Reviews for West Wind Inn

Review 1:I can't think of anything I did not like.

Review 2:Beautiful place by the sea, very nice, spacious room with a screened balcony. I had breakfast there in the morning, sea view and all - perfection. The room had a microwave and a fridge, a blessing for anyone preparing his/her own food. Nice pool and bar area, too. The staff made me feel at home immediately, they were genuinely friendly and welcoming. The area: Anyone who knows Sanibel knows the beach is fantastic, this area is no exception. It's just beautiful. And the location of the hotel made for a quiet night - I slept very well. This was the perfect place for me to wind down and relax! Oh, and free, fast WLAN. I loved it and will come again, definitely. Even the price was great for what was offered.

Review 3:Location was excellent, just steps from the beach. Beautiful views, both at sunrise and sunset. Room was very clean and a good size. Highly recommend and I would stay here again.

Review 4:Disappointed with the small room and bathroom so small you could only stand in one spot and turn around. Needs to be updated (painting, caulking, beds). Little tables too small to eat a sandwich at.

Review 5:Right on the beach, shuffleboard, pool, computer room, wifi, landscaping all very good.

Review 6:The price incl. the upgrade was high in our opinion. All extra's you want you have to pay for.

Review 7:The room we booked, was very small for 5 days stay. A upgrade for $20,- brought us a much better room. But the location was perfect.

Review 8:Room was small and very dated, bathroom was very inconvenient due to small size and we were expecting a kitchenette, not just an out of date microwave and small fridge. You have to unplug lamps to plug in modern devices. Much cheaper hotels have updated from this issue long ago. A simple solution would be to update the very old lamps to ones with plugins at the bottom. Lastly, any beach amenities like chairs and umbrellas were extra cost. Not a great overall value.

Review 9:Location was great as far as getting to places in either direction on the island. Pool, Tiki bar, and grounds kept nice. Room was clean and shelling at this location was very good while we were there

Review 10:The only true complaint would be the beds were definitely wore out, and both of us had a terrible nights with lack of sleep. We found out we slept better on the pool side even though the sun sure told us that wasn't a great idea.

Review 11:The people were awesome and very friendly! The location is wonderful and beautiful. The pricing was fair for the area, and ease of access was great.

Review 12:Internet access was very poor. They clearly don't have enough bandwidth to handle the number of guests. It was sporadic and totally unpredictable. Very frustrating.

Review 13:Nice beach access and shell washing station. The room was roomy and comfortable, and we really appreciated the tile shower. The rocking chairs on the screened-in porch were a nice touch. The front desk was very helpful.

Review 14:Gotten eaten alive by the bugs, even coated in Deet! The screen on my porch was ripped in several places ....not good! I had bugs inside the room and not just little ones...I had one that was two inches long! Also had a lizard that lived under the rusted refrigerator. Room was very dated and dank. Carpet old and nasty.

Review 15:The bartender at the pool was fun!

Review 16:The dining facility was a disappointment. The waitstaff seemed almost morose, the prices seemed out of line for the quality, and the room echoed with the least amount of noise - possibly acoustic ceiling might help.

Review 17:Location on beach near end of commercial properties was great, as was your willingness to move us when the room was in need of repair.

Review 18:The restaurant on site is a bit pricey, but I didn't expect anything less. The food was presented well though.

Review 19:Loved the bike rental and beach access. We rode for hours due to $15 per day rental and awesome bike trails all across the island.

Review 20:Everything was wonderful!

Review 21:We got a great rate on booking.com. The hotel room had a view of the beach. The sunsets were awesome. The staff was great and helped in every way. We loved it and would be thrilled to go back any time!!

Review 22:Bathroom was very small and the bedroom area was in need of an update. The room had only one lounge chair when it should have two especially when there are two guests.

Review 23:The staff was very helpful upon our check in. Since we were staying on the second floor, Candy offered to have someone take our luggage to the room. Since there were two of us, we requested a second lounge chair which Spencer delivered to our room. The restaurant staff and food was deserving of a 5 star restaurant!

Review 24:Got bitten all over my body late every afternoon by disgusting sand flies.. Unable to sleep at nights while there. Unsightly insect bites all over from sand flies. This was gamechanger to prevent a repeat visit.

Review 25:Pleasant environment

Review 26:Found the air-conditioner in the room to be too close to bed, which resulted in interrupted sleep.

Review 27:Location, Friendly Staff, Cleanliness. Breakfast was Excellent. Pool is wonderful. Room was very clean.

Review 28:We walked in and the room had a horrible moldy smell. We told the front desk as my friend was having a respiratory meltdown. The janitor said they must have missed that room as it hadn't been opened up for months and that we could get a new room or he could put in a new air conditioner. We switched rooms and it was better, but not great. He later told us the AC filter was really moldy. The better room AC still gave my friend some breathing difficulty in the middle of the night. We also felt the place had a run-down feel for the price. I wouldn't stay there again .

Review 29:The pool and the beach. Beds were fine. Coffee maker in room.

Review 30:The room smelled musty and the bathroom wasn't clean behind the door. It was also a very tight fit between sink, toilet and shower door. Parking was extremely tight.

Review 31:The bed was comfortable and the small patio was nice.

Review 32:The value for money is really poor. Almost nothing was included in the initial cost of the room.

Review 33:The hotel is next to one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches in the island.

Review 34:The facilities were clean, there was beach access, nice pool, pool bar with lunch, snacks, and happy hour on Wednesdays which was awesome, as was our bartender Mary. Our room had a sunset view and the staff was very nice. Couldn't have asked for more! :)

Review 35:Only not excellent experience was the restaurant - food was OK, service fair, atmosphere mediocre. We didn't go back after one breakfast.

Review 36:Stay was too short - will be back for a longer stay. Like that it's so close to the beach, quiet, easy to get to.

Review 37:parking sometimes was a bit challenging where our room was located but that would not be a deal breaker for us to stay there again.

Review 38:loved the location and staff.

Review 39:Did not like having to pay extra for beach loungers and umbrellas. Should be included in room price. One day we only wanted to sit for less than 1 hour but you had to pay for a whole day!

Review 40:Proximity to the gulf and islandy vibe! Also the room was nicely updated.great view! Great value for the money

Review 41:Restaurant was just average. The mussel dish was tasteless. No-see-ums can be bad if one is on a balcony without a breeze (the balconies are screened with mosquito mesh).

Review 42:Great access to the excellent beach and wildlife refuge. Easy access by care or bicycle to town. Very quiet.

Review 43:Beautiful location, the beach was steps from the property. The restaurant had great food and we didn't have to leave to find a restaurant at meal times. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The room was nice, very clean, great view. A nice get away for a long weekend.

Review 44:A/C was a bit loud for my wife and kept her up at night. OK for me, however. Food at bar was OK, not great. About 2.5 - 3 on scale of 1-5. Bed was too stiff for me, but my wife like it just fine.

Review 45:Location is great. Nice renovation. Very friendly staff.

Review 46:Only complaint was that the mattress was very hard for my chronic back pain. But the staff provided a topper which helped soften it up!

Review 47:Hearing the waves hitting the shore!

Review 48:The rooms are so clean and have amazing views of the gulf. It is only a few steps and you are on the beach for shelling, swimming, and relaxing. Pool area is clean and neat. Just a wonderful place.

Review 49:Overpriced, old outdated property. They do not provide beach chairs umbrellas--they charge $20 a day to rent until 5 pm and then they are removed. Room was small and very non-descript as far as decor. Would not return. Would find a resort that provides more amenities.

Review 50:Location was good.

Review 51:The room was very nice and roomy, the screened porch was a bonus, The service at the bar was great and the food was excellent. Everything was conveniently located and the short distance to the beach was awesome.

Review 52:The beach was beautiful and very natural with lots of shells. It's really relaxing to sit down and watch the wildlife (birds, turtles and dolphins). The Hotel was good and clean and had all the ameneties you need.

Review 53:Having to leave!!

Review 54:Excellent stay at the West Wind Inn. Staff and facilities amazing as usual, the location, right on the beach, is one of the best in the world.

Review 55:Mouldy smell in the dark room; carpet that has never been properly cleaned since probably the opening of this hotel in de 1960's; very noisy AC; sand fleas;

Review 56:At least the pool area was somehow o.k.

Review 57:The air conditioner fan ran all the time and blew across the bed and gave me a sore throat. Also, the light outside the room came in the window in the door and made it hard to sleep.

Review 58:The little screen porch was a nice touch.

Review 59:Left two pillows. Was told housekeeping would call with results of missing pillows. Pillows found and are on the way. Thanks to the front desk personnel.

Review 60:Beach was close and the pool amenities were outstanding.

Review 61:Had gulf view room, however mostly blocked by large sea grape bush. I suspect they can't trim it Due to environmental regulations regarding it's closeness to the beach.

Review 62:Nice size room, modern kitchenette, very clean, helpful, friendly staff. I plan on returning.

Review 63:Although we only stayed for 1 night, we thought the beach front location was beautiful. The Friday night Happy Hour with discounted drinks and appetizers was an added plus. We will definitely return to the West Wind!

Review 64:Noseeums and Mosquitos at night. 3 days later and I'm still itching. Don't forget your OFF!

Review 65:Wonderful location. Beautiful property. Nice staff.

Review 66:The location of the hotel is fantastic! Right near the Wildlife Refuge right on the beach...no need to cross a busy street! Coffee in lobby every morning, pool right there, the beautiful beach! Amazing sunsets! We can't wait to go back!!!

Review 67:AC in our room had a musty/mildew smell. I'm sure it is do to the room being closed up in the off season.

Review 68:Hospitality was great, helpful staff, wonderful facilities.

Review 69:Room had dust around bed, carpet appeared dirty and mattress had bed mites. When we went to sleep the following day we woke up with what appeared to be mosquito bites.

Review 70:Place was quite

Review 71:Too far to walk to shops restaurants but good restaurant on site.

Review 72:Staff could not have been more helpful. Location straight onto a beautiful beach, amazing sunset!

Review 73:Just a couple of things that were strange- you must pay $20 a day to rent 2 chairs and a beach umbrella, should be free for what you pay... also, the bartender needs help with mixed drinks! My Mojito tasted like gasoline, don't use the cheap bottled mixes.

Review 74:We like the easy access to the beach and the pool was nice and clean...

Review 75:Although everything was nice, it was like every where else, and the food was terrible for the money.

Review 76:The staff were very friendly, the place was clean, and comfortable.

Review 77:No problems, we enjoyed our stay.

Review 78:This is a very nice hotel in a great location. It's an older hotel but well kept and very clean. We've stayed there before and will stay again.

Review 79:The age of the establishment, no elevator, room was 90 + degrees when we got there.I thought it was expensive for what you got.

Review 80:Location right on the beach. The pictures made it look better than it was.

Review 81:We called ahead to find out if they take pets and they charged us a cancellation fee. We never cancelled our booking. We found other accommodations for our dog, but a cancellation fee appeared on our final bill when we checked out.

Review 82:Great Oceanview's and just steps from the beach !

Review 83:The location was great and we like to have a kitchen and fridge for ease of healthier eating. The hotel is a bit dated but that doesn't bother us; we like the change and the character.

Review 84:The bathroom in our room was way to small. Only one person could fit in the bathroom and we have a 2 year old so it was a tight squeeze.

Review 85:We liked the pool and outside bar area

Review 86:At check-in they could not find my reservation, so it's a good thing I brought a printout with me. The bed was a bit firm for my wife and I agree it could have been more on the plush side. The restaurant, although nice looking, was terrible! My wife's dish was missing tseveral ingredients described on the menu, and my Mahi-Mahi was way over spiced with some sort of chili powder and I could not eat it, although I tried. I was so bad I would not ever return!

Review 87:The grounds were kept nice, and it was a short stroll to the beach. We could see the beach and the Gulf from our screened porch. The pool and deck area were very nice and even had a small kiddy pool for families with little ones, along with a nice pool bar.

Review 88:The location is excellent and a great value. The happy hour on Friday at 5:30 is nice and cheery. The grounds are very nice. The service and amenities are good. Love the fresh towels at the pool and option to rent an umbrella and chair or bike. Room decor is hip and clean. Kitchenette is great for keeping cool drinks and AM coffee and bagels. The beach is very pristine and there is all kinds of nature. Seemed family friendly and guests were all respectful of each other. Very nice.

Review 89:Facilities are a little older in age - yet have been renovated (mostly). There were some parts of the older hotel still there like the cabinets for storage near the closet in the room.

Review 90:Great location on the gulf.

Review 91:No bad experience, but the woman tending the pool bar was the only unpleasant staff member that we encountered. Fortunately, we laughed it off and wondered how she could be so disinterested in such a happy setting

Review 92:The Inn is very nice all around. My adult daughter and I are looking forward to our next visit. This was my second stay at the West Wind and both stays were well worth the trip..

Review 93:I thought the housekeeping was not great. They kept coming into the room early in the morning. Manager was great and sorted the problem.

Review 94:We loved the location with the beach and pool, and the island itself is beautiful, very much worth a visit.

Review 95:We felt the cost of the bar drinks at poolside were a little expensive and the amount of the gratituties added on to your bill (19%, if you charged it to your room) were rather high, but this is expected when you are away!

Review 96:The location of the hotel was ideal. We enjoyed the easy access to the beach, the convenience and size of the pool area with plenty of lounge chairs and tables available for use. The grounds were kept immaculate! Nice view of the gulf and pool area from our second level room.

Review 97:We arrived about 9 am knowing we probably couldn't check in until 3, but inquired if it would be alright to park and go to the beach while we waited until 3. She checked and had a room cleaned and available and said we were welcomed to stay. That was excellent customer service. Awesome stay

Review 98:The food in the restaurant was a bit high priced...

Review 99:We had a wonderful king room overlooking the pool. Everything was very clean and homey - wine glasses provided and complimentary microwave popcorn. Nice soaps, shampoos provided. All employees were very nice!

Review 100:I didn't like that beach accessories had to be rented to guests of the hotel. Wished they had, at least, complimentary beach chairs.

Review 101:The staff was very friendly and the room was comfortable for our family of four.

Review 102:The kitchen did it not have enough cooking utensils. Hot on the patio!!!

Review 103:Loved the location, the cleaning staff were very accomadating. Pool was clean & grounds were beautiful. Nice place we will come back!!!

Review 104:The entire staff was very professional and courteous. The resort is very well maintained. There is free wifi and parking. The view to the gulf is amazing, and you are only steps away.

Review 105:Employees at the restaurant was very rude I was not happy with my food and they had a very bad attitude

Review 106:The people at the hotel were very pleasant very time

Review 107:We didn't like how small the bathroom was… Literally the door hit your knees if somebody tried to open it and you were using the restroom

Review 108:The hotel was older but we remodeled nicely… Reminded us of a hotel from when we were kids. The staff was awesome and friendly! The only thing we didn't like was that the bathroom even though it was remodeled, was very very small. But we would definitely stay there again !!

Review 109:i don't like the fact that if I want to join back this spring the room will cost me 4 times what I just paid for it, I would really like to go back this spring 2016 but the rate is to high

Review 110:The price for what we got. Great location and very clean.

Review 111:We don't have any complaints, except the beach behind the hotel has a lot of seaweed, it doesn't look clean compared to Bowman Beach.

Review 112:We like the location the most, it has a private beach with a walking distance from our room. The view was magnificent. The hotel is clean and neat.

Review 113:Not being able to smoke on own balcony. Felt that since we booked ourstay at booking.com we weren't issued the room we requested.Although we got a gulf view, you couldn't view gulf from room, ourstraight view was a cement wall...

Review 114:Friendly personal, relaxing atmosphere Great location..clean rooms. Bothbartenders, Mary And Linda were wonderful...Linda was so busy Saturdayafternoon from food sales she unfortunately had to leave bar numeroustimes to pick up food. Have to give he credit she smiles through it all.She was extremely pleasant and professional .. Personally feel that witha full house that weekend she definitely should have had a runner...

Review 115:The front desk staff was incredibly helpful and provided excellent information about all the amenities available; they even called shortly after check-in to see if we needed anything!

Review 116:A woman at the front desk was NOT friendly at all. Seems like we were an inconvenience to her. Maybe we were and that was why our room was almost the farthest from the beach.

Review 117:The beach!

Review 118:Perfect setting with pool, beach and shells galore at our doorsteps. We were also privileged to see loggerhead turtles lay eggs on the beach during our stay.

Review 119:the description of property was misleading. The rooms were clean on the surface, but dirty and old in corners and baseboards, tubs, etc. The walkways to the pool from the rooms was on grass which made it very hard for handicapped walker

Review 120:the pool was nice, location to ocean nice

Review 121:We didn't like that we had to pay $20 a day to use the beach chairs/umbrella on the beach. Also, we occasionally had a strong musty smell coming from our bathroom when re-entering our room.

Review 122:We rented a studio and our room was very nice. We liked that it was an easy walk to the beach and pool. The staff was helpful and very friendly.

Review 123:Very small bathroom and tub/shower. The kitchnette was nice but the table and four chairs were old and badly beaten up.

Review 124:We loved the pool and pool bar with the live music. The poolside grill was a nice touch also.

Review 125:The on-site restaurant. Wouldn't honor the "early-bird" special--because it was a holiday. Then heard a different server offering it to next customer. Food was mediocre and over-priced.

Review 126:Beach was wonderful, room clean, and staff couldn't be nicer! Everything on property so there was no need to leave during the two days we were guests there.

Review 127:The no seums were tough at sun down but not the hotels fault take bug spray because the hotel charges 15 bucks a can

Review 128:Clean, curtious and layed back it was just what we needed. I had no issues from day one I would return tomorrow

Review 129:The staff could be a little more friendly. Especially at the restaurant. They probably do not work directly for the hotel.

Review 130:We liked the hotel of it's convenience to everything.

Review 131:I think the customer should be told in advance that you credit card will be charged a 22% holding charge.

Review 132:My sister and I enjoyed everything at the Inn it was a very nice relaxing stay.

Review 133:The rules/policies this hotel has adopted I believe are too far on the conservative side. For the prices they offer, they should be more willing to accept the clients that will be reserving vacations with them. While I understand Sanibel Island tends to not stay up late, the pool bar closed at 8pm.... REALLY?! Their restaurant had wonderful food but they did not offer room service. Finally, with an enclosed (screened in) patio to keep the bugs away from you if you wanted to enjoy the outdoor air, this is the first hotel I've ever been to that would not let you smoke on your own balcony... ?!?! As a military member, I have traveled a lot. The balcony is space I'm paying for, and I should be threatened with being forced to leave for smoking on my own balcony. Oh and by the way, there are no signs anywhere that say that! The few staff I interacted with during the day seemed to take offense that I (a successful younger client on my honeymoon) expected them to meet some basic hospitality industry standards. Also, they did have free wi-fi but it was not secured (not password-protected) so I felt I could never use it.

Review 134:The pool was amazing and the food from the restaurant was wonderful. Of all the staff, the night front desk gentleman was the only one who put effort into caring about our stay.
