Reviews for Sunset Beach Inn

Review 1:The facilities and the rooms are all way overdo for upgrades. The bedding needs to be refreshed, the room decor is old and the room smells strongly of mildew and bleach, the tennis courts are in rough shape, the bikes are in really rough shape.

Review 2:The location is excellent. The pool and beach area are beautiful and the employees are all helpful and professional.

Review 3:The male mgr, upon check-in, told me that I did not have two rooms with two queens and assigned me to one room with queens and one king. I had printed verification from booking.com for the two rooms with queens. He then reassigned one to the first floor (both rooms were to be top floor) The first floor room was damp and a low ceiling. The top floor room had a high ceiling, was larger, and better conditions.

Review 4:The head desk person, Betul, was friendly and helpful. I had confirmed with her the previous week that our reservations were in order.

Review 5:Breakfast was great but they did not give implements to eat with or plates. It only came with one small napkin and a stir stick. Not easy to eat yogurt or cereal without a spoon! Room could use some renovation, carpet, etc.

Review 6:Continental breakfast was great, lots of choices. Loved the location for shells and seeing the sunset and proximity to everything. Loved getting the NY Times and all of the amenities that are offered, ie.. bikes, water craft, free parking, pool, etc.

Review 7:Carpet was quite stained and there was a hole in the baseboard behind the toilet.

Review 8:Loved the location, beach, pool and friendly staff. The small kitchenette was nice as well as the food provided in the basket and refrigerator.

Review 9:New TV had dysfunctional picture. They offered free bikes but did not maintain them. They were rideable but it seems a shame to let them deteriorate. They also gave a "free breakfast" in the room. Frosted flakes and off-the-shelf pastries constituted the bulk. We had to go out for breakfast.

Review 10:Great location on beach and close to town. Good value for Sanibel!

Review 11:11 rips in screen on the screened in porch, frig broken, silver fish crawling in the bed.

Review 12:The location was great and they had bikes, kayaks, and chairs with umbrella for use.

Review 13:Marketing of rooms with partial open view when looked out over air conditioning unit/plant hire room

Review 14:Proximity to beach and all facilities included in the price

Review 15:My only suggestion is to have more beach umbrellas and lounge chairs available at the beach. My count there were only 5. I would more then double that number.

Review 16:We have stayed at resorts more then twice the cost and this stay was equal regarding the comfort level. Everything was clean and updated. The breakfast baskets were much better then a typical breakfast spread. Very close to beach.

Review 17:The room was not very clean. The toilet was not secured to the floor properly and rocked from side to side. The floors in the bathroom and tub area were not clean. There was a small round stone top cocktail table in the room and the top was not attached to the base.

Review 18:Beautiful location with a great Beach

Review 19:The only downside was that their was'nt enough crockery and kitchen utensils.

Review 20:Great location, so peaceful and your literally on the beach. Loved it and would certainly recommend.

Review 21:A/C unit in our room was a bit noisy

Review 22:Directly situated at beach Our breakfast consisted of a basket placed in room refrigerator every day so one can eat it any time. Quite large pool

Review 23:Very good place. We have problem with the ac in our room and as soon as I called the front desk they moved us to another room. We love the breakfast baskets!!

Review 24:Bathroom was a bit small.

Review 25:Room was clean, large and nice beds. Free breakfast was great, took it out to the beach for a morning picnic. Also nice path that I ran on both days and my wife rode the free bike while I ran.

Review 26:The small room, & lack of balcony deck privacy. Needs solid dividers. 1970's Motel feel & look.

Review 27:Great Staff, very helpful & courteous. Great beach access & freebies like chairs, bikes, paddle boards, pool toys. Complimentary food baskets with cereal ,milk, juices, fruits, yogurt & pastries.

Review 28:They did a nice job with taking out garbage, changing bedding, and picking up the room...but the bathrooms were not cleaned. The bathrooms were "picked up" and "tiddy" but not cleaned. I don't think the tub or floor were wiped up for our 4 day stay.

Review 29:Location was fantastic!! Great price for location, facilities, and room size!! Staff set up lounge chairs and umbrellas out on the beach every day. Plenty of bikes were available for our entire family and friends. Love that they had beach towels for us to use. The pool and pool deck were great size and very clean. We had a blast!!!

Review 30:we would have liked a nicer breakfast than the one that was provided

Review 31:location and the staff were extra nice at all times. the front end people did everything to accomadate us and the maintenance staff went out of their way to make sure that we were enjoying our selves

Review 32:Despite having advised them of an early check-in right after the reservation, we had to wait 3 hours (after the check out time) to get a room. They checked in 3 other people (who showed up after we did) before we got a room. They seem to "care" yet did little to resolve situation. If we had not payed 1 night ahead of time I would not have waited around. The property is not very well cared for, not for the prices... I would not stay there again.

Review 33:Location

Review 34:I was a little disappointed with the location of our room. The inn is set perpendicular to the beach so all you see from your window is a parking lot. Was looking forward to a full beach view. Another disappointing aspect was the fact that they put away their beach chairs and umbrellas at 5 pm when the sun didn't even set until 7-8 pm. Not to mention they didn't even have enough for a quarter of the people staying. I had to wake up early to get my family and I a spot. Lastly, their complementary breakfast was not very well stocked. Breakfast ended at 10am and by the time I arrived at 8am, most of the food was gone. Not good for my sleepy, hungry teenagers.

Review 35:We met a lot of friendly people and the staff was overall helpful. The inn provided great activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, and bike riding. The cleaning services were also very good.

Review 36:Wasn't abke to get an earlier check in or later check out even though it was requested when booked. Not a deal breaker just annoying.

Review 37:The location was great. On the beach, kitchenette in room, free kayak, paddle board and bike usage. Everything you need at a great price.

Review 38:The property is very "dated" and could use some serious upgrading.

Review 39:The location is perfect for anyone who loves the beach for relaxing and for searching for unique shells.

Review 40:The rooms were very spacious. The pool was very big. Everything was clean and well kept. The property was beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 41:I loved the nice pool and my girls loved being able to paddle board. The room was very clean and had a full refrigerator, microwave and stove. Great friendly atmosphere.

Review 42:for starters, when we arrived the air conditioning did not work. The maintenance people advised us to leave the room (freon fumes leaking in attempts to repair) and after working on the unit we were moved to another unit (only because they had a cancellation). the room smelled of mold, the carpets were not clean, the room needed new paint. The staff was not the friendliest and the complimentary breakfast was the worst i have seen..Add all those to the fact that the price was $319 was a complete rip off. Ive stayed in Motel 6's when i was twenty years old that were nicer than this dump.

Review 43:the location

Review 44:No outdoor bar area, no hot tub. Travel often this was the most I have ever paid.

Review 45:I liked that the paddleboards, kayaks & bikes were included in the price. Nice pool area.

Review 46:there was only one mirror in the room. Should install a second one somewhere outside of bathroom. Makes it easier for 2 people getting ready for dinner.

Review 47:the ease of getting rackets/balls for tennis courts, the ease of getting bikes to ride and the best of all....the umbrellas and chairs at the beach.

Review 48:Carpets and furniture dated although beds and linens new and clean!

Review 49:Hotel located mid island on the gulf - easy to navigate to spots of interest. Staff could not be nicer! Very clean and neat!

Review 50:Even though the location is nice, the price is exorbitant (about $500/night). Sarasota at Lido Beach, which can be high-priced, is less expensive and the water is aquamarine there.

Review 51:Beautiful patio, nice beds, bathroom is nice - not overly big for two people but adequate.

Review 52:The hotel room carpet could stand to be replaced as it was showing it's wear and just seemed unclean. The bathroom and kitchenette could stand an update as well.

Review 53:We loved the proximity to the beach, free umbrellas/chairs and free use of bikes, kayaks and paddle boards. Continental breakfast was decent. Very nice staff.

Review 54:The kitchen was old and tired and the breakfast facilities were poor with no place to sit. The breakfast food was OK but not health focused - lots of commercial packaged pastries.

Review 55:The room was large (we were three) and plenty big enough and very clean. The little balcony was good and screened in. It is not ADA accessible but that was OK for us. The pool was great allowing lap swimming.

Review 56:Don't go here if your kids want to make noise at night. Neareat resturant was more than a mile away. Tiny kitchen area (no room to even slice an apple)

Review 57:Quiet beach access - great place to unwind. Right on the beach! Full size fridge.

Review 58:Chairs and umbrellas were often not out till 9am and were put away by 5:30!!! One day I was sleeping on the chair and an attendant woke me up and told me it was time for him to take the chair in!! One day umbrellas were not out because of wind ( other hotels had umbrellas out) unable to sit at beach!!! Chairs are old

Review 59:Loved the location, pool was very nice , grounds were clean

Review 60:The place was dated, floor looked dirty, and was, kitchen had bare essentials, 3 forks 6 spoons 3 knives ans some sharp ones, I think only used 1. 1 wine glas for three of us. The beds were comfortable EXCEPT when you rolled over you had a pinging sound from the metal base. The upstairs guest liked dragging their chairs over the tile floor so it was noisey.

Review 61:The continental breakfast that was included with the rate was average. Just the basics offered. We actually only used it 1 day of the 4 we were there. A fresh coat of paint and new carpet would help the overall appearance. Paid resort prices for average accommodations.

Review 62:Great location, within 100 feet to the beach. Staff was very friendly.

Review 63:Terrible! Booked 6 months in advance. Arrived and were told there was only a room 'half underground' (receptionists words) and it was all booking.coms fault and problem. After 2 hrs negotiation we got a normal (as per booking & web site) room for 1 night but told we must leave next morn and sign to release them from the 7 night contract. Unbelievable behaviour and threats. Breakfast in reception, poor, nowhere to sit. Bikes - only a few in bad order. The basement rooms do not even appear on the web site - be warned! Stay somewhere else! This is not 4* .

Review 64:nothing - we received shocking customer treatment.

Review 65:Sanibel is expensive. Sunset Beach Inn is one of the more reasonable places to stay but I could have stayed "off island" for less and enjoyed more comfort. Road noise was bad at times. Kitchen needed a sink.

Review 66:Location on the water. Nice pool, clean and warm!

Review 67:The use of strong-smelling air freshener in the room, which was overpowering. There is nowhere for groups to congregate (no lounge or bar area in the hotel) and you have to take breakfast back to your room, so this is not so good for groups of friends who want to get together. Our room had a huge table in the kitchen which left very little space to manouver. The breakfast was very basic. Some cut fresh fruit would be a nice addition. It would be nice to be given information on restaurants as there are very few nearby.

Review 68:Great pool; fantastic beach for walks and collecting shells. Beautiful gardens and amazing sunsets!

Review 69:They said we had ordered a room we felt we did not reserve. We were moved the next day to a very acceptable room and not charged for the upgrade. We thought we had booked a room like our first visit. There is some disconnect here on website??

Review 70:The beach chairs and umbrella Laundry Maid service Moved to a room we liked! Breakfast

Review 71:Pool was closed due to emergency, but the hotel staff compensated guests with fair offers. Could use a few more bikes, and perhaps a few newer bikes too?

Review 72:Michelle and Kim at front desk went above and beyond to help in various ways---customer service in general was excellent. Rooms were lovely, and housekeeping staff was professional and friendly. Overall, excellent place to stay that is not a condo.

Review 73:The outside of the Building looks a bit run down and the staff tried to squeeze $ put of us if we wanted to check in earlier than we should. When we didn't accept the recepcionist wasn't very friendly and seemed anoyed. Also a $5 phantom fee for the resort was added when we booked out... So beware they try to squeeze $ were they can, seemed shady...

Review 74:You can't beat the location! It's right on the beach and the only Inn with several beach chairs. The bedrooms were surprinsingle rommy and nice.

Review 75:There is no room in the breakfast area to eat, so you have to come back to your room. The hotel is little bit far from the "center" of the island, including the light house.

Review 76:The room are spacious, the kitchen facilities is great, beds are big. The balcony is really enjoyable. You can ride a bike for free!

Review 77:hardly found nice shells on the beaches of Sanibel only lots of middle of the road shells.

Review 78:free bikes available close to JN Ding national park, (perfect for cycling) simple free breakfast available nice and clean swimming pool

Review 79:This place seems to fit better to couples & solo travelers. We did not like the room at all; the kitchen was too small & the balcony did not even have a light. And the worst of all, it had the worst Internet connection I have ever seen in a U.S.-based hotel (it never worked for us). Definitely not worth the price we paid for it. Sanibel is a beautiful place for families, though it is a whole lot better to pay a little more & stay in another place with accommodations suited for families. I would certainly not return to this hotel & would not recommend it to other travelers.

Review 80:Just the location & the heated pool.

Review 81:The WiFi internet was poor. For the first 2 days we had to go to reception to get a signal.

Review 82:The fact that it was directly on the beach and that parasols and sunbeds we're put out on the beach each day

Review 83:We really looked forward to our visit to Sanibel but were disappointed. The room layout was perfect, however, the rug was dirty and had spill stains. Our family's dining chairs in their room had spill stains on them. Mostly dissatisfied with the price for what we got. For $179/$199 a night we expected much better accommodations and also breakfast selection. Since I made the reservations for us & my family it put me in an embarrassing position.

Review 84:The location was wonderful, the staff friendly, and the pool was great.

Review 85:Room shabby, carpets dirty & holes worn into them, furniture dated, pool needs total refurbishing and a heater, the whole place needs new paint, bath tub was atrocious, etc. You get the picture and it's not like it's even a great bargain! The chaise & umbrella set up on beach was nice.

Review 86:Location, but not much else.

Review 87:The smell of mold in the room was terrible. The one bed was so close tothe air condition that you could not get away from the blower or thenoise. The hotel does not look as bright and clean as depicted on theinternet. The check in clerk was rude, telling me I had to wait untilshe took care of the trash. No one else was waiting, so I felt the trashcould also wait, until she took care of me. At breakfast the followingmorning, nothing was prepared on time. What I would really like is mymoney back as I feel this place misrepresented itself. Sorry to be soblunt, by my visit was a real letdown.

Review 88:Location The male helper was very helpful.

Review 89:No one warned us about the no-see-ums. Only on checking out, was I offered a paper giving warnings, insect repellent suggestions and finally, a balm to give relief. I was out with the swarms morning and evening as I searched for shells. My itching and burning lasted for weeks. Will we come back? Not sure. It could have been prevented with advance notice.

Review 90:How the staff responded to our needs promptly. Several things needed fixing, and they came quickly.

Review 91:My reservation was not in the system, it took the clerk 45 mins to figure out what to do for us, I had my confirmation for 2 queen beds, but none were available, ended up with a king size bed, and paid more than what I was quoted from booking.com..this was not a pleasant experience and I should not have had to pay the additional amount.. The room was clean and spacious however, this was not what I had booked.

Review 92:The breakfast offering would have been better with perhaps melon or berries in addition to having just bananas and apples. The free bikes need some attention. Just oiling them and keeping air in the tires would be good.

Review 93:They have a large pool and a beach-side location. We liked the balcony off of our room on the 2nd. floor.

Review 94:The inn looked a little run down. Definitely could use some painting. Staff wasn't overly friendly or helpful. Recused to extend a late check out even though we had a large group & was not fully booked. Room was clean but rugs & bedding were run down. Air conditioner didn't work well. Only 2 pillows per bed were provided. Housekeeping was in our room while we were at the beach before we had checked out even though we had told her we weren't out yet. Pool area was run down. Felt more le something at a campground than a hotel. No amenities at all. Think we'd stay somewhere a little nicer next time.

Review 95:It was nice to walk right out of the back to beach. Umbrellas, lounge chairs & beach towels are provided & set up in the morning.

Review 96:Absolutely nothing we didn't like!

Review 97:Location was great...beach is practically your backyard, many restaurants near the hotel to choose from, free bike rentals, the staff was extremely friendly which is a big deal to me, the amenities were great and everything was clean.

Review 98:The only complaint I have was that there was a very offensive smell when you first walked into the room. I think maybe it had something to do with the cleaners used. When I got to the desk to check out there was an extra day charged on my bill for the same day. I had to point that out to the front desk girl, who I thought should have noticed that. That is a lot of money to overlook.

Review 99:I enjoyed my short stay at Sanibel, the Sunset Beach Inn was very clean, the beds very comfortable. The location was perfect, right on the beach, with chairs and umbrellas put out for the clients daily.

Review 100:Unfortunately our youngest child still uses training wheels, so not all of us were able to ride.

Review 101:Nice pool with free lounge chairs in the pool area and on the beach. Free bikes were also great.

Review 102:The facility is old. Rugs are so worn, I don't think you could clean them, even if you wanted to. Breakfast was donuts or bagels. There was nowhere to sit. You were told to bring the tray from your room to breakfast. The coffee machine was tucked tightly in a corner, making access difficult. The room was not ready at 4:00 when promised. We had to wait until 5 to get in.

Review 103:The location was great. It was easy to spot from the road. Bikes were available. There was some breakfast, but...(see negatives) They did call when the room was ready.

Review 104:Nothing to wash the dishes with, in our suite the light in the bathroom kept going out (minor problem). It was an expensive stay, then again I scheduled it on the 4th of July, the busiest time of the year.

Review 105:Very friendly staff. Even though we only stayed one night, they let us use the facilities for two days while enjoying the beach. Also got an upgrade on our room for free Clean rooms, roomy.

Review 106:Stain on room carpet and odor of either mildew or cooking from previous guests. Also, the stove grills were no longer flat on the stove.

Review 107:Eveything else was perfect. Loved the location, umbrella and lounge chair use on beach, bikes, breakfast, all very good and appreciated. Seems you are in process of updating rooms. Huge facility and hope to return. Loved the space of the rooms. Good luck in meantime...

Review 108:I only had 2 days there.

Review 109:Great location with the biggest well maintained pool. Bikes to sign out to ride the nature trails and tennis courts and a shell cleaning station.

Review 110:We arrived around 3PM and check in was at 4PM. We walked on the beach until about 4:10. Our room still was not ready. After my husband hung out in the lobby our room was finally ready a little after 4:30. Some other guests said they were told they could check in at 1030AM but they did not want to be on the top floor. Poor planning on the part of the hotel. The ocean view room was only a little spit of a view if you craned your neck on the screen porch.

Review 111:The room was clean and comfortable. The pool was clean and inviting. The beach was good even though there were no nice shells.

Review 112:The continental breakfast was nothing to write home about. There is no restaurant or store of any kind within walking distance.

Review 113:Location, location, location. The hotel was a very nice place. The beach is pristine, not crowded, the shelling right there was fantastic. Never heard another human while we were in the room. Soundproofing is great and the hotel was full at the time. The junior Olympic size pool was beautiful.

Review 114:We checked in on june 17th. The next morning I woke up to shower andthere was no hot water. We had to check out by 11 so that is the kind ofshower we all took. We asked at front desk and they said they were stillworking on it when we checked out. Also my husband went to front deskaround 9am to ask for a few extra towels and was told housekeeping didnot come in to 11. The front desk was not very helpful or caring of ourdisappointments.

Review 115:We loved being right on the beach.Having chairs and umbrellas. The poolwas also very nice.

Review 116:The toilet was clot and we had to wait to next morning for somebody to bring something to we fix the toilet(I'm on vacation no on plumber duty!!!)the coffeemaker did not work ,same with the blower, everything was there but nothing workreported it to the front desk but nobody did anything

Review 117:No beach towels.. Paid for room with ocean view and got partial view.. Have to walk 2 miles to see Sunset.. They put beach stuff away to early (chairs umbrellas)..

Review 118:It was on beach.. Close to nature reserve.

Review 119:A great location right on the beach. The hotel has been kept up to date and the pool is one of the largest on the Island. It was nice to have access to free bikes to use and they were easy to sign in and out. If you are planning on staying more than two nights, I would recommend reserving a room on the 2nd floor (better view) with a kitchen.

Review 120:Beds too hard...

Review 121:great location...

Review 122:The staff was great. The use of paddle boards & kayak was a great bonus. The grounds was kept beautiful. Right on the beach!!!!

Review 123:kitchens not the best

Review 124:Pool, beach, and Sanibel are all wonderful

Review 125:We got bed bugs

Review 126:Nothing major at all.

Review 127:Great location and nice big pool.

Review 128:Beds not the best for comfort. Could be firmer but that maybe a matter of preference.

Review 129:Good location. In room breakfast fine.

Review 130:Old carpet

Review 131:Excellent staff and location. Amenities were convenient.

Review 132:Be warned, the chiggers (no-see-ums) ate us alive. So wear bug spray. Our arms and legs were covered in bites, itched for a week!

Review 133:Right on the beach

Review 134:Liked the receptionist and swimming pool

Review 135:You should have a elevator for seniors

Review 136:Peaceful place

Review 137:My room had a gorgeous view of the gulf. Comfortable bed. Handy kitchenette. I really liked having use of beach chairs and umbrellas.

Review 138:Clean rooms comfortable beds Good view clean grounds great access to the beach .
