Reviews for Aston Kaanapali Shores
Review 1:Had Ghost Ants attack our kitchen from day one. We had no sweet food at all. They offered to move us, but the unit we were in was a better location. They did bait the kitchen cabinet above the sink and it helped.
Review 2:Swimming pools locations, open spaces with privacy.
Review 3:Very expensive resort fee for not a lot of amenities. Parking cost money and there was no room service or breakfast. Not a good value for money at all.
Review 4:Big room
Review 5:There is only one restaurant. The mattresses and pillows were very uncomfortable. The secondary pool opened up 4 days late and the water was ice cold (about 65 degrees). There were not enough waitstaff around the main pool, which was the only pool open. The constant whistling wind down the hallway was scary for our kids. The front door didn't seal properly. There was no extra safely lock on the front door and I would get nervous someone could come in. The TVs were tiny and out of focus/fuzzy.
Review 6:Loved the location which was central to everything, loved the roomy family room area with kitchen and dining space. Liked that there was a washer/dryer in the unit. Loved the general store down near the lobby, great pricing, good selection, & friendly staff. Loved the free movie DVD card. The view as amazing. The front desk & bellhop staff were INCREDIBLY nice.
Review 7:Disapoointed that my boys were denied the free scuba class and they were told because they were traveling 12.5 hours later and that they would not have a chance to book scub in the ocean. They were very disappointed -- as they also signed up for a helicopter tour that was cancelled 2 days in row. I was happy that we were able to use the hospitality room to shower before our flight, however, it was dirty...and only had 4 clean towels - there were 5 of us...my husband & I shared. Als0 the front desk needs to tell you that the "towel keys' need to be turned on on checkout. I had not clue...the towel lady told me. We were lucky that my son who left early gave me hos towe card.
Review 8:The staff was very helpful - front desk, nail salon.
Review 9:The staff is very friendly, helpful, and nice. I loved being able to walk out to the beach. It was convenient to several things. It was really nice having a kitchen and 2 bathrooms for our family.
Review 10:The resort is very dated and should not have to be. The shops were lackluster to say the very least. The gym was cramped, dated, and just plain tired. The overall feel of the place was that of a dying Fountain Blue of Miami, those wonderful hotels that have seen their time in the sun. I understand the back pool is going through renovations so will not touch that one since the end result is very positive.
Review 11:Great staff, as one would have expected from a newer and more expensive resort. A wonderful mattress contributed to a very good night's sleep. The location, close Lahaina, Kaanapali etc was exactly what I was looking for.
Review 12:A little bit expensive for a balcony overlooking the car park. they said a garden view when i booked it. Also only one pool open.
Review 13:Nice place. We would come back again.
Review 14:The restaurant/bar of the hotel wasn't really good. You have to walk about 20 min to find more restaurants and bars. The beach has a reef and you just can walk 1 meter into the sea, the more beautiful beaches are in kaanapali (not kaanapali shores) when you walk about 20 min in direction of lahaina. The fitness center isn't the best but the massages were pretty good (but expensive!) For the price we expected more luxury.
Review 15:There were possibilities to buy foods near the hotel.
Review 16:Old hotel, nothing like what expected or what we paid for. Reception like country motel. Corridors old and hotel seemed empty yet we got room with no view (car park)Went to dinner and absolute chaos- people complaining about food, bill and lack of service. We left and could only go next door as late. That was quite good. Certainly falsely led by promotion and not even in Kaanapali proper. Very disappointed
Review 17:Ease of parking and location including beach
Review 18:Great place to stay with all the home comforts the supermarket across the road has every thing one needs to self cater if you want. Was so lovely and relaxing great pool and bus service down to Whalers Village and beyond is very user friendly
Review 19:The yard crew was cutting the lawn and cleaning the yard area. The wind was blowing the cut grass into the pool. Maybe a better lawnmower would have prevented cut grass from escaping the grass catcher?
Review 20:We liked the location of the hotel and we liked the unlimited DVD kiosk. The pool area was adequate but the seawater at the beach was littered with seaweed and floating junk which was not any fault of the hotel.
Review 21:Resort fee and parking fee should just be included in room rate!
Review 22:Excellent location and helpful staff. Onsite ExpediaExpert a bonus as she was super helpful. Loved how turtles cruise by beachfront most evenings. Beach side amazing, and sun loungers with beach towels were fantastic.
Review 23:The grounds need to be updated. The two pools were small with no shaded areas to sit. It kind of reminded me of a pool you would see at a small apartment complex. The restaurant was something out of the 80's. No room service either.
Review 24:The room was great. Nice kitchen!
Review 25:The staff was friendly and helpful. The concierge assisted us with setting up a sunset cruise that was amazing. Very clean, easy to access, close to amenities We plan on coming back
Review 26:The coffee bar isn't open very long and the pool is underwhelming. I like bigger properties with very large pools and multiple hot tubs so that you're not forced to get super close to strangers. Sorry, but kids pee in the water and you never know what the adults in a hot tub are doing under the bubbles. LOL.
Review 27:Pretty property, although the main picture of the grounds is obviously photoshopped. It's less impressive in person, but still a nice place to stay and relax. Convenient grocery store right across the street. Staff are very nice.
Review 28:We had a hard time hooking up to wi-fi. I didn't like the fact that I hadn't had more family/friends over to enjoy the hotel with us.
Review 29:Front desk Kim was very nice..Upon check out the front desk employee was very nice also. I loved the free upgrade! The pancakes at breakfast was awesome!
Review 30:I read the reviews and it seemed to be a decent property. Needless to say I would rate it a 2 star. If you just need a kitchen and nothing else and plan to go to other beaches then it would work. I wouldn't expect to enjoy your time on the property or even the beach as it's very shallow with the rock. I have no idea why it gets even decent ratings. The cleanliness is sub par and for the same rate their are far better places. Even the daily maid service was poor.
Review 31:Only the fact that it had a kitchen
Review 32:Rooms are older, we slept on the sofa bed so it was not that comfortable. Cleaning crew came and made beds but did not wash them dishes but the staff was friendly and helpful when you requested for information and toiletries.
Review 33:Location, close to restaurants and grocery store & the property is clean. May have been better for older kids...our kids were 8 years old and younger.
Review 34:took 7 attempts to get ruined curtains replaced, that should have been replace 6 months prior.
Review 35:Resort set up great. View wonderful, handy to shops and supermarket. Turtles on our beach :)
Review 36:Although the locations is great, the property is pretty dated. Seemed clean though.
Review 37:We arrived early and not only did the staff accommodate our early checkin, but they upgraded us from a standard/non-ocean view to a suite with a partial ocean view for free! We were thrilled!
Review 38:beach was rocky and not a safe place to swim. People come to Hawaii to enjoy the beach. Since there was no beach that left us to the pool area, which was a joke. If I wanted a backyard pool that only has a enough space for a soccer team I would have saved myself the money and stayed home.
Review 39:It's been 20 years since we've been to this facility and we would not return....thought the place is well-maintained, it is dated!!!!!
Review 40:The location was central to the activities that we were interested in doing.
Review 41:It was a bit of a drive from Lahaina, or even from the Whalers Village in lower Ka'anapali. But I can't blame the hotel for the tyranny of geography.
Review 42:The one bedroom condo we stayed in had everything for an extended stay. Just wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 43:The room had fully equipped kitchen and grills were available outdoor. Sufficient pool areas for the kids. Location is perfect by the shore. Good beaches nearby within short driving distance.
Review 44:Our view of the ocean was blocked by trees that could be trimmed. Our bed was not very comfortable, and carpet needs replaced.
Review 45:The location was great, and staff very friendly.
Review 46:A very weak WiFi signal was really the only complaint we had especially seeing how the it was an added cost.
Review 47:Location was great and the accommodations were very nice. Everything was clean and fairly new.
Review 48:$9 per day parking, no in-room recycling
Review 49:Great place to stay, not too many little kids, nice beach, beach and pool not crowded at all, loved the birds chattering at dawn and dusk, beach club was handy for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you did not want to cook yourself, towel service at pool was great, free scuba lesson was valuable, groceries available across street, free WIFI, Pickle-ball, Shuffleboard, tennis courts were great to use in evening.
Review 50:The decor was a bit dated and the kitchen was not well equiped. For example, the toaster didn't work (although they brought us a new one) and there was no kettle for boiling water. There was also a small hole in the wall of one of the bedrooms.
Review 51:The view of the ocean was great and it was generally comfortable.
Review 52:The room service was late in the day when we needed more towels & coffee earlier. Coffee is terrible in the room - and not enough. I didn't like having a daily charge for wifi or parking. The beach is quite minimal and rocky, although they used floats to show one sandy path to walk out into the sea without cutting your feet.
Review 53:Our suite had everything we needed for two adult parents and two college-age adult sons. Three TV's and a well-outfitted kitchen, plus two ample bathrooms. We had a good view of the ocean during whale watching time, close proximity to stores and a variety of restaurants across the street, nice pools and exercise room, and even a new shuffle board & pickleball court - fun for quick breaks from all the Maui activities. The restaurants there were good enough for a variety of meals. It was easy to get beach towels replaced. Water pressure was good and our room was quiet. AC worked well, too, if you could get the sticky older doors closed all the way. They should lubricate them. Overall a good stay - our second one at this hotel.
Review 54:There was not much of a beach and the children were unable to swim in the ocean.
Review 55:We enjoyed the pool that was no deeper than 4 feet for the children. Very kid friendly.
Review 56:Each time I asked for something, I was told "no". No, you cannot go to the whirlpool early in the morning, no, you cannot have a half hour later checkout, no, you may not use a computer that no one uses EVER in order to send an email when my phone wasn't acceptable.
Review 57:I received an upgrade to a better room. The housekeepers were nice. The coffee in the room was great. Soft bed. Excellent view.
Review 58:No blanket available for bed and hide-a-bed Not enough wash clothes Extra fee for parking The beach is narrow More expensive than the 2 others places we rented (Mauna Lani Point (Big Island) & Wyndham Bali Hai (Kauai)) without having a higher quality.
Review 59:Wifi Room Service Pool Food and Service at Restaurant
Review 60:Food could have been a little bit better
Review 61:Location - right on the beach Restaurant on site Courtesy of staff Good value Comfortable rooms Ample lounge chairs at pools
Review 62:Our 2 bedroom appt was close to the pool & ocean. Breakfast with a view. Supermarket/other restaurants were close-by. Staff were very helpful, efficient & friendly upon check-in & check-out. Easy driving for people used to driving on the other side of the road.
Review 63:Musty smell in rooms Furniture old and table surfaces damaged Bath fawcet dripped $18/day resort fee (over and above price) was excessive $9/day parking fee (over and above price) was excessive - can't get there without car All fees should be included in room price up front. That is, $350/night is not $350/night with required additinal fees. Internet was OK but weak signal in room. Needed to connect with another room
Review 64:Location on beach was nice.
Review 65:Kama. I hope I spelled his name correct was excellent!!!! Excellent customer service.. He made us feel welcomed with open arms. We really appreciated what he did for us especially after our 11 hour flight. Thank you so much. I really hope he is a manager or someone who gets recognized for his work. We will most definitely come back for another stay at this resort. We had no complaints out entire stay!!! Thank you!!
