Reviews for The Kauai Inn

Review 1:No bad experience. Not a walking location/need a car Nearest restaurants/shopping 1 mile No hot tub/no nearby beach

Review 2:Great continental breakfast (lots of fruit) Friendly, helpful staff Microwave and refrigerator Minimal daily housekeeping Free parking/no extra fees Small pool with poolside tables/loungers Quiet

Review 3:Internet was sketchy at times.

Review 4:This small hotel was isolated from Lihue on a large quiet property, yet just a short drive to many places. The place was totally updated using all the space in the tiny room to its best advantage. The maid service was excellent. The sheets were super crispy and clean. The room had a frig and microwave and large screen TV with a patio that looked out on green space. The pool was nice and they gave you a breakfast!! All this for such a low price. . . a true bargain.

Review 5:Please do not share your credit or debit card details anywhere in the USA including Hawai'i.

Review 6:....Location is great but you wont find any shopping centers near. The Kauai Inn is located at a very quite and calm place just near the lush green mountains. The facility has a very nice swimming pool and the breakfast is very traditional but good. You should consider renting a car to visit the Kauai island. The public transportation is not frequent and the taxi is very expensive.

Review 7:We had the one room without AC. - and the one room that had not been updated. Many mosquito bites. Had people next door up late (2am) loud, smoking and possibly more. Night manager did not respond to phone call until third try. Initial contact was made with loud folks- but it started up again. I liked the place, and all other guests were quiet and seemed great. Unfortunately this problem affected us. I might try it again but was disappointed this trip.

Review 8:Pleasant location and great staff.

Review 9:Not so clean. Needs some updating. You have to go thru industrial area to find it. We thought the gps was wrong til we got barely out of the industrial area and saw it.

Review 10:Great air conditioner and comfortable beds.

Review 11:The nearest shopping centre, mall and restaurants are a 10-15 minute walk but you will probably want a car. Breakfast was fruit and toast, adequate for us.

Review 12:This is not a "resort" on the beach style of hotel. With so much to do on Kauai we were always out and about and not at the hotel. It was an excellent place to sleep and be based, much cheaper than properties on the beach.

Review 13:It was a shame that the pool was being renovated for our entire stay (almost to the minute - the finishing touches were being put in place as we drove off ...). We had been really looking forward to it ...

Review 14:The location was great as a base - very handy for the airport, and for the highway to get to other parts of the island, yet blissfully quiet and felt away from it all. The mountain view from the patio was amazing. Staff were lovely - unobtrusive but very helpful. Special thanks to Bud and the stunning young lady for their help getting hold of my luggage which the airline lost for 48 hours, and to the slightly older lady for great advice on where to go for emergency shopping in the meantime. The breakfast items were simple but gave an easy start to the day - fantastic value for "not included"! Loved the occasional geckos and lizards on the patio.

Review 15:Wifi didn't work well in the rooms. But I had great data coverage on Verizon and tmobile. So again not really an issue for us.

Review 16:Cheap and only about 2 miles or so from the airport. Nothing special but we spent all our time out and about so it worked great. Great view of the mountains too.

Review 17:All good.

Review 18:Great staff, very helpful. Great location close to Lihue airport which was nice do to our late arrival (do call and arrange for arriving after reception closes). Not an "on the beach" or "stunning views" hotel, tho a beach is nearby within walking distance and many of the rooms have nice mountain views. Also not an "immaculate rooms" nor "three course breakfast" kinda place, tho again the room we were in was quite clean and comfortable and the simple fruit platter, coffee/tea and bagel breakfast fare got us off to a great start to our vacation. If you want a place on the beach, with the views and immaculate rooms - spend the big bucks. Plenty of choices there. We'd stay at the Kauai Inn again for sure.

Review 19:The rooms and bathrooms are a bit small but no big deal. Wifi was good but sometimes the signal gets weak for no reason yet could manage to work from room.

Review 20:The location and the views are superb. The complementary breakfast (which is not mentioned) really made our stay :) Very nice staff and the mansion is a tropical style with nice furniture and free parking.

Review 21:Room was by a park and was extremely noisy both nights we were there. Lucky it rained the second night and they left the park early, by 12 at night.

Review 22:It was a nice room

Review 23:All stairs - no ramp access for us older patrons. Also, hard to control temp with A/C unit mounted so high. Wasn't reminder to turn in my key on check out which resulted in a phone call asking about it a couple of hours later. That should be a standard question from the clerk OR put up a reminder sign. Fortunately we had not left the island and was able to return it with no penalty.

Review 24:Although it appears to be in a "seedy" part of Lihue, it turned out to be a close location for what we did.

Review 25:We wish breakfast was out earlier. We had to meet friends to kayak each day by 8am so missed it most days we were there.

Review 26:Very peaceful, beautiful view from our room, yet close to town. Happy to have a fridge and microwave too.

Review 27:Nothing.

Review 28:Everything. Clean and comfortable. Large rooms in an incredible setting...10 mins from the airport but you wouldn't know it!Wish we could have stayed longer...so much more than a stop over hotel and close to places on the dry side of the island.

Review 29:Only for example: We asked for the possibiliy of leaving baggage in the hall: rudely denied. We kindely asked for early check-in to the receptionist: rudely denied and we waited from 6.15 am to 8.00am.

Review 30:Very very slow wifi in room and Internet in office when trying to check in for flight

Review 31:Very helpful. Great location for departure to airport. Very homey feel of property with great mountain views.

Review 32:Some decor was a little dated and the rooms only have microwaves. Good for a short stay but good for a long stay where you are going to be out and about.

Review 33:Very nice and quiet, tucked away in a really cute area. Nice view of the mountains, about a 30 minute walk to the beach and resuraunts. A good idea to rent a car and take some drives, very beautiful. The hotel was very nice, friendly and very helpful staff. Was great a stay for couples and was very well kept.

Review 34:none

Review 35:It is a quite lovely inn. Staffs are very warm and lovely. We could checkin early, thanks to them. The whole inn has some nice lawns and trees surrounding it. Swimming pool is clean too. It illuminate in the night, I think that's fun.

Review 36:industrial environment, small room

Review 37:nice green and quiet lodge but in an industrial bay area; good location close to the airport and ideal for trips to both parts of the island; friendly persons and relaxing breakfast site

Review 38:I wasn't able to use wi-fi in my room, the signal was too weak, but outside, near the pool it was fine.

Review 39:This is not a fancy, high-end place, but it's a good value for the money. It's clean and well-maintained inside and out, with a friendly, helpful staff. I would recommend it to any travelers on a budget who don't demand 4-star accommodations.

Review 40:The Kauai Inn is a cozy little hotel that feels more like a B&B. Super quiet, and perfect if you don't want the mega-resort atmosphere. The staff was really nice, and treated us like Ohana.

Review 41:The AC was really loud, was hard to sleep with it on. But if you cooled the room before going to sleep and kept the ceiling fan on it was alright. No other complaints otherwise.

Review 42:It was very clean and quite. Good value for money. It isnt a fancy, resort type place, so don't expect much. But if you are looking for a nice, comfortable place to rest after a good days hike this will be a good option. Another bonus location is pretty good as to go to both sides of the island will take roughly the same time. No parking or wifi fees as well.

Review 43:After arriving back to the hotel after a long hot day. Just to find outthat room service decided to turn off the ac in our room. Never enoughclean towels, plaster peeling from the pool. I felt like I was camping.

Review 44:Location, a few staff members.

Review 45:wi-fi reception was not very good in the room. The reception desk was closed pretty early.

Review 46:private veranda to sit on outdoors in addition to a nice pool surrounded by pleasant garden.

Review 47:I wish there was a safe in the room and a more secure lock on the door.

Review 48:The staff was super friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was just enough for me.

Review 49:Some pastries, yogurt, juice and coffee make up the free breakfast.

Review 50:Comfortable and clean. This is not the Ritz Carlton so don't expect a lot. The Inn is over 100 years old and is kept in very good condition. It's a little hard to find, between the Port of Nawiliwili and the Menehune Fish Pond in a residential area.

Review 51:Room was absolutely ok but very common.

Review 52:The whole ground was very well-groomed with nice flowers and gardens. Complimentary breakfast with fresh fruits was a big plus.

Review 53:Wifi didn't work in my room so had to sit by the pool to connect. Once I was connected the speed was reasonable.

Review 54:The room was very clean, the staff and cats were friendly and the location was nice and tucked away from the main roads.

Review 55:Not too many good restaurants nearby. Cell coverage on Verizon was really poor.

Review 56:We were liking for a reasonably priced place to stay in lihue for a couple of nights before being able to check into our condo in princeville. The kauai inn ticked every box, and I would definitely stay there again if we needed an place in Lihue.

Review 57:Breakfast was available later than when we left for our day's activities; 6;45 would have been better for us.

Review 58:Staff we're very helpful and quickly solved the two problems we had.

Review 59:Very dated room decor. Many upgrades needed in room. Closet sliding door did not function properly. Microwave was the smallest I've seen. Wifi was hard to navigate and get online. Staff was unhelpful for a late check out that we had previously requested ($80.00 charge).

Review 60:The grounds were very well maintained. The location was easy to find and close to Nawiliwili and Lihue.

Review 61:The breakfast was orange slices, pineapple and English muffins. Very lite appetite. No place close by to get something to eat.

Review 62:Convenience to the airport Rooms were well maintained and clean The facilities and grounds were nice

Review 63:close to harbor. truck around during normal business time, but not a big deal if you are out during that time. they need a wifi signal booster. breakfast could be better.

Review 64:parking is close, services is good. middle point to where we want to go.

Review 65:While convenient, at night, it was a bit difficult to find the hotel - just a bit off the beaten path. Some decor was a bit worn.

Review 66:The location was convenient to all our travels and the price was very reasonable. Wifi was a plus, the property was nicely laid out and attractive, and kept clean. Amenities were fine and I was surprised at the number of TV channels.

Review 67:None

Review 68:We stayed here before, and because everything was good before, we returned this time. Again, the good location, the staff, the parking made us happy.

Review 69:Bed was so soft it was like a water bed!

Review 70:The location was ideal, right in the middle of the island and near the airport. Everything was 1-2 hours away to each side of the island so very central.

Review 71:Very uncomfortable bed and mattress Bare minimum continental breakfaswe forgot a baby down pillow for as bad neck and tried to call the next day with no answer sent email but received no answer

Review 72:We liked nothing

Review 73:Breakfast, what was left of it after the first few people, was basically a piece of toast and a slice of orange. Lots of people standing around with no place to sit. The gate to the adjacent pool, with several empty chairs, was mysteriously locked. The 2 on duty employees seemed oblivious to the lack of food and seating.

Review 74:Nice room, good location, good setting.

Review 75:It was close to the airport. We arrived very late at night and wanted something very close. The next morning we were able to get to our other accommodations. I wouldn't recommend this place for more than one night.

Review 76:Our flight arrived late at night and we didnt arrive at the property until almost midnight. Another couple arrived when we did and a third family just before us. After hours check in was not easy to figure out and the phone provided outside to call for late check in didn't work because there was no mention of the need to dial a 9 before calling the # provided.

Review 77:This small and quaint property provided a pleasant stay for us for one night before we were able to check in to the larger resort we stayed at for the remainder of our trip. It was cute, very clean, nice grounds and pool area and the staff was friendly, even addressing some guests by name as they greeted them in the Ramada for breakfast.

Review 78:Phone would not work in the room, and could not be fixed since line is defective. Staff leaving doors open during cleaning = bugs in the rooms. Some noisy customers but npt a pb for sleeping.

Review 79:Beautiful premises, at a good location for visiting the island. Nice and friendly staff. Well equiped room.

Review 80:The website mentioned there was wifi for people to use; however, there wasn't any.

Review 81:The room and facilities actually look like the pictures on the internet site

Review 82:Consider cereal and milk for breakfast.

Review 83:Recently refurbished, A+ staff, lots of little considerations including having beach towels, beach mats, and kids toys available. Liquids available around the clock, light breakfast. Great central lanai area for meeting people. Best price in the area. Everyone staying there was happy with the choice.

Review 84:We had arranged a late checkin. If the clerk had not come back on his own, we would likely have been on the sidewalk all night as the courtesy phone was hidden and the posted call number was for the closed office.

Review 85:Part of the charm was the older style. Part of the problem is the older style. The rooms are comfortable, but small. There really isn't anyplace to put suitcases except on the floor.

Review 86:The atmosphere was really "old Hawaiian. Lot's of charm in older, well-kept buildings.

Review 87:The roosters ( I've stayed on Kauai several times before). The nature all over the island is very vocal at all hours. By the second night I didn't hear them, 3rd night I forgot they were even there.

Review 88:I liked the small feel of it all. Plenty of rooms over a nice spread but it felt cozy. Everything was easy to get after from the front desk, the pool. Great staff all around and very helpful. Would recommend a stay here every single time

Review 89:Quiet and lovely inn with stunning mountain views. Location is very convenient to get around to different parts of the island. Staff is kind and helpful.

Review 90:This property is charming and tucked away but you are close to the airport but you can't hear it. Our room had a dramatic view of the mountains. The grounds are lush.

Review 91:A bit hard to find after dark.

Review 92:This is a good place for your first night on the island. Our flight arrived in the evening and we weren't scheduled to get into our condo until the next day. KI made for a good place for this.

Review 93:we got queen size bed instead of booked king size without any apology, the bed was so old that our backs hurt, very dated rooms with noisy aircon, wifi did not reach our room. It is cheaper accommodation in Kauai but it is no bargain and they should consider big renovations!

Review 94:greenery, one of the cheaper places on Kauai, unexpected little breakfast

Review 95:The internet signal was poor and I had to keep logging in with a password each time.

Review 96:I enjoyed the morning coffee and fruit to start the day and meeting other guests. The room was always clean and comfortable too. If I needed anything the staff helped. The setting is pretty but you need a car to get to shops and restaurants.

Review 97:Not a great location if you don't have a car (25 mns walking from the beach). Noisy (helicopters, roosters, walls a little thin)

Review 98:Local hotel, very friendly staff, breakfeast included.

Review 99:We couldn't get a wi-fi signal in our room (305), so to use it we had to be by the pool or in front of the office.

Review 100:We stayed in a king room with patio. The bed was huge and very comfortable. They offer free coffee, hot water, lemonade and orange juice during the day and every morning we've been served a complimentary breakfast. The staff was very friendly.

Review 101:It was a difficult place to find, especially at night. It wasn't anywhere close to a beach, in fact it was in a residential/industrial area, not a resort area. The door lock seemed flimsy and not very secure. Slim pickings for "complimentary breakfast."

Review 102:The mountain view was beautiful, and the one staff person was very nice.

Review 103:The price was pretty high for what you got. No place in the bathroom to put things. It has been a long time since I got an actual key for the room.

Review 104:the staff was very nice, the room was really clean, very well maintained.

Review 105:Old, noisy, window air conditioner but did the job.

Review 106:Location close to airport and Lihue. Easy to access major road around the island. Even though it's close to the port in an industrial area, the Inn itself is an oasis of peace and greenery with a pool. Ample parking.Modest 3 star caliber hotel. Breakfast is juice, coffee, english muffins, cut up fruit- adequate.

Review 107:a little hard to find, best to have a good map or have directions for your stay

Review 108:goof for a couple of nights, or if you are travelling on a budget, clean, friendly, has most what you'd need

Review 109:Good location, very quietly (except for street coks), beautiful views, excelent room, confortable bed (king size), helpful service, and we had a very awesome friend in this hotel (Jesabelle, the black cat), she was the best atraction of this place! Cute & lovely cat, every day she was waiting for as at our dor room! Lovely!

Review 110:very difficult to find in the dark. need to give much better directions from the airport, and better signage.

Review 111:quiet, comfortable, spotlessly clean, very friendly and helpful.

Review 112:Ummmm..... can't think of anything.

Review 113:I love the view. If you are not lucky enough to stay ON the beach, this little gem has a great view of the mountains it is nestled between. The next best thing is how friendly Natalie at the front desk is. She helped out with a few things that went above and beyond. Thank you Natalie!

Review 114:Office does not open early, and ice machine is not available until the office opens. A small kitchen with a coffee make and coffee would have been helpful.

Review 115:Excellent location and very helpful staff.

Review 116:Loud people above room and in the next room making snarky comments.

Review 117:Enjoyed the friendly resident cats, fresh fruit, the fact that the roosters stayed away from the building and were far enough away so that they did not cause nights of fleeting sleep. The dark hardwood floors and shutters gave it the Kauai plantation feel.

Review 118:Location was out of the way particularly at night

Review 119:Value for money in Kauai was excellent. Breakfast fresh fruit we enjoyed along with coffee, muffins etc

Review 120:1) Slow wifi/internet 2) Near to harbor - ocasional loud noises from ships in the harbor

Review 121:1) Convenient location to Lihue airport (3 mi) 2) Short drive to shops and resturants (Harbor Mall), The Outlets (Kukui Grove), Gym 2) Ample parking

Review 122:Fawcet diverter was broken so the shower wasn't working efficiently. Pool is only 3' deep.

Review 123:The grounds are beautiful.front desk staff were very nice.its a very quiet setting. The cockerels add to the charm!

Review 124:Nothing ..... maybe the rooster's wake up call ..... But even that was ok and part of the charm

Review 125:Friendliness of staff. A bit of "old world" Hawaii. Value for money.

Review 126:Wi-Fi signal was a little poor and could not be used in your rooms. Some things were a little out dated, but those things do not bother me that much.

Review 127:The feel and the location was a great place to get away to relax.

Review 128:King room was a bit tiny. Road to the hotel passes the harbor, not a very pleasant area but hotel is located very nicely.

Review 129:Complimentary breakfast, quiet location. Bathroom with window. Fridge, microwave. swimming pool. Colonial atmosphere.

Review 130:The wi-fi was impossible!

Review 131:The room was comfortable and clean and the location, although tucked behind the Lihue docks, was quiet and pretty. The breakfast is modest, as advertised, but there coffee is ever-present is a refrigerator in the room.

Review 132:Loved the location...very pretty, quiet, home away from home! Such a great price for a comfortable king bed with three fluffy pillows, great shower (soap and soap gel provided, nice towels), beautiful view out picture window, parking very close to room, good-sized refrigerator and microwave, flat screen TV excellent, WiFi reception excellent! Really enjoyed my stay and would return in a heartbeat!

Review 133:Great location, clean, priced right, great staff

Review 134:Quiet place. Complimentary breakfast. Juice available after hours

Review 135:Loved the room and the view

Review 136:Noise from park and residential neighbors

Review 137:Landscape, setting, friendly staff, fruited cold water and tiled bathroom.

Review 138:Complimary breakfast

Review 139:Location to town. Quiet
