Reviews for Catalina Boat House
Review 1:The staff was amazing! So friendly and helpful! They went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel, and their sister hotel (Hermosa Inn). The rooms were old, but very comfortable and clean.
Review 2:The hotel needs some TLC
Review 3:Catarina island is so beautiful it would be enjoyable staying in a wooden box. The hotel is a bit run down and dated but it had a lovely atmosphere and a nice sun deck with views over the harbour.
Review 4:The "jetted" tub was filthy! Would have never used the tub noteven for a pet! The tile in the kitchen looked like they were nevercleaned and the bath tile was filthy. The first night we stayed in thehotel the smoke alarm went off (needed a new battery). The other 3nights we stayed there we could hear people coming and going most allnight long. Heard them going up and down stairs and talking. The wallsseemed very thin. The window in the bedroom window would not close allthe way. The décor was extremely dated and didn't look like thepictures on the web site at all. They only supplied small bars of soapwrapped in paper, plastic tubes of shampoo/conditioner. Looked likethey replaced our towels and took out the trash. No staff was on thepremises unless they had a new occupant. They were at their"sister" hotel. No one checked on us to make sure our room wassatisfactory. Very disappointed and will return to Catalina Islandhowever will not go back to Catalina Boat House.
Review 5:Close to Avalon shops and restaurants and beach access.
Review 6:The only thing I didn't like was that when we came in the floor was a bit dirty and dusty (I like to walk barefoot at home so this bothered me). I didnt know if we had maid service so i simply just asked for a broom or mop to clean it myself and the receptionist gladly took it to my room. Also the WiFi was really bad, little to no signal. But then again.. who needs a phone when your on vacation. Last but not least,to get there you seriously have to hike up a hill to get to the hotel and not wheel chair friendly.
Review 7:As soon as we arrived we were happily greated and driven to our room (tip:ask them to drive you to the boat when you leave! ). The place looked very well taken care of and modern as compared to other antique hotels in Catalina. Bed was very clean and comfortable we even had an extra blanket! At first the room looked very small but surprisingly everything was well organized and there was plenty of room for us to store our luggage. I was also very happy with the price we payed since some hotels there charge per person and not per night.
Review 8:I loved everything! There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 9:Was greeted by the young man & taken to the boathouse. He also gave us a short ride around the area & helped me & my granddaughter get to know our surrounding. That was excellent!
Review 10:Ice machine never had ice (on, but not producing). A bit noisy. Cheaper places usually have louder tenants, no biggy for us.
Review 11:The middle-aged front desk guy was funny and welcoming. I appreciated the uphill hike to get to the place, some may not. Gotta work-off that ice cream.
Review 12:No window lock, no curtain, no sink in bath - had to use kitchenette sink, terrible bed, overhead light only (no reading light), Tiny tiny tiny room bath and shower. Overpriced.
Review 13:Close but not too close to everythimg
Review 14:Our room was tiny. Only a bed and dresser--not a single chair or table. Fortunately, it was good weather, so we could eat breakfast on the deck overlooking the ocean.
Review 15:Good price, close to (but up a hill) from the waterfront.
Review 16:The only thing was the walk up the hill. And also never got a call from the receptionist to let me know my room was ready and my bags were never taken to the room
Review 17:The whole place was very well put together.
Review 18:The hill sucks...
Review 19:I think the price was great, the staff very friendly; however, the hot tub promoted in the add wasn't even to be found and there and the outside of the facility (construction materials) could have been cleaned up a little.
Review 20:The beach house has nice rooms, but it is a short block up a fairly steep hill to get there. The quiet and the civet make up for the climb, but know that there is a hill to walk up after dinner.
Review 21:The Catalina beach house is a Nice hotel with a beautiful view of the bay. The room felt like it had very recently been completely remodeled. The partnership with Hermosa hotel is a bonus as well. We stored scuba gear in the Hermosa dive locker and used the hot and clean showers at the Hermosa after diving in the afternoon. Having access to hot showers even after checking out was a very accommodating feature for divers.
Review 22:the pictures compared to what room i actually got are false. The wifi didnt work. It is in the back of everything so the hike up to the room was not fun at all. The room is comparable to a 20 motel in LA. The blankets gave me a rash as well.
Review 23:staff was friendly
Review 24:Rooms are efficient but a little tighter than I expected. When I was booking, I probably would've opted to pay a little more for a room with even a slight view, but wasn't aware of how to go about this.
Review 25:Perfect location just off Crescent Avenue and a great value for the price. Staff members were friendly and advisable. Would definitely recommend the hotel for anyone looking to spend most of their time on the island out and about.
Review 26:The quietness & tranquility. Nice room size, fully loaded kitchenette for all your needs. Nice people on the island! Office manager was nice as well!
Review 27:one hour timers on the AC, Lack of air movement in the room made sleep difficult....woke up every hour to reset the timer on the air conditioner We were so close to the outdoor stairs....too close...people walking by could see inside your room
Review 28:staff, location, causal enviornment, outdoor patios
Review 29:The location was difficult. A steep climb up to the hotel. We were never able to connect to the wi-fi. The walls were thin. Unfortunately, we were neighbors to someone who was up early and loved airing his problems with whom ever was on the other end of the telephone.
Review 30:The staff was great. The room was very clean.
Review 31:The wi-fi service was poor, but that was excellent for our sake--we were on vacation and we wanted to be separated from the routine of life.
Review 32:The Catalina Beach House was an excellent location for the price. The staff was wonderful, helpful, and excited that we were staying with them. Our room was private and offered a leisurely view of the beach from our secluded deck. The room and kitchenette offered a cozy space that we could enjoy once we had our fill of the city, water, etc.
Review 33:Wi-fi was spotty. During the day the signal would be okay, but at night downright impossible.
Review 34:The beach house was away from the hustle and bustle of every day traffic and night time noise. The rooms were clean and quiet. The kitchen was very small but it fit my need. I hardly saw the staff but if you called, they would attend to our needs.
Review 35:One of the staffs was very inconsiderate she seem to not be able to Waite to charge us for the boat tickets which we had assumed had already been charged, even though we had just arrived she came to our room like 3 times to make sure I was going to pay the boar ticket...considering we were going to be there for 3days she could have waited
Review 36:The location was good and was close to the beach yet away from all the crowd and hustle of beach life
Review 37:Peacefull, gentle, comfortable environment.
Review 38:Staff, location, rooms, hospitality
Review 39:Bathroom was terribly small. Ac unit was poor. Bed and bedding poor quality.
Review 40:View from top of hill
Review 41:Nothing!
Review 42:Solid place. Staff was exceptionally friendly. Having a place to store baggage before and after checkout is key.
Review 43:No washcloths or utensils. Dishes were dirty.
Review 44:Price, cleanliness, staff, location.
Review 45:The restroom ois noit quite clean.
Review 46:Bright.
Review 47:Very comfortable
Review 48:Room was way too small, bed was way too noisy, poor construction!
Review 49:Clean, location was ok for the money, not good if you cannot walk uphill.
Review 50:Price and lack of staff co-operation
Review 51:It's nearby the beach Good price I felt comfortable there There is BBQ place
Review 52:One lightswitch for everything. Husband had to sit in the bathroom to read when the rest of us wanted to sleep.
Review 53:Lovely view. Very unique property.
Review 54:The walls/ceiling of the room we stayed in also was peeling paint.
Review 55:Not clean.when you flush toilet water running none stop
Review 56:The bed
Review 57:There was nothing I didn't like
Review 58:I loved the friendly staff. The guy in the front desk helped me get what I thought was the best room
Review 59:the absence of common kitchen

Review 61:Small bathroom.
Review 62:Kitchen appliances Location Community deck with BBQ Great staff
Review 63:small.
Review 64:clean , noise free environment.
Review 65:Bathroom light did not work and beds were not ready when I checked.
Review 66:Quick response from Hotel manager, clean and easy access to beach areas.
Review 67:The bathroom was amazing because there was a Jacuzzi! It was a really nice room especially for the price.
Review 68:Wifi room view
Review 69:No wifi facilities shocking
Review 70:We truly loved our room # 10 and felt we had it all with Meriecella and Caroline looking after everything and shoring their fabulous smiles with us.
Review 71:Very small room. But, overall It was okay
Review 72:Staff was excellent. Good location
Review 73:Well you get what you pay for , no sink in the bathroom is unheard of though! Feel a little mislead
Review 74:Overall condition of the property is poor. Rooms are small and need repairs. For instance several electrical outlets did not work, large glass shower door in bathroom are about to come down on someone. The are held in place by a screw in the runner. The place is just junky.
Review 75:The property has a deck you can sit out on and see the bay.
Review 76:We stayed in a room that was on the bottom floor, and the wifi couldn't reach our room. Hopefully they can fix this because we do plan on making another trip out there.
Review 77:It was a nice and quiet room. The staff was welcoming and helpful.
Review 78:Paid for a Premium room rec'd a low value room. Bathroom was verysmall, fixtures were missing and the others were corroded. The only wayto turn on the air conditioner was to climb up on top of the bed, whenwife turned on the air she rec'd a face full of dirt and dust(thegrid was coated with dirt) The dressers were something that lookedliked they were found in the trash, all the draws had no runners sowhen opened the draws fell down and out. The second dresser had wheelsand had a mini-refrigerator on top of it, the draws were very hard toopen which combined with the wheels almost made the refrigerator tofall off when trying to open.(VERY Unsafe) The screens did not fit thewindows had large gaps so windows had to be closed to keep the bugsout. After being out of the room all day and returning after 4pm we hadto call for maid service even though the maid service requested signwas put out at 8am
Review 79:I did not find anything about this hotel to our liking. It wasvery rundown.
Review 80:the staff promise will give us a ride to the beach house and turned out we had to walk with our bags and luggage. It's not easy walk cause it's up hill. During night time it's noise cause the use the balcony as dinner place.
Review 81:clean.
Review 82:Their sister hotel the Hermosa hotel was not as comfy and definitely didn't have the same amenities!! Wish we could have just stayed at the beach house.
Review 83:Loved having a fridge and stove; the king room was fantastic. The staff was rarely there but if you called on the phone they were quite friendly and helpful.
Review 84:We all hated walking up and down the steep slope to the room, thisshould be mentioned especially for handicapped. The lady Mindy was rudeand snappy the whole time - very inconsiderate!!!!
Review 85:The price was nice and it seemed private.
Review 86:It is very noisy. We had people outside our room sitting in the patio chatting even after 1pm. We could hear them loud. It is very inconvenient to walk uphill to this hotel.
Review 87:There was a strange foul smell in the room.
Review 88:I liked the location of the hotel. It was off the main drag and quiet. I also like the view of the ocean from our window and the deck.
Review 89:We were told that they upgraded with a jacuzzi bath tub and there was none to be found in our rooms. The water temp in the shower took 15 minutes to heat up them it was hard to regulate the temp to cold or to hot. A microwave was help up by a piece of wood guled to the wall and a sick of wood for the leg it was in the middle. Our friends room had no tv ours was a 13 inch no one was at the office when we checked in. Never again it was horrible.
