Reviews for Hawks Cay Resort
Review 1:Meals on site quite expensive. We had double room 2 king beds with balcony, stayed in the main building convenient to the main pool and restaurants, in the mornings there were a lot of cleaner trolleys in hallway taking up space. I'd suggest keep these out of sight as much as possible!
Review 2:Hawks Cay is amazing! It has everything you need on site. Excellent facilities, service and valet parking. we really enjoyed the pool and marina. Dream location! Perfect for kids with splash pool and kids club area Pirate ship was a big hit! Great location as you're half way down the keys, so smart base for trips in either direction. We loved our stay - definitely going back one day!
Review 3:I didn't like that when we order a. Mahi Mahi sandwich and pizza it should not have taken 20 plus minutes to get our food. When I got my Mahi Mahi sandwich the fish was cold and hard. We were sitting outside by the tiki bar.
Review 4:That it was family oriented and not limited to any age range.
Review 5:Remote location that resulted in a drive to do anything off the resort. Resort prices were too high. Housekeeping is poor. Trash sat in hallway for three days while I was there (i.e. Pizza boxes and beer bottles).
Review 6:Nice large room.
Review 7:We had to cut short our stay due to a death. When we asked for our one night stay room they made us wait too long and I told the woman we need to get in our room. She put us in a room over the front parking lot. I had a much nicer room booked originally. The bath tub is difficult to get into and out of!. Room #2313! So, it was not great but OK. If I was to stay another night, I would have made her change that room. If the Manager had anything to do with it, then they suck!c
Review 8:Lots of space on the property with a few pools. The fire pit was a nice welcome because we had terrible weather!
Review 9:Very noisy building. Can hear everything that happens outside the rooms. The hotel have a lot of options, suck as having an encounter with dolphins. The problem is that everything is extra. And the cost for everything is overrated. The beds are very soft.
Review 10:The room was not what I would expect for the price. It was dark and borderline dingy with a run down bathroom that didn't appear to be very clean. The glassware was hidden in the closet and the towels were thin. The clientele at the resort was also not as expected for the price.
Review 11:Location. Number of pools and activities
Review 12:The two bedroom subset villa we stayed was dated, nothing impressive. Didn't like that they wouldn't offer in-the-room breakfast.
Review 13:Location is great, the bar staff was wonderful, Alma restaurant was terrific every dish was perfectly done!
Review 14:Every item was an additional charge, it seemed like the resort took a lot of gratuities and service charges, and they didn't go to staff, so we had to tip on top of those extra fees. It just cheapened the experience. For instance, a $22 valet fee was included in the resort fee, but then bikes were $10 an hour. In room dining had a $4 service charge, plus 18-20% gratuity(which didn't go to staff) plus your tip.
Review 15:facilities were clean, staff was incredibly friendly and gracious. Great stay over all!
Review 16:The resort has everything for activities and it is all very well organized. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The food in the restaurant is also very good. The kids enjoyed their stay and thus everyone was happy.
Review 17:I was suffering from an asthma attack due to allergies. The morning we were checking out we looked under the bed in case we left anything only to find that there was 2 inches of dust on the floor were the vacuum couldn't get to. Once we left the hotel my breathing went back to normal.
Review 18:The resort facilities were outstanding. They didn't forget about anything. The pool was open 24 hours and the huge bonfire kept everything cozy at night. They even had Santa visit us there.
Review 19:our condo was cramped, furniture in bedroom was not appropriate size for the room size. bathroom was also too small. the nightstand bedside the bed blocked 60% of the doorway to the bathroom! clearly no thought had been given to buying furniture that actually fits the room. the whole condo had a one-size-fits-all feel to it. I do not like having $200.00 held against my card for incidentals.....pointless, no matter for what reason.
Review 20:Didn't think much of unhealthy menus. Staff served coffee without spoons. Not too professional . Staff need a bit more polish
Review 21:Everything !! wonderful place to suit all ages . Hundreds of activities! Stayed in 3 bed house. Extremely clean.
Review 22:staff was not very helpful change upon arrival resort change my reservation with notifing us or giving us chance to change our plans. food overprice for what we got
Review 23:location was great .resort offered plenty to do
Review 24:I didn't like that during the live music it was interrupted with line dancing. This would have been enjoyable and was at first bc it was appropriate for all ages. But, the leader of the activity was trying to impress a teenager and started to allow the teenager to choose inappropriate dance music. It was inappropriate for a mixed crowd (young children and teenagers alike and people didn't seem amused). At that point it was the leader and only 2 teenagers dancing inappropriately. Everyone else stopped dancing, turned their backs to the dancing and waited for the live music to start again with enthusiastic clapping when it started again.
Review 25:Great central location, very friendly and welcoming staff, wonderful amenities for adults and children, great ambience (fire ring, live music, Santa visit)
Review 26:No complaints! We had a wonderful, relaxing stay and will definitely return!
Review 27:Beautiful Christmas decorations both inside and outside property (loved the poinsettias planted beneath the palm trees). Extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating staff throughout the property including front desk, bike rentals, poolside, and gift shop. Loved having Starbucks coffee shop on-site! Property was very clean and grounds well maintained and beautifully manicured. From our poolside balcony, we observed staff continually maintaining the property, cleaning pools, etc. early in the morning without interfering with guests' relaxation. Beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable! Loved watching the Dolphins during feeding time. Lcation of property is ideal for visiting several other islands in the Keys or watching the sunset from Key West.
Review 28:Complained on first day of five and nothing was rectified.barely got compensation for troubles with four small children.
Review 29:Restaurant staff was nice and pool and location were great for small children
Review 30:The daily resort tax is excessive but in keeping with the Keys area! A lack of mid-range evening dining options at the hotel forced us to look elsewhere, but these might be addressed with a new restaurant opening soon? It is a personal view, but I think the 'Dolphin Connection' is now well out of date with conservation best practices - it has relatively small pools/cages and should be replaced by a 'wild' dolphin experience and the high value space right next to the hotel family pools used for more family orientated watersports facilities.
Review 31:Great location roughly half way down the Keys from Miami to Key West enabling easy day trip to Key West and more local attractions to the tourist hub of Key West. Separate adults only tranquility pool for a more relaxing experience with easy access to hotel room and central services. Good breakfast and dinner restaurant. Free parking!
Review 32:We hated the food and the bed. The bed was lumpy and old offering no support. The food was tasteless, overpriced and not fresh. Very disappointing.
Review 33:We liked the location of our room by the Tranquility pool.
Review 34:Nothing much else around Duck Key so had to pay inflated prices in the restaurant at the r sort. Food was good fortunately.
Review 35:Good location in central Keys. Transport in the resort excellent. Staff great.
Review 36:all the add on costs, nothing covered by resort fee, not bicycles, not kayaks. codt of dolphin experience excessive, far far better value at nearby "theathre of the sea"
Review 37:amazing location
Review 38:Not the best vlaue for money. In general, a bit on the high end in regards of pricing. A 4 star rated hotel should provide a bit more comfort. the room was not cleaned the first day, we had to ask. The room was not "garden view", but into the backyard of the kitchen. afterwards, I found out that the discount was not ~50%, but only about 10%. The room was very noisy, you could follow all conversations (and norting) in all rooms around.
Review 39:The pool areas and the lagoon are beautiful! The food was nice, all fresh made, even the for the kids meals. Free towels in all pool areas, mostly friendly staff. Very clean in general.
Review 40:Location is remote - 7 miles from nearest restaurants, further to shops. If you don't notice that it is by mile marker 61, then it is very difficult to find. Extraordinary that the large resort website has no directions!
Review 41:This was a luxury hotel, extensive pools, variety of eating options, dolphin pools and performances and whatever you may think of keeping dolphins like this, it did add interest to the stay.
Review 42:Bartender on the late evening Dec 1 at the outside Tiki Bar by the conference center had a basketball game on and when asked to please change the channel to a music station , he refused. He was a nightmare and we would not go back to that bar . He was a smart mouth, lousy host. He should be respectful of guests. Not one person at the bar was watching the game it him!! The front desk is not experienced.
Review 43:Rooms Room service Facilities Valet park attendents
Review 44:There was a lack of staff, we got a two bedroom villa for 6 poeople with no bedding for the pullout, no wi fi in the room, the dishwasher didn't work for 5 nights, no soap, sponge and i complained on the first day. lack of towels from Sunday to Tuesday. Also, there was no distinct guidance of what was going on for children except for a ditto they gave you at check in. All changed with the weather and attendance, but didn't promote it or advertized daily. You had to figure everything out for your self. just like being home for me, not such a vaca.
Review 45:The pool and the location
Review 46:No internet even if they say they have it Everything you pay for ($40 per day)is closed at 5:30pm you can not use any of the facilities except main pool All of the activities are not free and overpriced kayak paddle Dolphins ...
Review 47:The location is one hour from key west but it is pretty
Review 48:All the groundwork being done outside and this was our view from our balcony too, dirty restaurant with rude staff just wanting to get you out fast!!
Review 49:Starbucks coffee being available. Nothing else ?
Review 50:Uneducated staff at front desk, Phones in our harbour villa did not work, requested a king size bed and received a villa with a queen. We also booked a villa with a balcony and ours did not have a balcony. We could not get room service because villa phones did not work and were told that all room service needed to be done through the rooms phone we then had to travel 14 miles (Each way) into town just to find a place that was open (McDonald's). i called from the my personal cell phone at the villa and was placed on hold for 20 minutes just told be hung up on by another staff member. Extremely dissatisfied for the price!
Review 51:Extremely clean, just how it looked it pictures beautiful facility!!
Review 52:The limited wi-fi which allow you only to open their website. The mattresses were roman rack torture devices, first thing I did when I got there was get a message after sleeping on their bed I needed another message. Most be how they drum up business.
Review 53:The staff was nice. The concept of having all the things you can do in one place is a good one. The food was great.
Review 54:Expensive breakfast. Go to the store in the Marina for a cheaper alternative.
Review 55:The salt water lagoon is beautiful and the hotel facilities are superb. All the staff are very friendly and there is an awesome tennis coach. Try out Sparkys landing and Lazy days for great local food/fish.
Review 56:The room was very shabby the blinds in double room where broken, cupboard in the ensuite broken, no bedding for the pull out bed, splash pool looked dirty,no shade on the outside light/fan clocks an hour behind notchangedwhen the clocks were changed no kettle in the kitchen area.
Review 57:The location is great for exploring the keys usually stay in islamarada but due to staying in orlando with friends we decided to stay here as always driven by and thought we would try it
Review 58:The onsite shop was very expensive and had very limited groceries. Our worse experience was with the way we were treated by the management team. After a warning not to drink the water we were told to contact the reception for bottled water. This never arrived even after three attempts. We bought our own. When we complained to the management they completely ignored us. Clearly they do not care about there guests. We were quite disgusted and would never return to Hawks Cove.
Review 59:The house we stayed in was very comfortable and had good facilities. It faced the bay and the sunsets were beautiful.
Review 60:Dusty dirty cobwebs on a/c vent Plaster bad in bathroom behind toilet Booger on bathroom wall Bobby pins on floor Makes you Question sanitation of all items creeps you out Simple solutions needed for good reviews Unacceptable cleanliness Especially for price
Review 61:The dead cocroach in the living room.
Review 62:We stayed in a villa, had an awesome pool right in front of it, and given the fact that the resort was pretty empty, no one was there.
Review 63:Breakfast was a bit on the expensive side. Currently undergoing construction at the main entrance, but it didn't bother me personally, more so of an eye sore- it will be beautiful like the rest of the resort once it is finished.
Review 64:Loved the lagoon! You might want to consider bringing some snorkel gear with you. I brought my own anyway for other snorkeling purposes but unfortunately there was not any at this resort to buy or rent for some of the other guests. The lagoon has some marine life to explore as well kayak and paddleboards to use for free! The Dolphins on site next to the lagoon was an added bonus; even if you don't do a one on one experience you can still get a good view of them doing tricks with the trainers!
Review 65:room was tired - the fixtures and fittings are cheap. rooms are quite small too. Lots of things needed fixing eg broken light switch, cracked tiles, iron burn on carpet etc etc. Not good enough for a 4 star hotel. Food and drinks are very expensive, although the food is good. Charging $40 a day resort charge is cheeky too
Review 66:Amazing location and setting with beautiful grounds. Great pools and waterfront
Review 67:I didn't like the Alma restaurant. Too reduced and overvalued menu. The wifi signal is horrible all over the resort, in my room I couldn't get it working.
Review 68:Location is good, nice pools and nice salt water lake. There is a few activities for kids.
Review 69:The resort fee added whether or not you have a chance to really use the extra facilities (which we didn't for a short stay - 2 nights but only one day). Desk staff seemed indifferent and the car park valet guy was overly abrupt.
Review 70:The location half way along the Keys.
Review 71:The food and drinks provided by the resort were overpriced. You could drive a couple miles away and get the same thing for a third of the price. I feel the resort is charging too much for convenience.
Review 72:Loved the adult pool and the friendly staff. Super peaceful location and not to far from key west.
Review 73:Rather expensive. Breakfast for $22 is a little excessive in my opinion. Overall worth the money though.
Review 74:Just gorgeous. Dolphins and iguanas. Nice drinks and amazing pool area. A lovely spot in the keys.
Review 75:We requested a room with a view of the water. When we checked in the room was perfect except for a strong musty odor. It was so bad it triggered an asthma attack in my wife! They changed our room but it was over top of the roof of the main entrance. We asked if it could be changed and were told no.
Review 76:Everything was fine except for our room and that made the experience horrible, after all that is what you are paying for.
Review 77:No view from our room, balcony looked right into an overgrown tree. Food prices where very high at the grill, $14 for a Hamburger.
Review 78:The pool areas where nice, the outside bar area was welcoming.
Review 79:Long line to check in , everything closed at 11 pm
Review 80:Relaxing , restaurants were very good , service in restaurant excellent . Staff in gift shops nexcellent
Review 81:no breakfast included, the food was a little pricey, but not too bad if you look at other restaurants in the area
Review 82:this place is amazing, we loved everything, the private lagoon, the dolphin pool, the kids pirate ship, the amazing room, the view, the location, the staff, the bonfire every night. one of the best places I've been to
Review 83:Poolside food was very overpriced,$173 for lunch of 2 starters, burgers for 5 (3 of them kids meals) and a few drinks and no deserts!
Review 84:the setting was beautiful!
Review 85:Air conditioner noise on certain locations at the hotel. I complained about it and the service was excellent in that respect when I complained I was compensated with another room a better location immediately
Review 86:Overpriced food and drink Overpriced dolphin experience Overpriced massages A little tatty in places
Review 87:Stunning location Lots to see and do Free water Children free pool
Review 88:The pettiness and penny pinching of the the resort. $7.50 for a Starbucks coffee from a machine and then being chased for money because we stood in one of the cabanas by the pool to escape the rain. Normally understandable but we were the only 2 people at the pool!!! Bar fight fuelled by over serving from the bar staff by the pool!
Review 89:Location is awesome as a base to explore the keys.
Review 90:Out of season lack of facilities. No entertainment, no bar for adult pool, outside Tiki bar open for drinks and snacks but torrential downpours meant not suitable to use.
Review 91:Lagoon, Dolphins and overall look of place.
Review 92:Cell phone (Verizon) doesn't work inside room. Wi-Fi wouldn't work inside room. Room key always fails. "Iffy" valet parking. Too many little things wrong.
Review 93:Pool..
Review 94:The food in all the restaurants was so so and way over priced for the quality and inconsistent. If they hired a better executive chef to over see and re evaluate the food this place would be so much better.
Review 95:The location and property was beautiful and very well kept.
Review 96:we were a LONGGGG way away from the pool and we only saw the island tram go by once. Every one seemed to be walking. we just started driving to the lobby!
Review 97:the pool area
Review 98:Front desk & Spa staff very cold and unhelpful. My only negative.
Review 99:Location is amazing, the lanai rooms by the quiet pool are bliss. Valet and Resturant staff are so helpful and friendly. We prefered staying here to Key West!
Review 100:The problem was not being able to smoke at the tiki bar whe drinking and when we went to the adult section it was still full of kids sitting were we could smoke therefore not allowing room for us.
Review 101:it was a little bit of paradise.
Review 102:The food was pretty expensive (especially the breakfast)
Review 103:We thought it was a great resort which caters to all ages and we were able to entertain everyone in the group
Review 104:Our courtains were very dirty need to clean that for sure also the rugs in the room look like ithey need cleaning too
Review 105:Overall the experience was great, but we had two rooms that need some update asap, that would bring it up to excellence!
Review 106:Our villa was outdated. The carpet on the stairs was dirty, and the bathrooms had mold. Furniture was old and not well taken care of. I was not happy with the Villa for the amount of money we were spending. I don't think I'll book again.
Review 107:Staff around the resort and restaurants was very friendly, location was good (close to key west and other keys)
Review 108:Would've been nice if breakfast was included in the price!
Review 109:Hawks Cay was beautiful, had plenty of activities for children and families to enjoy, and is located right in the center of the Keys. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation!
Review 110:could do with a bit of a freshen up in rooms as furnishings and decoration a little tired no kettle in villa could do with more baking trays in kitchen
Review 111:friendly staff any problems sorted out well ie electric loss sorted within 30 mins air con sorted same morning
Review 112:Called them about 15 times in advance of my arrival and nobody from Reservations picked up the phone. Also, after arriving, they first accepted my card, but then called me back at 1am in my room to ask for another card.
Review 113:Dolphin show was nice and accommodations are comfortable.
Review 114:The villa we stayed (5089) needs improvement. We asked to change villas because de first one they offered us (villa 5087) was in very bad shape. The villa 5089 was better but not as good as the Resort suggested it would be.
Review 115:The place is fantastic. The island is really gorgeous. They have wonderful facilities for children, many pools and excellent infrastructure for the youngers. The staff was nice and the food was very good.
Review 116:The wifi was down in our condo. I was given a credit at the the end, but it would have been nice to have the wifi. The bedrooms were small for the queen beds. Barely enough room to walk to the on suite bath... which was super small also. We stayed on the harbor side. Parking was also a problem. You might get to park in front of your condo, then again it my be several condos down. They put a lot into this place, but maybe to much...
Review 117:This place has everything you could ask for in a resort... with a price. Beautiful grounds and the staff bent over backwards to make our stay perfect.
Review 118:The toaster was broken, only one side works, the faucet In the kitchen was falling apart, the bathroom tile was broken, the tiles in the back were green and we had to call the first night for sheets and blanket that they say was in the closet but wasn't.
Review 119:The charter fishing boats only held 6 people and we were 7. We know this is the way all the charters are so we are not blaming Duch Key.
Review 120:The house we stayed in was very comfortable. It would have been much better if the downstairs bathroom was a full bath. We found there was so much to do. We loved the facilities.
Review 121:The presidential suite didn't have a pull out couch and a cot had to be brought in. The tranquility at the tranquility pool was interrupted with "games" at the near by bar/restaurant.
Review 122:That my parents were able to enjoy a fancy place like Hawks Cay. We upgraded to the presidential suite and it was beautiful.
Review 123:I paid over $50 a day in resort fees and everything cost more money. To rent kayaks, canoes, fishing poles. At the Sheraton it's all included. Also the brochure says to rent kayaks and go watch the sunset, but the marina closes at 5!!! How is this possible????
Review 124:The overal location in the keys
Review 125:The bed was not too comfortable... New beds and this place would be "THE BEST"
Review 126:Beautiful Location... So Special especially with teh dolphons...
Review 127:Value for what it costs is NOT there...no amenities like water bottles in the room, furniture shabby/worn, mattress soft in middle with edges stiff, and bathroom not that clean...not even a pen. Resort fees are high, especially since you also pay for everything or are asked for additional gratuities. This property may have been premier at one time...but has gone downhill.
Review 128:Location of the property is nice if you intend to do everything on-site.
Review 129:place was clean fishing was good the most important thing i dearly love you can catch your fish and cook it there, my daughter eat fish but you have to take it off the bone. she did it her self. i love it my four times visiting.and i will be back
Review 130:We didn't like that the jetski was so expensive we had to get off the island to find cheaper jet ski ...
Review 131:I absolutely love the bondfire ! The kids had so much activities to do ... We had a great time and will be back ...
Review 132:Power went out in half of my room, but they did comp a night for us.
Review 133:If there was any issues, they did bend over backwards to assist in making things better or be helpful In any way.
Review 134:The view from our 3rd floor balcony was grand and the room was an A +! It was our 35th Anniversary and the staff surprised us with a chilled bottle of wine and then at dinner with a decorated plate with Happy 35th Anniversary on it and a slice of delicious cake! I would love to bring our 7 grandchildren here one day!!
Review 135:I took my boat because I was told that they had excellent facilities at the marina. The marina is very small and not user friendly at all. If you have a boat, avoid this resort!!!
Review 136:The resort was clean and we had a lot of fun once we got through our fiasco at the marina. The food is OK but pricey for the quality.
Review 137:Only at check in dis hey reveal a DAILY $40 resort 'fee' to access facilities including wifi. Wifi didn't work all week
Review 138:Great resort; first class facilities; helpful staff; good location
Review 139:The free Wifi is none existent, the beds are small, especially on the basis of American beds, and the villas are tiny. The staff vary hugely, and some serious staff training is needed, especially for front desk. The pools are too small, and the main pool gets hugely crowded, with kids playing with minature American footballs (and i mean loads of them). This is a tarted up resort, going back to the 60's, its nice, but the website is better than the resort, and as such, you need to be aware, otherwise it can be disappointing.
Review 140:Its a good position, and to be fair, has lovely views etc
Review 141:dirty swimming pools, bugs in the room, deposit on my credit card that wad 4 times bigget then my spending and lasted for 10 days. Bad informed staff, had to call 3 times to sort out the payment on my card. Shorten the stay but the deposit remained!
Review 142:Good (but expensive) breakfast menu, nice marina
