Reviews for The Queen Mary

Review 1:The walls are really thin (it is a ship, after all). I had to contend with screaming babies one night and a woman fighting with someone the other. Seriously, you hear everything. Also, the bathtub has a slight bow to it - I had to stand in the shower with one foot in front of the other.

Review 2:I liked being on the ship - a piece of history with lots of places to explore.

Review 3:It was freezing inside the room and in the restaurant as well. I called the front desk and was told there was not a way to make it warmer in 1 room as the temperature was controlled in blocks of rooms. I don't know if any other guests had this problem but my aunt and I had adjoining rooms and both were very cold. They did bring us an extra blanket but we could have used about 3 more.

Review 4:Helpful friendly staff. Cute room, nicely restored.

Review 5:We loved staying aboard the Queen Mary. Our room was very comfortable and our dinner at Sir Winston's restaurant was superb. The ship is a rhapsody in Art Deco - sure, she is showing her age in some respects but we fully expected that. It was a great experience, conjuring up visions of a by-gone age.

Review 6:The bed was not quite comfortable, the different ship events opened as late as they did. Missed them as we had to leave before they opened

Review 7:The uniqueness, the history. Rooms were very quiet, beautiful night view of the shore. Meal was delicious!

Review 8:My husband had wheelchair they gave us room at far end of ship no elevators on thst end !! Long walk to front desk to elevator ! They said out handicap rooms on thst end!! Made no sense !! You had to walk the entire length of ship to find elevator we did Not need handicap room !! I went to front desk and said this is not acceptable !! They moved us to room near elevator much better good Er went to a lounge for a drink looking for music it was at front of ship the people were do loud and we had to go outside deck even the wsitress could not hear to take our order we had to pay $20 parking not much to do on ship l Not that good

Review 9:Knowing it was used in the war history my dad was on ship coming back from england

Review 10:Menus in all restaurants appear to have a reduced choice since our last visit. Quite a few areas under renovation and inaccessible, again since our previous visit. Unable to upgrade to Chill experience.

Review 11:Historic information and photos. Relaxed atmosphere.

Review 12:$20.00 parking with no hotel voucher. Ouch.

Review 13:We stayed in a deluxe cabin with twin beds. I loved the authenticity and grandeur of the room. It was was clean and comfortable. As a guest you are allowed to roam the ship, with only a few areas off limits. The hallways and ship itself are a little creepy. If you let your imagination get the best of you it's pretty easy to get spooked! My oldest son swore he heard a "shuffling" sound inside room 340, supposedly the most haunted room on the ship and out of service permanently to guests. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 14:Even though we ordered breakfast off the menu, it still came from the buffet.

Review 15:The historical aspect was very interesting. I enjoyed seeing the woodwork throughout the ship.

Review 16:Beds and pillows were uncomfortable. Cool air blowing on me in bed. I called front desk and was told "it is an old ship" and it would tske 10 minutes but no heat. I had to wear warm clothes to bed and pile pillows over head to keep warm. No blankets. I was thankful for hot water to have bath and warm up.

Review 17:Historical aspect good. Food good. Staff friendly. Immediate hot water in bathroom.

Review 18:Poor condition throughout. Bathroom was dingy and in very poor repair. Bedroom was in terrible condition. People smoking in adjacent cabin. TV was old and the mattress was sagging. No kettle for tea making facilities.

Review 19:History and nostalgia.

Review 20:Lunch our first day after check in was very long-the wait was almost an hour and the food took about 35 minutes to arrive. My husband choose shrimp Alfredo and found the shrimp still had the tails on them. Everything in LA was busy due to the Rose Bowl though. All of our other meals were exquisite, served quickly and were a good value. My husband notices the need for upkeep (peeling paint) and repairs to the ship and lack of cleanliness on the decks. A ship of any size-but especially a large one like this must be cleaned and painted frequently. The interior and rooms were spotless and polished though. Long Beach port is never really easy to get in and out of, but where else are you going to dock a ship of this size?

Review 21:I personally loved my stay on board this ship and will do it again in a heartbeat, but do your homework and don't have unrealistic expectations. This ship really speaks to you-so go with the right mindset and listen up. Fantastic historic tours. I highly recommend the walking audio tour. Lots of things to do and see-plan for 2 days to do it all. Gorgeous views. 1 outdoor smoking deck on the ship-this is REALLY important to smokers! Great food opportunities. Great wine tasting room. While historic, it still exudes an aire of serious luxury. The use of so many luxurious woods is absolutely lovely!-you won't see anything like it in modern hotels anywhere. See the ship model room-it even has the titanic in it! Be prepared for the bathrooms-while some modernization is available, most of it remains as it always was. No phones in rooms, no refrigerators, coffee makers or microwaves either. Starbucks is on board though. The engine room is a definite must see...check out the view of one of the ships screws (propellers)-so large and deep in the teal waters within the hull, plus the lighting made it appear almost haunting and eerie in its silence. Tons of stairs to climb, but elevators are available. If you don't do any other historic tours-definitely do this one-it is worth it. No matter where you go on board, you can really feel the history deep in her bones. Staff were very friendly, professional, and eager to please. You got the sense that they all actually enjoyed working there.

Review 22:Hidden fees.. Everything is over priced.. Things seemed run down but they could take better care to make it look authentic.Things close to early and no late night snacks..

Review 23:The authentic history of the ship..

Review 24:20 dollar parking, 10 dollar drinks 17 bucks for breakfast. The rooms are reasonable but they get you like a theme park on everything else. The staff is okay but they could do a better job of keeping the place cosmetically dialed in and maybe run the operation with more of a nautical theme. They seem like they are in a rut. So cool that this thing is still in service as a hotel the staff and management should give it the awe it deserves.

Review 25:It's the queen mary, very cool history, fun place overall.

Review 26:This was a beautiful experience staying here at the Queen Mary. It has one of the most awesome places I've ever stayed, the cleanness of the place was exceptional!

Review 27:Our room was ALL the way at the opposite end of the ship long walk with luggage. If it hadn't been for booking.com's rate being substantially lower that the regular rate for the room, we would of stayed somewhere else. The additional fee totalled to over 20% of the actual room fee! "Resort fee", parking fee, etc.

Review 28:Shower water pressure was AWESOME! Large bathroom. Bed was super comfortable! Loved the port hole view.

Review 29:Walls were thin so could hear people in other rooms talking. Especially children at 11.00 pm slamming doors and being loud. Business centre computer didn't work - couldn't pay for any time to use it.

Review 30:Comfy bed, tour of ship and friendly staff.

Review 31:My biggest complaint is that the entire ship, except our room was way way to cold. Even the restaurant felt like there was AC on. Also I feel that if you are a hotel guest parking was way to high. To make it worse they charged two dollars MORE because we valeted our car.

Review 32:Loved the ship. Unfortunately we were only there as of 5pm and checked out 10AM the next morning. So didn’t get to do a lot. We ate dinner and breakfast in the Promenade Cafe and the food was excellent, although a little pricey.

Review 33:Reception staff and not explaining charges clearly, watch out they add up !

Review 34:The nostalgia of staying on the Queen Mary gives you just a glimpse of what it must have been like and obviously links to that of the Titanic. Great stories by the tour guides. Churchill planned Normandy Invasion on board in his bath !!!!

Review 35:Wish I had booked an extra night didn't want to leave.

Review 36:Was a great experience and definitely a must stay for at least a one time trip. I know I will stay again and again if my experience keeps being like this, bed was so comfortable room was surprisingly spacious stayed on M deck, this is the deck you want to stay in! Facilities around are nice the view is impressive. Super quiet at night thin walls were not a problem!

Review 37:We would have loved to dine on the Queen Mary but for us (vegan) there was absolutely nothing available. That's why we had to leave the boat for dinner and come back later. Also $20 for parking is a lot and should be included in the rates.

Review 38:Liked the decoration of the boat. Very christmasy.

Review 39:Holiday sales pitch trying to give away free lunch

Review 40:Historic connection, interesting exhibitions on board. Beautiful grandeur of a bygone era. Sir Winston's Restaurant recommended.

Review 41:I can clearly hear every word and every cough of my neighbors (yes, I can hear what people always do in hotel as well, clear and loud). One day a neighbor checked out with TV on, I cannot fall asleep at all that night, I complained with security on call at 3:00AM, then they told me that they already warned the owner of that room. --- But no one's living in that room. They solve the issue at 4:00AM. I was able to hear sound of steps upon me as well!

Review 42:The hotel have good view to ocean (when you select a room facing the ocean). And there's a free shuttle from the hotel to long beach downtown as well.

Review 43:Restaurunt closed early and no other late entertainment music or a small coffee shop. Deli to shop for. Food. We had to drive off the location to eat else ware.

Review 44:We liked the over all experience and the freedom to walk around.

Review 45:Everything was dirty in the bathroom we had mold Flys disgusting sheetssmelled old horrible experience I want my money back!!

Review 46:Only chill which was not in the queen mary

Review 47:Didn't get too much sleep because the room was small and you could hear your neighbor. We could hear all their conversations as if they were staying with us. Also, curtains over portholes needed a good cleaning.

Review 48:The location to Chill and taking tours on the boat was great. A different experience for the kids.

Review 49:It was a singularly uncomfortable and acutely unpleasant experience. The hotel itself is very shabby and low class. The bathroom in the room was in the state of most abominable disrepair. I made photographs of delapidated bathtub and leaking toilet. The stateroom partitions are so thin one could hear not only every word of conversation in the adjacent rooms, but even the soft snoring of the neighbour. The loutish crowds of partying groups were making loud noise well after 1 o'clock in the morning. I cannot say enough bad things to warn people relying on misrepresentation of the hotel in the advertisements.

Review 50:The staff was courteous and responsive.

Review 51:I requested a room with a view of the water- instead I was given a room with a view of the parking lot, directly above the trash where bottles were dumped into the dumpsters all night long.

Review 52:I was disappointed with how loud the parties were in the halls and how my room vibrated until midnight due to music (but I understand it's the holiday) just was a very long day and wanted to sleep

Review 53:I will forever love the ship. The history brings me back again and again

Review 54:paper thin walls in cabin not any restaurants in walking distance of hotel making it expensive to eat on boat

Review 55:nice to see what was luxury in the the hay day of sail travel was like . Location next door to Carnival terminal

Review 56:It was well over priced. The room towels looked still like the original towels. The room was uncared for and unclean. The word 'original' does not mean neglect. The ship has been brought down to some sort of show freck. If it was possible to humiliate a ship, this is a humiliation. Any offers of 'an upgrade' are just a way of getting more cash out of the public. I would not recommend the hotel and I would not stay in it again. I should be marked down as a 2 star. I was saddened to see this ship being brought down to such a low state.

Review 57:It was very close to Carnival Cruise ship departure point. You can just walk to the ship.

Review 58:The people next to our room were very loud and they kept us up the whole night

Review 59:The staff was excellent very nice and happy to be there. Definitely going back =-).

Review 60:The rooms were OK the bathroom had some mold on the tub, there was not enough towels, the bed had some dark stains we had our own blankets we had to lay on top of the bed. Some of the pillows had hairs coming out the covers. There was also a party going on on the floor above us and you can hear all the music trough our floor as if we were in the party.

Review 61:I liked the fact that the staff was friendly, and helpful. The boat is beautiful and you can walk around. Guess also get discounts on their tours.

Review 62:without a doubt the dirtiest place hotel I have stayed at. My room was infested with ants! In my toothbrush shampoo and clothing!

Review 63:Friendly helpful staff!!

Review 64:Staying on the Queen Mary is like going back in time. She truly is the Grand Dame of yesteryear's luxury cruise liners! We also really liked taking the free audio tour!

Review 65:Great experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The tours were great! We stayed here the night before a cruise, it was an outstanding choice. We walked right over to the cruise terminal and onto the rest of vacation. We will be back!

Review 66:Although I have requested a baby crib for my one year old, they didn't have one. They said they have one that was broken !!! So we couldn't stay overnight because my baby didn't have a place to stay When I tried to cancel the stay they insisted that I pay full amount I insisted that I will not pay because it's not safe for my baby to spend the night here. After arguing they reduced payment to 50%. The manager said since the crib is free they are not obliged to provide one ! I refused to pay and eventually they agreed to cancel the whole stay The room was poor and I would rate as at 2 stars max The bathroom is old and malfunctioning The place was dusty It's the worst hotel that I stayed in !

Review 67:The fact that it's a historic place Valet parking staff were nice and helpful

Review 68:The bathroom plumbing fixtures need repainting behind the toliet, the hardware needs cleaning and polishing. Even the wooden area under the medicine cabinet needs painting. I realize it is a historic vessel, but it hasn't been maintained well. The window curtains didn't close so parking lights shined in, hard to sleep. Lamp not plugged in and I didn't get to fix my hair as a result for the wedding due to time and couldn't wait for the iron to heat up after finding the plug wasn't in the wall.

Review 69:The bellman Cesar- he was a life saver to get everything from the loading dock to the rooms necessary for the wedding. Extremely patient with me and listened well!

Review 70:Staff arrogant , dirtiest room in months, money traps everywhere, lot of rules and smallprints. Very disappointed with quality of service, lost all old days charm. Waste of history heritage under poor management.

Review 71:Historical background. Glory of old days.

Review 72:Overall great. The only minuses would be: - great location, but there is nothing else there in terms of stores (within walking distance). You have to drive into Long Beach for that. - the walls are not strong in terms of sound proofing. We could hear the rooms on both sides of us, one was particularly clear. This was early in the evening, so it didn't bother us - actually we were amused by it. Luckily by the time we went to bed, it was quiet. - We love the fact that there are so many original items in the room and bathroom. However, the bathtub in our room was in sore need of refurbishing. ...keep the original pieces, but restore them from time to time. this would make the room immaculate. (certainly not every room has a bathtub in this condition).

Review 73:The sense of history is great. I was surprised at how much of the room was original. Even the outdated items are present - like a fan, the old knobs on the tub (Salt water, fresh water, etc). The sink is original. The room was much more spacious than expected. I was expecting a small, submarine-like experience. But it was quite large. ...lots of closet space, some counter space, a little bar counter, a small table w two chairs where you can sit and read or have tea or a cocktail under the portholes (which you can open). We had some cocktails and a snack at the bar. It's a beautiful vintage wooden room. WiFi was strong and no extra charge. TV had many channels including some premium channels. We loved it.

Review 74:some bits could do with a make over but still keep the charm

Review 75:Very quaint and 'olde worlde' place...lots of character...lovely restaurants (sir winston's and chowder house) convenient free buses to long beach and metro...

Review 76:Over priced Expensive parking with no other choice. Charge for wifi Bar served wine in a plastic cup just because it was 30 minutes to closing time and the barman was too lazy to wash up.

Review 77:Rom was large but cold.

Review 78:we could not figure out how to adjust the air in the room-it never came on and we wanted it to sleep--it would have also helped with the noise from the dark harbor

Review 79:beautiful place-loved staying on it

Review 80:Very noisy, could hear everything in room next door, even zips on suitcase. The Marine Corp were celebrating with a party with music that vibrated through whole ship. It was not that clean, with remains of previous guests egg on bedding. Very much in need of repair - yes I know it's an old ship, but there are standards. Finally no complimentary tea, coffee or even water. We asked a member of staff if it is ok to drink the water in the taps, but she said she wouldn't, as pipes so old. Bottled Water was available at 3.5 dollars for 500ml. Breakfast wasn't included and the restaurant costs were high, so we caught passport bus into the train station, where we found Java Junction - a great place for breakfast.

Review 81:It was conveniently situated on the Passport Bus route into town. We were upgraded to a room with windows, but for the price we were paying, in a normal hotel, you would have a window anyway.

Review 82:The ship is looking a bit shabby these days - needs a lot of maintenancework - a shame, as the old girl deserves better. I paid an extra $20 anight for a better view but due to windows being covered with silicate, didn't really get one (hotel refunded half the cost after Icomplained); $20 per night parking fee is expensive. Beware additionaltaxes - they add quite a lot to the cost of the stay.

Review 83:Our second stay on the Queen Mary, and we stayed in king state room.Very comfortable bed; lovely original features. The qm is a realexperience. The art deco bar on the promenade deck is a realexperience, with great cocktails. Churchills restaurant is expensivebut food very good. I asked for a fridge, which was delivered quicklyat no additional charge.

Review 84:All the additional costs that we did not expect. The hotel is in poor condition badly in need of improving its decor carpets paintwork etc.

Review 85:The experience of staying in a a museum

Review 86:Dad had ants in his bathroom, no one came to correct after many calls to the front desk. Maid service was severely lacking. Room service trays not removed from breakfast. Restaurants closed for private functions many times. Older boat with many issues.

Review 87:Room service staff very friendly, helpful and quick. We enjoyed the interesting memorabilia on board.

Review 88:We had a king suite that was on the port side. There were VERY LOUD dock noises ALL NIGHT LONG. We had to have the port holes open because there wasn't any a/c in our room and the room was hot and stuff. Housekeeping didn't leave any soap. Front desk clerk didn't know when Sunday Brunch started. Just lots of little things that added up to an "OK" visit. For the price, we were expecting a lot more.

Review 89:The Queen Mary itself was pretty cool. We were able to do an early check in.

Review 90:extra costs for tours on the ship, housekeeping early on half past seven in the morning, bill was unter the door (the night was a present for my girlfriend...), very thin walls, you hear your neighbour coughing :( the ship is better for a day trip

Review 91:charme of an old ship

Review 92:All we wanted is a cup of hot chocolate and we were sent from place to place, until we finally gave up and ordered it in our room and took it out to the deck. Customer service needed a little boost.

Review 93:The history of the who place including the rooms which have original wood and desks/dressers.

Review 94:I thought the food at the restaurant was only fair for the price

Review 95:Enjoyed the experience of the old world charm of the ship and able to walk around the ship during my stay

Review 96:We couldn't control the temperature in our room... turns out the window was open and didn't close. We had an ocean view... it was super cold.

Review 97:I loved the beauty and history of the ship. Great staff... friendly if you asked for information... left you alone if you didn't ask for help. Pretty good at reading people's interests.

Review 98:Very thin (80 yrs old) walls. Outside Halloween carnival till 1:00 a.m., equals little sleep. But still worth the experience!

Review 99:Staff, historical aspect, tour of the ship included in price.

Review 100:We had NO air conditioning in our cabin our entire stay. We were finally provided a fan to try and keep us cool. What a joke. I reported this to a number of employees and it didn't seem to matter. I would NEVER recommend anyone staying here and paying the price for inconveniences. Fill the soda machines so I don't have to search all over the place for a cold drink.

Review 101:Close to Carnival for our cruise and the parking lot staff was good.

Review 102:although I paid for a Deluxe King, I was told at checkin that a view of the downtown area would be another $30 per night. This was a disappointment and reflected overall that the Queen Mary is overpriced as are all the restaurants aboard. we chose to eat elselwhere.

Review 103:Location close to Carnival, free Passport bus to town, Historic info and flavor

Review 104:The staff weren't particularly engaging. We arrived about 9pm,staying here during a long trip around the states and asked about the additional experiences such as the submarine and audio tour. The receptionist failed to mention the length of the audio tour, which was a shame because we had to drive 8 hours the next day so planning was key (which we did actually mention upon checking in) . We were also advised the sub tour was booked out but it wasn't until the next morning we found it was actually being renovated.

Review 105:The Queen Mary is legendary, the history and setting of the hotel speaks for itself.

Review 106:Food and drink are very expensive. The fire alarm went off again, although it wasn't the middle of the night this time!

Review 107:This is the 3rd time we have stayed on the Queen Mary. The location is great and the surroundings are unique. We came for Dark Harbour again, which is just the most fun!

Review 108:Thin-thin walls in average rooms - you can hear neighbors whisper, snoring, and showering. No food after 22:00. Bar is open till 00:00, but the cocktails are $13 each + tax, and the choice is poor. Fire alarm went off at 7am - had to get up and almost leave the room. Room and parking ($20) are overpriced too.

Review 109:Queen Mary is old, but great. Various tours and entertainment (during the day only!)

Review 110:We found the room a little too cold for us and couldn't change the temperature but this did not spoil our night at this hotel. Parking could be better signed when other events are being held like the big fair that was there when we came.

Review 111:Loved the atmosphere, unusual hotel being a huge ship, large state rooms and history tours

Review 112:Very, very disappointed! Coming from London the standard was very poor -light bulbs (3) we're not working, knob in bathroom missing, restaurant closing 7 pm, overlooking (cabin) car park,

Review 113:History tour.

Review 114:The facilities are definitely showing their age. The bathroom was definitely very ''tired'' and probably very difficult for the housekeeping staff to maintain to a good level eg wall covering peeling, bath surface very worn, tapware surfaces worn off, having to pay for drinking water in room when the tapwater was undrinkable,

Review 115:The bed was comfortable.

Review 116:The queen Mary was hosting a Halloween fright night th e night I stayed at the hotel. With no thought to th hotel guests at all we were booked it to a room right next to this event. Having returned from the restaurant at 10pm after a average over priced meal the screams were so loud it sounded like the event was happening in our room. We phoned th desk who at fist shockingly offers us ear plugs. Having call the desk 3 more times we were moved to another slightly less noisy room and finally got to bed at 11:30pm. Do not stay in this hotel the walls are very fin and you can all shear every thing happening in the next room/ bathroom. Not very nice. Instead just go for a tour around the boat.

Review 117:Leaving

Review 118:Paper thin walls; room was double charged; Diana exhibit staff did not give the appropriate 50% discount for hotel guest; Tea Room closes at 4:00 pm !?!

Review 119:Unusual and interesting site; well planned exhibits; take a full afternoon to see the whole ship; restaurants fine, but not exceptional.

Review 120:I thought that the outside event ( Halloween/horror show) looked tacky and detracted from the classy image we found once inside the ship.

Review 121:Amazing sense of history, fascinating place to stay - unique experience. Really good balance between tradition and modern facilities.

Review 122:In some areas the ship is showing it's age. Some of the paneling are beginning to peal.

Review 123:The freedom to move about the different areas of the ship with no restrictions. The attempt to keep the ship in original condition.

Review 124:I was unhappy with the way they put a hold on $75 extra of your money for incidentals in your account and don't release that hold for 5-7 business days. But other than that everything was perfect.

Review 125:It's very loud. No insulation between the walls. We could hear everything that was going on in the rooms next to us. The lights in our room turned on in the middle of the night...

Review 126:Great historical hotel. Restaurants were excellent.

Review 127:insufficient amenities in the room, no complimentary drink, no fridge, no toothbrush/ toothpaste, staff's service wasn't any exceptional air-con control on the wall was spoilt

Review 128:the historic story behind this retired ship

Review 129:We took a tour as we wanted to picture the swimming baths as on our last visit we couldn't on our last visit as it was shut and although we mentioned this at the desk we were told we couldn't take pictures, and also as the previous visit the submarine was shut which was very disappointing , and we have just had the credit card bill and where we were told it will cost $72 for the night we have been billed for a total of $124 , I have emailed them with no answer yet

Review 130:Looks good and very nostalgic

Review 131:I didn't like that the walls were very thin. You could hear the guest next to us as if they were in our own room.

Review 132:I liked the history of the location, and our room was very quaint.

Review 133:The noise outside from their halloween horror maze was deafening. Noise continued until past three in the morning with clean up crew working. Also very pricey for what you actually get

Review 134:Staying on a historical vessel. Great views

Review 135:The biggest disappointment to me is the exterior appearance of the Queen Mary. It's paint has faded by years of neglect. I think it's a shame that the owners have allowed it to happen. To me there is a difference between historic and dilapidated.

Review 136:I liked the nostalgia of the ship with all its rich history. I liked the way it was kept original as possible to keep it memories alive.

Review 137:The restaurant food is not of high quality, which is a shame because once you arrive, without a car, you are kind of captive.

Review 138:How well the ship has been preserved is amazing. The staff are very friendly.

Review 139:Wifi very poor, very slow and poor connection, continuously dropping and failing to stay connected. Good as useless. View from room was non existent. Looking over dock side.

Review 140:Just different. Not like being in an ordinary hotel. Glamorous and original surroundings. Loved audio tour of ship. A very special place to stay. Would definitely recommend.

Review 141:Not a good place for business travel, difficult to get in and out, only one electrical outlet (in the bathroom), no desk. Not set up for business travel. No water pressure, not able to take a shower.

Review 142:Bathroom wasnt as clean as Id expect. Most tours were at an additional cost even for residents. Would benefit from a pool on board.Couldnt view some areas on audio tour as filming was going on and submarine tour wasnt available either.

Review 143:Great historical settings
