard the elevator travel up and down all night long. We were cold as there were no blankets on the bed, I found out the next morning we had to request one and they were just leaving them in a large bin beside the welcome desk in the lobby for guest to take themselves to their room. Our shower didn't work at all so we couldn't use it the first night or morning and it still wasn't working the next night. I had to ask again so that we could shower. Was very disappointed with my treatment

Review 79:Staff and location

Review 80:Breakfast - limited food choice and fair food quality. Shuttle transportation - Failed to provide regular service as mentioned in the web site. We waited at the designated area at 2230 for more than an hour and failed to have service. Finally we called the hotel twice for the service. So, please call the hotel once you arrive the waiting area.

Review 81:great location

Review 82:It was a tad dirty in the rooms beds were very dirty looking

Review 83:All the staff was so wonderful epically the shuttle drivers!! Close to the nj penn station which they drop you off-pick you up from for free! So easy?

Review 84:We really liked the location the fact that we could be picked up from the Pan Station by the shuttle, was very convenient. Was a little hesitant about the stay at Robertson Retreat, because of the reviews however for us it turned out to be a fine stay. The hotel was clean, mattress comfortable no problem what so ever. The only thing i wish, since i'm gluten intolerant, that you would have some gluten free bread for breakfast. Definitely i would recommended to my friends or stay here again

Review 85:When we first turned the water on in the sink there was a rotten smell. Not sure if it was the sewer or the water. The smell went away pretty quickly but happened everytime.

Review 86:the staff was friendly and helpful. They seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. The continental breakfast was delicious with many choices. The area was safe, ideal for our short walk to Penn Station. Also the airport shuttle was helpful (they also do Penn Station). I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Review 87:We did have a problem with the airport pick up, that required two phone calls to the hotel. The 6:00 shuttle in the morning back to the airport, left on time

Review 88:We were looking for a hotel that was close to the airport, as we had a very early flight the next morning. This hotel offers a free shuttle back and to the airport and is a good 10 minutes away situated in downtown Newark. The hotel was a bit of a surprise for a Best Western, as it is a vintage building that proudly once had 4 different presidents spend the night there going back to Woodrow Wilson.

Review 89:Mattress very uncomfortable. Woman's rest room in lobby was shamefully dirty.

Review 90:Closeness to Penn Station, first phone call, staff was not helpful, saying if we arrived an hour early we could not park there.

Review 91:Being used now as a Shelter hotel for social services.will not book here again due to caliber of people hanging outside..Also, no pool, inside or outside..

Review 92:Proximity to stores and Arts center.REeasonable prices and good food at in house Restaurant. Excellent full breakfast in the , morning, both days.

Review 93:Tub had someone else's body hair in it. Room was next to a really noisy elevator that kept us awake. The remote was broken to television & the television had a horrible picture.

Review 94:The bed was comfortable & it was close to the airport.

Review 95:When we left they didn't provide the shuttle bus in time and we had heavy luggages. It took us 20 min walking to Penn Station in the rain. Probably they have been too busy watching Comic con ! Lack of respect for customers.

Review 96:It was preaty clean.

Review 97:The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was convenient and saved a few dollars!! We had it everyday. Even my picky 6 year old enjoyed it.

Review 98:The location of the hotel is not good at all. At night it is difficult to walk from the metro station to the hotel. The staff was not helpful and friendly at the check-in.

Review 99:I like the room and the cleaning services. The breakfast was above the average.

Review 100:The room we were given was adjacent to the elevator, which was very noisy. When I mentioned this we were immediately given a quieter (and incidentally larger and more comfortable) room.

Review 101:rooms are very noisyrooms are very noisy, very noisy, staff very unfriendly on the reception

Review 102:we stay one night for an trip to nwe yor city, train connevtion to new york city is good, roomsize is good

Review 103:We arrived by bus in Newark Penn Station at 4 P.M., then we called usingskype and bus free wi-fi connection and asked then for a shuttle. Then, shuttle arrived in front of the crowded Station but it didn't stop.It passed so fast that we didn't have the time to reach it carrying4 heavy luggage bags. So, we waited to see if it would pass again infront of the station... Nothing. We had to find a public telephonenearby to call then again (not the easiest task). In the end, we waitedfor one hour and a half to get to the hotel (and the hotel is just 3-4blocks from the Penn Station!!!). And when I complained to the deskmanager about what happened he just shruged his shoulders and a clerksaid it was our fault that he didn't see us!!!! Bad shuttle service, bad front desk service, nice hotel.

Review 104:Bad insulation in my room on the sixth floor: I could hear the TV from the neighboring room which was left on all night and made it impossible for me to sleep. Also traffic noise from outside. Disappointing breakfast.

Review 105:Friendly staff and good shuttle service from the airport and to the train station. elegant room interior. gym.

Review 106:Noise: lift near the room, loud music at the wedding (12 floors below) on Saturday night Crowded breakfast area.

Review 107:Airport Shuttle Not far from Newark Penn station

Review 108:We stayed at the room 501 which is right next to the elevator, and the noise is really annoying. You ear every movement the elevator makes.

Review 109:We liked the staff a lot. Very kind people who helped us with everything we needed.

Review 110:No information about hotel/amenities etc. in room. There was supposed to be a binder. The front desk made a note for housekeeping, but never received binder.

Review 111:Good location.

Review 112:Rooms and fitout were very dated and the curtains did not close properly

Review 113:Hotel was in a good location and the room was very clean and bed comfortable. Staff were very friendly and free shuttle from the airport was great.

Review 114:The carpet was so dirty it turned my feet black and sticky after just briefly waking barefoot. The shower tub didn't drain.

Review 115:Staff changed our room from the smoking floor 6 even though the hotel was nearly full. Beautiful view of the NYC skyline. Very nice airport shuttle driver went out of his way for us.

Review 116:They didn't seem to really care that they didn't have the sim-card that I had had shipped to the hotel in advance. Had even sent an e-mail about it to the hotel which however remained unanswered. Said they didn't get it. So they didn't get the sim-card and they didn't get my e-mail either.....

Review 117:Wifi worked perfect. Walking distance to Penn Station.

Review 118:Location is in a downtown area which is pretty dead after 6pm with no grocery stores and only a Subway open nearby. Staff are indifferent. On arrival called front desk for the shuttle bus from Newark Penn Station 3 times, after 30 minutes ended up walking.

Review 119:Got a good night's rest in a one night stay to catch our connecting flight at Newark Airport. The airport shuttle is a useful service. A reasonable breakfast offering considering the price.

Review 120:Small room and breakfast lounge very small. Parking free but not a lot of space

Review 121:Friendly and helpful staff, free shuttle to train station (2 min drive away)

Review 122:The area from the hotel to Light rail was a little sketch at night for a walk. A lot of homeless people, but they did not bother you.

Review 123:The room my girlfriend and I stayed in was absolutly amazing. For 3 nights it was one heck of a deal! The room was spotless, breakfast was amazing, and the service was great. I was scared to book this hotel because the reviews were hit or miss, but this place is a 9.5/10 for me, and i have high standards for hotels.

Review 124:Robert Treat is an ok hotel - Beds comfortable and all that. I have stayed here before as it was the most convenient and asked for a quiet room, I got put next to the lift, I explained I had stayed before I wanted a room that I wouldn't need to complain about anything, they put me on a floor that was being repainted. Lacking yet again, sorry folks but that is like it is.

Review 125:The room wasn't very clean, the sink was clogged and the staff was very reluctant to help me with things as simple as how to get to an addresse in Manhattan. They don't even have a map of the subway lines.

Review 126:The location is reasonable when considering the price

Review 127:The staff were generally curt and unsmiling. Our room phone was out of order. We called front desk/ maintenance and were told someone will come to fix it. Nobody came - so we were without a working room phone for 3 days

Review 128:Location Free shuttle to and from the airport every half hour

Review 129:It was a good thing it was close to Penn Station. We only got to use the complementary shuttle once. Every other time it was busy. I think they should take names of who they are picking up, rather than just picking up people. Make sure they get everybody.

Review 130:The hotel was nice. Staff was friendly, for the most part. It was really close to Penn Station. Honestly a 10 min walk.

Review 131:Bad Breakfast - Room, not enough chairs and Tables, empty Coke-Machines on every floor

Review 132:Free parking, close to PATH - Train, silent although close to Airport

Review 133:Parking Lot - while free - is tight and sometimes cars are layered (you can get parked-in).

Review 134:Proximity to Train Station. Good Breakfast. View to Manhattan. Easy to get to from EWR. Not an airport or highway motel.

Review 135:This is very old hotel with a lot of renovation in place. The bathroom is old and small.

Review 136:The location is closed to Newark Penn station. The free parking. The shuttle to Penn station is convenient.

Review 137:Great location for the airport without all of the noise. Right near a park and Rutgers, there are many restaurants near by. Staff was great. Room was clean and pleasant with a great sitting area and view. Parking was free! The parking attendant was delightful and helped us a great deal.
