Reviews for Aurora Hotel & Spa
Review 1:Up a small hill that could be difficult to go up if u have physical limitations. Also glass door to the bathroom reflected a silhouette that left nothing to the imagination of what u r doing in the bathroom.
Review 2:Very friendly staff
Review 3:The half sink in the bathroom was awkward and water kept splashing over on to the floor.
Review 4:Modern, clean and comfortable. Especially liked having a fridge and microwave in the room. So nice to have hotel wi fi that actually works! Friendly and helpful staff was appreciated.
Review 5:Room was very small with hard mattress and the outside patio was locked very early. We also came to check in and there was also no one minding the desk because they were at lunch.
Review 6:Outside patio and breakfast included. Also away from the noisy downtown.
Review 7:Loved the quaintness. Small rooms but given the conservation priority of the island's that's expected. Beautiful. Spa massage was excellent.
Review 8:Loved the staff and hotel. No negative feedback at all.
Review 9:Evrything about this location was spledid. This was our first trip to Catalina Island and i can guarantee that if there is availability at this hotel we will stay here.
Review 10:Staff was really nice, the hotel was clean and the view from the upstairs balcony was amazing! It was located in a great spot too, we'll definitely be coming back!
Review 11:it would have been nice if the rooms were bigger, theyre a little bit small for what we have to pay to stay there. $190 a night for a little tiny room is a bit steep. also it would be nice if the sundeck opened at 6 a.m., it's nice for people that get up early who want to go out there and drink coffee or something. And you guys should put a Jacuzzi on the rooftop, that would be cool. An above-ground Jacuzzi would be perfect and there's more than enough room for it up there.
Review 12:everything, especially the bed oh my god oh my god I wanted to take that bed home with me! The rooms are gorgeous, the location is perfect and everything about the room was superb
Review 13:Two Desk staff members chatting and we were were told only they can poor the wine. After we opened and poured the wine to 3 other people waiting ... As they continued to chat... :/..
Review 14:For comfortable rooms and all amienities.
Review 15:The walk up the hill but it's not a bad thing I needed the work out haha!
Review 16:Loved the balcony over looking the ocean the room was small but perfectly laid out great use of space
Review 17:Awsome views and great staff i think her name was Lori showed us into our room when we checked in and showed us features of the room no one has ever done that before and they also let us keep our bags stored and still enjoy the rooftoo p and coffee after checkout
Review 18:I have nothing bad to say about this place.
Review 19:I loved it everything about it. The staff was super helpful, the bed was really comfortable, breakfast was good. I will definitely be staying there again.
Review 20:Ofcourse there's no shock anybody would love to save a little money. But I was hoping to find better package deals for booking the room. Like of you book your boat trip with your room it saves you 10% or something to that effect. But that's just me being picky. It really was an incredible place to stay.
Review 21:I thought everything was incredible! The room was perfect. The morning breakfast was great. The staff was great. We only stayed one night and I wish we could have stayed so much longer!
Review 22:The rooms are nice and clean but very very small. The walls are thin and you can hear everything from other rooms.....everythinggggg!! We also had a view of an empty house lot that was pretty terrible to look at. For the money...I expected a little more.
Review 23:Staff was amazing...and the free breakfast was pretty nice. The view from their sundeck is unreal. Best view ever! Ate almost every meal there!
Review 24:The bathroom is TINY and there was a strange smell in there. It was bad enough that we went to Von's and bought an air freshener for the bathroom. The walls are extremely thin. We could hear everything that was going on in the room next to us and in the hallways. And the hotel is located up a pretty steep hill, which wasn't great having to walk up and down. Also, felt like the staff at the front desk didn't know have very much information about the tourist attractions and other things around the town so they weren't very helpful in the regard
Review 25:Overall the hotel is clean, beds were comfortable, staff was friendly. They let us check in early and they'll also hold your luggage for you until your ferry time
Review 26:We were put in a room with a horrible view until I complained then wewere given another room with a "somewhat" better view. Thehotel was not fully booked disappointing that they didn't give usthe better view right at check in.(we had to ask for it) bad business!
Review 27:The roof top deck
Review 28:The only thing i was happy about was the really small shower. One decent sized person would berly fit but if their was someone a little bigger they wouldnt. The location was awsome the onlything was the walk up the hill that would kill us since we were tourist we did alot of walking.
Review 29:I liked the view from the sky deck and how friendly the staff was. Also the breakfest that was inclouded in the morning. Everything seemed awsome
Review 30:Location was kind of steep up hill! Especially if carrying luggage. Price for that small of room was too much!
Review 31:The upper deck! Overall design of the small room very good! Staff was helpful!
Review 32:The bathroom felt cramped. The sink was miniature. The grate in the shower was not screwed down and kept moving leaving a hole. Possible safety hazard.
Review 33:The room was very clean. Staff was helpful. It was warm...the A/C was very efficient and quiet.
Review 34:A bit on the expensive side of things. But really, Catalina is quite expensive in general. A little confused about spa appointment. Pretty sure I booked 90mins of massage but only got 60mins. They charged me the right price so its ok.
Review 35:Very modern boutique style place. Coffee selection and continental breakfast is fantastic, although breakfast goes only till 10am, a little bit early for a late riser like me.
Review 36:The only issue we had was not being able to get a couples massage during Sunday.
Review 37:Our room was clean & comfortable ( fantastic view ) The staff was also friendly & very accommodating! Fantastic customer service
Review 38:No elevator, made it a little difficult to get to the top floor with our suitcases. The breakfast was a little sparse.
Review 39:Great location, loved the roof top patio. Rooms were very clean.
Review 40:Great spot and fantastic staff. We had a wonderful time on Catalina Island and can't say enough about the positive experience we had at the Aurora Hotel. The roof top patio and views of the harbor were spectacular and the staff (especially Haleigh) contributed immensly to our experience. The room was clean and comfortable. We are already planning a return trip for next summer.
Review 41:The room was very clean and cozy, but the bathroom shower and sink could be bigger, very small.
Review 42:The location was close to the beach and in town attractions. Front desk personnel were extremely kind and helpful.
Review 43:Dirty room. The room is very banged up. There are many stains, scratches, rips, and mold in the shower. You can hear EVERYTHING all day and night. Do not think you're gonna relax because vacuuming starts WAY before 11am (checkout)!!!!! Smoke goes all thru the hotel. Not to mention, the whole hotel itself is coming apart with stains, scratches, falling apart etc.....
Review 44:Pictures did not match hotel or rooms. Bathroom and shower so small that door can not be open and still move around. Room had only 1 bed and this was never mentioned when making reservations.
Review 45:The roof patio was wonderful.
Review 46:One night the room next to us had a couple fighting, throwing things, and swearing from about 11 to 1 am which woke us up. Domestic dispute was upsetting to hear. The bed was not the most comfortable, the bathroom lacked a bit of privacy from the bedroom area, there was no closet space, and the bathroom sink didn't drain even after we requested a fix.Our room was always made up very late in the afternoon so every time we wanted to come back to the room for a rest, we needed to exit for maid service.
Review 47:The staff was incredibly nice and eager to help with everything and anything! The upper terrace was a major plus and very enjoyable. We enjoyed our stay regardless of the few things which could have been better.
Review 48:smoking out on the patio. It wafted into the hallway a bit. But couldn't smell it in our room
Review 49:Loved the whole thing! Especially the personal attention from the innkeeper
Review 50:Staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms were small but had everything u cd need. Roof terrace was also a lovely place to escape the bustle of the town.
Review 51:There is a bit of a hill to get up to the hill but its only a 2 min walk up it - just be prepared of you have luggage.
Review 52:Great staff who couldn't do enough for us. Perfect location to the beach and shops. Most comfortable beds and gorgeous updated rooms. Great spa feel. Stunning views.
Review 53:bathroom was functional but tiny. would have been nice to have more options at breakfast - hardboiled egg. better quality of yogurt without all the sugar. better baked goods. also shade on the rooftop deck is vital. way too hot and sunny to enjoy it other than at sunset.
Review 54:bed was comfortable.
Review 55:Staff though polite and seemed flustered handling phone calls and check ins. Was on a very long call while we waited. Bed was too soft and king would have been nice. Room and BR very small. Steep hill to get there. Breakfast would have benefitted with some protein- maybe some hard boiled eggs? WiFI very slow and not always working.
Review 56:Beautiful deck and view on the 3rd floor. Able to easily walk from Avalon. Clean and loved the Kourig coffee in the room.
Review 57:Bathroom was very small
Review 58:Nice hotel! Great Staff!!! Rooftop was amazing! This hotel was nice, clean, and comfortable. The free continental breakfast was a plus! It was a great way to start the day. We took our tray up to the rooftop every morning which made breakfast even better. The view from the rooftop was amazing. They also served free wine with cheese and crackers in the lobby during the evening. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful especially Richard. When we return to Catalina Island, we will be staying here again.
Review 59:Breakfast was ok
Review 60:We booked the ocean view queen room and had an awesome view! Really enjoyed waking up to Avalon Harbor. The bed was amazingly comfortable too!
Review 61:Room is very tiny, especially the bathroom, which some other guests complained about. Personally it didn't really bother me. I'm there to explore the island, not to sit in a hotel all day, so who cares? As long the essentials are there and everything looks nice and is clean that's all that matters. Taxi service is a waste of time waiting around and not worth the price. It's a general service and for several different hotels. Would be nice if they had their own. Better to just walk, it's not far (about 10 minutes walking from the boats)
Review 62:The staff are so down-to-earth friendly and welcoming. They even helped with booking my travel and tours. I was impressed with the modern decor. I also appreciated the in-room keurig, the beach bag w/towels, cozy bathrobes and lighted vanity/desk. My 6 year old loved it because they left chocolate kisses next to the bed. :)
Review 63:1. They didn't staff a front-desk person 24/7. It was more like 12/7? This was a major inconvenience. 2. The bathroom sink didn't drain and their front desk people treated it like it was a normal event. It was a major nuisance that no guest should ever confront. They didn't care one bit about the inconvenience it created for us. 3. Room and bathroom were exceedingly small. We're fit, but it someone was oversized they wouldn't be able to use their bathroom. 4. Their continental breakfast was a major joke. For the price of their room, they should have offered a much better food perk. The cont. breakfast rated a D-.
Review 64:A/C wall unit was one of the best systems we've ever seen.
Review 65:The room was a bit small/cramped, we were able to hear noise from other rooms (sliding doors/flushes), and the breakfast was pretty much all carbs (no hot/cooked food like eggs).
Review 66:The rooms were very clean and nice, with a wonderful view of Avalon Bay (the bay-view room). The bed and bathrobes were very comfortable, the hotel was generally quiet, and it was within reasonably close walking distance of the downtown Avalon area.
Review 67:Boutique hotel ie small on room size and on services. So small you cannot come here with a full size suitcase you Will need almost to give upan 1/8 of a rooms floor place no closet per say jut a slot to hang 3hangers. Shower, if you drop the soap can not bend down and pick it up,so tight, toilets are made for midgets. But to top it all off the roomcleaning service is awful and sLOW. Left the room at 10am returned for amassage at 3 to find out the room is not made. The bumbling front deskinforms us that their priority is incoming guests not the existingguests. That really show the armatures trying run this so called hotel. If you want to e joy your vacation find a better suited accommodation, this one does not even come close to an hospitality establishmentdefinitely does not worth the price of admission.Stayed July 2015
Review 68:The view from room 213 the only worthwhile mentioning quality ofthis Motel!
Review 69:EXCELLENT customer service, front desk personnel friendly and the ease of both checking in/out of hotel. They held our baggage for us even before our check-in time, and even called us when our room was ready. SWEET visit for our 28th anniversary!!! We will be back.
Review 70:Aurora is located up a steep incline but a short walk from town. Because it is a boutique hotel with fewer rooms it is more quiet and private than some of the hotels on the main street. Beautiful views, small fridge and microwave, bottled water provided daily as well as a continental breakfast. Rooms are small but well thought out as far as storage and efficiency and beds are comfy. I would stay here again!
Review 71:The room is very small, large enough for 1-2 people max. The staff is friendly. The hotel is not as luxurious as the ad represents.
Review 72:Clean room and comfortable
Review 73:The view out of the regular rooms was not that great. The sink was a bit clogged as well.
Review 74:The hotel was very clean and comfortable. It is not a chain hotel so we felt like our happiness mattered more to them. The massage we had was very nice.
Review 75:TV remote wasn't working properly. We made do for the short while we watched TV.
Review 76:We loved this hotel. Richard was very kind & had a great sense of humor to boot! 2 bottles of water chilled in the fridge for us & a chilled bottle of champagne, all courtesy of the house! Stunning view & cozy, great for our mini honeymoon, especially getting a good night's sleep on a tempurpedic bed! We will be back for sure!!!
Review 77:The rooms were very small. Micro rooms like a camping trailer! Bathroom was so tight it was hard to move around. Continental breakfast was very mediocre!
Review 78:The staff at this hotel was very nice. Hotel was clean and decorated very nicely. Rooftop deck was the best part and a great place to hang out! Very impressed with the happy hour wine!
Review 79:The walls are somewhat thin. Our neighbors kept us up past 1:40 am on a Monday night talking very loud, laughing, and banging on things. It was difficult to sleep through it, so my husband kindly walked over asking them to keep it down. You may want to bring some ear plugs just in case.
Review 80:The staff was extremely cordial and helpful. My husband and I felt very comfortable in our rooms, even though the bathroom was somewhat small, it was still cozy for us. Our room was clean and presentable.
Review 81:We loved our stay here. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Veryrelaxed environment. The room was great! We expected small when going toCatalina because everything is so compact there but They were reallyable to fit a lot of amenities comfortably in a small space. The pricewas extremely reasonable for the island and we were really just lookingfor a place to sleep. We ended up spending more time than plannedrelaxing on their roof top deck because we fell in love with the view.Overall fantastic service. We will definately be going back there.
Review 82:My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Aurora Hotel over Memorial Day weekend. The staff was courteous and attentive and the room was amazing! Thanks for making our vacation a memorable one ....
Review 83:Bed not comfy but we are not used to a Tempuroedic bed.. We're used to a soft bed with pillow top. Our room was 214 and near closet for maids not good at 8 am when they start cleaning and talking in hallways. Bathroom doors no walks it is a frosted glass but you can still kind of see through. Maybe a jacuzzi on rooftop would be awesome
Review 84:Friendly staff let us check in early, Diana was awesome as well as the other staff. Fridge and microwave in rooms and breakfast plus a Keurig with choices of tea and coffee. Small Balcony was nice to have and Amszing views from the roof top. Close to shopping and restaurants.
Review 85:We were told we were upgraded at no additional cost but on check in, were told we'd need to come up with $100/night, so $200 total extra. Annoying.
Review 86:Loved the room location and the bed.
Review 87:Awesome, helpful and very friendly staff. Loved the location and enjoyed getting a mini work out in walking up the hill to the hotel. The rooftop lounge is awesome to hang at! Highly recommended.
Review 88:Be warned: The hotel is on a steep slope, and this was a hassle for us. Unfortunately, we had no luck connecting to the free Wifi.
Review 89:The bathrobes provided were really comfortable, and the shower tile/texture is beautiful. I also enjoyed the rooftop deck and balcony view.
Review 90:It didn't bother us, but walk up the street to the hotel is a little steep. Still is close to everything and our room had a great view. Rooftop patio has great view also.
Review 91:Staff was great!Bed very comfortable. Breakfast was more than continental, very nice.
Review 92:Recommendation: the sheets/linens on the beds were "scratchy" and strong recommendation to use a different textile with a lot more cotton. Usually hotel linen is awesome and this was very unusual. Bed itself was very comfortable but sheets impacted sleeping negatively.
Review 93:Modern design and location. Top floor deck view of harbor amazing. Small room with perfect design. Smart furniture bolted to wall to create floor space to store roller boards. Terrific place to stay.
Review 94:Shower door didn't close all the way so the floor got wet.
Review 95:For the most part the hotel was quiet. Late night party on our last night was disturbing, apparently no one locked the upper deck at 10pm like we were told.
Review 96:This was our first time in Catalina, Avalon and we had an amazing time! The staff was very friendly and helpful, they made our stay very relax and memorable. Every recondition for restaurants and activities was perfect. The deck overlooking the bay was beautiful.
Review 97:That I had to leave. Haha, hmm.. Maybe just a suggestion: fire pit up in the roof top would be nice :)
Review 98:I liked that everything was walking distance from here, I love the roof top patio. I liked how the rooms were set up. And that when I arrived they walked me to my room vs telling me where to go. It's more personal :)
Review 99:our room was too small for the price. restroom was super small and had an bad odor. robes were old.
Review 100:staff was very nice and helpful. view was very nice and quiet relaxing. loved the island.
Review 101:...n/a....
Review 102:The staff was wonderful, the rooms are very clean, and we loved the rooftop patio! The continental breakfast is all you need to get your day started. Just a few blocks from the beach and your right in town.
Review 103:Wi-fi worked only 1 out of 3 days; did not contact mgmt.
Review 104:Updated, modern, boutiquey hotel (minus any staunch qualities), great staff, a block off the main path which made it quiet. Rooms laid out efficiently, small but excellent use of space - very comfortable for 2 people. Wine/cheese on Fridays, wonderful cont. breakfast option each a.m. Glad we stayed, we'll be back!
Review 105:Our only complaint would be how much we were able to hear our neighbors in the night and the piping up above us. I'm not sure if the walls are thin or they were just exceptionally loud- but our neighbors voices kept us up at night.
Review 106:We loved the rooftop patio. It was beautiful and peaceful and made for a perfect place to drink our morning coffee!
Review 107:The wifi is not very good, it was very slow.
Review 108:Loved the location, the staff was very friendly and helpful, they gave us a complimentary shampane due to our anniversary and our room being a little dirty, they came up right away and cleaned it and gave us shampane. They were acomidating with our luggage even when we were checked out we left our luggage there, they gave us free tickets to the museum, the roof top lounge was so beautiful. The location is very peaceful, it's a good location for a peaceful rest and not a far walk to get to the city. We will definitely be going to this hotel again
Review 109:On both days, the staff was very late cleaning our room - after 3:30 p.m. We splurged and reserved a queen room with a harbor view. The room on the second floor had only a partial view; half of it was the building next door plus telephone wires were in the way. The bathroom was the tiniest we have ever been in, even in Europe.
Review 110:The rooftop was comfortable and open, with a clear view of the harbor. The masseuses were wonderful!!! The bed was perfect!!!
Review 111:Steep walk & distance to hotel from Avalon Stairs - no elevators No staff follow-up on some requests Smallish rooms and tight bathrooms Relatively expensive
Review 112:Rooftop deck & view Hotel decor & cleanliness Courteous & friendly Staff Nice breakfast Euro ambience Earlier check-in
Review 113:Rooms not very sound proof, but it was OK.
Review 114:Roof top patio had great views. Front desk staff were very helpful. We accepted their offer to store our luggage for day after we checked out, since our boat didn't leave until late afternoon. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 115:Small room
Review 116:Spectacular view! Caring and friendly staff (they actually called ahead of time to be sure we had transportation to Avalon and to ask how they could make our stay most comfortable.) Great location.
Review 117:The only downfall was that the bathroom was very small and not very private but that wasn't too big of a deal.
Review 118:Staff was super friendly and the continental breakfast was actually pretty good! I was very impressed, they let us check in at 10am instead of 3. Excellent customer service!! I would definitely stay there again! Great rooftop deck as well!!
Review 119:wish the roof top opened earlier we are early risers and would have loved to sit out here and watch sun rise
Review 120:loved the comfortable bed and roof top view
Review 121:Its a hike up that street to get to the Hotel, but, that's Catalina!;) The rooms I feel are way overpriced, considering they are smallrooms, and the walls are so thin. The price per night needs to comedown. Walls are paper paper thin in the room! I could hear people peeingand farting in their bathrooms, and I heard everyone's conversationsin their rooms.
Review 122:The staff at this hotel is super cool and sweet! Love them! The massageroom is a nice touch! Bed was sooooooooo comfy Love all the amenities inroom love all the amenities in lobby love the rooftop love the robes inthe room! Nice!!!! Love the added touch of the candy by the Maid! Lovethe fact that they hold your luggage for you!
Review 123:Your linen supply was placed in the hallway and remained there for two days right outside our door. Your wifi connection is terrible.
Review 124:The staff were terrific, friendly, helpful. The room was small but clean.
Review 125:not a thing
Review 126:The Aurora has a up scale feel and look. The staff is attentive, cordial and efficient. The included breakfast is a step above all other Hotels I stayed at. Visitors are encourage to enjoy the the view of Catalina from the beautiful deck area on top of the structure. Furnishings and decor or top notch for this area.
Review 127:Photos were misleading. I paid extra for a full (not a partial) view of the ocean but half of my view was the side of a building and the view of the ocean was blocked by power lines. The photos they showed as my ocean view were taken from the roof top, not the actual room. They made it look like our balcony was big enough for a small outdoor couch and coffee table. It was actually only big enough for 1 chair. We did pull another chair out from the inside but it was extremely tight. The rooms are extremely small as well.
Review 128:Location was great. Rooms were very clean. Nice roof top deck to enjoy breakfast on.
Review 129:Only two problems that I had was the shower was extremely tiny and the walls are very thin if someone was walking down the hallway just talking you can hear the conversation clearly other than that the hotel was awesome.
Review 130:The people were great. The rooms were on the small side but had everything that you would need. It's a great little space when you're On vacation and should be outside anyway.
Review 131:Can't think of anything:).
Review 132:Every single staff member was over the top friendly and extremely helpful. We were made to feel right at home from the get go. Great experience!
Review 133:the room was small and it smelled like sulfur one night - not sure if it was the AC..
Review 134:the rooftop area was amazing, loved the modern décor, we will go back and this is our #1 hotel that we've stayed in Catalina
Review 135:The bathroom was smelly and the door to the bathroom was very hard to open and close. We had a view of a dirty parking lot and the neighbors could see into our room so we had to keep the curtain closed even though we really wanted a breeze.
Review 136:We liked the bed and mattress, the staff was very friendly and the upstairs view was nice.
Review 137:Crowded July weekend. Room was small but adequate. Paid $60 extra for our room view. Annoying golf carts everywhere. Paid $65 each to the Island conservatory to ride our bikes outside the city. Stung by jelly fish snorkeling.
Review 138:Ferry ride quick from Long Beach. Aurora staff extremely helpful friendly.Loved the roof top but we were extremely disappointed when we were kicked off at 10:00pm and sent to our room, very annoyed. Quaint small city Loved having our bikes. Picturesque views make it very romantic.
