Reviews for Royal Lahaina Resort

Review 1:Having to leave was depressing. I could have moved in to the hotel permanently

Review 2:Happy hour and the sunsets!!! The singer, hula girls and guys were an extra special surprise. This was a first time visit to Maui for us! We will be back. Loved the location, beach, restaurant grill/ pool beach bar! Also there was a very knowledgeable/nice computer guy that helped my husband with his iPad. Can not say enough good things about our stay. They are updating their cottages currently. We stayed in the high rise. I'm sure the cottages will be lovely!

Review 3:The front desk check in person was so cold and unfriendly. It being Christmas Day, a mere "happy holiday" and a smile would have been nice especially after flying over 10 hrs to get there!! She was too busy cross examining how many people were in our party though a second family were with us only to share in Christmas dinner at this hotel but were staying elsewhere! Awful first impression on such a beautiful island!

Review 4:I liked the fact that we were only there for 1 night enroute to our real destination hotel. If we were booked in the garden cottage for longer, i would have complained and changed rooms. Room was so dated and had to leave flip flops on in shower to avoid bacteria.

Review 5:The staff was very friendly, helpful, and courteous at all times. Our room had a great view, and the concierge was terrific. I would highly recommend the Royal Lahaina and would return.

Review 6:The room was pretty tired and there was no sound proofing between rooms whatsoever. The thumping from above was loud too.

Review 7:The location was amazing. So that made up for a lot. We were in a cottage, ground floor on the golf course

Review 8:Room was dirty and remained dirty, the cottages are old and beat up, the food is OK but poor compared to others. Your web site shows the only beach front cottages, a bit misleading.

Review 9:The air conditioning in our first room did not work. Bathroom was full of mold. We would be out all day from 8-3 doing activities then we would come back to nap and change for evening with a young child and housekeeping would insist on cleaning our room then. It was very expensive for holiday week pricing. If you can book this hotel for under $150/night on Maui then it is good option.

Review 10:Location is excellent. Beach access is very easy. Food at hotel is great. It is very low key.

Review 11:We had a 2 bdrm cottage. Older unit, the stove top didn't work so we had 2 hot plates that could barely heat up. A rat showed up on our last day in one of the bdrms. I wasn't impressed with the oh well, about the rat. And forgot to mention the hot plates weren't at all good. for a large amount of rent. The air conditioner from the towers next store should be on top of the building. But we heard the howling of that our whole stay.

Review 12:I liked the grounds, I liked the beach front, the shuffle board out front the hot tub. The size of our 2 bedroom cottage.

Review 13:Construction Noise, Staff. If you want to listen to sawing, jack hammering etc as they rebuild the cottage next to the pool, this is your place. Or listen to the ancient AC unit on the even numbered side of the buidling rattle on 24 /7. Manager is in denial about noise issues ...actually told us they were only "painting". If you want a holiday full of Noise, being told "no one else has complained", etc (see other reviews) by the management of this hotel, then this is your spot. If not, go somewhere else.

Review 14:Location Has potential.

Review 15:The room was a bit dated, the aircondirioni g unit was so noisy it keeps us up the first night. We then opted for opening the windows which was great as it cooled down at night but not sure this is an option for summer travellers

Review 16:The location was great, so close to old Lahaina town but still secluded in kanaapali.

Review 17:Hotel furniture is dated and worn, beds are soft. The sound of room doors closing is really loud and the sounds from hallway are not filtered i.e. housekeeping chatter on radios. Pool(s) are rather small and concrete is cracked. Coffee shop was really expensive and the coffee was weak, even if you ordered expresso. The smoking area, although covered, leaked everywhere when it rained.

Review 18:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar staff were knowledgeable and attentive. The beach frontage is amazing!

Review 19:Parking lot spaces are extremely narrow. I understand charging $20 a day for parking is part of the equation, but the valet parkers were not very cordial defending their reserved area. I would not use the valets for that reason. The metal access plate above our shower was rusted and very unappealing. Room 8005. Should be easily repainted.

Review 20:Good value for the money. Very nice staff.

Review 21:mixed experiences with staff (but some are great like the girl at pool bar), rooms need renovation

Review 22:beautiful beach directly in front of hotel, can be directly seen from beach bar and restaurant. reasonable price for food and a very long happy hour, garden is wonderful

Review 23:Check in was a nightmare - staff member had the 2 men in same room and put incorrect credit card on the room then it was a drama to change us, then told us we couldn't have cottages as overbooked so upgraded to tower which have recently been refurbed. Porter said refurb was 6 years ago and we were put on 4th floor overlooking entrance to foyer. Not happy! Finally managed to find cottages for us when we complained. There was a new 2 bedroom cottage next to us that had no one in it all the time we were there - why didn't they offer us that and we would have been happy to compromise and pay extra.

Review 24:Facilities and scenic outlook

Review 25:We had a cottage room and we just stayed one night so I didn't make a complaint but there were ants crawling everywhere in the bathroom and hallway.

Review 26:We like the property location and beach and the intimate atmosphere.

Review 27:Buffett breakfast not worth the price We paid $88 us and did not think it was worth it. Parking fees were also not expected, as we hired a car to get around and had to pay to parkas resort too.

Review 28:Location,view atmosphere, happy hour was.good the day we spent the afternoon by the pool with our children

Review 29:the jewellery store was a rip off - prices are half the price in Lahaina for the same sterling and opal piece I bought - no returns of course!

Review 30:1) The location right on the beach was cool. (2) Staff was super helpful and friendly at all hours. (3) The pools were nice (4) The restaurant was great and good prices at lunch. (5) $2 shuttle stopped there for Lahaina -- just 10 minutes away by shuttle (6) shopping right there for gifts, snacks, or clothes

Review 31:Charging for parking within hotel premise, in view of there are plenty of car park available for guests

Review 32:Direct access to the Kaanapali Beach. We got a upgrade to partial ocean view room upon check in.

Review 33:Food was okay. The service staff was very friendly which made the dining a better experience.

Review 34:Smaller than most resorts which was nice. If you are looking for a place with a lot of amenities (e.g. spa, lots of swimming pools, etc), this is not your place. Friendly staff and very clean. Balcony was nice for drying scuba gear. I believe most rooms have a partial ocean view.

Review 35:Had to wait in a long line to check out. Wish there was a quicker checkout.

Review 36:Wonderful place. Staff was so friendly. Location is great. Amenities were great too. Will definitely stay there again.

Review 37:Front desk staff grumpy and unfriendly. Saw them arguing with otherguests. They threatened a $100 penalty if we were late in checking outby 30 minutes!! Restaurant poor. Cottage was very old and some thingswere falling apart. Small in room ac was having a tough time coolingdown the room.

Review 38:Location. Overall spread out of the property.

Review 39:The Lahaina has all the facilities you would expect from a top quality resort. Room was comfortable and spotless. Free WiFi available not just in the room but everywhere else around the resort and pretty fast which is not the case in a lot of resorts. Location is great as it is near the Whalers Village (15 min walk or catch the free Shuttle) but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main resort district. Lots of activities available including snorkeling from the resort beach or simply laze away at the resort pool. Staff were courteous, helpful and added value with good suggestions assistance on activities etc. All up this is a great place to stay and I would definitely do so again.

Review 40:No bad experiences just the place is starting to look a little tired and does need some upgrading.

Review 41:The staff were fantastic. Very helpful at all times.

Review 42:Maid service didn't clean our room the day we left the do not disturb sign off of the door so we approached the maid while she was cleaning another room and asked her for some clean towels. She had a bit of an attitude which I did not appreciate under the circumstances. Also we could not connect with your WiFi

Review 43:We loved our ocean front room and the friendly service we received in your restaurant.

Review 44:Nothing

Review 45:This property is near and dear to our hearts! We got married here last year and love everything about it. The staff is great, the bar and restaurant are awesome! We personally think this place has the best beach on the island. Overall this place is fantastic and we have zero complaints.

Review 46:The air conditioner did not work properly in the cottages, but they brought us a fan and did everything to help as best they could. Normally, you would not need ac, but it was hot over there 9/4-9/13...

Review 47:I loved the location; it was beautiful.

Review 48:Small problem with air-conditioning that was immediately fixed by staff.

Review 49:Very good resort right on beach and short walk to other resorts. Springboard for sightseeing around Maui.

Review 50:I did not like the bed...was uncomfortable for me but i weigh 230 and need a stiff bed.

Review 51:Everything about the Royal Lahaina was wonderful for my wife and I (42 and 44, respectively)

Review 52:Unfortunately the last 2 days there was heavy construction RIGHT next to our bungalow balcony, where we were planning on relaxing for the final days of our trip. We even spent an extra hundred bucks for a late checkout. Once the noise got really bad I called to see if they would refund it but they said no.

Review 53:No complaints!

Review 54:Great staff. Clean room. Great location. Good value, especially compared to other resorts around the area. Our "partial ocean view" room was basically a full view of the ocean. Amazing. Nice patio to sit out in.

Review 55:The only thing we didn't like was the very pushy activities coordinator in the office out-side to the foyer. If she tells you the shrimp on the sunset cruise is huge Don't believe her.

Review 56:Great location, staff very friendly, we loved the Hawaiian feel the Hotel had. Very relaxing

Review 57:None

Review 58:I'm a return guest and I've always loved the location of the resort and what it offers. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The room is comfortable and homey and plus the view is breathtaking!

Review 59:Only downside was price of Breakfast menu's. Very high prices for breakfast for what you get. Food was decent, but not for the price. Also, there is a room tax as well. WE paid $25 a night room tax which we were not expecting. Apparently this is different than a resort or hotel fee.

Review 60:Hotel was amazing! WE went on our honeymoon and were blown away by the service and the hotel. Location, beaches, all 5 star! Also, best part of beaches is that there isn't really a lot of public access to the beach it appears. Mainly people staying at nearby hotels and such. Compared to Napili Bay / Kapalua, the beaches here are wide open with lots of space.

Review 61:Good size room with fridge and safe. Very nice restaurant and bar, the food was very good. I really liked the three lawn games that were located near the swimming pool. Great cafe and fitness center. The shuttle service that takes you to Front Street is always on time and runs frequently. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will go back.

Review 62:I didn't like that they didn't have a resort gym, just an extra fee for fitness classes, which were completely full or not available.

Review 63:EVERYTHING ELSE.

Review 64:Staff at reception, on arrival and departure were not welcoming, nor helpful. It is the first time that I have not been asked if I had enjoyed my stay in a hotel. Housekeeping staff did not respond to my request for coffee for the machine until the day after the equestrian was made. Housekeeping staff replaced toiletries intermittently, not as used. Coffee served in restaurant not consistent in depth and flavour.

Review 65:Location ,on a beautiful beach, beside golf course was excellent

Review 66:I noticed several food order errors, which were quickly corrected. The resort had gone through changes in it's long time there. The place has no night-life. A senior, and family hotel.

Review 67:my mother's severe handicapped condition allowed us to move to a walk-in shower room. a very nice room. The staff was very friendly, and spoke to my mother and me by sir-name often.

Review 68:The gecko in the bathroom - was a bit afraid he'd crawled into my suitcase and would appear in my bedroom at home! :)

Review 69:The space in our suite (2bedroom 3 bathrooms - perfect) . We loved watching the golf carts, swimming, shopping and just relaxing after a busy conference in Honolulu.

Review 70:For a property that wasn't necessarily cheap, I kinda felt like once on the property, they needed to nickel and dime you for everything. No free Wifi in room … charged $10 a day, parking $10 a day … $15 if valet, and parking was not covered and on their own lot, requested room with two beds, but none available so it was either $35 a day in addition to booked price for third person with us (my dear Mom), or upgrade to corner room for $150 a day upcharge. Food we had in bar/restaurant was average, and no microwave in the room felt like they didn't want you to ever eat leftovers but buy more food. I don't know, just felt a little nickeled and dimed

Review 71:Okay, this place is really nice. Perfect beach, we had forward facing corner room with front and side balcony. Amazing view, right on the beach. Wake each morning with the sound of the ocean in your bedroom. Felt semi private and relaxed. Beautiful property and room no doubt.

Review 72:The quality of the food for dinner at the hotel rest. could have been much better. The parking situation is horrendous. Fix it!!!

Review 73:The rooms were amazing. The views to die for. The renovation that they recently did with the rooms were well worth it. It was clean, prompt with any requests and worth the price we paid.

Review 74:Slightly dated bathroom but fitted in with the beach cottage vibe.

Review 75:We stayed in an ocean front cottage, ground floor and loved being able to walk out onto the lawn and 50yds to the beach or pool.

Review 76:Make sure you hire a car as its a ten minute drive into town. Although there is a trolley is nice to have that extra freedom so many places to see!!!

Review 77:This was my favorite hotel on our trip. We stayed in Waikiki , Maui and big island and the royal Lahaina was the pick for sure. Beautiful facility's and food.

Review 78:From the moment you get there you are treated like you are special. They checked us in early and upgraded our room for free. The location is the best In all of Maui!!!

Review 79:We had booked a cottage. Arrived and the room was ready. Got there andit was not. So, had to wait. No problem. Got into the room and it washot. A tiny window unit for a big space. And, construction literally 10feed from the window. Circular saw and hammering.Called the front and they said the cottage next door is being renovated and they only work 9am to 4pm. I explained that this is not going to work. They moved us to the tower, which was nice. Made a big deal that they should charge us but weren't. Got to the tower and there is a big fan in the room. Hmmm. Yup, AC barely works at all and no more rooms available. Summary. Counter staff is terrible. Just plain grouchy. Property is old and in need of the renovation, They are doing this ONE UNIT AT A TIME. Look back at the comments and you'll see people have been complaining about the noise for a while and they ARE NOT CLOSE TO DONE. It's just old. Go to the Marriott. It was beautiful.

Review 80:View is great! Bell staff very helpful

Review 81:Having to pay for cabanas, parasols and beach chairs, the room rate plus extras ie taxes is enough these facilities should be free .

Review 82:Pleasant staff, very clean room and comfy bed.$100 of the bill because the air con was out of order for 4 days.

Review 83:The interconnecting doors allowed noise and light to penetrate in to our unit and the upstairs unit one could hear all the movements by other guests. Quite loud as a wooden floor I would guess,

Review 84:Lookout to ocean

Review 85:Housekeeping seemed a little confused at times. Bed made, but no new towels, and coffee cups not replaced, and no new coffee, but a bunch of sugar and creamers?????

Review 86:Easily accessable. Very nice pool area. Restaurant was a little pricey, but food was excellent.

Review 87:Just wished for two more days of sun.

Review 88:We enjoyed everything but the weather could have been better, two days of rain and showers, but you can't control that.

Review 89:Considering they offer a Lu'au (free alcoholic drinks) we found it quite ridiculous that they wouldn't offer bottled water in the room or any where on the property. No vending machines or $5 bottles of water? Weird.

Review 90:Beautiful view of Kan'anpali beach.

Review 91:1- no air conditioning but they did accommodate my family with a cottage with air conditioning. But I think I would have rather just moved Hotels because the cottage was worst than the room. There were no blankets and it was filthy.

Review 92:The only thing I have to say about Lahaina Resort is that their valet gentlemen have excellent customer service.

Review 93:Couldn't check in until 4 pm. The air conditioning wasn't working in the entire hotel. When we asked about internet, she told us it's intermittent --- it was.

Review 94:Beautiful location right on Kaanapali Beach. Most rooms seemed to have an ocean view.

Review 95:We are elderly travellers, no one attempt to help with our luggage, rooms are never clean up for two days while we stay for a week until i really shouted at the counter. pillows and bed are horrible.

Review 96:Nothing..not value for money at all.

Review 97:The staff was just so mean to us. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and that was the last thing we want. We were treated like we didn't matter. The staff would respond to your questions and humiliate you for your question. Completely rude.

Review 98:The cottage that we stayed in was very beautiful. Right next to the ocean. Amazing.

Review 99:Female staff were not really friendly while serving us at the hotel restaurant. Some housekeeping staff were using our bathroom as they were working....

Review 100:Excellent location, good restaurant and activities . nice weather and nice people at the front desk

Review 101:Too expensive for what it is, paid parking, food at the restaurant expensive but far from excellent, unpleasant staff at the reception

Review 102:Location, close to the snorkeling sites accessible from land and pick up locations for the whale watching and snorkeling tours. Rooms big enough and amazing view of the ocean.

Review 103:The wifi didn't work at all… The staff was not the best

Review 104:It is right on the beach and not far from the shopping area. Furthermore, they have buses that are 2 dollars to a lot of places! Strongly recommend Lahaina Harbour!

Review 105:The location was excellent. The cottage was older but we enjoyed the atmosphere and the room reminded us of hawaii. The lanai was wonderful and sunsets were beautiful.

Review 106:Ocean view with a roof right out the window. Should have been a partial view but was charged for full. Manager was nasty at best! Drinks were twice as much as other resorts. We will never stay here again and will tell everyone we know!

Review 107:The pool is not worthy of resort status but the ocean was safe to swim in and warm.

Review 108:The location is great right on the beach and a short walk to Whalers Shopping centre. The valet parking is the least expensive of any hotel I have ever stayed in.

Review 109:Sewer gas oder in room, staff somewhat detached, maid service mediocre, items such as lotion etc not replaced. Expected more for price.

Review 110:Great location and attractive rooms and hotel overall

Review 111:Wifi limited in rooms.

Review 112:Beautiful setting, we were upgraded to an ocean view cottage, which I would recommend. We had a great stay here on our first trip to Maui. We will be back and staying in this hotel.

Review 113:The garden cottage rooms are becoming tired but are undergoing renovation. Our friends had to move from their garden cottage room after a night of rain found it's way through the roof and into their bedroom. While basic the garden cottage rooms do offer quiet, rooms wit a garen atmosphere.

Review 114:The grounds are beautiful. We had a garden cottage room looking out on to the golf course and coffee each morning on the lanai. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The view over to Molokai and Lanai and the sunsets are magnificent. Whales were leaping and thrashing constantly offshore in a spectacular display of nature.

Review 115:Pool not elaborate but beach is right there with easy access to beach bar and music

Review 116:Everything was great, extremely friendly, great location and convenient

Review 117:Parts of the resort are starting to show their age. While our bathroom was clean it needed upgrading, as did our patio furniture.

Review 118:Beautiful beach and grounds of resort, watching the whales, easy walking to neighbouring resorts, free shuttle to nearby shopping and cheap transport to Lahaina.

Review 119:I truly have no complaints!

Review 120:The very first positive experience was that I was able to book several days at the same rate for the entirety of my trip! I was beyond thrilled about that, however the Royal Lahania just happened to put a cherry on top by putting me in an Ocean Facing room on the 10th floor! Needless to say it was a breathtaking view! The staff is very friendly and accomidating, they are truly happy to serve you (although I am not very demanding). I was able to easily navigate the facility, and book the excursions that I wanted to. The Royal Lahina has a Laua every night, and it is easy to buy a last minute ticket, the fire dancers are incredible! I was there in January and I was completely fortunate to see whales everyday, and if snorkeling is up your ally the Royal Lahina does not have reefs off of its beach, but what it does have is a pristine ocean floor that is mesmerizing! I was pleasantly surprised that I could hear the whales singing while I was enamored by the soothing environment, I was surprisingly greeted by a humpback whale! We played for a bit, and then it was off. I thought that I literally couldn't be any happier until a small pod of dolphins swam all the way back to shore wth me! I am sure that this doesn't happen everyday but I feel like I was a very lucky girl, and will remember this trip for the rest of my life. The Royal Lahina is about a half mile from The Whalers Village where you can shop and catch the caterermans for day snorkeling day trips.

Review 121:The hostess kept trying to seat us away from the ocean view.

Review 122:Location on the beach. Restaurant was very good--offered an early bird breakfast and dinner. View from room was amazing.

Review 123:The parking lot was full and we were unable to self park our car. Had to do valet service.

Review 124:The Hawaiian ambiance really stood out in the decor and setup of the hotel. We enjoyed the koa shutters and nostalgic Hawaiian artifacts in the room. The staff was very service oriented even though we arrived late to our destination due to delayed air flight. We are kamaainas (raised on Maui), and we were delighted to enjoy what this hotel had to offer. We were also happy to learn that the cost of the valet service was the same as the self serve parking for the first night.

Review 125:Shower un-adjustable and actually could be dangerously hot. Needs repair. Carpet is apart at seams. Self-parking spots entirely too narrow.

Review 126:Excellent staff attitude. Lovely grounds. Professional front desk personnel. Caring customer service staff. Room good value for the money with exception of shower and carpet situation.

Review 127:- free wi-fi on the top floor (12), room 1215 was so slow and unreliable as to be almost unusable. Luckily the free wi-fi in the lobby is very fast

Review 128:- comfortable beds - great decor in room and bathroom - quiet - good view from balcony

Review 129:Parking lot Front desk clerk's all the ladies with no smiles andnever used my name once no drop keys box map needs improvements

Review 130:Nothing! Pay a lot and no hospiatty from checking in at the rude desk.Clerk's need training and parking lot needs improvements groundworkers are the nicest people on the premises.

Review 131:In house movies were too expensive to consider.

Review 132:There was free wifi! View from room was great and it was well-appointed. Staff were very obliging. Had a great stay and will return and recommend to others.

Review 133:Their "ocean view" is more of a "partial ocean view". A/C didn't work properly. We were freezing.

Review 134:The bed was very comfortable.

Review 135:Don't get me started! We accepted the "upgrade". Unbelievable! I cannot comment on the hotel itself only the cottage. We felt very disrespected by suggesting an upgrade and could not believe how run down our "cottage" was. I can't imagine what the room would have looked like had we not had the "upgrade". Rotting wood and smelly. The place was built in 1962, I believe, and nothing has been done since then, I'm sure. No hot water in the bathroom sink but thankfully in the shower. We have no complaints with the staff, they were polite and very helpful. We would never recommend this place and will let our friends know.

Review 136:Nice grounds

Review 137:Cottages. The air conditioning was so bad we couldn't sleep and had to turn it off which made it so hot we couldn't sleep. Hey need an update for the money.

Review 138:Beach pools restaurant location were great

Review 139:We found the 2-bedroom cottage buildings to be very run down and poorly maintained. The rooms were dark and musty with mildew in the showers. We were traveling as an extended family and when we asked to switch rooms we were told that nothing else was available. I was very disappointed with booking.com that they allowed these cottages as a rental option on their site given the poor state of the rooms. Recommend against renting the cottages as they are not worth the price. Lastly we were disappointed with the housekeeping service. We accidentally broke a glass in the bedroom and it took the hotel 5 hours to send someone to clean it up. After they claimed to have cleaned there was still glass on the floor where my husband ended up cutting his foot. We had to get our own broom to properly clean the area so no one else was hurt. Although the hotel is located in a central location close to Lahaina and on a nice beach, given the poor facilities and the terrible housekeeping service we will not be staying here ever again.

Review 140:The beach was nice with a long sandy beach. Also there was a beach walk that connected to adjoining properties which allowed for nice walking/ jogging path along the waterfront.

Review 141:stayed in a cottage room. the rooms are very old, haven't been renovated in a very long time. not what you expect from 4* hotel. the walk from the parking to the room is long, and the parking is dark at night doesn't worth the price, we stayed at much better hotels for the same price

Review 142:location just on the beach
