Review 1：On a negative note the rooms are a bit worn-out and you can hear you neighbour snoring. We were also promised a room very close to the beach but when we arrived they were not able to live up to their promise.
Review 2：This was the second time we stayed at Shalimar. First of all Sanibel is a fantastic island with beautiful nature. Shalimar has a perfect location right at the beachfront and you have stunning views of the sunset from the beach and from your balcony. The rooms at the motel building are spacious and clean. Shalimar has made it so easy for the traveller with self-service linen and towel exchange, beach chairs and so on.
Review 3：The location of this motel couldn't be any better. It is right on the Gulf and only steps to the beach. Large screened balconies or porches with amazing views of the beach and sunsets. The kitchen area is totally equipped with absolutely everything, from pots and pans to wine glasses down to the smallest utensil.
Review 4：We stayed in motel room #3. The noise that was made by normal movement of the vacationers above was very annoying and kept us awake.

Review 6：Bike rentals. Seriously? Take a deposit but don't charge for the bikes. Neither ones we rented for $36 for the DAY! (you could buy these bikes for $36) had working bells or have seen any oil on the chain since the turn of the century. Tires in bad shape too.
Review 7：We got a very good offer due to spontaneous booking. But nevertheless the price was not in our budget. And the ocean view was not really a ocean view (or better: we expected something else). Last but not least the building looked a bit old fashioned. As you can see, we don't have real arguments against it :)

Review 10：It met all our expectations plus! We stayed in room 13 in the motel so that we could see the gulf. We had a wonderful panoramic view of the gulf from our screened in porch. Lots of friendly people. Well maintained grassy areas. Did not mind not having maid service. It was so easy to exchange towels and get any replacement supplies. There were games, books and puzzles to borrow.
Review 11：Proximity to beach and available beach chairs. With kitchenette was able to fix and eat breakfast and lunch in the motel. The facilities were well maintained.
Review 12：Perfect vacation in every way. Location is great. Being able to park right by your door and unload your stuff and not have to carry up stairs or elevators is the best! Super clean cottage and many amenities there that I don't recall being advertised. Free DVD, books, beach chairs, gas grills, etc. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends!

Being there you feel like you are on a private beach. We have been to the island so many times and after we found Shalimar couple years ago we won't go anywhere else.

Review 25：Noisy neighbor. He was on his cell phone for very long periods and we could hear his conversation. Thin walls? Bathroom was a little small. Had a severe fly problem. Don't know where they came from. Killed many flies the 3 days we were there.

Review 35：Our room had a sliding door to a screened porch overlooking the ocean. We opened the slider the day we arrived and closed it when we left. Wonderful sleeping to the sound of the waves on the beach.

We didn't know how we would like not having our efficiency cleaned daily but it worked out very well and gave us more privacy. They have a very good system for trading in towels and supplies for fresh ones. The location could not be better. The gulf is steps from our room. The rooms and kitchens are very well appointed with everything needed. I would highly recommend Shalimar to both couples and families.
Review 44：Matress was a bit old on one off the beds, and since they have wooden floors on second floor, the noise is a bit hard if your neighbors walk around during the night.

Review 99：I did not like the fact that there was not daily maid service. Everywhere I have previously stayed had that. I did not like the beach chairs, they were terribly uncomfortable. I also will never stay on the first floor of the motel again. The noise from people walking above was loud.

This year (Sept 2013) the water was not as clear as years past. I heard this was due to the release of fresh water into the gulf. What a sin!!!

The Shalimar staff are friendly and welcoming and the grounds and facilities are perfectly maintained. I can count on a quiet and relaxed vacation when I stay at the Shalimar.
